DIFFERING COLOR SCHEMES GALORE -- IT'S THE HYPERNAUT REDUX, KIDS!
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on an image-dump of the Hypernaut and opening splash page to the "It Came from... Higher Space!" short story, which also introduces the Hypernaut, from the pages of 1963: Vol. 1 -- Book Three: Tales of the Uncanny." June, 1993. Image Comics.
Resolution from largest to smallest: 1000x1566, 820x1235, & 680x1024.
OVERVIEW: "Today, dear readers, we take a look at the oddest hero of the 1963 timeline! Believe it or not, this orb-headed individual, who shares similarities with Arnim Zola from Captain America, is in fact the Iron Man of the group. His name is Hypernaut! However, as you’ll soon learn, this hero shares similarities with another hero. One who isn’t of Marvel.
The story begins with the origin twist I mentioned earlier. While talking to his alien primate buddy, Queep, Hypernaut explains a familiar origin. Stop me if you’ve heard this before. A pilot, in this case one named Dan Stevens, crashes a prototype jet, discovering a corps of super powered aliens. While there’s no doubt that the crashing, injury, and the eventual metal exterior leads him to be more like Iron Man, there’s no doubt that Mr. Stevens shares similarities with Hal Jordan, a.k.a., the Green Lantern!"

hello :) i have very recently gotten into namor comics and i wanted to know, what are your favorite arcs/solos hes had? i hope its not too much of a bother. thank you and i hope youre doing well. ^_^
Hello and welcome. It's always a pleasure to speak with Namor fans ❤️ Thanks for asking, I'm well and I hope you are too.
Series:
King in Black: Namor - It's wonderfully written and gives us great lore and character moments. It's written by Kurt Busiek who really knows the character. The artwork is amazing, drawn by two different artists but I have to point out how much I really enjoy the colorists' work. The way they chose to make present day Namor scenes all muted colors, like the ocean is sick and dying, meanwhile his past scenes has such vibrant color.
Sub-Mariner: The Depths - I'm a big horror fan so this was a perfect combination of horror and Namor. I wish this would someday be adapted into a short animation or live action film. Ribic's art carries the whole comic, you could understand it just by the art alone, tho the writing is great too.
Sub-Mariner (2007) - Honesty I feel this series is criminally under rated, it's one of my favorite modern takes on Namor. I do have a couple of criticisms of the plot/ending but overall this series is favorite, love the artwork, love the premise and Namor's characterization.
The Sub-Mariner (1968) - I'm a big fan of Silver Age Namor and this series has lots of great comics but some do drag on at point. Personal favorites, Namor vs The Thing and Namor meeting Betty again in #8, Dorma being possessed by the Serpent Crown in #9. Gonna stop there before I go digging to find every issue I loved, bc there's just a lot there, like I love Tigershark's introduction/stories and Namor and Diane's friendship, and the quest for Namor's father etc.
Arc's:
Tales to Astonish: The Quest for Neptune's Trident #70-76. (To be fair I do love a lot Tales to Astonish but I'm just trying to pick out arcs that I reread alot.)
Namor goes insane in space: Uncanny X-Men (1963) Annual 3 (2001), Steve Rogers: Super Soldier Annual 1, Namor: The First Mutant Annual 1
Suma-Ket & Artys-Gran Arc - Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) #30-40. Dark Undersea High Fantasy arc, love it.
Solo Comics:
Marvel Fanfare (1982) #16 & 43, both these are solo adventures
Marvel Snapshot: Sub-Mariner (2020) - I can never get enough of this comic, told from Betty's pov, its wonderful.
Avengers: Emperor Doom - I love every time Namor and Doom team up or interact but if I had to pick one time it's this.
What if? Sub-Mariner (2011) - Love love this story by Greg Pak of Namor growing up on land.
The Judgement of Namor - Dark Reign: The Cabal - Namor takes court and deals with his subjects. An excellent look into Namor's role as the monarch of Atlantis.
Marvel (2020) #3 - I loved the sketch arts of the comic that was unfinished, it had been around for decades but when Marvel finally printed it in full I was so happy. I still prefer the sketchy art but I thought this was a fun adventure and Namor is in a suit, lol.
Marvel Comics Presents: (1988) #33 - All time favorite Namor comic, #1 spot in my heart. (2007) #7 - Namor mourns Nita's death (2019) #1 - A heavy story by Greg Pak about WWll
Tales of the Marvels: Inner Demons - a look at Namor while he was an amnesiac
I haven't even started on character team up comics or team books and if I start on those I won't stop. lol. I'll put a link here to my 2019 comic reading guide that can help you find most major arcs. I hope you enjoy reading!

Master of Horror: Unraveling the Dark World of Junji Ito
In the realm of horror manga, there exists a master storyteller whose name strikes fear and fascination into the hearts of fans worldwide – Junji Ito. With an uncanny ability to tap into the deepest recesses of the human psyche, Ito has crafted a unique and chilling universe that leaves readers both spellbound and haunted. In this article, we delve into the enigmatic world of Junji Ito, exploring his artistry, thematic elements, and the impact he has had on the horror genre.
The Genius Behind the Pen
Junji Ito, born on July 31, 1963, in Gifu, Japan, rose to prominence in the 1990s with his eerie and imaginative manga works. His illustrations are instantly recognizable, characterized by intricately detailed, surreal, and grotesque imagery that lingers in the minds of readers long after they turn the last page.
Ito's fascination with horror and macabre art stems from his childhood, during which he devoured classic horror literature and developed a deep appreciation for the works of H.P. Lovecraft. This influence is evident in Ito's stories, as he skillfully blends cosmic horror with his unique Japanese cultural perspective.
Themes and Influences
At the core of Junji Ito's work lies a profound exploration of human fears, anxieties, and the unknown. He artfully weaves tales that transcend traditional horror tropes, often delving into the psychological and existential terror lurking within the human mind. Some of his most prevalent themes include:
Body Horror: Ito's mastery of body horror is unparalleled. He crafts tales where the human body is subjected to grotesque transformations and nightmarish distortions, often blurring the lines between the real and the surreal.
The Supernatural: Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese folklore and urban legends, Ito introduces readers to malevolent spirits, cursed objects, and vengeful ghosts that haunt his characters relentlessly.
Isolation and Madness: Many of Ito's stories unfold in isolated settings, with characters descending into madness as they confront the incomprehensible horrors before them.
Fatal Obsessions: Ito's characters are frequently driven by obsessions that lead them down dark and destructive paths, exploring the depths of human obsession and the price paid for pursuing forbidden desires and impulses.
Landmark Works
Junji Ito has created an impressive body of work that continues to captivate readers worldwide. Some of his landmark works include:
"Uzumaki": A chilling tale set in a small Japanese town cursed by spirals, where the obsession with the shape takes a horrific toll on its inhabitants.
"Tomie": Featuring the eponymous beautiful and deadly girl who inexplicably keeps returning from the dead, driving those around her to madness and murder.
"Gyo": A nightmarish story of walking fish-like creatures that bring pestilence and terror to the world.
"Junji Ito's Cat Diary: Yon & Mu": A departure from his usual horror, this is a humorous autobiographical manga about Ito's life with his cats, Yon and Mu.
The Junji Ito Phenomenon
Junji Ito's influence extends far beyond the manga world. His works have inspired multiple adaptations, including animated series, live-action films, and even video games. Fans around the globe celebrate his genius by creating fan art, fan fiction, creating merchandise with his designs and participating in conventions dedicated to horror and manga.
Conclusion
As an artist who has read his book 'Uzumaki', I thoroughly enjoyed my reading experience and think his attention to detail in each of his drawings, plus his endless imagination for truly horrific scenes makes him stand out compared to other artists. In conclusion Junji Ito stands as an artistic enigma, a brilliant mind capable of summoning the darkest nightmares and phobias with the stroke of his pen. His contributions to the horror genre have secured him a place among the most revered and influential creators of our time. Whether you are a devoted manga enthusiast or a newcomer to the world of horror, Junji Ito's works promise an unparalleled experience of terror and wonder, reminding us all that even in the darkest corners of our imagination, true artistry can be found.

Comics I Read Today
August 19
1963 Book Three: Tales of the Uncanny (1993, Image)
We’re back to the Silver Age of 1963 with two tales featuring U.S.A. (Ultimate Special Agent) battling commie Red Brain and a time traveling alien. The second feature stars the trippy Hypernaut and space monkey Queep fighting a fourth- dimensional entity bent on destroying our dimension! It’s exciting and “uncanny!”
My Rating: 8
Star Trek #71 (1995, DC)
Kirk gets caught up in a tangled web of intrigue with a stolen Klingon artifact. Decent art and even better story makes this a fun read.
My Rating: 7

THE FOGGY APPEARANCES MASTERPOST
So I decided, after literal years of relying on places like the marvel wiki and comicvine to look for and double check Foggy Nelson's appearances throughout the marvel universe, to go and make a comprehensive list of his appearances outside of the main Daredevil title, counting Daredevil limited series and one off stories, along with cameos and alternate universes. The intention was to streamline the process for myself so i dont have to scour through pages and pages every time I wanna remember which comic that one thing happened, but hey, why not make the process of finding comics easier for people who aren't as deranged as I am? So here I made this post, from a real Fog-head to other Fog-heads out there, listing every issue outside of the Daredevil title (as it is more straightforward to find him, and extremely long to type on this list) he appears in, from barely there cameos to central roles, sorted by whether they are set in Earth 616 or not, and in no particular order. This is simply a list to serve as a guide to find him, it is not a curated list so the quality varies wildly, but I hope you're all as curious as I was to find all the most obscure and niche Foggies out there. Enjoy :)
EDIT 1: The original post had been published without one of my alterations to the draft saving, so if you reblogged it without this edit, the list was missing 14 titles.

The evolution of Doctor Strange's outfit
Notes:
- When I say “classic outfit”, I’m referring to the blue robe, Eye of Agamotto and red Cloak of Levitation. The sash/belt may change.
- Some pictures are from different issues in order to offer a better view of the outfit. Every issue is addressed with its proper numbers.
- I left civilian outfits out of this list because I wanted to focus on combat uniforms.
- I left some “variants” (such as Paradox) out of the list because he’s one of Stephen’s sides that became sentient so not really him. Same goes for minor changes (such as Anti-venom and venomized Doctor Strange).
- I left alternate universes out of the list because it would be too much to make a comp but I can make a separate post on that matter.
History
Doctor Strange debuted in Strange Tales #110 (1963) wearing a blue long-sleeved robe, orange gloves and sash, the Amulet of Agamotto and black/bluish pants. As I was doing my research, I noticed that Stephen’s debut didn’t feature his blue “lesser” cloak of levitation, which was only introduced in Strange Tales #114, thus becoming a permanent part of his outfit. It was substituted with the red Cloak of Levitation in Strange Tales #128 (1964), along with the Eye of Agamotto after Stephen triumphs over Dormammu.
From Strange Tales #115 and #128, respectively.
In Doctor Strange v1 #177 (1974), as part of the plot, Stephen begins to wear a more “heroic” looking, adopting a blue mask and... underwear over pants. The look doesn’t last much and Stephen goes back to the classic red Cloak and no mask.
From Doctor Strange v1 #177.
In Doctor Strange - Sorcerer Supreme #10 (1989), a small change can be seen: Stephen loses the “skirt” in his robe, which is now under the sash (reference from issue #12).
From Doctor Strange - Sorcerer Supreme #17.
After long years of no apparent change, the 90′s came and gave us this atrocity in Sorcerer Supreme #75 (1995). Stephen now wears a black suit with white ornaments, mask/dark glasses and long hair. No goatee/beard (outrageous!).
From Doctor Strange - Sorcerer Supreme #76.
Thank the Vishanti, the outfit only lasted 5 issues, being substituted with a white shirt featuring golden ornaments and black pants, while the Cloak of Levitation took the shape of a trench coat in Sorcerer Supreme #80 (1995 - reference from issue #82).
From Uncanny X-Men #329.
The next outfit only lasted two issues in the pages of Spider-Man Family v2 #5 (2007) and it’s not like anything we’ve seen before: long-sleeved red and blue shirt with yellow shoulder pads and edges, blue pants and a yellow sash. All the rest featured Stephen either in his Sorcerer Supreme lastest outfit or his classic one with the red Cloak of Levitation.
From Spider-Man Family v2 #5.
Stephen will only leave his classic outfit behind when he finds himself unworthy to be the Sorcerer Supreme. He then wears a long-sleeved black turtleneck and gray pants and trench coat in New Avengers v1 #51 (2009 - reference from issue #59). Little changes are made, mostly based on colors. First of them is recognized by both his pants and trench coat that now become brown in Fear Itself - The Deep #1 (2011). Next, the pants become gray while the trench coat remains brown in New Avengers v2 #1 (2010). Lastly, the trench coat gets a greenish shade in New Avengers v2 #34 (2013). You can also notice a regular belt. Note: it is not the first time we see him in turtleneck and brown pants and trench coat, as seen in Quasar #19 (1991). This look, however, is not a battle outfit like the others. Still, the inspiration is clear.
From Quasar #19 and New Avengers v2 #2, respectively.
Finally, Stephen debuts his black and red outfit in Defenders v4 (2012). The sash and gloves are now red, as well as the symbol on his chest. No cloak is featured but he can still fly. When he takes the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme back, little changes except for the Cloak of Levitation and Eye of Agamotto, although the black suit gets some shades of blue due to Mike Deodato Jr.’s art.
From Defenders v4 #1.
It’s only in Secret Wars (2015) that Stephen gets a really bad haircut and a full black suit with ornaments in yellow, along with a lilac cape.
Stephen then is “rebooted” to Doctor Strange v4 (2015), having his Cloak and Eye back, although with a new belt featuring a bag and new boots. In Doctor Strange v4 #12, however, Stephen has his cloak tore by Imperator, and begins to wear a blue cloak (not confirmed to be the original from Strange Tales).
From Doctor Strange v4 #18.
In Doctor Strange v1 #384 (2018), Stephen momentarily takes the shape of the God of Magic, wearing a long robe in white and gold and holding a staff. His hair also grows a little bit. It doesn’t last much, but I figured it was worth mentioning it.
Back in Doctor Strange v5 #5 (2018), Stephen crafts the space suit, also known as kink suit: a black (and tight) suit with belts and white ornaments, Cloak of Levitation, Eye of Agamotto, jackboots and a golden checkered gauntlet on his right wrist. Hair is all pulled back.
From Doctor Strange v5 #10.
Lastly, Stephen is back to his classic outfit in a modern rereading within the pages of Dr. Strange - Surgeon Supreme #1 (2019): the “skirt” now has a V shape, the yellow sash is larger and a small belt with a bag crosses his waist transversely. It’s the standard for today’s comics.
From Black Cat v2 #1.
And this it! Lemme know if I missed anything and feel free to share your favorite! Mine is obviously the kink suit but I also adore the newest version.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
August 31st - The Wasp / Janet Van Dyne
Janet Van Dyne is an acclaimed fashion designer, noted socialite and the renown super hero known as the winsome Wasp.
As part of an effort to avenge the death of her father at the hands of an extra-dimensional villain, Van Dyne was exposed to the size-altering ‘Pym Particles’ and biologically altered by Dr. Hank Pym (the adventurer known as Ant-Man). Now calling herself ‘The Wasp,’ Van Dyne became Ant-Man’s crime-fighting partner, having the ability to shrink in size, fly with synthetic wings and fire energy stings. The pair would have many adventures together and went on to become founding members of The Mighty Avengers.
Van Dyne eventually married Pym, yet his ongoing difficulties with mental illness led to their separation and ultimate divorce. Janet flourished unburdened from her ex-husband’s struggles and she would go on to become chairperson and leader of The Avengers.
The Wasp appeared to have perished in the final battle of the Secret Invasion event, yet she was actually stranded in the micro verse. She was later rescued by her Avenger colleagues. She would go on to act as a member of the Uncanny Avengers Unity Squad and, more recently, has accepted a role as an Agent of Wakanda alongside her duties as an Avenger.
Following Hank Pym’s death, Janet has stepped in to act as a mentor and parental figure to Pym’s daughter from a previous relationship, Nadia.
A version of Janet Van Dyme features in the the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrayed by actress Michelle Pfeiffer. The heroine first appeared in the pages of Tales to Astonish #44 (1963).

Do you know the timeline of what pietro was doing so like early 60s x men villian turned avenger but at what point did he formally hop off the roster? I know he left in like the 70s or something and would periodically show up but when did he formally join again? And what was he doing during that time besides living with the inhumans, working with X factor and working with the knights of wundagore. I know about his whereabouts from 2000- currently, but it’s mostly the 80s and 90s I’m not sure on
Quicksilver, a Timeline of Major Events 60′s-90′s:
Uncanny X-Men (1963) #4 Pietro Maximoff and his twin sister Wanda join The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
Uncanny X-Men (1963) #11 Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch quit the The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and reject the X-Men's offer to join their team.
The Avengers (1963) #16 Pietro tells Wanda about the idea of them joining the Avengers.
The Avengers (1963) #47-53 After being kidnapped by Magneto, the Twins listen as he attempts to recruit them to the brotherhood once more, Pietro pretends to play along in order to thwart Magneto.
However Wanda’s temple is grazed by a bullet during an altercation with humans, unknowing that Magneto was the cause Pietro’s hatred towards the humans who hated him and his sister for being mutants and his shock/anger over Wanda’s injury he joins Magneto’s Brotherhood once more. Magneto wastes no time preying on Pietro’s emotional state and worry for his sister.
The Scarlet Witch, now powerless, along with Quicksilver and aided by Toad escape the clutches of Magneto, who was fighting the Avengers & the X-Men.
The Avengers (1963) #75-77 The Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver return! But are they friend or foe?
While they were gone the trio had been trying to find a way to help Wanda get her powers back and magical shenanigans happen.
Turns out Pietro needs help and he needs the Avengers! Listen Pietro is really worried about his sister all the time ok?
By issue #77 they are officially back with The Avengers!
The Avengers (1963) #104 Pietro is searching for his sister!
The Avengers leave him behind after the battle without thinking to check that he showed up or that he may be injured in need of help. Hello? Avengers? It’s Pietro. He definitely was there!
Avengers (1963) #110 Months have passed! Pietro has been missing, Wanda is worried and searching. Enter Crystal! The beginning of the one of the worst marriages in Marvel History!
Pietro & Crystal marry in The Fantastic Four (1961) #150.
Pietro bounces around books, Fantastic Four, Inhumans, and Avengers by the end of the 70s. Now we have Pietro being a bitch to Vision because he doesn’t like him and Moondragon mind rapes him into being ok with Vision & Wanda being married. (haha I hate it here) The Avengers (1963) #175-176
The Avengers (1963) #185-187 THE YESTERDAY QUEST! Pietro & Wanda origins! By the end of this confusing tale we know that Magda was their bio mother and their bio father is unknown. Django & Marya Maximoff are their adopted parents. For a better explanation of their origins read this.
Vision and the Scarlet Witch (1982) #4 The big reveal! Magneto is the Father of the Maximoff Twins!
We are now in the 80′s and during this time period Pietro was with the Inhumans. Luna is born! The Fantastic Four (1961) #240
Vision and The Scarlet Witch (1985) #10-11
*takes a drink and let’s out a long suffering sigh* Fuck You Englehart. Pietro is blamed for being neglectful of his wife so Crystal HAD AN AFFAIR WITH A BORING ASS HUMAN NAMED NORMAN.
shhhhhh Vision. It’s ok. Walk away, Pietro’s got this. No no it’s fine. Let him have some murder.
surprise surprise, Crystal and Norman will be fine but Black Bolt orders Pietro to get back together and forgive Crystal. Everyone: We know you just found out your wife cheated on you but you gotta move on and take her back. Pietro: what the fuck? are you all high??? I’m out! (And evil now!)
West Coast Avengers (1985) Annual 1 Pietro is done being a good guy, now he is evil! Honestly he deserves to tell the Avengers how he feels!
Anyways evil plots blah blah. Pietro bounces around different comics books again being a baddie. Gets captured by the Inhumans. Escapes again.
And now he monologues in West Coast Avengers (1985) #34
ISTG VISION I WILL DROP KICK YOU INTO A FUCKING VOLCANO! What the FUCK do you mean Pietro can’t love??? I’ll kill you bitch!
*coughs* anyways moving on. This era is kinda confusing because Pietro is just all over the place, so I just tried to streamline the timeline even if some comics came out before/after others in the time frame. From what I’ve read here’s what happens next:
X-Factor (1986) Annual 2 Turns out Pietro is EVIL this whole time because he was being mind controlled by Maximus the Mad. He is fighting the mind control while also kidnapping Franklin for Maximus.
After the fight is over and Maximus is defeated, Pietro rushes off to his hug his daughter, Luna
Fantastic Four (1961) Annual 21
Black Bolt tells Crystal to get back together with Pietro after Pietro helps them, after a (silent) speech about family, she leaves her feelings for Johnny behind (again) to be with Pietro. wow just the whole: all right Pietro! That’s their big get back together panel. I would be mad if it wasn’t so funny. LMAO. No one cares about Pietro and it showed in every bit of the writing.
Also can I just say I hated every single thing about the “Pietro is EVIL” plot, it was so fucking stupid and the cop out of him being mind controlled was obviously slapped on at the last minute to wrap things up. The writers spent YEARS tearing down Pietro’s character and they don’t even give him a good arc or anything. I love him remembering Luna but oh my god was this the most painful era of Quicksilver. I sincerely want to say FUCK YOU to the writers.
Nearing the end of the 80′s and moving on to the 90′s
Avengers West Coast (1989) #56-62 Look at this beautiful evil family!!! Everyone is evil now :D
This era is after Wanda lost her kids but Pietro wasn’t really evil just playing along so he could keep close to Wanda and save her. Anyways Wanda gets better and Pietro stays by her side to make sure she is ok. Pietro at this point isn’t on any official teams but hangs around/helps out West Coast Avengers.
NOW THE 90′S
Pietro enters the team in X-Factor (1986) #71 and stays on for a time. He and Crystal are working things out but you know how it is with Crystal (derogatory) now torn between her HUSBAND and the Black Knight (again). Like I’m just so tired of Crystal getting to cheat, have emotional affairs, and no one calls her out on it.
X-Factor (1989) #92 is the beginning of the Fatal Attractions storyline.
From here we have Fatal Attractions > Bloodties both events center around Magneto, Quicksilver, and Mutants. There is just so much here that it’s best I link you to this X-Men Timeline Reading Order. X , X , and the complete Quicksilver comic appearances, X I know it’s a lot but this post is long enough as it is!
Continuing, Quicksilver in Bloodties: Pietro wants to leave X-Factor to join Crystal on THE AVENGERS (1963) #368 but first they have to save Luna!
Pietro, Crystal, & Luna stick around with the Avengers until issue #395
After which, Crystal is thought to be dead after the Onslaught Event Pietro hangs around the X-Men but never officially joins their team X-Men (1963) #337
Pietro takes Luna to Wundagore where he raises her as a single dad with the help of his furry friends.
Quicksilver (1997)#2
Crystal comes back, she still can’t choose between Black Knight & Quicksilver so off she goes, back to the moon with their daughter. The 90′s are over and the next major events are in the 2000s with House of M. This is just a timeline of major plot points in Quicksilver’s history, there is a lot of little things I left out but this is the general gist of where he was and what he was doing in that time frame. As you can see the late 70s-80s were not the best Quicksilver content.
#pietro maximoff#quicksilver#scarlet witch#wanda maximoff#magnet family#magneto#erik lensherr#luna maximoff#crystal amaquelin#avengers#xmen#xfactor#imp answers#long post#comic meta#this took a few days bc i had to make sure of all the events in order bc comics are insane#thank you to my friends who listened to me rant about the 90s#im tired now lmao
