Alex Bollinger at LGBTQ Nation:
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has made opposition to the existence of trans people central to her brand in her time in Congress, but she has claimed that she’s OK with gender nonconforming behavior, going so far as to wear a tuxedo herself to a D.C. event. She claims to only have an issue with people assigned male at birth identifying as women and using women’s facilities, but that she doesn’t care about how people live their lives. But now she’s outraged that Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness wore a dress to the Golden Globes. Mace has made national headlines since November for her crusade against Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), the first transgender person elected to Congress. Mace introduced a resolution to ban McBride from using the women’s facilities at the Capitol complex, has posted hundreds of times to social media attacking transgender people, and has made numerous media appearances to promote anti-transgender policies.
Throughout this battle, she has maintained that she is fine with gender nonconformity and even claimed that trans people’s existence is a threat to gender nonconforming people. For example, in December she tweeted, “Girls who are tomboys are still girls,” a reference to the false anti-transgender claim that kids who don’t follow their gender’s stereotypes are being forced to transition. Mace herself faced attacks from her fellow conservatives in 2023 when she wore a tuxedo to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. [...] It seems that Mace’s support for gender nonconformity has run out. Anti-LGBTQ+ hate influencer Chaya Raichik – who goes by Libs of TikTok on social media – posted a picture of Van Ness in a green dress from the red carpet of the Golden Globes this past weekend. “Grown man dresses up as a woman,” Raichik wrote about Van Ness, who is nonbinary. “He looks absolutely ridiculous.” Sharing Raichik’s post, Mace wrote, “An actual woman wouldn’t be seen in public wearing that.” Van Ness does not identify as a woman, and it’s unclear why she claimed that no woman would want to wear the satin Christian Siriano gown.
Van Ness came out as nonbinary in 2019 and often wears clothing associated with all genders in public. They have also been on the receiving end of transphobic comments about their appearance for years. “Also I love all these transphobic comments in here,” they wrote in response to hate they received after wearing a dress to the Creative Arts Emmys in 2018. “The guy in a dress’ is insulting and for anyone that doesn’t see the implications is blind. F**king rood people I’m too tired.” Mace has been using transphobia to build her political career since before she was elected to Congress. In her first campaign for Congress, she made up a law that she claimed required “transgender equality in the military,” said that her Democratic opponent was responsible for it, and said that it would result in a Marine Corps base in her district getting shut down. It was all a lie – there was no such law and the Marine base is still in operation today – but it helped her secure her seat in Congress. In her second run for Congress, she accused her opponent of providing “SEX CHANGE SURGERY. PUBERTY BLOCKERS. GENDER CHANGING HORMONES. FOR CHILDREN?” in an ad, even though her opponent was a doctor who worked at a hospital that didn’t provide gender-affirming care for trans people at all. Her opponent was forced to resign from her job.
Spoiled brat crybaby Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who once wore a tuxedo to the 2023 WHCD, threw a baby fit over nonbinary actor Jonathan Van Ness’s Golden Globes dress.

After seeing that shitty frenchamerican movie about mexicans without mexicans in the main cast winning so many awards im glad Brazil winned this! I dont even care about oscar, this is HUGE!!!!
"I'm still here" isnt just a random film. It is about the military dictatorship, which on the contrary of countries like Argentina and Chile, Brazil didnt punished most part of the people that did and colaborated for all the deaths, crimes and opressions, and many families still and probably wont ever know where their family members were "buried/disposed".
And not only historic value and resistance against military coups (which are a constant threat with the rise of extreme right in Brazilian politics and military), this is a win for the lack of support and acknowledgement brazilian cinema has, by our own government and by gringos, that keep on pretending the world is just hollywood and some few european countries
My position is that gringo awards arent the reason we make films. But it does help a lot. It attracts investment, international film companies, something continents like latin america doesnt have compared to japan, korea, china, india and european countries own independent film and shows productions, so much they even have prestigious relevant cinema and tv show awards season.
