Snood
1780-1795
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
"A rare example of headwear from the 18th century, the large size of this snood reflects the sizable, sometimes extremely large, hairstyles worn during the period. The spectacular size also references the modes of the Incroyables and Merveilleuses, men and women who donned exaggerated styles during the years after the French Revolution. Although this snood is English, it demonstrates how closely English fashion followed French styles."

Hey, so you seem to be the the All Knowing in terms of twst. With Glorious Masquerade getting a rerun soon, I was looking at the cards.
So what the heck is up with Jamil's freaking hat? I'm sorry but I can't look at it without laughing. It looks so stupid. The closest thing I can think of that matches it is the combined crowns of upper and lower Egypt, but this is the equivalent of France so that can't be it.
While I’m flattered that people come to me with their questions, I want to take a moment to remind everyone that I’m just another TWST fan like you are! ^^ It’s stressful to be considered “all knowing” or a fandom authority 💦 That puts a lot of pressure on me to speak on certain subjects or to interact in a certain way (since people might put too much stock into what I say), and then that ends up detracting from my enjoyment. I’d rather not be put on such a high pedestal, please and thank you.
Now, onto the question!
According to Rollo in 1-13 of Glorious Masquerade, the costumes the NRC students were gifted are “patterned after designs that are over 500 years old.”
If we extrapolate this to real life, the implication is that these costumes have roots in Renaissance era (14th century to 17th century) French fashion. Interestingly, Rollo’s own hat is similar to a tricorne, which was primarily worn in the 18th century… so technically, his hat is more “modern” than what the NRC students wear 😂
So I browsed through records of hats from the indicated period and guess what? I couldn’t find an exact match—though I did find a lot of hat designs that I found way sillier than what the NRC boys have. Like… sorry, what is THAT 😭
Some headwear which bears a vague similarity to Jamil’s hat are the Egyptian combined/double crown (the pschent), which Anon has already mentioned, and the French hood, which was worn by women in the 15th century.
The actual closest match I came across was the mitre, a liturgical headdresses worn by Roman Catholic officials. If you look at it from the front, it doesn’t look like much, but it definitely has the height of Jamil’s hat. But then look closer and you’ll realize the mitre does not have one single flap of fabric, but rather two.
If you take the front flap of a mitre and fold it back, you would probably get something very similar to what Jamil wears. (Note that the black part of the hat is NOT his hair, but is fabric that is part of the hat.)
Considering that Noble Bell College is styled like a cathedral and that the Renaissance era from which the Masquerade Dress clothing derives is characterized by the rediscovery of classical literature, art, and philosophy… perhaps it’s not so strange to see a hat borne of religious associations.
… Why did Jamil specifically get this hat? Not sure, I’m not religious myself so don’t ask me to psychoanalyze him from that angle 😂
The golden part securing the front is unusual and does not appear in French fashion of the time (at least not from what I could tell?). It’s styled like pschent but more likely is meant to be turban-like due to Jamil’s inspiration, Jafar, having the same feather sticking up in the middle of a bulbous hat. You’ll notice Jamil had a “feather” too, albeit metal:
To summarize, I think the design of Masquerade Dress Jamil’s hat borrows from multiple inspirations and not just one/old French fashion. Yana has stated before in a March 2023 interview with the Apple App Store that the cultures of Twisted Wonderland are unique and that the clothing that appears in the game are not “reinterpretations of existing costumes”. She seems to incorporate elements from both high fashion and from a variety of cultures to arrive at the final designs. For example, there are elements of many Nordic cultures in the Apple Pom outfits, and the Pomefiore uniform has a Japanese kimono-like silhouette despite the dorm being based on the the Evil Queen (originating from a German tale). I assume something similar happened when designing the Masquerade Dresses; Yana and co. wanted to combine elements and make something of their own.
Final comment I'll make, the shape of Jamil's hat looks like a kind of dumpling... It makes me hungry.

the 11th set ! 😀
I'm back ! My god it's been so long, I blame college. Good thing I have something to show to make up for it. This time, it's more on the McDuck ancestors with some others. 😊
As usual, if you are unfamiliar with any of the faces, just keep reading 👌.
For this set, we have :
1.) Sir Slye McDuck(1st-2nd century) - ancestor of Scrooge McDuck. A sneaky medieval member of the Clan McDuck, Sir Slye MacDuich assisted King Malcolm II in 1018 in his conquest of the Angles as a spy.
2.) Sir Murdoch McDuck(11th century) - ancestor of Scrooge McDuck. For unclear reasons, Sir Murdoch held the local patent on longbows at the time. Thus, in 1066, when England was invaded by the Normans, the English Army signed a contract with Sir Murdoch McDuck so he could supply them with longbows not knowing that the arrows cost extra.
3.) Don De Pato(16th century) - an ancestor of Scrooge. McDuck. His Spanish ancestor who was in command of a treasure galleon covered in gold foil which he called "La Dorada". Later, he left the Spanish Armada in 1588. He was featured in "The Golden Galleon" illustrated by Tony Strobl.
4.) Frederico Von Pato - an uncle of Ludwig Von Drake. First featured in the totally contradictory "History of Duckburg" series. A friend to Gyro's grandfather Prof. Pardalto. Appeared in two stories with both being illustrated by Brazilian artist, Irineu Soares Rodrigues. He was given the unofficial English name "Friedrich Von Drake" by Gilles Maurice.
5.) Locksley Mcduck(18th century) - an ancestor of Scrooge. In around the 1700's, Locksley McDuck, decided to join rebelling outlaw Rob Roy to battle evil landlords such as Rob Roy. The partnership was, however, short-lived, for once they had robbed the rich, Locksley refused to conform to the proper Robin Hood tradition and give to the poor. His design here is based on an unknown ancestral ghost of Scrooge McDuck featured in Don Rosa's "The New Laird of Castle McDuck".
6.) Sir Donald Mcduck(15th century) - an ancestor of Scrooge. He was nicknamed "Black Donald" due to his foul temper. In 1440, Sir Donald invented golf, a sport that quickly caught on among the Scottish nobles. However, due to his temper which resulted in violent tantrums, King James II outlawed the sport in 1457.
7.) Upsy Duck - an uncle of Donald Duck. The peak of his career was becoming the first man to climb to the top of Mount Stratoshaft, in Switzerland. Unfortunately, while he was standing on top of the mountain, the wind caught his hat and carried it to the top of a small ice hill called the "Matterthorn" down in the valley. Upsy, due to the ice's slipperiness, was unable to climb to the top of the Matterthorn to retrieve his headwear, and he was disgraced. He was featured in a 1965 story "Mastering the Matterthorn" illustrated by Tony Strobl.
8.) Swashbuckle Duck - a great-uncle of Donald Duck. A big-game hunter, whose personality was transferred to Scrooge via a portrait as shown in the story "Outer Space Safari", illustrated by Tony Strobl.
• Characters such as Sir Slye McDuck, Sir Murdoch McDuck, Locksley McDuck, and Sir Donald McDuck are all creations of Don Rosa and were featured in the sketch-only prologue "The History of the Clan McDuck".
• Don De Pato would later be introduced in the animated show "Legend of The Three Caballeros" using the German name, Don Dugo. Although there is a big difference. In the original comic, he was only related to Scrooge McDuck but in the animated show, that relation was not shown and instead, he was an ancestor to Donald Duck through to his great-grandfather Clinton Coot.
Note : The portraits here may be changed a bit anytime which means that the portraits here are not the final version. If there's anything wrong here, lemme know 😁

I looove how in the late 18th century the three main types of headwear for men were like wigs, tricorn hats (both of which read sooooo alien and antiquated and vampire times to a modern viewer) and then those fucking, beanies. That I could go outside in right now and not get one single second glance

2025 Goals
January 2, 2025
2025? That's not a real year! Except it is now.
Barring the total collapse of the US as we know it, here are my sewing (and sewing-adjacent) goals for this year.
Goal 1: Stashbusting
You know her! You love her! You're bad at her! She's stashbusting!
I've got fabric for 1890s dress padding. I've got a lot of lingerie fabric. I think I still have enough linen for some medieval headwear. I've got upholstery fabric that would make cute decorative pillow covers (and maybe a curtain panel?). I've got to get through this stuff.
I should also go through my sewing patterns and clear out anything I don't expect to use. I don't need to collect them.
Goal 2: Dyeing
I have a few things I want to dye and I have the dye to do it.
My two medieval t-tunics will be getting dyed different colors, along with the leftover fabric from those (NYE Alex here - I actually dyed one of the tunics just after Christmas! It turned out a lovely orange brown shade). I have a pair of corduroy pants that I want to be more of a neutral-to-orange brown and less of a purple brown.
If I'm really crazy, I'll disassemble my green Regency dress, hit it with dye remover, and re-dye it brown. I have big plans for that dress.
Goal 3: SCA Stuff
This is where "sewing-adjacent" comes into play. I mean, yes, I do still want to work on medieval veils, or a barbette and fillet, or an apron. Oh, and I need to finish my coif. But I also want to register a name!
I've been going for almost two years, I ought to have a name. Then maybe next year I can register a device?
I already have two local SCA events on my calendar for this year, one of which is later this month. I'd love to have one of my tunics dyed then! Probably I'll prioritize dyeing the pink one a tawny orange so I can wear it with my yellow cyclas. (NYE Alex again - it is indeed dyed, if slightly more brown and less orange that I intended. It'll still look good with the yellow cyclas, though!)
The second event is in the summer, so I might just wear my Greco-Roman stuff for that one.
Goal 4: Ren Faire Stuff
Ok, this is not the low-bar, easy to accomplish, vague goal I meant to set, but I want to get some somewhat-vaguely-historical ren faire pieces done this year.
I have that one lace-up bodice pattern everyone and their uncle owns and plenty of stash fabric. I can easily thrift a sheet to make a skirt/petticoat from. I could get linen and make an 18th century shirt or an Italian Renaissance camica. There are options.
Goal 5: Something 1890s
How's that for vague?
I have a corset and combinations already. Bust and bum padding should be next, and should not be difficult.
Goal 6: One Big Project
Ok, this one is definitely not vague, but I want to sew one dress this year and I've got two options.
Option One is McCalls 8507, which is nearly identical to a Target dress I obsessed over two springs ago, but the sleeves were weird so I never bought it. I have the pattern, but I'd have to buy fabric and elastic. This could be nice to wear to my friend's wedding in the spring!
Option Two is McCalls 8177, a princess-seamed fit and flare dress that would also be cute as a wedding guest dress. I would also need to buy fabric for this option.
Of course, if I made an 18th century shirt or an Italian Renaissance camica for the ren faire, I would be willing to accept that as my "big project."
Ok, ok, I should stop setting goals now. We'll see what the year brings us! (Please be good things, please be good things, please be good things...)
Stay warm. Stay safe. Stay healthy.

Graduation Caps Through the Ages: A Look at Tradition and Style
The graduation cap, often called the mortarboard, is one of the most recognizable symbols of academic achievement. Worn with pride by graduates worldwide, these caps have a rich history that reflects both academic tradition and individual style. As graduates in Dubai prepare for their big day, many are not only celebrating their accomplishments but also tapping into a centuries-old tradition of headwear that continues to evolve in style and significance. At Gradrags, we offer a variety of high-quality options for those searching for the perfect graduation caps in Dubai that honor tradition while embracing modern trends.
The Origins of the Graduation Cap
The origins of the graduation cap trace back to medieval Europe, when scholars and clergy wore head coverings as a symbol of wisdom and intellectual achievement. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the first caps were simple hoods or hats, designed to keep scholars warm in unheated buildings. Over time, academic dress evolved, and in the 16th century, the square cap began to take shape, inspired by the biretta, a traditional cap worn by Roman Catholic clergy.
The square cap, often called the mortarboard, became popular in the 18th century and has remained a symbol of academic honor ever since. The design, combining functionality and elegance, has since been adopted by universities worldwide, including those in Dubai, where graduation caps in Dubai reflect the region’s unique blend of traditional and contemporary styles.
The Symbolism of the Mortarboard
The mortarboard’s distinctive shape symbolizes intellectual achievement and the hard work required to earn an academic degree. The square top is thought to represent the mortar board used by masons, symbolizing the strong foundation of knowledge. The tassel, often the most customizable part of the cap, represents academic growth and progress. In many ceremonies, graduates are instructed to move their tassels from the right side to the left, signifying the transition from student to graduate.
Graduation Caps Around the World
While the traditional mortarboard is widely recognized, various regions and academic institutions have developed unique styles for graduation caps:
United States and Europe: The classic mortarboard with a tassel is the standard, though universities often allow graduates to decorate their caps with personal messages, symbols, and artwork.
Middle East and Asia: In some regions, such as Dubai, graduation caps in Dubai have become more popular as universities adopt Western graduation styles. However, local culture is often incorporated through colors and decorations.
United Kingdom: Some universities, particularly older institutions like Oxford and Cambridge, use caps called “bonnets” or “academic caps,” which are rounder and softer, providing a more historical look.
Latin America: Some universities in Latin America embrace alternative styles, allowing students to showcase their individuality, while still respecting the traditional academic dress code.
The Evolution of Graduation Cap Styles
While the mortarboard remains the classic choice, many institutions today allow graduates to personalize their caps. Here’s a look at some evolving trends:
Decorative Caps: Decorating graduation caps with meaningful quotes, artwork, or symbols has become popular, especially in places like Dubai. Students often use this as an opportunity to showcase their individuality, family pride, or academic journey.
Tassel Customization: Graduates can now choose tassel colors or even charm additions that signify their specific field of study, accomplishments, or future goals. This trend has grown in popularity as students look for ways to distinguish their caps.
Sustainable Cap Materials: As sustainability becomes a growing concern, many manufacturers, including Gradrags, offer eco-friendly graduation caps in Dubai that are made from recycled materials, providing a greener alternative for conscious graduates.
Cultural Embellishments: In Dubai, where cultural heritage is important, many graduates incorporate symbols or colors from their background into their caps, blending local tradition with academic achievement.
Why Graduation Caps Still Matter Today
Graduation caps are more than just a piece of clothing; they represent years of dedication and achievement. For students in Dubai and worldwide, putting on a graduation cap is a rite of passage that signifies their journey, struggles, and success. As much as graduation caps may seem like a simple tradition, their symbolic power cannot be understated. This significance explains why so many students and families take care to choose quality caps that suit their occasion perfectly.
At Gradrags, we’re honored to provide graduation caps in Dubai that reflect both tradition and modern preferences, meeting the needs of today’s graduates while honoring the history of the cap itself. We understand that every student’s journey is unique, and we offer various styles, materials, and options to suit a diverse range of tastes and preferences.
Choosing the Right Graduation Cap in Dubai
When selecting a graduation cap, there are several factors to consider to ensure the cap fits the occasion and the individual:
Comfort and Fit: Look for caps that fit snugly without being too tight, allowing the graduate to wear it comfortably throughout the ceremony.
Style and Material: With options ranging from traditional to eco-friendly, choosing the material and style that best represents your personality and values is key.
Customization Options: Many students now opt for a personalized touch, from embroidered initials to unique tassel colors. Gradrags offers options for those looking to add personal details.
Durability: For students who want a cap that lasts as a memento, selecting one with high-quality material and craftsmanship is essential.
Final Thoughts on Graduation Caps and Tradition
As graduates in Dubai prepare for their ceremonies, the significance of the graduation cap remains as strong as ever. Whether choosing a classic mortarboard or a cap with custom details, the act of wearing a graduation cap reflects both individual achievement and a centuries-old academic tradition. Gradrags is proud to be a part of this journey by providing quality graduation caps in Dubai that embody the history, style, and significance of this cherished tradition.
Graduation is a momentous occasion, and a well-chosen cap can enhance that experience, making it a day to remember for years to come.

The Evolution of Men's Caps: From Function to Fashion
Men's caps have been an integral part of fashion and functionality for centuries. They have transitioned from practical headgear to stylish accessories that reflect personal style and cultural trends. This article explores the fascinating evolution of men's caps, tracing their journey from functional headwear to fashion statements.
The Origins of Men's Caps
1. Early Beginnings
The history of men's caps dates back to ancient civilizations, where headgear served primarily practical purposes. In ancient Egypt, for instance, workers and soldiers wore simple cloth caps to protect themselves from the sun. Similarly, in ancient Greece and Rome, caps were used to denote social status and provide protection during various activities.
2. Medieval and Renaissance Periods
During the medieval period, caps evolved to include more structure and style. The hood-like chaperon was popular among men, offering both warmth and a distinctive look. By the Renaissance, caps had become more elaborate, with the introduction of the flat cap, known as the "captain," which was often adorned with feathers and jewels to signify wealth and status.
The 18th and 19th Centuries: Caps in the Industrial Age
1. The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution brought significant changes to men's headwear. The need for practical and durable headgear for working-class men led to the widespread use of the flat cap. This simple, woollen cap provided warmth and comfort for factory workers and labourers, becoming a staple of the working man's wardrobe.
2. The Rise of the Bowler Hat
In the mid-19th century, the bowler hat emerged as a fashionable alternative to the top hat. Created by London hat-makers Thomas and William Bowler, this hard-felt hat offered a balance of style and practicality. It became popular among the middle and upper classes, symbolizing respectability and social status.
The 20th Century: Caps as Fashion Statements
1. The Baseball Cap
The early 20th century saw the rise of the baseball cap, which has since become one of the most iconic forms of headwear. Originally designed for baseball players to shield their eyes from the sun, the cap featured a rounded crown and a stiff brim. Over time, it transcended its sports origins and became a casual, everyday accessory for men of all ages.
2. The Newsboy Cap
The newsboy cap, also known as the flat cap or driving cap, gained popularity in the early 20th century. Its association with newspaper boys and working-class men made it a symbol of rugged charm and practicality. The cap's distinctive eight-panel design and button on top added to its timeless appeal.
3. The Military Influence
World War I and World War II had a significant impact on men's fashion, including headwear. The military's influence introduced new styles such as the beret, peaked cap, and garrison cap. These caps, designed for functionality and uniformity, found their way into civilian fashion, further blending practicality with style.
The Late 20th Century to Present: Modern Trends and Cultural Impact
1. The Hip-Hop Influence
The 1980s and 1990s witnessed the rise of hip-hop culture, which had a profound impact on men's fashion, including caps. Snapback caps, characterized by their adjustable plastic strap, became a symbol of urban style. Brands like New Era and Starter capitalized on this trend, producing caps that featured sports team logos and bold designs.
2. The Rise of Streetwear
The late 20th century also saw the emergence of streetwear, a fashion movement that blurred the lines between casual and high-end fashion. Caps became essential accessories in streetwear culture, with brands like Supreme, Stüssy, and Off-White incorporating them into their collections. The cap's versatility and ability to convey individual style made it a staple in modern wardrobes.
3. Sustainable and Ethical Fashion
In recent years, the fashion industry has seen a shift towards sustainability and ethical practices. This trend has influenced the production of men's caps as well. Brands are increasingly using eco-friendly materials and ethical manufacturing processes to create stylish caps that align with consumers' growing environmental consciousness.
Types of Men's Caps and Their Modern Appeal
Baseball Cap The baseball cap remains a timeless classic, worn by men across various age groups and styles. Its adaptability and comfort make it suitable for casual outings, sports activities, and even as part of athleisure fashion.
Trucker Cap The trucker cap, characterized by its mesh back and foam front, has gained popularity in recent years. It offers a retro aesthetic and is often used for promotional purposes by brands and businesses.
Snapback Cap The snapback cap's adjustable strap and structured design make it a favourite among fashion-forward individuals. It allows for customization and fits various head sizes, making it a versatile accessory.
Dad Hat The dad hat, known for its unstructured and slightly curved brim, has become a trendy option for a laid-back look. Its simplicity and comfort have made it a popular choice for everyday wear.
Flat Cap The flat cap, with its vintage charm, has experienced a resurgence in popularity. It is often associated with a classic, sophisticated style and is frequently worn with tailored outfits.

Styling Men's Caps: Tips and Trends
1. Casual Look
For a casual look, pair a baseball cap or dad hat with jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. This combination offers a relaxed and effortlessly stylish appearance.
2. Sporty Look
To achieve a sporty look, opt for a snapback cap or trucker cap. Pair it with athleisure wear, such as joggers, a hoodie, and athletic shoes.
3. Classic Look
For a classic and refined look, choose a flat cap. Pair it with a button-down shirt, chinos, and loafers. This combination exudes timeless elegance.
4. Streetwear Look
To embrace the streetwear trend, go for a snapback cap or a cap from a popular streetwear brand. Combine it with oversized hoodies, ripped jeans, and statement sneakers.
Conclusion
The evolution of men's caps from function to fashion is a testament to their enduring appeal and versatility. From ancient civilizations to modern streetwear culture, caps, including those from a leading cap company in the UAE, have adapted to changing trends and societal needs. Today, they are practical accessories and powerful fashion statements that reflect individual style and cultural influences. Additionally, just as with sports jersey, caps have become symbols of team spirit and athletic culture, further cementing their place in contemporary wardrobes.
Sports jersey, much like caps, have transcended their original purpose. Once solely worn by athletes during games, they are now embraced by fans and fashion enthusiasts alike, symbolizing allegiance, pride, and a sense of community. This crossover from sports fields to everyday fashion showcases the versatility and cultural significance of these items.
As men's fashion continues to evolve, caps from the cap company in the UAE will undoubtedly remain a crucial element, blending tradition with contemporary flair. They will continue to serve not only as practical accessories but also as dynamic fashion statements and emblems of personal and collective identity. With innovative designs and high-quality materials, these caps will cater to a wide range of tastes and preferences, ensuring their place in the fashion landscape for years to come. Similarly, sports jersey will maintain their dual role, offering both functional athletic wear and a canvas for expressing individuality and team loyalty. Revolution of Handmade Straw Hats From Traditional to Contemporary Designs
Did you Know Hats have been a timeless and essential accessory in fashion for centuries. They not only serve as a practical shield from the sun's scorching rays but also add an extra layer of style to your outfit. Among the diverse array of hat materials, straw stands out as a classic and versatile choice. Straw hats offer a beautiful blend of tradition and innovation, making them a fashion statement that transcends time. Let's explore the fascinating journey of handmade straw hats.
The Roots of Straw Hats
Straw hats have a rich history that spans continents and cultures. The tradition of weaving straw into hats dates back to ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians and the Greeks. In the Philippines, the salakot, a traditional conical hat made of bamboo or palm leaves, has been worn for centuries. In Europe, straw hats became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, especially during the summer months, when lightweight and breathable headwear was a must.
Traditional Straw Hat Styles
One of the most iconic traditional straw hat styles is the Panama hat, which is ironically not from Panama but rather from Ecuador. These hats are handwoven from the straw of the toquilla palm plant and are known for their lightweight and flexible nature. They were made famous when worn by workers on the Panama Canal, and the name stuck. Another traditional style is the boater hat, characterized by its flat crown and brim, often adorned with a ribbon. These hats are synonymous with summertime elegance.
Art of Handmade Straw Hats Making
The art of crafting straw hats by hand is a labor-intensive and intricate process. The straw is carefully harvested and dried before skilled artisans begin the weaving process. Each hat is a testament to the weaver's craftsmanship, as the straw is meticulously shaped into the desired style. This traditional method of hat-making has been passed down through generations, preserving not only the hats themselves but also the skills and culture of the craft.
Contemporary Designs
While traditional straw hat styles remain popular, the world of fashion is constantly evolving. Contemporary designers have embraced straw as a versatile medium, leading to an exciting fusion of tradition and innovation. Today, you can find straw hats in a wide range of designs, from oversized sun hats to bohemian-inspired fedoras. These hats incorporate unique embellishments, colorful dyes, and even mixed-media elements to cater to modern tastes while paying homage to their straw-weaving roots.
Sustainability and Ethical Fashion
Handmade straw hats are also gaining recognition for their sustainability. With a growing emphasis on eco-friendly and ethical fashion, straw hats have become a symbol of conscious consumerism. The use of natural and renewable materials in their production aligns with the principles of sustainability, making them a responsible choice for those looking to reduce their fashion footprint.
Wearing Straw Hats Today
Straw hats have transcended their traditional roles and have become a symbol of leisure, relaxation, and style. Whether you're lounging by the beach, strolling through a summer market, or attending a music festival, there's a straw hat for every occasion. They are the perfect blend of functionality and fashion.
As you explore the world of handmade straw hats, you'll discover a wide range of options to suit your individual style. From the classic elegance of traditional designs to the creativity of contemporary variations, these hats have proven that they can withstand the test of time.
So, the next time you step out into the sun or simply want to elevate your outfit, consider donning a handmade straw hat. It's not just a piece of fashion; it's a tangible link to history, craftsmanship, and the ever-evolving world of style. With a straw hat on your head, you're not just wearing an accessory; you're wearing a piece of art, tradition, and sustainability.

The 'What's M-P Been Up To’ Costuming Post...
Uh... otherwise known as the big, huge, “sorry the new fic chapter won’t be posted until next week” post. I have no excuses other than the sewing bug bit me and I’ve been ignoring my writing responsibilities in favour of making ‘ALL the pretty things’.
I finished the blue and silver silk jacket and the stomacher, and used my scraps to make a frou-frou neck ruffle and ribbon to make it just a little more formal...
This was really just a useful way of using up snippets, but it was quick and easy fun to make! It also means I can dress the jacket up or down, depending on whether it’s a Versailles ball or a relaxed promenade. I have another stomacher in the works using cream silk with blue trim, to mix up the look a little.
I also took the opportunity to also a) restyle my trusty 18th century wig...
and b) dress it up by making a lace pinner cap with detachable lappets following the pattern in the American Duchess Hair and Beauty book. It made up rather nicely, if I say so myself - I had some odds and ends of vintage lace I’d been saving to get a rich, authentic look...
So, er...sincere apologies to the people who are wondering when the heck I’ll update on the fic front. I’ll get on that and take a break from the madcap crafting shenanigans!

@vinceaddams It is pretty comfy! I used a velvet ribbon as a base for the whole necklace and I just tied it on the back. It’s pretty much the same as a string of pearls tied with ribbon, but lighter :)
Oh that weird little… hat? Thing? I don’t even know what is going on there BUT it is certainly charming! Very birthday-like:
You go, girl.
