I just want to say that Jake DeBrusk has scored his first goal of the season on November 2nd for three years in a row. November 2nd is Filip Hronek’s birthday. coincidence? you decide.
Canucks thoughts 11/02/2024:
Quick reminder that Kevin Lankinen makes less money than 22 other goaltenders in the NHL. He signed with the Canucks because he saw the biggest opportunity to prove that he is a starter-calibre goalie with this team, and dear lord was he right. I should not have been afraid of the Canucks losing to the San Jose Sharks in the year of our lord 2024, but thank you Kevin for assuaging my worries. And Pius Suter.
I couldn’t watch most of this game live, which was perhaps for the better, since for a terrible period in time the Canucks were trailing the 2024-2025 Sharks. The fact that the Sharks were even able to tie the game after the Canucks took a lead in the third period is… yikes. It still feels like the team hasn’t found their A-game yet, but the flashes of dominance they’ve shown are very promising! Hopefully the team-wide hesitancy tied to a new system dissipates in time as they settle in and find a better balance between generating offence and giving up way too many odd-man rushes against.
Every game, Quinn Hughes does something that’s just astounding (he should be a Norris contender this year, and in consideration for the Hart and Ted Lindsay, but I digress). That’s something Elias Pettersson used to do too. I have faith he’ll get back to astonishing us every night, and it feels like he’s working his way back, but I still had a lot of Emotions when they showed him talking to Danny and focused in on him before the faceoff. Nobody puts more expectations on him than himself. He dipped below career PPG today for the first time in a long while - I wonder if he’s paying attention to that. It wouldn’t surprise me.
Great to see DeBrusk get his first of the season! That feels like it’ll open the floodgates a bit and he’ll really pop off. I’m already very endeared to him, and I hope the fact that he has a level of long-term security in Vancouver that he never really had in Boston helps him shake off some of his streakiness.
Somehow Pius Suter is one of the most clutch forwards on this team. He always finds the soft areas of the ice to get open, and even if he lacks finish sometimes, his persistence is rewarded with games like we saw tonight. He’s a UFA after this season, and I’m guessing the organization would only be interested in retaining him if he takes a discount like Blueger did, but great stuff from the guy who feels like he has San Jose’s number (according to DeBrusk).
Thank god the Canucks prevented the Sharks from getting their first four-game win streak since 2021-2022. Nothing against the Sharks, I just really did not want to hear all the media noise that would have caused in this market. Hoping the Canucks get 6/6 points on this road trip!

Do you think Nolan Patrick will ever come back to the nhl? Or any other professional hockey league
As much as it pains me to say it, I don't think Nolan will come back to the NHL - teams (justifiably) don't want to be paying for a player, who is as injury and illness-prone as he is and who barely jumps into games, let alone performs in them.
His story is truly one of the most saddening ones because he is still only twenty-five and called a bust by basically everyone because of something he has no control over whatsoever. Imagine how frustrating it has to be for someone to be unable to do something they love and something they have dedicated their entire life to because they jump from one untreatable injury to another. Six years back he was this promising-looking guy who got drafted 2nd overall and look at where he is now and where the other guys from 2017's draft are now - Nico Hischier, Cale Makar, Miro Heiskanen, Elias Pettersson, Martin Necas...
I don't even think he will join other professional leagues. I wouldn't blame him if he did so because of the love he has for the sport and from pure nostalgia, but if he is reasonable, he won't want to push his body any further past the safe lines, which have already been long crossed in his case.
Genuinely wishing him nothing but the best.

Let's do the math on an Elias Pettersson offer sheet.
As of today, July 22, 2021, the Vancouver Canucks have $15,174,131 in cap space, according to CapFriendly. Their estimated cap hit includes all of their currently signed players, Micheal Ferland and Jay Beagle (currently listed as on LTIR), Loui Eriksson's remaining cap hit after being buried in the minors, Roberto Luongo's cap recapture penalty, and the $648,780 in bonus overage penalties they incurred this past season. (Boy, that's a lotta extra cap hits for a team that finished at the bottom of the North Division.)
Let's say... the Seattle Kraken put in an offer sheet for Elias Pettersson of 5 years at $8,221,463 (the maximum they can offer sheet for and only have to pony up a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd, before it becomes 2 1sts, instead). This contract, incidentally, would probably bring Pettersson right up to UFA status. If the Canucks match it, that leaves them with $6,952,668 in cap space.
But! The Canucks have 17 roster players signed. If they get Pettersson and Quinn Hughes signed, that only puts them at 19, and they would ideally like to be able to have 23 players on their roster. If they have to scrape the bottom of the barrel, they could sign 4 players at league-minimum salary, $750,000. But that's now an extra $3,000,000 that gets subtracted away from your remaining cap space. Meaning! That, if the Canucks matched this hypothetical offer sheet, that would realistically leave them with $3,952,668 to hand over to Hughes (who is, realistically, worth more than $3,952,668/year).
In sum: any NHL GM (including, say, Ron Francis) who isn't a coward and afraid of hurting his friend's feelings should offer-sheet Elias Pettersson in order to fuck over the Vancouver Canucks. (Also, I would gladly give up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Elias Pettersson, even if the 1st is the 2nd-overall pick at this year's draft. Elias Pettersson is going to make more of an impact this year on your shiny new expansion team than, I dunno, Matthew Beniers or whoever.)

hockey astrology (sun) signs I didn’t know that either absolutely shocked me or make absolute sense:
this post has taken me FOREVER to finally get up but it was so fun to research about considering these are 2 subjects i enjoy a lot! more than half of it is definitely just me geeking over the complexities of astrology even when all I knew were the sun sign parings and the post is slightly long but it’s all pretty interesting info so here it is!
things that just make sense:
kevin hayes is a taurus
honestly describes his whole energy and I’m not surprised whatsoever
mikko rantanen is an october scorpio vs petey being a november scorpio
october scorpios often are a mix of passion & compassion
think complexly but are utterly genuine and physical
are persistent
charming & intriguing in the eyes of others
vs the early November deacon aka the PISCES DECANTE
like super shy and reserved and attentive and mysterious yet intriguing and if that DOESN’t describe Elias Pettersson then idk what does
2nd decan has the same ruling planets as pisces
causes scorpio & pisces have a lot of common traits or get along well (cough cough Brock Boeser)
are careful in picking friends & companions, empathetic
PLD IS A FUCKING CANCER !!
this literally just makes so??? Much???? Sense??? To me. Like all the generic/common traits of cancers are things that I’d totally see in him
cancers are commonly loyal, dependable (often are the secret keepers), enigmatic, charming, and intuitive
often are more into maintaining friendships (maybe through knowing and keeping their friends secrets), and being more lowkey
vindictive
landy is a sagittarius & ej is an aries
an elite friendship and their zodiac pairing really shows it
often both signs are super good at understanding each other, have common traits (spontaneity, activity, curiosity) and inclinations that make them get along easily!
someone online said that the signs “complete each other”, Aries admire honesty, friendliness & open-mindedness while sag adores Aries’ optimistic & bold traits
also both signs are relatively outdoorsy signs so its common they bond over sports/activity
where did you come from because i just cant make sense of this?:
uhhh tito’s a gemini?!?!?!??!?!
@royaltyofhockeylosers told me this and I’ve never met 2 gemini’s that get along so HOW are him and mat so attached
also it’s not just that they’re Geminis because the different deacons usually add difference (ok im getting too complicated ash shut up) but they’re like 3 days after each other meaning that they’re probably in the same deacon
jt compher is an Aries and josty is a pisces
now this might be me projecting but I’ve just never met an Aries and pisces who get along well
like fire sign vs water sign, often have completely opposing energies but honestly good for them
matthew tkachuk is a sagitarrius
he just doesn’t really radiate sag energy to me? no i cannot explain
ok actually i did further search and i can see some of the traits
aka passionate, confident, enthusiastic and secure
i was honestly expecting him to be a leo though
leos are often charming, loyal, slightly narcissistic, natural leaders, and protective
i’m just very ????? i would like to see the rest of his chart bc his sag energy is so unlike landeskog’s
except i did find an online chart and it said landy had a scorpio moon which could explain their different kinda vibes
other cool things/relations:
jamie the cancer & seggy the aquarius aka opposites attract in its finest
“Aquarius have a modern, flashy outlook of life while cancer are sensitive and emotional in nature. Aquarius are energetic and friendly (aka people people) while cancer tend to retire to themselves”
cancers are often traditional while Aquarius often rebel
aka a modern case of opposites attract
cancers often teach Aquarius hospitality while Aquarius teach them problem solving
Aquarius are defensive
cancers help break that wall while Aquarius helps to build it/be less self-conscious in cancers
aquarius often relaxed & unconventional
social and business savvy
brock Boeser is a 1st decan pisces
ruled by Neptune & characterized by romanticism, selflessness, & intuition
usually have a positive and optimistic towards life
other common traits:
dreamy romantic nature
pretty good and sensing others emotions and helping others’
deal with things in a calm/polite way
prefers to seek comfort
very selfless
seriously this was stressed like 20 times in the article i read
meanwhile Tyson Jost is a 3rd decan pisces
usually spiritual in nature (i totally added this bc I saw him listening to 187 htz the other day)
passionately loves the people around them, willing to devote themselves to things they found worthwhile
other common traits:
willing to try anything
easily adaptable
dreamer, ambitious, persevering
EXTREMELY compassionate & kind, find helping/supporting others a natural instinct
favor empathy, selfless & generous
honorable mention for things that make sense:
anton kudobin is also a taurus and im convinced that’s where the chaotic energy comes from…seriously something about Taureans is just chaotic yet comforting at the same time
#hehehe this took forever so idk how i feel#but it was really fun & interesting to learn abt#basically i would like to see some of their full charts tho#lets talk hockey astrology

i had a weird dream a few weeks ago where sleeping me apparently select a team for The Aesthetics, and she wants beard ! so it was holtby, burns, jordie benn, thornton giroux and voracek. Sooo 18 for the ask ?
... is your subconscious trying to tell you something?
18. create your dream team who’s on it? Hoo boy okay, here we go. *cracks knuckles* (Disclaimer: this is based solely on how much I love the players, NOT on their abilities to play well together, so don’t come at me. I also played fast and loose with whether they’re LW, RW, or C, they’ll just have to adjust.)
1st line: Travis Konecny, Sidney Crosby, Nolan Patrick (I CRAVE CHAOS)
2nd line: Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Nino Niederreiter
3rd line: Jason Robertson, Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser (sold as a pair, do not separate)
4th line: Ryan Lomberg, Chandler Stephenson, Kurtis Gabriel
D-men 1st pairing: Shea Theodore and Alec Martinez
2nd pairing: Jani Hakanpää and Quinn Hughes (tell me that wouldn’t be hilarious to see)
3rd pairing: Tyson Barrie and K’Andre Miller
Goalies: Marc Andre Fleury, with Elvis Merzlikins backing him up and Emil Larmi as their third
#god what I wouldn't give for this lineup#*kisses fingers*#hockey#picking the goalies was (obviously) the hardest part#hey nonny no

why is he retiring?
Unfortunately, he has always been extremely injury-prone and battling the same injuries over and over again ever since his junior career before he was even drafted.
A migraine disorder, a shoulder injury, a sports hernia, abdominal surgery ten days before being drafted... The list is extremely long and a lot of it is to this day unknown, though it has always been mainly head and upper-body stuff that is known to re-occur over and over again.
He played only 222 games in the NHL (25 out of that with Vegas, where he was traded in 2021). Compare that to Nico Hischier, who was drafted the same year as him - 1st while Nolan was 2nd overall - and has so far played 400 games. Or Elias Pettersson - 358 games.
That small comparison shows you just how much have the injuries affected Nolan.
It sucks, genuinely sucks, because Nolan undeniably has the talent in him and you can't help but wonder just how good he would be if injuries and health didn't bother him.

The Canucks choke again.
The Canucks vs Golden Knights series has been a fascinating one from a pure hockey point of view. It may not be as exciting if you are a Canucks fan, as the Nucks find themselves down 3-1 in their second-round matchup after last night's loss. The game began with scoring from Knights centre and former Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty. It was quickly answered by last year's Calder winner Elias Pettersson to make it 1-1. From there, both teams would trade punches back and forth. 2-1 Vegas with a strike from Stephenson, then 2-2 as captain Horvat comes through. A few minutes later, Toffoli rips one home. Now it's a 3-2 game Canucks. The lone Canadian team left in the 2020 playoffs would take that 3-2 lead into the 3rd period, just to have their hearts ripped out as the Knights would score 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd. With goals from Schmidt 3-3, Pacioretty 4-3 (2nd of the night,) and William Karlsson as the Knights closed out the game with a 5-3 Final. Being down 3-1 in a series is never ideal, and this Canucks team is young, but part of me still believes they have a chance in this series, not a good one, but a chance none the less. I am not saying I think they will win. I just think they have some fight left in them. We will wait and see. Game 5 is slated for 8:45PM (CT) on Tuesday.

If u can’t choose a teammate, which Swedish nhl player do u think is the nicest?
Nicklas backström was really struggling with finding a good answer. Struggling as in barely being able to talk in whole sentences.
Then we have Christian Djoos who adores his good friend Elias.
And a little bromance moment between Victor Hedman and Erik Karlsson when they choose each other.
The winner, with 4 votes, was Niklas Kronwall (Forsberg, Nyquist, Pettersson, Janmark)
And in 2nd place, with 3 votes, was Filip Forsberg (Klingberg, Burakovsky, Gustafsson)
