A Room with a View (1985) Director: James Ivory
“I have no profession. My attitude - quite an indefensible one - is that as long as I am no trouble to anyone, I have the right to do as I like. It is, I dare say, an example of my decadence.”

Laura Harris, Shawn Hatosy, Josh Hartnett, Clea DuVall, Elijah Wood, and Jordana Brewster in The Faculty (Robert Rodriguez, 1998)
Cast: Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, Josh Hartnett, Shawn Hatosy, Elijah Wood, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Piper Laurie, Christopher McDonald, Bebe Neuwirth, Robert Patrick, Usher, Jon Stewart, Daniel von Bargen. Screenplay: Kevin Williamson, David Wechter, Bruce Kimmel. Cinematography: Enrique Chediak. Production design: Cary White. Film editing: Robert Rodriguez. Music: Marco Beltrami.
Two premises are key to The Faculty: that adolescents see adults in authority as alien figures, and that high school is an instrument for instilling social conformity. The former has been the stuff of movies since Rebel Without a Cause (Nicholas Ray, 1955). The latter is in evidence today in the efforts of states like Florida and Texas to remake education along conservative ideological lines. Unfortunately, Kevin Williamson's screenplay and Robert Rodriguez's direction don't take either premise seriously enough to make more than a raucous but routine sci-fi/horror movie out of the material. The result is exactly as the Criterion Channel describes it: "The Breakfast Club meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers." John Hughes's 1985 movie put a Jock, a Brain, a Criminal, a Princess, and a Basket Case together in detention and explored the interaction of disparate high school stereotypes. The Faculty's misfit crew is a little more complex: Stan (Shawn Hatosy), the Jock, wants to quit the team, and Zeke (Josh Hartnett) is both Brain and Criminal: He concocts his own drug (unfortunately called "scat") in his lab, selling it out of the trunk of his car, and he has an off-the-charts IQ. Elijah Wood's Casey is bullied the way Brains typically are in teen movies, and Clea DuVall's Stokely is more of a goth-punk rebel than a Basket Case. Jordana Brewster's Delilah is an overachieving Princess, both editor of the school newspaper and captain of the cheerleading squad. They are joined by a New Girl, Marybeth Louise Hutchinson (Laura Harris), a transfer from Atlanta to their Ohio high school who comes complete with a somewhat cloying Southern accent. If The Faculty had kept its focus steadily on this group as they uncover the fact that their teachers have been taken over by an extraterrestrial organism, the movie would have had more coherence and suspense. Instead, it opens with the revelation that something is clearly causing the teachers and the principal to go mad and murderous. The principal (Bebe Neuwirth) is attacked in her office by the coach (Robert Patrick), and when she tries to escape, her way is blocked by a teacher, Mrs. Olson (Piper Laurie), who suddenly turns from meek to menacing. After missing work for a day or so, the principal returns as if nothing had happened. Meanwhile, other teachers have been showing personality changes that begin to spread into the student body. It's not long before the movie begins to invoke the other half of its inspiration, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Don Siegel, 1956; Philip Kaufman, 1978). Williamson, whose screenplay for Scream (1996) was full of allusions to other horror films, can't resist making the source for The Faculty explicit, so when his teenagers cite the movie themselves and use it as a guide to fighting the alien, The Faculty becomes too meta for its own good. There's enough to enjoy in the movie, including good performances by most of the cast. Hartnett is particularly good in the role of a guy who's embarrassed by his own intelligence. It's fun to see Jon Stewart, who plays a science teacher, in one of the acting performances he likes to make fun of. But when it comes to making good on its key premises and developing a real satiric edge, The Faculty has to be called a missed opportunity.

Liked on YouTube: Almost Famous - The Real Lives of Groupies || https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4YIGbxOT_8 || Almost Famous (well, Untitled - the director's cut of it) is my fav movie. But that doesn't mean I don't want to peel back the curtain of 70's teenager nostalgia on an infamous time in Rock and Roll and talk about the behind the scenes. Penny Lane, well, Kate Hudson's portrayal, captured everyone at the time and was and still is many people's wardrobe inspirations but she's actually based on real people. Everyone in the movie is honestly, though it is a sanitized version of the truth. As you know, here we like to uncover the reality, and we're doing just that with groupies, talking about some of their lives, the attitudes of rockstars, and how this way of life got corrupted not only by business but by exploitative super stars. We Are The World 25 For Haiti - Official Video February 27, 2010 - 14 Years Ago Today: Artists for Haiti had the Hot Shot Debut at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with their single, "We Are The World 25: For Haiti." This Michael Jackson/Lionel Richie-penned song originally spent 4 weeks at No. 1 beginning April 13, 1985 and ultimately spent 18 weeks on the chart. Bebe and John Taylorfrom Duran Duran dated from 1984 to 1985.
John Taylor, Duran Duran's bassist, had been dating a model & singer by the name of Bebe Buell and he offered to assemble a funked up version of the old T. Rex rocker ‘Bang A Gong (Get It On)’ (1971/2 US#10/OZ#14/UK#1) for Buell to contribute vocals on.
John Taylor had asked his Duran Duran band mate Andy Taylor to play guitar on the track, and invited former Chic drummer Tony Thompson to contribute as well. In late 1984 the trio had laid down several demo tracks in the studio, including a few original numbers, before as fate would have it, J. Taylor and Buell went their separate ways.
John & Bebe Buell. What a hot picture. This is the only pic I’ve ever seen of them together.

I’m sorry to ask you this question and I know this will cause a war. What do you think about the Lori Maddox and Jimmy Page situation? I know this happened in the 70s but it’s so weird seeing people denying that he ever dated her when it was very obvious. Also the fact that he dated women much younger than him and none of them have written any memoirs (especially Charlotte Martin). I wonder if he is silencing her or not letting her write one (or maybe she just doesn’t want to). Idk, I know he is definitely not the only rockstar that has dated minors but it’s hard to listen to Led Zeppelin when I keep hearing about that disgusting situation. And how other groupies like Bebe Buell and Pamela Des Barres were trying to make it seem like it was ok in their memoirs. I just hope the truth comes out about that whole situation.
I wrote a ridiculously long post about Lori's history a few years ago that's pretty much all I have to say on this situation, tbh. As for the memoir topic, I think Lori might actually be self-aware to realize she doesn't have enough information for a whole book; and that's probably why she's only ever shared the same 10 stories over and over again since 1985. A lot of publications probably aren't interested in her glamorized narrative about being a groupie anymore since #metoo happened either.
Regarding Charlotte, my theory on why she's never been interviewed is that she doesn't want to acknowledge Pattie Boyd accusing her of sleeping with George Harrison while she was visiting the Harrison estate after Eric Clapton dumped her, lol.
For the record, I don't endorse underage groupies or dating between adults/minors. The more I age, the more uncomfortable I am with most of these famous stories and that's one of the reasons I don't post as much LZ on my blog as I used to. But at the same time, it's really frustrating how most of these women have terrible takes on feminism, statutory rape, misconduct, etc., and awful storytelling skills.
TL;DR my fascination with groupie culture has always been more of a 'morbid curiosity' of sorts, and I'm generally more interested in the wives, girlfriends and muses in music/classic rock.
