Could you please explain what that actually means when Simon said he doesn't own One Direction name?
I’m not a specialist, and we haven’t discussed contracts and business within the music industry for a while, so I apologize if I’m missing some facts. But basically, control over the band's name can have a massive impact on decision-making and financial outcomes. If he owned the name One Direction, that would give him full control over the brand, merch, and sort all commercial uses. The fucker regrets not owning it because he 👏 wants 👏 to 👏 profit 👏 more 👏. It’s all about money. He could be licensing products (he even mentions animations in the video), he could also organize a potential reunion and do whatever he wanted with the band, who knows…
There are so many layers to this. He also mentioned that a band member dropping out of half the tour wouldn’t be a problem if he owned the band because band ownership includes controlling decisions like continuing a tour despite these kinds of changes. I haven’t watched the full interview, but it seems to me he implies that One Direction wouldn’t be on indefinite hiatus if it were up to him. He could even have potentially reformed the band with new members or taken other directions to keep it going without even needing the consent of OT5. I mean, that’s how messed up things could have been. He regrets that the artists are the ones still in control and profiting from it!!!! He wanted to own it so the actual band members would be just puppets, not really an important part of it. No human decency, just money and business. And people still don’t believe all the awful things that went down behind the scenes. We don’t know half of what these fucking greedy people put the boys through.
Side note: He also implies multiple times that Syco did fully own the band at some point. Which is confusing, because we obviously know how controlling the label was for them and how much they profited from One Direction, but I’m pretty sure the boys always owned at least part of the band, they created a company at the very beginning and they obviously still own it and earn from the band to this day. So I’d love to know what the deal actually was and what point this changed.

Hello, I read your masterpost about Louis being sabotaged and if Louis supposedly left Sony, but they still sabotage him, why does the BG still exist? Isn't Louis supposed to have been forced into that or is it because Louis still doesn't want to come out and is waiting for something?
While he and the other boys have supposedly left S*ny (apart from Harry who is still with Col*mbia), there are agreements that still hold to this day that we know nothing about.
To be honest, we don’t even know the extent of the contracts they signed as individuals joining S*co and 1D. There are NDAs and contracts (or parts of them at least) that take effect even decades (worst case scenario, a lifetime) after an artist leaves a company.
Take 1D as a whole for instance: as fans, we are fully aware that S*ny and S*mon did not care enough for these boys. They were extremely overworked and heavily controlled/manipulated—which became the root cause of each member’s individual issues and struggles (i.e., Zayn’s ED and anxiety, Liam’s history with alcohol and substance abuse, etc.). Yet, despite these issues being evident (and us fans generally agree they exist), the boys have never been able to openly discuss in detail what they went through. They’ve hinted on things, probably danced around the topic once or twice, but never dropped direct claims or anything from that whole experience. Yes, other people have shared their truths about X-Factor, S*mon, S*co, S*ny, and the reality of the music industry—but never them. And that is because they are still bound by the agreements that likely remain effective to this day.
BBG is a whole different level of mess. The sheer insanity of that situation already divides fans, let alone the idea of it being unraveled publicly. I can only imagine how bad the agreements surrounding that stunt must be. No one really knows when or how BBG will end, but one thing’s for sure—it’ll be a slow unfolding.
And when it comes to coming out, at least for myself, I’ve accepted the possibility that he and H may never do so publicly—and I don’t blame them. They don’t owe it to anyone. For me, as long as they’re free from stunts and living their best life together in the future without having to deal with all the bs narratives (trying to be optimistic here, lol), that would be enough. Of course, I would love to see them freed from all of this and able to be open (whenever they’re ready), but I’m also not setting any expectations for myself.
Again, this is my take on the situation. I’m not 100% well-versed in the details of their contracts, but based on the public information we’ve seen so far, it’s safe to assume that Louis and the other boys are still bound by numerous legal agreements that prevent them from speaking or acting on many things.

I'm going to write my feelings down below and basically just get everything off my chest:
Grief is such a weird thing nowadays. Because celebrities have passed and it had hurt. I remember hearing Cory Monteith had passed away and I was shocked.
But this feeling is something so different, it's actually jarring. One Direction became a boyband and started creating music together at a time where social media was just entering into people's lives and where young people could consume more content involving their favorite celebrities then ever before.
What's funny to me is that so many people now are almost desensitized to this type of stuff now when a celebrity passes away. However, this was different because I watched him grow along with me. He was only 5 years older than me, but it felt like we both were maturing and understanding the world at the same time.
And with this social media surgence, they also showed and talked and disclosed things about themselves that they probably wouldn't do now if given the chance to start over. The naivety of what the internet was and what it mean to make a vine, make a post on instagram or twitter, it was all so new. It felt like we got to see them clearly and with that, the communities and friends made along the way were unforgettable.
I've seen a lot of people, specifically on Twitter, say that we shouldn't grieve or mourn because we didn't know him and, in recent light, he was not someone deserving of such thoughts and prayers.
To me, however, I'm not grieving the man that he had become. I'm grieving that 17 year old boy who laughed with his chest and had this infectious laugh that always had me giggling at my screen.
I'm mourning the fact that these boys helped me through every single horrible time in my adolescence, yet no one was able to help them once they reached stardom.
I'm mourning the fact that the man will never be afforded the opportunity of redemption. Of moving forward and healing, offering applogies that, while long overdue, could still be given without an expiration date.
I mourn because I'm empathetic of what he meant to others, not just myself. I did not know him but that is not the only reason to mourn someone. I don't mourn a deer in a field, but when I see one laying in the road, struck by oncoming traffic, my heart breaks. You do not need reasonable explanations to mourn when grief does not afford us the luxury to think clearly.
I'm crying on and off, sometimes about Liam, sometimes about the boys and their reactions to the news, sometimes about the new meaning this tragedy brings to certain lyrics. But never feel bad about experiencing your emotions. Life allows us to think and feel things that can be complicated, but that's the price we pay to be in this world. And I think Liam would be thankful for that we get to be here one more day for which he can't.
Sorry if some parts of this don't make too much sense, it's 1:28 AM and I had to write something down or else I wouldn't be able to sleep.

Not aiming this at anyone specifically, but I’m genuinely so disappointed & annoyed at the fact no one in my real life circles bothered to reach out to me to check up on me regarding the recent Liam Payne/One Direction news.
#ignore if you want I’m just gonna vent a minute#it’s been over 3 days now & almost nothing#They know I was/am a fan of at least 1d or could take a pretty good educated guess if nothing else#& yet not one person who knows me personally bothered to ask if I was alright#And honestly… I’m not#I’m fucking struggling#it’s just so complex n confusing & I’m having a really hard time coming to terms with everything#I get it people are busy and have their own things going#& they probably don’t think it’s a big deal losing Liam as it was just a silly little boyband to them#but to me n to everyone who was there for those years it feels so so strangely personal#like a longtime distant friend has just been ripped away so tragically#& not only the tragic death of a person but the death of your adolescence & all the innocence of that time#the end of an era that had so much joy n significance in your life#& I know it’s probably not easy to tell I’m upset bc I keep my emotions pretty much exclusively to myself (thanks autism)#but honestly it’s just so invalidating and isolating to not have anyone to talk to#I already feel so completely alone in general bc no one ever checks in with me n stuff like this just solidifies that#I just don’t think it would have been so difficult just to drop a quick message to say ‘hope you’re okay’ or ‘thinking of you’ at least#it would have made a difference#& I know this post isn’t gonna matter to anyone but I just had to get my frustrations out somewhere bc it’s weighing on me a lot#anyway if you got to here thanks for your time n I hope you’re doing okay!!#feel free to reach out to me if you ever want/need to ❤️❤️❤️#wow that was a lot#personal#Kirsty talks#my posts#my stuff#1d#Liam Payne#one direction

Where do you think zayn ties in to the ownership of 1d name. Do you think he sold his stake before leaving?
After leaving, but yes. Apparently he did sell his share back to the company that holds One Direction's ownership, 1D Media. Now the company is represented by Lawrence Engel and Alan McEvoy on behalf of Harry, Louis, Liam, and Niall. However, we don’t know whether he still receives royalties and profits from his time in the band. I assume he does?! But it's very unclear what sort of arrangements were made when he left. From the public information we have available though, he resigned from all 1D related companies.

Omg I've been a soldier of a few fandoms, and I think life would be so much easier for Charles/Max/Lestappen fans if people just acknowledged the most popular ships and characters always get hate for a variety of reasons. It doesn't matter what the ship is or what the fandom or if it's fictional tv/movies or rpf. It's always the same. Like it's okay fellow lestappies. Just let the haters hate. I promise it's not personal or lestappen specific and it would be the same exact pattern no matter which ship or drivers were on top. Just curate your space and ignore it.
I've gone through a few fandoms where I liked the most popular ship, some where I liked a rarer pair, and one fun time where the most popular ship got overtaken by another ship. Everyone: just do your own thing. You can't change fandom behavior patterns.
Yeah, usually if I am in a fandom and my ship isn't the main one I just play in my corner and when I hear screaming I go "welp that's the main ship doing main ship things" and carry on with my rare pair.
And I have 100% been on the flip-side when I am on board with the main ship (now I am a multi shipper so I always have a rarer pair to keep me sane)
It is harder when it's RPF because that's already a contentious topic with the uninitiated. That makes lestappen a perfect storm for drawing ire.
I will say that yes, let the haters hate, but you don't have to put up with harassment/hate on posts you make, and you should block anyone who makes you feel bad for enjoying your ship. No amount of discourse will change people's mind. There is just a bug sometimes in our social brains that wants to hate what is most popular because it seems cool to do that.
