i know everyone anguishes over the fact that hyx will probably never see the light of day but the fact that it got filmed at all is a miracle in itself like how did the director read “student becomes a genocidal dictator and forces former teacher to become his sex slave” and go “yeah i can make that pass censorship”

⛥ 2HA ⛥ 01 ⛥ 38. THIS VENERABLE ONE TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA. ⛥
As he watched Chu Wanning's white robes disappear into the darkness of the tree's hollow, a thread of hesitation surfaced in his heart. Was this person really rushing to be in front because he was impatient and arrogant?

Still nowhere near finishing Yuwu but just some random thoughts - I said in a post a while ago that I find the dynamic between Yuwu's main couple (Mo Xi & Gu Mang) similar to Wangxian's, but more and more I'm thinking about them in relation to Hua Cheng & Xie Lian, and how their relationship appears flawed and marred compared to Hualian's highly idealized one.
Hua Cheng was there for Xie Lian every step of the way as far as he's able and was right beside Xie Lian during all his most harrowing moments; Mo Xi couldn't be there for Gu Mang at his lowest, didn't fully comprehend Gu Mang's suffering, and hoped Gu Mang would pull through on his own. Hua Cheng is completely non-judgemental towards Xie Lian's actions and their moral implications and accept whatever choices Xie Lian makes; Mo Xi judged Gu Mang bitterly for his supposed treason and saw it not only as a betrayal of their country, but as Gu Mang's self-betrayal. Hua Cheng's commitment to Xie Lian is unwavering since day one regardless of the outcome of such commitment or any personal price he has to pay; Gu Mang is afraid to commit and keeps pushing Mo Xi away because he sees no future in his relationship with Mo Xi due to the disparity in their social status, and is also afraid of the emotional devestation and loss he'd have to suffer should Mo Xi decide to move on from him and their romance come to nothing.
The list could probably go on and it sounds like I'm trying to put Mo Xi and Gu Mang in a negative light - but the point is, their love for each other isn't rendered lesser or shallower than Hualian's due to their failings, and their deep empathy and care for each other is just as poignantly moving despite their negligence and misgivings towards each other. Love could be profound and undying though the actions aren't perfect and the results wretched - Mo Xi and Gu Mang's relationship feels tragically realistic in this sense. Although I'm only half way through the novel, I find Yuwu's view on romance grimmer, more sober and more realistic even compared to Meatbun's previous novel 2ha.

Bro I think we'll be immortal by the time Immortality comes out 😭😭 Like I wasn't on tumblr then, but I remember being in school and following the updates on my local fb group, then... nothing. I was so hyped after watching The Untamed and then Word of Honour that made me seek out Donghua and the novels of mxtx and priest. Unfortunately, most of my local friends aren't fluent in English or Mandarin, so they miss out.
And OP, SVSSS season 2 of donghua is still not out if I'm not mistaken.. usually donghua are less censored so I'll be happy if the donghua is out before the live adaptation. Also, there's this (kinda crappy) live action called "Is Xianzun Whitewashed Today?" which had an alarmingly similar plot to the beginning of SVSSS. Imo if they tried to do a live adoption of SVSSS, with the current censorship laws in China, they'll probably f*ck up the plot and make it like IXWT. And I don't think my fragile heart would be able to take it.

I would just like to restate how important it is that a lot of the ROMANTIC aspect of hualian is being shown in the TGCF donghua. Very little and almost never are danmei adaptations, whether animated or live action, show the romantic aspect of the relationship because it’s one of those I know but I will not show things in China. So the fact that this isn’t being portrayed as just big bro little bro affection is so important because other companies who buy intellectual right will use this in good benefit for producing more spot on adaptations (IM LOOKING AT YOU IMMORTALITY 2HA ADAPTION).

Do you think Mo Ran is misogynistic to Song Qiutong? How do you feel about Rong Jiu and Song Qiutong writing in 2ha?
I'm assuming that this ask is from the same person who sent that other one I just answered.
No, I don't think that Mo Ran is misogynistic. In his right mind, he has been nothing but loving and respectful to all women he came across, with the exception of Song Qiutong whom he hated for the kind of person she was, not because she was a woman. In fact, his deep hatred of Song Qiutong is not even so much about hating her, but about hating what she enabled him to do. She encouraged the worst side of him, and even though she was the one who betrayed the Rufeng Sect, he was the one to raze it to the ground and kill Ye Wangxi. All the evil she caused as Empress (up to and including torturing Chu Wanning) was because he gave her leave to do so. She was the one who opened the doors to let Chu Wanning escape for that final 0.5 fight, but it was Mo Ran's actions that led Chu Wanning to such extremes in the first place. She disgusted him, but his hatred of her was magnified because she was so intimately tied to his own regrets and shame.
Honestly, I find Song Qiutong and Rong Jiu (and Shi Mei) fans who level these kinds of baseless accusations at Mo Ran to make their slimy faves look better completely exhausting. Yeah, Mo Ran hated Song Qiutong in a sea of other women whom he was very respectful of because she was a vile person who was intimately tied to his own evildoing. No, he was not misogynistic, he was just in a toxic marriage and hated this one woman in particular, not all women as a group. No, he is not a rapist for frequenting brothels and sleeping with Rong Jiu. Yes, Rong Jiu did actually scheme to murder Mo Ran in both timelines, it is not Mo Ran's "biased-ass POV" baselessly accusing him (an actual thing I've had a Rong Jiu stan tell me). Yes, both Rong Jiu and Song Qiutong were doing their best to survive, but just because they were born into horrible circumstances does not change the fact that they were also horrible people who never hesitated for a moment to throw others under the bus if it meant they would benefit from it, up to and including murder (or in Song Qiutong's case, the slaughter of entire cities).
Another thing that I find especially hilarious about these accusations against Mo Ran is that there is usually an overlap between Rong Jiu and Song Qiutong fans and Shi Mei fans. It is so funny that they are so ready to hate on Mo Ran for what he did to Rong Jiu and Song Qiutong but conveniently forget that Shi Mei killed them both in a pretty brutal fashion in the second timeline just because it was useful to him. He did not even have a personal grudge the way Mo Ran did. Also, it is no coincidence that there are so many parallels between Rong Jiu, Song Qiutong and Shi Mei. The likeness between them is not just skin-deep. All three of them are cruel opportunists with no conscience to speak of and only their own self-interest in mind.
I feel that Meatbun wrote her novel as a detailed commentary on evil and human weakness and how people end up there, starting from mundane, petty, self-serving evil that is on display in a multitude of scenes in the book among ordinary, common people, to the absolutely unhinged extremism that we saw in Shi Mei. Song Qiutong and Rong Jiu are somewhere in the middle of the scale.

This is also the reveal of why Taxian-jun decided to kill Song Qiutong, if I’m remembering correctly
There's something I've read from erha which I DONT REMEMEBER IF ITS CANON OR FANON HAHAHAHAH. But the premise is that Chu Wanning waited outside a place (?) Just to see Taxian-Jun, but he wasn't permitted to coz like Mo ran is in a conference or something, but then Chu Wanning caught a cold and became sick because he waited kneeling, while it was freezing outside and I think was also snowing? AND THEN MO RAN GOT MAD THAT NO ONE STOPPED HIM FROM DOING SO, AND THEN NURSED HIM I—
This thing lives on my head rent-free.
Hi anon!! I believe I know what you’re talking about, though my memories about this will not be as perfect as MDZS cause I’ve only read Erha once so far. (I’m waiting for my officially translated volume 2 before I start again)
I believe the scene is Taxian-jun and Mo Ran at different points ruminating on the same past event. Xue Meng is fighting against him and causing trouble and Chu Wanning goes to beg Taxian-jun not to kill him, kneeling outside in a courtyard to wait for him. Song Qiutian has the lamps extinguished so it’s very dark and cold, and forbids the maids from telling Taxian-jun that Chu Wanning is doing this out of bitterness. Taxian-jun discovers this much later when he finds Chu Wanning still kneeling despite being sick with cold already and flips out about it and just somehow coincidentally never gets around to killing Xue Meng anyway cause his Chu-fei was close to dying of illness and he did not like that because the only person allowed to kill his Chu-fei was him and so he had to prevent Chu Wanning from actually dying here.
I believe the full extent of the scene is covered in like four different flashbacks from different perspectives, and never all at once, so it’s easy to not be certain on what you’ve seen because Erha is dense and some scenes are revisited in new lights once you know the stuff the characters aren’t telling you.
Thanks for the ask!

Hello, new danmei fan here. I'm really late into danmei, just started last year (so I missed the hype). Just when I confused which blog to follow, I found your blog. Thanks so much for this blog of yours, it really helped me to understand more of the stories. I just finished MDZS, TGCG, SVSSS and now I'm reading 2Ha.
For this ask game, can I ask MDZS or SVSSS?
Before I start reading, many people said that SVSSS is inferior to other MXTX works, after finishing the books, I disagree, because I enjoy them all the same....
I mean, if starting last year is considered "late," then I'm also behind, because I only started reading things a few years ago lmao! But it's never too late when fandoms are still booming (for better or worse). So I see we're finishing out the mxtx novels.
MDZS
Favorite Character: Wei Wuxian
Favorite Arc: all Drunk Lan Wangji encounters!
Character I Think is Underrated: Lan Wangji, if i have to hear “he’s boring” from people who can’t read one more time…
Character I Think is Overrated: all of the antagonists and villains. Jiang Cheng is not "single mother!jiujiu," he is just a bitchless Wen Chao. Jin Guangyao is not "poor little Meng Yao forced to do things against his will," he is a a calculating murderer who will scheme against, betray, and kill anyone who stands between him and ultimate power. Madam Yu is not a "girlboss" (unless we accept the real meaning of that word, which is a woman who gains power by ingratiating herself into oppressive systems as the female alternative to corrupt male leaders), she is a domestic abuser who made every single person in her family and husband's clan miserable.
Favorite Ship/Pairing: Wangxian
Something I Love About the Book: I love the way this book is adamant about good always eventually being rewarded. That even if the outcome of doing good was terrible, that does not make the effort wasted or useless. Lan Wangji protecting Wei Wuxian at Nightless City was worth it even if he was almost killed for it, because it made sure that the yin tiger tally did not end up in the Jin Clan's hands as a completed weapon. Wei Wuxian saving the Wen was worth it even though he was killed for it, because A-Yuan got to live. Wen Qing and Wen Ning saving Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian was worth it even though Jiang Cheng betrayed them in the end, because their clan still got to live through its last descendant. None of their actions were met with immediate rewards, but the larger implications of them led to better outcomes than had they just kept to themselves and the status quo of corruption, as everyone else had.
SVSSS (my favorite of the three 🤗)
Favorite Character: Luo Binghe, hands down
Favorite Arc: Holy Mausoleum Arc, cause y'all (Shen Qingqiu 😒) gonna stop falsey accusing my baby, today!
Character I Think is Underrated: Bing-mei version of Luo Binghe, not because he's "unpopular," per se, but because mainstream fandom's perception of him seems to be that he is just Bing-ge who cries, and this is a complete mischaracterization of his character based on popular fanon. I see too much hate for him in this fandom because of it
Character I Think is Overrated: Shen Jiu. The man was a child abuser and died to one of his victims because he chose to be a child abuser. There is nothing tragic or unfair about that. Leave that man in the ether where he'll hopefully never have a chance to harm another person again.
Favorite Ship/Pairing: Bingqiu
Something I Love About the Book: Shen Qingqiu. The man is trying his damndest to do right in what he considers a doomed narrative, but the moment he realizes that his efforts have actually made things worse, he immediately pivots his actions. He never tries to justify himself, deflect from criticism, or misplace responsibility. He has one goal in mind, and that is to make as many people's lives as he possibly can better than what they originally ended up as.

2ha spoilers!!!
Shi Mei pretty much has a lot of the other three main characters’ worst traits and traumas (Xue Meng’s Son of an important political figure rich-boy narcissism, Mo Ran’s psychosexual issues and fucked up childhood (just so much in common with mo ran), Chu Wanning’s “My dad tried to kill me” based trust issues) but he’s so dedicated to his facade that I don’t think any of those three could ever see themselves in him. And that’s so interesting to think about. A version of him who could allow himself to be a real person around these people and form actual connections.
That’s probably why Hua Binan found it as easy as he did to do what he did. Because he couldn’t actually connect with anyone and he didn’t have anyone to see his own actions reflected in (unlike Shi Mei 2.0 with him) and he refused to see a reflection of himself in those three.
