Francophonie Week is the event for the lovers of French words in France and abroad.
Like every year, the Semaine de la langue française et de la Francophonie is the event lovers of words in France and abroad. Organised around 20 March, the International Day of La Francophonie, this edition proposes to discover and appropriate the words of sport and the vocabulary of Olympism, through a theme: «On the podium».
Because words accompany sport. Every sport has its rules written down. Expressions from the sports world are legion in the French language (cast off, nose in the handlebars, pass the relay, etc.). Great speeches have transcended teams and reversed the course of a game. Sport is a game, like playing with words. As sport goes global, the challenge is also to defend the place of the French language.
Once again this year, the Tell me ten words » also looks at the words of sport, chosen by the Department’s francophone partners, and calls on the general public to propose artistic and literary creations around of the following words : “Sport is not only good for health. It instills values of respect (play together, tie up) and surpassing oneself (adrenaline rush, go on a breakaway, perform feats, become champion). Sport is also about determination (the mind), it is also the acceptance of the rules (the false start, the offside) and the need for a break (go orange).”
Discover all the highlights of French Language and Francophonie Week 2024.
Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games (July 26 to September 8) is a golden opportunity to celebrate the French language around the world.

How do you take a picture of happiness? We asked photographers to surprise us.
International Day of Happiness is March 20. The United Nations proclaimed this day in 2012 at the request of Bhutan, a country that actually releases its own annual happiness index.

I was curious about Kamala Harris’ views on important subjects such as Palestine. Especially since she is Indian and in my experience we tend to sympathize with the treatment of people like us.
This article by the New York Times covers her opinion on this and more:

Obviously this little blurb is not all encompassing on her opinion. But it’s something. It’s good to be educated on who we want to elect even if we don’t have a choice since trump is the only other option.

Vote blue because red would be so much worse.

I would take a long look at your state’s carbon credit programs before making a decision. Carbon credits run the whole spectrum from making an actual impact to green washing. If you know how, and how well, your state’s carbon credit program is implemented, your decision should be easier to make.
That's a good idea, I'll take a look at that later for sure.

https://www.usda.gov/media/press-releases/2024/03/11/usda-finalizes-voluntary-product-usa-label-claim-enhance-consumer
I want people to realize we just made "the made in USA" meat label true. For years, the animals only had to be minimally processed in the USA. Packers still have time to comply. Even with the number of farms the US has, we often import meat. Even with this ruling I am sure we will still import meat. With this new tariff the prices on that meat will go up!
"On March 11, 2024 the USDA issued a final rule stating that only meat from animals born, raised, slaughtered, and processed in the United States is eligible for such “Made in USA” labels. The claim remains voluntary and requires packers using the label to comply by 2026."
"Since the repeal of mandatory country of origin labeling (MCOOL) for beef and pork in 2016 (the requirement remains in place for chicken, lamb, and goat), the USDA has allowed foreign meatpackers to mislabel meat that was produced exclusively from animals born, raised, and slaughtered in a foreign country with a “Product of the USA'' label so long as the foreign meat was ‘minimally processed’ in the United States. For example, a meatpacker needed only to unwrap and rewrap an exclusively foreign beef product in a U.S. processing plant to be eligible for the U.S. label. This heavily exploited loophole allowed multinational corporations to mislead consumers by passing off their product as a higher-quality meat raised by U.S. farmers and ranchers. Americans deserve to know the source of their food, and the majority of people wouldn’t think to further question the origin after seeing “Product of the USA” on the label. "

Hi! I recently read the article "Henry VII and the 'New Found Island'" that you quoted and while the article mentioned the fact that 1496 patent letters were granted to John Cabot, I was surprised it didn't mention the details of the patent. Namely, in 1496, Henry VII granted Cabot and his heirs license "to conquer, occupy, possess whatever towns, castles, cities and islands by them thus discovered...acquiring for us the dominion, title and jurisdiction of the same".
You can read the full patent here (https://www.heritage.nf.ca/articles/exploration/1496-cabot-patent.php#:~:text=On%205%20March%201496%2C%20King,on%20Spanish%20or%20Portuguese%20territories.) and "The Cabot Voyages and Bristol Discovery Under Henry VII" by James A. Williamson and R.A Skelton talks about it further.
I figured I'd share this since it's certainly not a well known fact about Henry VII's reign, and it's quite frustrating when it's either skimmed over or outright ignored in several biographies and history books about him. It probably marks the transition between a desire for "trade" and speculative exploration of Edward IV's reign (who, as the article mentions, seems to have believed that "friendship and legitimate trade with Portugal was more important than speculative exploration on the African coast". From what I read, by a public proclamation in 1482, he forbade voyages to Guinea and sent a written guarantee to the Portuguese King, which may have helped renew the Treaty of Windsor. There were probably former, although limited, voyages in 1480 and 1481, though) to the explicit desire and mention of "conquest", as Henry VII's patent clearly mentions. It's a clear indication of the changing and evolving notions and practises of English exploration and colonization, tied and influenced by the wider European notions and practises of the same.
The article also does a great deal of speculating on the 1501 & 1502 patents which ordered the groups of men to chastise and punish anyone who r*ped or violated women of the islands they discovered and conquered, and what that said about Henry VII. The article took a bit of a strange route by trying to analyze this based on the personal treatment of the women in Henry's life, but to be honest, it makes little to no sense. Henry may have been concerned as a monarch, but it's nonetheless very clear that this order was within the broader requirements of order and jurisdiction. More importantly, such orders were quite standard and formulaic at the time: as the article itself says, a far more encompassing one was issued by Isabella and Ferdinand of all people, who were responsible for a good deal of brutality and suffering in the territories they possessed (including Spain itself). Such orders mattered very little, if at all, in practise, as monarchs at the time were well aware. It says little to nothing about Henry VII on a personal level and should not be regarded as such.
It's a wack-ass article 😂 I only quoted from it because I mentioned Edward IV's alliance with Castile in the previous ask. I mean, it's got a lot of interesting info but you can see the author's personal dislike for Henry VII gets in the way of their analysis. Like you said, if every European ruler was setting the same rules, they don't sound particular to one ruler's personality specifically — not to mention: no, Henry VII did not try to marry Catherine of Aragon! And so many other things that the author cites as 'proof' of Henry's mores which are just: lol. The same author wrote an article on Anglo-Portuguese relations in the 15th century and they conclude by saying:
Any undergraduate textbook or popular history will reveal that England's mature diplomatic policy began with the Tudors, yet another victory for the historiographical line invented by Henry himself. To follow that line is to ignore decades, if not centuries, of fruitful and broad-based alliance, particularly with the Portuguese.
Don't you just hate when Henry VII rises from beyond the grave and makes historians write the words he wants them to write! First the rascal did it to Shakespeare & all the 16th-century chroniclers who wrote things after his passing, then he did it to all textbook historians! See how Henry VII controls historians like puppets from the afterlife:

Colloidal Silicon Dioxide Prices Trend, Monitor, News & Forecast | ChemAnalyst
Tumblr media
Colloidal silicon dioxide prices have experienced fluctuations influenced by various factors, including global market dynamics, industrial demand, and production costs. Understanding these price movements requires a comprehensive analysis of supply and demand dynamics, technological advancements, and macroeconomic indicators.
One of the primary drivers affecting colloidal silicon dioxide prices is the balance between supply and demand within the chemical industry. Colloidal silicon dioxide, also known as silica nanoparticles, is widely used as a flow agent, anti-caking agent, and thickening agent in pharmaceuticals, food products, and cosmetics. Disruptions in the supply chain, such as fluctuations in raw material prices or production capacity, can impact the availability and cost of colloidal silicon dioxide, thereby influencing its market price.
Industrial demand plays a crucial role in determining colloidal silicon dioxide prices. The pharmaceutical, food, and personal care industries are major consumers of colloidal silicon dioxide, using it in formulations to improve product stability, texture, and performance. Fluctuations in demand from these sectors, influenced by factors such as consumer preferences, regulatory changes, and technological advancements, can lead to price volatility for colloidal silicon dioxide.
Raw material costs significantly influence colloidal silicon dioxide prices. The price of raw materials used in its production, such as silicon compounds and solvents, can fluctuate due to changes in global supply and demand dynamics, energy costs, and currency fluctuations. Any substantial increase in raw material costs can translate into higher production costs for colloidal silicon dioxide manufacturers, thereby exerting upward pressure on prices.
Get Real Time Colloidal Silicon Dioxide Prices : https://www.chemanalyst.com/Pricing-data/colloidal-silicon-dioxide-1246#:~:text=Towards%20the%20end%20of%20the,for%20Ex%2DMumbai%20in%20March.&text=The%20price%20of%20colloidal%20silicon%20dioxide%20dramatically%20climbed%20in%20the,consistently%2C%20according%20to%20ChemAnalyst%20analysis.
Macroeconomic indicators, such as GDP growth, inflation rates, and currency exchange rates, can indirectly impact colloidal silicon dioxide prices by affecting overall industrial activity and consumer demand. Economic downturns or currency devaluations in major colloidal silicon dioxide-consuming regions may lead to decreased demand and downward pressure on prices. Conversely, robust economic growth and stable currencies can support higher prices for colloidal silicon dioxide by stimulating demand for industrial chemicals.
Technological advancements and innovation also influence colloidal silicon dioxide prices by creating new applications and production methods. Advanced manufacturing processes and nanotechnology developments can lead to cost savings and performance improvements in colloidal silicon dioxide production, potentially affecting price levels.
Looking ahead, several factors are expected to continue influencing colloidal silicon dioxide prices. Continued growth in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food processing, and cosmetics, particularly in emerging markets, is likely to drive sustained demand for colloidal silicon dioxide. Moreover, advancements in materials science and engineering could lead to the development of new applications for colloidal silicon dioxide, further influencing demand and price levels.
In conclusion, colloidal silicon dioxide prices are subject to a complex interplay of factors including supply and demand dynamics, industrial trends, raw material costs, macroeconomic indicators, and technological advancements. Stakeholders in the chemical industry must closely monitor these factors to anticipate price movements and make informed decisions. As consumer preferences evolve and technologies advance, navigating the dynamic landscape of colloidal silicon dioxide pricing will remain a key challenge for industry participants.
