Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (6 March 1475 – 18 February 1564), known mononymously as Michelangelo, was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect, and poet of the High Renaissance.
Michelangelo's creative abilities and mastery in a range of artistic arenas define him as an archetypal Renaissance man, along with his rival and elder contemporary, Leonardo da Vinci.
Given the sheer volume of surviving correspondence, sketches, and reminiscences, Michelangelo is one of the best-documented artists of the 16th century.
He was lauded by contemporary biographers as the most accomplished artist of his era.

Known as Sir Anthony Blunt KCVO, from 1956 to 1979 was a leading British art historian. Blunt was a professor of art history at the University of London, the director of the Courtauld Institute of Art and Surveyor of the Queen's Pictures.
With the invasion of Poland by German and Soviet forces Blunt joined the British Army in 1939. During the Phoney War he served in France in the Intelligence Corps. When the Wehrmacht drove British forces back to Dunkirk in May 1940 he was part of the Dunkirk evacuation.  Blunt's role as a Soviet spy was known long before his public exposure according to MI5 papers released in 2002, Moura Budberg, adventuress and suspected double agent reported in 1950 that Blunt was a member of the Communist Party but this was ignored
