Episode 21 brings me back to a question I’ve had for a while: where do the case numbers in the episode descriptions come from?

I don’t think it’s the staff anymore. I think it’s Fr3-d1.

Consider the case in Episode 21: Alice didn’t categorize it, she deleted the case. Yet the episode has been coded.

Episode 20 has a number, but we see in Episode 21 that none of the staff are acting as though Gwen is in active danger.

Both Episode 20 and 21 have case numbers that show they were coded on the same day, the day of Gwen’s encounter with Ink5oul.

Episode 3 has Alice suggest a coding for the case that is slightly different from what’s in the episode description. It could have been Sam entering it differently, or it could be a correction.

Episode 1 mentions misfiles; the very existence of misfiles means that someone or something is comparing what the staff enter to another source.

I think the computer is categorizing them.

Possible reasons for the human coding:

Humans are basically doing AI training (similar to CAPTCHA) and/or

To force them to engage with it for Reasons (likely Spooky and/or Evil reasons)

my personal-level annoyance with the project moon implosion (this is underneath the feminism/incel higher-level offenses) is that i have been getting a lot of catharsis out of a public-library of ruina AU. it is one of the easiest ways to get across the current reality of urban public libraries that i've devised. picture library of ruina with a customer service focus and you're like 80% there. for the remaining 20%, consider that the public library is (even in small-c cities) one of the last public spaces that exists, part of the dwindling social safety net, and has a mandate to do its utmost to help people find information. forget that candy-ass invite-only closed-stacks bullshit. public LOR Angela doesn't get that pacing and privacy and contextualization. p-LOR Angela has three kids asking for an anatomy textbook at the front desk (they're arguing with their dealer whether this is a mutated gallbladder or a spleen, v important for pricing), a desperate family trying to fill out nest application forms to the right (ironic how the captcha seems to only be completable by AI, how is anyone supposed to get through??), enkephalin addicts in the washroom (and now netzach is explaining to them that it's 80% hand sanitizer and their dealer ripped them off), and someone's starting a mariachi contest in the reading room. furthermore, until roland comes around, and honestly even after that, she doesn't even know why. welcome to the library.

Time to loot the loot!

First up some books. The first we all saw, COLONEL SASSACRE'S DAUNTING TEXT OF MAGICAL FRIVOLITY AND PRACTICAL JAPERY, but way more worn and potentialy deadlier. Next is the FATHERLY GENT'S SHAVING ALMANAC, currently useless to John with his lack of need but very important to Dad if he locked it in the safe. But I want to bring attention to the newspaper clippings.

Very worn with the only visible date being Monday April 13, 199X. Apparently some years back meteors also rained down shortly after 4am. The ones in the paper were not the only occurrence and, suspiciously, were downplayed as 'not foreboding' or 'not really a big deal' despite creating casualties. A Crocker facility and a residential space have suffered damage. Not sure why Dad would have kept this but with the repeating 4/13 there has to be some importance. Probably a cake mix shortage knowing his love of baking.

A couple of things happen that made me lose it laughing so hard but it should be noted one of my many questions has been answered. A blank card has only a string of 0's while a card containing a card is a sting of 1's. Each code generated is probably some sort of fusion of binary and hex though Im not even gonna try to think of what the formula is.

Ok so, in normal John fashion he captchas the card but only having three means...

Instead of changing his modus and adding the card to the deck, John punches the 2xCaptchacard bringing him to a grand total two usable cards.

At this point I had to stop reading from how hard I was laughing. Even putting this together is making me giggle in delight.

Luckily the tome is too heavy to get much air and instead crushes the imp unware of its fate.

Under the cut is a bunch of stuff regarding Johns leveling.

Now the level up panel had me questioning some things. Last time we saw John level up he was only at PLUCKY TOT but now we are at PESKY URCHIN. Looking back he sucessfully killed two imps during the pogo ride, presumably the EXP for the other 3 levels

Looking at the panel where Rose is building she now has 80 grist she can work with when last it was only 50. John also gained a bunch of boondollars and now has MAN GRIT. So what info can we glean from all this.

My guess is one imp slaying gained two levels while the other gained one. The next level will either again be one imp or require two imps for enough EXP. Level ups may take climbing more rungs before giving rewards, my guess is it happened at ANKLEBITER.

Rewards are also not equal among levels. The new CACHE gain is at 40 and seeing as the other two were 10 and 20 respectively means ANKLEBITER increased the cache by 30. But GEL is only at 15. In this way GEL is harder to grind for, with longer spans between gains. We cant know for sure though without seeing the whole cache list. BOONDOLLARS dont seem to have a pattern. John gained a whopping 415 which is not a pretty number to split between three levels. This last kill saw a gain of 200, so who knows what the criteria is for this. Again MAN GRIT is new so its up in the air how this one will function. Overall it seems to me right now rewards are at every second level at minimum.

so i don’t think i would call this the worst job i’ve ever had, but for a period of time i worked the phone lines scheduling people for covid vaccines, specifically for the state of florida (from this you can infer the general caliber of jobs i’ve had in my life), and one thing that haunts me about this experience aside from the company i did this for being generally a shit show is the fact that there were captchas built into the system. so you can imagine me, 21 year old university student on a saturday evening, my vision blurred because it’s hour 7 of my 10 hour shift, talking to average florida man, who is already belligerent because the deeply broken system has left him 20 messages that day, and i’m trying desperately to stall while i click on every square with a motorcycle in it so i can enter some information and then have to do it all over again a few screens later. like why the fuck did they set it up like that. did they think that someone would try to run a bot to schedule covid vaccines in florida or something
