if I would put it, let’s say, on Webtoon (which I can’t) it kind of would be the same thing. A list if chapters, when you click on one it opens the chapter with the 10-20 panels and then you click the “next” to go to the next one.

i don’t think putting all chapters from one part would be nice since it would be a super duper long list of panels (and the page would take a lot to load with so many medias) and one Part of the comic contains multiple arcs.

no, his human form doesn’t have fangs, because his human form is just a kind of glamour/shapeshift. In the AU the monkey form became his normal form (since it always has been his original form to begin with)

For Mac being exposed was the last of his issues considering that what he was seeing was Wukong at his lowest and most naked. Now excuse me while I cry.

After getting beat up a bit she decides to drink the elixir so the robber couldn’t get it. But she instead went to the moon so she could be closer to her lover. Her husband dies because he’s still mortal, and Chang’E is left be herself. I have silly little headcanon the day MK and the others went to the moon was her and her husband’s anniversary 🙃 Bye <3

His favorite days are when classes of children come in for field trips. Wukong often paints the backdrops, scenery, and other items for plays. They both enjoy their hobbies.

How To Get Roughly 50 Notes On An Original Writing Post And Possibly Net A Single Reader

I had someone ask today how I get people to click through and read my writing, and I'm realizing that I've never actually made a post all in one place of everything I do to get a new piece of short fiction off the ground... so here you go! How to get (some) eyes on your work, even if it is not published anywhere of interest and you don't have a marketing team behind you.

The #1 thing is presentation. You want to get people's attention, and once you have it, convince them to keep paying attention. Fortunately, people tend to be both reasonable and predictable, which means all you have to do is follow The Formula.

Here's the formula from the above post broken down:

[giant horizontal title card, preferably animated to catch the eye] OR [a few tasteful parallels, if you're good at parallel posts]

TITLE (linked to where you can read the piece) / wordcount

a quote that is representative of the tone, themes, prose style, and/or the "promise of the premise"

A longer pitch, featuring the overall subject of the piece (transsexual reality TV drama), any comp titles (Detransition, Baby), the main draw (in this case, watching trans people be awful to clueless cis people), major themes (performance), and any other promises you'd like to make (food romance and tigers). You can see that the quote I chose delivers on the promise of trans people intellectually outperforming cis people-- if I were a reader, I would be more likely to trust that the rest of the pitch was accurate based on that assurance.

If you have any positive reviews on your piece, say so. If it has won any awards or contests, say so. If your work has made people cry, Doja Cat - Say So. Always. Generally speaking, more personal and more detailed is better, but keep it to one or two people-- e.g. "when I gave this to my S/O to read he shot milk out of his nose so far I had to go clean under the couch" or "my favorite review of this piece is the reader who said they read it chapter-by-chapter under their covers because they wanted it all to themself." This should be one sentence.

Depending on where the story is published, what you usually promote, etc., it may be worthwhile saying the story is free. Use your judgment on whether the reader can tell.

I also like putting my links at the bottom so someone seeing this on a friend's dash can easily track me around the 'Net. They make me look more professional (I now include a link to my website) and they visually balance the post, in my opinion. This post also happened to have some additional links for bonus content.

This is not as high stakes as it seems. I'm not 100% happy with the pitch here, and I'm not 100% happy with the graphics I've used in other cases. These are some bones that help to sell the piece even when the details aren't as sharp.

REBLOGGING

When is the last time you read something the first time you saw it on your dash? I schedule reblogs of all important posts at least twice over the next 2-3 days, often three times so I can get the morning/afternoon/evening reblog. If your followers tend to be more active at certain times, go ahead and use those. In the past I've intentionally scheduled posts for times I knew more popular mutuals were active, and it has paid off!

I also schedule a reblog for a week and a month and sometimes even a full calendar year out, because I know there is going to be that person who tags the piece '#to read' and instantly forgets about it, only to get excited when they see it weeks later. I am very often that reader. The goal is to catch people when they're ready to read immediately, and this is a game of chance.

Every so often, I go through my entire #writing or #important writing updates or even just #popular tag(s) and queue two dozen posts before shuffling my queue to redistribute matters. This keeps my older work circulating, ensuring new readers get a chance to see older pieces and giving those older pieces another shot at dashboard space. (More on #popular later.) This sounds like a lot, which is why you have to space everything pretty far apart. Fortunately, this is the world's best site for cool things to reblog. I guarantee you that you can find something new you love to post in the meanwhile.

COPING WITH FAME

The post above is what I, a published author, consider "doing well" for a post about my writing on Tumblr. As of October 10th, 2024, over two years after its initial posting and over five years into my posting doggedly about my original fiction, it has 77 notes. More than half (43) are likes. Around half of the reblogs are me promoting my own work or the same very sweet person dutifully reblogging me every time I do so. Glancing through the reblogs now, I know of four people whom I can confirm have read it. Presumably, there are more who are completely silent and have never interacted with the post whatsoever. Genuinely: wahoo!! I am so grateful and happy for the attention and reception of my work.

This is the number one thing I suggest: focus on what you have, and not what you lack. Imagine your post from the perspective of an outsider: even one reblog means you convinced that one person to spread your art! How cool is that! This is also good advice because moping is simply not helpful; it will not get you more reads. (And no, neither will guilting others. Kill that vent post in your head!)

GETTING FOLLOWERS

I don't have that many followers. Of the followers I do have, people are very unpredictably active. When I hear about other people's follower counts I am consistently surprised, because people with half of mine will have fans and haters the likes of which I could not possibly dream of. I follow 500-follower folk who post "I ate a strawberry today" and get 6 asks ranging from "Wow I respect you so much for eating that strawberry" to "I'm going to come to your address at [REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED] and shove bananas down your throat for hating on my favorite fruit."

I point this out to establish three important things. 1) Be grateful for what you have (in my case, 0 anonymous hate asks about fruitpinions), 2) followers have far less impact on interaction than one might think, and 3) followers don't engage with the things you might like them to.

Think about yourself. Are you more likely to reblog a photo of a cat in a pumpkin (alright, here) or something advertising fifteen minutes' worth of writing, which could be, for all you know, bad? Or, for that matter, by a person you should not like to support? Reblogs on generically interesting things are 'safer' (unfortunately) than reblogs on art, and it makes perfect sense that people are skittish around the latter. People don't often reblog things they haven't read, and nobody can reblog every artpost on their dash. Having someone else put it there, however, is incredibly powerful—someone's vetted this post as Worth a Reblog, after all. Having more followers allows for much more of this.

(Followers don't guarantee any one sort of interaction, but having more of them is rarely bad. Rarely.)

Across my most popular posts, one theme becomes very obvious: people like things that apply to them or their blog. I try to post writing advice/opinions/memes every so often, because I know I have a loyal base of writerfolk who like to see that from me, and it's "easier" to reblog than my writing. This is simply the nature of the universe. I used to pretty frequently go into the #writeblr tag and check out what was recently popular so I could figure out how to serve the same base, and from time to time it worked.

You're welcome to examine the list of #writing posts that made it to 100 notes, because each tends to have a notable reason behind its success: a reblog with an exceptionally good review, a contest win, a wordcount that lends itself to pasting the whole thing in one go.

(Posts about my book's release are a notable exception, in part due to Blaze and in part due to my absolutely relentless flogging of their reblog buttons during the ~year of promotion. Also in large part to a dedicated circle of friends who passed the post around nonstop! Thank you so much!!)

A lot of people will tell you to attempt covert reciprocal promotion. You know—reblog a lot of stuff, in the hopes that people will reblog yours. If I could change one thing on Tumblr, it would be this: the culture that quietly encourages disingenously interacting with other people with a secret True Goal in mind. (On the autism website.)

Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, do not do this. If you comment on other people's work, do it because you're happy to do so. When I released Paper Tigress, I went through everybody else who responded to the same prompt and read their work, because I had the day off and I was curious. This has led to Paper Tigress having more comments on Reedsy than one of my contest winners, and even outranking the shortlisted story in the same prompt category. However, this would have been a waste of my time if I did not genuinely enjoy reading the other stories. I read 80+ stories, taking several hours, and gained 30 comments from the venture (half my comments are my responses).

Crucially, I do not promote other writers' work on Tumblr in the hopes of them reading or boosting mine. This is the #1 tip I see thrown around that I viscerally disagree with. While, again, I am grateful for engagement with my work regardless of the context, I do not want people suffering through my work in the hopes that I will promote them. I work a full-time job, and my reading calendar is perpetually overbooked, including with work by my absolute best of friends. Even if it wasn't, I think it would be quite insulting if I were posting works in the hopes that someone would choke it down like medicine. I post what I think is good so that people can read and enjoy it. If you are not enjoying it, I do not want you to feel as though you have to read it. My aim is to give to others what my favorite authors have given me, which is most certainly not A Bad Time Spent Being Dishonest In The Hopes Of Getting Something Back. You have better things to do with your time. Please be honest.

CONCLUSION

Realistically, the readers I have, I gained through being a published author for five years promoting my behind off on Tumblr, the least forgiving social media for promotion. People like it when you have a book they can buy, especially if it has Goodreads reviews that make it look like you have been vetted for them. Many people who follow me have read only Something's Not Right and nothing else. (Many people who follow me have read everything but Something's Not Right.) I have posted dozens of pieces on Tumblr and Wattpad (and AO3). I gained a small number of readers writing and posting fanfiction for the Locked Tomb Tri(?)logy, even though I marketed it absolutely terribly.

Just keep writing. Keep writing, keep posting, and keep making sure everyone who follows you knows you write. And keep writing because you want to. There's no better advice than that.

EMERGENCY COMMISSIONS.

okay so I realized that I have 4 days of protein in my house for 2 people ( my husband and I ), and my cat has only 7 days of food left.

I overestimated some things last pay because my father in law got us some groceries the week after we had already gotten some and I thought we had more groceries then we did, and we didn’t. Bills were higher this month, and I thought I was being more responsible by shelling out more money into my bills ( I had an emergency on a day too because my mom got injured, so I missed a day of work and got paid less ). Anyway, I thought we were good on groceries—we were not and I should have just paid bills as normal instead did the extra to help my debts and bills.

Oikawa is my favorite villain hahah! (seriously, I love these memes when Oikawa is next to Sukuna in the top villains 😭😭) He has his flaws, he may not be the most pleasant character, but he is brilliantly created and his frustrations are completely understandable! He is extremely human (and childish)

Spring 2024 Commissions are Open!

A like, reblog, and share go a long way!

Thanks to my incredible community, I was able to obtain some different style pen grips to make writing and doing art a little less painful! And that means: my commissions are once again open!

It also means that, since my quarter one bills are paid and I've obtained the accessibility items I was looking for, the first $100 of these commissions is going directly into mutual aid. The first $50 will be given to 10 GoFundMe campaigns out of Gaza (found and verified through Operation Olive Branch), and the next $50 are going towards menstrual products to donate to my city's Free Store (a place where people in need can "shop" for free, and hygiene items are currently on the donation list).

I am, of course, Just Some Guy™, so if you don't like my art style or don't trust internet strangers to follow through, I do highly recommend checking out Operation Olive Branch. They're doing incredible work with finding and verifying Gaza GoFundMe campaigns, and even if you can't afford to donate, spreading the word helps!

Instead of doing a flat overall number of slots, I've decided to set a number of slots available by color options. So, there are 4 sketches, 3 flat colors, 2 full shadings, and 1 color line art with full shading.

As it currently stands, I think 2 full shading and 1 color line art is the maximum of those types of commissions I can accept for the next few months, but this is subject to change. The sketch and flat color commissions, however, are easier to do, so when I finish one from those categories, a slot will be renewed. To see what slots are available, check the Ko-fi module, or see what's in the current commission queue.

Please read the rules and TOS closely! Mistakes happen and there is grace, but repeatedly crossing rules and boundaries (requesting blacklisted ships, content I stated I won't draw, using my art in commercial graphics without telling me, etc.) will result in my no longer doing business with you. I reserve the right to turn down any commission I'm not comfortable with, be it skill-wise or content-wise.

You can request a deadline earlier than 60 days through the Ko-fi module, and I will let you know if a deadline feels unrealistic (e.g. giving me 3 days to do a full shading with color line art piece, I would tell you I need at least a week, etc.) so that we can make a plan that works for both of us.

Incomings, WiPs & Plans for February

First of all, my big announcement for this month: I bought the doll base for Howard Link <3 he will be a Charmdoll LaiKa! As the boy got released I instantly knew this will be my Link, I waited almost 7 months the last time so .. I don't think I will see him before summer.

My current incomings look like this now:

No updates on the other bodies or Pallu by now, but that's okay C:

In terms of Work in Progress dolls, those are the dolls that are currently unfinished:

Yup, you see that right. That pile SHRANK down to basically the ones needing bodies and Darjeeling. And Darjeeling is just waiting for a dress to be finished then.

I *could* start on Adam's clothes as I have the pattern and fabrics here but I think i will do that once his body got shipped. For Kanda and Maple I need the bodies for measurements.

Everyone else is finished. Only small adjustments or upgrades left like swapping eyes or shoes. For bby!Allen I am still working on some little additions, like a plushy

Not done cutting parts here, I'm considering doing a scaled up version for personal fun reasons, why not having a huge Timcampy?

Other than that I will most likely spend the next day tidying up my sewing mess and organizing fabrics, buttons and materials, I.. went a bit wild the last days.

Because yeah... you maybe were able to guess it but Lavi is done. Just finished him today, I have yet to put his photos into the queue, I'm trying to sort my mind right now because the last month was a lot. All I can tell right now is that it feels like a huge burden is off my chest, I think the curse is finally broken, he lost his 'tainted' status shortly after I wrote the blog entry about those dolls but now the 'preorders from hell' finally came to an end (I ignore the one going on though I just sit here and wait that's okay) and that's just ... wow. That needs to sink in.

Inbetween I'm working on my assinged page for the redraw project, I want to give it more time than I usually take as this project is special and I draw a lot therefore improve here and there and I don't want to redo the whole thing in like 2 weeks again just because I rushed it x_x'

When Tim is done I will revert to working on Cosplay and will start on my variant of Crown Clown, which is roughly planned for the Dokomi to be finished. I tested some of the materials today and I think this will be a fun project overall as I can be more artistic this time.

While we are at 'artistic' I have an appointment on the 16th to get my 4th tattoo, this will go onto my left arm to continue my sleeve. It's just my sketch, my artist want to mash up several ideas for the border to match more with the vibe of the Manga & the rest of my shoulder.

He was also amazed how well my shoulder tattoo has healed and how great the shading came out. Dunno if I will be able to do much after getting the tattoo but I'm right handed therefore... maybe a bit less on the strenght training then.

Oh, my juggling has advanced a bit, I am now able to catch 3 balls more than once, I'm still not close to juggle 3 balls but tiny steps here.

Doll Photoshootings is the thing getting time cut though, the weather here is awful anyways :/ hope it will get better soon but the days get longer and then I have more time in the evenings.

Thess vs a Reprieve

So, yesterday, three doctors came in and yeeted a little over 80 bits of typing into the queue. Cue five fucking hours of overtime to get it to about 180, with the knowledge that I was going to have to do more, and terrified that someone would come in today and put yet more bullshit into the queue.

Logged in at about 2:30pm and...

Wait.

No one came in today?

At all?

The queue is right where I left it?

I can actually make a dent in this bullshit properly?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!

So I did three hours and got it down to about 140. Mostly because it was the medium-length-ish stuff left and some of it was ... well, sometimes the doctors are stupid. Or just rushed and working with bad equipment so the mistakes they end up making are a little ridiculous. Like, the three emails I had to send today were:

Hi; you left a whole set of measurements and a block key out of this one, on two separate pots.

Hi; you're not stepping on the foot pedal that lets you record hard enough and lost just one measurement.

Hi; you kind of stopped dictating mid-report. Not even mid-sentence. So I think your foot pedal went to hell.

And then of course I had to tell them all to refer their additions to Scruffman or Temp because I don't work Mondays. Especially not after I have pulled a grand total of seventeen and a half hours of overtime over the course of the week, including giving up most of my weekend.

Also if Temp or New Girl have a problem with me leaving the long-ass monstrosities from Friday for them to handle tomorrow ... well, that's the shit they pull on me four days a week, and I gave up the majority of my weekend because they dawdle so they can fucking cope.

Now I can just ... you know, chill. Have a hot bath, soak out the aches, maybe eat a thing. I'm strongly considering a takeaway. I know I'll have to watch the map and hobble down the stairs because the intercom thing that lets me buzz people in still doesn't work, but the concept of boiling potatoes and roasting a chicken leg just has zero appeal to me right now. Besides, I should probably draw up a sewer map. Just in case my D&D group gets to that today. Though that's unlikely, particularly given that my bestie's having Life Issues and is going to be doing needful shit so can't make it. And of course next session is New Year's Eve, so we're missing at least two people - but at least I have a good excuse for one of them being gone, so that's something.

If anyone wonders why this one campaign has lasted for several years, this is why - so many stalling sessions as people end up missing sessions. Plus their absolute love of really experiencing the setting. Which is nice because I did work hard on it.

hey!! I really really liked this, and I wanted to jot down some things that I liked!!

i figured it'd be a little under a thousand words.. but I seemed to underestimate how much I enjoyed this!! so, here's a (n almost 3k word) review written in 2 days of covid induced rambling (this is a lie I would ramble anyway.)

Anyway, the review starts.. now!

Okaoraraok OK OK!!

.review time.. I really liked this which means i just want to write down my thoughts and not use grammar (and also that ive already made atleast 4 other people watch it)!! You have been warned!! :P (prepare for lots of double exclamation marks..)

~0:03 – let me just start by saying HOLY SHIT THE BACKGROUNDS IN THIS

THE PATTERNING IS BEAUTIFUL

THE COLORS COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER AND BLEND SO NICELY THERE IS ATTENTION TO DETAIL EVERYWHERE!! LIKE HOLY SHIT–

Also!! I love the way burr’s little cuff ruffle is animated <3 its so silly ^^

~0:12 – ONCE AGAIN, THE BACKGROUND!! (this will be repeated a lot, so brace yourselves!!)  I love love love the carpet and all the books/documents stacked on it!! Also!!! The trim on the desk and the walls is so nice!! Really spruces it up!!

~0:14 ..background– IS VERY NICE!! The curtains slightly ajar, the books stacked up nicely against each other at justtttt different heights!! More documents!! Just– the life in the room!!

Also!! Burr’s face here is so expressive!! His slow opening of the newspaper at the beginning, and his slow reading turns to just him  SLAMMING down the paper, and you can feel his anger! His swift, exaggerated movement conveys his emotions so well!! And his eyes!! Truly windows to the soul in this!! All the micro expressions his eyes do alone is fantastic!! Not to mention the growing scowl across his face for an extra touch!!

~0:19 – the horse here is so fluid!! And the wheels move at just the right speed!! Also also!! Haha, background!! The lighting on the left contrasting the right draws your attention and adds some variety!!

~0:26 – IDC IF ITS JUST DOORS, I LOVE THE PATTERNING!! The slightly uneven trim and the diagonal patterning is just– so nice!! And!! And~!! Burr’s dramatic double door entrance and  sassy little shoulder shrug >>> i love him so much alkjrwawjrl;

~0:29 all the people and their shadows!! The different hairstyles!! The different suit styles!! There is so much effort evident in this!! And the colors blend together so so nicely!! The palette is truly beautiful!! Not to mention the background!! The candle holders, the trim, the open liquor cabinet and entrance door that are a darker shade that draw your attention!! And burr being the only true cool color (the greens are all yellow-ish or highly muted)!! His purple contrast!! Aww snap!!

~0:32 ok!! Ok!! This is one of my favorite backgrounds (besides the beginning offices because those were peak)! I just want to say I absolutely LOVE, ADORE, APPRECIATE, and whatever other synonyms there are the patterning. The crossing subtle yellow and orange lines on the table cloth add SO MUCH. the slightly uneven floor boards ground the scene!! The INTENSITY OF THE SHADOWS!! OH MAN!!

~ 0:35 oh boy here he is!! His moonwalk!! His shadow!! His expression!! Oh boy he’s killing it!! Hes the life of the party (set to die within the next week :3) – also, burr’s hunched over conveys his discontentment, and his watching of hamilton emotionlessly shows he’s trying not to react, because hamilton isnt. But he wants hamilton to react. and – oooh boy~!!

0:42 yes. This frame. Its so short, but its so magnificent. The posing!! The vibrance and emphasis of hamilton compared to everyone else!! The distinct foreground that, while more vibrant than the things around it, doesnt detract from hamilton’s emphasis! The perspective!! The trim!! I love the trim in these backgrounds (prob cause i love trim/carving in real life too but ahaha im gonna keep mentioning it!) the different levels of detail based on how close they are to the cam!! The hair!! The hair!!!!!! The queues and bangs and aukrwl;aj;l I cant– and the suits and cravat styles!! So much care for this short segment!!

~0:43 ahh!! This background is simple but i find it really pretty! Just the fading pinks and diagnols and white trim!! Very cute :) – but more than that, theres burr’s expression!! His face is incredibly dynamic here, and I’d like to unpack it!! The narrowing of the eyes; like, seriously?? Are you really acting like this?? After what you;ve said? You have the nerve? Just conveys the emotion so well aughh. Next: the eye roll, bringing it further along. Like, I cant believe you (hamilton) would act like this. The stopping midway and turning to the wine. Like, if I’m not worth his effort he isnt worth mine (but please acknowledge it please ack–)

And then the glass back!! Because, he does care!! Its just chef’s kiss!!

Also, kinda off topic, but the attention to detail with his COLLAR SMOOSHING AS HE LOWERS IS HEAD!?!? OMGGGGG

~0:47 hamilton acknowledging everyone but burr must hurt– the fluidity of it too?? Short but DEFINETLY sweet!! And the little fluttering of his tailcoat (idk what it is, the bottom of his coat) is very nice :) 

~0:49 the expression!! Especially at the end! The gaping wide smile, the eyes closed in happy exclamation! The gesturing with his arms at uncontained excitement!! Rselaeaip

~0:50 burr’s face again!! You have such a knack for (or a lot of practice with) emotions!! The quick widening in shock and outrage of the eyes! The slamming of the glass because of his upsets! The sulking out!

~0:53 its small, but sweet! Everything is more muted than burr, yet hamilton still has his ✨emphasis✨also, trim :3

~ 0:55 sassy shrug 2.0!?!? Oh how you feed us so well!! And again, the expression! The lazy turn, the slight smile back into nonchalance! The turn back to his casual drinking charm/happiness!! Also, the slight slight animation in his hair when he laughs!! Oh man sjgosdgp

~1:04 the paper slamming against the desk!! The timing is so nice!!

~1:06 hamiltons sassy up/down look like, rlly? What is this? Idc fuck off burr :p and then his tentative “mm yeah dont care” grab of the of the paper

~1:09 straight to burr’s “motherfucker istg if you play dumb we can go right here right now” framing!! He;s taller than hamilton, but hamilton fills up more of the frame!! Its an attempt at intimidation, but hamilton doesnt care(?) and then! And then! Burr’s eyes! They squint slightly in contempt and he glares down at hamilton!! His mouth never quirking upwards, always straight or a downward curve! The continued just trying to look down upon ham irakpara – and then! The little head movement straight into the desk slam cuz burr is not happy rn.. And then he goes up again! For attempted leverage!

~1:21 oooh this bitch haha (also background!! Colors are so nice!! And the clock and lighter green segments!! Ooh!! And the window/window trim >>) anyway onto ham! His nonchalant expression which then very controlled-edly (idk) tight motions by his body and voice without emotion in contrast to burr’s “HAMILTON I’D LIKE TO PUSH YOU INTO THE HUDSON RIVER AND NOT LET YOU GET ABOVE THE WATER LINE!” 

~1:28 ahh the paper crumpling as it hits the paperweight! Small details!

~1:30 his (ham’s) going in to condescendingnesss oooo boy

I love this segment so much just cause of burr’s little desk jump hehehe and the tail of his coat going up too cause of physics alrfiajfors

~2:06 ooh! The guns are so nice! All the parts! And the care into the gun’s case! The detail of the cloth (im assuming) to polish it because these scenes have so more life!! The emblem on the top of the case! And the CUFFS I LOVE REVOLUTIONARY CUFFS!! The ruffles and the buttons and the hand’s anatomy are so nice!! And the clothes’ wrinkles too. Plus!! The coat’s box pattern!! And the case’s pattern!! I really love all the slight patterns in this!! Adds such a nice touch!

~2:08 i wanna write the sound work separately but the clicking of the gunshere is so nice!! Also Pendleton(?, or van ness idk who gave out the guns)’s hat here is so nice looking, I CANNOT draw a tricorn from any angle but ¾!! And burr’s gun spin hehe hes so silly! And hamilton grabbing the gun in his own way and just bringing it up!! Cuz they’re dif ppl! Oh!!

~2:10 the background is so pretty!! And its changed from the pastel warm colors of the cincinnati dinner to much more muted and cool colors with the change of atmosphere!! Walking is also very clean!! Augh! <3

~ 2:12 one of my fav parts!! Burr’s slow glance back before continuing his paces!!

~ 2:14 THE WALK AND CAM PAN IS SO SMOOTH!! LIKE DUDE HOLY SHIT! AND THE TURN AROUND IS!! SO FLUID!!! JUST KNOW I LIKE THIS PART A LOT AND DONT HAVE WORDS FOR IT!!

~2:25 like it didnt even matter!! Ooh!! We dont know what really really happened with van ness’ (i just wrote van burr arika;as martin van buren x van ness x aaron burr ahh name) and burr’s and pendleton’s conflicting accounts! We do know there was a shot, and thats what happens!!

This was so good!!!!!! Like honestly!! Major props to you!!

I’m going to get a little into the VAs and sound effects because.. This is almost 2k words and i should be resting since I tested positive for covid.. But.. the VAs deserve a bit of praise too! (a lot, actually) 

anyway !! im gonna be more vague here but here it is!! Juan Sanchez and Andrew Mauret absolutely killed it btw!

(the beginning) – the ambience with the birds, the light quill scratching!! The heavy white noise, almost overshadowing everything but burr!!  I really love Andrew Mauret’s voice here!! The slightly somber tone with the almost sigh-like pausing quality fits burr so well!! 

(ashes of conviction) the crackling fire and slight pocket rustling!! Eee attention to detail!! And you can hear the newspaper as he opens it!! Especially the sounds of the paper being manhandled and slammed against the desk!! Adds so much!! Burrs long deep breath intake before he starts speaking >> i really just love the slow talking burr does!! Hes trying to be collected, but you can hear the slightly somber tone in his voice!! !!! (and then the key jingle as he walks out teehee)

The wheels clacking!! The horse breathing!!!!!! wow!! You can hear the door/carriage creak slightly as burr steps out!! The emotion on “thats where we met” too!! Props to the va!!

(part 1) the ambience of the music here is perfect! The slight knocking to door slam!! Burr’s slight shuffling noise for his soft steps!! The clink of cutlery around burr!! Hamilton’s more.. Clicky?? Steps!! The loud talking around burr as he stares! (also, ‘woohoo!!’ Gives me ‘im a general, whee!!’ vibes) then, the slight thunk of burr’s drink as he aggressively puts it down. Burr’s steps are louder now, more like hamiltons and less like his before, as he leaves the room.

Also, the “he didnt care, at all.” voice work is just– ooh! You can tell burr wants to be loud; but he isnt. He’s trying to stay in control and you can hear it.

(part 2) the faster talking in contrast to burr’s beginning for “and thats when I decided to speak with him, one. Last. time” really brings out that burr is getting more and more absolutely ticked off and failing to remain composed. hes almost breathless here, when before he took deep breaths and had a slow monolouge. And then the “EXPLAIN THESE!!!” is just such a contrast to his earlier talking!! Like he’s losing it!!

The slight ruffle of papers as hamilton shifts his arms. Hamilton VA, Sanchez, you make me hate him. In a good way. He’s so stuck up and nonchalant and just ooooh i want to punch him. The “meh, idc, burr go away” nonchalance of his first line is a GREAT first impression to his character speaking.

Burr still breathes deep before talking (where as a quirk of him or the va. It shows hes still the same person even if hes no longer composed), but now its not so he can have a slow chat but release his pent up emotion. The emphasis on “mister” as if Burr doesnt think hamilton is worthy of the title/pleasantry is gold as well. 

Back to ham. The just opened mouth click like “really?? :/ ur wasting my time” to the uninteresting seemingly put together as he goes explanation!!

The creak as he sits forward in his chair oarraetaer just attention to detail!! And then ham’s “so i won't explain further” is just so sassy!! Then the pause between “unless any’ and “precise” is just rubbing it in for burr!!

Burr’s sigh sounds so genuine. His anger is dropped, and he pauses more/is slower again, but hes still not calm. (also, all the sounds as they move quickly for their clothing moving against each other is just!! Wow!! The effort put into this project!!) and then!! The “however, i am disappointed..” line is so good!! Like, “alright. If you wanna be a condescending dick ill fight fire with fire.” its so well executed!!

And the emphasis on “your refusal” because burr thinks this is all hamilton’s fault!! Just golden!!!

(part 3) burr sounds.. Strong yet defeated at the same type. Like, its happened, and its gonna stay that way, but.. Did it have to? The pauses are now not for composure, but have a sad nature to them. And the pause around settled!!

The change of atmosphere in the music!! (and the grass steps sound nice :3) once again!! Sighs sound vv genuine!!

Then the pop of the gun and hearing it fizzling off and the lone bird call to end it. So quick and its over. Because, no matter how dramatic we may make it, (cough cough “legacy, what is a legacy? Its pl–”) a bullet flies quickly. The duel was over quickly. 

Theres more I want to say but I am NOT letting this get to 3k words 😭 Its almost there and just-- I have spent too much time writing this already instead of resting.. (Idk if i mentioned this but I am positive for covid rn)

Props to everyone who worked on this!! I cannot express how much I like this!! Its rooted in fact and there’s life around every corner!! In the eyes, in the voice, in the background, in the sound effects, in the framing, in the fluidity and timing of motion!! This was absolutely fantastic, incredible, magnificent, and just a true masterpiece!!

This morning I shaved my face and clipped my toenails. Also did laundry throughout the day but I think it still needs more drying. My CoStar said to let myself be weird today so I took that prompt and combined it with defusion to be on the lookout for thoughts that others might be judging me today. Breakfast was a jimmy dean sandwich and rice. I tried to start Ducktales again but I wasn't really interested. I started watching a neat little video about a disney animatronic theft DS linked me.

During my stream, 57 got rowdy with me right off the bat and made the mood weird. I also had to restart my PC before I could draw. No one was in stream today, even he had to leave at least partly because of work stuff. I warmed up by copying Spirit screenshots. Then I did my latest YCH for 2 hours. It was mind numbing, I got so bored by the end of it. I also felt bad about my coloring style being lacking as of late. I feel as though I've been trying too hard to play it safe even though the new way I've been coloring allows for greater freedom and experimentation.

After stream I was gonna play War Thunder or something but I saw TK was on VRchat so I joined her. She and NJ were playing chess which SUCKED but I stuck around while I starting preparing commissions for next month. Then I balled myself up in my hoodie and took a nap in my chair until she woke me up. I left to make lunch. Lunch was a really good tuna quesadilla. It was a little bit small for a meal and I did that intentionally since I've been averaging 141+ pounds. I've noticed my weight tends not to vary too wildly so even 1 or 2 pounds queues me to make small eating decisions over the next few days. Not that I care THAT much. Just something I consider.

Afternoon was spent doing today's request and drawing something quick and silly for DS. Then I started fabricating my next idea that I'll start on next week. I worked on PZ's VRchat world for an hour today. I meant to write the project off completely but I figure I'll spend my weekly Monday 1 hour time slot on it, thats not much. When I was done, I had agreed to play Roblox with TK since we didn't get to over the weekend. I introduced her to the basics of the horse game. I felt nervous because I couldn't tell if she was enjoying it or not. I didn't feel good at selling it because I sort of play it for the vibes. I think it's a great game to play if your primary goal is just chatting. I was about to leave to start dinner which is right when DS became free as well.

DS showed me how she fixed her fursuit's lips which was great, I was so sad to hear she didn't end up liking how they had turned out at first. I try to be reassuring but I struggle to be sometimes. Through my days learning how to manage creativity and artistic expectations, I've learned that there is no "failure" in a way and I like to try and convey this. I've learned you can brute for anything with enough attempts. And each slipup teaches you something new if you let it. The important thing is to stare your 'failures' in the face so you can fully recognize what you need to change going forward.

Other than that we watched a video on Marefair which was just disgusting. It looked like an awful time surrounded by awful people. And yet I could probably make a lot of money if I vended there. Not that I would ever.

In bed we did puzzles and read a couple Monster High chapters. The book is getting real juicy right now. We also learned about a 1994 adaptation of Black Beauty I put on our list of movies. In KH2 I completed the second part of the Pride Lands.

Hello there, I'm currently working on my final project, and I need extra funding in order to buy some books to use for research and for media printing because my final project is a visual-based project that needs to be printed.

I still have 2 more months until the final deadline, and I really want to graduate this semester, so any help will do!

The benefit to my mind of e-ink isn’t it being monochrome, but- well, I remember when I was a child kind of resenting the TV because it drew me to look at it even when I disliked the show that was on, such that I would avoid the living room while it was on - I think refreshing backlit screens, perhaps like fire, have an effect of drawing the eyes, which e-ink lacks, even in color.

Hmn. Now that you mention it, I do have a habit of turning off televisions that I'm not watching if I can get away with it, although that's more to do with sound, rather than light.

Interesting.

More conceptual sketching follows.

So, my way of thinking was that, rather than a singular device, what we would have would be machines composed of multiple, dedicated hardware modules.

For example, there might be an hourly Internet-queue module. An email application would write to the queue to gather emails during the next update cycle. These would then be loaded into some kind of buffer.

Alternatively, the machine might have a high-powered GPU used to render video games... with a hardware timer limiting its use to a few hours per day, possibly with rollover for the week, or limiting use based on how often it's called up.

Alternatively, the machine and its OS might use the hardware to help it track the generation of interaction frames and the number of frames used within some time period.

The idea is that software is too flexible. Borrowing from the diet idea of not buying junk food at the store, with a general purpose computer, it would be too easy, in a moment of weakness, to download and install a version of a future open source clone of Minecraft that has not been registered as a game with software authorities.

Hardware modules, however, are more expensive and more rigid. You have to physically go somewhere if you want to get one, or order one and have it delivered some time between 8 hours and 30 days later. As such, we decompose the general purpose personal computer into parts, and then allow the user to assemble a machine with capabilities which fit their personal rhythm.

A user might then have different time allocations set for different capabilities. Maybe they have 2 hours set for real-time 3D rendering, and 8 hours set for a flat reader mode that displays files from long-term storage, or edits text.

My personal feeling, and this is very vibes-based, was that the user should then have the dignity of the device looking like a 1990s personal computer.

An e-Ink device sounds like a mass-market tablet like the Amazon Kindle Scribe, either with no keyboard, or with a tablet case keyboard.

This is going to sound weird, but an e-Ink tablet with pen sounds like the correct device for Frieren, as in the elf. On the other hand, for some reason, the idea of having an Amazon Kindle Scribe as my only computing device sounds humiliating.

I'm not sure why. I think it's something to do with not being able to call up the power of a PC, combined with seeming (in that scenario) like I'm not able to operate one?

Anyhow.

Intuitively, the consideration above calls up two concepts.

First, imagine a 38-inch e-ink display mounted to a wall, with an almond-colored bezel. It is displaying a high-resolution version of The Great Wave Off Kanagawa. It's probably some kind of elf technology.

What does it do? I'm not sure. The visual came into my mind in contrast with the necessarily small size of cathode ray tube monitors.

Sometimes, these sorts of intuitions don't go anywhere. Other times, they have a logic to them that becomes more apparent on further examination.

Maybe the center of the 38" display is placed at eye level on a desk, and the device is accessed using a keyboard and a mouse. If we consider a 39" 16:9 monitor, it's 33.86" wide and 19.29" tall. With US letter page size, that's 3.98 pages wide and 1.75 pages tall - trim off the margins, and that's about 8 simultaneous textbook pages.

This may be what the power user version of the low-speed e-ink device looks like - unlike a textbook, it isn't limited to 2 pages at a time, so it can represent a schematic with an 8-page spread. Alternatively, it could have 3 separate e-books open at once, plus a text-editor for writing. ...and as a computer, one could easily search, copy, and paste text, flip through dozens of books, and so on.

Thinking about it after writing that, and seeing that large e-ink displays have been manufactured, but that the market is apparently small... a GPU module that only does 3D rendering for games for a couple of hours a day based on hardware limitations sounds like a tax dodge, or rather a min-maxing of allowed computational power through time-shifting.

The emergence of the "turbo library" considered above might imply some sort of regulatory environment that creates the product category.

Second, on revisiting how software's flexibility interferes with creating a computer that doesn't play video games, an alternative method comes to mind - all the user-space executable code comes on ROM cartridges. (Obviously, this has issues for software updates!)

A number of good thoughts here. A nitpick: spreadsheet software very much does support random number generation, and as such I don’t think that’s a good basis to make a distinction. However, effective randomness of “reward” might be. I’ve also thought things that might be called UBL might be good. Perhaps e-ink displays could be helpful for some of this?

Good point, I should have assumed that Excel/etc would have PRNG, although I suppose if a society were implementing something like this, a spreadsheet suite without one would appear pretty quickly.

"Reward" is more subjective, though. CAD software would be another issue. Overall, I think it's undesirable to have a mandatory software classification board, because then that would be used to choke out political dissent. (Dissent against who? Over what? Whoever's in charge at the time, over whatever issue is inconvenient for them.)

Also some people do recommend setting your smartphone to a monochrome display setting, although I have not tried this.

Headcanons for Dad Bruno Au… Pt. 3

a/n: Thinking the next chapter will be shorter. It’s finals week for me. I’d love to here some of your thoughts on the au thus far.

Starting out with Adelita’s mami’s birthday:

Adelita’s abuela continued to celebrate her daughter’s birthday despite her passing. It was a small celebration.

The two would picnic beside the river, Adelita’s mother’s favorite place. Bake pan tres leches for dessert and dinner they’d have only her mother’s favorite foods.

It was late, she was supposed to be asleep, instead tiptoeing through the kitchen to retrieve the slice of cake she’d saved for Bruno.

“Mi querida hija. Feliz cincuentenario, mi amor. Oh, desearía que estuvieras aquí para ver a la maravillosa persona en la que se está convirtiendo tu hija.Estarías muy orgulloso.” - Abuela.

She couldn’t help but overhear her abuela’s prayer.

“Cariño. Es una chica tan brillante, pero solitaria.Me preocupo. No soy tan joven como antes...” - Abuela.

She just chills at the window while Bruno chats away and enjoys the pan tres leches, her mind elsewhere.

Bruno’s noticed she combs and holds on to her ponytail when something is bothering her.

“Hey, peque are you okay?” - Bruno

“Hmm?” Her grip tightened around her ponytail. “Yeah… no. Today was mami’s birthday.” - Adelita

She tells Bruno her family history, everything she remembers Abuela telling her, managing to avoid the topic of her father.

“It’s just me and Abuela now. And you… Bruni, what was your family like?” - Adelita.

…

“It’s okay, you don’t have to tell me. Goodnight Bruni.” - Adelita.

She didn’t sleep. Her thoughts had been consumed by the words of her abuela.

Instead, she made a plan; there were drawings.

Adelita is in a rush the next morning, speeding through breakfast.

Her lizard got upset because they didn’t get a chance to catch any crickets.

But before she’s out the door, her abuela needs one more good hug and a peck on the cheek.

Instead of taking her usual path into the village, she cut through the jungle.

One second she was looking up at the swath of green foliage overhead, the next she was back on the dirt path.

“Are you mad? You don’t just go walking in the jungle by yourself!?” - Bruno.

“Bruni! I found you! You know everything, right? Teach me to make friends! Please.” - Adelita.

Bruno tries to convince her he is not the person she wants for the task. But-

“Please. Pretty please. It’s really super important. So important I said please three times.” - Adelita.

She did say please and holy moly those eyes that pout.

How hard can it be? Making friends?

Adelita squeals like crazy. He’d forgotten how loud kids can be.

“Thank you, thank you!“ she beamed, hugging tightly around the waist. - Adelita.

Bruno is still getting used to her hugs.

Learning how to make friends, Adelita gets to spend more time with Bruno during the day.

They gather in a small oasis clearing in the jungle. Bruno doesn’t mind her being there as long as she doesn’t leave his sight.

Over the length of a week or so - Queue the cliche Disney montage.

Adelita sitting on a stump taking notes surrounded by jungle animals… Bruno trying to braid her hair as she chatters away… Adelita teaches Bruno a special handshake… the two enjoy lunch together in the shade of a ceiba tree.

Finally the day arrives when they're both sure she’s ready.

Bruno notices her gripping her hair, lingering by the foliage, watching the other children play.

“I’ve seen you, you know, watching them. You want to play with them, don’t you? So why don’t you?” - Bruno.

“What if—what if they don’t like me? What if I’m not… good enough?” - Adelita.

“Lita. There’s no need to worry. You are, without a doubt, the most awesome kid I’ve ever crossed paths with. You're one of a kind, kid. And if they don’t see that, they're going to miss out on having the coolest kid as their friend.” - Bruno.

For the first time in a long time, he’s the one to initiate a hug.

The little peanut just stood in the middle of the action. Everything she’d learned abandoned her. She garnered some confused looks and there were whispers, but most just mind their business.

“Is that an anole?”

One child in particular notices the lizard hanging on her shoulder.

“Mmhm. Their name’s Pegajoso. You can hold them, they won’t mind.” - Adelita.

Her lizard friend takes a real shine to the boy.

“Soy Adelita Guerreo.” - Adelita.

“Antonio, Antonio Madrigal.” - Antonio.

The little boy, Antonio, invited her to play rana.

Her Abuela would be so relieved, so proud.

Bruno is proud. Proud papi.

“So do you like lizards?” - Adelita.

“I like all animals, but my favorites are jaguars. Rawr!” - Antonio.

“Wow!” - Adelita.

A friend. A perfect match.
