Beth heads to Sylvan Glade to go fishing for some rare fish (thought I'd see how much they were worth) and she manages to catch a seed gem! Which of course was planted straight away!

The night went well, they hung out, grabbed a few to knock back, ate good food, and then ended the night back at his place.

Stargazing.

How many times has he done this by myself. Too many to count and too many to remember. The background noise of their family made Nihilistic silently wonder what it would have been like to have his own, but he quickly pushed it away as he felt C-167 stirring next to them, he turned to meet their gaze.

Lavender eyes meeting blue hues. The bluest hues of them all.

What followed next, was something he did not see coming despite the evening they had just shared. His head turned to the side, listening to them talking, he wasn't sure if it was the alcohol or whatever drug they had ingested, but those blue hues held a tint of sadness. Or was that his imagination. The words had taken a moment to settle in, and once absorbed, he sat up.

"You're really saying this to me. I thought we' were passed " complicated"." Those last words sounded like vile being spat out. "We" there was no we between them, yet he thought there was. "What the fuck are we doing then Rick? Because if you just wanted to fuck around, you should have said something earlier and I would've gladly been a one-night stand."

It's true. He wouldn't have mind. It wouldn't be the first time he let someone treat him as such and parted ways. He couldn't help it if he liked hanging around the older Rick and his family. He liked being around them and that was something rare.

Nihilistic never liked being around people, or meeting others, he could hardly stand himself sometimes. "I'm outta here. Tell Beth dinner was great." Not even giving them a glance, he took his portal gun out and exited that place. Only to land inside his own home, where there was no laughter, no chatter, no dinner at the table, or stars to gaze at.

Just an empty home and all its nice furnishings.

a young daughter , a little rose to complete the vision that her mother had dreamt of . little calla spent her days running through the gardens , chasing after her older siblings with her much shorter legs and squealing in glee once they plucked her up into their arms . sheltered , and wholly doted upon , the youngest of the allyrion children was not privy to much of the whispers that her mother dealt in — dark eyes occasionally peeking out from the pages of thick tomes , always with a smile , always with a warm bout of laughter . she knew no hardship , it was evident , and her heart remains full of love that would continue to spill over . her mother had use for them all — little calla had her place in their household , and it is to keep quiet and pretty , and distinctly out of the way until she was to be sold off to the highest bidder .

however , the lack of hardship and the pretty stories that had filled her head had made her brave . . . to a fault . she leaps without looking , and runs without care , words always spoken with passion and heart — nothing is ever half - meant . calla speaks with the conviction of someone who had lived a thousand lives despite barely having one of her own , adopting the adventures and feelings written upon the page by strangers into her heart and mind . she studies with rapt attention , always , enriching her mind within the gilded gates of the beautiful garden of her mind . it will one day matter , she thinks , and until that day she will continue in her quest .

but it had all gone wrong .

finally , she was old enough to see the flicker of change in her mother's expression once her eldest brother entered the room . she was quiet and perceptive enough to realise just what it had meant when he disappeared to go off on adventures and the rest of them were kept under lock and key . still , one could not grow out of naivety without hardship —  and calla had little to none ! she believed in her mother implicitly and loved her all the same . the way she loved her eldest brother and the late father they shared .

in the last gasps of girlhood , she remembered trystane coming thundering down the halls of their home after a long journey — decidedly without his usual jovial smile and astonishing stories of his adventures . it had made her pout after him , only to be thrown into her rooms without further explanation . everything started to crumble before it crashed in a whirlwind . her mother was swiftly executed by her brother's hand and the calls for the rest of her children to join her grew stronger with every passing day . calla fell terrified of her eldest brother despite of how much she still loved him —  she was at his vengeful mercy .

so she did what she does best . for seven years after her mother's death , calla stayed out of the way —  refusing to take sides between her siblings and proclaimed her loyalty to them all without fail . she delved deeper into her books , courageous only her mind . there was no telling where her life might lead now as trystane held the helm , the last vestiges of her courage had withered away once confronted with a chance to converse with her brother in any meaningful way .

older now , although not necessarily wiser , she must quickly realise that perhaps cowering in fear would do her no favours . calla must make a choice : to find comfort in the last family she had left or venture away from the gilded fences of her home , at long last .

Eurovision 2003: The Scoreboard

The one thing this year that isn't made out of modelling clay is the scoreboard. It's yellow and green, yes, but the lines are rigid and there are no flowers anywhere to be seen. It's less curvy that 2002 even though it's ensconced in the sweep of a huge yellow arch.

When we are introduced to the spokespersons, the clay and the flowers return. The contrast between the soft, non-computer generated graphics - even in 2003 highly unusual - and the spreadsheet of the scoreboard is incongruous. The colour are drawn from a different palate. It feels like trying to animated the scoreboard was a step too far and they had to go with plan B. Somewhere in the archives of LTV I'm sure there's a proof-of-concept tape with a fully clay animated scoreboard somewhere.

2003 Spoilers below - watch out if you haven't seen it and I really recommend watching this one...

2003 is one of the all-time classic voting sequences. It's enhanced by the investment of the entire watching audience specifically wanting one of the songs not to win. Belgium, Türkiye and Russia go head to head, swapping positions at the top of the scoreboard over the course of the vote. Every time Russia get points, there are boos and cheers for the other two. Another delightful wrinkle is that the two other countries would have been relegated this year if the EBU had stuck to their initial decisions.

With two countries left, Türkiye are in third on 149 points, Russia on 150 points with Belgium having their lead eroded but still 12 points clear on 162. Technically any of those three can still do it.

Then Sweden blank Belgium. And then they only give Russia 2. Türkiye get 8. Türkiye move up to second, five points behind, Russia are ten points behind, seeing their chances recede.

Slovenia are the last country giving points and the tension builds throughout the poorly time cringe of Slovenia's spokesperson Peter Poles's jokey disappearance from the screen. When he returns to deliver the points, he kills off Russia's chance almost immediately by giving Belgium three points. But Türkiye can still do it and the crowds murmuring audibly increases as he approaches the bigger points. When Peter announces that Slovenia give Türkiye ten points and thus confirm the shock come from behind victory by two points for Türkiye, no one notices that they give Russia 12 and thus they're only a single point behind Belgium in third.

All of this is heightened by having the entire green room not only fully in view of the cameras but in front of the whole audience in the Skonto Hall. It's truly one of the best scoring sequences ever. Unless you're Belgian.

Or from the UK. Famously, this is the contest when not only do the UK finish last for the first time ever, but also end up with that rarest of scores, zero points. As their are 26 entries for the first time, the UK are now the only country to have ever finished as low as 26th in the Eurovision Song Contest. This results shock the whole UK so badly that it took two decades for the country to come to terms with it.

The last note is that two separate point ties this year, one for 8th place between Iceland and Spain and one for 11th place between Ireland and Germany.

Despite his plan to keep Nihilistic at arms length, he had failed astronomically because the man was at his side again. Although nothing was going on aside from their faces being turned upward to the inky black sky above, staring at the stars above... He couldn't help but feel like something shouldn't be happening here. Like they shouldn't be doing this. Like it might end horribly if he dared to step any deeper. He just couldn't shake Nihilistic. Couldn't get him to understand that he wasn't good for anyone. Not Diane, not Morty, not Beth, not even himself. Everything was off-kilter just enough to make him angry at the world—at Diane despite her being unable to return home not being her fault at all, at Morty for existing, at Beth for staying with a certified sociopath, at Prime for trying and failing to kill Diane all those years ago.

Blue eyes open suddenly (as he hadn't realized he'd closed them) to stare up at the sky, arms folded behind his head, at Orion's Belt specifically. Feeling particularly melancholy, Rick swallowed the self-hate as best he could. It tasted like sick grief and despair. Anger often lead to despair and pity, because that was what he was full of. There was nothing but pitch-blackness in his head, in his soul, and he couldn't get rid of it, no matter how hard, how desperately he tried. All he could do was dull and numb the pain with alcohol and weed and sex.

But sometimes, even that didn't help.

No longer willing to look at the stars twinkling above, his face turned cheek resting against the cold, hard stucco tile of Beth's roof, blues looking blankly toward Nihilistic for the first time in several hours since the other man had text him with the offer of stargazing. Distantly, he could hear the sounds of the family in the backyard, gleefully looking up at the very same constellations with a telescope. Whatever made them happy. "You could do better than someone like me. There's plenty of Ricks in the multiverse." Unlike any other time he spoke (to just about anyone outside of Beth and Diane), his voice was soft and... almost vulnerable. Not at all like how he normally sounded. There were moments of humanness, of emotion, even for him.

Apparently this was one of those times.

Personality:

Easily annoyed by her blindness, Saika is the type of person to easily be underestimated by someone if they weren't aware of what kind of hobby she participates in.

And even then, she's underestimated by her peers who are also well versed in the art of the sword.

To Saika, she appreciates the compassion her friends Roya and Azure give her. But at the same time, she's known for being a bit too stubborn to even admit that.

Hell, she's also very oblivious to her own flaws.

On the battlefield, Saika is almost unbeatable. At least to her peers she is. Her movements are swift but aggressive, with enough force to send someone flying across a stadium. It's actually really fucking scary to witness.

She's ambitious, but she's "a little too ambitious". As said by Ambrose. He's willing to let Saika's stubbornness and harsh words slide, but at the same time… He's also willing to threaten her with expulsion if it means she'll behave properly.

Growing up… Saika didn't really have the ideal family life. Her life would be far from similar in comparison to the sitcoms people used to watch.

Her father was a member of the bureau of the kingdom of prophecy. Because of his many accomplishments, he was given the opportunity to meet the imperial family. So naturally, he brought Saika with him. As well as her two younger twin sisters.

And honestly that alone could very well be his best decision.

When Roya met Saika when they were younger, it was an instant friendship. And possibly, Roya may or may not be wishing for something more with Saika…

However, that is merely speculation on the part of everyone else… Right?

She doesn't really mind that he calls her ability that since they don't talk much anyway

Saika is the type of person to be bitter when needing assistance, often insisting that she can do things on her own to try and prove that blind people aren't weak.

And while that's admirable, she takes that approach a little too seriously.

This ability allows Saika to summon a literal knight in shining armor that follows them around and assists them with anything. I think you can tell that's why Zen calls it her version of a service dog.

The knight does not have a physical body behind all that armor, and any attempts to unmask it will just lead to them poofing into thin air. Which isn't an issue for Saika since she can just resummon them.

But surprisingly, Saika barely loses any of her magical energy no matter how long this ability lasts. And the minor headaches can easily be soothed by tea.
