Why Our Idiot Son Fractured His Elbow – an MBTI Explanation

I saw a post on tumblr made by the amazing @louisandtheaquarian about why Louis went ahead and fractured his elbow based on his zodiac sign, which you can read here, and I was inspired, so I decided to make a post about why Louis fractured his elbow based on his Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.

DISCLAIMER! This post is based on my personal thought that Louis Tomlinson is ENTP – making his cognitive function go in the order of Ne Ti Fe Si – so you should keep that in mind, if you choose to proceed.

Alright, let's get into it!

Louis' Dominant cognitive function is Ne (Extraverted Intuition), followed by an Auxiliary Ti (Introverted Thinking), supported by a Tertiary Fe (Extraverted Feeling), and finished by an Inferior Si (Introverted Sensing).

Let's begin from the top. Ne, as a dominant function, acts as an idea-creating machine; It endlessly and relentlessly creates concepts, ideas, and connects all of them together. It takes the concepts from the outer world, creates connections, and makes up an idea. Ne doesn't really care what kind of idea it creates; They can go from a hundred percent rational to ten hundred percent insane. As long as this dot and that dot connect, Ne keeps on going.

It's probably Ne's fault that the idea of the footrace even took form – or any of the activities between Louis and his bandmates, really. Actually, take that a little further back, and you get to see why so many pranks took place during 1D days, all led by the one and only, Louis Tomlinson. Lemon is shoes? Insane, makes zero sense. Let's do it! Silly-string in the middle of a show? Absolutely ridiculous, execute! Screaming for God knows what reason? Bound to make you look a bit mad, tear those lungs apart!

(On a more positive note, this is probably where Louis' creativity comes from. And it shows in his lyric writing process. Ne just does not stop producing ideas.)

So, Ne has this brilliant idea of doing every race in the menu for the fun of it.

That's where Ti steps in.

Ti pulls the brakes on that a bit. Ti is probably the only thing that stops Louis from jumping off the stage and running into the crowd– well, almost. Ti is introverted, so it may be hard to see Louis as a logical person, but. Let me give you this example:

Ti is driven by something beyond like or dislike, love or hate, or the likes of that. Ti really doesn't care for morality upfront. If something sounds ridiculous to Ti, it will be called out instantly. Which is why Louis calls people out on their bullshit almost all the time. (And is why I think Louis is an ENTP and not an ENFP – if he was driven by Aux Fi, he wouldn't have opened a car door to call out a paparazzi for not doing his job while calling him a 'fucking loser'.) Because sometimes, what people say and do sounds and looks completely illogical to his inner logic.

Ti cares little for what other people think is logical. Ti is the reason why Louis is such a rule-breaker and had a knack for making Paul's life hell because none of those rules made sense to him, and so he dismissed them all. Being anything other than honest and straightforward makes little sense to him, thus he dismisses it, and calls people out without shame. He doesn't mean to be rude, which is why his harsher acts of utter sass are almost always followed by a semi-apology (courtesy of his Fe), he just has a personal set of logical rules and plays by them, not caring if they break the rules of the outer world.

His Ti entertains his Ne a lot, let's just say that.

So, Ne says footrace is a good idea. Ti thinks that it is safe, so it is a good idea. Ti also thinks that winning is very nice, sound logic, so there we have the competitive strike coming right up. Fe thinks that, since this is such a great idea, why not go and have fun with all these nice other people who will come with us, if I will it?

Ah yes, the Tommo charm. Ne's insane ideas, fool-proofed by Ti's watch, sound all nice and dandy, but only to a selected group of people who match his level of spontaneousness (like Zayn). So, what makes others tag along with his opinions, starting with his band agreeing to races and 1D boys basically rolling with whatever he did and said, and ending his fans being convinced that flipping him off is not actually rude?

Fe. Your answer is Fe.

Fe reads the room. Fe asserts what atmosphete people generate, what air they carry, and tries to shift it slightly around to match personal wishes. Fe is the one that cares what people think, instantaneously following up a harsh sass with a well-meant 'I'm joking!' to make sure no one is offended.

Fe also loves having people on board with itself. Fe is what gets others to agree with an idea, by making sure that they're comfortable with it. Louis is an extrovert, so he naturally enjoys being around other people, thrives on their attention and sharing moments with them. There's nothing better for fueling his energy than a group of people who agree to go with what he says.

So, Ne says footrace, Ti agrees, and Fe thinks that the more, the merrier. And then, Si.

... Si? Pssst... Where the heck is Si?

Ah yes, Si! Inferior, funny little Si. Inferior, funny, vastly ignored little Si by the very excited, very charged, very ruling Ne. So IGNORED, that this man mistook his broken ELBOW, for his WRIST.

sigh.

Si does two main things; One, it keeps track of inner body sensations. And two, it keeps track of past memories and experiences.

Si shows very loudly when Louis is calm, and is reviewing the past events. He talks very often about his past; from his experience in the band to his friendships to whatever nonsense his history teacher said when he was in school. Si (assisted by Ne) connects the past events and creates a picture of experiences and flashbacks, making sense of memories (Ti), and thus, leading to maturity.

But it's still inferior, it's subconscious. It works silently in the background, and, if overshadowed by Ne, it may go completely ignored.

So:

Ne comes up with insane ideas one after the other, making a long list,

Ti thinks them through, rules out the mad ones, keeps the ones it personally agrees with, regardless of what people say,

Fe knows what people say, but eventually gets them going with the ideas either way, all while working on getting them to like Louis as a person who deeply cares, despite the rough edges, which speeds up the process,

And Si is the tiny one who, in this chaos, gets confused and mistakes a broken elbow for a broken wrist, all the while being ignored by our dear, overexcited, competitive Louis as it tries to voice out past experiences that might've ended in similar disasters.

And it keeps being ignored as Louis forgets the sling and the poor, broken elbow completely after like three days.

This is why Louis, ENTP, thirty years old, originated from Donny itself, broke his elbow in an overexcited footrace just so he could win.

I totally disagree with all this the bts hiatus being similar to 1d mainly bc bts has a much stronger relationship,, just from when 1d went on to do their solo work you could tell who cared about who in promoting each others work and honestly I always got a weird feeling from l?am and lou!s(also don’t think 1d should get back together and their sound as solos are much better as they have their freedom to their music production-aka Harry and Niall and zayn have such different sounds to what kind of musicians they are)

Every time a bts member has released a song or mini album or anything really they’re always lovingly clowning each other and you can tell that they genuinely care,, thinking of the mbti video they’re so respectful towards each other(minus the perilla leaf and shrimp debacle) but still really f*cking courteous to each other bc army can feel the love they have for each other through their actions and expressions,, I think they also had a ton more years and experience under their belt over some other bands/groups(not discrediting anyone bc I’m a multi and casual listener to a bunch) but it does seem like it’s time for them to be adults in a different sense of the meaning, live their lives as individuals and maybe by then they’ll all have done their military service and have a new sound that’ll shake the industry all over again

Anyway armies are forever and this community (for the most part) is super comforting, supportive, and open minded-thank you guys for being a platform to run to and a friend to listen💜

See, at the time, no one knew the exact relationship between the 1D boys. So yes, everyone was devastated at their hiatus announcement and then the news about the true relationship between the boys.

I fully understand and know that the bts boys have a much different relationship and truly enjoy being together. But I still understand the people who are having throw backs to 1D (like me). I was a senior in high school when their announcement was made and I remember crying in my English class.

But now, I have fully different feelings about everything. I understand more about the industry and what it takes to survive. I understand that this isn’t a goodbye. This is literally just them taking the time to find themselves again and they will return better than ever.

I will forever be here, as an army, to listen and be there for my fellow armies for whatever reason because I found love through the boys and want to share that even more💜

- I’m just going to say that she knew from the beginning you will be her bestie for life (accentuate the words FOR LIFE)

- You two really clicked in an instant, which kinda annoyed the other members of the league ( “Since when became the League a kindergarten?” yes, Dabi, thank you for your sarcasm)

- On mission, around the hideout, or simply going out to steal shop some clothes, the two of you are always together, basically joined to the hip at this point.

- You have weekly sleepovers, that in time became daily. You start by doing eachother’s hair (Toga especially loves your red locks, she thinks they are so beautiful and she is right), then painting your nails and bitching about literally anyone.

- Expect a lot of praise from her, you know how she is with people she loves!

- She likes that you are someone that understands her and you always have her back with your upbeat and funny personality. Really, she couldn’t even dream of a better friend!

- The others of the league were pretty worried about you two, since you took the expression: “partners in crime” to literally. The most suspicious were Shigaraki and Dabi.

- Really, what did a sunshine ball like yourself did there with them? At first you seemed so chatty and talkative, basically glowing in anyone’s presence.

- It was also weird, since you had mixed views over a lot of things, really! Shigaraki heard you saying that you like cats, but during a mission you got so scared by one of them. Man was kinda shocked and that says a lot.

- I’m not even starting on Dabi, you know how he is…

- Anyway, all the suspicions vanished into thin air when you started to quote from Dostoevsky during one of your weekly hangouts with Toga.

- Dabi was so impressed, he couldn’t articulate any words (and yes he knew what you were talking about, Endeavour made him read the book when he was 10). Shigaraki however thought that Fyodor Dostoevsky was an anime character (mind his poor soul).

- After that, they started to see how intelligent you are and how your opinions and ideas helped them in their plans so much. (Tbh you saved their asses a lot of times)

- Now they’re all your friends. Deal with it, you have like 6 criminals that are whipped after your bright, kind and smart aura. 😌

Harry Styles is ESFP. Usually, people can’t see him as ESFP because he doesn’t exactly fit with stereotypes but neither do I, so I understand him (plus, he’s the definition of an English gentleman so).

Anyway, yes, he uses Se/Ni. His 1D era and his lyrics as a soloist are pretty revealing of his Se-Fi high use. He can be the kindest man ever but that doesn’t make him a Fe user. Indeed, Fe dom users can seem outgoing and generous but they also can be fake with themselves and they’re more prone to deny their inner thoughts or opinions in certain situations. Fe users usually don’t have many struggles to adapt their opinions or thoughts about something when the -social- situation requires it. Like, they can see the “grey” in everything, while a Fi user looks for whites and blacks. They stick with their own values and they build rooted opinions about almost everything. When healthy, they won’t betray themselves for anyone. 

Harry Styles is the second type of person. But he’s extremely gentle and kind and he LOVES people, and people mislead that with Fe (nothing to do).  

Harry Styles songs are all about INDIVIDUALITY. Or else they are about fruits, lights, rock n’roll and tangible sensations. The man is a sensor and he knows very well what he’s doing. He just wants everybody to be their true selves, as he is. That’s his core message. 

But I’m almost sure he even uses Se more than Fi, which makes him ESFP. Why? Let’s look at an ISFP: Zayn Malik, He’s also opinionated and extremely individualist, to the point the left 1D without warning lmao. He doesn’t crave for people’s love and well-being as Harry does. He’s not people-oriented, and Harry sure as hell he is.  

When being in 1D, Harry was the “pretty boy”, the “face” of the group, and the one who stood out the most. And he was PERFECTLY COMFORTABLE with it. It’s true that Simon Cowell sold us his “heartbreaker” persona (totally not real) but the thing is that he enjoys attention and it’s very lively and charismatic. A true entertainer. And when you see him on stage you have no doubt he has to be called The Performer of the MBTI.

i’m a big fan of the horror/scifi/postapocalyptic genres in tv/film/books and don’t really like romance that much (i always find myself cringing at it if it’s too fake/cliché for my tastes). i love animals - cats being my favorites - and i grew up with tons of them (dogs, cats, mice/rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, hedgehogs, ducks/geese) but i hate spiders (though i still try to save them even if i’m always crying doing it lol). i also always cry when any type of animal dies in a movie! Lila sits across from you in the diner as you skim over the newspaper, looking for any signs of the Hargreeves. After having been assigned to track them down by the Handler, you’ve been working day in and day night to find them. Even if she wasn’t in charge anymore, the woman still terrified you enough to the point where you’d do whatever she asked. Shaking your head, you continue reading, knowing that the family are bound to stick out, whether it be from the fact that they’ve randomly appeared from 2019, or the fact that they seem to constantly be getting themselves into trouble. Your fingers trace over the sentences as you try to focus, try to ignore Lila obnoxiously stirring her spoon in her mug of coffee, the metal clinking against the rim of the cup every few seconds.

“Hey, do you wanna go get ice cream after this?” Lila suddenly asks you, taking the spoon out of the mug and pointing it at you. You jerk the newspaper back before the coffee can drip onto it, and Lila can’t help but snort at your clear irritation. You look up at her, and she rolls her eyes. “Alright, looks like someone doesn’t like ice cream.”

“Are you always this annoying?” you ask, focusing back on the newspaper as Lila frowns at you, eyebrows furrowing. Her jaw clenches slightly as she tries to think of a comeback, and you continue, “We have a job to do, you know?”

“Jeez, sorry for trying to lighten up the mood.” Lila scoffs, and you raise your eyebrows at her. She leans forward on her elbows, “I thought you’d be more exciting.”

You level her gaze, knowing she’s just trying to goad you, but you refuse to let her as your gaze drops back down to the newspaper. She lets out a defeated sigh, and the corners of your lips perk up into a satisfied grin. Your eyes widen as you suddenly read a headline, and you breathe out, “Holy shit.”

Lila sits up as you spin the newspaper towards her, pointing a finger at a grainy mugshot image of Diego Hargreeves. Lila grins as she looks up at you, and you say, “Looks like we’re getting somewhere, after all.”

“Go team!” Lila lifts her hand up for a high five, but you ignore her, leaving some change on the table as you grab your jacket. Lila throws her arms up in the air as you rush out the diner, and she scrambles to keep up with you as she says, “Are you seriously going to leave me hanging?”

“It’s not really teamwork if I did everything.” you point out, and Lila blinks at you in surprise as you teasingly wink at her. You spin around, rushing down the street, leaving her speechless before a smile creeps onto her face.
