I don't know what was happening with James Ivory in the 1980s but he had a crush on young Rupert Graves. And I can't blame him.

A Room with a View (1985) Director: James Ivory
“I have no profession. My attitude - quite an indefensible one - is that as long as I am no trouble to anyone, I have the right to do as I like. It is, I dare say, an example of my decadence.”

It has come to my attention that it's Period Drama Appreciation Week 2023. I love period dramas and grew up watching them. They have been a formative part of my life and I'm now too disabled to watch video. Even gifs are too difficult for my brain to process. It is also Bi Visibility Week and I'm posting this on Bisexual Visibility Day. Since I can't safely post a pile of gifs, here is a list celebrating actors/characters/moments from period dramas that have been significant to my bisexuality. [Yes, this is a big list. I am missing out on watching and re-watching A Lot of awesome period dramas and I hate it. This list is helping me reclaim a bit of joy. Also I've probably forgotten some favourites and may update this.]

Fun fact:
Rupert Graves as Freddy Honeychurch in the movie A Room with a View (also by Merchant Ivory productions) has been my Tumblr icon for months. I still haven’t watched the movie, though I did check out a copy from the library to watch over break. I refuse to change it.

Freddy Honeychurch: Come and have a bathe.
George Emerson: I'd like that.
Reverend Beebe: [laughs] That's the best conversation opening I've ever heard. "How do you do. Come and have a bathe."

reviews for ransom #008
TITLE: A Room with a View
DIRECTOR(S): James Ivory
GENRE(S): Romance, Historical
RATING: 7.5/10
REVIEW: This is my mother's favorite film! There was so much I loved about it: the artistic aesthetic, visuals, and setting made me swoon, as I feel it intended me to. I already adore Florence, but this made me fall in love all over again. A great, strong cast of unique characters, my favorite by far being the token silly brother, Freddy Honeychurch. Lucy Honeychurch herself is a great protagonist, though I felt underwhelmed by parts of Helena Bonham-Carter's delivery, and unfortunately, the same goes for Julian Sands as George Emerson. Regrettably the love story fell short for me, though I enjoyed how George was plain old strange with a deep heart, especially when compared to the snooty, awful Cecil. Some of George's behaviors just plain bothered me; maybe it's my taste in romance? Though the gorgeous period setting and costume charmed me, I was left awkwardly clutching onto an underdeveloped true love.
