"England is celebrating the first pair of beaver kits born in the country since they were reintroduced back into the country’s north last year.

Landscape managers in England are beside themselves with surprise over the changes brought about by a single year of beaver residency at the Wallington Estate in Northumberland—with dams, mudflats, and ponds just appearing out of nowhere across the landscape.

Released into a 25-acre habitat on the estate last year, the four beavers at Wallington are part of a series of beaver returns that took place across the UK starting in 2021 in Dorset. Last year, GNN reported that Hasel and Chompy were released into the 925-acre Ewhurst Estate in Hampshire in January 2023, and the beavers that have now reproduced established their home in Wallington in July.

“Beavers are changing the landscape all the time, you don’t really know what is coming next and that probably freaks some people out,” said Paul Hewitt, the countryside manager for the trust at Wallington. “They are basically river anarchists.”

“This time last year I don’t think I fully knew what beavers did. Now I understand a lot more and it is a massive lightbulb moment. It is such a magical animal in terms of what it does.”

It’s believed that the only animal which alters the natural environment to the same extent as humans is the beaver. Their constant felling of trees to construct dams causes creeks to build up into pools that spill out during rainfall across the land, cutting numerous other small channels into the soil that distribute water in multiple directions.

Hewitt says that in Wallington this has translated to a frantic return of glorious wildlife like kingfishers, herons, and bats.

Recently the mature pair of beavers mated and produced a kit, though its sex is not yet known because beavers don’t have external genitalia.

These beaver reintroductions have led to a raft of beaver sightings around the country. Those at the National Trust working to rewild the beaver back into Great Britain hope the recovery of the landscape will convince authorities to permit further reintroductions to bigger areas."

The Special Rapporteur said Israel had once again arbitrarily denied her access to the Occupied Palestinian Territory, compelling her to report on the situation of Palestinians under occupation from neighbouring states. Albanese said her visit demonstrated that the situation in Gaza is worse than previously assessed, with serious and multi-layered long-term implications. Most victims she met had endured catastrophic injuries, witnessed family members killed and experienced the effects of Israel’s destruction of Gaza’s health infrastructure, even after 26 January 2024, when the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a ruling ordering Israel to prevent genocide in Gaza. The Grenfell Tower fire was one of the most appalling tragedies in recent British history. The two-day blaze killed 72 people and in turn, led to a national uproar. Still to this day, millions of Brits remember those who lost their lives during the fire, with communities regularly coming together through a slew of different mediums. One community-driven collective that was launched off the back of the Grenfell fire is Grenfell Athletic FC, a local grassroots football team that was founded to help young men come together. The football club — launched by Rupert Taylor — has just unveiled a brand-new football kit, made in collaboration with Nike and Kitlocker, that features cuts of fabric donated from items of clothing that survived the Grenfell fire, including some garments worn by the survivors on the night of their escape.

The new kits have been launched under a project titled “Fabric of the Community,” with each shirt designed to include a subtle perimeter area surrounding the club crest, reserved for a bespoke cut of fabric. One survivor from the Grenfell fire was Nick Burton, whose wife was tragically the 72nd victim of the fire. He donated the shirt worn on the night of the fire, using this project as a moment to gain further closure from the incident.

Commenting on the donation of his shirt for the “Fabric of the Community Campaign,” Mr Burton said: “This is one of the only connections that I have to my home. I feel that it’s time to let go and now it will live on as part of the fabric of the community – the community that is everything to us.”

The clean-cut shirt, which will be worn by Grenfell Athletic’s men’s and women’s teams during the 2024/25 season, is designed with NFC technology that’s intricately crafted into the shirts by Kitlocker, allowing fans to digitally interact with the kit, as an NFC chip is embedded behind the club badge, thus linking to a touching video that relates to the shirt’s donated fabric.

Along with victims of the Grenfell fire, several non-local supporters of the club have also donated to the campaign, including Hector Bellerin who donated a match-worn shirt from his time at Arsenal. One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has also donated one of his treasured Doncaster Rovers shirts.

Interviewer: So you've announced that you're doing your own streaming platform correct? What's going to change really you know? Ryan: For Ghost Files, I mean it's kind of the thing that's going to allow us to take bigger swings like we did this season, like going international, upgrading some of our kit, and just overall making the show better and more sustainable behind the scenes 'cuz it's a really hard show to make. And then as far as like other series it's going to allow us to make those a little bit better but also allow us to make new series in general, and also bring on new faces to the to the channel that we haven't previously been able to. YouTube is like a little bit of a harder place sometimes for that kind of content to survive…sometimes if something isn't getting the proper amount of views that it would need it wouldn't survive perhaps in that environment but on a different environment, perhaps our own platform, then maybe it will have a better chance and now that we have both it'll allow us to, I guess, really give everything a try. But really more than anything it's just about improving things across the board and then taking bigger risks on our shows.
