I just finished the Tithenai Chronicles — looooved them!! You’re truly such a fabulous writer, and I felt incredibly seen by Velasin and his story. Those books rly touch the core of what it’s like to be queer and to keep going and to find happiness despite the trauma (with added fantasy fun!!). It felt like coming home as a queer reader
that being said I do have an incredibly important question:
did bbc merlin affect you at a critical age?
this survey is for science thank you for your time
Aaaah, thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed them :D As for your incredibly important question: while I never got into BBC Merlin, as a certified Mythology Nerd, I was affected by a different Merlin property at a formative age - the 1998 Merlin TV miniseries, which is (IMO) woefully underappreciated. It's camp and silly in parts, incredibly affecting in others, and doubtless hasn't aged perfectly (it's been a while since I've seen it), but to this day, it remains my favourite Arthurian adaptation, as out of everything I've seen, it keeps closest to (a version of) the canon while interrogating it through an arguably feminist lens. Also, in terms of the casting, it's up there with the original 1994 Interview With A Vampire for having Literally Goddamned Everyone in a single production, like:
Tumblr media
Just look at this! An insanely stacked cast, and as I look this up now on IMDB, I'm learning that Sebastien Roche (aka Balthazar on Supernatural) was also there, which all by itself is making me want to watch it again, just to see what he looked like in his larval stage. Which is the other answer to this question re: Significant Fandom Properties Of The 2000s-2010s: I didn't get into BBC Merlin, but I was deeply invested in SPN and Teen Wolf for a while there. Make of that what you will!

I wasn't expecting to do this poll so soon, but as all of our Merlins were unhorsed in the Qualifying Round, it's time to determine by popular vote...

Thinking about this 1998 TV movie called "Merlin" with Sam Neill in the title role and monsters created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. It was a retelling of Arthurian legend, but with Merlin fighting all the while against the Fairy Queen Maab, who bitterly resents the spread of Christianity into the British Isles; but anyways, what I remember about it is that the big, climactic final battle against Maab is a sort of anticlimax, because Merlin just gets everyone to stop believing in the Fae and...that's it. There's not even a fight after that. They all just walk out of the room while Maab screams at them, but it doesn't even matter anymore because she's just become completely irrelevant; not even worth fighting.
And of course, nerds at the time were making fun of this ending (and maybe it wasn't particularly well-written; I don't remember, I was 10 when I saw it). But I actually think that it's kind of brilliant. Because that's sort of how political power actually works; it seems completely invincible right up until enough people stop believing in it, and then suddenly...it's gone.
Anyways, that sticks with me.

ATTENTION ALL OF FURBLR
Hi. So can we agree that @furbyutopia 's idea was pretty dope an it brought us all together? Can we also agree with @furbymother that we should do more things like that in the future? If you said yes I have an idea for you!
A week of Humanized furby's! (humanoid furby's?) Where you either draw, use picrew, etc to turn your furby into a humanoid (or anthro) version of themselves! Elf, orc, mermaid, cat, ANYTHING GOES just as long as you're happy with it. It'd include your art/picrew along with a physical pic of your furby. You can add anything else like backstory, history and relationships in the post too^^ really share your love for your little guys!
#Week of Furby 2024!

My favorite arthurian tv shows and minisiers (part 1/2)
(My favorite movies here)
More details under cut. Some of these I love, some are so bad so good, some are beautifully epic, some are just funny.
The Adventures of Sir Galahad: Short one season tv show (15 episodes) about Galahad having to recover Excalibur after it was stolen. Also the one and only show where Galahad and Mordred interact.
The Adventures of Sir Lancelot: 30 episodes of self contained light and sometimes comedic adventures focusing on Lancelot living at Camelot. Still very much enjoyable today! Other characters who appear are Merlin, Arthur and Guinevere.
Arthur of the Britons: The first attempt to make a tv show focusing on Celts and a Celtic Arthur. Episodes are self contained. Kind of strange sometimes, and the only arthurian characters are Arthur, Kay and Ector.
The Legend of King Arthur: An 8 episodes BBC show which adapts Malory. This is the best arthurian tv show ever created! It also has an amazing Morgan and a stellar Mordred. Actually made me cry!
Entaku no Kishi Monogatari Moero Asa: Toei original anime (no manga) of 30 episodes that follow Arthur's journey to reclaim Camelot after it was conquered by a villain.
The Boy Merlin: Very short 6 episodes series about Merlin as a kid discovering his powers. It was very light and with an historical aesthetic.
Merlin: Two episodes miniseries, extremely popular! It follows Merlin from his childhood to the death of Arthur. While it is not my favorite, it has some great scenes in the second part where Guinevere, Mordred and Lancelot are introduced.
The Mists of Avalon: Miniseries adaptation of a novel I really dislike - but I love this miniseries. It might actually be one of my favorite arthurian series. It focuses on Morgana and her relationship with Arthur and Guinevere. It also has an amazing Mordred and Morgause, one of the rare times where we see Morgause.

Time for some actor trivia!
In the 1981 film Excalibur, the adult Mordred was played by Robert Addie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the 1984 TV film Morte D'Arthur, Mordred was played by Nickolas Grace.
Tumblr media
That same year saw the debut of the TV show Robin of Sherwood, which ran until 1986, in which Robert Addie and Nickolas Grace appeared together as the recurring villains Guy of Gisburne and the Sheriff of Nottingham respectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(By the way, if you guys haven't seen the show--watch it. Watch it now. Also check out the soundtrack by Clannad, who recently released an extended version of the soundtrack album Legend).
The two would appear again in the 1998 TV miniseries Merlin, in which Grace played Sir Egbert and Addie played Sir Gilbert. (Fun fact: composer Trevor Jones did the score both for Excalibur and for Merlin).
Tumblr media
Why am I pointing this out? Because Robin of Sherwood was one of my favourite TV shows ever (I got super into the legends of Robin Hood when I was ten), and seeing a clip of Robert Addie in Excalibur on YouTube got me curious about seeing the movie, which I now consider my favourite ever Arthurian film. The 1998 Merlin meanwhile, having first watched it at the tender age of around seven or so, was what got me into the Arthurian legends in the first place. So seeing these two actors recur in these pieces of media that made an impact on me and my interests is something I just find fascinating.

Period dramas dresses tournament: Blue dresses Round 1- Group D: Morgan Le Fay, Merlin (gifset) vs Lygia, Quo vadis? (pics set)
Propaganda for Morgan's dress (written by a submitter):
She is magically given Roman-cut clothes in blue silk in order to become a fashionable (we are in the late 5th/ early 6th century after all) pretty lady in order to seduce her brother Arthur and become mother to his heir and nemesis, Mordred.
