Section 3: Workin’ Boys

All of my “notes” here are just gushing about the characters. I have written nothing useful enough to be put here

Section 4: Workin’ Boys talkback

Chad was not included in WB because it was deemed that nobody could live up to the legend. This spawned the “Darren 4 Chad” movement in chat

The Workin’ Boys album will be out around next week if all goes to plan. It is 5 tracks and would include Mariah’s version of the Show Stoppin’ Number monologue as well as at least some of her singing it (as seen in the show; hoping for a full version!!)

Mariah’s character in the audience was called Woman.

Lauren’s character in the audience was Courtney, Thrash’s girlfriend from Killer Track

Paul Gabriel’s character was Paul Gabriel

Linda Monroe auditioned for Workin’ Girls and was the only one who didn’t get a part (Ruth was chosen over her). This is why she was happy to see it crash and burn

The programmes made for Workin’ Girls had very detailed bios, which hopefully when in full quality will be readable when paused. This may set up the potential for the Workin’ Girls actresses to be in future HF projects where this can be explored

Jaime will hopefully be in the next Starkid musical!!!!

The Black Book was originally supposed to debut in Workin’ Boys, in its original form in 2020

The 2020 version was planned as a feature-length film but eventually it was decided that it was confusing and remodelled.

The Summoning was supposed to be in Workin’ Boys – the producer would have tricked Hidgens into making the girls perform a ritual; it was realised that this didn’t make much sense so the song was transferred to NPMD

Section 5: The Future Of Hatchetfield

Hatchetfield was supposed to be finished by 2020

Starkid is not going to be exclusively Hatchetfield in the future; their next full-length musical will not be Hatchetfield

NMT3 is hopefully going to happen provided there is enough interest! It was supposed to happen in the same year as NMT2 but they take a long time to write (much longer than a full musical) so that couldn’t happen

NMT3 would conclude Lex and Hannah’s story after Yellow Jacket

It would be produced more face to face like a TV show – Nick said “less Zoom call-y”

It would include stories withheld from NMT1 and NMT2

It would entirely depend on how much interest, particularly views on NMT2.

It would be Halloween themed.

The next Hatchetfield full-length musical would probably be about Miss Holloway if there was enough interest.

There is the possibility of a full movie set in Hatchetfield if there is enough interest. (Workin’ Boys was like a trial for how Hatchetfield works in film)

It would be called Cast Party Massacre

“The Hatchetfield Community Players. You will never find a cattier troupe of two-faced thespians. But when the blood begins to flow at their latest show’s cast party, they must consider: is there a secret murderer in their midst? @POPupdates: Milo Manheim and his gf have made a few comments recently about their opinions on Y/N L/N and her reputation with the media. Both stated that they agree with the backlash she's getting and find it reasonably as its consequences to Y/N L/N's actions. The Singer has yet to make any comment on any aspect as the L/N has been MIA from the media and hasn't been seen publicly since February 13th.

@Alexculture: The Arctic Monkeys Have started their North America section of their World Tour after 2 months of touring the UK, however during this tour there's been many comments and talk about his relationship with "singer" Y/N L/N. Alex has yet to make a clear comment on their situation or if their is a situation at all, but he did say in a interview last weekend that he would "prefer privacy in relationships and life.".

The Wentworth Family Album: Volume XIV

It's been a very long while since we've caught up with the Wentworths.

Even though dedicated auntie Henrietta has recently moved out, the four youngsters still couldn't have a more nurturing environment, with their two devoted grandparents, in addition to their diligent parents.

Nor a more stimulating one.

Thomasina is becoming quite accomplished on the violin.

While Frederica prefers painting.

Although they're all quite Shy by nature, they have their friends too - such as their cousin Philippa, who has recently started school with them.

And Octavius - who just loves a party, even if it's only talking about them.

It's not surprising that Valentine hits his 13th birthday feeling ready to take on the world.

Would you mind a Gr***e and Andrew timeline? I was trying to work back from Glastonbury to see where she fitted in amongst Andrew and Paul.

From Reddit and G stans:

1) Paul and G first rumoured to be hanging out/dating Oct 23. She has gigs in UK that month. According to G fangirls they parted after 2 months cos "he wasn't over Phoebe".

Andrew in Vanya until end of October 23. We know Paul saw Vanya at least twice.

2) Dec 23/Jan 24 Andrew and Paul hang out a lot, go on GN show like limpets. Baftas and all happened.

3) April 24, G announces she's recording new album The Secret of Us.

Andrew and Paul spotted in NY. Happy selfie.

4) 14th May 24 Gucci party. Andrew and Paul close again.

5) 16th June 24 Andrew turns up at NP marathon. Paul looks v happy to see him. Spotted heading home together.

6) June 21st 24 G's album released. That same day, P and G are seen together at miserable lunch.

7) June 27th 24 Andrew and Paul on AOUS panel. Lots of physical closeness. Confirmed dancing until dawn at Downlow.

8) July 13th 24 G plays Bristol and there are rumours that Paul met her afterwards and she came back to the Chiltern Firehouse to see him. Another spotting at a gig together that week. Basically there were a few little spottings during this week but they weren't viral. G leaves UK by 15th July.

9) August 24 Andrew and Paul not seen together since Glastonbury at the end of June. G and Paul papped.

Setting it out does make it look like maybe something happened at Glastonbury. Paul was unhappy about idea of coming out? Or he knew he wasn't going to and told Andrew?

He decided that weekend to get together with a girl who wrote an entire frigging album about him, and told Andrew? Or he decided in mid July that this was the direction he was going to take?

Or Andrew decided they weren't going to work out? But then, why is he talking to JB about "good time" if things went very wrong. Because things didn't go wrong until mid-July when Paul met up with G again?

End of June to mid-August is confusing.

Well, we know Paul was out at gay bars with Andrew in October, holding his hand and being dragged to the dancefloor. Yeah, he saw the show at least twice and went out for his birthday and at least one other time. He was also spotted in gay bars multiple times.

Of course, Paul was rumoured to have been with 6 or 7 different women during this period as well. I am still not sold on Paul and Gracie being authentic, as the pap walks are obviously staged and the time in line with Gladiator 2 and the drug video. I am not saying they are fake, but the way this is presented to the public is not authentic which then makes me question things.

Yeah, I know think that he and Andrew spoke about this at Glastonbury and things changed that Saturday/Sunday. But also, Andrew has left heart emojis and Nell posted that super couply photo. I am not convinced that is done and I think we will see them again. I suspect it's all gone a bit quiet for promotional reasons but maybe that is just my Mescott delusion.

IDK about anyone else but Paul's whole look, mannerisms and even voice has changed since the Gladiator promo tour started?

Today is finally the day, your debut album is coming out and you should be over the moon, you should be enjoying being out with your friends celebrating, but instead all you can think about is the words Matty spoke to you last summer. You hadn’t really spoken to him since, you’d been out with all the boys since then, you really couldn’t avoid it cause somehow Kelsey and Ross were still going strong all these years later, so you’d seen Matty, you just hadn’t spoken to him past a simple greeting. The club you were at was hosting a release party for you, a small area roped off for just your group, your manager had set everything up as a surprise, you would’ve been fine with a small listening party in your flat, but Kelsey insisted you go along with the idea and enjoy your big day. Honestly she was probably more excited for the release than you were, she’d been planning your outfit for the last week, acting as if it was your wedding day.

The situation at hand felt all too familiar to you, the fact that she’d picked you out a green dress to wear only added onto the nostalgic feeling, but you could never say no to her. You’re currently downing your third dirty shirley of the night, you were over an hour into the party and there was still another 45 minutes before the album dropped and your sad music would be blaring through this club, you almost left bad for the people who came out here who didn’t know what they were about to be subjected to. George and Adam are the first of the boys to arrive besides Ross who’d come early with you and Kels, they walk over to your chosen spot in a booth in the far corner of your section, they both greet you with a hug.

“Don’t look too happy about beating us to an album now y/n!” George jokes to you.

“Oh please we all knew she’d be the first.” Adam nudges your arm. “But for real love what’s with the sulking in the corner? It looks like it’s Kels’s release party!”

All three of you look to Ross and Kelsey dancing together to whatever upbeat club song was playing at the moment, the instrumental far too loud and drowning out any words that would help you identify it, you give a small laugh.

“Just preparing myself for the world to either hate it or love it I guess, I’m ungodly nervous.” You admit to the two.

“Oh please y/n/n! ‘With Your Permission’ is going to smash, every song is a fucking tune and you know it!” George had always been the most encouraging about your music dreams.

“Everyone’s a critic though.” You reply slamming back the rest of your drink, when you look back up you see Matty entering with his girl of the week on his arm. “I need a shot! George care to join me?”

He smiles and follows you back up to the bar, you can’t see but you feel Matty’s eyes following you both as George snakes his arm around your waist guiding you through the crowd.

“4 shots of Tequila please.” You smile kindly at the bartender as he prepares the liquor for you both.

“Any particular reason for the excessive alcohol consumption?” George teases you as the shots are set in front you both.

“Killing the nerves babes.” You smile at him, it’s only a partial lie, you were trying to drown your nerves in alcohol, but it wasn’t about critics or ratings, it was about his best mate who’d drunkenly confessed his love for her just barely 5 months ago now.

“Good enough for me.” He kisses your forehead and you both shoot back two shots in each in quick succession.

Afterwards your eyes find Matty’s and you can’t read his expression like you usually could… it was going to be a long night.

2006:

George and you and had been off and on since the dance, you weren’t really official in the dating sense, but when you both got horny or felt like being romantic you knew exactly who to go to. No one in the group questioned it, you were teenagers and you had sworn to Kelsey about a thousand times that you didn’t want anything serious and she trusted your decisions. The only person who took issue with it was Matty for now obvious reasons, he never really said it but his body language and snide comments told you enough about how he felt. Especially now as you were currently sat on George’s lap at another one of your school mate Josh’s parties, his hands on your waist and one of yours playing with the ends of his hair and the other holding a cider Ross had just brought you on his way back outside from the kitchen. Your whole group was gathered around a makeshift fire pit in the backyard, the heat from the flames keeping you all warm in the crappy early english spring, you were honestly surprised it hadn’t started raining yet as you stared at the dark clouds overhead.

“I’m bored!” Kelsey interrupts the comfortable silence you all’d built up, minus the muffled party music coming from inside the house. “Ooo! Let’s play a game!”

The group groans in unison at the suggestion, but when she breaks out the puppy dog eyes at Ross he’s quick to convince everyone to agree to a drinking game.

“What game do you even have in mind?” You ask your best friend wondering what she might have up her sleeve this time.

“Let’s do never had I ever! You say something you’ve never done, and if someone in the group as done it, they have to take a shot! Adam would you be a dear and go grab us a bottle of something and a few those little plastic shot glasses I saw in kitchen? I’d make Ross do it but he’s just got back from the last trip I sent him on.” And of course no one can say no to Kelsey, so Adam nods and is off to the house.

You all set up in a little circle on the patio beside the fire pit, you’d taken your spot next to George and somehow you’d ended up directly across from Matty on the other side of the circle, his stare held on you and he nursed one of his many smokes of the night. You and Matty hadn’t spoke of what happened at the dance since that night, you’d felt bad in a way about how you’d just left him there, but he knew you liked George, his best mate, and he’d still kissed you. Adam returned with two bottles, one apple sourz and a store brand tequila, a baggie of shot glasses under one arm, behind him trailed the host Josh and you and Kelsey’s school friend Maya.

“Hope you don’t mind but I brought along some randoms to make it more interesting.” Adam says as he hands everyone a shot glass and places the alcohol in the center of the circle.

The game started innocent enough with stupid and playful “Never Have I Ever”s, everyone had taken as least 2 shots at this point, and you were all definitely starting to feel the affects of the alcohol. George had made the mistake of getting on Matty’s nerves by using a very specific embarrassing example to get him to take a shot, and what happened next didn’t help.

“Okay! Ummm.” It was Maya’s turn, and she had no clue what flood gates she was about to open, and neither did you. “Never Have I Ever… had sex…” She admitted quietly.

Ross and Kelsey both took their shot expectantly, as did Matty, you felt your face heat up as your glanced to George at your side, he quirked his eyebrow up at you as you both smiled and threw back your shots together.

“Y/N L/N!” Kelsey shouts from other side the circle. “You dirty dog! Why didn’t you tell me!?” She faked being hurt as she placed a hand over her heart.

You put your face in your hands at the new found attention from the group and leaned over into George, he sweetly rubbed your back and laughed a little at your embarrassment, but you knew it wasn’t in a mean way. The one person you expected to make a comment hadn’t spoken up at all, just sat in silence with a small smirk on his lips, something brewing in his eyes. Josh’s turn was next, then Adam, and finally it was Matty’s turn.

“Hmmm…” He feigned being deep in thought about what he’d say. “Oh! I know! Never Have I Ever kissed my date’s best mate while at a school dance.”

Silence overtook the group after he spoke, your face stilled and your heartbeat quickened as you made eye contact with him.

“That is so weirdly specific.” Maya laughs not knowing the gravity of the situation.

“Well?” Matty speaks up again. “Go ahead and take your shot June Bug.”

Everyone’s eyes were on you again, but this time it wasn’t embarrassment you left it was anger, you held your gaze on him as you took your shot.

“My turn.” You say with heat behind your words that everyone could feel.

“Umm no it’s Kels-” Josh tried to speak up before Adam slapped a hand over his mouth.

“Never Have I Ever tried to throw my best mate under the bus by telling his date all he wants from her is a ‘good shag’ before telling her I’ve always cared about you more then kissed her without thinking about the repercussions of my actions.” It’s your turn smirk at him. “Go ahead Matty…” You say drawing it out. “Take your shot.”

George is quietly fuming beside you and his grin on your waist tightens as Matty grits his teeth and takes his shot, the tension in the air is so think you could cut it with a knife, and your just glad you can tell his anger isn’t directed at you, but at the curly headed brunette.

“Jesus Christ Matty.” George mutters as he rubs his temples with his free hand. “You know if I wasn’t drunk as shit right now I would break your fucking nose.”

“Damn Matty you did not think that through.” Josh laughs trying to lighten the mood and failing.

Kelsey is watching at you as you stand up and turn to George, a worried expression on her face. “Fancy yourself a ‘good shag’ babes?” You smile at him.

He looks up at you, smiling right back. “With you? Always.” You grab his hand as he stands up, you both pass Matty as you walk to the house, but George pauses for a moment and leans down to Matty’s ear. “She’s bloody fantastic in bed by the way.”

You both enter the house taking up residence in the master bath for some privacy, meanwhile outside Ross is handing Matty’s ass to him on platter. Only Adam knew the true nature of Matty’s feelings for you, Matty didn’t open up about how he felt about these kinds of things easily, only telling Adam after he’d gotten wasted at his after the dance. Matty truly did feel bad with how he’d handled telling you about how he felt, but tonight he was drunk and high and couldn’t stop himself from being an ass after learning the George had been the one to deflower you.

“Lay off him man.” Adam tried to to speak up and Ross whips his head towards him.

“Are you kidding me! He acted liked a child and practically decided to try and ruin his relationship with not only y/n but his best mate as well in the process!” He yells, he then redirects his attention back to Matty. “What we’re you thinking Matthew!?”

Matty sat in silence now, just taking everything Ross had to throw at him, at some point before now he’d reached for the apple sourz and began to down as much as he could, feeling every emotion and yet none all at the same time. Kelsey was rubbing Ross’s back trying to get him to calm down but it wasn’t working and she eventually gave up, going to sit between Josh and Maya, trying to process the events of what just happened and why you hadn’t told her.

After several more minutes of verbal abuse from the friendly giant Matty had finally had enough. “FUCK OFF ROSS, I’M BLOODY IN LOVE WITH HER! OKAY!?”

Silence overtook the group once again, everyone finding out the truth 4 years before you did.

Golden

Golden and Fine Line are the bookends of the album and written first. Golden is so joyous, but also asking his muse to let him in, in Fine Line they cross the friendship line and the album ends on an uncertain note but 'we'll be alright'.

I have watched this video more than I'll ever admit, I love it so much. This section where he's running as hard as he can to catch up to her:

This is similar to this part of As it was, it tells of their break ups, hook ups, careers happen and he loses her, stops trying to catch up and runs alone, devastated (before he lets go of the past and dances off):

The film clip was in September 2020, 2 years after writing the song.

Writing

To Rolling Stone:

That places it around September 2018, after he broke up with Camille and the events of Fine Line(/Cruel Summer.)

To Zane Lowe, Harry said he started with an idea for the album but not the release date in mind. Harry talked about having a plan for future albums but he took Tyler's advice to make Fine Line the record he wanted to make now as opposed to what was planned. This is interesting because:

October 2012 - While they were dating, the Red Liner notes foreshadow a future album that included 'love shines golden'

August 2019 - Lover is released on the 13th year of her career, before her 30th birthday, ending on "Love is Golden like Daylight"

13 December 2019 - on Taylors 30th Birthday Fine Line is released, opening with 'You're so Golden, take me back to the light'.

In the first verse is depicted in the film clip, working as hard as he can to win back this person with his own success and love for them. He often describes his muse as in the sky (here), chasing clouds (Story of my Life, Late night talking MV) and "I'm on the roof, you're in your airplane seat" in Daylight, also that MV has him climbs down a ladder in the sky.

The second verse is moving from desiring the muse to being vulnerable, As it was is more direct on this saying that "In this world, it's just us / You know it's not the same as it was" which means this muse is the only person for him. To me, that person is Taylor and there is an overtone of being isolated by fame here and finding someone who feels like home in an unmanageable life.

I think Fine Line overall, and Harry's House to a greater degree show maturing. When talking to Zane about Cherry Harry said: "In the moment I felt like I was realizing some stuff about being more open and not being, like 'I don't care'".

I think, where the 1D songs are about young love and the debut songs are like an open wound - it is not until Fine Line he started to look with some distance on what was lost.

The Gazette symbolism analysis - part 5 - Alchemy and Mass

I realized that the O in DOGMA is stylized like the alchemical Salt glyph.

pic 2 - salt, sulphur & mercury, below them the 4 elements.

In pic 3 (from Dogma video) you can see the sulfur symbol as well as the 4 elements.

Salt represents matter, solid and physical. Sulphur represents the soul, the fire. Mercury represents the mind, flexible and changing, the bridge between the body and soul.

Top left is a symbol for the Philosopher's stone (completion of the alchemical work.) Top right is the GazettE logo from Beautiful Deformity, below it is what was used in Ugly MV and next to it - same symbol, but now in a black cube - is from the Undying teaser.

The circle or Moon shows up later. Top left, what was the salt symbol is now 2 halves of the moon. Next to it - Shikkoku Moon, purple because of Yesod. Bottom left - Undying, and lastly MASS.

"It will all end with a blood red moon" to quote Wasteland lyrics.

Wasteland is extremely important. When promoting Shikkoku DVD they always featured the red moon. The purple from before Shikkoku, turned red. And the spinning disc, what I assume is a wheel of samsara is in the DOGMA video as a glyph, if you look at the Ruki picture at the start of this post, it's on the very left - opposite Venus.

The 2 of them are like the positive and negative principles. Like our guitarsists. Like the Goddesses of Death and Rebirth. Or like Abyss (the dark depths of the psyche) and Lucy (lucifer meaning "the morning star", "the planet Venus", "light-bringing", "dawn")

Or like the 2 hands of the DOGMA priestess, Solve et coagula.

West it where the Sun sets (or dies) and East is where it rises (is reborn again each day). West is the left side of the stage and East is the right.

Aoi is on the left of the stage and he composed Wasteland. It's a death infused song. Uruha is on the right side of the stage he composed the 3 red goddess tracks on Ninth (think red beam entering Ruki's heart during Babylon's Taboo.) Daleth is the path of rebirth, ruled by Venus. Venus is also attributed to Netzach (generally translates to 'eternity') it's colour is emerald green, a bit like Uruha's Hellion.

From Kenneth Grant's "Hecate's Fountain" (Note: Daath is also known as the Abyss and this quote describes the ritualistic meaning of Shikkoku pretty well):

Lyrics "Sleep... count me down..." connect Ominous and Undying. During Dogmatic Un and Due they insisted on having a lingering mist on stage throughout the show. And dazzling white light is a massive part of To Dazzling Darkness stage visuals.

Also, since I was doing the MASS jacket posts recently...

This row specifically made me come back to the Philosopher's Stone symbol, since these are the shapes that form it.

Here are some recurring motifs from the Ruki world:

The upside down triangle, feminine yin, water or the collective unconscious.

But if you put it in a hexagram, it becomes a Merkabah. (pic 3 is Dogmatic Un merch)

In the middle of our hexagram (pic 4) is the Leviathan Cross, another symbol for the alchemical Sulfur. The hexagram spins in the DOGMA video. Merkabah is known as a spinning vehicle to other realms.

The 3 alchemical stages as the 3 lives broadcast right before the release of MASS. Ninth Final was broadcast on MASS release day, this connects them as the RED (Rubedo) albums. Another thing that connects them is the all containing (visually) MASS jacket and the all containing (musically) Ninth SE 99.999. Also it was May 26th for MASS and June 13th (note: T H I R T E E N) for Ninth's release dates, making them both Gemini twins, or 2 heads of the same Gemini.

As I mentioned in a previous post, each of their "looking back at the past" tour/show is a death (hence the death goddess and monochrome aesthetic, like the colorless realm of death) and each new look with a new album is a rebirth in the never-ending cycle of samsara.

Crows & ravens THE primary symbol of Nigredo. In general, the sky is the mind (Air), birds are thoughts, crows are dark thoughts or thoughts about death or depressive thoughts.

Dim Scene lyrics: "We chase away the crows that gather around us     their squawking cries ceasing, until every one of them has fled"

Did they flee with Blinding Hope and the appearance of the dove? Not sure. Maybe there is a balance of both crows and doves now...

The dove, the rose, blood and the phoenix are all associated with Rubedo and the Holy Spirit or the Goddess (In our case it's the NINTH goddess, but we've also had quite a few variations over the years)

All her symbols were also constantly featured, Redefinition tour being the prime example. NLDH - roses, PWTDS - blood.

GOVC is the early version of the Ninth goddess and she begins that transformation by enveloping herself in red in the 13th anniversary teaser. 13th anniversary being THE release day of this Redefinition DVD. So of course Ninth goddess is wearing a military hat, like the Gazette's 13th Anniversary look. After all, "That day was the beginning of it all, 13 stairs foretell the metamorphosis." These are DAWN lyrics and yes, you guessed it, dawn is another symbol of her.

We did not see a phoenix itself until the teaser for the new album (even though the motif of rebirth is a common theme in the lyrics, most notably Ninth Odd Smell).

This is Fenghuang, the Chinese version of a phoenix, Hoo bird is its Japanese equivalent:

So, I've been mentioning sefirot, like Yesod, Binah and Netzach, if you are wondering what that is.

The 1st graph depicts the colours of sefirot correctly, and the tarot cards you can see on the sides are associated with paths between sefirot.

So, the purple one is Yesod, ruled by the Moon, which connects her with the High Priestess tarot card or the path of Gimel which goes through the Abyss (Daat,) the void sefira.

The green sefira Netzach, as you can see, is one on the right, the positive pillar, and is associated with Venus. The path that corresponds with that is Daleth (the door) or the gateway through which you are reborn as your higher self. It connects the black sefira Binah, to Chokmah, at the top of the tree.

These 2 paths cross and both are very much related to the Abyss, as an entrance and an exit.

The 13th tarot card Death (scorpio), interestingly, is the path connecting Netzach to Tiferet. And who composed our death song 13STAIRS[-]1 ? Yes, our Venusian, green Hellion wielding, Uruha.

The 2nd picture of the Tree of Life is useful because it highlights the 2 Pillars - negative and positive. You can look at them as shimote - kamite. With the red man himself (Ruki) having the middle pillar all to himself (him and the album jackets.) The 6 sefirot around Tiferet could form a hexagram, in fact hexagrams are often depicted like that with the Sun in the center. And the red circle of Sun is reminiscent of the Japanese flag.

The Tree of Life is the very foundation of western esotericism and it seems to be rather well known in Japan, at least among visual kei musicians. Sugizo has a CD named after it and the song Ein Sof is about Keter, sefira at the very top.

From the way The GazettE talk about it, doing music imbued with spirituality is the very core of visual kei, or atleast the old visual kei - that which first inspired them. Sugizo's solo work has so much of this. His album, The Voyage to The Higher Self contains 7 songs - named after the 7 chakras. And he has terms like OTO, Vesica Pisces, LUX, Flower of Life featured in the titles... Luna Sea's - Mother lyrics refer to "Mother of new souls, messiah of new souls" and she is also later in the song referred to as dawn. It is the same mother goddess archetype (the sea from which all life emerges) and every single member of the GazettE, when asked about their root albums, mention Luna Sea's - Mother.

Moving on to this Ruki IG post from 2015, captioned "Ugh, I have so many things to think about that my head feels like it's going to explode🙏":

This is Alejandro Jodorowsky as The Alchemist. It's from Jodorowsky's surrealist movie The Holy Mountain, it's plot is the soul's journey. The 1st pic in the top row was posted on IG by Ruki, but it's cropped. As you can see, in the original art, he has more companions and they all represent planets. This is where I got the idea that on stage, all the GazettE's members represent spheres on the Tree of Life.

Binah & Daath (Black/Saturn) for Aoi. Hod & Geburah for Reita (Red, orange/Mars, Mercury). Netzach & Chokmah for Uruha (Green, opaque white/Venus, Uranus). For Kai it's Chesed (blue/Jupiter) and Malkuth, which is the material sphere. I had the most trouble with assigning Kai a 2nd sefira, and I'm still not entirely sure about it, since Malkuth is in the middle pillar, but it makes a lot of sense since drums as an instrument is the very base of songs and I don't see it fitting for anyone else.

And Ruki has his middle pillar. Yesod is Dogma era priest Ruki (Moon), Tiferet is Ninth, Jesus roleplay Ruki (Sun). The path that connects Yesod to Tiferet is XIV - The Art (Alchemy) in Thoth tarot deck. Which we could also call the Alchemist. It's Sagittarius energy, which means travel (among other things). And what did Ruki do when wearing his best Jodorowsky alchemist cosplay? Yes, travel (World tour Dogmatic Trois)

So, it's tarot: XIII - Death (♏scorpio) for 13th anniversary (2015) XIV - The Art - Alchemy (♐sagittarius) for 14th anniversary (2016) II - The Priestess (moon) DOGMA jacket. III - The Empress (♀ venus) NINTH jacket.

If you look at the Jodorowsky art, the figure behind him is The Priestess (Moon) she has Hebrew letters written on her body, you can also see hebrew letters on tarot cards on my 1st Tree of Life image. The letters represent the kabbalistic paths, and the meaning of tarot cards developed from them.

All of The Alchemist's companions represent planets and you know what else has this plot? Sailor Moon. Remember how Aoi tweeted, many times over the years "We really are Sailor Moon." Yes, some times this was in the context of the transformation that occurs when they put on makeup, but what do they do after that? Perform. Just like the characters of Sailor Moon who are normal girls until it's time to transform and take on their planetary duties.

You know Ruki has this taste for western esotericism, but Aoi prefers everything Japanese? Imagine: Ruki wants to do this - a bit like Jodorowsky, how would he explain it to Aoi? Making him watch an old surrealist movie?! No! Explain it through something he's familiar with. This is how I imagine it went: "Ruki: So, we are going to be Sailor Moon... Aoi: Ok, which one am I? Ruki: Sailor Saturn.. Aoi: Got it! *proceeds to only wear black turtlenecks for years*"

(This is just speculation and should be taken less seriously than the rest of my analysis)

Some more Holy Mountain art, if you look at the 2nd image (below) the 2 opposites united conjure a sacred heart. Around them, money is burning, that's what happens at the end of the movie, it speaks to rejection of material wealth and greed, and greed is a constant motif in Ruki's lyrics.

The 3rd pic is from Neon Genesis Evangelion. As you can see, it also features a Tree of Life. Ruki has seen the anime and he posted about it. I believe it influenced his worldview a lot, however I haven't watched it myself (yet) so I can't comment on it too much.

The origins of AUGUST MOON can be traced back to the year 1993, when a couple of Finnish pimple-faced heavy metal teenagers playing in a band called As Serenity Fades decided that there was more to explore in the metal universe and teamed up with likeminded good friends to form another band in parallel – basically, to get to play more and try out ideas not that suitable for the “main band” at the time. During this first short stint, lasting 1993-1994, AUGUST MOON recorded two demos, Rosegardens in 1993 followed by an untitled two-track demo in 1994, before splitting up with other life interests taking over. These demos were later released by The Crypt label in 2011 as part of the As Serenity Fades / AUGUST MOON – Earthborn / Lowering Sunset / Rosegardens split LP.

midnights (my version)

today 2 years ago taylor swift or if i say with respect "mother" released her tenth studio album titled "Midnights", a collection of songs she wrote on all her sleepless nights. So this album is mine in terms of when i say my midnights are also haunting just like hers. This is basically the first review of Taylor’s album that is basically about what I think, which song I most relates to and other things or whatever you call it, i don't have the exact word for it yet. I just love writing . I love writing poems, songs, stories and sometimes I even writes a script of a short film but I always scrap that because its not like I’m gonna be a writer for a film. or maybe I will, that's all in the future. Whatever, this review is basically the result of the urge to write something because whenever I’m bored, I don’t feel like doing anything else except I wanna write something whether it’s a poem or a song. And that’s is how I ended up writing three album worth songs which in my head are part of a same universe like as a Trilogy. I have only shared those with my friend Vishal and he loved all those. Taylor has officially ended the Midnights era by releasing a new album in April titled-“The Tortured Poet’s Department”, which is another level of songwriting, I will share my views in a future post.

I wouldn’t start by saying this album is amazing and blah blah blah but I will say this album is one of the most amazing pop album i've ever listened. This title for me might change in future as mother loves to change genres and creating amazing music haha. The greatest thing about Taylor’s albums are like you just can’t have a one favorite album. That’s what I personally thinks about because it all depends on seasons, your mood, the whole mess of feelings you are feeling. So if someone says their favorite album is Midnights, make sure you check on them. We all are great actors in our personal lives when it comes to expressing what we are really going through. We don’t like others to know what is bothering us as it takes a lot to explain to them and their reaction to what we say to them is a whole lot scary thing to think about. So most of us likes to keep things up to us only. The hardest part in the 24 hours is the Midnights, when you know everyone else is sleeping and you just know it is your time. You are now free to Cry alone in your room, nobody will ask you anything. As the album’s concept itself is about the 13th sleepless nights, the album is a sea of emotions. You cry listening to THAT song which you relates to the most. Midnights is an escape from the feelings that is keeping a hold on you. You cries and you let those emotions out but still some things can’t be replaced so there’s obviously that will keep you hold onto the memories of a person. The most relatable song on this album are: You’re On Your Own Kid, Bigger Than the Whole Sky, Dear Reader. If you don’t know the last two songs, they’re from the 3 AM edition of Midnights which is different from the Standard edition of Midnights.

The song Bigger Than The Whole Sky reminds me of a person who was the most important in my life and I never got to say goodbye to her. I miss her in my dreams and I never got to tell her how much i love her. I think of my mother whenever I listens to it. The song You’re On Your Own Kid makes me wanna hug a pillow and cry myself out because its not just a song, it is basically a story of every person who was made feel bad, whose ideas were undermined or who was being hurt by the words of other’s. I had friends who were kind in front of others but loved to talk shit about me, spread rumours about me and made fun of me, always making me feel like an outcast when i was trying to fit in. I wish I had never known them but the scars are here to stay and all you can do is move forward and never let anyone bring you down again. The song Dear Reader, is clearly a letter from the Mother to her fans and there is no reason to hate it. It would be stupid of you to hate it. The line “greatest of luxuries is your secrets”, hits me every time. Do not share your deepest secrets with anyone, even if you trust them. That’s what I always interpret this line as. And the most amazing part of the song is the bridge, “so I wander through the nights……”. You always don’t need someone to dedicate a song to. The best time to listen the Midnights is obviously the Midnight when the songs blast in your ears like a book full of messages to learn from every song. The album is for everyone who made feel that they’re the problem, that they’re the villain of the story, everyone who was made feel bad about themselves, everyone who was hurt from other’s views. As I earlier said, Midnights is a sea of emotions.

The collaboration between Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift on this album is like a dream come true. Snow On The Beach never fails to make you feel you’re in love while listening the dreamy voice of Lana & Taylor. The song is magical itself and you feel like standing on a beach with cold breeze of air touching your face and you feel happy from inside with that one person. This interpretation is all based on imagination because I don’t have anyone to stand with someone on the beach and also like beach is hundreds of kilometres from the place i live in, funny haha. If you are a real swiftie, you surely would have listened to all the remixes of the Lavender Haze just like me and it gives you a party vibe every time you listen to it, where you are dancing with someone. For a delusional person like me, it’s enough to feel those feelings in my imagination. Every song on the album is like a story and in your head you can see them happening like a movie. Like in the song Maroon, when Taylor sings, “and I chose you the one, I was dancing with in New York, no shoes” never fails to give the feeling of how much that person is in love at that time and at the same time bringing us out of the feeling by singing “The rust that grew between telephones”.

If you ask me which songs should have had a music video then on my list Midnight Rain is at the top. Imagine Taylor standing in the Rain and singing this song like in the Delicate music video. The song is magical in itself, it expresses all the feelings without having any music video. Another song that I think should had a mv is Maroon. I just love everything about this song. There are still so many songs on this album that are left for me to talk about but I won’t do that. Sometimes good things should always be left for the interpretation of other peoples. Taylor makes us feel things, even if you have never felt those before. I can go on and one but I feel like I’m expressing too much about love which is basically not under my own right. below is the playlist of my version of the album that contains 13 songs which sums up my haunting midnights perfectly!!

K-pop Discography Deep Dives: WJSN

A Disclaimer: I was planning, when I first started Tumblr, to be a lurker, but then I began an office job and needed something to listen to to keep myself occupied. And then, I started going through entire K-pop groups’ repertoires, album by album, and jotting down my thoughts. And then, I stumbled into K-pop tumblr and decided, you know what, there’s at least four people on this hell site who would read in depth rants about these discographies and at least five who wouldn’t read it and then get mad because it’s kind of our job as K-pop fans. My lukewarm takes should be taken with an entire silo of salt and the knowledge that this is completely for fun and occupying my very bored, very neurodivergent brain. All this to say, for the love of god, I’m a sleep-deprived student and I don’t have time for internet hate, so don’t kill me. With that being said, enjoy!

Here are my credentials: unusually, for a girl group, I have very few. I’ve listened to WJSN before, and I know a decent amount of title tracks and a couple b-sides. I would say I know them best from my half-watch of Queendom 2 (I’m a fan of Loona and Gfriend, so I was more focused on them), which WJSN did win. I was impressed with them there, and I decided that I wanted to learn more about them.

WJSN was formed in late 2015 as a Korean-Chinese collaborative between Starship Entertainment and Yuehua Entertainment. The members are divided into four units, one for each letter. First is Wonder, with Cheng Xiao, Bona, and Dayoung. Second is Joy, with Xuanyi, Eunseo, and Yeoreum. Third is Sweet, with Seola, Exy, and Soobin. And fourth is Natural, with Meiqi, Luda, and Dawon. After these units were formed, a 13th member, Yeonjung, was added as well. After being on hiatus since 2018, the three Chinese members, Xuanyi, Cheng Xiao, and Meiqi officially left the group in early 2023. Sorry, that was a lot of names, so deep breaths and let’s do this.

They officially debuted in 2016 with MoMoMo, which is one of the most bubblegum-y bubblegum songs I’ve seen in a while. It’s basically a k-pop stereotype at this point: lots of aegyo, completely coordinated school girl clothes, short skirts, childish love, and very poppy beats. I associate WJSN with more ethereal pop, so this was a (somewhat unwelcome) surprise for me. As often happens to me in k-pop, while I did appreciate its comic book style animation and humor, the excessive aegyo made me uncomfortable (see my review of TXT’s Cat and Dog or LOONA’s Hi High). This isn’t the song’s fault; it’s exactly what it’s supposed to be, but it does mean I won’t be listening to it again.

I’m unsure if Catch Me is also a single or just an opportunity for a dance practice, but it embraces the other side of k-pop stereotypes: a sort-of anti-drop, girl-crush, uncomfortably-sexualized…thing? that tries a bit too hard to be cool. WJSN’s talent elevates it, but even they can only do so much with a song that doesn’t have any character.

The 1st EP, Would You Like?, starts with an intro, Space Cowgirl, that I actually liked more than MoMoMo, and I wish more of its self-assured, smooth synths carried into the song. I liked parts of some of the songs, like the twinkling piano and extended bridge in Tick Tock, but most of them sounded very similar to other songs I’ve heard, and so didn’t stick out to me all that much. I could name at least five exactly like Take My Breath.

Secret begins the sound that I know from WJSN, still drawing on the poppiness, cutesiness, and high vocals of MoMoMo, but pairing it with more toned-on synths, more pointed voices, and more poised dancing, a combination that would become their staple in the next few years. It’s quite interesting to see it here feeling a little less polished. I totally get why they gained the nickname “Cosmic Girls” now, with all the space inspiration here, and while the song itself is nothing groundbreaking, I really liked that lead-in to the last chorus.

The Secret, the EP, has a couple songs I liked. BeBe leans a bit too far into aegyo for me personally, but I enjoy its boundless energy and catchiness. Also, that harmonizing in the last chorus? Sign me up. I also enjoyed the frizzy electronic background of Robot, which reminded me a bit of an f(x) song, although it felt more restrained than one of theirs.

I Wish has a slightly more funk-inspired opening than Secret, and while it still has the roots of aegyo, I’d say it follows the pattern of their songs slowly getting more mature. Still got the schoolgirl outfits, though. The chorus and its “tell me why” is pretty catchy, I will say, and I appreciated a lot of the MV’s visuals in the social media posts, floating lanterns, and emojis.

From. WJSN’s Say Yes caught my attention with its finger-snapping background and slightly Latin-pop-esque warm acoustic guitar. I thought it provided a good contrast to their very electronic synth-heavy music, and made me appreciate their vocals a lot more, especially Yeonjung and Dayoung. The “juseyo, juseyo” is stuck in my head now, and I’m not mad about it. It makes a great addition to my sleep playlist.

Kiss Me’s intro had me intrigued right off the bat, with its fun surf guitar background, and its continuing through the song made this one stand out. I also liked the harsher hand-clapping percussion mixed with the pop, and that the chorus felt like a much more natural progression of the verses and pre-chorus. Still not a fan of the rapping, which comes out of nowhere, but overall this was a great summer track and it got stuck in my head.

Happy is a return to the bubbly, kind-of sporty concept of MoMoMo that was so popular in mid-3rd gen (Red Velvet’s Happiness, TWICE’s Cheer Up, or Fromis_9’s FUN, for example), and I’d be lying if I said I was as happy to see it as the song wants me to be. I definitely liked the humor and the ultra-saturation of the music video, and ended up laughing a good few times. But overall, I’m not a fan of this concept or this type of song, and this song does nothing to change my mind. Also, I feel like the chorus, though it’s pretty good, doesn’t fit in with the rest of the song. I think it’s the sudden tempo change.

Happy Moment is a full album, so there’s a lot to talk about. I liked the bubbly distortion in Miracle, (honestly I wonder why it wasn’t a single, because it really feels like one), the vocalizing in Mr. BadBoy’s choruses, the minimalistic background of Babyface’s verses, the roller skating rush of Geeminy, and especially the lovely musical catharsis of Closer To You (damn, Yeonjung, what a note to end on!). Again, though, what I really liked were parts and besides Closer To You, I didn’t like any song enough to consider it a hidden gem. I know that Happy leans very much into aegyo, but the names of a lot of these songs felt a bit too babyish even for that, and I don’t think that the album needed to be so long, because so many of its tracks felt like filler. I would rather have a five or six track, great-all-the-way-through EP like, say Sunmi’s Warning or SEVENTEEN’s Haeng-Geurae, than a half-as-good album twice that long.

Dreams Come True, I’m happy to say, builds on the good that both Kiss Me and I Wish started, working in more interesting percussion and more ethereal synths. Funnily enough, it goes so far into understated that I didn’t realize the chorus had started until it was almost over, and while it’s got a good base, I think that it needs a stronger, more obvious hook to turn into a classic. I did really like that delicate bridge, though.

Dream Your Dream, the EP, starts strong with Love O’Clock, which doesn’t bother with a drawn out build-up, instead rushing forward right from the first moment. I liked the harmonizing, the strong drumbeat, and the catchiness. I also enjoyed Renaissance’s swirling and soaring vocals (another b-side that could’ve been a single) and Thawing, despite its odder sound effects, charmed me with its earnestness.

Save Me, Save You was the first WJSN song I heard, and is probably the one that best sums up their style. It starts soft, almost not there in the first verse, then tiptoes its way through the pre-chorus, and with a couple drum beats, that magical chorus takes over and suddenly you’re floating. As mentioned, their songs are often a bit too bubbly or understated for me, but I can acknowledge when a song does its style well, and this one absolutely does. I didn’t even mind the rap! I like the setting of the magic school and the incredibly fast shifting in the eyes between the bridge and the last chorus, but I wish it drew itself out more, to make the best use of that excellent vocalizing.

From WJ Please?, the EP, I really had a good time nodding my head to You, You, You, especially during its bridge and last chorus and I added it to my roller skating playlist. I also enjoyed the hints of flamenco and layered strings in the background of I-Yah, a surprisingly lovely sound for the title. It really reminded me of I Knew It by Sonamoo, one of my favorite Latin-pop inspired K-pop tracks. Masquerade also has a great use of strings, this time combined with a gentle piano, and Hurry Up uses a brightly jazzy beat to add some contrast. These four together absolutely make this my favorite EP so far, which is pretty funny, as all these songs are better than the title.

La La Love’s Carnival setting is interesting, and is the decision to have a pre-chorus that leans into sing-talk. The choice mostly works and doesn’t interrupt the good flow that the song has, and I like the high vocalizing that twinkles around the chorus. On the whole, the song is pretty enjoyable and gentle, but, like I usually do, I wish it had more of a hook that would make it stick in my head. Completely different from the last EP, I didn’t have a hidden gem for this one, though I thought 12 O’Clock was nice.

With how much I liked their last summer comeback, I was excited for Boogie Up. The song is pretty upbeat and on the whole, reminds me of a much more bubbly version of Red Flavor by Red Velvet. It’s catchy, but it has a bit too empty of a chorus for me, and doesn’t innovate on a pretty tried-and-true pop formula enough to stand out. I do like the fun instrumental and the bridge, though. Their bridges are almost always pretty great.

From the EP For The Summer, I honestly really liked the song For The Summer with its bright and flouncy energy (though as I often do, I thought the rap was unnecessary), and the horns were a nice touch. Let’s Dance follows in the stead of WJ Please’s great, Latin-pop inspired b-sides, though I don’t think it’s quite as unique as those.

As You Wish has a very bouncy beat from the beginning, and its excellent electronic sound draws from disco. Its pre-chorus build is great as well, and the chorus delivers, making it both one of my favorite titles so far and what I’m sure will become a fixture on my roller-skating playlists. Its last chorus is delightfully bright, but my favorite part is absolutely that outro, which brings together the vocals and the instrumentals perfectly and should’ve been so much longer. From the EP, also titled As You Wish, I liked the vocal showcase and twinkling piano in Lights Up, and the drumline beat of Don’t Touch.

Butterfly is another song I already knew by WJSN, and its bubbly energy works surprisingly well for me. I think this is the first of their title tracks that has a deeper meaning than an average love song, and I’m very happy to see it. There’s never enough songs about freedom and being yourself, in my opinion. The last chorus’ vocalizations, as often in WJSN’s singles, elevates the song greatly, and its fizzy instrumental brings everything together. The visuals of flowing white dresses and puffy clouds are a great addition too.

From Neverland, while I enjoyed the back and forth, rushing energy of Hola and the string-led instrumentation of Where You Are, my hidden gem was absolutely Pantomime. I first heard it while watching Queendom, and though I do definitely prefer the more 20’s jazz-inspired, more theatrical version from their stage there, there’s still a lot to love here. I especially enjoy how clipped and off-beat it is, setting it apart from WJSN other’s b-sides.

Unnatural is a bit of a darker counterpart to Butterfly, also about not quite fitting into normalcy (hence the title). I really liked the rap in this one, and how well it fit into the tempo. Also, the way the pre-chorus pulls back and then rushes forward is great. I like the more minimalistic instrumentals and how they let the vocals flow and speak for themselves. Overall, I think it’s one of their strongest outings. From Unnatural, the EP, I really liked the mix between WJSN’s high voices and the self-assured tone and beat in Last Dance, though I wish the instrumental was more distinctive.

Last Sequence is, at time of writing, WJSN’s most recent comeback, from a year ago. It also falls into the more minimalistic electro-pop synth style of their last few singles, which of course I’m in favor of. I do feel like the chorus needed more of a lead-in than it has, but besides that, I do really like this one. As always, its bridge is great and so is the lead-in to the last chorus (the yeongwohni, yeongwohni, yeongwohni is stuck in my head now). I didn’t have a hidden gem for this comeback, as it’s only a 3-song single.

I’m glad I did this! Like I said, I didn’t know much about WJSN before this review. But, I’ve learned that they were an important part in making what I now consider a very classic 3rd generation K-pop sound, and their music became the blueprint for many groups afterward. I’ve watched some interviews and had some good laughs, and even seen a couple compilations of their best performances on Queendom. I definitely liked their later music more than their earlier, though, and after hearing their work, I’m sad that they don’t come back nearly as often as they used to.

My Top 5 songs are Butterfly, Last Sequence, Kiss Me, I-Yah, and Hurry Up, with Pantomime as an honorable mention . WJSN gets an 8.25 out of 10 from me. I think that on the whole, their songs are pretty good and there were very few I actively disliked. The biggest issue I face is that I listen to and analyze So. Much. K-pop. (probably thousands of songs by now) and because of that, only the groups that do something unique or innovative, have incredible voices, self-produce, or consistently discuss important subjects in their work really stick with me. WJSN is very talented, but while they have a niche, they don’t really add anything new to what’s been done time and time again.
