The Great Shift: Happy 30th (13th) Birthday
Tumblr media
We've all had to adapt over the years, it's been 4 years since a bunch of random people were affected by the “the great shift” but we've all had to change a bit, including me.
- Hey pop! What time are my guys arriving?-
That huge shirtless muscular man 4 years ago was my little son Jaime and I couldn't be more proud of the man he has become, When Jaime was born we were so worried about his small size and how sickly he was, but now he's as strong as a fucking bull.
-Take it easy champion, all the parents assured me that they will bring your classmates at 3 pm-
But despite his colossal biceps and his great height, he still has the heart of a 13-year-old boy… even when legally He is 30 now. Since we woke up he had not stopped talking about his birthday party, even while we were having breakfast he did not stop looking at the clock and counting the minutes until his little friends arrived.
Tumblr media
I hadn't seen Jaime this excited since it was Christmas, and he received his Nintendo Switch and that membership to the hottest new gym in town.
Tumblr media
It was 9:00pm when I found out that my son had ended up on the other side of the world in the body of a bodybuilder named Joe, I was watching the news when the “the great shift” happened, It had already been 1 hour since I read him a story to sleep and I slept him in his bed.
The door of my son's room suddenly opened while the reporter on TV was talking about a strange cosmic event that began to affect thousands of people around the world. His eyes showed confusion and disorientation, but I reaffirmed my suspect when he said his first words
-wer bist du? wo zum Teufel bin ich?-
That was definitely not English and definitely that little boy was not my Jaime, I tried to communicate with him through the translator of my phone, but it was not easy at all, immediately the internet, electricity and lines phone lines began to fail due to all the chaos going on throughout the city.
I spoke to "Joe" who was now trapped in the sickly body of my 9-year-old son Jaime, with his help I was able to locate my real son thanks to Joe's cell phone, While Joe spoke with his squeaky childish voice in the kitchen of At home I was trying to calm down my little son who was now in a gym in Germany.
Tumblr media
His voice was upbeat, his tone was thick and he seemed to be having a much better time than we were. We were on the phone for hours as Joe and I tried to guide him step by step to his bachelor pad for him to take refuge in, luckily the gym where Joe used to go.
Jaime would occasionally get distracted by how great it was to be in Joe's body, he wouldn't stop talking about his huge muscles and how tall he was now, he was very close to his old home, so it wasn't too hard for him to find his new house.
With the help of Joe's contacts we were able to help Jaime, his family was in charge of dressing him, feeding him and helping him return home. It took 3 long months of paperwork and bureaucracy to be able to exchange the names and lives of Jaime and Joe.
Before long the world government began to calm things down and try to return people to their old lives, although Jaime may never get his old body back, he seems to have fully adapted to his new body.
We have even started going to the gym together after school and my work, he has become the biggest man in the whole gym and the most popular guy in the whole school, Before all this Jaime was very shy and quiet, but now he has become a son a father can be proud.
Tumblr media
Even though I wish he didn't leave all his dirty clothes and his stinky sneakers all over the house and his room stinks of sweat and chlorine…maybe it's time to give my boy the "birds and bees" talk or is it too late for that.
Tumblr media
Hey folks! if you like bodyswap stories take a look at my patreon, I have a lot of more stories, and you can help me keep creating more stories!

Conrad Veidt
Actually Hans Walter Conrad Veidt, was a German-British actor, born on 22 January 1893 in Berlin. initially became famous in Germany, thanks to films such as: "Different from the others", "Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari" or "The Hands of Orlac". After a career in silent films, he became a best-paid star UFA.
As a child, he lived in the family home at Tieckstraße 39 in Berlin with his mother, Amalie Marie, and Philipp Heinrich Veidt, a former military man who became a government official. his father was strict unlike his mother who was caring and sensitive. He came from a Lutheran family in the Lutheran Church and was baptized on March 26, 1893. He also had an older brother, Karl, who died in 1900 of scarlet fever at the age of 9. two years after Karl's death, his father became seriously ill and required heart surgery. As Conrad's family was not wealthy and could not afford such an expense, the doctor only demanded the fee that the family could afford. Young Veidt was delighted with the surgeon's kindness and swore to follow the example of the man who saved his father's life, from that moment on he wanted to become a surgeon. Niesetu's dream of becoming a surgeon was thwarted when he graduated in 1912 without a diploma and placed 13th out of 13 students, and was also discouraged by the amount of study it took to get into medical school. However, a new career path opened up for Conrads during a Christmas performance in which he delivered a long prologue before the curtain rose. The performance was bad, but the audience thought that Veidt did really great. Conrad became interested in actors, but his father considered stage artists to be outcasts and often called them gypsies. Thanks to part-time work and pocket money from his mother, Veidt was able to afford to attend theaters in Berlin. After each performance he stood in front of the Deutsches Theater waiting for the actors or hoping that he would be mistaken for an actor. At the end of the summer of 1912, he met a theater porter who introduced him to the actor Albert Blumenreich, who agreed to give Corad acting lessons for six marks. He was given 10 lessons before auditioning for Max Reinhardt reciting Goethe's Faust. Reinhardt offered Veidt a contract as an assistant for one season from September 1913 to August 1914, with a salary of 50 marks per month. During this time he played episodic roles as spear carriers and soldiers. His mother attended almost every performance of her son. After a successful career, they decided to extend his contract for a second season, but World War I broke out and on December 28, 1914, Conrad was enlisted in the army. In 1915 he was sent to the Eastern Front as a non-commissioned officer and took part in the Battle of Warsaw. In the meantime, he contracted jaundice and pneumonia and had to be evacuated to a hospital on the Baltic Sea. While convalescing, he received a letter from his girlfriend Lycie Mannheim informing him that she had found a job at the Front Theater in Liepāja. This news prompted Veidt to apply to the theater. because his condition was not improving, the army allowed him to join the theater so he could entertain the soldiers. While working in the theater, his relationship with Lucie ended. In 1916 he was examined by the army again and found unfit for service; On January 10, 1917, he was granted full parole. Conrad returned to Berlin where he was accepted back into the Deutsches Theater. There he played a small role as a priest which earned him a favorable review - the reviewer hoped that "God would save Veidt from the cinema" but luckily this did not happen.
Tumblr media
One of his first and most important films was the role of a sleepwalker in "Das Cabinet Des Dr. Caligari" (1920) directed by Robert Wiene, which became a classic of German and expressionist cinema. The film also changed a lot in cinematography and was quite controversial for its time, but now it is well known to us and appreciated by every fan of cinematography. he also first starred in the film "Anders als die Andern" (1919) in which Conrad and Reinhold Schünzel played the main roles. All copies of the film were corrupted by the Nazis because the homosexuality depicted in the film was considered a disease at that time. Currently, only a small part of the film can be watched, that is, the part of the film that was saved. In 1924, he played in the film "Orlac's Hands" based on the book by Maurice Renard. It's time for Conrad's great success outside Europe. In 1928, he played the role of Gwynplaine in the film "The Man Who Laughs" based on the book by Victor Hugo (I recommend watching the film, it's really great. Conrad's role in this film influenced culture, Joker's appearance is inspired by the Veidt. Of course, it is worth mentioning roles in horror films, e.g. "Der Student Von Prag" (1926) and "Das Wachsfigurenkabinett" (1924). He also starred in the first German film with sound. "Das Land ohne Frauen" (1929). At the end of the 20s he went to Hollywood where he played a few roles, but with the advent of sound in films he had to give up acting in America and returned to Germany. During this time, he became a teacher for many aspiring artists, including Lisa Golm.Interesting fact: the role of Dracula was written specifically for Conrad, but Veidt was afraid that his English was too poor, instead the role of Dracula was played by Béla Lugosi, whose English was not better.
Tumblr media
Veidt did not support the Nazi regime and sent funds to help the British during the German Blitz bombings. Shortly after the Nazi Party took power in Germany in March 1933, Joseph Goebbles purged the film industry of political opponents and Jews. In April 1933, a week after Cornad's wedding to Prager, a Jewish woman also known as "Lilli", they emigrated to Britain before any action could be taken against them. Goebbles imposed a "race questionnaire" in which every actor employed in Germany had to declare his "race" in order to continue working. When Veidt filled out the questionnaire, he answered the question about his race by writing "Jew." Veidt was not of Jewish origin, but his wife was, and Veidt would not abandon the woman he loved so much or cooperate with the regime, as many others did. Veidt was against anti-Semitism and showed it publicly and said it loudly. he supported Jews who were deprived of German citizenship in the spring of 1933. Conrad was informed that if he got a divorce and declared support for the new regime, he would still be able to operate in Germany, which he rejected because, as he claimed, nothing could cause him to divorce Lilli. After arriving in United Kingdom, Veidt improved his English and starred in the original anti-Nazi films The Wandering Jew (1933) and Jew Süss (1934). On February 25, 1939, he received British citizenship. During this time, Conrad made films in both French and English.
I think these are the key and important moments in Conrad Veidt's life.
Trivia
Conrad, through his lawyers, gave children locked in shelters in London 2,000 tins of sweets, 2,000 large packets of chocolate and 1,000 gift envelopes in the form of British currency. all to improve their mood during the Christmas :)
Veidt helped his parents-in-law from Austria get to Switzerland and in 1935 he managed to obtain permission from the Nazi government for his ex-wife and their daughter to move to Switzerland. He also offered to help Felizitas' mother ( his ex-wife's mother), Frau Radke, leave Germany. but she refused, saying "no damn little Asutrian Nazi corporal will make me leave my house." Apparently she survived the war, but Corad never saw her again.
"There are two different kinds of men. There are the men men, what do you call them, the man's man, who likes men around, who prefers to talk with men, who says the female can never be impersonal, who takes the female lightly, as playthings. I do not see a man like that in my mirror. Perhaps, it is because I think the female and the male attract better than two men, that I prefer to talk with females. I do. I find it quite as stimulating and distinctly more comfortable. I have a theory about this - it all goes back to the mother complex. In every woman, the man who looks may find - his mother. The primary source of all his comfort. I think also that females have become too important just to play with. When men say the female cannot discuss impersonally, that is no longer so. When it is said that females cannot be geniuses, that is no longer so, either. The female is different from the male. Because she was born to be a mother. There is no doubt about that. But that does not mean that, in some cases, she is not also born a genius. Not all males are geniuses either. And among females today there are some very fine actresses, very fine; fine doctors, lawyers, even scientists and industrialists. I see no fault in any female when she wears slacks, smokes (unless it is on the street, one thing, the only thing, which I don't like), when she drives a car... when men say things like "I bet it is a woman driving" if something is wrong with the car ahead - no, no. These are old, worn out prejudices, they do not belong in today"
~°~
Conrad died on April 3, 1943 from heart disease.
(Sorry for any mistakes, remember I'm not from an English-speaking country, the information comes from Wikipedia and various websites that you can easily find :)

Charles Hamilton Sorley was born in Aberdeen on May 19th 1895, he became a soldier and lay dead in a field in France in his 20th year.
The son of a William Ritchie Sorley, a professor of moral philosophy, Charles was a precocious and academically gifted child. The family moved to Cambridge when he was five, and Sorley attended King’s College choir school and Marlborough College, with some study in Germany. He began publishing poetry in the school journal and won a scholarship to University College, Oxford. Sorley was in Germany in 1914 when World War I broke out, and he was interned for one night in prison at Trier.
Making his way back home, he enlisted in the Army and served in the trenches in France. Sorley was killed in action near Hulloch during the Battle of Loos, on 13th October 1915, shot in the head by a sniper. His last poem, When You See Millions of the Mouthless Dead, was found in his kitbag, it is a heart-breaking piece of prose, and I admit the first time I read it in 2012 it brought a tear to my eye.
A collection of Sorley’s poetry was published posthumously as Marlborough and other Poems and went through six editions in the first year. Because of his time in Germany, Sorley’s attitude toward the war was deeply conflicted from its start. His small body of poetry is ambivalent, ironic, and profound. Sorley has been described as “one of the three poets of importance killed during the war,” the others being Wilfred Owen and Isaac Rosenberg. His other works include The Collected Poems of Charles Hamilton Sorley.
Such, Such Is Death.
Such, such is Death: no triumph: no defeat: Only an empty pail, a slate rubbed clean, A merciful putting away of what has been.
And this we know: Death is not Life, effete, Life crushed, the broken pail. We who have seen So marvellous things know well the end not yet.
Victor and vanquished are a-one in death: Coward and brave: friend, foe. Ghosts do not say, "Come, what was your record when you drew breath?" But a big blot has hid each yesterday So poor, so manifestly incomplete. And your bright Promise, withered long and sped, Is touched, stirs, rises, opens and grows sweet And blossoms and is you, when you are dead.

100th Bomber Boys: Major Robert 'Rosie' Rosenthal: Pt. 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahead of the show's release, I bought Donald Miller's book and am reading it! Here is a little bit about Major Robert 'Rosie' Rosenthal (played by Nate Mann) from the prologue of Masters of the Air (pg. 13-14)!
Lt. Robert "Rosie" Rosenthal had not trained with the Hundredth's original crews. He and his crew had been assigned to the group that August from a replacement pool in England, to fill in for men lost on the Regens-burg raid. "When I arrived, the group was not well organized," Rosenthal recalled. "They were a rowdy outfit, filled with characters. Chick Harding was a wonderful guy, but he didn't enforce tight discipline on the ground orin the air." Rosenthal didn't fly a mission for thirty days. "No one came around to check me out and approve me for combat duty. Finally, my squadron commander, John Egan, had me fly a practice formation. I flew to the right of his plane. I had done a lot of formation flying in training and I was frustrated; I desperately wanted to get into the war. I put the wing of my plane right up against Egan's, and wherever he went, I went. When we landed, Egan told me he wanted me to be his wing man." Rosenthal had gone to Brooklyn College, not far from his Flatbush home. An outstanding athlete, he had been captain of the football and baseball teams, and later was inducted into the college's athletic hall of fame. After graduating summa cum laude from Brooklyn Law School, he went to work for a leading Manhattan law firm. He was just getting started in his new job when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The next morning he joined the Army Air Corps. He was twenty-six years old, with broad shoulders, sharply cut features, and dark curly hair. A big-city boy who loved hot jazz, he walked, incongruously, with the shambling gait of a farmer, his toes turned inward and there wasn't an ounce of New York cynicism in him. He was shy and easily embarrassed, but he burned with determination. "I had read Mein Kampf in college and had seen the newsreels of the big Nazi rallies in Nuremberg, with Hitler riding in an open car and the crowds cheering wildly. It was the faces in the crowd that struck me, the looks of adoration. It wasn't just Hitler. The entire nation had gone mad; it had to be stopped. "I'm a Jew, but it wasn't just that. Hitler was a menace to decent people everywhere. I was also tremendously proud of the English. They stood alone against the Nazis during the Battle of Britain and the Blitz. I read the papers avidly for war news and listened to Edward R. Murrow's live radio broadcasts of the bombing of London. I couldn't wait to get over there. "When I finally arrived, I thought I was at the center of the world, the place where the democracies were gathering to defeat the Nazis. I was right where I wanted to be." Rosie Rosenthal didn't share these thoughts with his crewmates, simple guys who distrusted what they called deep thinking. They never learned what was inside him, what made him fly and fight with blazing resolve. Later in the war, when he became one of the most decorated and famous fliers in the Eighth, word spread around Thorpe Abbotts that his family was in a German concentration camp. But when someone asked him directly, he said "that was a lot of hooey." His family-mother, sister, brother-in-law, and niece (his father had recently died) were all back in Brooklyn. "I have no personal reasons. Everything I've done or hope to do is strictly because I hate persecution... A human being has to look out for other human beings or else there's no civilization."
Rosie was part of the 'Bloody 100th' Bombardment Group of the 13th Combat Wing, of the 'Mighty Eighth' Air Force with John 'Bucky' Egan and Gale 'Buck' Cleven (played by Callum Turner and Austin Butler) His plane was called Rosie's Riveters, and him and his crew were an integral part of the bombardment group.
On October 8th, 1943, the 100th went on a bombing run to Bremen, Germany, and Buck Cleven was shot down. Two days later, Egan and the rest of the 100th went on a supposedly "easy" mission to Münster, accompanied by P-47 Thunderbolts almost all the way to the target. Rosenthal and his crew were not flying their beloved Rosie's Riveters due to damage from their two previous missions in Bremen and Marienburg. Instead, they flew Royal Flush.
Rosie's crew was worried about flying a brand new plane, and became incredibly nervous. Bringing them together under one of the wings, he calmed the boys down and lifted their spirits. This mission proved disastrous, and Royal Flush was the only one in the 100th to make it back to Thorpe Abbotts (the 100th's air-base in East Anglia).
Tumblr media
Needless to say, I love Rosie already!! I've read up to chapter 6, and I feel like my brain is going to explode with all the information I've taken in :3
lmk if y'all want more posts like this one or would like to be tagged in them!!

So, he really doesn't have time to date the billionaire that flirts with him everyday as he buys his cup of coffee. Even if he did, he can't let himself fall for the man. Because if he knew that he lived from a backpack and showered in a public bathroom there's no way he'd still want him...right?

rock me gently (ao3) - enigma731, invisibledaemon gamora/peter M, 479k

For once, he doesn’t dare. “This Gamora has jumped forward in time nine years, but she is the same person at her core. Just as you are the same despite not having experienced the last five years I did. We are all just–out of sync at the moment.”
show me what i’m looking for (ao3) - JamieB93 mj/peter, pepper/tony M, 381k
Summary: Peter Parker has spent the last year struggling to believe he has finally found a place he belongs. He has come a long way and whilst there is still a way to go, Peter begins to blossom and open himself up to the world. Which brings with it all the usual teenage dramas.
A touch damaged and more than a little rough around the edges, Peter is very often his own worst enemy. Still plagued by the scars of a traumatic past and newer challenges - it seems Peter’s happy ending might not be so easily in reach.
Steve Rogers Is A Child (ao3) - LagLemon steve/tony, clint/phil M, 290k
Summary: Tony gets into fights with Steve all the time and it's driving him insane. Sure, he's not the nicest guy in the world, but all he did was steal a little of the guy's sesame seed bagel - he didn't deserve to get yelled at for something stupid like that.
After drowning his sorrows in hot chocolate and complaining to Pepper about what happened, Tony gets a phone call from Natasha telling him to hurry back home. Something's happened - Steve has been attacked and he's not quite the same man he once was - he's been turned into a child.
With Steve out of commission, the team struggles with what to do and Tony finds himself filling roles he had never expected: babysitter and friend.
The Contract (ao3) - Laily loki/stephen M, 60k
Summary: An awkward dinner party brings Doctor Stephen Strange and Loki of Asgard together; though ill-at-ease, still they seek the company of each other, being the odd ones out. One wakes up somewhat rested, the other in the worst pain of his life.
Thor is not a happy camper.
The Puzzle that is Peter Parker (ao3) - Neuropsyche pepper/tony T, 279k
Summary: Peter is reeling from the after-effects of the spider bite and seeks out Tony Stark. If anyone can teach him how to be a superhero, it's Ironman, right? Tony isn't impressed at being stalked by an eight year old
Time After Time (ao3) - fancylances tony/stephen T, 47k

HISTORY
War was born on Earth156, a rather very rough and tougher version of Earth001. He had a challenging life and struggled to survive by working various odd jobs while growing up until he got involved with one of the dangerous gangs in the area where he lived. This group terrorized various businesses and people and as they grew and became powerful, they expanded, posing threat to other parallel worlds.
The Organization began work on disbanding such criminal groups within various Earths however, due to other well-known criminals acquiring ways to travel to other Earths, it became easier to form bigger groups making the Organization's job a bit harder.
War from Earth156 became a prominent figure, almost as successful as his parallel self in Earth001, a parallel worlds officer who hunt down criminals like War Earth156.
Earth156 War was added to the most wanted list of the Organization after skipping multi-Earths and causing imbalance in the parallel worlds. At the same time, Earth001 War who was one of the officers leading a big investigation into these parallel world groups was ambushed and unfortunately killed during a mission. The incident caused a ripple effect in the parallel worlds, pushing War from Earth156 into the lap of the Organization. The Org realized that without their own version of War, the investigation and mission to bring down the parallel world criminal groups won't succeed so they made a deal with War156; in exchange for a lighter sentence, War would pose as War from Earth001 under the control of Lead Investigator Hari Schütz.
War accepted the deal deciding that for now, it's his best chance of staying out of intergalactic prison and began devising a plan to escape...

Chu Grace was born to a Korean father and a British mother in Manchester, United Kingdom. Her father was part of a technological company and travelled the world as a salesman, meeting Grace’s mother in London where they both married and moved to Manchester as part of his job.
Chu Grace was born on 14th May 1990
Aged 2, she began ballet lessons at her mother’s instruction
Homeschooled from the age of five to combine Korean/British curriculum together
Began ballroom dancing around the age of 6, just before moving to Germany
With her parents, Grace moved to Berlin at the age of 7 (1997)
Began to learn the basics of German along with her normal studies and continued her ballroom dancing lessons with ballet dancing
At the age of 10 (2000), the family moved to Suwon-Si to be closer to her grandparents as well as part of her father’s job and that’s where they settled for a year. After a year, they moved to Seoul and remained there ever since.
She was homeschooled until the age of 13 when she joined the middle school at Dulwich College Seoul and completed high school there.
She finished her education at the age of 18 in 2008 and joined Big Hit at the age of 19, a year later.
While she originally auditioned at Big Hit for her dancing and her singing, she was hired as more of an assistant which was her first paying job, her background vocals then later used. Her English skills came in useful for other idols and other staff
In 2010, RM was signed to Big Hit and BTS or BPB as it was known, was started. Bang Si-Hyuk asked Grace to mentor Namjoon, especially in English even though he was already proficient at it. These two would be the first members of BTS, though Grace was added to the line-up after Jungkook.
Yoongi joined just before J-Hope in December 2010 and therefore the rap line was complete.
Grace, during this time, began learning rapping to further the background vocals that might be needed.
Seokjin and then Jungkook were added to the lineup and finally, Grace was introduced as a member - solely for background vocals, sub-rapping, her dancing and then finally, visuals. The contract for her was signed separately as Big Hit were worried a hip-hop group with a female member wouldn’t work and so they signed her for only two albums.
Taehyung then Jimin were added to the line-up and the eight members of BTS were complete.
June 13th 2013 - BTS officially debut with their first performance of No More Dream.

Today's "ChronoXAngel" spotlight is "Nonami Ise", actual name Maria von Orlok. Nonami is 273 years old at the start of the series, born October 13th, and is a member of Vampire high society. Despite her lofty status she still devotes much of her time to protecting both monsters and humans as a member of GARDNA, a peacekeeping organization founded with just such a goal. Nonami's current partner within the organization is Rei Kobayashi, a Red Oni. The pair meet Usoko when the young girl is being hunted through her school after hours by a Blue Oni. Nonami faces the Oni 1v1, and momentarily defeats her but is tricked by an illusion and sent flying.
Nonami's main weapon is a cross-shaped spear known as the "Breakdown Spear", which can split into smaller copies to incapacitate or restrain an enemy via crucifixion. She also has some magical abilities such as flight and limited energy projectile powers.
Nonami in her human form is 4'11, with pumpkin-orange hair and iridescent blue eyes. In her Vampire form she is 6'1, with jet-black hair and glowing red eyes. In both forms her skin is quite pale, though more akin to porcelain in her Vampire form.
Nonami sleeps in a coffin filled with dirt from her homeland of Germany, and so sleeps in the nude as to not dirty her nightgowns. She is not supernaturally bound to do so, she simply finds the dirt comforting.
Read more about Nonami in "CHRONOXANGEL", a novel series written by yours truly!!

SOHEI - BUDDHIST WARRIORS OF ANCIENT JAPAN
Sohei ( дат Sohei, literally "monk-soldier") - Buddhist warrior monks of feudal Japan. At certain points in history, they had considerable power, thus forcing imperial and military governments to cooperate.
They were similar to the mountain ascetes of yamabushi, but unlike the yamabushi hermits, the soheis were usually organized into large armies or units. Most famous is their Enryaku-ji Monastery on Mount Heei, not far from Kyoto.
Many common traits the Soheis had with warrior monks from Germany or other religious orders (for example, such as participating in a crusade; the Soheis did not operate as individuals or even as members of individual temples, but rather as warriors of the Great Brotherhood or monastic order).
Warrior monks first “claimed themselves” in the late 10th century, in the Heian era, during fierce political disputes between Buddhist temples and sects over receiving various titles from the emperor. The main confrontation took place in the area of Kyoto and Nara cities, in Japan's 4 largest temples - Todai-ji, Kofuku-ji, Mii-dera and Enryaku-ji.
The first armed encounter occurred in 949. , when 56 monks from Todai-ji came out to the Imperial Palace in Kyoto to protest against their inconvenient assignment. These kinds of performances lasted throughout the 10th century and often ended in a murder.
Since 981 Clashes began between the 2 main temples of the Tendai Buddhist sect - Enryaku-ji and Mii-dera. Armed clashes between these temples lasted with breaks throughout the 11th century and early XII. Along with the armies, violence has also increased. Sometimes it even came to the burning of an unfriendly residence. Other temples were also gradually involved in conflicts, joining forces with yesterday's enemies to confront other temples.
A prolonged civil war began in Japan at the end of the 12th century. Temples distracted themselves from constant windows, observing events happening in the country. Hostile houses of Minamoto and Tyra tried to persuade warrior monks of Kyoto and Nara to replenish their samurai armies. The Sohei claimed themselves in 1180, when the Mi-dera monks along with the samurai of the Minamoto house tried to protect the bridge across the Uji River from the invasion of Tyra troops. During this battle, known as the Battle of Uji, the monks disassembled the pillars of the bridge so that the horse samurai could not cross the river.
After the Gampay war, many monasteries began to reform. Their political power grew generally in peaceful ways, and the Soheis almost did not participate in the battles of the 13th-XIV centuries. During the wars of the Nambokuteo-era, Mount Hyei gave refuge to the rebellious Emperor Go-Daigo. With his son and soheis, he tried to gather forces for a short-term rebellion against the Kamakura shogunate. After this, another military government, the Asikaga shogunate, came to power, bringing an end to the restoration of Kammu. The new shogunate supported the Zen sect more than others, and therefore attracted the wrath of warrior monks. From 1340 to 1360, many clashes occurred between the temples of the Zen and Tendai sect.
The Onin War, which began in 1467, dragged on more than a century-old civil war in Japan and forced warrior monks to reform again. In contrast to the turmoil of the Jekyu years and the invasion of the Mongols in the XIII century, the main theater of the Onin war became Kyoto, and therefore the Sohei could not stay away. In addition, new sects of warrior monks appeared in the country. While monks from Mount Hiyei were adherents of the Tendai doctrine, the newly-baked monks, who were given the collectively name ikko-ikki, followed the rules of the jodel-sinsu (True School of the Pure Earth). This practice was followed, among others, by many fundamentalist priests, peasants and houses, who were ready to fight for their beliefs. In 1488, their leader, named Rennyo, raised a rebellion against the power of the samurai, and warrior monks seized the province of Kaga. From this direction they began to expand, capturing the temple of Isiyama Hongan-ji in Nagashima (sovr. Mie Prefecture). A little later, part of the land in Mikawa province (part of the sovr.) came under their control. p. Haiti). Their power and influence drew the attention of some of the mightiest princes of the warring provinces, Oda Nobunagi and Togukawa Ieyasu. They considered the warrior monks as the enemies of the samurai laws and a threat to their power. Yeyasu attacked the monks of Mikawa in 1564, but failing to defeat them in battle, he returned later with the monks of his friendly Jedo-syu school, winning and taking almost all of the possessions from the losers.
While the power of Oda Nobunagi was strengthening and expanding in the late 1560s, the Enryaku-ji monks were gaining military strength and clashes were resumed on the streets of Kyoto, now with the new Nitiren Buddhist sect. After defeating the enemy, they began to look for allies among the dimes. To their misfortune, they contacted the houses of Asai and Asakura who were sworn enemies of Nobunag. 29 September 1571 The 30 thousand Oda army stormed Mount Hyei and burned down the Enryakudzi Monastery. Although the temple itself will be restored later, there were no more warrior monks in it.
Then Oda Nobunaga fought the ikko-ikki in their forts of Nagasima and Isiyama Hongan-ji. In the summer of 1574, with the help of the old pirate Kuki Yoshitaki, Nobunaga blocked their forts and began to starve the monks. 20 thousand people were burned along with their homes. Two years later, Nobunaga returned to Isiamu Hongan-ji, a temple he failed to conquer last time. In two maritime battles under Kidzugawaguti Nobunaga, the house of Mori, whose fleet was still considered to be the strongest in the region. Finally, the Soheis were forced to surrender in 1580.
Between 1580 and 1590, not only warrior monks, but all of Japan was divided into two camps: supporters of Toyotomi Hideyoshi or his opponent in the struggle for power - Tokugawa Ieyasu. When was the last one in 1603 finally will gain full power over the whole country, the Sohei era will end forever.
The Soheis had quite a variety of weaponry. Although most commonly associated with naginata, warrior monks also often used bows, tanto (daggers) and wakidashi (short swords).
The Soheis, like other Buddhist monks, wore kimono-like clothes, usually white at the bottom and beige at the top. They wore traditional Japanese sandals on their feet (this one, Varaji, etc.) ). The head was covered with white scarves or a hatimaki bandage.
The attire of the Ikko-ikki monks was a little more diverse due to their peasant origins, ranging from simple rural attire to various types of bras and helmets. In addition to the aforementioned armament, the icco-icca monks had a small number of arkebuses.

History
I grew up relatively normal. My mom and I lived in a small apartment on the outskirts of the city Early on, she would reveal to me small details about my origins, both divine and mortal.
My mom originally came from Germany, from a family-run winery. However, she moved to the USA to study and eventually met and somehow fell in love with my dad at student parties. My conception was an accident, a one-night stand. Yet, my dad stood by my mom’s side throughout the entire pregnancy, promising to help her whenever she needed it.
However, it wasn’t until a month before my 13th birthday that I personally met my dad. He protected me when my first monster attacked, gifting me his sword after using it to defeat the creature. Then, he promised my mom that I would be taken to camp the following summer.
True to his word, a few months later, a blond young man picked me up. A satyr, as I soon learned. His name was Oliver, and to this day, he remains my best friend.
Every summer, I attended Camp Half-Blood and trained, while the rest of the time, I lived with my mom and now Oliver in our small apartment, attending school. Until my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. There wasn’t much that could be done, and it took half a year until I lost her. Since then, I’ve been living at the camp year-round.

A brief list of why the Fourth of July could and should always be boycotted, by Jeff Smith:
-The US has engaged in genocidal policies against Indigenous people/nations on this continent since the founding of the US. White Settler Colonialism has been the primary driving force, which has included the outright slaughter of Indigenous people, the forced removal from their lands, the repeated violation of treaties, forcibly removing Indigenous children from their communities and putting them in so-called “Boarding Schools,” and the denial of Indigenous people to celebrate their own spiritual traditions for most of the past 250 years. For an excellent resource, see Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz’s book, An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States.
-If people haven’t read it, they should read Frederick Doughlass’ famous 1852 speech, entitled, “What, to the Slave, is the Fourth of July?” Douglass calls out the realities of slavery and denounces the blind celebration of July 4th, by saying, “What, to the American slave, is your Fourth of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelly to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciations of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are, to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy—a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices, more shocking and bloody, than are the people of these United States, at this very hour.”
-While Chattel Slavery was outlawed by the end of the Civil War, the US legal and economic systems made sure that Black people were still denied freedom and independence. The 13th Amendment essentially made slavery legal again, a theme which is explored in Ava DuVernay’s 2016 award winning documentary, 13th. In addition, the history of lynching, red-lining, legal segregation, the War on Drugs, mass incarceration, gentrification and the ongoing efforts to dismantled legal gains made by the Black Freedom Struggle/Civil Rights Movement, ultimately demonstrates that Black people have never been afforded the same freedom as white people in this country.
-The history of US immigration policy has excluded millions of people from coming to and be accepted into US society. From the Chinese Exclusion Act in the late 19th Century, the refusal of the FDR Administration to welcome thousands of Jews fleeing Nazi Germany, to the brutal treatment of people fleeing poverty, political oppression and climate catastrophe from Latin America since the 1960s, the US has consistently excluded millions of immigrants seeking asylum and safety. See our popular education tool, History of US Immigration Policy.
-The US has a bloody history towards working class people, which has always been directed by the Capitalist Class, with assistance from the state and the state’s main enforcement mechanism, the police. From the earliest efforts to win labor struggles in the early part of the 19th Century, the harsh repression of radical union organizing in the late 19th Century through the 1930s, and the ongoing Capitalist Class’s war against working people, evidenced by the efforts against Amazon and Starbucks workers, most people living in this country have never experienced economic freedom or independence. See Kim Kelly’s book, Fight Like Hell: The Untold History of American Labor.
-The US has consistently marginalized and repressed people who are part of the LGBTQ community, those who are gender non-conforming; religious minorities, especially Muslims, those in the disability community, anti-war dissidents, radical environmentalists and so many other communities that the systems of power in this country have never accepted and have often brutalized.

Millions of the Mouthless Dead.
When you see millions of the mouthless dead Across your dreams in pale battalions go, Say not soft things as other men have said, That you’ll remember. For you need not so. Give them not praise. For, deaf, how should they know It is not curses heaped on each gashed head? Nor tears. Their blind eyes see not your tears flow. Nor honour. It is easy to be dead. Say only this, “They are dead.” Then add thereto, “Yet many a better one has died before.” Then, scanning all the o'ercrowded mass, should you Perceive one face that you loved heretofore, It is a spook. None wears the face you knew. Great death has made all his for evermore.

Ok young-ish person here (I'm 20 soon)! From my experiences in the last years in school, drinking is very much common in the 10-13th classes....? Idk the english word anymore lol For reference, I don't drink cause alcohol is too bitter for my maybe too sweet tooth, I hate the smell of cigarettes, and my circle of friends are on the calmer side, so all my information is basically only from a I heard or seen nearby or coincidentally. I'm also slow on these things, so I'm pretty sure I missed a lot more juicy things.
While I suspect the party and drinking activities to be a weekend thing, I have seen at least one person bring vodka or so to school on a weekday (it was one of the fine arts course tho so there's that). Smoking seems to be acceptable rn? Nobody is ashamed or looked down upon, one time a teacher and student even smoked together during break times lol. The teachers in general seem to be quite chill or at least not too strictly against those activities as long as it's not working hours and in their presence (or at least it should be in secret). I have seen plenty of teenagers smoking in another school around afternoon, where the little ones are already gone and it's breaktime for the older ones.
On another note, I think the use of drugs is also common? I heard from another school that some where found in their school and there was a whole investigation going. In my school I'm pretty sure there are some who indulge in it but idk who or what. I was so close to accidentally consuming some cause apparently the brownies for the party in 10th class were "special brownies". Sad thing to put smth like that in brownies of all things 😭 I really wanted some. At least we had pizza. I think it's like an open secret to everyone. Like, alcohol, grugs and smoking is bad and you shouldn't do it! (Or in limits pls) But the teachers only warn us against it for protocol and whether we heed their advise or not is up to us. Until we cause a big incident, then not anymore.
Thanks for your insight!
Honestly, what you're saying makes sense considering how it was 10 years ago. But at the same time, for the drinking it still sounds about the same as it was back then. That someone went out of their way to sneak vodka into school, honestly that's an exception I'm pretty sure so I can't really take it seriously, that's just teenagers doing dumb stuff and testing their limits xD It's interesting though you mentioned the classes because the 10 year is about 16 and where people take their first exams, and 12-13 is already around age 18 where people get their higher education. I see a lot of stress-influence there.
But maybe there is more smoking and new drug habbits than in my time (which makes sense with the rise of consumers and lax parents). In my school time we did have like 3-4 older teens (17-18) who we knew consumed stuff (just blunts really) and it was incredible hard to get, so they wouldn't share anything. So yeah, I never actually had drugs. Would love to try it sometime, but knowing I have a habbit of addiction, I probably never will.
I still think kids are relatively reasonable in Germany, latest when they get older they start to grow out of it. And it's also more of an outgoing/cool kids thing still from your experience. Maybe they'd profit from more in-depth courses and explanation, but I can imagine it's hard enought to keep teenagers quiet in class, so it's probably not like they'd care about these type of lectures.
Still, thank you for sharing your experience!

Shout out to: "Taja Lindley" for this beautiful, creative, captivating, visual imagery!!! This image speaks VOLUMES! Stay WOKE folks! https://www.tajalindley.com/thebagladymanifesta
“Bag Lady”
A song that is currently resonating in my mental space is by Erykah Badu, “Bag Lady”. There’s a section of the chorus that goes, “Bag lady, you gone hurt your back draggin’ all them bags like that.” Where oh where do I begin to unpack all of this mental and emotional baggage? Last week was the first week of my new African American studies course titled, “Sunken Place: Racism, Survival, and Black Horror Aesthetic.”
Films I've seen previously, like "Get Out," are being seen from a fresh perspective. The "rose-colored glasses" are no longer being worn. Professor Due gives us some insight on the origins of Black Horror, explaining that "it was a means to transfer real life traumas — fear and anger into a fictitious drama." I've always found it odd that I just cannot get enough of watching horror, even if it makes me cringe, squirm, increase my heartbeat, and stay awake at night with nightmares. Where does it come from? Professor Due made a statement claiming, "those who watch horror did better during the pandemic." As much as I'd want to, I just don't have time to fully unpack this statement. Yeah right, who am I am kidding, I can't wait to unpack this!
My mother abandoned my sister and me when I was just 5-years old. She left me and my sister in the care of our abusive, emotionally unstable, and often absentee father. My paternal grandmother took majority care of me and my sister until her health began to decline. She had adopted my father and his siblings from Germany, but that's a subject for another day. My sister and I were heading to school one day when we heard our grandmother's voice from a distance; upon turning around, we saw our disoriented and undressed grandmother (Nana) making her way up the street. Nana was exhibiting symptoms of dementia; I would learn later.  When I was 11 years old, Nana passed. Those 6 years in-between the time of her death were very emotionally and mentally taxing on me and my sister.  That was the beginning of the end for us. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2019, less than a year before the pandemic. Fast forward to the pandemic, and my mother succumbs to cancer. I felt abandoned once again. I have endured much trauma in my life.
A major part of my childhood from a young age I recall watching horror and thrillers with my mother, father, paternal grandmother, cousins, siblings etc. Television shows and films like, The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock’s – The Birds, Psycho (all of them) and Rear Window, Rosemary’s Baby, The Exorcist, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, The Shinning, Poltergeist, many…many Stephen King films; Carrie, The Shining, It (I’m still freaked out by clowns), Christine, Pet Cemetery, Misery, Cujo and soooooo many more. Every person in my family I listed above had experienced trauma. Due to the brain's inability to differentiate between fiction and reality, when I watch a horror movie, a component of my mind believes that "Freddy Krueger (for example)" is after me in real life. So, how exactly can watching horror help you decompress? Specifically, those of us with anxiety and trauma. It makes me think of my ancestors and how they were able to survive such inhumanity, such brutality. Once the mind has gone through several traumatic experiences, it strengthens and realizes that it is capable of surviving. Regardless how it may seem, horror films inform us that fear is not fatal. Therefore, those who watch horror and/or have endured traumatic events may have done much better during the pandemic. Without this course, I highly doubt I would have been able to conceptualize this.
When so much of life seems out our control, horror may help us recover and get control over our feelings. Black men are being executed unjustly, and no one is being held accountable, eerily similar to the Jim Crow and Civil Rights eras. Women's rights to their bodies are being violated, with the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Black Horror is more than a cinematic feature; it is a daily lived reality for Blacks in AmeriKKKa.

My time has come :D
@scenerwiththegreenery (I'm not sure if it worked before, sorry) let me tag you, because I don't think you'll get a notification from reblog of the reblog. My credentials for this are, I'm Polish, I ecceled in history in high school and it's been less than 5 years since I've finished it, so knowledge is still fresh in my mind and I still can fact check with my textbook
Before anything else I want to say, that person above me wasn't wrong, it's all true, but the issue runs a bit deeper.
TL:DR: Germany and Russia or their "ancestor" countries (idk how to call it otherwise, I mean for example Prussia or First Reich) are two consistent enemies throughout all of over 1000 years of Polish history. And sure, we had other enemies, we had Kingdom of Bohemia ("ancestor" of Czech Republic) from time to time in Middle Ages, we had Turkiye in 15th to 17th century and Sweden in 17th, but Germany and Russia stayed quite consistently from 10th century to 20th and let's be honest, nobody gives that much of a shit about stuff that happened before 19th century and these two were big part of Polish history in 19th and 20th century, when they took Polish independence and actually tried to erase our ethnic identity/just straight up kill us.
(and also, there is really nice and I think quite popular angdote about what Turkiye's stance on Poland in 19th century that warms their image a bit)
But, to elaborate, though I'll still be only brushing the surface, feel free to ask for clarification/about more info about anything. What is considered as a first battle in Polish history is battle of Cedynia, 972 A.D. with German margrave Hodon. Wait, no, scratch that, first Polish historical ruler, founder of first unified Polish state, married Bohemian princess Dobrawa and got baptised along with his country (966 A.D.) from her country's hands for the expressed purpose of not letting German's do it by force and to get rid of one of their main "reasons" to attack which was "spreading one and only correct Christanity". Conflicts with Rus, ancestor country for both Ukraine and Russia started around the same time, though I think it was more warranted (I mean, I think it started with conflict for territories). But throughout the Middle Ages, it was either one of them or both (or Bohemia) that was at war with Poland.
Later, somewhen in 13th century Holy Roman Empire (Germany) was kinda replaced in it by... Teutonic Order, which full name is Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem, also known as Knights of the Cross, which is a name I'll be using going forward, because it's the one most similar to what we call them in Poland (Krzyżacy, singular being Krzyżak, from word "krzyż" meaning cross. If you want to raw translate this name, it's probably "cross guys"). Anyway, they first showed up in Jerusalem during crusades but then when they failed there, they decided to kill people of other faith closer to home and after being called to help with pagan Prussians that were attacking territories of one of the Polish dukes (Poland was separated into smaller countries that were only kinda tied to each other in 1138, but it's not the time to talk about that), they did help, and then forged some important documents and set up wholeass country in what is now norhtern Poland, Kaliningrad, part of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia (not from the get go, but they reached that size). To keep it short, second Polish ruling family, Jagielonian dynasty, was more or less definied by their wars with Knights of the Cross, with first one, Władysław Jagiełło, Grand Duke of Lithuania, even becoming Polish king because both Poland and Lithuania needed an ally in war with the Order. Because of Knights of the Cross Lithuania got baptised (from Polish hand). Most famous battle in our history, battle of Grunwald, was in war with Order (also, check out Matejko's painting under this name, it's absolutely amazing. Actually, just check out Matejko, he's a legend). Two last kings of this dynasty, Sigmund I Old and Sigmund II August, are considered good kings among all else, because they finally got rid of Knights of the Cross, though many think they should've done it differently, because what was left of the Order later became Prussia, which .
Also, SIgmund II August turned Polish-Lithuanian union from, and here please correct me if I translated the terms wrong, personal, menaing one ruler two countries, to real, meaning that Poland and Lithuania became one country, known as Polish-Lithanian Commonwelth (in Polish it's Rzeczpospolita Obojga Narodów, which can be translated as Republic of Both Nations). And you know what pushed Lithuanian nobility to agree to it? Russia (and I think they wanted to sell stuff in Poland without border tax whatever it's called in English, since for sure it's not "cło")
Unfortunatelly, Sigmund II died without son or younger brother so Polish and Lithuanian nobility, especially Parliament, made out of Sejm and Senat, was at loss in regard of who should be a king. In the end they decided it should be elected position (before anyone comes at me, yes, I know Jagiellonians were elected too, but they were elected from the same family because they were ruling family, and after Sigmund's death whoever wanted could become the king, if they were of noble blood and won "unanimous" election). Anyway, throughout this period (so from middle of 16th century up to year 1795) it was on and off with Russia, with addition of Sweden and Turkiye (no really, when I've been writing an essay about Polish-Lithuanian foreign policy in first half of 17th century, it was Sweden, Turkiye, Russia, Turkiye, Sweden, Russia, oh, now they're attacking simultaneously) and German nobility was always up as candidates in election, with two of them trying to usurp the throne with use of army when they lost. First one lost, second one won, which was probably symptomatic of Commonwealth's fall as a country, but again, it's much bigger issue I don't have time to go into.
Anyway, through power of politics, money and use of weaknesses of Commonwealth political system (fuck liberum veto) they, though mostly Russia, managed to weaken it and made it they're vassal to the point, where in 1772, 1793 and 1795 with Austria in first and last one, they just yoinked big parts of our territories, and at last, took our independece (in Polish history, this is called "rozbiory" in English partitions. Time between last partition and 1918, when Poland regained independence is called "zabory") and frankly here is where whole beef really starts.
Because, a) they took our independence, I think it's pretty good reason to don't like them, but what's more important, b) they started to try to erase our ethnic and cultural identity. The b) point is why we don't have such big beef with Austria. In Austrian part, Polish language was used in administration, Polish culture was allowed to flourish, there were Polish representatives in Austro-Hungarian parliament. And of course, it wasn't perfect, there is that time when they tricked Polish peasants into ruthlessly murdering local nobility, and this region generaly was kinda forgotten by capital and poor as chuch mouse, but at least they were allowed to be Polish.
At the same time, 19th century is the time, when both in Prussian, later German part of what used to be Commonwealth, and in Russian part seprated into so called autonomy of Kingdom of Poland and on territiories that were sucked into Russia, Polish ethnic identity, history and culture was prosecuted in more or less subtle ways. There are many stories of people send to Syberia (which was kinda to Russia what Australia was to British Empire, just really cold) because they were reading Polish books, or fighting in uprisings. And yes, Kingdom of Poland had a constitution that had many neat things written in it but every one who mattered had it so far up they're ass they could spit random paraghraphs. In schools, even in Kingdom, Russian was main language and lessons of Polish were a thing but they were facultative and during really inconvinient hours, usually with a teacher who knew they couldn't make it too engaging. In Prussia it was also forbidden to learn in Polish, with exception of Religious Education (there was famous protest of children in Września when they tried to take that away). Prussian government was also really forcefully repressing Poles in general, making it harder for them to compete with Prussian buisness or even build a house on their property (Drzymała, the ultimate player, started living in the wagon and moved it a bit every day, so the ban couldn't be applied (it was worded in a way, that meant immobile real estate and since his wagon was mobile... They got him anyway, through some creative use of law).
Anyway, it was a bad time, and I think we would be right to hold grudge even without the absolute tragedy that was WWII and communist reign later, but it happened. So, Poland regained independence in 1918, in 1920 we were already at war with communist Russia, that was won through power of "fuck you we just got our independence, we won't give it away", strategic genius of Polish army commander and Stalin's pride. Then it was kinda chill until 1939, which was good, because we had like... five different laws about trade I think (sorry, I've been writing this post for three hours, I can't be bothered to check right now) and two different sizes of train tracks and bunch of other stuff that needed to be taken care of, even without Great Depression and authoritarianism.
And then there was WWII, during which Poland lost biggest amout of people, when compared to the size, and most of them were civilians because a) before war around 30% of population was fromethnic minorities and biggest one were Jews, b) Slavic people were only slightly "better" in eyes of nazi's than Jews c) Soviets were also killing or exiling to Siberia a lot of people. And I mean, a lot. When Hitler attacked, only from men who were exiled Stalin managed to form 2 armies, and it's even without dozen thousand of Polish army and police officers, who were murdered in 1939-40. And they were murdered, because there is something called the law of war (geneva conventions for example) and according to it, prisoners of war are supposed to be kept alive and relatively well, and they were prisoners of war. And they were shot in the back of their heads and buried in mass graves, sometimes with some substances that were supposed to make body unidentifiable.
Also, in Poland we have the most of concentration camps because here lived the most of people that were supposed to be killed, the food rations that Poles were legally allowed to eat were downward starvation rations, you could never tell, when going down the street you could be shot or taken away to concentration camp just because, nazi's destroyed around 80% of Warsaw (Polish capital) urban fabric and according to Hitler's order stone on the stone was not supposed to be left and so on and so on. Also, they stole a lot of great pieces of art and suff and we're still searching for some of them, but really, it's pretty minor in comprasion.
From my family history, only from my one grandma I have both relative killed by Soviets, for simple sin of working in City Hall, and relative killed by nazis (my great grandpa)
And then after the WWII USSR came to "liberate" us, which was really from bad to worse, and involved great population displacement and we only managed to get rid of them in 1989, and sorry, I won't elaborate right now, because it's still too close and too much of a lived experience to many, including my parents and I can't promise I won't get a bit too aggressive about it
So yeah, asking if Poland is closer to Germany or Russia is really, really insensitive and fucked up and don't do it please. It's esecially asking which of our oppressors are we closer to and it's just... no. But asking if were closer to Czech or Lithuania could be funny and interesting conversation actually (unless Lithuanians would get mad about that, I heard they don't like us Poles all that much)
Just saw on Quora a guy asking if Poland was more German or Russian and every reply was a Polish guy detailing the ways they wanted to kill him

Spitfire Mk XVI TE311, the latest addition to the Memorial Flight fleet, is a low-back/bubble-canopy Spitfire with ‘clipped’ wingtips. by Mark Mowbray Via Flickr: Spitfire Mk XVI TE311, the latest addition to the Memorial Flight fleet, is a low-back/bubble-canopy Spitfire with ‘clipped’ wingtips.TE311 was built at Castle Bromwich just after the war had ended, being taken on charge by the Air Ministry on 8th June 1945, and delivered to No 39 Maintenance Unit (MU) at Colerne, where it was placed in storage. From October 1945 to February 1946, TE311 was flown by the Handling Squadron of the Empire Central Flying School (ECFS) at Hullavington. It was then stored at No 33 MU at Lyneham until May 1951 when it was allocated to No 1689 Ferry Pilot Training (FPT) Flight at Aston Down. On 21st June 1951, TE311 suffered damage in an accident. Repairs were completed by Vickers Armstrong and the aircraft was returned to 1689 FPT Flight on 31st December 1951. It was subsequently allocated to the Ferry Training Unit at RAF Benson until September 1953 before being returned to 33 MU at Lyneham. In January and February 1954, TE311 served briefly with No 2 Civilian Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Unit at Langham, Norfolk, before being returned to the MU at Lyneham again on 23rd February 1954. On 13th December 1954, TE311 was officially grounded and transferred to non-effective stock. For the next 12 years the aircraft was a ‘gate guardian’ on the main gate at RAF Tangmere. Then, in 1968, TE311 was loaned to Spitfire Productions Ltd, who temporarily modified it with a false rear fuselage to resemble a Mk 1 Spitfire and restored it to taxying condition so that it could be used during filming of ground sequences for the epic film ‘Battle of Britain’. When filming was completed, a RAF working party restored the Spitfire to its original configuration and it was then allocated to the RAF Exhibition Flight. For over 30 years, from 1968 to 1999, TE311 was displayed as a static exhibit at many air shows, regularly being dismantled and re-assembled for transportation by road.In January 2000 TE311 was delivered to RAF Coningsby for ‘spares recovery’ (along with Spitfire Mk XVI TB382, which was broken up for spares and struck off charge). Chief Technician Paul Blackah MBE decided that the aircraft merited a re-build to flying condition. This was started in October 2001, with a small team of engineers initially working on the aircraft in their own time, until official approval was received from the Ministry of Defence in 2007 to return TE311 to flying condition as part of the Flight. After a painstaking re-build lasting 11 years the aircraft was returned to an immaculate and extremely authentic standard, and it took to the air again, for the first time in 58 years, on 19th October 2012. Great credit is due to the Memorial Flight engineers, especially Paul Blackah – the team leader and the driving force behind the project – whose skills and perseverance have resulted in another airworthy Spitfire being added to the limited numbers of these iconic aircraft.TE311 is painted to represent Spitfire Mk XVIe TB675 ‘4D-V’ of No 74 Squadron, the personal aircraft of Squadron Leader AJ ‘Tony’ Reeves DFC, the Squadron’s Commanding Officer from the end of December 1944. No 74 Squadron was part of 145 Wing, 2 TAF.In March 1945, whilst based at Drope, just inside Germany, the Squadron received Spitfire XVIs, which it flew alongside its LFIXs,using them as fighter-bombers on armed-reconnaissance and close air support operations during the advance into Germany. The ground targets attacked by the Spitfires during the last months of the war were numerous and varied. These operations exposed the Spitfires and their pilots to extremely dangerous return fire from the ground – everything from deadly 88mm anti-aircraft guns to small arms fire.
