Charles Beck - Russian River Fog
There are numerous bends in the Russian just like this. Riverbanks abutted by steep forested hills with fog from the ocean not far away, still hanging around till late morning.
One of my fantasies is to have a time machine to take me back before the first giant redwood was ever cut along the river and drift on a kayak from Guerneville to the rivers end past Jenner town. Won't happen so the best I can do is imagine part of the journey in a painting.

From our earliest days, humans have built stacks. Ancient sites are hallmarked by assemblages of stones, of skulls, of pounded earth. The habit spread around the globe, people everywhere finding new things to pile up—fresh-picked fruit, bolts of cloth, books, barrels, treasure, garbage…and, animals.
Long ago sailors piled their ships' holds with giant tortoises—living rations, ready to be cracked open when hardtack became intolerable. The bones of bison formed cairns to mark the boundaries of a shrinking wilderness, while billions of pigeons were shot from its sky to be heaped into mountains of their own.
The problem of mass consumption is approaching a violent crescendo; yet, modern pyramids are less visible, obfuscated by distance and deniability. While a lone exotic bird in a pet store may catch our eye, it's easy to overlook the unseen multitudes that are trafficked each year to satisfy human greed and ego---the tigers that are poached; the farmed stags, bred with antlers too heavy to lift their heads.
Will we continue to build until we are the ones who are finally crushed at the bottom?
In this series of oil paintings on canvas, I use stacking as a visual metaphor for human use and misuse, and more specifically as a way to represent the commodification that has impacted an assortment of different animals: parrots, elephants, giant tortoises, tigers, and whitetail deer:

"Lead them to paradise".
After several months of internal debating (and some peer pressure 😅), I've decided to celebrate the holidays by making my DUNE Part 2 poster available for a limited time on my INPRNT shop.
There's a Black Friday site-wide sale throughout November so be mindful that the price will change on Dec 1st.
Apart from posters, the piece is also available in: Fine art prints, canvas prints, acrylic/photographic prints and card packs.
I painted this originally in 18x24 inches but the site lists the maximum poster size as 20x24 for some reason. Keep that in mind!
You can purchase it here.
Share it with your Dune-pilled friends ✨

I DID IT. Barely. It’s not midnight where I am ok it’s still technically @morweekofficial
This was actually for Titles but she’s fighting for freedom so free day works I (hope) think.
The Morrigan From the War.
Oil on canvas, 20x24”.
I may go back to this and add in all the missing detail at some point haha but for now I’m good lol.
Happy Mor Week everyone! And thank you to the incredible organizers that made the week so special! You guys rock!
Also I’m cool for this to be cross posted to the Mor week Instagram :) I don’t remember the rules for that but if that’s a thing go for it.

Getting some more terrain tiles added to the mix, just finished 8 of them. Once the last four dry, I should be able to make a 20x24 in battlefield out of them. After that, I'll start on adding some hills and other texture to the mix!

Upcoming art assignments:
Art 1- self portraits
They can be made in any art style you’d like, how you represent yourself is your choice, must be done on a 12x16 canvas with acrylic paint. Mixed media is going to be a case by case thing, if you’d like to use something in addition to acrylic email me or see me after class.
Art 2- Basics of sculpting
Currently the first pieces made by students are being glazed and fired. The sculptures were modeled after plants, fruits, and other objects from nature. The catch however was that they needed to be sculpted with no reference, only based on memory. The finished pieces will be on display in the art room within the next two weeks.
Art 3- surrealism watercolor landscapes
Third years will be practicing surrealist landscapes made with watercolors. Surrealism is defined by objects combined in uncommon ways, it aims to go against traditional art rules and revolutionize the human experience. The paintings will be done with watercolors on 11x14 canvases. Mixed media will not be allowed for this project.
Art 4- monochrome paintings
Fourth years will be making monochrome paintings inspired by nature. Students will be allowed to choose whichever color and art style they’d like as long as they are using a single color. If a reference is used the reference photo must be taken by the student. The paintings will be done on 20x24 canvases.
If anyone has any questions/comments/concerns please don’t hesitate to send me an email (ask) or come see me after or during class
