I began writing this post before and lost my draft when I went to check how far along “Letters from Watson” is, so here it is without preamble. Lesson learned. 😆 (It appears to be up to The Hound of the Baskervilles at the time of this post.)
If you chose some combination of the short story collections and novels, I’d love to hear which ones in the comments and tags!
Please reblog for a larger sample size. :)

I think my blog might just be a list of weird shit from the original Sherlock Holmes books. Today, featuring:
- Sherlock doesn't keep the flat tidy, but he does shoot "VR" into the wall and throw a knife at the mantlepiece to hold his letters in place. Watson says that it doesn't really enhance the atmosphere and appearance of the place
- Given that Sherlock comments on Watson's stories, we know he reads them, so the whole thing might just be a really elaborate way of making Sherlock clean his shit up
- Watson thinks Sherlock is fairly healthy, aside from his excessive cocaine use
- A wealthy, stingy man with gout is described as having knuckles so chalky you could use them on a pool cue. I don't know if this has anything to do with the man's wealth, stingyness or gout
- A detective describes a case as "an absolute snorter"
- Sherlock decides to keep the identity of a murderer from the police. They hold a trial in Baker Street with Watson as the jury and Sherlock as the judge
- Sherlock makes his big brother give Watson a lift
- there's an interracial marriage between a white woman and a Black American man. Watson thinks he is quite handsome. The couple have a baby, the husband dies, and the wife makes the child wear white gloves and a white mask so nobody notices anything. It does not work.
- A woman discusses the importance of divorce. She is collaborating with the man who killed her husband
- Sherlock's friend's dad is blackmailed by a pirate

A baby is left at 221B Baker Street. When there’s a knock on the door Holmes speculates that it might be the baby’s mother but it is Inspector Lestrade.
Watson, snarkily: ”Not the mother”
In this adaptation I think that Watson is the more sarcastic one, whereas in the Arthur Conan Doyle books Holmes can be very sarcastic (mainly about the incompetence of the police), eg:
A Study in Scarlet: “There was a world of sarcasm in his voice as he spoke.”

Don’t be afraid to dream. Found this screenshot from June 6, 2014. All I wanted at the time was to visit London. I thought it would be SO COOL to see where they filmed Sherlock. I knew it was so unrealistic. My family barely leaves the state, let alone travels to other countries.
Fast forward to 5 years and 11 days later on June 15, 2019 when I took this picture in person while I was in London…

Watson’s Army Pension and Baker Street Rent
In A Study in Scarlet (Which I think is supposed to take place in 1881?), Watson’s Army pension is 11 shillings and 6 pence a day. 1 Shilling is 12 Pence, thus Watson’s daily pay is 11.5 shillings. 1 Pound is 20 Shillings. 11.5 x 30 days (Average days in a month) is 345 Shillings a month. Divided by 20 is 17.25 Pounds a month. Times that by 12 months means that Watson met Holmes, his annual salary was about 207 Pounds. In today’s money, that’d be about 32,202 Pounds a year, about 619 Pounds a week, or 2,683.5 Pounds a month. Or about $38,470 a year, about $740 a week, and about $3,206 a month. Bonus: Both Holmes and Watson were in their twenties when they met. Hell, Holmes was still taking college classes. According to Murray's Handbook to London As It is, 1879, "’Elegantly furnished rooms’ in [the] West End” (Which is where Baker Street was) were between 4 to 15 Guineas a week. 207 Pounds a year is a little over 4 Pounds a week. 1 Guinea is 1 Pound and 1 Shilling. 11.5 Shillings x 7 days is 80.5 Shillings a week (Or 4 Pounds and a Sixpence a week), which is 3 Guineas, 19 Shillings, and a Sixpence a week. At minimum, Watson would probably spend about 2 Guineas on rent a week (If we go with the modern 33% of pay on rent rule of thumb). Going halves with Holmes would bring them right at the low end of the average West End weekly rent. Other factors would include how much Watson was actually willing to pay for rent vs his weekly salary, his increase in salary with the books sales and medical consultations, and if he and Holmes shared the money they got for solving cases. (We haven’t gotten there yet, but if the Granada series is to be believed, at one point Holmes is paid the Victorian equivalent of a little over a million dollars before it got doubled to about 2.5 million.) In later books, it sort of seems like Holmes takes over paying the whole rent (he was able to live in Baker Street alone when Watson got married, Watson sold his medical practice when he moved back in and he never had one when he lived at Baker Street). *Shrugs* If you ever wanted to know how much Holmes and Watson payed for rent it’d be about 2 - 7.5 Guineas or 1.05 - 7.88 Pounds a week a piece, which would be 163.34 - 1,225.85 Pounds or $195.13 - $1,464.46 a week a piece today. Most likely, their rent would be closer to the lower range. So, at minimum in today’s money, 163.34 Pounds a piece ($195.13 a week, $845.56 a month, and $10,146.76 a year) and 326.68 Pounds together per week. ($390.27 a week, $1,691.17 a month, $20,294.04 a year) In other words, at the least, in total they pay more than I do. Historically, the West End is not cheap. Go, Mrs. Hudson.
EDIT: Upon rechecking my figures, I was off on Doctor Watson’s annual income by about 2-3 pounds. Doesn’t really change much though. Also, in today’s money, Watson was making a little over $106 daily. Or almost 88 Pounds.

I have so many Thoughts about S&co Sherlock Holmes, so have my headcanons:
- He was raised, at least partially, by his grandparents. Maybe by the french, maternal grandmother(NAVA). His oldtimey poshness is wonderful, but I can only explain it with some oldmoney, eccentric pensionist giving him a weirdly free, yet emotionally constipated upbringing.
- The houseplants of 221b and a are in pristine health because of him.
- He doesn't have any actual diagnoses. This is basically canon, but I'm putting it on here anyways. He doesn't, but Mycroft does. It's the classic instance of the more "severe case" or "more affected" sibling getting the help they need. And the symptoms of the other "less affected" sibling are overlooked. He also self medicates, which makes sense if he doesn't have access to prescription meds.
- He only wears clothes that fit. Oversized or skinny styles are the inventions of Satan himself. They're straight from sensory hell, and Sherlock agrees with me. He's very picky with fabrics too, preferring natural to synthetic. He detests wool against his skin though, so he wears tights, or long underwear beneath wool trousers in winter. He also gets a lot of clothes adjusted or made by a tailor(Who also did his grandparent's tailoring).
- He shaves his legs and armpits aswell as his face every day.
- If you ask him about his sexuality/gender identity you'll get a "that's none of your business". If John asked him, he'd get a "labels limit the vast expanse of the human experience". In truth he doesn't fucking know, it's weird and muddy, like the rest of his identity. He's read every book on the subject, watched so much porn, had a lot of one night stands, but ultimately comes up with: sex and relationships get in the way of my work, so I'll ignore that. Gender is a social construct, so I get to decide what a man is. And I'm queer, I guess.
- Dogperson
- He plays Mendelsohn for John, like in the canon. Not because John has asked him to(John doesn't know who Mendelsohn is), but because he's made a careful study to garner John's reaction to different composers. He's been doing the same with Mariana, and is slowly but surely honing in on Mozart. Both of these composers bore him, but he doesn't care when it's for his friends <3
- Despite not liking to dance (solitary cyclist part 2), he's very good! He was forced to do ballet and ballroom dancing as a kid. He's mustering up the courage to ask Mariana to dance salsa with him on their next pub escapade, but he always puts it off.
-FRECKLES. A LOT OF 'EM.

One of the Best Sherlock Holmes Adaptations No One Seems to Know
I know that I’ve been mostly (read: only) doing Moriarty the Patriot metas, but I wanted to talk about something different.
I’ve been obsessed with Sherlock Holmes for… a while. Seriously, everyone I talk to is sick of this Victorian detective by now. I’ve also encountered my fair share of adaptations (shoutout to A Study in Emerald, a short story by Neil Gaiman and 221B, a poem by Vincent Starrett, for being some more of my favorite adaptations). But I’ve seen no one - no one - actually talk about my favorite - and in my opinion, one of the best - Sherlock Holmes adaptations.
Sherlock: the Musical (2022)
With a book by Stefan van de Graaff and Denning Burton, and Music and Lyrics by Denning Burton. It’s currently touring, with the full musical available, professionally filmed, on YouTube. The official cast recording is available on YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, and more.
I could geek out about this musical for literal hours, so some of my favorite highlights will be under the cut. Spoilers ahead, so if you really want to go in blind, listen/watch first.
Now, important to note that this is not an adaptation of BBC Sherlock, like the name might imply. This is an adaptation of the original stories by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Firstly, the opening song, Streets of London.
This song gives you the perfect insight into all the major characters (sans Moriarty).
Sherlock Holmes, the famous consulting detective, is completely confident in his abilities. No criminals can escape: “not when you're messing with Sherlock and John/you just lose your freedom”.
John Watson is Holmes’ loyal companion, his Boswell. Whereas Holmes sets them up as partners, John sees things a bit differently: “right by his side is my spot/and I’m just fine writing lines of what he did”.
Lestrade is impressed by “this Baker Street detective”, while fellow Scotland Yard officer Alice is a bit more judgemental and skeptical: “he doesn’t have any friends”.
youtube
We also get this lovely chorus (00:54):
”Streets of London hide
Nothing from Sherlock’s eyes
This darkening plot
Is not what you thought, so
Are you watching close enough?
Blink you’ll miss this mystery unwind
He won’t be undone
Sherlock Holmes, always one step ahead of them
There’s only one you can’t outrun in London”
This song establishes the two main conflicts of the musical: the public perception of Sherlock Holmes and Watson’s relationship to Holmes.
Now, Holmes and Watson have a duet, Elementary, where their chorus reads:
“It’s elementary
Without a doubt, we’re the greatest duo sround
Elementary
The higher we go, the further they fall down
It’s just like gravity
How do we do the things we do?
It’s a natural phenomenon
That the best things come in two
It’s elementary”
And yet, Watson still says in the bridge: “behind every legend stand dynamic friends”. He’s behind the legend, in that he’s responsible for Holmes’ fame, but he’s also behind the legend; he’s just… not as important as Sherlock Holmes.
And, in case you didn’t notice: in Streets of London, the ensembles sings Holmes’ praises. Not Watson’s. The only person who notices Watson’s contributions is Holmes. Not even Moriarty does, not all the way.
Moriarty first becomes known when he plants a bomb that even Sherlock wasn’t able find- it was Watson who found it. However, the bomb never went off. Still, the story somehow makes it to the paper that Sherlock stopped the bomb.
The song Read All About It is something of a reprise of Streets of London, both in music and theme. It drills in the fact that Sherlock works alone, that it’s him and him alone who can save London. The way the public is whipped into a fervor of idealism is almost similar to Moriarty the Patriot, actually.
However, while the public places their faith in Holmes, he worries:
“Terror in London Nowhere to hide, fear in the streets, people are running Running to me How could I not see it coming? How do I not know what’s coming?”
See, the climax of this musical is the song One Step Ahead. Moriarty has lured both Holmes and Watson to Reichenbach Falls under the assumption that the other is in danger. Moriarty then holds Watson at gun point and tells Holmes that if he doesn’t jump, he’ll shoot Watson. In the end, Holmes agrees, and the song ends with this exchange:
“Holmes: I have to save John
So this is how it ends
Not enough time
Maybe death will be a friend
Moriarty: You? You don’t have any friends-
Watson: This time I’m one step ahead of you!”
Watson then tackles Moriarty off the cliff before Holmes can jump, leaving Holmes alone on the cliff.
The next song, Love Someone, is just- it’s so good. It can be read as both platonic or romantic, but the underlying fact is that Watson has shown Sherlock how important loving someone is, and how important it is to hold the ones you love close because “time is yours before it slips away”.
And, some more of my favorite lyrics from this song:
“It was love that took all my fear away If that love could be here and here to stay How would things change?”
“Love someone Love can hold the world until healing comes The greatest conclusion yet, when all is said and done”
“If you’ve prayed for a moment, pled to take their place And yet how quiet it felt, when you imagined their face Pure love, unchanged, a peace that carries your pain Time is yours, before it slips away”
And of course, the last line: “things have changed now”. The acknowledgement that Holmes is fundamentally different without Watson, and maybe can’t even be Holmes without Watson. It’s so incredibly touching.
Of course, though, Watson isn’t truly gone. We learn shortly after his funeral that he managed to survive by holding onto a ledge he spotted when making his way up the cliff in the first place.
This is where we truly learn how much everyone underestimated Watson. See, while Moriarty was the only one to see Watson’s importance to Sherlock, Holmes was the only one to see Watson’s true value. Watson is smart and competent; when Moriarty planted a bomb, he was the one who jumped on top of it with no hesitation (a la Captain America).
We wrap up with Streets of London (Reprise), where Holmes and Watson accept a new case and return to 221B.
Honorable mentions of stuff I ADORE about this musical:
Watson’s song Into the Shadow. Not only are the vocals superb, this song perfectly encapsulates how Watson has faded into Holmes’ shadow in the public eye. But his solemn acceptance of this - “if it saves your life/and they forget mine/then I don’t mind/stepping back into the shadows” - just makes it heartbreaking.
The fact that every single musical number is just awesome. A Different Story, where Holmes, Watson, Lestrade, and Alice interrogate a suspect? A Most Unusual Case, where we see the people who come to Holmes for help? The Greatest Mind, where Holmes and Moriarty first face off? ALL OF THEM are great, including the ones I didn’t just list. The lyrics, instrumentation, and vocals just blow me away.
The references to other cases! For just two examples: in A Most Unusual Case, the blue diamond in a coat sleeve is a reference to The Blue Carbuncle; and in Streets of London (Reprise), the recently engaged typist with a mysteriously vanished fiancée is A Case of Identity.
Also, Watson making deductions in Streets of London (Reprise) is just great :D
The way Watson supposedly dies at Reichenbach, and the subconscious message that it doesn’t matter that it was Watson who died instead of Holmes; either way, Holmes and Watson are dead. The death of one is the death of the other.
The way minor characters like Mrs. Hudson and Mycroft are portrayed is amazing. Seriously, I love the characterization here.
Just… I love this musical so much. It just feels like a love letter to Sherlock Holmes, and the passion behind it is astounding.
So, yeah. If you like Sherlock Holmes, give this a watch/listen. (Please, I really need to know that more people are aware of this masterpiece).

Post Series 2 Rec List
Compiled for you here is a collection of BBC Johnlock stories that diverge from canon after the Reichenbach Falls, and Sherlock's time away. A few include Johnlock pre-TRF, but most focus on their relationship developing after Sherlock's return.
Phantom Vibrations by camerasparring 2.3k words
John knows exactly how Sherlock functions. Sherlock constantly needs to know where John is.
notes: fluffy, follows John recounting all the times Sherlock has disappeared on him until he returns for good
Always by addicted2hugh locked 6k words
A study in Sherlock, or: The years it took John Watson to fall in love
notes: their relationship pre and post reichenbach
The Zebra Sheets by agirlsname @agrlsname 13.7k words
Sherlock is back from the dead and he's exhausted. So is John. They go on a holiday to a faraway cottage and unexpected truths are revealed.
notes: loved the pacing, felt so dreamy and sensual, they just adore each other so much
Hesitance. by Ireallydontcare443 3k words
Sherlock begins to notice certain parts of his behaviour have changed... drastically, and eventually so does John.
notes: Sherlock has ptsd after returning from the fall, and John fumbles while trying to help him the best he can.
Practising by liriodendron 5.7k
"Sherlock Holmes’ return to 221B Baker Street had gone, initially, exactly as he had expected. Upon discovering him sprawled nonchalantly in the sitting room when returning from a shift at the surgery, John had punched him in the jaw. Twice. That had, of course, been a near inevitability and any other reaction would have been cause for worry."
notes: John is lovely, Sherlock goes a bit stir crazy with how much he loves John, John flirting and teasing Sherlock
as we are defined by the_arc5 4.8k words
People assume things about them, but nobody really gets it. Nobody really understands what they are. Of course, John isn't quite sure he understands, either.
notes: John thinking he is worth nothing to Sherlock and pining for him before the fall, getting together after Sherlock's return
Pulse by FinAmour 3.5k words
“I can’t believe you left me this way,” he says to me with an expression of immeasurable sadness. “And there are countless things I need to know.”
Heaving a sigh, he tightens his grip around my wrists. “But not now. All I need to know now, Sherlock, is that you're real.”
He stands there silently, eyes closed, feeling the beat of my heart at his fingertips, and he doesn’t let go for a very long time.
Sweet Thing by peevee 2.4k
In the living room, jars covered every surface.
Clusters of them - every shade from the palest gold to treacly black - on the floor and on the tables, piled on the mantelpiece and on the chairs.
notes: Sherlock nudging himself back into John's life after the fall, no Mary, kissing covered in honey
Survival Instinct by shirleyholmes 7.1k words
Prompt: After Sherlock's "comeback" John starts obsessing with constantly making sure he's alive (checking his heartbeat etc.)
“Don’t. Just- come in. It’s cold and—you look like you came—“
“Back from the dead?” Sherlock suggested.
notes: checking pulse, John coping with Sherlocks return, nightmares, overall fluff
Victory Shag by loveanddeathandartandtaxes for scullyseviltwin 3.5k
It becomes habit. Solve a stressful case; have sex.
notes: fwb to lovers
Things We Swore We'd Never Do by liriodendron 2.7k words
After hunting down the last of Moriarty's network, Sherlock finally returns home to John. John's response surprises them both. Not entirely devoid of emotional content, but pretty much PWP.
' “Okay…” said John slowly, straightening his shirt. “That was…um…unexpected.” He cleared his throat. “Maybe we should…talk…?”
“Talk. Yes. Definitely,” Sherlock agreed absently, eyes fixed on John like a hawk’s, watching his every movement.
“Good, yes, quite… we should…sit and…talk…”
And then they collided again, as if drawn by an elemental force.'
The Mission to Flirt by MutedSilence 9k words
Turns out John has been staring at Sherlock like a love sick teen. Greg decides that John just needs to flirt. So, he does. Sort of. He certainly tried to at least.
notes: lighthearted, found from searching ‘fluff’ & ‘first kiss’, John figuring out how to flirt with Sherlock
All This Time by stopthat 3.6k words
It’s something we struggle with, still, after all this time.
“We share a life,” John says, eyes searching. “Have you ever wanted anything more from me?”
notes: first ch is Sherlock's pov, second ch is John's pov, stumbling love confessions and first kiss.
Quickly Run Away by stopthat 5.3k words
A few weeks after Sherlock's return, he drags John to his childhood home in Yorkshire. There's just something about the place. It says a lot about how Sherlock views their relationship, he supposes, that he’s brought him here—or it would, if it were anyone else.
Lush by stopthat 3.6k words
They stare at each other for entirely too long, suddenly unwilling to break their shared gaze. John looks, as he often does, like he has something to say. But then the barman flips on the overhead bulbs, dousing the pub in horrible fluorescent light, and with a small sigh he stands, a bit wobbly on his feet, and hauls Sherlock up with him.

A Study of the Heart and Brain (Book 4) Epilogue
Father Figure! Sherlock Holmes x Teen! Reader
Epilogue: Brave Heart and Clever Brain
Summary: It's time for the rest of (Y/N)'s life to begin.
Mouse Note: And it's a wrap for A Study of the Heart and Brain. Wow. I can't believe so many years of this story have already gone by! Purple, Sherlock, and John have been so close to my heart for so long that it's sad to say goodbye, but I'm happy to say that they have happy lives in front of them. Thank you so much for all the support you've given to me over the years! I'll miss you all and hope to see you back for future projects! Thank you! This has been an amazing experience!
“John’s calling,” said (Y/N) as they put a new skull on the mantle of the rebuilt 221B. It had taken time and effort (and money they blackmailed Mycroft into getting), but the flat was back. Their home was back.
“I hate answering calls,” said Sherlock.
“I’m going to answer it,” said (Y/N). They pressed the accept button. “Hello, John.”
“Sherlock, (Y/N),” said John. “I think you better get round here.”
Sherlock and (Y/N) exchanged a look.
l
John held the disc that read “MISS YOU” on the top. Solemnly, he put it into the DVD player, and the TV turned on.
Mary’s face greeted them once more. She smiled. “P.S,” she said.
It was the next part of her original message. Sherlock, John, and (Y/N) leaned forward.
“I know you three,” said Mary. “And if I’m gone, I know what you could become. Because I know who you really are. A junkie who solves crimes to get high. The doctor who never came home from the war. And the teenager who is too smart for their own good. Will you listen to me? Who you really are, it doesn’t matter. It’s all about the legend, the stories, the adventures. There is a last refuge for the desperate, the unloved, the persecuted. There is a final court of appeal for everyone. When life gets too strange, too impossible, too frightening, there is always one last hope. When all else fails, there are three people sitting, arguing in a scruffy flat, like they’ve always been there and they always will. The best and wisest people I have ever known, my Baker Street family, Sherlock Holmes, (Y/N) Holmes, and Dr. Watson.”
(Y/N) smiled.
l
“Congratulations!” cheered Lestrade, Mrs. Hudson, and John. Rosie babbled in John’s arms. Mycroft lifted his drink but didn’t cheer.
(Y/N) grinned and proudly held up the signed adoption papers. They had already been part of the Holmes family for years, but this just made it even more official.
“That’s my kid!” said Sherlock, smiling ear-to-ear.
He hugged (Y/N) tightly, and they hugged him back. Their home was whole once more. 221B was rebuilt. John was back. Even Eurus had started to smile when playing, and Mr. and Mrs. Holmes had gotten to hear her play with Sherlock and (Y/N).
They were going to be okay. They were okay. The Holmes family was together.
A knock at the door. (Y/N) turned to it.
“No one else was invited,” said John, frowning.
“I’ll send off the client,” huffed Mrs. Hudson.
“No, no, it’s a guest,” said Sherlock.
“Who?” (Y/N) tilted their head.
“I invited them to dinner.” Sherlock smiled.
(Y/N)’s eyes widened, and they moved to the door in a moment.
“Who—” John watched (Y/N) throw the door open.
“Good evening, everyone.” Irene Adler smiled, dressed in purple dress and heels.
“Irene,” said (Y/N), smiling.
“Oh, god,” groaned Mycroft.
“You texted her back,” said John, grinning at Sherlock.
“For (Y/N),” said Sherlock.
John shook his head fondly.
“Thanks for coming,” said (Y/N) as they walked to the living room with Irene.
“Of course,” said Irene. She looked at them. “Are you doing alright? I heard about what happened. I thought the call was strange.”
Mycroft sighed, knowing one of his men had been compromised and told her everything, but (Y/N) was just happy.
“I’m doing fine,” said (Y/N).
Irene patted their cheek. “Good.” She leaned in briefly. “And I meant every word.”
(Y/N) ducked their head. “I did, too.”
Irene smiled at them. “I’m glad.” She turned towards the table. “How is everyone feeling?” She looked at Mycroft and smirked. “I’ve heard your position as the ‘clever one’ of the family has been usurped.”
“It has not,” said Mycroft indignantly.
“I’m smarter than you,” said (Y/N), looking at him and smirking. “I’m the smartest Holmes.”
“I agree with them,” said Sherlock.
Mycroft rolled his eyes and looked at Irene. “You are quite daring to return here.”
“Am I?” remarked Irene innocently, sitting down.
(Y/N) watched their family begin to interact with one another and smiled. They looked at Sherlock. “You actually invited her.”
“Your whole family is here,” said Sherlock, smiling at them.
(Y/N) hugged him. “Thank you, Dad. Thank you so much. For finding me, for teaching me, for loving me.”
Sherlock hugged him back. “I’d do it a thousand times. I love you, (Y/N).”
“I love you, too, Dad,” said (Y/N). They had everything they needed. Love, family, a brave heart, and a clever brain. They had everything they ever wanted.
l
Years later…
“You be good for Mrs. Hudson, alright?” John looked at a now toddler Rosie with a smile.
Rosie nodded. “Uh-huh.”
“And if Sherlock told you to see what would happen if you do…anything…don’t do it,” said John.
Rosie just smiled, and John groaned. Unfortunately, he couldn’t help looking at her fondly.
“(Y/N), you ready?” said Sherlock.
An adult (Y/N) nodded as they entered the room. They pulled on a long purple coat. “Of course.” They smirked. “I’m always ready. After all…” They tossed Sherlock’s deerstalker to him. “The game is on.”

Fanfics I really liked in August 2024
So. Since I keep a list of what I´ve read anyway (there´s always a list), I will rec all the fics I´ve wholly enjoyed on a monthly basis. Old and new, canon or AU, big or small authors, long or short but nearly always Johnlock (-ish).
++++++
Lost Boy Found by suitesamba @suitesamba
10 Years after Sherlock's "suicide," he returns to 221B to find that life - and John - have moved on but finds that there is always room for one more in a family.
Great reunion fic and John has a lovely son.
Thankless (a 5 + 1) by Silvergirl @totallysilvergirl
Five times that helping Sherlock Holmes was a thankless task, and one time that it wasn't.
Snippets of Sherlock's past and awesome Greg Lestrade.
A Study in Strays by philalethia
John Watson moves to 221B Baker Street. Unfortunately, the flat's already occupied.
Catlock. Need I say more?
Leveling Up by philalethia
John plays video games, Sherlock writes a guide on GameFAQs, and they get on quite well together... eventually. Told entirely through emails, text messages, and voice chats.
Enemies to lovers, one of my fave tropes. Sherlock is a delightful arse but John gets to like him...
Becoming Us (A reunion in three parts) by addicted2hugh @addicted2hugh
After watching Mary's last message, Sherlock and John try to be the "Baker Street Boys" again. Rebuilding the destroyed flat is the easy part. Will they manage to rebuild their friendship as well? And what did Mary mean when she said: "And if I'm gone, I know what you could become."?
S4 fix-it with hurt/comfort and friends to lovers. Addictive to read.
What It Is by addicted2hugh
How I wish TLD had ended. John regrets bringing up The Woman. Sherlock is confused. Instead of birthday cake, there is birthday sex (with obstacles). Everything's alright in the end. I'm really bad at summaries.
TLD fix-it with hurt/comfort and friends to lovers. Very wholesome fix-it, no TFP.
#my fanfic recs#fanfics I really liked in August 2024#I am so late with this#like so so late#because of writing for FTH and whumptober

I saw you said you write for Sherlock, are requests still open? I have a short blurb of an idea. Reader has a long day at college and Sherlock notices and tries to help, maybe with just pulling reader away from an assignment or something. Fluff, lots of fluff. (I’m tired, thank you for reading this ask though, you don’t have to write it)
A Mystery of Calm
bbc/Sherlock Holmes x Reader
718 words
I decided to combine your idea with one I already had, I'm also in college, so I know how complicated and difficult this period of our lives can be, but we'll get through it.
As it's the first time I've written after so long, I decided to write something not so long, but I hope it doesn't upset you.
Enjoy reading, I hope you like it.
❀﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏❀
It was almost 7 a.m. and Sherlock Holmes was at home at 221B Baker Street, immersed in yet another of his cases, something about a politician killed during his own election campaign. But his attention was focused on something much closer: you, his partner.
He knew that your exams were approaching and that this made you feel overwhelmed. The stress was consuming you, it even seemed to have become a feature of your personality. Worrying about getting the best grades and staying among the best students was like a big weight on your shoulders, it was all you could think about, with no time for distractions or fun, not even the most fascinating books could hold your attention anymore.
Sherlock looked around again and found himself getting worried, it was still so early and you hadn't even taken a break from your studies to eat or sleep the night before, it was clear that you were tired, he could tell just by your breathing and droopy eyes. Noticing your anxiety, Sherlock decided it was time to put work aside and use his skills not only to solve mysteries, but also to help the love of his life.
"Darling," he said softly, approaching where you were sitting, "you need a rest."
You looked at him, a tired expression mixed with doubt. "But I have so much to study, Sherlock! I have a very important exam tomorrow, I don't want to do badly."
Holmes smiled, knowing that you needed more than words of comfort "Sometimes the best way to move forward is to take a step back. Your grades are excellent and you've studied hard, I think a rest and some fresh air wouldn't hurt. How about a walk in the park? We can have a picnic, have something to eat, I can even show you my favorite crime scenes," he says with a sweet smile on his face.
Reluctantly, you agreed. Soon, the two of you were in Hyde Park, where the trees swayed gently and the sun illuminated the path. Sherlock knew you needed him at that moment, so even if it was just something simple, he made the effort and asked Mrs. Hudson to help him prepare a delicious picnic, with sandwiches, fruit and some tea.
You sat under the shade of your favorite tree, the same one where he met you for the first time and asked you various questions, considering you a suspect in one of his cases, where you had your first date and where he assumed that for the first time he might be having romantic feelings for someone. As you ate, he watched you with affection. "You know, even the greatest detectives need a moment's break. The mind needs to be aired in order to find solutions."
You laughed, just being away from your books and study materials made you feel a little lighter. "But I'm not a detective, Sherlock."
"But you are a problem solver," he replied, looking into her eyes. "Life, like a mystery, takes time and patience."
After the picnic, he led her to a quieter area of the park. "Close your eyes and listen," he said. "The sounds of nature can be as comforting as a book."
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, feeling your worries dissipate. The birdsong, the gentle whisper of the wind, and Sherlock's reassuring presence beside you brought a peace you couldn't remember feeling for weeks.
Sherlock approaches you, placing his hand gently on your cheek and leaving a kiss under your lips. You smile as he pulls away, knowing that despite everything, you had chosen the right person for you.
"Thank you, my love," you whisper, still close to him.
"And remember, love," he says with a smile. "When everything seems like an unsolvable mystery, it's good to have someone by your side to help clear your head."
In a new mood, you returned home, knowing that you had studied enough and now needed a little rest for your mind. After a long, relaxing bath, you lay down on the bed you shared every night with Sherlock and felt him tuck the soft sheet under your body.
"Sleep well, my love," he says, leaving a light kiss on your forehead and leaving your room to finally let you rest.
