foreign coin collection tour!

@baguette975 asked me to talk about my coins and i could never say no to talking abt my coins

before i begin i want to say that basically all of these coins have been given to me over the years, so i have not been to most of these places 👍 (i don’t love to travel over seas and maybe i don’t appreciate it as much as i should for having this collection but wtv)

starting off strong with my UK coins! in this picture there are 1 pound, 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p, 1 penny, and a 1/2 penny coins. i have a lot of these coins bc the thing that started this collection was a magnet game with UK coins that my parents bought me a long time ago lol

i also have shillings, along with irish pence and shillings and one east african shilling

next are my dutch coins! in this picture are 5 gulden, 2 1/2 gulden, 1 gulden, 25 cent, 10 cent, 5 cent, and 1 cent coins. the 10 cent coins are the smallest coins i have, they are a bit bigger than my thumbnail

these are my french coins. i have 20 francs, 10 francs, 5 francs, 2 francs, 1 franc, and 1/2 franc coins

austria! i have 1 shilling, 50 groschen, 10 groschen, 5 groschen, and 2 groschen coins

i have USSR coins! i have one 5 rubles and three 1 ruble coins. the 5 rubles coin is the biggest in my collection

i also have just regular euros. i have 2 euro, 1 euro, 50 cent, 20 cent, 5 cent, and 1 cent coins

canada! i have 25 cent, 10 cent, 5 cent, and 1 cent coins

and now. my special guys. on the left is a hungarian revolutionary period coin from 1848. on the right is what i believe to be a chinese kiang-soo province 10 cash coin, or at least that’s what i can gather from it. it’s a very well worn coin so it’s hard to see the design on the other side or read the few words in english on that side, but google image search helped a lot if that’s to be trusted. these two coins are my favorite :)

these last ones are coins but just tokens and stuff like that. top left is copenhagen tram tokens, top right is ferry tokens for cities not to be named for my privacy, bottom left is a collectible coin (i think that’s the purpose?) from the ben franklin science institute, bottom center is an old nyc transit token, and bottom right is some sort of game token

Another Gamblefest ends in double disappointment.

England never quite got going and neither did our bets.

Neil and Tom were both missing on Declan Rice, Harry Kane and Phil Foden’s contributions while Alex’s bet didn’t quite come close - as one might expect from a 200/1 shot.

So the long and the short of it, is that all three of us lost again.

Final scores are:

Alex: £24.61 DOWN

Neil: £3.74 DOWN

Tom: £4.11 DOWN

So, what does it all mean?

Neil performed the best overall (although to be clear, if you don’t get a profit, you don’t win) with the second best final result of all time, behind his 2018 profit of 63p. It’s a £3.21 improvement on his previous second best total, set at the 2022 World Cup.

Tom is also on an upwards curve, breaking his record from 2022 with a new personal best, or least worst. His 2022 effort was £6.25 down, so it’s £2.14 better off.

For Alex, it’s been a tough tournament but not his worst overall. Of his five tournaments, this year sees his third best (and worst) finish - £1.61 better than his worst Euros effort in 2016 and £2.33 better than his worst overall at the 2018 World Cup.

To the overall loss performance. For the record, Alex has done three Euros and two world cups - Tom and Neil have an extra World Cup each. That means Tom and Neil have bet on 345 matches each while Alex is on 281.

Alex has crashed through a landmark barrier. He is now £101.32 down over his 281 matches at five tournaments - an average loss of 36p per game.

Neil is £65.71 down over 345 matches at six tournaments - an average loss of 19p per game.

Tom is £54.47 down over 345 matches at six tournaments - an average loss of 15.7p per game.

Tom and Neil have both improved on their overall average losses - Neil by 2p a game and Tom by 1.3p a game. Alex has dropped by 3p a game.

But still, there has still been just that solitary Neil win in 2018, to a further 16 failed attempts.

While it’s been decent fare for Tom and Neil (and thanks to free bets which he used on Copa America, an overall profit for Tom from the last month), Alex hasn’t really enjoyed it and it has felt like a slog.

That will be nothing compared to the 2026 tournament. The expanded World Cup will now feature 104 matches - an increase of 40 compared to previous world cups - and that increased spend reduces our interest in things.

We’ve discussed reducing the bets to 50p a match - although this takes cash outs out of the game effectively as the stake/odds are too low. The idea of spending £1 a match or only picking select fixtures doesn’t appeal either - and the timings of the tournament held in the USA, Canada and Mexico mean several matches may even be overnight.

So… this could be farewell to the Gamblefest. But then, we have said that before. Who knows?

PREPARE FOR LONG MESSAGE…… i’ve loved hetalia for a long, hellish 10 years. and ive been on such a strong kick for like 2 weeks, probably cuz i’m finally going to college and the 12 year old running my brain wants me to not do that. this all started when i remembered my first OC and thought “i’m getting a degree in creative writing, i could do so much better now”… that was a mistake :)

when nations are discovered, the personification do so whenever (thanks Iceland). so a long while ago, there was the first personification of the Americas (dubbed Mom). but when the white men came, slaughtered, and conquered, Mom was sick and started to disappear. it was expected that a personification would come in her place; instead, she left behind several children make up America. the AU is that everyone thinks it’s just Alfred, but there are 2 more that totally shit talk the other nations in his ear.

first child: made up of the original colonies and Florida, it’s everyone’s favorite- Alfred! he had to stay regardless of how i tried to get rid of him! he’s probably mostly the same, he’s already perfect.

second child: made up from the land of “the louisiana purchase”, and later Texas, she’s Louise-Ann, aka the original OC (totally not just a better version of me). she’s probably the brain of the group, but hates Europe just enough to never want to go to the meetings.

third child: made up from the “Oregon Country” and land from Mexico (aka from Washington to California to Texas), it’s Allan!! 2p Alfred has to stay, i had to use him cuz i wanted a die hard vegan from California in here somewhere. it’s so funny that everyone thinks Alfred and Allen are the twins when they aren’t.

children 4, 5 and 6 are actually adopted, but my babies; its Alaska and Hawai’i! because everyone needs a Russian and beloved baby sister in their life <3 and then the group forcibly adopts Molossia, i just love him so much, i want to baby him and garden with him.

the AU would consist of “the wacky adventure of the Jones siblings and European government” :)

Omg okay, the west coast kid being Allen is great lmao I think that'd be funny esp to see the dynamic between all of them.

Like they have their own meetings trying to figure out the clusterfuck that is America and it's pretty much the same as the world meetings where they get nothing done cuz all they do is argue with each other.

I've always felt, personally, that it would make more sense for Native America to be made up of a group of people. Since there were so many different tribes with different cultures the First Nations would literally be several different personifications of each nation. Kind of like the German states before they made Germany (I'm talking specifically abt the Hetalia canon, not real history. Cuz obviously America was formed in a much more violent way and I don't think the First Nations willingly formed together to create Alfred but more so had a similar structure of several states/nations combining and becoming something else) or perhaps they began to disappear as they got sick and that's when Alfred and Co. started to pop up.

But yeah America is such a huge country I feel like it does make more sense to have several different personifications for different regions. Going from one end of the country to another can still give people culture shock because it's just so different.

what do you think of 2ps?

I don't really think of them at all if I'm honest! Nor do I have much to say of them concretely unfortunately. I guess I did like them a little here and there when I was in highschool? 😅 However, I think that could just be because I haven't had an AU yet where that would be particularly useful to me, maybe one day that would come up - similarly to how I didn't have any OCs and I said I wouldn't know how to create one but now I have a couple AUs where a Mexico OC would be useful so I'm making one! So who knows, if I'm out here making OCs maybe I'll be out here using 2Ps in an AU. Although if I was to speculate it would probably be for something supernatural which I don't really do much, or it would be in the form of redesigns I could use for extended family of sorts. I can say that I don't really like viewing 2Ps as edgier versions of 1Ps, more so just their own thing based on the same nationality I suppose so I'd probably use them that way if I did.
