2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI Review: How the Hot Hatch Icon Stays Relevant After 45 Years
Tumblr media
The Iconic Hot Hatch Returns: Inside the Latest Golf GTI
As an ardent fan who’s owned three GTIs over the last 15 years, few new car launches get me as excited as a new generation of the iconic hot hatch. The Mk8 2022 model ushers the GTI into a high-tech new era while retaining that raw, analogue driving feel intrinsic to its DNA.
A Brief History of an Icon
Ever since the first Mk1 GTI introduced the concept of an attainable, performance-oriented “hot hatch” to the masses in 1976, driving enthusiasts have had a new affordable toy. My first was a handed-down Mk2 from the late 80s, complete with plaid cloth seats cramping four friends during high school cruises along winding backroads (sorry Mom!). But as I upgraded over the next decade from a Mk4 to Mk6, power, tech and refinement increased without losing that playful spirit.
Mk8 Brings Big Upgrades Under a Familiar Shape
You’d be forgiven for not immediately noticing the Mk8 as all-new – the rounded silhouette and C-pillar “kink” are trademark GTI. But under the skin lies the biggest overhaul yet, sitting on VW’s latest MQB platform packing upgraded systems. Options like matrix LED headlights, a digital cockpit and driver assistance systems bring the GTI clearly into the 2020s. Yet a multi-function perforated leather wheel and trademark plaid seats keep that classic identity. More Power with Serious efficiency GTI fans care most about what’s under the hood, and the Mk8’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine adds 13 hp for a total 241 hp and 273 lb-ft torque - hugely usable grunt. My DSG test car hit 60mph in under 6 seconds thanks to that immediate shove, while delivering 34 mpg highway. And the optional performance exhaust pops and crackles just enough to satisfy when revved, without annoying the neighbors constantly. Balanced, Playful Handling Remains Core Strength Through sweeping curves of my favorite SoCal canyon routes, the GTI stayed planted and lively. The new VAQ limited-slip differential meant I could really lean on the accurate steering and impressive grip levels from wider tires before gentle understeer curbed my momentum. Adaptive dampers on certain trims add greater compliance in comfort mode too. It’s still the trusty Front-wheel drive balance that makes the GTI so satisfying to chuck around bends. Gearbox Options to Suit Any Driver Stick-shift fans can rejoice as VW retained the standard 6-speed manual for ultimate involvement, with auto rev-matching helping smooth shifts. But most will opt for the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic that suits the GTI’s torque-rich character - snappy, smart shifts to better accelerate but still highly responsive using paddles. I’d welcome the manual’s added driver connection, but won’t mourn losing the DSG’s convenience in traffic.
How Rivals Compare
Having tested the latest Civic Type R and Hyundai i30 N Performance, the Mk8 GTI keeps pace with these FWD heavies while undercutting entry prices. The Honda and Hyundai build on front-drive with their less-sophisticated platforms by adding power or handling sharpness – turning up extremes where the GTI takes a more holistic approach. All three deliver huge grins, but the GTI remains that all-weather, all-condition dynamo.
Why it Matters
As electric swells, SUVs dominate and autonomous looms, few cars engage a driver’s senses like the 2022 GTI. It's an icon that helped define the hot hatch formula of blending real-world practicality with responsive handling, communicative feedback and usable performance. The Mk8 carries that torch, with a maturity that should woo enthusiasts for another generation. Few cars so consistently deliver driving joys with such an infectious spirit as the GTI for the money. 2020 Volkswagen Golf R Exterior, Interior, Release Date, Price
2020 Volkswagen Golf R Exterior, Interior, Release Date, Price – The most recent 2020 Volkswagen Golf R will strike the marketplace probably in the best time for the Company. As we all know, Volkswagen’s diesel-pollutants unfaithful scandal was a big scandal all around the world, but they will attempt to keep coming back and to fulfil all the buyers. We could assume the arrival of the recent model a while following year. The exact particular date is not released, but most probable, that is moving to be the previous quarter of the year. This model will come with a lot of enhancements and will also supply so many scientific improvements. The engine features will be better, and we can get improvement is efficiency. The interior can be exquisite when the exterior appears sporty and aggressive. If you want to figure out something regarding this model, stick to us and revel in the review.
2020 Volkswagen Golf R Exterior
The physical appearance of this model is going to be unparalleled, and as usual, we can expect a very aggressive and sporty exterior design. This model will be very similar to the past model, but of course, there will be some modifications. Initial of all, we now have to say that this model will come with some and two-door versions. As it pertains to some certain particulars, the 2020 Volkswagen Golf R will feature a little-adjusted entrance grille at the front area.
2020 Volkswagen Golf R Exterior
Also, right here we can easily observe recently Directed daytime jogging lamps. If we appearance this model from the profile side, we can see body-shaded “R” area skirts as well as black callipers with “R” emblems. At the aspects, the latest model will drive on 18-inches lightweight aluminium rims that might be equipped with the quality wheel for all periods. Just like the rims, the overall chassis makes use of a lot of lightweight aluminium components in the development. Additional, it means improved total performance and lowered energy usage.
2020 Volkswagen Golf R Interior
The interior design of the 2020 Volkswagen Golf R will get even more changes than the exterior design. Nevertheless, the design of the cabin will in all probability keep virtually the very same as well before, but we could expect upgrades in substantial-tech portion. We could anticipate the brand new 5.0-inches touchscreen screen provided with the CarPlay, Android Auto as effectively as with the recently MirrorLink smartphone incorporation techniques.
2020 Volkswagen Golf R Interior
The cabin of this model is also roomier than well before which means the travellers can get much more legroom and usually much better ease and comfort. The entrance car seats are going to be covered with the Nappa leather. Also, we can expect a three-spoke sports controls with the leather material upholstery. This model may also supply a blind-spot keep an eye on, auto parking solutions, lane departure forewarning, twin-sector environment handle, rearview auto-dimming vanity mirror, adaptive cruise management and many others as nicely.
2020 Volkswagen Golf R Engine
The new Golf R will have an enhanced version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine. This engine will likely be competent of delivering up to 292 hp at 5,400 rpm and 280 lb-toes of torque. It will probably be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and will be standard. However, we could anticipate non-obligatory transmission system and therefore is six-speed DSG double-clutch system automatic. Based on EPA, this model may have a gasoline economy amount of 23/30, city/freeway.
2020 Volkswagen Golf R Concept
2020 Volkswagen Golf R Release Date And Price
The starting up manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the forthcoming 2020 Volkswagen Golf R will probably be all around $36.500. The release date of this model will likely be perhaps in the very last 90 days of 2019.

Volkswagen T-Roc R (2020) im #Test | Ein Rowdy für alle Fälle
Tumblr media Tumblr media

BMW 4 Series or VW Arteon which is better?
https://www.newsunlimit.com/bmw-4-series-or-vw-arteon-which-is-better/
BMW 4 Series or VW Arteon which is better?
BMW 4 Series or VW Arteon which is better?: The saloons are suffering from the sales success of the SUVs, but they still have their audience and there are many loyal fans. They have better dynamic behavior compared to SUVs, lower consumption, and, in this case, high quality of materials and settings. But in this case at hand, which one do we recommend buying, the Volkswagen Arteon or the BMW 4 Series?
VIDEO: More details of the new Volkswagen Arteon in action (BMW 4 Series or VW Arteon which is better?)
dailymotion
Before going any further, let me clarify that this is one of our usual technical comparisons, not a dynamic test in which we analyze its dynamic behavior. What I am going to analyze here are sections such as the dimensions, the boot capacity, the range of engines, their equipment, and, of course, the prices. In the end, I will make a summary by way of a conclusion to recommend if it is better to buy the Arteon or the Series 4.
Read more: The 10 best cars of 2021 are hybrids to buy
Volkswagen action
Let me start with the Volkswagen Arteon. It measures 4.86 meters long, 1.87 meters wide, 1.42 m high, and has a wheelbase of 2.84 meters. Extraordinary dimensions make clear the versatility of the VW Group’s MQB modular platform on which it is based and which is the same as the Volkswagen Golf and the huge Skoda Kodiaq.
Those dimensions are worth the Volkswagen to offer a capacity of 563 liters in its trunk, which are expandable to 1,557 liters if the rear seatbacks are folded. Under the hood, and I am already talking about engines, the Arteon range begins with the well-known 150 hp 2.0 TDI, a block that is also offered with 200 hp; and in gasoline, its bets on the 2.0 TSI propeller with a single power scale: 190 hp.
BMW 4 Series
For its part, the BMW 4 Series measures 4.76 meters in length, that is, it is smaller and also has two fewer doors, although its sculptural bodywork is perfectly comparable to the Arteon. However, that is one of the great handicaps, that is, if you need quick and easy access to the rear row, go for the Volkswagen. On the other hand, if you are one of those who give priority to aesthetics, we are sure that the BMW, with its coupe body, will be your chosen one.

In terms of trunk volume, the 2020 BMW 4 Series loses with its 440 liters. And as for the engines, there are also alternatives in diesel and gasoline (there are no hybrid variants of any kind). The range of the BMW 4 Series consists of four options, three petrol, and one diesel. The first group consists of the 184 hp 420i, the 258 hp 430i, and the powerful 374 hp M440i). In diesel, it has 420 d with 190 CV and all the engines are associated with 8-speed automatic transmission. The M440i has a four-wheel drive, while the rest are rear-wheel drive, as is customary for BMW. The most interesting and sporty variant is undoubtedly the BMW M4 Competition 2021.
Read more: How many parts does a car have?
equipment
Regarding the endowment with which they come from the factory, as always happens, it varies a lot from one finish to another. The Arteon is available, at the moment, in two finishes: Elegance and R-Line. And the price range goes from 41 euros to 49,000 euros. And in this section, I must mention that the technological and multimedia equipment is a little more current in the French model. Of course, I can not ignore Arteon’s Emergency Assist 2.0 system, which is wonderful (you can see how it works in the video that you have just below). In terms of quality of materials and finishes, both have a high level.
Read more: The 10 best cars of 2021 are hybrids to buy
For its part, the BMW 4 Series starts from 48,400 euros for the access version and goes up to 113,200 euros for the M4 version. All new 4 Series come standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone climate control, cruise control, LED headlights, and a battery of driving aids. In addition, you can round off the equipment with various connectivity, technology, or comfort packages, while the most racing ones will turn their eyes to the M Sport pack that for 2,500 euros offers Alcantara upholstery, 18-inch wheels, M sports brake, M sports suspension, roof anthracite, variable sports steering, an M sports steering wheel.

Read more: How to save on road tax 2021
Conclusion
Both models offer a lot of quality and large doses of technology and versatility, although in this last section it is the Volkswagen that takes the cake with its two extra doors. However, in image, elegance, and sportiness, it is the BMW that hits the table. It has a version that is a myth, the M4, and that is lacking in the Arteon, much more conservative in its sporting aspirations. In engines, the Munich model also offers more horsepower and performance, while the Wolfburg model is more restrained, also in price, with a lower rate.

THE MOST EXCITING CARS OF 2020, AS REVIEWED BY DRIVING.CO.ULAST YEAR was one marked by boredom. Large swathes of it were spent indoors thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, forcing us to take up hobbies like doing jigsaw puzzles, reading books or baking banana bread.
That applied to car reviewers, too: press deliveries were (understandably) halted, launches were pushed back to next year and reveals were taken online.
However, there were periods before and between the various lockdowns during which reviewing resumed, and for short, sweet periods we remembered the thrill of driving new cars. Here are eight of the most exciting models Driving.co.uk tested in 2020.
1. New Land Rover Defender
Land Rover Defender
The Land Rover Defender, needless to say, is one of the most recognisable automotive icons of all time. The old silhouette, famously first conceived as a sketch in the sand, remained relatively unchanged for the better part of a century, meaning that the new one, which doesn’t share a single component with its rugged predecessor, was seen as progress by some and sacrilege by others. Either way, it arrived to nearly impossibly high expectations.
However, the new model, kitted out with modern accoutrements like independent air suspension and 3D cameras, is “leagues better in every way” than its predecessor, reckoned Driving.co.uk editor Will Dron. High praise indeed.
Read our review of the Land Rover Defender here.
2. Volkswagen ID.3
Volkswagen ID.3
Volkswagen can split its eighty-something-year history into three distinct sections, each represented by one of its machines. First was the, erm, problematic conception of the brand with the VW Beetle, a “people’s car” designed by Ferdinand Porsche on the instructions of Adolf Hitler. Second was a period marked by the Golf, the quintessential hatchback and the yardstick against which all family cars are judged.
The third, says VW, began in 2020 with the launch of the ID.3, its electric hatchback. And this car isn’t just a big moment in VW’s canon — it’s one of the biggest PR projects the company has ever undertaken, launching a range of vehicles that aims to mend the still lingering spectre that is the dieselgate scandal. That makes it incredibly important, but is it a good car? Yes, we reckon it is.
Read our review of the Volkswagen ID.3 here.
3. McLaren 765LT
McLaren 765LT
The 765LT sits atop McLaren’s “Super Series”, a role previously held by the 720S — a car described by absolutely zero people as “lacklustre”. However the famously forensic McLaren decided that there were a few milligrams here and there that could be trimmed from the 720S and a few more horsepower to be squeezed out of its 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8. The result is a car that weighs 80kg less and packs 45 more horsepower (Super Series cars are named for their number of horses), with engineering and aero changes to make it even faster round a track.
The result is a car that, in Will Dron’s opinion, “has amphetamines licked”. “Probably”.
Read our review of the McLaren 765LT here.
4. Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet
Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet
Speaking of fast cars, say hello to the newest version of the Porsche 911 Turbo S. It can reach 60mph in exactly the same time as the aforementioned McLaren 765LT, thanks to its twin-turbo, six-cylinder flat six, its hammer-like torque delivery and the grip offered by its non-optional four wheel drive. It can, if you’re in good and legal conditions, top out at 205mph, and is capable of behaving “like a toddler full of sugar”.
But what impressed Alex Goy the most was the fact that it is capable of all that while offering daily-driver levels of practicality. There’s a good amount of space under the bonnet and if you’re gentle with the accelerator, it can be perfectly polite around town. A true everyday supercar.
Read our review of the Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet here.
5. Honda Civic Type R
Honda Civic Type R
When it came to the midlife update of the Civic Type R, Honda’s engineers had the luxury of not having to make too many big overhauls. After the blip that was the FK2 model (the one that came out in 2015), the current model — the FK8, to those in the know — has been seen as Honda’s return to the top of the hot hatch segment. However, the brand has decided to go one step further. Because, why not?
That means that the things that made the Civic Type R great before — the 2.0-litre turbo engine, the precision of the steering, the general sense of fun — are still great, if not incrementally more so, says Kieran Ahuja, while its shortcomings have been addressed. Add in a new — and completely addictive — short throw gear change, and we’re onto a winner.
Read our review of the Honda Civic Type R here.
6. Polestar 2
Polestar 2
Building a car that takes on the Tesla Model 3 is no easy feat. The American brand is, after all, at the forefront of electric vehicle making and the most valuable car company in the world — with the most loyal following. Its entry-level model was even briefly the best-selling car in the UK.
However, take on Tesla is what Polestar set out to do with the Polestar 2. According to Will Dron, it has largely achieved that, thanks to its Greta Thunberg-friendly interior, “immense” infotainment system and the depth of its driving character.
Read our review of the Polestar 2 here.
7. Volvo XC40 Recharge P8
Volvo XC40 Recharge P8
“Fast” might not be the first adjective you reach for when you look at the Volvo XC40 Recharge P8. It looks like a safe, practical, comfortable and sensible family crossover. And Volvo’s first pure-electric production vehicle is all of those things: it’s got a sizeable 452 litres of boot capacity; it can travel 280 miles on a single charge; it recharges rapidly; it’s got world-beating crash safety and driver assists; and it has the same great infotainment system as the aforementioned Polestar 2, with a similarly serene, minimalistic interior.
However, it’s also fast. Very fast. Thanks to four-wheel drive from two powerful electric motors delivering 487 lb ft of torque, it can go from 0-60mph in under five seconds. It’s a car that has the capability to stick your head to the headrest, says Will Dron, but it doesn’t beg you to.
Read our review of the Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 here.
8. Rolls-Royce Ghost
Rolls Royce Ghost
The Rolls-Royce Ghost has adopted a new ethos in its latest iteration, one that its creator has labelled “post-opulent”. The car maker’s well-to-do clientele are reportedly no longer interested in the glitz and glamour that it previously embodied, and are now after a more sophisticated, minimalistic way of showing off their incredible wealth.
This posed something of a quandary to the designers and engineers over in Goodwood — their task was to make a car that was not as immediately dazzling as its predecessor but still justifies a price tag of at least £208,000; to make the Ghost as exciting as the outgoing model without making it gaudy. Engineers also had to improve on a car that has been praised as the best to drive among Rolls’ entire line-up. Will Dron was among the first in the world to find out how successful they were

The DROPLET is a compact teardrop trailer decked out with a light-filled, insulated shell that fits a queen size bed for a good night’s sleep. The large windows are perfect for stargazing or if you’re looking for privacy, the shades come down for added coziness. A sheltered kitchen is on the back of the trailer making it easy to fix meals while still enjoying everyone’s company outside. The DROPLET is lightweight enough to be towed by a MINI Cooper or Volkswagen Golf, so there’s no need to upgrade to a truck or SUV to haul it to your next destination.

Airstream Basecamp 20
New for 2021, the Airstream Basecamp 20 trailer is an upgrade from the top-selling Basecamp 16 with additional room and added features for those seeking to venture onto more rugged terrain. The new model separates the sleeping and eating spaces allowing the rear bed to remain setup during the day while still having room to dine in the front. The dinette easily converts to an extra sleeping space for kids or guests. There’s also the option to get the Basecamp 20X that’s off-road ready with 12 inches of ground clearance and front stone guard protection.

EarthRoamer
The all-mighty EarthRoamer vehicles are not like any other – they’re the true baller of a modern RV. In fact, they’re considered XVs – Xpedition Vehicles. They’re hand built in Colorado with the highest quality materials and a real attention to detail. They’re durable, all-in-one packages with everything built right in, including the Ford truck that drives it. While the EarthRoamer is made to handle tough, off-road adventures, they’re like luxury apartments on wheels that will probably make you never venture into a tent ever again.

Mehrzeller
The Mehrzeller, which we fell in love with back in 2010, is probably unlike anything you’ve passed on the road with its faceted exterior that will probably make you wonder what in the world is happening inside it. In all actuality, it’s a customizable, multicellular caravan that’s a step up from the Airstream or your typical campers. The same faceted surfaces show up on the mostly white interior making this a great option for people who don’t want to leave their modern aesthetic back at home. Unfortunately, we think this is still a concept, but we hope it happens soon!
Mehrzeller
Happier Camper
Happier Camper adds a touch of nostalgia with their travel trailers that have a distinctly classic, retro-modern feel. If you’re looking for affordable adventures, these ultra-light campers might be your thing. Each one features their Adaptiv

modular interior so you can customize it when you’re out on the road for camping, hauling, or as guest quarters, in a matter of minutes. They also have a ton of features you can add-on, like shower fittings, digital heaters, iPad/tablet docking station, solar panels, and a lightweight air conditioner. Despite its compact size, the modern RV sleeps five!
Happier Camper
Safari Condo
Canadian-based Safari Condo’s teardrop camper is another lightweight alternative to the larger variety. While it’s a compact teardrop design, their Alto R models feature electric, retractable roofs giving more interior space when parked. The aerodynamic exterior will help keep gas costs low without compromising the extra living space larger, heavier campers offer. With the option to sleep 3-4 people, along with the typical comforts most trailers offer (toilet, dinette area, kitchenette), the interior boasts a clean, modern aesthetic.

Airstream® Travel Trailer
Definitely one of the most recognizable brands out there, the Airstream, with its sleek silver exterior, is the longest-tenured recreational vehicle manufacturer in North America. The iconic brand partnered with another well-known American company, Pendleton Woolen Mills, for a limited edition Airstream in 2016. With just 100 made, the Limited Edition Pendleton® National Park Foundation

Cars Renault will launch in South Africa in 2020
Renault South Africa will be launching several new models later this year despite severe delays in production due to the coronavirus pandemic. The refreshed line-up of new cars for the local market includes an ultra-sporty Megane RS model as well as enhanced crossovers and SUVs.
Over the past five years, Renault South Africa has increased its share of the local new car market thanks to the introduction of the popular Kwid. Its Sandero range has also helped the French brand grow at the entry-level end of the market. Speaking at the launch of the refreshed Kwid compact car in Johannesburg late last year, Renault South Africa's marketing and communications vice president Jesus Boveda confirmed that the company was fifth-largest in SA in terms of new vehicle sales, with aspirations to climb a few rungs higher on the ladder.
These are the cars the brand will bring to SA to help its ascent...
Looking to pick fights with the recently facelifted Honda Civic Type R (we're awaiting confirmation that it's still coming in 2020) and the recently introduced Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, the new Renault Megane Trophy will add some excitement to the performance hatch market.
Renault confirmed earlier this week that the 221kW hot hatch will feature breakthrough exhaust system technologies, bi-material brakes, a Torsen limited-slip differential and, most importantly, a firmer chassis for more precise control and handling.
The previous generation Megane RS Trophy was simply astounding to drive, with an Akrapovic exhaust at the back and a trick intake system upfront giving it a roar like no other factory-tuned hot hatch at that time.
The new Megane RS Trophy will also come with an F1-inspired splitter under its front bumper, a wide rear diffuser, bespoke hatch spoiler and custom central exhaust tips. 19-inch Jerez wheels with high-performance Bridgestone tyres also come standard.
Three Family-focused options confirmed.
Renault will be launching updated versions of its Koleos mid-size SUV and its Duster compact SUV during the third quarter of 2020. While mechanical treatment will be kept minimal, you can expect a smart styling update as well as tweaks to the interior. Exact specifications and the grade walk will be made available closer to the time of launch.
For those consumers who want to keep the budget tight, but without compromising on style, comfort and safety, Renault SA will also bring an updated Sandero Stepway to market later this year. Bearing the TechRoad nomenclature we first saw on the Duster, the new Sandero Stepway will serve to keep compact hatchback buyers satisfied until the all-new fifth-generation Clio arrives.
The best new models are still to come
While news that the updated Megane RS, Koleos, Duster and Sandero Stepway coming to SA this year remains exciting for the company and consumers, considering the state of the world, the fifth-generation Clio and the all-new Captur might not make it to SA this year, but they are still on the horizon...
Delays in production as well as pent up demand for these new vehicles in other parts of the world hint at a 2021 introduction for us, however if things change in the coming months, Renault SA will still look to bring the new compact hatch and the compact SUV to Group 1 Renault this year.
"These are models that have a good track record and are quite revered in some instances. The above-mentioned models are refreshing the range, staying fresh, staying relevant and staying appealing to meet and exceed customers needs and expectations," the company's media relations manager, Viviene Ward, says.
She adds that Renault SA will push to offer even better value for customers in the coming months: "Ongoing, extensive work goes into monitoring the competitive environment with the main aim to position ourselves to stand out in terms of value for money. One example of being sensitive to these challenging times is the offer we are running on the Kwid range that includes 1-year's worth of comprehensive car insurance, a 2-year Service Plan, and a 5-year mechanical warranty from only R1999pm.
"Another is the Sandero range that now offers customers a payment break of up to six months and it still comes with a 2-year Service Plan and 5-year mechanical warranty.”

The Audi R8: Origins, Generations, Specifications
Tumblr media
All things Audi R8 on Automobile.
Audi R8 Essential History Despite a rich motorsports history with overwhelming success in both rallying and endurance racing, Audi's always remained at arm's length when it came to producing a true sports car. The once-popular Audi TT has most of the right ingredients, but the front-wheel-drive underpinnings pulled primarily from the VW Golf kept it well below the Porsche Boxster, Nissan Z cars, and BMW's assorted roadsters and two-seat coupes.
Since the early 1980s, Audi remained content developing high-performance versions of its premium coupes and sedans, focusing on promoting all-wheel drive technology and turbocharged engines, even if the resulting speed-specials were softer and more road-oriented than the adrenalin-charging weapons from Mercedes-Benz' AMG or BMW's M division.
It was only during the early-2000s when the reality of an Audi supercar began to coalesce, born from Audi's ongoing Le Mans domination and the then-recent acquisition of Lamborghini by the Volkswagen Auto Group. To amortize the cost of development of the nascent Lamborghini Gallardo and to bring Audi a little closer in-line with Mercedes and BMW, the plan for the mid-engine Audi R8—the brand's first supercar—took shape with the Le Mans Quattro concept in 2003.
Audi Le Mans Quattro Concept Visually, the Audi Le Mans Quattro concept was nearly identical to the production R8 that arrived in 2007, though the wild twin-turbo V-10 engine was tossed for a more production-friendly iteration of Audi's naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V-8. Power was reasonable for a mid-engine sports car of the era, with 414 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque sent to all-four wheels through either Audi's R-Tronic six-speed automated manual or a gated six-speed manual transmission. Zero-to-60-mph times for these early R8s were around the low four-second mark, with a top speed around 188 mph.
The Audi R8 Goes V-10 For the 2009 model year, the R8's Lamborghini roots shone in full-force, when the updated 5.2-liter V-10 from the Lamborghini LP560-4 was shoehorned into the R8. Fun fact—that Lamborghini V-10 is actually an Audi V-10 pulled from the S6 and S8. So, the R8 V10 actually uses an Audi V-10 pulled from a Lamborghini, but we digress. The V-10 engine increased the R8's output to 518 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, dropping the zero-to-60 mph sprint to 3.9 seconds, and raising top speed to 196 mph.
The Audi R8 Spyder Drop-top Spyder variants launched for both the V-8 and the V-10 models, with the V-8 adding an extra 14 horsepower over the V-8 coupe, growing the total to 428 horsepower, though torque remained unchanged at 317 lb-ft. The limited edition R8 GT arrived in 2011, cutting 220 pounds from the curb weight of the regular R8 V10, while increasing the V-10's output to 552 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. As you'd expect, the R8 GT also brought with it a range of suspension, braking, and aerodynamic upgrades over the regular car to compensate for the additional power and to enlarge the overall performance envelope. Production of the GT was limited to 333 units worldwide, with an additional 333 unit run of the corresponding R8 GT Spyder.
The first-generation R8 received a mid-cycle refresh for 2012 in the rest of the world, arriving in the U.S. in 2013 as a 2014 model year. The refresh brought mostly aesthetic updates, though a few significant mechanical upgrades were also brought to the R8, most significantly a new seven-speed dual-clutch replacing the balky R-Tronic automated manual transmission. Standard magnetic damping was also added for the R8 V10, an optional upgrade for the V-8 models.
The R8 V10 Plus arrived on our shores in 2014, adding a new range-topping trim with extra power and performance in the same vein as the older R8 GT. The same 5.2-liter V-10 as found in the standard R8 V10 was upgraded to 542 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque in the R8 V10 Plus, which also got a re-tuned suspension, updated interior, and massaged aesthetics.
Second-Generation Audi R8 After these short-lived upgrades, the first-gen R8 was replaced by an all-new model in 2015 for the 2016 model year. In keeping with the Lamborghini bones of the prior generation, the second-gen R8 shares much of its structural DNA with the Lamborghini Huracan. This includes the familiar 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V-10—the only engine offered at the moment—initially available with either 533 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque in the base R8 coupe or 602 horsepower and 413 lb-ft in the R8 V10 Plus coupe. With the exception of the limited-edition R8 RWS (Rear Wheel Series), power is transferred to all-four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
For 2019, the second-gen R8 was updated with extra power and an aesthetic refresh. Power for the base coupe jumped to 562 horsepower and 413 lb-ft, while the newly renamed R8 Coupe Performance Quattro packs 602 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Performance for all iterations of the second-gen R8 is impressive; factory-quoted zero-to-60 mph times range between 3.2 seconds and 3.5 seconds, though these times have proven to be conservative in independent tests.
Audi R8 Highlights Time will likely be kind to the Audi R8. The first generation of the supercar consistently ranks at the top of many enthusiast's lists of best designs of the 2000s, and it's only going to get better with time. Although older R8s may carry a bit of a stigma as simply a used supercar, give it time—or pick one up now, while they are at the bottom of their depreciation curve.
Once the first R8s are out of the too-new-to-be-classic but too-old-to-be-cool dead zone, the R8 will be one of the better ways to get into something genuinely exotic for not much more than the price of entry to a loaded mid-size crossover SUV. Early V-8s are particularly inexpensive to purchase, and compared to a Ferrari or Lamborghini of similar vintage, significantly less expensive to keep on the road. As far as upkeep price goes, think more than a BMW or Audi sedan, and less than an Aston Martin—maintenance on a regular Porsche 911 is likely a good comparison.
By design, the R8 of any generation is a more professional, lower-key supercar—if that's even a thing. The current R8 is priced closer to the Porsche 911 Turbo, current Acura NSX, and Aston Martin Vantage than to Lamborghini's Huracán or McLaren's 720s, but in our experience, the R8 doesn't fall far short of those more exotic models in performance or theater. In fact, we'd likely take a new R8 over any of the listed alternatives on the strength of its sound and the vicious launch control. We've also heard whispers that a first-gen Audi R8 V10 with the gated manual transmission is one of the best "exotic" experiences that can be had for less than $100,000, so there's that.
Audi R8 Buying Tips Audi R8s of any generation or spec are fairly robust and shouldn't provide too many undue surprises mechanically. A thick sheaf of maintenance records is always a welcome inclusion with any potential purchase, as is a pre-purchase inspection at a local specialist or dealer. Parts availability for the R8 is high, considering even the oldest R8s still have factory support from Audi—for now. As stated above, expect regular maintenance bills similar to what you'd expect of a Porsche 911.
If you are in the market for a first-gen R8, we highly suggest you seek only those with either the six-speed manual transmission or the later dual-clutch examples. Avoid the R-Tronic at all costs; it's clunky, slow, relatively fragile, and for some enthusiasts, ruins the overall experience. Engine type matters, too, as V-8s will obviously be more affordable than the V-10s, but there is a significant difference in both speed and upkeep between the two engines—as well as a difference in prestige, which can enhance (or detract from) collectibility.
Audi R8 Auctions Despite undeniable desirability, the Audi R8 isn't collectible enough to cross the stage at major auction houses—yet. Bring a Trailer never disappoints, as the healthy record of sold R8s is enough to give an idea of what you might pay for a first generation. For second-generation R8s—the current model—there are enough on Audi lots that you might be better off getting one straight from the source.
This 2009 Audi R8 4.2 w/ six-speed manual and only 8,000 miles sold for $67,000
A 2010 Audi R8 V10 w/ six-speed manual sold for $72,000
This second-gen 2018 Audi R8 RWS claimed $118,000
A late-model first-gen 2015 Audi R8 4.2 with six-speed manual was bought for $80,000
Audi R8 Quick Facts   First year of production: 2007 Last year of production: Ongoing Base Price: $171,150 (2020) Audi's first supercar Lamborghini bones for (relatively) cheap Time will be very, very kind to the R8 family We'll take ours with the V-10 and the gated manual, please Audi R8 Articles On Automobile We drove the refreshed first-generation Audi R8 in 2012.
Here's our review of the second-generation Audi R8 V10 Plus.

And just for fun, here's a test of the race-ready Audi R8 LMS.
Audi R8 FAQ You have questions about the Audi R8. Automobile has answers. Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked Audi R8 queries:
Is The Audi R8 A Supercar? Absolutely. With any engine or transmission and from either generation, the Audi R8 is quick, fast, and visually stunning enough to be considered a supercar.
How Fast Does An Audi R8 Go? The early first-gen Audi R8 4.2s topped out at 188 mph, while the latest and greatest Audi R8 V10 Performance Quattro smacks a mighty 206 mph.
How Much Is The New Audi R8? The base 2020 Audi R8 will run you $171,150.
What Year Is The Best Audi R8? Hmm, great question. We reckon it depends on what you want from the car. For an engaging drive, we'd pick the cleanest first-gen V-10 with the gated manual we could find. However, the current R8 is stunningly quick and aurally spectacular as any car we've driven, so perhaps one of the few R8 RWS would find its way into our dream garage. ผลบอล7mคะแนน

Canada's getting VW's Mk. 8 Golf and ID.4 — even if the U.S. might not Canada is getting the new base model Volkswagen Mk. 8 Golf after all, as well as VWs new ID.4 electric car but not for a while.During the new generation’s debut last month, it seemed uncertain whether dealerships in the U.S. and Canada would see any trims of the Golf besides the high-performance GTI and R versions. Now, VW Canada has confirmed other, lower-spec trims of the Mk. 8 Golf will come to our shores, along with the high performance GTI and Golf R, though whether they hit the U.S., too, is still up in the air. The Mk. 8 Golf as well as the GTI and Golf R variants will start to arrive some time in 2021 as 2022 models, Thomas Tetzlaff, Volkswagen Canadas public relations manager, recently told The Car Guide. That means well see a small gap between the sale of the last Mk. 7 and the first Mk. 8 for some Golf variants, such as the Golf R, SportWagen and Alltrack, none of which will return for the 2020 model year.In other news, the new fully-electric ID.4 will replace the eGolf as the brands small-EV option, and will lead the way in introducing the ID lineup to Canadian showrooms. The ID.4 is a four-door crossover, with a low roofline and a small footprint. The first ID model in Canada will be the production version of the I.D. Crozz concept. This one is planned for early 2021, said Tetzlaff.Next year, Europeans will get the even-smaller ID.3, which was unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show. Whether that vehicle will make it to Canada remains to be
