Proverbs 5:1-2 (NLT). “My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel. Then you will show discernment, and your lips will express what you’ve learned.”
Hebrews 5:14 (ESV). “But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”
1 Corinthians 12:10 (NLT). “He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit.”
“Why We Need Spiritual Discernment” by In Touch Ministries:
“When faced with a decision that seems to have several good answers, rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance.”
“Things aren’t always what they seem. That’s the mantra of many mystery books and TV shows, but it’s also a wise attitude for life. Many people make decisions based on feelings or judge situations by what appears to be ideal. Thankfully, God has given every believer a spirit of discernment to help us determine what’s best.
Think about how many decisions we must make on a daily basis—choices about family, finances, work. In a perfect world, each decision would have a correct and incorrect choice. In reality, however, what seems right isn’t always best. Some things that are neither wrong nor sinful may still be outside God’s will for us.
Scripture doesn’t contain specific directives about every possible life scenario. Instead, it’s filled with principles laid down by direct teaching or, at times, through stories. As we grow in spiritual maturity, biblical principles coupled with guidance from the Holy Spirit help us make godly judgments. (See 2 Peter 1:3.)
The question isn’t whether a certain choice looks good or feels right, but whether it’s God’s will for that point in our life. A spirit of discernment is essential for living in His will. Many choices that feel appropriate are actually contrary to what the Lord desires. That is why we must evaluate situations from a biblical perspective and ask the Spirit to guide us.”

The Weapons of our Warfare are Divine
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the tearing down of strongholds, 5 as we tear down speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 6 and are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is fulfilled. — 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 | Legacy Standard Bible (LSB) Legacy Standard Bible Copyright ©2021 by The Lockman Foundation. Thoughts on Today's Verse… In our battle against evil, we use the spiritual weapons of God that enable us to know the truth and the freedom that the truth brings. The devil's greatest tools are deception and death. God's grace allow us to see through the deception and demolish its falsifying grip on the minds of men and women. God's power has broken through the barrier of death and given us victory in Jesus Christ. Our task in this victory march? To obey our Lord and help others to do the same, finding his grace and power sufficient to help us overcome all that we face that could defeat us.
The Thoughts on this verse were written by Phil Ware.

"THAT CONTAINER IS LYING ABOUT ITS CONTENTS"
Matthew 7:15, “Be on your guard against false prophets; they come to you LOOKING LIKE SHEEP on the OUTSIDE, but on the INSIDE they are really like wild WOLVES.” (GNT) My two favorite seasons are Winter and Fall! Winter, because I love Christmas, snow, carols, decorations and the like. And Fall, because I love the colors, Thanksgiving, the start of the scent of fireplaces, but most of all,…

May I be made to inspire and teach my son to read through his future bible with the desire that I long didn't have, for how long have these radiant treasures of verses been unknown to me in my foolishness?
I have dreaded Godly sorrow lately like I have dreaded worldly sorrow - to be avoided, that there must be another way - but Paul here speaking to the church in Corinth is also speaking to the lame like me: he did not speak so as to harm, he did not speak to bully or to cause lasting wounds. His letter was to, and accomplished, turning the people to repentance. I'm now thinking of Psalm 30:5,
"For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning"
The sorrow that they experienced was for their benefit, and it's not to be the whole of their lives for in Christ there is joy and no more weeping, peace and no more pain.
And what's more, how Paul expresses that he had regret for hurting them. I don't point this out because I think Paul was in any wrong for being harsh, but that he wasn't harsh for the sake of being mean but for love. No one who loves wants to cause pain, but in doing what he had to do and that the Lord saved these people, his regret had been replaced with joy: "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." (Hebrews 12:11).
Now I'm not excited to go out and experience sorrow for the fun of it, but I pray that we would have our eyes opened to our sins, our hearts brought to repentance, and that we would not fear the recieving of any discipline and rebuke but properly fear with respect any discipline and rebuke - harsh as they might be. May the good Lord watch over His children, and may we be made more and more into the likeness of Christ.
Amen.

Harmony
“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.” Psalm 40:3 I am sure many of us have witnessed two distinct ways of singing a song and playing an instrument; and one appears to be more of a gift or an acquired gift than the other. There is the soloist and musician who studies the notes and practices methodically until the…

You can actually take your thoughts captive, like trapping a rat. And then be like, "hmm, is this true or false?" If it's false, reject it (this includes most fears).

2 CORINTHIANS S.O.A.P. ~ CHAPTER 10
Thursday, 1/30/25
SCRIPTURE:
Our weapons that we fight with aren’t human, but instead they are powered by God for the destruction of fortresses. They destroy arguments, and every defense that is raised up to oppose the knowledge of God. They capture every thought to make it obedient to Christ. ~ 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
OBSERVATION:
I know I've been given all the weapons I need...
...but do I use them to destroy the fortresses I've constructed - or allowed to be constructed - in my life?
...in my thought life?
...in my "knee-jerk-reaction" life?
...in my distractedness?
I know they destroy arguments and defenses about "oh, I just wanna..." that put my wants ahead of His will...
...ahead of increasing my knowledge of Him...
But too often I'm afraid I don't let these weapons capture and make every thought obedient to Christ ...
APPLICATION:
Use His weapons...
Destroy my fortresses...
Capture every thought and make it obedient to Christ...
PRAYER:
Father God - You know every thought and every defense I make trying to convince myself that that what I want is or can be acceptable - to others and myself, if not completely to You - despite knowing it is more about what I want than about wanting Your will... I thank You for bringing these thoughts and actions to mind, and ask that Your Holy Spirit continue to remind and empower me to lean into His leading and pick up Your weapons to surrender my fortresses to Your coming Kingdom... In Jesus's Name, Father, and for Your ultimate glory and praise...
As always, yours always, in all ways - through Him...

The Price of Forgiveness
Forgiveness comes at a price. Though it may be offered freely to the offender, it always costs the giver something. The word “forgive” translates the Greek verb aphiemi (ἀφίημι), which means to let go, cancel, send away, or pardon. Forgiveness refers to the act of releasing someone from a debt or offense without demanding payment or retribution. For example, in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus told a…

We Do Not Wage War as Human Beings
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we don't wage war according to the flesh; 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, 5 throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Messiah; — 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 | Hebrew Names Version (HNV) The Hebrew Names Version Bible is in the public domain. "THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE"
THE HOLY SPIRIT’S WORK IN JEREMIAH: God’s call and anointing upon Jeremiah’s life as a prophet began in the womb. God reveals to Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you [as My chosen instrument], and before you were born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you; [and] I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 AMPC). This reveals that the…
