Broken Prayers by withthekeyisking ❤️ [sam/chuck, E]
Sam is someone who prayed all his life. He always believed in God, always had faith, even if Dad and Dean sneered at the concept. He just never in a million years ever thought he would actually meet God, not even after meeting all His angels.
And he never imagined meeting God would go like this. [11x21, sam + faith]

Sam Winchester purifies his blood. It may be a pointless exercise; the problem has never been what he's done, but what he is. [8x23]
Bunk(er) Buddy by withthekeyisking [sam &/ lucifer, M] ❤️
It took Sam a long time to feel like the bunker was home, and now it's ruined. Because Lucifer, the person responsible for the nightmares that still wake Sam up screaming, is not only living in it, but living in his room. [11x22]
growing pains by apex__predator [wincest, E]
The way it happened— the way Sam remembers it happening— is laughably mundane. All you understand when you’re that young is what you’re told by the people who are supposed to love you. [extremely underage, dean!whump as well]

Sam has done his best to move past what Tim and Reggie did to him, pretending it never happened at all. But running into them again makes that very difficult—especially when Dean gets involved.

Exhaustion makes Sam stupid and desperate. No (good) solutions are found. [7x17, wincest + sam/the dealer]

I take this under cut but I advise you that today and tomorrow I could make other stuff that contains spoiler for last episode, 16x7.
I know nobody will believe me (I hope at least @thinitta), but I'm not crying or mourning garvez, and this doesn't mean that I prefer what they gave us or I don't ship garvez. You all know I will until death. Premise: I think that is good to have different opinions. I respect yours and hope you can do the same with mine. I'm open to deepen the question. 😊 Said that...
Okay, this was worst than a kiss. But, just for a moment, imagine the same scene, and especially the same words, but coming out Luke mouth and not Tyler's. It would have been perfect.
I mean, for me it's clear that seiing Penelope made Luke to see the shades, the colors in the world. I have this idea that he wasn't so happy to live, before tha BAU.
So, Luke should have said that to her. Tyler's words were deep and strong. That's why they hitted Penelope, and why she reacted in that way... Plus... the guilty pleasure... I mean, Emily ordered her to stop any contacts with Tyler. Penelope tried to do the right thing, and then...
Good part: she would have able to do it, if Tyler didn't say that thing.
I have another thing to say, and it's even worse. I mean, I'm aware that almost all think that I'm denying the truth, or really crazy, or... let me say that my friends always tell me I'm a negative person (and each time I reply I'm a realist, as Rossellini meant). Do I look negative? I reached a point in my life, that no matter what, I will always search the good parts of anything.
So... in more than one story of mine I imagined a dialogue between Pen and Luke, about... sex. The fact, after Lisa, he wasn't... dry, while I thought Penelope was. And this thing scared her even more, about considering dating him. Just in my FF. So, the fact she made it...
I don't like it, but I can still see the light in the tunnel. I will, until I hear Penelope saying "I'm in love with you" or similar declarations. Sex is just sex. Deep love is another thing. You really think someone can't make sex with a man and still be in love with another? Is this correct or right? No. But it happens.
As the protagonist of a French movie that I studied for an exam said there (Journal d'un curé de campagne), how long was the trip I have to face, to finally meet you! Sometimes you have to lose yourself to find where you truly belong...
Already said that: Luke needed Lisa and maybe Penelope needed Tyler.
Okay, I lied, I have two other things to spit out. I think that the evolution of Tyler and Garcia relationship is not just forced and rushed. They (all staff) made it a big explosion. They did the exactly opposite in comparison to Luke and Lisa story. We saw her in 13x12, then nothing until 13x21. My opinion? The flames that burn too fast, don't last long. For garvez was the opposite: they are flames that burn slowly, and will never be exthinguished (oh damn, such a perfect title for a fic).
Last thing: Emily was so right. And we, I mean, the viewers and also the writers, can't forget that there is a big case at stake. Penelope will never be able to manage a such situation. They will find Sicarius, one day, and there will be a process. If Penelope really wants Tyler, she has to wait. She would not be the first, that have to make such sacrifice and will not be the last.
Bonus: a garvez little thing I saw during the episode: Luke looks at her when Emily calls him to duty, before leaving. I expected more and more from Aisha...
No, no, one last thing: the title of the episode. So perfect for the situation. What doesn't kill you... makes you stronger. I focus on the second part.

I have been writing again. Mostly Stellaride, but I am working on a Densi post-ep from last week and have a multi-chapter idea for Densi that I’m trying to plan out. It’s amazing what a change in antidepressant protocol can do!
I haven’t been posting my Stellaride stuff on ff.net because the audience seems to mostly be on AO3, but I’ll post my Densi stuff both places.

“Kelly, the simple truth is that you are m a g i c to me. Whenever I’m at my lowest, you lift me up. You never leave my side. You are the goodest of men. And yes, we are taking a huge, crazy leap into the unknown, but we’re doing it together. And when I need to hear it, you’ll tell me, ‘you’ve got this Stella Kidd,’ and I’ll know that everything will be okay because it always is when I’m with you. I love you with everything I’ve got, Kelly Severide, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

“Stella, I decided a long time ago that if I was gonna be with you, I needed to be worthy of you, which seemed impossible. How do I become worthy of someone brave enough to show who they are inside and out? What makes me this better person that I keep hearing about is you keep me from locking things up. Instead, you made sure you really knew me. Then by some miracle, you still love me. Stella, I might never be worthy of you, but I promise to spend the rest of my life trying. And I love you.”

My #1 post of 2022
Obv I went back and watched the Stellaride hospital scene like 15 times just now. Things I loved:
- Stella being so worried she can’t even form a single complete thought
- the way she is afraid to touch him where he’s injured so she just keeps touching his face
- KELLY SEVERIDE WITH TEARS IN HIS EYES
- the way he tucks his head into her chest when she hugs him close
- the way he choked up when he told her he loved her
- the placement of his hands on her upper thighs when Boden walks in
- Kelly wiping his tears away as Boden and the detective come in
- DID I MENTION KELLY SEVERIDE WAS SO EMOTIONAL HE WAS BASICALLY CRYING??
- more face touching
- the way Stella cradles his head against her after they’re left alone again
YOU GUYS. I just freaking love them so freaking much and they’re getting freaking married NEXT WEEK.

Dadstiel Shoulder Touch Analysis
I want to take some time to discuss something about this incredible father/son dynamic that I don’t think gets enough recognition. And that is their connection. A connection layered in so many different attributes yet primarily based on physical touch. Apologies this is going to be long. Despite my saltiness towards Supernatural as I feel the show squandered them during its run, I really love the amount of attention to detail that was put into Castiel and Jack’s relationship. It kind of has a Terminator inspired vibe going on which I can’t deny enjoying. The bodyguard and the future savior of mankind. And this bond was in development all the way back in season 12; long before Jack was born.

During 12x19 it’s through his mother Kelly, that the son of Lucifer forges an emotional attachment with the trench-coated angel whom he imprints on to be his surrogate dad. From the moment Castiel puts his hand on her belly, and feels Jack, they instantly fall in love with each other. At first touch. Trusting each other completely without the slightest bit of doubt as they sense the other’s good aura. It’s a devotion unlike anything Cas has ever experienced in his millions of years. Even more than what he’s felt for Sam and Dean. And it happens before he and Jack even get to see each other. Their bond becomes intensely essential that it boosts Castiel’s grace, allowing him to protect Kelly and her son from Dagon as well as cause a rip in time and space.
After Jack is born and in the care of the Winchesters, scared, lost and confused yet curious as an infant in an adolescent body; the child wanders aimlessly searching for Castiel. All he wants in that moment is to be with Castiel because that is who he recognizes as his father. Missing him and needing to feel that same warmth, protection and compassion he felt from inside his mother’s womb. However, following the tragic circumstances that led to the angel’s unexpected death at the hands of Jack’s biological dad in 12x23, these two are forcibly separated in the beginning of season 13. Until Jack instinctively resurrects Castiel out of the Empty through his own will and desire alone at the very end of 13x03. Proving that no matter how far away they are, the tether between them can’t be broken.

These two don’t even need an introduction from Sam and Dean when 13x06 finally reunites them for the first time. Jack immediately knows who Castiel is going off on his mother’s memories. And their reunion comes so naturally. There’s no awkwardness, no hesitation or apprehensiveness emanating from the angel’s presence. Jack just walks right up to Cas, puts his arms around him and tells him how much he missed him. Its as if they’d never been apart. And afterwards they spend nearly the entire episode practically inseparable. Getting to know each other as father and son. And that goes without saying, while Jack did bond with the Winchesters in person first, there is no comparison to the Nephilim boy’s emotional attachment towards the angel.
This special relationship is very significant to both of them. Around each other they’re at their most happiest. Castiel is constantly at Jack’s side; and ALMOST ALWAYS tenderly touching him, namely his shoulders or protectively holding him by the arm and the child wholly reciprocates this. In Castiel’s gentle physical touch Jack is given a sense of security, solace, reassurance and comfort. Same as he’d had as an unborn baby. Not only is this the angel’s way of demonstrating his affection, empathy and devotion towards his son but this is actually how he non-verbally tells Jack that he loves him. Its purely unconditional. And this gesture isn’t one-sided as I will acknowledge later. Jack desires Cas’s tangible nearness as much as his dad does which is why they’re so magnetically pulled together in all of their scenes on the show.

Even when they’re at conflict with each other or arguing, Castiel never fails to let Jack know that he’s always safe and loved. That he isn’t afraid of him. His son could be in pain, angry, or vengeful in the moment and Castiel’s affection for that child will never waver. He’ll endlessly put his own life at risk in order to reach Jack; who is far more powerful than he is via his archangel half. Like the convivence store scene in 13x23 when Jack attacks a civilian believing he’d killed his friend and Cas does his best to subdue him. Whether Jack wants it or not at the time, he needs his dad’s emotional support; and the angel can’t stand the thought of his son harmed or hurting. He’s easily saddened whenever Jack refuses his touch as shown in 13x21 when he was very upset over Sam’s temporary death and rips away Cas’s hand as he’s trying to console him.
Supernatural really emphasizes the powerful connection Castiel and Jack share using physical communication in nearly every one of their episodes. Its these wonderful details they do onscreen that illustrates the depth of love these characters have for each other. Unfortunately though, they didn’t get to interact much during season 13. Yet the small portions in their four episodes together is exceptionally substantial. While we’re on the subject, the shoulder touches are definitely a Dadstiel thing. It’s their signature sign of affection and theirs’s only. Don’t believe me, let me give you an example of a specific scene in 14x19 between Jack and Sam; which takes place in the aftermath of Jack’s accidental killing of the Winchesters’ mother Mary.

Dean and Sam conspire to trick and lock away the soulless infant Nephilim in a mystical coffin as punishment with the intention of finding a solution that will end his life. Sam is the reluctant main player in this scheme of using his influence over the child in order to gain his trust and sway him into his fate. Just before Jack’s about to be led to the room and put into the box, scared and uncertain, Sam then puts his hand on his shoulder telling him they need to keep him safe while giving him an awkward grin. And look at Jack’s expression as this happens. It reads shattered. He immediately knows something’s wrong. Sam is touching him just like Castiel…except this is nothing like Castiel. His dad’s shoulder touches are always so tender and loving.
Jack can literally feel Cas’s devotion for him in every tangibility. But here he doesn’t feel that from Sam at all. Its cold, fearful and empty just like he is on the inside. Rendering him even more nervous. Speaking of season 14 the father/son content we get between Castiel and Jack is even better that year as its all about their relationship growing and strengthening into something far deeper than it was in the previous seasons 12 and 13. It’s the year their bond is put through the ultimate test. Where Jack is made human after Lucifer steals his grace and Cas dominantly steps into his role as a father.

Providing Jack with a certain guidance, boundaries, and stability in episodes 14x01, 14x02, 14x03, 14x09 and 14x10 unlike what he’d received from Sam and Dean. Castiel takes on all the difficult tasks of parenting ranging from scolding to teaching his son about death, responsibility, self-restraint, patience and the tribulations of growing up. He doesn’t raise his voice ever when he speaks to Jack. And is completely there 100% for his son from the beginning…and the end of his life. Although Castiel is an angel he is very much a pivotal link to Jack’s humanity and vice versa as well as a link to his celestial side. While he greatly admires and looks up to the Winchesters, its through Cas’s influence that the infant Nephilim aspires to be a good person.
Jack never wants to become the monster his biological father was; desperate to break out of that mold once in for all. And he isn’t alone. Castiel is right there with Jack every step of the way. Ready to challenge and encourage his son whenever he does something decent or makes a mistake. He doesn’t hesitate to tell his son when he’s proud of him. And sometimes he’s there to coddle Jack during times of crisis as displayed in the 14x09 showdown with AU!Michael where the angel takes a second to heal Jack’s minor facial wounds. I just love that tiny focal point of Cas in the background, as the Winchesters are talking, putting his hand on Jack’s shoulder before using his powers on him. As if to keep him calm; like a parent reassuring their nervous kid that it won’t hurt.

Throughout the first part of season 14 we’re blessed with so much affectionate Dadstiel moments like the after-the-battle angst talk in 14x01 where Castiel reminds a very frustrated Jack “you’ve got me” as he declares he has nothing. Or 14x08 after Jack’s death and they’re bittersweetly reunited in Heaven with Kelly; all smiles, touching shoulders and hugging each other as if they can’t bear to be separated. Followed with that heartfelt moment of Castiel tenderly touching his son’s cheeks, sadly looking at him with so much adoration, as he sends his soul back to his body. Then there was their unforgettable father/son pep talk in regards to the vulnerability of Jack’s soul; Castiel just gives his son’s shoulder a gentle squeeze as he leaves the room. Again, this is how these two say “I love you”.

And I couldn’t very go in depth of this analysis without mentioning 14x20′s Jack death scene 2.0; Castiel helplessly touches his son, who’s screaming on the ground in agony, trying desperately to ease his suffering. Yah this was particularly very hard for me to watch witnessing Castiel going out of his mind, completely unable to save Jack from enduring such a painful end to his life. Once was already cruel enough on me. And of course 15x01 continued that vicious trend of Castiel harrowingly protecting his son’s corpse, carrying him over the shoulder in a fireman’s hold as he runs through the cemetery, then gently lays him down on the floor in a mausoleum. I get emotional watching Cas cradling Jack’s head as he positions him comfortably; letting his touch linger unable to let go. He doesn’t even care what happens to him in this moment as long as his son’s body is safe. Very strong symbolism of a parent who will never abandon their child long after they’re gone.

On a side note I want to quickly call attention to how much I revere the Dadstiel healing parallels in 14x09 and 14x14 plus BONUS: Jack almost-killing Castiel in 15x13 so he can talk to Ruby in the Empty. These just add some nice little textures in their dynamic which compliments their ongoing tradition of showing devotion through physical communication. And both the healing scenes and the temporary death scene are composited very similarly. Focused on Castiel and Jack’s hands in the process of relieving the other’s pain/life.
Touch is exhibited as being a very crucial element for both of these characters when it comes to their iron-clad relationship. That palpable part of Castiel and Jack’s connection keeps them closely-knit. Its their familial instinct and how they express their feelings for each other. If they aren’t kneading shoulders, the angel duo is often standing beside each other or firmly linked at the arms. And this usually happens during moments of extreme stress, joy, sorrow, pain or fear. Jack relies so much on Castiel’s parental presence. He respects his authority, disobeying only when his actions feel necessary, and will go to the angel whenever he wants to talk or vent. Jack is also comfortable with Castiel enough to confide his darkest secrets no matter how awful they are. That’s the foundation of the everlasting trust built between them. They’re just tethered to one another in such a way that nothing will divide them.

I’ll begin with the hospital scene from 14x07 where Castiel is being the rock to his ailing son who can barely stand on his feet. There’s so much anxiety radiating off him in this moment as he struggles with watching Jack suffer; holding him so close. Staring at his face you can tell this horrible situation is ripping him apart. Actually, the entire episode is basically just Castiel silently enduring the pain of Jack dying.
The second set of screencaps underneath are of 14x10; Jack is agitated by AU!Michael’s antagonistic claims that his family’s love for him isn’t unconditional. Reading into one of his greatest fears. But then Castiel instantly calls out to his son, grabs the crook of his arm; gently reassuring him none of this is true. And Jack doesn’t resist this as he knows his dad is sincere. He never has to question Cas’s feelings towards him as his physical touch alone is self-explanatory. But when it comes to the Winchesters, that’s a whole other conversation.
Next, we have one of my favorite emotionally-charged Dadstiel moments in 14x14; where in a fit of panic because the anti venom wasn’t working Jack, going against Castiel’s warnings not to risk burning off his soul, is compelled to use his powers to save his dad. And I love this because this time its Jack who’s the one initiating all the physical contact. Just as the recovered angel demands what he’s done, his son responds with a soft “you’re okay” and the “I love you dad” shoulder touch as well as firmly gripping his arm.

Finally stepping away from season 14 I’m going to briefly go over the caps from season 15. Let’s begin with 15x11 the Dadstiel reunion scene at the church which is so beautifully poignant. Castiel is so overjoyed to see Jack alive that he takes a second to look over his equally stunned son, touching his shoulders before they embrace. This is by far one of Cas and Jack’s top father/son moments on the show and it’s done so effectively. If you want a more in-depth description for what I love about this scene, you can read my post about it here.
After that is the 15x13 Dadstiel moment where Castiel, suspicious of Jo’s story about the Occultum, had asked Jack to temporarily kill him in order to go see Ruby in the Empty. Two things I really like about this; 1. even though Jack still doesn’t have a soul, is very concerned about and protective over Castiel because of that deal. And 2. again Jack is initiating all the touching in this scene; look at the way he grasps his dad’s arm as he returns him to life. It’s almost as if he’s hoping the touch of his hand will not only speed up the process but also reach his dad so his essence isn’t lost forever.
And then we have 15x17. We didn’t get much Dadstiel interaction in this episode but the amount of times Castiel protectively holds onto his agonized child, who’d been turned into a cosmic bomb about to go off any minute, having no regard for the danger he’s in is so visually gut-wrenching. There’s a specific moment in the scene where, as Sam and Dean are arguing, Castiel is sitting on the floor just clutching Jack tight. Trying to non-verbally soothe him.

And this is followed up in the first half of 15x18, aka THEIR VERY LAST EPISODE TOGETHER ever on Supernatural. Here is where everything about their connection comes full circle with Castiel refusing to abandon Jack no matter the situation. Demonstrating the extent of his devotion by willing to die for his child just as he’d sacrificed his happiness to save Jack from the Empty. Because that is his son and nothing not even death itself can ever destroy what they have. Much as the young Nephilim boy begs for his dad to stay away, yells that he doesn’t want to hurt him; Castiel kneeling to Jack’s eye-level doesn’t leave his side. Then when Jack disappears to the Empty and reappears back at the bunker reformed, Castiel’s hand remains firmly glued to his son’s shoulder. He doesn’t want Jack to feel afraid or traumatized any further.
This was such an intense part of the episode I mean just look at how stressed out these two were. The anguish in their expressions. Simply put, Cas and Jack cannot bare to live without the other. They’re each other’s home; two sides of the same soul. Castiel loves all of Jack; the good, the bad and the ugly. This is an EPIC father and son’s love that knows no bounds. So powerful and pure that it transcended the loss of Jack’s soul, Lucifer’s DNA, the Empty, Mary Winchester’s death and everything else in between. Oh, and guess what, their “I love you” Dadstiel shoulder touches aren’t limited to just their hands. Its in every single one of their hugs too.

Notice how their chins or faces just comfortably rest on top of each other’s shoulders. And except for 14x20 their eyes are shut, as if to savor every single second of that closeness. Jack just buries himself against Castiel like he’s never felt safer with anyone else in the whole universe. And both of them hold each other; giving and receiving the other’s love with their whole self. Like I can’t even begin to describe how much Castiel and Jack’s softness towards each other just melts my heart. Their relationship, despite the horror tongue-in-cheek atmosphere of SPN, is surprisingly sweet, healthy and endearing. They are the epitome of true unconditional love and a great contrast to the Winchester brothers. In my humble opinion Castiel and Jack’s father/son dynamic is the best thing to happen to this show in a long while.
For the closing segment of this analysis I want to do something special before I discuss the paralleled-angst driven Dadstiel shoulder touches in 15x15 and 15x18. First off, I can’t shout enough praise from the rooftops about the insanely remarkable chemistry between Alexander Calvert and Misha Collins. Just brilliant casting. They embody these characters heart and soul and make this relationship feel so real, genuine and grounded. The fact that they look so similar in appearance really sells the idea that these two could actually be father and son. Forget the scripts, the quiet subtly these two bring to Castiel and Jack is the true magic of their relationship.

Let me start with the Dadstiel centric 15x15 aka THE BEST EPISODE of Supernatural season 15. This amazing masterpiece of art is everything I could’ve asked for and more; giving me so much precious father/son content that I will cherish forever. I really enjoyed seeing Castiel and Jack in those matching ties, bonding with each other over a case while they save the day. It’s a shame this show never let these two have more solo adventures together because they’re truly a joy to watch onscreen. Fingers crossed for that spinoff.
But I digress, the car scene in question happens at the very end of the episode in which Jack reveals the alarming truth that he has to die in order to stop Chuck and Amara. And Castiel, visibly and outspokenly distraught by this news, has to be assuaged with that infamous shoulder touch by his son; who’s in just as much pain. This is without a doubt one of most emotional scenes between these two characters out of the last three seasons of the show and quite possibly one of Misha and Alex’s strongest acting moments after the Dadstiel church reunion in 15x11. They killed it with the feels here. I like the attention to detail, the shadows and the colors in the shot, the melancholic score as well as how it seamlessly switches from Jack’s perspective to Castiel’s. Seriously watching this scene always makes me cry its so devastating.
Lastly, we have the Dadstiel car scene in 15x18; and Castiel and Jack’s LAST ONE-ON-ONE together. I’m kind of disappointed by this if I’m being honest. Its not that its bad its just not that definitively great for a final scene between these characters. Especially after four seasons of development. Where are the stakes? Why don’t Jack and Castiel seem as concerned about their situation? Cute as that smile was it doesn’t fit the tone. And where’s that punch in the gut knowing something is going to separate these two any second? It’s too light and doesn’t come off like a goodbye or a cathartic bookend which is what I wanted to take away from the episode considering its title “Despair”.
I mean if they were going to follow up on that heartbreaking car scene at the end of “Gimme Shelter”, the 15x18 scene wasn’t the way to do it. So, the weight of this final interaction feels almost non-existent. Maybe if it had taken place at night and the dialogue solely focused on them not the Winchesters it would’ve faired better. But since this isn’t a rant post I’ll cut to the chase by saying that the only saving grace this moment has happens in the last part. Jack’s in tears telling his dad how scared he is that he can’t use his powers to protect anyone. Coming off very childlike and vulnerable; needing that parental protection that Castiel was always known for. And sure enough, he gives Jack that final “I love you” shoulder touch which I swear had me choked a little.
Rethinking about it now that the show is over actually makes their final moment together really sad as incomplete as it is. I not only look back on how much these characters were drastically underutilized but how much the Dadstiel storyline could’ve been executed better with all the development that it was given. Well there you have it my full Dadstiel shoulder-touch analysis. Hope you’ve enjoyed!

I would love for you to talk more indepth about the montage. To me it feels so off and weird. Almost like a parody? So many scenes in it are "funny" moments that just don't make sense in the context of an emotional overview of the road so far... (Like all the scenes where Dean is eating, Donna with donut dust on her face, Sam getting hit during the game show.) I don't know. Isn't the montage supposed to make me nostalgic, teary-eyed? This one definitely doesn't do it for me!
Here I am! Yes, I absolutely agree. The montage is Weird(TM). It’s kind of a tone rollercoaster. It’s very full of funny/silly moments, with some serious moments smacked in. And it definitely looks like... there’s something about it.
For an easier consultation I will reference the gifs I have made of the montage sequence here.
[Gif 1] It starts pretty much like I’d expect a Supernatural goodbye montage to start. The two brothers meeting for the first time in the pilot, a reminder of their childhood with John, their banter still from the pilot, a couple moments of them driving in the car in the first seasons, Dean saving Lucas in 1x03 which is the first Dean-heavy episode and also an extremely symbolic moment for Dean’s entire journey - just think at how Lucas as a mirror was still relevent during the “drowning” Michael possession arc. Everything feels normal so far. We’re starting from the beginning! Now--
[Gif 2] Interesting and weird choices start here. Them pretending to be high school teachers from After School Special 4x13 - actually a very iconic moment for the fandom, remember that post of Dean in shorts from that episode that you had to reblog when it came on your dash? (Actually I’m not sure if I ever reblogged it lol.) Dean celebrating getting young again from The Curious Case of Dean Winchester 5x07 (and Jensen showing off his agility). The two of them showing their FBI badges to Jesse Turner’s biological mother in 5x06. Dean mowing the lawn of Mary’s house in the Djinn dream and immediately after Jess and Sam kissing also in the Djinn dream, from What Is And What Should Never Be 2x20. Then Dean after killing the witch when he was under the memory loss spell, in Regarding Dean 12x11. Sam happy when they celebrate Christmas in A Very Supernatural Christmas 3x08. Them being “lucky” under the effect of the rabbit’s foot in Bad Day At Black Rock 3x03. Sam also happy in Baby 11x04.
Again the present, then the montage starts again with the water-related ghost from Red Sky At Morning 3x06, a Bela episode, and then Bela herself from her first episode, 3x03 again.
What do these moments have in common? Not all of them, but for many of them I’d say reality being manipulated. The Djinn dream, the rabbit foot, Dean’s aging, the Antichrist... and it’s not over yet. Also, them pretending to be teachers, agents etc - not “real”.
[Gif 3] The tone suddenly gets more serious and relevant to current events: Chuck in The Monster at the End of This Book 4x18 (eh). Death in Two Minutes to Midnight 5x21 (the first appearance of Death, while now we’ve had Billie’s last and a very short-lived new one), and then two major moments from Lazarus Rising - Dean emerging from the grave and finding the handprint on his shoulder. Crowley’s first episode, Abandon All Hope 5x10. Zachariah’s death in Point Of No Return 5x18. Anna from The Song Remains The Same 5x13, where she is the antagonist having been brainwashed successfully by heaven. Michael burning and Sam jumping in the cage with Michael in 5x22, then another moment from 4x01 (the brothers hugging after reuniting). A moment from The French Mistake 6x15 (reality fuckery again!). Sam in Frontierland 6x18.
[Gif 4] Reality fuckery continues with Becky marrying Sam in 7x08. Funnily enough, this is the peak of Becky’s obsessive behavior which she went to therapy for and grew away of - it definitely emphasizes how far Becky has come. Donna’s first appeance in 9x13. That iconic shot of Dean in Bloodlust 2x03 because he’s pretty. Charlie’s first appearance in 7x20 while she dances to Walking On Sunshine (relevant?), Kevin’s first appearance in 7x21 when he becomes a prophet (lots of firsts). Abaddon’s first appearance in As Time Goes By 8x12. Then there’s the first appearance of the bunker, in the next episode, a couple shots in fact. Then more 4x01, Ruby pretending to mistake Dean for the pizza man (eh). Then more present...
This section seems to be mostly “first appearances” - including Ruby’s s4 meatsuit, i.e. Genevieve’s first appearance.
[Gif 5] We suddenly jump to more recent events with Kelly and Jack in heaven in Byzanthium 4x08. Jack’s iconic hello from 4x16 Don’t Go In The Woods. Dean teaching Jack how to drive in 14x07 Unhuman Nature. But then we suddenly go from Jack things to something completely different on the surface: two consecutive moments from Changing Channels 5x08, including the iconic Nutcracker scene, and Sully from Just My Imagination. We are actually back to the previous theme: reality fuckery. Gabriel’s episode was about placing them in “television shows”, Sully, while real, is literally a child’s “imaginary friend”. And then... a moment from the cartoon part of Scoobynatural! It doesn’t get more reality fuckery than that. Oh, wait! Charlie and Dorothy going to Oz in 9x04. That’s a pretty strong contender. Dean being hit in the face by a fairy in 6x09 - also about a realm Dean briefly went to. And, in case we felt like we hadn’t gotten enough 4x01 yet, Pamela’s first appearance (her last, albeit a hallucination, was about the whole “How come you only want what you can't have?” thing).
[Gif 6] We continue again with a mixture of firsts and weird things. Ellen’s first appearance in 2x02, Dean and Cas in 4x18 (we saw Chuck from that episode earlier), Jody’s first appearance in 5x15 Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. Rufus in 6x04 Weekend At Bobby’s (not his first but a good episode...), Garth in 9x12 Sharp Teeth (not his first but the first in which he is a werewolf and is married... relevant to recent lamp events??), Missouri in 1x09 (her first appearance).
Then Gabriel from 13x21 Beat The Devil (an episode where he plays a trick on Lucifer) and Rowena from the same scene (in fact a scene where they’re flirting). Then Eileen coming back to life in 15x06 and smiling at Sam. Jo flirting with Dean in 2x02 - her first appearance, again. Funnily enough, she had been introduced as a love interest, but ended up being repurposed as a sisterly figure. Tempted to say it’s relevant in an ironic way. Mary in 14x11 Damaged Goods, when Dean has a goodbye mother-son moment with her. Amara in 11x09 Oh Brother Where Art Thou when she was looking for her brother. Then Lucifer in two different vessels (12x07 Rock Never Dies and 12x21, when Lucifer regains control over the vessel).
Then Metatron doing the find a wife make babies speech to Cas in 8x23! Relevant??? Dun dun dun. Then Ketch for some reason (the first episode where we see his face, 12x08 LOTUS).
[Gif 7] Then Jo/Anael in 13x13, another first appearance. (I cropped these horribly I should have cut them when the present happens lol.)
Sandwiched between two shots from the present, Dean Sam Mary and John having dinner together in 14x13 Lebanon.
Then we start again with Dean riding Larry in 12x11, Dean and Cas dressed as cowboys in 13x06 (mini pattern here...), Asmodeus with the archangel blade in 13x13 (insert meta about Asmodeus in Christian lore here), and the really intriguing “Intermission” shot from the play in 10x05.
[Gif 8] To continue a certain pattern we might be tempted to see, Dean eating piecake from 14x06 Optimism (an episode about a distorted version of romantic love), then Dean eating noodles from 10x13 Halt & Catch Fire (the ghost is a husband that passes on thanks to his wife). Dean after his dentistry session with Garth in 15x10. Meg from 6x10 Caged Heat (the episode with the pizza man porn). Dean and Sam investigating in 4x12 Criss Angel Is a Douchebag (an episode about growing old poorly). Crowley in 10x16 Paint It Black (that episode). Dean playing that game in 14x17 Game Night (the episode Cas calls for God, and when Mary dies - the one playing the game was God...). Sam and Dean getting out of the car in 13x05 when they visit the traumatized kid (peak mourning Dean episode...). Then we go into reality fuckery territory again with 14x15 Peace of Mind, Sam under the psychic’s control and Cas disgruntled about it.
[Gif 9] Mick Davies from 12x16 Ladies Drink Free, when he learnt a lesson about monsters. Dean geeking out about the Hatchet Man - so heavy with mirror significances - in 14x04 Mint Condition. Belphegor - Jack’s dark mirror - in 15x03 The Rupture, the break-up episode. Donna’s first episode again, this time Dean and she eating donuts. Dean, Sam and Mary hugging in 12x22 after the confrontation in Mary’s head. Kaia in 13x09 The Bad Place, when Jack uses her to find the way to where Mary is (Mary pattern?). Claire&co rescuing Jody and Donna in 13x10 Wayward Sisters. Dean in 1944 dresses as a sailor in 11x14 The Vessel. Baby nyooming in 15x11 The Gamblers...
Aaand more Changing Channels, the genital herpes ad. It’s almost like reality fuckery is a theme. Followed by Sam drinking the anti-cold concoction at Garth’s in 15x10 and the two of them outside the monster fighting pit in the same episode. Then Cas, Dean, Sam and Jack on a video call with Ketch in 14x09 The Spear when they talk about the egg to trap Michael.
[Gif 10] We stay in the same episode with the four of them heading to Michael. Then the four of them celebrating Jack’s return to life (after Cas’ deal with the Empty). More present, and then the iconic “we’ve got work to do” [trunk closes] moment from the pilot.
So: some of these moments seem like genuine moments you’ll want to put in a montage, but there’s a weird predominance of characters smiling and looking happy or goofy. It’s kind of... not exactly representative of the show as a whole, you know? There are moments that fit as, you know, iconic steps in the story, but surprisingly few, and many moments you’d expect to be in a “final” montage are blatantly not there. Several moments with, let’s put it like this, suspicious meta connotations. Moments that, well, we don’t know what happens in the finale yet, but smell like they might be relevant to future developments. (Metatron’s speech to newly human Cas anyone?)
What really strikes me is the amount of moments connected to reality being manipulated or distorted in some way. Lots of Changing Channels, fantasy elements of various kinds (the Djinn dream, Scoobynatural, Oz, the imaginary friend Becky’s wedding to Sam, the fairy, ...), them acquiring luck (s3) or losing it (s15), and so on. It’s almost like the sequence is telling us something...

Ugh, YES! That "sexually intimate" dialogue moment was 100% Dean being all record-scratch over Cas's casual mention of sex in general. Almost a fanfic moment where Cas uses a technical term for something sexual and Dean corrects him with the slang!
Sorry I took a while to answer this because I feel like you can’t address this without adding gifs.
I think it’s interesting because any time the subject of sex is brought up around Cas, Dean gets very flustered. That’s somewhat uncharacteristic of him, as he’s not particularly shy when it comes to discussing that topic. The other time that he seemed uncomfortable was when Sam brought up the fact that Dean was a “ animated Japanese erotica chick” to Jody. When Sam asked him why that bothered him, Dean’s response was “it’s Jody, man.”
Dean sees Jody as a kind of mother figure, and so it makes sense why he wouldn’t want to talk about sex around her. With Cas…well there’s no such reason there, and yet it’s been a running theme that his brain runs an error 404 signal anytime the topic of sex comes up around Cas.
This is kind of a running theme that maybe could be traced back to 5x04, and there’s also the fact that Cas is pretty much the only one he hides his porn from back in 8x10, and a few other scattered moments, but it became a more consistent and notable thing - or at least more notable to me - in the Dabb era so I’m just going to focus on those moments.
@justanotheridijiton mentioned 12x01 and Dean’s exchange with Cas after finding out he was conceived in the back seat of the Impala. Cas seems confused about the whole thing and yet still Dean seems flustered as hell. Edit: It’s not explicit that Dean was conceived there but the implication is definitely that Mary and John used to hook up back there.
There’s also Scoobynatural. Dean’s on a high from their wacky adventure and when they return we get this exchange
Can’t talk to Cas about that for some reason…
There’s a lot going on in 13x21, a particularly innuendo laden episode. Part of me still isn’t convinced they didn’t come up with the dick jokes first and then construct an episode around them. We start the episode with this exchange (also mentioned to me by @justanotheridijiton)
Later in the episode we have the whole Gabriel falling face first onto Cas’ crotch nonsense, Dean’s reaction is pretty much the only one that’s telegraphed.
Honourable mention goes to the ball handler exchange from 13x19, during which Dean once again gets unnecessarily flustered and Cas is confused.
I mean that’s the pattern right? Any mention of sex from or around Cas, and Dean can’t deal with it. For…reasons? Cas on the other hand is oblivious. He doesn’t pick up on understated mentions or innuendo. Cas’ experiences with sex in the past have been complicated to say the least, but one thing they haven’t been is subtle. And Cas has never exactly been subtle when he’s broached the subject either. Who can forget him trying to play matchmaker for the bartender back in 8x23:
Cas: Would you say that you’re looking for, uh, a partner in crime… …or, uh, someone who’s into nurse role-play and light domination?
Bartender: Brother it’s 10am on a Tuesday
You know when even Metatron tells you “you’re not the most subtle tool in the shed” there might be something to it.
Let’s be real, Supernatural hasn’t always had the best track record when it comes to addressing Cas and sexuality, but there are times, mainly by Bobo and Yockey, that there has been some thoughtful exploration of the topic. I’m thinking back to 10x07 in particular with Cas and Hannah.
Hannah was possessing a human woman. She was having feelings, desires that she didn’t quite understand and didn’t really know what to do with them. It was some really interesting stuff, because on the one hand she was still thinking from an angelic mindset, surprised that Cas is showing any kind of reaction at all to her nudity. After he’s an angel too, and it shouldn’t affect him. But then we have that shot of her smiling, seemingly pleased that he’s feeling something. At that point she didn’t even understand why that would make her happy, but by the end of the episode, Hannah has realised what it all was and she explains it to Cas quite succinctly:
Being on earth, working with you, I’ve felt things. Human things – passions, hungers. To shower, feel water on my skin… to get closer to you. But all of that was nothing compared to what I felt when I saw him.
Her husband – his anger and his grief. And Caroline was inside of me, screaming out for him, for her life back. These f-feelings, they aren’t for me, for us. They belong to her.
But the thing is, those feelings and passions, they may not have belonged to her, but they did belong to Cas. He’s not sharing his body with anyone else, and the things that he feels, they’re all coming from him.
So it’s not talked about very often, because sex isn’t exactly a priority for Cas, even if he does seem to have an interest and curiosity about the whole thing. See also him getting lost in Sunny’s “surprisingly passionate” love letters in 14x15 as he grips an invisible dick (though you know that part was all Misha)
He also later calls them “steamy erotic musings”
I think a big part of it is also what he told Hannah whenever she expressed any interest in him: the mission comes first. Duty above all else. That hasn’t changed for Cas. Other than walking out on Dean because he was trying to put his emotional needs first, when was the last time Cas did something just for himself? With no duty or plans or anything involved, when did he last do something because he wanted/needed to or even just felt like it? It’s not a common occurrence.
Ok yeah this ended up going down some tangents, but essentially I think that Cas seems oblivious about sex but it’s really just that he does not pick up on subtleties or innuendos on that topic. He favours a more direct approach. And any mention of sex direct or otherwise, as shown by his reaction to Cas saying “sexually intimate” this episode, for some reason seems to make Dean short circuit. It’s interesting, and yet always hilarious.
(And also apropos of nothing, I still have no idea what was up with that extended Dean pizza sequence in the Before. I mean…what???)

I compiled a list of some lovely and underrated Castiel quotes to spread some Cas appreciation before Thursday rips my heart out. Feel free to add on :)
“I’m not a... hammer, as you say. I have questions. I have doubts.” 4x07
“Strange. Strange how a leaky pipe can undo the work of angels when we ourselves are supposed to be the agents of fate.” 4x16
“We’re making it up as we go.” 4x22
“You are not taking Sam Winchester. I won’t let you.” 5x10
“And we ripped up the ending, and the rules, and destiny- leaving nothing but freedom and choice.” 6x20
“Freedom is a length of rope, and God wants you to hang yourself with it.” 6x20
“I was lost until I took on your pain.” 7x21
“I know what it means to feel sorry, Sam. I am sorry.” 9x11
“I want Gadreel to pay as much as you. But nothing is worth losing you. You know, being human- it didn’t just change my view of food. It changed my view of you.” 9x11
“That PB&J taught me that angels can change, so... who knows? Maybe Winchesters can too.” 9x11
“I just wanna be an angel.” 10x02
“Now I realize there is no righteous path- it’s just people trying to do their best in a world where it’s far too easy to do your worst.” 10x09
“You can’t save everyone, my friend. Though you try.” 10x09
“Thank you. Knowing you, it’s been the best part of my life. The things we’ve shared together, they have changed me. You’re my family. I love you. I love all of you. Just please... please don’t make my last moments be spent watching you die. Just run. Save yourselves.” 12x12
“Kelly, I know how hard this is. That’s a lie. I have no idea how hard this is for you. But I promise you... I will do everything. I will give my life for your son. And I will raise him, and I will make him someone you will be proud of.” 12x23
“You can prance and you can preen and you can scream and yell and remind me of my failings but somehow, I’m awake. And I will stay awake and I will keep you awake until we both go insane.” 13x04
“Jack would rather kill you than hug you.” 13x12
“Well, Heaven’s been run into the ground by upstanding angels. Perhaps a screw-up is just the change we need.” 13x21
“I had something else that was extremely helpful. I had myself.” 14x02
“It matters that they were here at all, and you got to know them. When they’re gone, it will hurt, but that hurt will remind you of how much you love them.” 14x14
“We need to go somewhere safe. Somewhere they’ll never find us.” 14x20
“You don’t think I’m angry? After what Chuck did, after what he took from me? He killed Jack.” 15x02

When in Rome...
Pairing: Rowena x reader
Summary: Your and Rowena’s moment of fun is ruined when an alternate world hunter starts making unreasonable demands.
A/N: Set after 13x21.
Editor: @miss-moon-guardian
*****
Things were hectic at the bunker, and if it wasn't for your and Rowena's tiny, same-private space, you would have gone insane. The two of you settled on a pair of chairs by the library, invisible to the swarm of people around you. It was more for your benefit like hers; Rowena could handle herself amongst people just fine, having done so for almost four hundred years.
As an introvert, you were finding it difficult. There was too much noise, too many people. They were like ants, swarming you, surrounding you, technically harmless but not enough for you to let your guard down. They may not have wished you harm, but the majority of them were still hunters. As such, they couldn't be trusted. Just because Rowena had helped them didn't mean they posed no threat. The two of you were witches, and that was enough for them to want you dead.
You were supposed to be on your way home by now. With the rift taken care of and everyone back home and safe, you and Rowena had done your part. But there were still a few things the Winchester needed help with and Sam had asked Rowena to stay for a while longer. She agreed, and thus you were stuck. You weren't going to leave her here alone, the only witch in a sea of humans. Leaving her alone had gotten her brutally tortured and murdered by Lucifer the year before, and from then on the two of you had agreed to stick together as much as you could. Where one went, the other followed.
"You have to work on your pronunciation," Rowena said. You were having difficulty with a spell and had asked her to help you out. Anything to pass the time.
"Gaelic is hard," you said.
"It is," Rowena agreed, sympathetic. She was a great teacher, endlessly patient, quick to calm you down every time you got into one of your I-quit moods. "Would it help if I wrote down the phonetics for you?"
"Yes, please!"
She smiled. "Alright." You handed her the piece of paper the spell was written on. She took a pen from the coffee table and started scribbling on the back. "When we get home, we're starting Gaelic lessons again."
"Okay." You'd handled Latin just fine, but could never grasp Gaelic. It was a difficult language to learn. Pronouncing it was all but impossible. "There's a language school in town. Maybe I should sign up for Gaelic lessons."
Rowena looked at you, deadpan, serious. "Don't insult me."
You grinned, which prompted a smile to break free on her mouth. "Just kidding. You're a good teacher."
She raised an eyebrow. "Just good?"
"Great. Awesome. Gorgeous." Her face lit up; the way to Rowena's heart was through flattery. "Sexy. Lovely. Adorable."
"Adorable?" she questioned.
"Most adorable." You booped her nose, and she scrunched up her face, confirming your words. Adorable. Adorablest. Goodness, you loved her! "God, you're so precious!"
She playfully smacked your arm, cheeks flaming, red as her hair. "Am not."
You pouted. "Ow! No violence!"
"Then behave."
"So mean."
"That's right. I'm mean. Not adorable, and certainly not precious."
"Sure." Your tone was dripping with sarcasm. Rowena rolled her eyes with all the drama of a theater actress, a practiced, seasoned one. "Think I'll ever be as powerful as you?"
The thought came to you out of nowhere, though it wasn't the first time you'd pondered it. Rowena was a powerful witch. One of the most powerful witches in the world. Was it possible for you to acquire such power? Birth hadn't gifted you nearly half of it, but was it possible to amplify what you had? Was practice and studying enough? Or would you forever be a regular witch, no different than any other in the crowd?
You were okay with being ordinary, but it would be a lie to say you didn't aspire to be like Rowena. The woman could make gods fall to their knees, could make archangels tremble in their vessels. One word, and what she wanted was hers. Who wouldn't want to be like her?
Many witches would kill for a chance to study under her. You were dating her. All you had to do was ask, and all her knowledge, gathered through centuries of hardship, was yours.
You just needed skill to harness it.
"Aye," Rowena said without a moment's hesitation. Completely and utterly sure of her response, as if you'd asked if the sky was blue or if bees made honey. She just knew it, and she was certain of it, and it made your heart swell up with warmth. "You're a natural-born witch, just like me. You're skilled, and you work hard." A smirk grazed her lips. "You have a great teacher, after all. I don't see why you wouldn't be like me. Power is taken, not given. Remember that, dear. I was born with potential, just like you. It was up to me what I did with it, and I made the most with it because why wouldn't I? It was mine for the taking."
She made it sound so easy. So effortless. Want? Take. Have. The end. If only you were gifted with such confidence. If only you were so sure of your capabilities. You weren't a bad witch by any means, but your power was still raw. Untamed. You still struggled. In comparison to Rowena, you were a peasant.
To be fair, almost every witch was a peasant in comparison to her, but that didn't make you feel any better about yourself.
"You're really good at pep talks, you know that?" you joked, trying to lighten the glum mood that befell you. No use beating yourself up over something trivial. After all, it was just magic. Your magic, that worked perfectly fine the way it was. However much you wanted it, you didn't need limitless power. You weren't helpless; you could defend yourself if you were in need. You could fight. You could have fun. So what if you couldn't seek out and kill reapers? It didn't make you any less of a witch, no matter what your insecurities said.
"Shut up!" Rowena said, a traitorous giggle — one of the most adorable, precious sounds she could make — escaping her mouth.
"You should pursue it as a career," you teased.
It earned you a glare that had to have killed before. The kind that scared everyone but you because you knew her enough to know she was all bark and no bite. A yappy puppy that loved to put on an act in attempts to be tough, all the while melting into a puddle at the softest touch.
You pecked the tip of her nose and blew her a kiss as she shot you another glare. The corners of her mouth twitched; she kept it shut, lips a thin line, giggles begging for freedom that would never come.
"You know what my favorite spell is?" Your eyes wandered to a bookshelf across from you, right behind Rowena. You focused on the spine of a random book; a leather-bound one, with neat writing and intricate lines trailing around the letters. As old as you and Rowena combined, possibly older. Beautiful in that way old, well-loved books were. Your hands rose up in the air, palms open, and you said, "Liber."
Magic stirred within you, a warm, comforting rush of delight, and the book shot out from the shelf, straight into your waiting hands. Your mouth dissolved into a grin as you clutched the book to your chest, heart brimming with pride, with wonder. No matter how many times you performed the same spell, it never ceased to amaze you.
"Lazy-arse," Rowena commented.
You shrugged. "Why should I get up when I can just say the word — Liber—" you glanced at another book, and it, too, jumped into your hands "—and voila! It's here."
Rowena shook her head. "I should have never taught you that spell."
"Hey!" you protested. "I'm a practical girl."
"You're a lazy girl."
"You say that like it's a bad thing."
She sighed, shaking her head.
"It's fun and you know it! Liber!" This time it was a journal, written almost a century ago by some Man of Letters. You set it on your lap, atop the other two books. Rowena couldn't help it — she chuckled, and you shot her a smug glance. "Told ya."
"It's not—"
"Could you stop?"
The two of you looked up, startled by the unknown voice. A man was staring at you. He was tall, hair a scruffy brown, clothes hanging on him like curtains — Sam and Dean's borrowed flannel, too big for his skinny frame.
Rowena frowned. "Beg pardon?"
"Could you stop doing magic?" His voice was strained. Politeness as fake as the smile he was trying to put on. "Please."
"We're not doing anything bad," you said, baffled by the request. Unsure how to approach it. "We're just having fun."
He swallowed. Cleared his throat. Swallowed again. "Could you please not do it?"
Why did that please sound so accusatory? So insulting? As if he wanted to call you a bad word and opted for a pleasantry instead, hoping you wouldn't notice.
"Why should we not?" Rowena asked, daring him to shed the mask and say exactly what was on his mind. Challenging him the way she always did, never one to back down.
"It's making me uncomfortable," the man said.
Rowena raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?"
"We're not doing anything to you," you said. You didn't even know his name. Up until now, you'd never seen him before in your life. Plenty of people had rushed in through the gate; you were more focused on Rowena, tired, at the end of her strengths, than the swarms of strangers bursting in through the rift.
"I don't like magic."
The man's cheeks flushed, a faint tint of shame staining them red. It was hard to believe he had any shame, saying things like that. For all you knew, it was as fake as everything else about him.
"Or witches." Instantly, pulling on a ridiculous smile, he added, "No offense."
People always said that, as if the phrase somehow made the blatantly offensive thing less offensive. As if it made it okay just because someone said (and lied through their teeth) they didn't mean it.
You stared at him, flabbergasted. Rowena's face was the picture of offense, but there was a flicker of amusement in the small smile on her mouth. She'd heard it all before. All the worst insults, she knew by heart. Nothing surprised her anymore. The audacity of the man, though, made her want to curse him right then and there (you could see it in her eyes, the desire to let her magic roam free, to unleash it upon him), but she kept herself in check. No need to make a scene — yet — over an insolent man.
"I don't mind you… doing whatever it is you do," he said. "Just, please, don't do it in front of me."
"Then don't look," Rowena said simply.
He tilted his head. "What?"
"If our magic bothers you so much, don't look at it. Surely you are able to look away?"
A nervous smile. "In my world, witches—" the word was spat out as if it were dirty, foul "—don't hang around hunters. And they don't use their magic around us, if they know what's good for them."
Was that a threat?
"This isn't your world, is it?" Rowena said, cold as ice. Tone a thinly-veiled threat.
"I'm just saying I'm not used to seeing magic being used so openly," the man said with an innocent shrug.
You couldn't resist a retort. "And we're not used to being threatened so openly." Two could play this game.
"I'm not threatening you."
"Yes, you are." You weren't going to back down, either. Rowena had taught you well. Alone, you would have cowered, maybe ran away, but with her there, you had nothing to fear. She wouldn't let anything happen to you. She wouldn't let a stranger — an ungrateful hunter — lay a finger on you. "Leave us alone."
He held up his hands, a feigned surrender. "I'm not doing anything to you. I just want you to stop using magic around me."
Looking him straight in the eyes, you held out a hand to your side and exclaimed, "Liber!" The book — a random paperback — flew perfectly into your palm. Not taking your eyes off the man, you laid it on the others in your lap. Does this bother you? your gaze said. Challenged. Dared. Does it make you uncomfortable?
It apparently did for he shifted his feet awkwardly and took a large breath. "Please, don't do that. I don't want you any harm. I just don't want to be around magic."
"You're the one who approached us," you pointed out.
A gulp. "Like I said, in my world—"
Rowena cut him off. "Shall we find you a way to go back?"
He stared, baffled. "What?"
"You seem to miss your world. Would you like us to help you go back?"
"Wha-that's not what I'm saying!"
"Witches fear you in your world, do they not? Isn't that what you want?"
"I don't… that's not what this is about. I don't want you to fear me!" The tone of his voice, his demeanor, the flicker in his eyes said otherwise. "Just stop using magic! How hard is that?"
"You didn't mind our magic when it kept the rift open for you and your people to come here," you said. "Maybe we should've let it close and left you in that war-torn shithole."
A vein on his forehead popped, face flushing an angry red. "I didn't ask for your help!"
"Why'd you come here, then? You could've stayed home. No magic there."
"You don't know what it's like to see everything you've ever known destroyed. The people you grew up with dead. Your home shattered to pieces."
"Sounds horrible." It truly did. "Seems you're better off here. With witches."
"I'm not used to your kind."
"Get used to us, then."
"Your kind is unnatural." He spat it as if it were filth.
There we go. "So you do have a problem with witches." Surprise, surprise.
"I don't want you here," he said. As if his opinion held weight. As if he had any say in the matter.
You couldn't hold back a laugh. "Sam and Dean are our friends." Acquaintances? Allies? Who was counting anymore? "We've been here long before you. If that bothers you, why don't you leave? You're living here for free. You're wearing Sam and Dean's clothes and eating their food. You don't get to make any demands."
"Who are you to talk to me like that?" he spat. "You're just a witch!"
"And you're an ungrateful bastard!"
"Watch your mouth!"
"Or what?" Rowena said. "What are you going to do, boy?"
The hunter leaned in as if to whisper a secret. "Sam and Dean won't always be around."
"That's right," Rowena told him, looking him straight in the eyes. Making her own threat clear. "They won't."
He laughed. "You're pretty feisty for a witch. Knew a few of them just like you. At the end, they were all begging for mercy."
"I don't beg."
"Yet."
"Leave us alone!" you shouted, purposely loud, having had enough of this. You'd agreed to stay on Sam's behest, but you'd never signed up to be harassed. You weren't going to let some lowly hunter threaten you.
All the chatter in the Bunker instantly stopped. Heads turned your way. Eyes observed you, curious, confused. The hunter froze at the sudden attention, caught off guard.
"Is everything okay?" Sam asked, walking over.
"This guy's threatening us," you said.
"What?" He eyed the hunter, who put his hands up.
"She's lying."
"She is not," Rowena said. "This nit won't leave us be."
"Is that true?" Sam asked him.
The hunter sighed. "They were using magic. I just told them to knock it off."
"We were just having fun," you said.
"And I told you I don't want you to use magic around me!"
"It was a simple bloody spell to pick up books!" Rowena snapped. "We weren't hexing anyone!"
Sam looked from the two of you over to him. "What's the problem?"
"The problem is, they're witches!" the hunter said. "How can you let them into your house?"
"They're friends," Sam said defensively.
"They're witches." His face twisted with disgust. "And they were using magic. Doesn't that bother you?"
"No. They weren't doing anything wrong."
"Their entire existence is wrong."
"Fuck you!" you spat.
"Okay," Sam said, holding up his hands. "Okay, let's all calm down."
It was easy for him to say. He wasn't the one being insulted.
"I want them gone," the hunter said.
Sam turned to him. "They're not going anywhere. Like I said, they're friends, and we need them."
"I don't need them."
"That's fine, but this is Dean and I's home. They're welcome here." He pointed up the stairs. "If you don't like it, there's the door."
Warmth swelled in your chest. Rowena smirked victoriously.
The hunter was flabbergasted. "Are you seriously siding with witches over a hunter?"
"Yeah," Sam said without a flicker of a doubt. "I am. They've helped us a lot. If it weren't for them, the rift would have closed and none of us would be here right now. I understand your reservations, but they're not bad people."
"You're crazy! This world is crazy!" Sam shrugged. The hunter rolled his eyes. "Suit yourself. I'm not hanging around witches."
He slid up the stairs and slammed the door on his way out so hard the walls shook. You sighed in relief. Good riddance.
"What was that all about?" Dean asked, emerging from the kitchen with a sandwich in his hands.
"One of the other world guys didn't like our rules," Sam said.
"Sucks to be him," Dean commented, took a bite out of his sandwich, and went back to the kitchen.
"You guys okay?" Sam asked.
"Aye," Rowena said. "A wee hunter doesn't scare us."
"Sorry about that. Most of the guys are really nice. I swear, this won't happen again."
You sure hoped so.
"Don't worry about us, Samuel. We're big girls."
You nodded, though it felt nice to know the Winchesters — for once in your life— were completely on your side.
"You're always welcome here," he said.
"We know," Rowena said. "Do you happen to have any more of that scotch from last night?"
Sam laughed. "Sure. I'll get you some."
"It would be much appreciated."
You quirked up an eyebrow. "Seriously?"
She shrugged. "That nincompoop exhausted me. I need a drink."
You supposed that was fair. Maybe you could snag a glass as well.
And, hopefully, you could head home soon.
As welcoming as the Winchesters were, there was no place like home.

(1) Some people mentioned that Cas's special happy moment could be about him finding (heterosexual) love- but that's not something he hasn't allowed himself to do before. I mean, he's had a thing with Meg and the 9x03 chick. The wording of "give yourself permission to be happy" resonates with me because it's a phrase I hear commonly in LGBT stories and it's usually related to the experience of finally accepting and being true to one's repressed sexuality.
(2) I agree with you about hating the option of Cas getting out of the deal before the Empty gets him. Basically since our expectation for drama has been higher than ever since 14x08 and that outcome would be absolutely anticlimactic. Also because he was determined to hide the deal and I don't see how he could change his mind about not telling the brothers about it in just a few episodes. Jack wouldn't betray his trust either, not after Cas saved his life.
(3) If theyd planned to mirror Deans S3 arc, the Empty would've just told Cas "I give you 1 year left to live". But it purposefully focused on the question of Cas's happiness. If they weren't going to answer "whats he not allowing himself to experience?", why bring it up? If the answer were "being happy with his family", they wouldn't have shown him being joyous w/them (& surviving) right after. They don't care about how repetitive the Luci storyline is- why wouldn't they repeat Cas's S12 death?
ALL OF THIS
Just on your 1st point though - Cas technically hasn’t allowed himself heterosexual love either - Meg was one sided. It is not canon that Cas returned her feelings. The most I can say canonically on his part is that there was a curiosity and fondness for her due to her taking care of him at a vulnerable time. Others may disagree with me here. Meg used Cas for protection initially and apparently grew to care for him, but it is not canonically “love” and never was. April was straight up rape by deception. Again, on Cas’s part it was curiosity and a desire for comfort which he mistranslated into sex (because the writers played it for jokes when the actual situation was super SUPER gross).
So Cas has not allowed himself to experience heterosexual love. The closest he has ever come to heterosexual love is arguably with Hannah actually. Though he rejected her advances pretty quickly since his focus was entirely on Dean at the time.
Having said all this (and sorry nonny I agree with everything else but I had to correct you there because connecting Cas x Meg and Cas x April with the word “love” at all really squicks me) I LOVE what you say about the specific language used resonating with you as an LGBTQA+ coming out story. Because you hit the nail on the head. “Allowing yourself to be happy” is a classic queer phrase to relate to queer people finally finding love. It just adds yet another delicious layer to the line and to the overall coding of Castiel’s journey on the show as that of a queer person trying to come to terms with their identity (which makes the Empty’s deal even more horrible and heartbreaking).
On point 2, yes 100% agreed. Not following through with the deal would be anticlimactic in my opinion. Now we have the promo for 14x09 which blatantly calls back to Cas’s deal in his awkwardness after Dean’s “no strings attached” speech, proves the writers are keeping the focus on it though so they could potentially still have a quick turn around with this story. I personally don’t want Dean to find out about the deal at all until the deal comes to fruition, as that is far more dramatic and romantically coded (star crossed lovers trope).
Point 3, AGREED. The language was very particular, very specific and encourages the audience to ask the question of what it would take for Cas to allow himself happiness. it indicates that he is currently holding back, so the obvious question there is WHY.
I do get what you mean about repetitive story lines such as Lucifer yeah, but they don’t tend to go the whole main character death route too often as a season finale. If he died again, I can see it being like Sam in 13x21 where he is dead but then returns by episode end. I don’t think we will go into the summer hiatus with Cas dead again. I may have mused on this concept at first, but now I find it doubtful. I think the season cliffhanger this year will be something unleashed and someone in peril, rather than someone dead. But that is pure speculation.

Shades- Luke is obsessed (more than me)
This time I want to focus your attention on a simple detail: in season 12 Luke always, I mean always, looks at Penelope. Not just in the main moments, when they are together, alone (like in 12x1, 12x4 with Roxy, 12x5, 12x14, 12x17). No, I mean really really always. And he is, often, the only one who smirk or laughs at one of her jokes.
I’ll show the moments I found. If you have noticed another that I forgot, please, tell me.
N.B. : if you are not crazy as me, maybe it would be better if you didn’t read this.
1- 12x3
Ok, Luke. You have just met Emily, but you can’t take your eyes off Penelope? Seriously? Maybe you’re a little jealous that someone else could hug her? Your time will come. Be patient (really patient).
2- 12x3
This time Penelope doesn’t make a really joke… but her rant is enough to make Luke smirks. You notice, he’s the only one.
3- 12x3
He can’t see her but still smiles when he hears “Fire when ready”.
4- 12x4
Even if Luke is out of focus, can you see his smile? And he also shakes his head for a moment.
5- 12x6
Every time he feels just a little sign of weakness in her voice… he must look at her.
6- 12x6
And how many times he turns his head to follow her while she goes away?
7- 12x6
A little smirk.
8- 12x7
Luke has the habit to look in the direction where she came out, and staring off for a while (he does the same in 13x5).
9- 12x8
Can someone just smile in this way? With tiny eyes and open mouth.
10- 12x8
He is so obsessed and stills think about “Especially you, newbie” that he looks at her without a pause and also takes her remote control, just to get her attention; but she puts the folder for Luke on the table, instead of passes it directly. It’s the only time that he looks away in this micro sequence.
11- 12x8
Open mouth like a fish. Luke, are you not used to Garcia’ ways yet?
Or maybe you’re thinking about another couple of… strawsberries.
12- 12x10
Ok, Newbie McNewberson it’s not your favorite nickname… but it still came out from her lips, so you just love it, don’t you?
13- 12x12
My favorite micro-scene of Garvez ever. Ok, Luke turns around without reason, he feels, senses her presence. And, obviously, he smiles.
Then he notices her expression.
And this changes his expression too and also his mood.
He is just so sad.
And he follows her with his eyes and whole body as long as possible. Ok, Garcia is a ray of sunshine but her mood shouldn’t change yours, if you two are just co-workers. Walker is not so sad, so worried as Luke.
14- 12x14
I’ve talked about this enough. No, it’s not true. I will never tired of it. Short version: Luke is the only one who looks at her from the beginning (if you want to deepen, see my other rants).
15- 12x14
Smile with closed eyes.
16- 12x14
“Yes, he can, Newbie” = smirk.
17- 12x14
Open mouth.
18- 12x14
Even about this frame I’ve talked enough, no? The others are desperate too, but just two look at each other (Luke first).
19- 12x16
Ok, just see the difference between Walker and Luke reactions before Penelope’ joke/flirt. And the subject it’s Walker, this time. But he looks at Luke. They all know that she did it for make Luke upset?
20- 12x21
Weird gaze.
21-12x21
That moment when he sees her.
22-12x22
Welcome to the green-eyed monster. Nice to meet you, Luke!
Bonus (I know I said I would have analysed just Season 12, but I can’t stop. You can, just do it):
23- 13x2
Old habits die hard.
24- 13x3
The gazes of a man proud of his woman.
25- 13x3
When you are thinking how could be to rub her lamp with your cool hand…
26- 13x5
When she is sad and you can’t do anything, you can just keeping think about it.
27- 13x5
When she apologizes for no reason.
28- 13x10
So rarely you don’t laugh at one of her joke, don’t you, buddy? And, try to hide better your feelings. JJ is watching you (as always).
29- 13x11
Flirting with her isn’t enough for you, right?
30- 13x19
Can’t stop to be surprised at her jokes.
30- 13x21
And again, and again, and again.
31- 14x1
She is just a miracle, come down to earth. (Sorry for the number of the pics, but you know I can’t do otherwhise).
32- 14x3
That time when you didn’t measure up and broken your promise…
33- 14x6
And when you did your worst mistake, and even after, doing nothing to fix it.
34- 14x8
And that time when you remembered how much you loved when she was the queen of ice with you.
35- 14x8
You want to be upset, but you can’t. Welcome back, smirk!
36- 14x8
Really you believe that you two are just perfect together in workplace?
37- 14x8
The wait is over.
38- 14x11
You do remember that you are talking about your girlfriend, don’t you?
39-
As above.
40- 14x14
When you finally say the truth. and the fact you are not alone can’t stop you to flirt with her.
41- 14x15
You always need to put her in the middle.
42- 14x15
When she has just said “we were waiting for you” but in your mind it sounded more like “I was waiting for you”.
43- 14x15
And finally, you hold the miracle in your arms.
44- 15x1
The ease with which you agree. The proud you feel while she is talking, like it was in part your responsibility.
45- 15x2

14x02 watching notes
I appear to be fully booked for the whole weekend through to Tuesday so this may be the only thing I post about the episode until then, hope you all are having as much fun as Cas will at the party he’s apparently gonna throw to prove he’s cooler than all the other angels.
-
*readjusts my beanbag chair from Professional Sloucher to Serious Typing Mode* It's 5:13am and I've been awake 45 minutes watching this thing download and paused the new Adventure Zone episode for this... Mittens assures me it's well-recieved, so I'll go ahead and assume we burned enough sage to ward off the worst of whatever happens to their episodes...
Or, of course, Speight is directing.
So, expectations are pretty nebulous, because at this point in the story I really don't have demands, hopes or fears, except maybe that Buckleming don't handle or if they do, don't maul having Dean back. I DO miss Dean. It's very possible if he showed up in this episode everyone loves it because Dean-o is back.
I've never voluntarily called him Dean-o before. I think Gabriel's influence over the season is contagious.
Speaking of which... *hits play*
-
Are we getting a recap of Christian Keyes getting smushed because he, also, is alive? (er, the vessel, I mean) It would balance out Nick a great deal but it's also almost too much to ask I feel
-
14x01 recap: good, no sign of wirework. 14x02 recap: bad, everyone is levitating.
-
Also hilarious - no recap whatsoever of the past episode, because we have entered the Buckleming AU. Which is either Speight's shade or Buckleming's hubris that they don't need no canon to tell them what to do.
-
Nice. Creepy. Good start, sir. 10/10 would immediately go over and try and play that cursed piano despite my fear I would die instantly.
-
asdhdjsfkdsf the detail that Mikey took his hat off and a dramatic shot of it sitting there with the same reverent detail as the other spooky things from the rest of the intro shots
-
Interestingly the vampire that Mikey is bleeding is presented in much the same way as Lucifer was in 13x21, left to just stand there and dribble essence from the neck which making small choking noises. This is either stuck pig imagery, or the suggestion from unknown powers that be directing this to suggest that the entire Lucifer concept is being bled dry by wringing Nick out of it too.
-
This isn't going to end well.
While he's doing that, I would like to ask if that's a smidge of his own grace, or if he went and found Metatron's or something.
It also is very reminiscent of Lucifer creating demons - experimenting and playing to create the worst of the worst. Alastair and Lilith had white eyes and Lilith could do some sort of evil smite. The first demon, and the only one we've ever seen do that. Fandom long headcanoned that Lucifer used his own grace to make her, and it makes sense in a weird way that as he gets more corrupt, so do his creations - from pure white-eyed demons to murky yellow eyes to red and pitch black. Also: get more stupid. Azazel is the best and smartest, and each YED we met, if we assume they're in age order... Asmodeus is so dumb as a pile of rocks that you have to assume Lucifer realised that whatever he did to perfect the recipe in Azazel was tapering off and the good good stuff was over, so no more YEDs before you find out what Asmodeus's little sibling would have been like. His next known canonical attempt to make a demon isn't using his own grace, but using the Mark of Cain to corrupt, er, Cain.
Mikey is falling into this exact same nonsense from the opposite direction of his brother, AU or otherwise - humans are bad, corrupt evil things are better because they're less complicated and as an angel, humans give me a headache. Michael seems at least to have believed that there were good people - if he could just flipping find them - and that if he smote all the sinners maybe some good people would be left. It's coming at the same conclusion from opposite problems - he has earnestly sought out the best in humanity and then ended up scouring even the worst like Kip and those killers he mentioned, and finally settled on monsters, Eve's corruptions of humanity into bloodthirsty creatures motivated only by hunger. And now he's playing with them and using his own power to corrupt them further.
-
PS: Eve is going to be SO PISSED
-
That IS a very effective way to smite a vampire.
-
He's very clean and efficient and while he's "getting his hands dirty" in the metaphorical sense, there's a very careful remove in the actions we see on screen, of him standing watching very impartially.
-
He also sounds a shade more Dean-ish in that quip, and let's just go ahead and assume that the quip unlocked Dean a lil, or else that being in this vessel so long is beginning to wear on Michael - the influence goes both ways, and it's like seeing Captain Holt from B99 crack and quip, except this is the lawful evil version.
Plus, the flippy flippy and all... He's getting comfortable. I bet Michael might have been able to do SOME cool flip with a knife but trust me, you're possessing the second most blade flippy guy on this planet, second only to his husband, so that's a full perk of being in the Michael Sword and nothing else.
-
No one has asked Cas how he feels about AU Bobby, which is weird because he and Bobby were BFFs back in the day.
Trust me, it happened off screen. Sometimes Cas flapped up smelling like whiskey and cigarette smoke and Dean would be like dammit did you just come from poker night with Bobby and I wasn't invited?
(True behind the scenes details from season 5)
-
AUBobby wants a beach vacation as much as Dean does, though. Well, he wants to hunt by the sea.
-
Okay I never knew "veracity" could be used as a synonym for "voracity" but google assures me that people are literally just really lazy about it because I THOUGHT AUBobby meant voracity, but he SAID veracity, and I was like, why is he saying angels aren't known for telling the truth??? and then my other part of my brain that is more sensible but works slower caught up with the context... This language is stupid. I apologise to second language speakers for that line. It was said "veracity" but it means "voracity" because we are a garbage culture, as english speakers as a whole.
So yeah, angels aren't known for their partying, no offence, party!Cas.
This is now 2x between here and 13x20 that Cas has been directly accused of not partying, plus how he went to a party in 13x22 even if he stood stock still the entire time, so I have to assume that the rise of party!Cas is gaining narrative and symbolic momentum and we WILL see him kicking back by the end of the season.
"None taken, I tend to agree with you." TEND, as in, other angels are stuffy assholes who never party, but I, party!Cas, have stood with my arms by my side and a stoic expression, all through your welcome to paradise!earth party, so *I* am in fact, cool.
-
He misses those poker nights. Ellen and Jo taught him well.
-
AUBobby has a perhaps Jim Beaver-honed response to "it's Dean" when worrying about what's up with it. Or, of course, as much as he may have come to like the guy since the AU rescue, this was still a lil test of why they had to be concerned, leaving it to him as the one guy in the room who is still getting to know him, to say what is unspoken by everyone else.
-
Sam then prompts Cas to give us some clunky exposition on why he can't come, because Michael will sense him.
Buckleming, you literally are the ones who say Cas down in a chair and had him tattooed to ward him against angels. That was your thing. You did that. You.
It may be a sign of improvement that Cas is being left behind with specific explanations for why, but it's still hard to read Misha's expression as between Cas Is Sad He Can't Go Near Dean, which is crazy he's not putting up a fight and going anyway, and I Have To Say This Line To Explain It And They Don't Teach You How To Say Bad Exposition In Drama School.
"Yeah sorry"
This deserved at least 2 more lines of contention and scowling, or, of course, Sam proposing this to Cas on the spot, or Cas himself regretfully announcing that he had to do it to give them the best chance in a self-sacrificing way, then rationalising it with having to stay behind to babysit.
-
Cas just said Jack wasn't an infant. He's a year old. He's barely even a toddler yet. You really read that many parenting books and don't know that?
Okay yeah. Anyway lumping Nick and Jack together as charges to watch - a suggestion somehow that they're a joint burden? It demeans Jack to Nick's place, in the context. Cas hasn't actually had a great deal of on-screen parenting to Jack except like 2 nice moments basically bookending the entire time they've both been alive on the show in 13x06 and 14x01, and I'm going to have to chalk this up to a lil anxiety about bonding with the sulky teen Jack that it's something Cas now feels apprehension about. He's the father who's rarely home and clocked in the least time nurturing Jack directly, while Mary has a wild lead and Sam and Dean both also a good chunk of it, with Sam pulling weeks ahead of Dean, of course.
A sense of Dad Who Is Always At Work Forced To Bond With Child While Mom(s) Are Gone, to use some heteronormative tropes, feels like it's at play. The dad who is always away on business trips is forced to spend time at home over Christmas with the kid while the other parents are on a wild vacation to Florida... What fun scrappy bonding experiences do they get up to?! :D
Of all the tropes flying around, to stick to heteronormativity, Cas has always been "the father" to Jack while others around him waver between maternal roles or not. But even in the very start, he "completed" the parental "set" with Kelly.
Is that enough airquotes to be clear I support non-traditional family structures? :P
But it puts Cas also in a place of having some of these toxic masculinty types of fatherhood, of being away for work all the time and not putting in the work for the kid or being too eager to fight and sacrifice himself than to be there. Hard as he works to protect them all, his connection IS that of the guardian angel who watches over, the one sworn to protect, who most often talks about his bond to Jack under that obligation and that promise to Kelly, the sense of a duty to protect Jack, but very little in the way Sam especially fell hard on the side of "nurture" in the nature vs nurture debate and put in all the emotional labour associated with the mother in traditional parenting structures.
(This was good for Sam to do considering Dean had done it for him, and because Dean did it for him - being both mother and father - he's largely exempt and can dip in and out of how he parents Jack with impunity, given he had his moment about this in 12x22, days before Jack was born, and was therefore freed from character arcs grappling with it in the same way)
-
Cas is like "Nick is a MESS" same, buddy.
"He was housing, he deserves a shot at rebuilding his life" Sam is talking about himself here, which is weird because Nick was the topic of discussion a moment ago
I feel weird that Sam is admonishing Cas here, because Cas has not lain on the floor and thrown a tantrum about not going to save Dean, as ungrateful as he is being about babysitting Nick... it's making a weird conflict between Cas and Sam which is now veering into a philosophical argument about Nick, which makes me feel that if this is not just weird Buckleming dialogue issues where they find it hard not to write things as a conflict, Sam and Cas haven't had the rosy bro bonding time together while Dean is gone that it seemed, or that, like with Sam snapping at Mary about her optimism, Sam's in a Mode about this where he's on his last rag with everyone secretly because of lack of sleep. And Chief!Sam may also be struggling with being an authority figure among his own family, as every single one of them "outranks" him in age, parenthood, experience or scowliness, and Sam once described himself as "the least of all of you" meaning Bobby and Cas specifically of the people who in this room he'll find himself naturally deferring to. Sam's leadership is natural among the AU peeps but perhaps a struggle that with his family, he's still the leader, but there's no Dean to have the final word, and that in itself is an awful reminder, when he finds himself being the last word on a subject without Dean's input.
I have to assume this is like 5am and AUBobby showed up early to work to see Mary and the rest of the AU peeps aren't around yet
-
Cas then throws in the line about how all he can see is the supreme agent of evil, which is fuckin hilarious that it was Sam's trauma yesterday and we know angels are much more likely to relate to the glowy blob possessing a face, and anyway most of Cas's worst Lucifer trauma came from being POSSESSED by him, seeing him wearing Sam's face, or being beat up by Vince fucking Vincente. You only really ever saw Lucifer as Nick in 12x23 and the last few episodes of season 13, bar like one encounter back in 5x10. That is a very very recent association.
Unless, of course, he's still MIGHTILY PISSED that Lucifer killed off 2/3rds of his poker game and that's where his "supreme evil" trauma comes from.
Let's go with that.
-
Do you think Eugenie forgot that Lucifer was an hallucination in season 7, and also that Cas was dead during that?
(don't @ me about him seeing hallucifer in 7x17, he said in 7x21 that he stopped seeing hallucifer pretty quickly and I'm going with Edlund canon when in doubt :P)
-
"You talking about my dad again"
Jack. Hon. You have absolutely no relation whatsoever to Nick, except via whatever family line ties him extremely vaguely to Sam as a similar vessel of Lucifer. I don't even know how to describe where that puts him on your fucked up family tree, but trust me, you don't need to worry. Biologically, you are the son of an ex-president of the united states.
But yeah, snarky!teen Jack is here in full force. I'm not sure I'm ready to deal with the baby's angsty melodrama years :'D
-
Do you think
and I ask this hypothetically while full of dread that I am right
do you think Eugenie has forgotten that Jack is not Nick's biological son
-
Jack getting the good good framing of standing with his back to the war room, trapped in the library, as he's grounded. This central framing demands the eye to seek out wings, but in this case they're kinda furled behind him, if you see them as the dark shadows of the room beyond.
Of course the war room/library symbolism is always a thing, that action is the former, home the the latter, so this is clever to show Jack's desire, but also that he is stuck, and we see the bar patterned lights on the floor in the war room which are used as prison imagery. Jack's effectively locked out of the war room with a baby gate.
-
"Let's move," Sam says, with a virile pump of his gun, leaving Cas and Jack to feel impotent at home.
-
Sam does not get the dick imagery often enough
-
Blargh Nick again. Hello fuckface. Listen, I just wanna say before we get into this scene, that I've almost universally seen Mark P eyerolled at but said "at least he's a really good actor so the scenes were really good even if he sucks as a person and we hate Lucifer". I do not agree. I think he's a ham who over-acts and it was annoying as Lucifer but by this point expected and had at least transitioned slowly, but seeing Nick do the whole routine of standing up from bed, and then blowing on his stab wound and wincing and fanning it? That whole thing was just... too much for me. Nick should have been still and quiet and sad, but as soon as he started doing that it harked back to Lucifer in 13x13 when he was cold and hungry and over-acting rubbing his poor empty tum tum and rubbing his freezing arms. What made Mark P so good in season 5 was that Lucifer had a slow, cold and STILL menace to him, that while he might have gestured widely and been violent, especially in his dramatic scenes he was still and menacing. That's all gone by now and he acted Lucifer as a clown, and fair enough as an acting choice I guess when this isn't my favourite character or actor, but now it's salt in the wound that Nick was supposed to come across sad and vulnerable, and instead of bestowing some gravitas on him and taking us back to the start and actually TRYING, Mark P fell into clowning as if he thinks doing these funny things is what his fans who are apparently out there want to see, and my stretched to breaking point lie I repeated to myself about "oh he's a good actor at least" shattered because he was just playing the fool again, over-acting as if to gain cheap sympathy points, when his stillness and sadness and NOT overacting was literally the only way to have pulled Nick off without it being annoying.
This is a cake and eat it, well Lucifer is dead but I'm still here, and now I will act almost exactly the same, kind of dealio and I'm pissed and not standing by that self-comforting lie any more because every single step of the Lucifer journey so far since 11 we've placated ourselves with various phrases and concepts to make it okay to do all this but keeping Nick around is where the story breaks and so too does my patience for forgiving it.
-
*Cas employs his Anti Nick Shoulders* I deeply approve of these shoulders
-
Could they not give Nick, like, a sudoku book or something? He is just sitting here wallowing in having been Lucifer.
-
Omg Cas is getting to use this to actually talk about himself. I'm actually liking this. Cas self-reflection is a wonderful thing. Everyone can relate to Nick, even if they hate it. Every single person will file in here and talk about themselves to Nick at some point or another.
Nick's like "why am I heeere" and Mr Giant Teddy Bear is like "I know right?"
-
Wait is Nick's son called Teddy? That was unfortunate mind-melding with BL I just did. *shiver*
Also hilarious: a chosen flashback to Nick holding a teddybear beside the crib and I swear to all that is holy that Speight is deliberately implying after reading the line "Teddy" that Nick said yes to Lucifer on behalf of his wife Sarah and this bear.
I can SEE his face making a note here about what flashback to cut to.
His sparkling eyes are reflecting off this screen so much I'm getting glare from it.
-
*Mark P cries a lot* There are a few little leaps in this conversation to get to the point too quickly but overall this wasn't a bad scene... Perhaps because Cas carried it enough with his sinscerity that Nick wailing was at least balanced and the directing matched the intensity of it all. Speight really is good at making things work and this was pretty brutal which means that the overacting is compensated for, and Cas inserted enough genuine emotion from an empathetic character.
It's all hovering unspoken about family where Nick does it for his wife, even if he regrets it now and feels like he has become a monster and is wracked with a guilt Cas can heavily relate to as it drove his season 12 early actions intensely, and his child. Cas also did it for family, and they give this definition of family where it could be anyone beloved in the family, so that platonic overlap is there between Cas and Nick's motivations. But implicit is that Nick's wife was the one that made him say yes, and Cas stands over Nick in much the way that Lucifer stood over him in 5x01 when appearing as Sarah. Cas is/was the wife in the scenario in a weird way to Dean, for whom he chose to be possessed to save from Amara, aka the monster that had come into the house and would kill his beloved ones in their beds.
-
Promo scene! Aw AUBobby and his rusty FBI skills.
-
The coroner talking about a spree killer harks to Dean's issues balancing being a serial killer with a saviour, as I talked about pre-episode with the themes connected to Dean being possessed by Michael, and channelling all the worst of him. In this case, the torture AND the wantonly killing vampires
-
God damn Mary's red suit is awesome though.
-
"neck wounds" I thought Mikey healed those? I guess I can see residual scarring on this body so maybe healing vampires isn't as neat as healing people, because corruption...
-
"Why is an archangel hunting vampires in the first place" HAVE YOU MET DEAN? This is how he blows off steam when he gets a HANGNAIL. You think being possessed by Mikey will stop him?
-
"Huh" Sam says. "huh," I say, because they actually did some Smart Detective Work to come to that conclusion and perhaps this is just because BL needed the next lead but we've never actually seen them ask this specific question about people coming to identify mystery bodies to find the next lead ever. And perhaps because even if it happens off screen it's a dead end in all their other cases, but this was still something BL wrote that put a clever concept in Sam's head, and I am at the bottom of the barrel with them when I'm complimenting them for not making the characters act like complete idiots.
The other thing is, this cuts out an entire scene of them in a motel opening a laptop and googling surveillance footage, and I don't know if they have been banned from writing the everyone sits around and googles the monster scenes, at least since they made Crowley pop in and google a photo of the president in 12x08, and then Dabb openly mocked them for it in 12x23, but it's a pacing GODSEND to have the characters act intelligent and ask questions that solve problems instead of relying on the magical answer box to tell them where to go next.
See again: low low low expectations. Whether it's Speight clean up work or they've been told off, this is great stuff, and files off a lot of the edges that make their episodes wearing on a cosmic, soul level, that between the weird content, they're also just clunky and poorly paced.
-
Cas n Jack sceeeene.
It's Jack's desk! I'm so happy!!
I asked hypothetically the other day on a promo pic and I'm so happy to see Jack has his own lil desk in the library. He looks like a kid doing his homework
my heart is swelling
with all the table meta - it's another thing where they've changed stuff around to give Jack a space, a place he calls his own in this large weird Bunker. That table had to be dragged from one of the side offices or store rooms and set up for him because it's never b een there before, but now Jack has an alcove of the library he calls his own and he can sit there and do his research... And the alcoves give a sense of an enclosed room space, something comforting and like... library womb like.
The Bunker has adopted him :')
It's so weird seeing a character in this show who habitually doesn't wear a ton of layers around the Bunker - he's been in a t-shirt with nothing over it in both episodes, grey. He's young, open, honest, but hasn't found his way yet, hasn't got a tribal colour scheme. No plaid, and has only worn beige and blue in neutral Cas colours, his main father figure in a sort of aspirational sense, even if Cas is the dad who's always out on work and not there to raise his son.
Jack's identified as human in 13x23 but in a way he is a homunculous - the concept of what was originally believed to be how babies formed in a sort of medieval/rennaisance time (perhaps still is by BL) that the sperm was a tiny weeny complete person and they just got put in the womb with no other input from mommy and grew there. There's definitely a weird shade of homunculous implications in how Jack's parenthood is talked of, and of course he was then born as a fully formed man, which is a sort of transliteration of this nonsense belief, but the concept that he practically was a small adult Jack and then a big adult Jack and at no point an actual baby. Even in the womb in 12x17 we saw him turn and stare at the camera, betraying a sort of primal intelligence, the idea of a bored god waiting in the womb to be born, learning and acting from within.
And only now is he sort of set up to stop being a baby and start being a man when it comes to handling adult intellectual stuff and he's not learning from scratch but is treated like he has a more solid baseline for the world around him these days. He's learned enough to join society, but not enough to have carved his place yet. It's a very strange cusp of growth, and perhaps a good metaphor for being a teenager, in a way: that you realise you have been very stupid up to this point but now you are very smart and ready to be an adult (except, unfortunately, adult peoples will look back at this unformed humonculous version of themselves with the greasy hair and poorly understood radical political opinions and whatever, and be like, WOW, I was an idiot.)
-
Oh my god are BL really going to keep writing Good Cas Lines this episode? This stuff where Cas schools Jack gently and lovingly with knowledge Jack has been up all night reading then Cas is like yeah this is stuff angels know from angel sunday school but I'll be kind about it and validate what you just read... Like, the lesson is the act of the research, more than the knowledge. It's up to Jack not to feel stupid that he did all that work and Cas was like, yeah. I knew that. I'm an angel.
-
OH MY GOD Cas is actually having the chat I wanted with Jack about how he felt when he lost his grace
*shoves a fistful of popcorn in my mouth*
Jack all hurr blurr you don't understand I want to go run to my room and slam the door because I'm a teen and I have just discovered human tragedy and angst, NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF EVER HAS SUFFERED AS I HAVE
and Cas is like, *ruffles his hair* it's okay little buddy, I too was a homunculous in season 9, which Lizzy has a weird deja vu feeling she wrote about but would not for the life of her know where to find that because it was probably buried in watching notes
-
"what did you have left?" "well I had Sam and Dean... but I had something else"
me: *clutches chest, gasps, hangs on tenterhooks*
Cas: "I had myself"
me: FLAILS WILDLY
Sorry, this isn't very meta, I've just written so much on the nature of grace and of Cas, and whether he has a soul or not still, but he is very much talking about the time when as a human he had a soul and was "himself" without his grace, and though he felt the loss of his POWER he didn't feel a loss of his CORE SELF, of who he is (which is an ongoing question they're all answering about themselves, with Jack Homunculous Winchester as the main example to channel the others through). It's really important to me that Cas has this core self, this certainty of who he is beyond his duty, his grace, everything that is forced on him by Heaven, but that this part of him who he may or may not know is his soul is there and filled with, well... Cas's nougat centre. Because Cas has been playing THAT game far longer than Jack has :P
"The basic me. As Dean would say, without all the bells and whistles"
Dean is reaching through Cas to mock him for us when we don't have him in the room to directly accuse Cas of having a harp, and I love that Cas loves Dean so much that he lets Dean drag him for having bells and whistles (which Cas will take literally) even though he's not here.
That's true love.
-
They share what is possibly the grossest smile ever and I am going to weep to see all this fondness for each other and for Dean being expressed. Like, ugh, families loving each other and being all wholesome and sweet. What is this garbage.
-
"You know, Sam and Dean... they weren't born with their expertise" yeah because they're not fuckin homunculi
Cas is basically equating Jack to going back to the start that they had, a do-over on his life, that he lived his first year as a magical all-powerful baby, but in a weird way, losing his grace makes him more settled, gives him a chance to understand himself without his power and learn that he still has a core self, a soul with all the good stuff in it, and to begin again and learn things the slow way, but a way in which he will grow more naturally and take the lessons that are needed to form the real edges to a character that turn into maturity.
"They've been at it since they were children"
and so have you. filed under: ow.
Literally no one on TFW had a normal safe happy childhood free of monsters metaphorical or otherwise.
-
Anyway Cas then reminds Jack that he has to do things slow to be as good as Sam n Dean, and moves on to it's important not who you were in your past - because this fuckin one and a bit year old already has a gritty past - but who you are and what you will do with the FUTURE. And Cas still wholeheartedly believes in Jack because of Jack once showing him a vision of the future that they might have - the happy ending, world without monsters, all that jazz that Dabb era is eyeing up hopefully.
-
Oooh Mikey's going to a partyyy.
That fuckin ring on his little finger. It's coded especially in media that he's either in a cult or gay. It's such a weird lil detail for Mikey to have added to the ensemble that I almost wonder if he smited a guy to borrow it wholecloth and took every detail. Though he's a fucking fashionista so maybe he can't resist adding a detail like this.
After all he wore dirty war-torn clothes for years in the AU, but even then had a sense of grandeur about it, an over-dramatic flair with the long coat that said that he dressed well, even for the scenario, and different, standing out from the rest of his minions.
Now he's here on paradise!earth, with all the tailors you could ask for, so he's going to dress like the lord of this planet it's begging for, in all the finery you can drape his fine sword in.
Sword does not approve of bowtie.
DEAAAN! HEY! I'VE MISSED YOU ILY
"GET OUT"
"I don't think so"
WOW, RUDE. There's rules about this, buddy!
"You can't!"
"oh but I can, because, see, I own you." It IS Michael who punches the mirror... I was certain it would be Dean, but it's Michael lashing out at his angry reflection, shattering the image of Dean. What a metaphor. In the Mark of Cain arc sometimes Dean looked at himself in shattered mirrors but it was a passive shattering. This is a statement from Michael that he can see Dean and he's shattering his entire self, refusing his right of consent - in a BL episode it's ironically hilarious so long as nothing else dub con happens, that this is the actually seriously applied good use of consent stuff. And Michael talking about owning Dean - it's that presumptiveness about others' consent that was Dean's biggest downfall in putting Gadreel in Sam, the cosmic karma lashing back out at Dean that he can't punt Michael out like Sam heroically punted Gadreel out, because Michael OWNS him. Dean is historically, cosmically, always for eons before his birth, been "the Michael Sword" - a true vessel with this guy's name inscribed on the hilt, and Michael has calmly taken full possession of his ultimate weapon, because well, why not.
UGH and then Michael takes control again by way of talking into the mirror and his reflection behaving normally because he's wrangled it back into control. A+ DIRECTION, SIR.
(Also because it's not Dean - maybe it's not so much a meta detail but the expectation might be that Dean would lash out at Michael BECAUSE he's angry and lashes out and smashes mirrors so many times, but he has no control to even move an arm to lash out... He's utterly trapped, just like Cas was tied to that chair.)
-
I love seeing Cas storming confidently around the Bunker running stuff while the others are out, being the one who is looking over Jack, taking the calls about their findings, and now dealing with Nick wandering in to angst some more. This is Cas at home and although it's still weird the AU peeps are ALL taking a day off coming into work after seeing how embedded they were in the hub, it's wonderful to see Cas here and without the AU peeps it is more cozy in the sense of being more like the home they privately kept.
-
Nick comes in like I WANT TO SOLVE MY COLD CASE THIS IS MY RANDOM DISTRACTION FROM THE PLOT
but then Cas puts his hand on his shoulder and he flicks back to Lucifer in an instant, trying to dissolve Cas in a panic from being touched. Cas is understandably completely and utterly freaked out.
And for all our talk of Rowena and Sam and their trauma from Lucifer, of course Cas has had a lot too even though I'm kinda eye-rolly about him talking about Nick as the face of all evil, of course this episode has been about his Lucifer trauma so far. It's really interesting to see Cas rattled by something because he is so solid most of the time - last episode he exuded "fuck you" from every pore for every moment except briefly when Jack was dragged into the room. But Nick has him on edge and now there's some Buckleming fuckery afoot with ongoing vessel issues, we're seeing the very strange visual of a Cas who is legit freaked out.
-
Anyway I really like how smooth this was, even with camera changes. Speight is really wringing excellence out of them, and the script, weirdly, and maybe because it's Nick so Eugenie is focused, is actually contemplative and full of interesting emotional conversations, which they often seem to blow off whatever the brief. Even with the dialogue hindrances, the real meaning and depth is being plumbed by the scenes as a whole.
-
So yeah, here is where I have to grudgingly say MarkP can play evil kinda well but also considering, again, FOUNDER OF THE AMERICAN CAPITALIST PARTY? This is his calling, and he is a caracture of the man who plays the devil.
And this is something rather scary and sinister about what's going on with him which genuinely is played with some of that season 5 gravitas, which is super weird to see because I have got so used to him being a clown, even in his previous episode.
I have to say, due to that, I give Speight a lot of credit because he's really, really good at his job.
-
"What went through your head just now?" I ask that a lot, and thanks for the reaction gif, Eugenie.
I need very little prompting to assume you are writing Nick and Brad is writing the rest.
Nick is a fine line of guilty and confused, and hiding his intent, either because he doesn't know, or he DOES. It's good. Credit where credit's due.
-
"Some of his influence still within you" it's CRUEL to give that line to misha.
Kinda meta that there's a cockles joke from an old JIB or something about "influence" as jizz and 13x21 and all the jokes about Gabriel's grace.
But we're getting to a 9x11 parallel in the structure of the episode, but Cas is left behind with Nick rather than Sam, and Sam gets to be out there looking for his brother... And of course Dean within Michael experiences a shattering greater than the Mark of Cain did to him...
-
"Lucifer may have inflicted more damage on your psyche" yeah no shit we were warning you he would have the Hallucifers
Cas does the most terrified slow shoulder touch ever - there's a real right shoulder wrong shoulder thing going on. Last episode he clasped Jack on the correct (left) shoulder, and this time he tries to touch Nick on the right and nearly gets smote, and then this touch is on the same, as he discerns what's wrong with Nick, and I get a mirror of 11x11 where Lucifer did the wrong shoulder touch to Dean, and have him the only inkling something was up with Cas, that Dean shrugged off because, ow.
-
Anyway white man has angst. Nick has the Hallucifers and he has to find out who killed his family. He's got like his entire own TV show premise of nonsense going on here and it's going to be crammed in between everything else.
Bet you anything real monsters did it
-
"And then what
Dude's got nothing to live for
we're so over these murdered wife revenge arcs
-
The old flipperoo of it being terrifying for a monster when 3 scary hunters bust in weapons drawn. The vampire has a terrible apartment and she didn't even get a new car - it's like she went from one crappy life to the next and the only thing that changed was she was now a miserable vampire. I'm sympathetic to her for now :')
-
Oh look how surprising, this side of the story is being 2x03 still - aside from AUBobby snarking that vampires "never do" anything wrong, in the position of one who never learned a grey area because lower Winchester exposure, the vamps are feeding on animal blood, and mourning the loss of their nest. This is another Lenore. Of course we started the episode with them in the morgue finding vampire teeth on seemingly human victims, as in 2x03, and the killer is the deadliest hunter in the universe - the heavily Gordon themed side of Dean which has been symbolised by vampires the whole time from Lenore to Benny...
-
OH this is the girl from the cold open. So I assume she's going to explain how she got away. We have to assume the cold open was several days ago - long enough for her to lie low, Michael to ditch all the vamps, AND for them to be discovered again and moved to the morgue and then for this branch of TFW to come out here. Which explains that Michael must have already moved on and be ready for his party in the present day, which is a stretch of time enough to form his next plan.
-
"I-if you let me go!" yeah AUBobby lunges at her when he assumes the conversation is over, because he never dealt with this before, but looks over to Sam now, and then Mary does.
We cut away before we find out if Sam decided her fate, so that current silence on the subject may be left ominous or may explain a lot about Sam when we find out whether he had her killed and has turned ruthless, or is still soft Sammy who dealt with Lenore and knows how it goes.
-
Mikey, what are you up to?
-
He's tapping Dean's charm but with a hint more of Jensen's whiskey smoothness in his voice than Dean's coarseness, so this is legally defined as assault.
This is horrifying. GIVE IT BACK.
I'm calling the police. Michael has made off with Dean's entire seduction routine to trap this monster, and I am horrified.
Weirder still hearing him just casually called Michael. Brrrr.
Ooh she's a werewolf. Somehow I hadn't managed to work that out in the glimpse in the promo and thought she was a new monster type.
I guess Mikey is shopping around.
-
Wow she really has prominent teeth. I wonder if that's a sexy trait in werewolves.
-
He takes a drink as he menaces towards her - he's still got that calm drifting through kinda attitude that Michael had even in the AU when he was Christian Keyes, and he's starting to have fun, which is really really bad.
I don't think Michael has ever had fun in his life.
He's like the perfect little kid who does well in all his studies then sneaks off and drowns the family cat in the back of the garden as an outlet.
-
"Now. Summon your master."
Is this the elusive Werewolf Alpha who survived even season 6 because the show just Could Not Figure Out What To Do With Werewolves until season 9
-
Nick has an ENDLESS series of white shirts to indicate he's a sweet innocent dude now
because, you know we have a hard time dealing with that
-
Nick is ranting like a privileged white man
I mean his family is dead, I just struggle with Nick for obvious reasons
and as soon as his mannerisms cross a line, he loses me again
-
He's kinda weird with Cas as well because he knows Cas, kinda, and he has to be 100% on board with all the nonsense, so he's just A Bloke dropped in this life now but casually chatting to an angel. it's weird. "You know what a cold case is, Castiel?" liike, he knows Cas doesn't always know stuff but he is also just going off on one.
I think poor Cas has decided since the Nickifer moment that he needs to spend more time actively watching over Nick, and once more is trapped with a ranting annoying man
this is his curse.
-
"But you're not dead. You have a second chance."
"you don't understand"
Ah, teenagers, such a problem :P
but seriously, this is hilariously the third converastion this episode Cas has been in where he directly relates to the very specific weird metaphysical problem that Nick or Jack is going through because there's literally NOTHING that Cas hasn't already been through. He might yet make an excellent therapist just because of how many weird torments he's endured.
-
Cas speaking with fondness of Jimmy :') Such a feeling of Jimmy being a good man who went to Heaven, and for Cas, raised as an angel like this, being in Heaven with your soulmate is the ultimate happy ending for good devout people - in 4x20 when he's still in Claire he tells Jimmy he served well and will go to Heaven like it's a reward, and despite everything he still seems to default to that, especially for the comfort of knowing this about Jimmy of all people, because of how directly responsible Cas is for destroying their lives, and knowing that at least they got this is a WONDERFUL coping mechanism for angels to tell themselves it's all okay, when they get the correct vessel with the proper permissions and they're a good and pious person who prayed for it etc etc.
Cas and Lucifer remain the only angels we've ever seen actually court their vessel properly, although it's implied Anael did similar. Most others have hopped right in without securing full and informed consent. Er, not that Lucifer does, but at least he has full and informed bullshit trickery, which, um. Is a thing?
-
Nick how DARE you call Cas a "stone cold bodysnatcher" who's no better than Lucifer. Jimmy is gone and Cas has had this vessel remade for him like six times since then. It's the Jimmy Model Vessel mk.VI, as sculpted by God or the Empty.
-
*sobs about Cas saying what happened to Jimmy was his greatest regret*
SUCH GOOD CAS STUFF this episode
-
The alpha werewolf is a white guy in a suit, surprisingly.
Michael, also a white guy in a suit, sits opposite him, and they're pretentious about their cognac.
-
"She thinks you're a god" that's the second time that's happened. He kinda liked it when it was applied directly to him but not an accusation of BEING Chuck, just that that's how he comes across.
-
Oh good he's just the leader of the pack, not the Alpha.
Still wanna know who that is
-
His sales pitch is about their purity in wanting to kill to eat to live once again. I find it hard to believe a werewolf with snooty opinions about alcohol who wears a suit like that doesn't have some human sins, but it seems that Michael is judging them by their monstrousness first, and waving aside their other habits in favour of the big picture of how they live their lives.
-
"Fully tested" you fucking liar
He's talking around the truth... It's fascinating watching him threading the line of judging people for sinners without falling into that himself.
-
I do wonder how he knows about wine unless his previous vessel did... or he's taking from Dean's pop culture and deadpan bullshitting it. Sorry, I'm still stuck on that detail. Character stuff always entertains me so much more than plot :P
-
"Believe me, it's an absurd dream" He's passively observed at least like 3 attempts to enslave the human race for food just in the last few years. He knows.
Mikey, you can't go around promising that, they know it doesn't work. Dick Roman couldn't pull it off, and you don't have his business acumen.
-
"Why be the huntED when you can be the huntER"
ANTI DEAN ANTI DEAN ANTI DEAN AAAAAH turning over EVERYTHING he works for
UUUUGH
-
Okay, Jack's wandered off and found his grandparents without a single warning and I am WOUNDED.
-
They seriously need to put more warning in for these things because ow ow ow ow ow
-
Oh my gooood he's named after Kelly's daaad
-
Look at these nice grandparents
-
"So you were like her intern" oh ne the intern jokes of last summer have come around and stabbed me
I repent
-
Oh NO nerdy little Kelly
this is awful
where is this episode coming from? I can't believe someone's managed to wrangle Buckleming into doing good stuff with everything so this is actually emotionally well-told
this is probably their best episode yet and i'm half an hour in
-
"We have a grandson!"
This is emotionally mauling me like an angry bear
-
"Jack kind of looks like her!"
*Jack attempts to speak from a lump the size of a planet in his throat*
*Lizzy types from within the bear's mouth, as it tries to stuff my down ITS throat*
-
NOUGAT GOT HIS HUG
-
Sam spared the vampire girl!!! YAY
-
She's called Lydia. You assholes literally used that name before for the Amazon Dean hooked up with
-
I can't believe Michael took the time to change his suit. He has a suit for business and a suit for meetings.
-
"the hunters" Oh that's cold. Dean, can you hear how he dismisses your FAMILY?
-
Oh nooo he metatroned her. This was a traaaaaaap and she was bait
-
Aww Lydia :(
-
He smites like Lucifer killed demons with his mind
it's so scary
-
How can Cas be mad at Jack I just nearly cried at a Buckleming episode
anyway he and Jack are having the equivalent I am your dad and I set curfew, vs I am a grown up I can go out when I want argument for his teen son he's unfortunately not engaged with much.
-
"the only real family I have left"
Cas gets SO PISSED
I AM YOUR DAD, SON
-
But he pushes it down and asks if it helped because Cas is good and nice and loves Jack
-
Once Jack reveals that he looked like the weirdly photoshopped Kelly on a horse (oof) Cas gets mauled by the same Feels Bear and relents completely because he's legally not allowed to cry but he wants to
-
"I suppose there are worse ways to be human than to be kind," he says as speight exploits the fuck out of the bunker set, having them sit either side of the door between war and home, tables in the centre, them on the pillars flanking it. It's a wonderful image. I'd go into it more but I suddenly think I have no time at all
-
"So they're going to kill him," lil Hamlet of Nougat says all firmly, re: Michael
Cas switches gears from "this precious child" to "uuuh" immediately
-
"And if he doesn't leave?"
I can see Cas being that meme where everything is an action blur around his face to express deep horror as Jack keeps prodding worst case murdering Dean scenarios
-
Listen, when this little ball of damp feathers you call your son is joining in with the entire universe challenging you if you have the guts to see Dean killed for the greater good, you have a problem that EVERYONE can see
-
"Dean doesn't matter!"
*shock lines intensify*
"You're all so focused on trying to save Dean"
Yeah, he does the same for all of you.
This is the pier conversation from 11x14, but 1000x more intense.
-
Cas is like "?????????????? HOW DARE?"
-
Cas can not comprehend a world where Dean dies, but our lil Shakespearean hero is determined that it has to happen because he WILL kill Michael, it's been put on his shoulders and he WILL DO IT DAMMIT.
(later)
-
Cas did not have this in the parenting books
-
"Do you think he'd want it any other way?"
"no but i love him"
-
I can not BELIEVE Jack got a flounce off stage left and Cas is the one left shook
damn, kids are hard
-
Nick has also wandered off to meet some relatives.
Cas is the worst at keeping his chickens in the coop
what was he doing
lying on Dean's bed sniffing the pillow
-
Oh dear, but it's the neighbour who as this conversation goes on I'm starting to assume was the one who killed his family.
Is he gonna go all Lucifer on this guy?
-
Uhoh, bulletproof werewolves
man I am gonna miss my bus if anything else happens
-
Mary saves AUBobby <3
-
Hi Deanchael, come to torment this poor family
You know you coulda brought Cas because he knew you were here the whole time anyway
-
DEAN! HI!
That was a really cool move Dean.
"Sammy"
<3
-
"It's me"
Unless it's NOT
-
"He just left"
"why"
"i don't know. I don't know!"
me too bud
-
Hey look Nick killed the guy with a hammer
What a surprise
-
Welp now I have to take my 3rd choice for bus to yoga but I finished and now I will be gone all weekend byeee love you yell about this later <3

Pairing(s)/Character(s): Rowena x Reader. / Dean, Sam, Cas, Gabriel / Winchester! Sister
Word Count: 886
Warning(s): Flangst. 13x21 mentions. Mentions of sexy times.
A/N: @fictionalabyss looked this over for me <3 I was kind of inspired by the song She’s A Rainbow by The Rolling Stones.
I do not own any of the pictures used in my story aesthetic. I found them on pinterest. I also hate to say this but if you’re reading this fic - please be over 18.
Forever Tags - @lovetusk @coffee-obsessed-writer@mirajanefairytailmage@kazosa@soythedemonqueen@docharleythegeekqueen@holyfuckloueh@ellen-reincarnated1967@ravenangel33@clockworkmorningglory@lefthologramdeer@disneymarina @ilovetaquitosmmmm@babykalika2001@n3rdybird
Red
It’s not just the color of Rowena’s hair. The first time you met her, she was wearing a red dress. She was dining alone and you were working up the nerve to talk to her. You sighed to yourself, but when a waiter approached and led you directly to her table, you gasped. You thought she was beautiful from far away, but up close? There was more to her than you thought. The waiter pulled out a chair for you and the two of talked over drinks.
Orange
You couldn’t stand to see Rowena fail. With every failure, you could tell it was slowly chipping away at her. The day you found her lying in bed with her arm over her eyes, you knew you had to do something. You planned out the entire day for the two of you. It started with a trip to the spa, along with mani and pedis, and had lunch downtown. The two of you spent the afternoon going on a massive shopping trip, and that evening, you cooked dinner for her. You watched her carefully as she ate and drank, and never once did she frown.
Yellow
It was rare but the two of you spent the day in bed.
After the event’s of yesterday, you could tell her mind was preoccupied once again but you had a work around. It started with small gently placed kisses down her jawline. “Lass, I hope you know what you’re getting into.”
“Oh, I do my love.” Sex with Rowena never left you disappointed. The two of you moved like a well oiled machine and when she cried out, you knew you had done your job right. You had gone to the bathroom afterwards when your phone chimed. Rowena leaned over to your side of the bed to see who could be texting you but the name threw her off. You told her before that you were done talking to them - so why the texts? She wanted to respect your privacy so she hit the button on the side of the phone, making it go dark and flopped back to her side of the bed.
“Rowena? You asleep?” She heard you softly ask as you crawled back into bed. She had her back turned to you, so you sighed and laid back down beside her.
Green
Rowena had been distant for a week now. You tried texting and calling her, but each time when she didn’t respond, you were close to giving up. She would never admit it but Rowena was jealous.
When the boys called and need help opening the rift to the other world, Rowena was there to help out. Gabriel had been flirting with her nonstop, so she acted on it. You were coming downstairs with your brothers and Cas when the two of them stumbled out from behind the bookshelf and you gasped at the sight. “I’m sorry Y/N.” You heard Cas mutter as you stormed away with tears in your eyes.
Whatever had happened between you and Rowena, you were sure that it was over.
Blue
You were miserable. There was no other way of putting it. You stopped answering your texts and calls, and your brothers were starting to notice. You barely left your room anymore.
“I’m getting worried about Y/N.”
“I’m pretty sure something happened between her and Rowena..”
“You saw the same thing I did - Rowena slept with Gabriel. I can understand why she’d be pissed.” Dean took a sip of his beer before lowering it. “You don’t think…. “
“That our baby sister and Rowena were romantically involved?”
“Son of a bitch.”
Indigo
You needed to clear the air with Rowena, so you sent several texts. Texts that were read but she didn’t respond to. It was fair, considering you did the same thing to her. You didn’t sleep with anyone one while the two of you were still seeing each other though. Rowena was in the wrong, right?
Your phone chimed and you looked over at it. You picked it up, and typed in your password to read the full text. It would’ve meant more if she explained it in person but this was better. It at least answered one of your questions.
You told me that you stopped speaking to them after they dumped you. So the night we made love, why were they texting you? I know I’m a hard woman to love but I thought I was enough. I loved you, Y/N and I don’t love many things in this world.
Violet
It started with a bouquet of violets. There was no card but you smiled at the gesture. You opened your book to continue reading, violets kept appearing.
“What the hell…”
It didn’t stop until your room was overflowing. A small handwritten note appeared at your desk so you tore it open, and started reading.
Y/N, I don’t know where to start but if you have it in your heart to forgive me, I’d love to start over. Meet me at the restaurant where we first met. You always looked stunning in violet, so please wear it tonight. I miss you so much and I know we hurt each other, but I know we can work this out if we try.
Forever yours, Rowena.

Top 3 Supernatural Episodes Per Season
Warning: Spoilers below the cut. I am SUPER biased. Take everything I say with a HEALTHY grain of salt.
Season 1: omg they look like INFANTS
1. “Home” 1x09. This episode is amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing AND it’s super important to the mytharch AND we get Winchester family drama. One of those early instances of “Wow we need to give Jensen Ackles an emmy like yesterday”. Mary turns up and foreshadows like??? so much??
2. “Scarecrow” 1x11. Super creepy, major “The Lottery” vibes, fuck I just. I love it.
3. “Hell House” 1x17. Close call between this one and “Something Wicked” but in the end, Harry and Ed and all the hilarity that ensues just. *chef’s kiss*
Honorable Mentions: “Something Wicked”
Season 2: ugh so many good episodes season 2 is SO good
1. “The Usual Suspects” 2x07. SAM GETS TO BE SO SNARKY IN THIS EPISODE AND I LOOOOVE IT. Also Diana is a bamf.
2. “Croatoan” 1x09. UGH YASSSSSSS. Close call between this and “In My Time Of Dying”, though
3. “What is And What Should Never Be” 2x20. Look man, I don’t know what to tell you. I’m cheap as all get out. Dean angst? Gimme gimme. Also it has WYNONNA EARP IN IT.
Honorable Mentions: “In My Time of Dying”, “Nightshifter”
Season 3: half of these episodes suck, the other half are perfect heeeelllppp
1. “Bad Day At Black Rock” 3x03. This episode it just hilarious from start to finish. Also, Bela vs. Dean.
2. “Mystery Spot” 3x11. A double whammy of HILARIOUS and OH FUCK THIS IS DEPRESSING.
3. “Jus In Bello” 3x12. It was real hard to decide between this and Ghostfacers but ultimately, Nancy Fitzgerald (aka Ella Lopez) and Victor Henrikson are the actual best and deserve all the love ever.
Honorable Mentions: “Ghostfacers”, “The Kids Are Alright”
Season 4: Somehow there is only one episode that is not stunningly amazing??
1: “On the Head of A Pin” 4x16. Cas becomes a main character and it is AMAZING and oh my god give Jensen ALL the emmys oh and ALSO we finally learn exactly what Sam and Ruby’s “extracurricular activities” entail. Feels like a movie. We get the reveal that the angels are working to break the seals. Anna is also amazing. Why is this episode so beautiful. I’m fucking crying and so is Dean. I could gush for hours.
2. “It’s a Terrible Life” 4x17. This episode is just a fucking delight. (Am I giving it such a high score on the basis of The Kink’s “Well Respected Man” alone? Maybe. Honestly I SHOULD be putting Rapture here but oh well. I’m biased.)
3. “Monster Movie” 4x05. It was hard to decide between this “In the Beginning” “Lazarus Rising” “The Rapture” and “Lucifer Rising” (which all deserve all the praise ever) but ugh ugh ugh this episode is ALSO perfect AND I love it a bajillion. It’s in black and white and the guest actress is SO pretty and also I think I’ve already gone into detail about how the MoTW is a Lucifer Parallel. Also Dean says he’s been rehymenated so TRANS!DEAN RIGHTS!
Honorable Mentions: “In The Beginning” “Lazarus Rising” “Lucifer Rising” “The Rapture”
Season 5: You want to be sad? You also want to watch really good TV? SEASON FIVE IS WHERE IT’S AT!
1. “Two Minutes To Midnight” 5x21. I know, I know. I should be putting “Swan Song” here but look,, I am easily bought with the promise of Julian Richings as Death.
2. “Free To Be You And Me” 5x03. Funny Destiel buddy cop film, Sam gets to be filtered through the eyes of an audience-stand-in in universe, also contains Castiel’s ICONIC line “but today you’re MY little bitch”.
3. “Dark Side of The Moon” 5x16. Narrowly beats out “My Bloody Valentine”, “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid”, and “The Song Remains The Same”. I am trash for any pieces of Sam and Dean’s childhoods and also this episode gives me SO MUCH material for beating up John with a baseball bat.
Honorable Mentions: “Swan Song” “My Bloody Valentine” “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid” “The Song Remains The Same” “The End”
Season 6: We Don’t Talk About Season Six.
1. “The Man Who Would Be King” 6x20. Cas. Destiel. Ow.
2. “Mommy Dearest” 6x19. Eve! Sam Smith! idk, I just really like it.
3. “Appointment In Samarra” 6x11. As I said, I am easily bought with Julian Richings. Tessa the Reaper!!! Sam stop trying to murder your father.
Honorable Mentions: “You Can’t Handle The Truth” “My Heart Will Go On” “Weekend At Bobby’s”
Season 7: Terrible reputation given the fact that it has SO many great episodes. Sera Gamble? You’re mean.
1. “Slash Fiction” 7x06. Why is this episode so hilarious???? Robbie Thompson starting out with a BANG!
2. “Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie” 7x14. In the total goop of “thick. black. ooze.” of this season, 7x14 is a light in the darkness. Every inkling of joy, of spark, of color, of childishness, all of it, poured out into this one episode, wherein Sam totally loses his cool and I love it. Sam looks so pretty at the end. Dean is simultaneously an actual child and an actual Dad and I love it.
3. “Out With The Old” 7x16. I love me some levis, man, don’t know what to tell you. It’s just so fun!!
Honorable Mentions: All of Robbie’s episodes, “Hello, Cruel World” “Repo Man” “Reading Is Fundamental” “How To Win Friends And Influence Monsters”
(The ONLY reason I’m not including TBAI is bc @mad-as-a-box-of-frogs is slowly converting me to hating Megstiel enough to not watch Destiel episodes)
Season 8: That one season where we admitted that Crowley’s a DICK.
1. “Hunteri Heroici” 8x08. CAAAAS!!! Also the only episode where anyone watching actually gives a shit about the Sam x Amelia flashbacks.
2. “LARP And The Real Girl” 8x11. Super fun! CHARLIE RETURNS. Dean is a FUCKING NERD. Sam gets flirted with :) Real close tie between this one and Pac-Man Fever
3. “The Great Escapist” 8x20. Edlund really gave it his all for this last episode. Cas kicks SO much ass. Sam needs to be protected at ALL costs. Kevin ALSO kicks SO much ass. The actor who plays Sweet Pea on Riverdale is here??? Wow.
Honorable Mentions: “Pac-Man Fever” “As Time Goes By” “Everyone Hates Hitler” “Trial And Error”
(See note on The Born-Again Identity for why Goodbye Stranger is not on this list. Again, blame @mad-as-a-box-of-frogs )
Season 9: Sam is mad at Dean for not letting him go
1. “First Born” 9x11. No, I will not elaborate. Tim Omundson speaks for himself. There is nothing wrong with this entire episode and if you try to tell me there is I can and will gut you like a fish.
2. “Heaven Can’t Wait” 9x06. DESTIELLLLLLLLLLLL.
3. “Do You Believe In Miracles?” 9x23. Wow it’s the first Season Finale to make it to my top 3!! Metatron gets what’s coming, DEAN BECOMES A FUCKING DEMON.
Honorable Mentions: “Bad Boys” “Mother’s Little Helper” “Alex Annie Alexis Ann” “Meta Fiction”
Season 10: Dean is mad at Sam for not letting him go
1. “The Executioner’s Song” 10x14. See my comments on “First Born”.
2. “Angel Heart” 10x20. BRING YOUR DAUGHTER TO WORK DAY. DESTIEL. JIMMY X AMELIA. COOL UNCLE SAMMY. DEAN IS A NERD. DEAN IS CLAIRE’S DAD NOW SORRY NO TAKE BACKS. (also, “blue eyes crying” is just ugh ugh ugh)
3. “The Werther Project” 10x18. SAMWITCH RISE!!!!!!!!!!!
Honorable Mentions: “Hibbing 911″ “The Prisoner” “The Things We Left Behind”
Season 11: Ahh, yes. You. Lucifer. Get fucked.
1. “Don’t Call Me Shurley” 11x20. *slow clap* Robbie Thompson, you have served your country well.
2. “Red Meat” 11x17. This is gonna sound strange, but this episode is sorta my comfort food?? I’ve watched it literally so many times. I love it. So much.
3. “The Chitters” 11x19. Nancy Won wrote three episodes for SPN, all in season 11, they are all stellar. Chitters is GAY. She also wrote “Don’t You Forget About Me” and “Thin Lizzie” I’m putting them here so as not to crowd up the Honorable Mentions.
Honorable Mentions: “The Vessel” “Devil In the Details” “We Happy Few” “Baby” “Form And Void” “Into the Mystic” honestly just watch every non-bucklemming episode they are pretty much all amazing.
Season 12: I WILL DEFEND MARY WITH MY LIFE DON’T @ ME
1. “The Future” 12x19. DESTIEL. I would die for Kelly. Fetus!Jack. GOODBYE DAGON!! THE MIXTAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. “Who We Are” 12x22. JUST KILL ME WHY DON’T YOU, BOBO?! WE ALL KNOW YOU WANT TO.
3. “Stuck In the Middle (With You)” 12x12. Destiel love confession!!!!!! Drowley!! Mary will fight everyone willingly!! SAM GETS THE ORANGE JACKET
Honorable Mentions: Every. Single. Non-BL. Episode. Watch. Them. Now.
