Elijah and the Widow

8Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 9“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” 10So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” 11And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”

12So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a [a]jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

13And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 14For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ ”

15So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.

Elijah Revives the Widow’s Son

17Now it happened after these things that the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. And his sickness was so [b]serious that [c]there was no breath left in him. 18So she said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?”

19And he said to her, “Give me your son.” So he took him out of her arms and carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed. 20Then he cried out to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, have You also brought tragedy on the widow with whom I lodge, by killing her son?” 21And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him.” 22Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived.

23And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, “See, your son lives!”

24Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.”

Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard about everything that God had done for Moses and for Israel His people, how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.

2And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took in Moses’ wife Zipporah, after he had sent her away,

6And he fnsent word to Moses: “I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons with her.”

7Then Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and he bowed down and kissed him; and they asked each other about their welfare, and went into the tent.

8Moses told his father-in-law everything that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardship that had confronted them on the journey, and how the LORD had rescued them.

9And Jethro rejoiced over all the goodness which the LORD had done for Israel, fnin rescuing fnthem from the hand of the Egyptians.

10So Jethro said, “Blessed be the LORD who rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of Pharaoh, and who rescued the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

11“Now I know that the LORD is greater than all the gods; indeed, fnit was proven when they acted insolently against fnthe people.”

12Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God, and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat fna meal with Moses’ father-in-law before God.

Jethro Counsels Moses

13¶

And it came about the next day, that Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood before Moses from the morning until the evening.

14Now when Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, “What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?”

15Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.

16“When they have a fndispute, it comes to me, and I judge between someone and his neighbor and make known the statutes of God and His laws.”

17Moses’ father-in-law then said to him, “The thing that you are doing is not good.

18“You will surely wear out, both yourself and fnthese people who are with you, because the fntask is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone.

19“Now listen to me: I will give you counsel, and God be with you. fnYou be the people’s representative before God, and you bring the disputes to God,

20then admonish them about the statutes and the laws, and make known to them the way in which they are to walk and the work they are to do.

21“Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.

22“Let them judge the people at all times; and let it be that they will bring to you every major matter, but they will judge every minor matter themselves. So it will be easier for you, and they will carry the burden with you.

23“If you do this thing and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their places in peace.”

So Moses listened fnto his father-in-law and did everything that he had said.

25Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.

26Then they judged the people at all times; they would bring the difficult matter to Moses, but they would judge every minor matter themselves.

27Then Moses said goodbye to his father-in-law, and Jethro went his way to his own land.

In the third month after the sons of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, fnon that very day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.

2When they set out from Rephidim, they came to the wilderness of Sinai and camped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped in front of the mountain.

3And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, “This is what you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel:

4‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.

5‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My fnown possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine;

6and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

So Moses came and called the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the LORD had commanded him.

8Then all the people answered together and said, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do!” And Moses brought back the words of the people to the LORD.

9Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will come to you in a thick cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you and may also trust in you forever.” Then Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.

The LORD also said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and have them wash their garments;

11and have them ready for the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.

12“But you shall set boundaries for the people all around, saying, ‘fnBeware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mountain shall certainly be put to death.

13‘No hand shall touch him, but he shall certainly be stoned or fnshot through; whether animal or person, the violator shall not live.’ When the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, they shall come up to the mountain.”

14So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people, and they washed their garments.

15He also said to the people, “Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman.”

So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were fnthunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud over the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled.

17And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the fnfoot of the mountain.

The LORD Visits Sinai

18Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the entire mountain fnquaked violently.

19When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him with fnthunder.

20Then the LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.

21Then the LORD spoke to Moses: “Go down, fnwarn the people, so that they do not break through to the LORD to stare, and many of them fnperish.

22“Also have the priests who approach the LORD consecrate themselves, or else the LORD will break out against them.”

23And Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for You fnwarned us, saying, ‘Set boundaries around the mountain and consecrate it.’”

24Then the LORD said to him, “fnGo down and come up again, you and Aaron with you; but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break out against them.”

#DailyDevotion God Does Not Forget Your Good Works Of Love To Him & The Saints Heb. 6 9Although we say this, we are convinced that for you, dear friends, there are better things that mean salvation. 10God is righteous to remember your work and the love you showed for Him as you helped His holy people and still help them. 11But we want every one of you to show the same zeal to make certain of your hope until the end, 12and not get lazy but be like those who by believing and being patient inherit what is promised. So after the severe preceding warning about falling away without repentance we have a very nice encouragement from the author. While "those" people may fall away, he is convinced you will not. He believes there are better things that mean salvation for you. He has better things to speak of that lead to salvation. Those things we shall see are the work and person of Jesus Christ, whose person and work gain for us a free salvation. For the moment though, he focuses on us. We live in such a communistic/socialistic era of thinking, we look at our works of faith like they are nothing. We dare not think God will regard them or reward them lest others not be rewarded and/or granted something better than anyone else. To correct this thinking he says, "God is righteous to remember your work and the love you showed for Him. . ." It is righteous to reward good works. It is a righteous thing to treat those better who are diligent and abundant in good works. It is an unrighteous thing to treat and reward everyone the same even if others have been lazy in the faith and who while they may not have been committing active sins, they have been busy living in sins of omission. We are all rewarded for our faith (which itself is a gift of God) with the resurrection to eternal life. In this we are all the same. None of us earns salvation more than another. However, the Word of God is replete with statements indicating those who do more in faith will be rewarded more in the world to come. Those who are faithful in little will be given greater things to do in the world to come and those who are unfaithful, even what they have will be taken from them. So it is important for us, because God is righteous, He is also impartial, and will reward each of us according to our works, to show love for Him and His holy people. We probably need to talk about that a little. Another nice little socialist streak that has infected the Christian Church is that we treat all people the same. Everyone receives should receive the same love of action from us as anyone else. However, St. Paul says in Gal. 6, " 10So whenever we have a chance, let us do good to everyone but especially to the household of believers." In 1 Joh 3 it says, "11This is the message you have heard from the beginning: Love one another." One another in this context is our fellow Christians. We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves, even if they are not Christians. Jesus commanded us to love our fellow Christians though as He has loved us. We should therefore pay special attention to members of our congregations to love them with the love of Christ. We are also reminded here not to get lazy in these acts of love. We called in patience and faith to be busy showing love for our fellow Christians and therefore to the Father in these works, trusting we will inherit the kingdom of God and God Himself in the world to come, believing we will be rewarded if we do not give up. Heavenly Father, grant us such faith in Your promises, that our faith impels us to show You love by loving all Your children in our midst, and grant unto us patience and endurance until the end. The Message of the Man of God

Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, a child, Josiah by name, shall be born to the house of David; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and men’s bones shall be burned on you.’ ” 3And he gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign which the Lord has spoken: Surely the altar shall split apart, and the ashes on it shall be poured out.”

Death of the Man of God

11Now an old prophet dwelt in Bethel, and his [c]sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; they also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king. 12And their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” For his sons [d]had seen which way the man of God went who came from Judah. 13Then he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him; and he rode on it, 14and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. Then he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?”

And he said, “I am.”

15Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”

16And he said, “I cannot return with you nor go in with you; neither can I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place. 17For [e]I have been told by the word of the Lord, ‘You shall not eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by going the way you came.’ ”

18He said to him, “I too am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’ ” (He was lying to him.)

19So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water.

23So it was, after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for him, the prophet whom he had brought back. 24When he was gone, a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his corpse was thrown on the road, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the corpse. 25And there, men passed by and saw the corpse thrown on the road, and the lion standing by the corpse. Then they went and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.

Jesus and the Jews. From John 7.

Jesus Christ, the Embodied Supreme Being came to institute Shabbat and encourage mankind to envelope all of its citizens in equal rights and the benefits of God's Graces. The Pharisees argued with Him about this, claiming He should nurture His own people first.

Eventually they agreed with Jesus it was in the best interests of the Shule if He did what He came to do. They parted friends, leaving Jesus with some advice: explain yourself in greater detail, which He did during the Sermon on the Mount which follows John 7.

Antisemitism itself is such a strange phenomenon- the Book of John says the Rabbinate summoned Jesus, argued with him then let him go saying they blessed His Mission. The legendary rejection of the Jew that caused all of this trouble is not in the Gospels. It was pure imagination. Silly but true. 

The Rabbis even say "We are not trying to kill you!!!" John even says the Temple Police were impressed with Jesus.

Things do not go well for Jesus later because mankind is savage and wanted to maintain its wicked behavior but the murder of Christ is not premeditated by the Gospels something has to be done to clear the record about the world's remaining Jews and their connection to the Christ which was accepted by the Rabbinate in the Book of John.

Jesus and His Brothers

1After this, Jesus traveled around the country of Galilee. He did not want to travel in Judea, because the Jewish leaders there wanted to kill him. 2It was time for the Jewish Festival of Shelters. 3So his brothers said to him, “You should leave here and go to the festival in Judea. Then your followers there can see the miracles you do. 4If you want to be well known, you must not hide what you do. So, if you can do such amazing things, let the whole world see you do them.” 5Jesus’ brothers said this because even they did not believe in him.

6Jesus said to them, “The right time for me has not yet come, but any time is right for you to go. 7The world cannot hate you. But the world hates me, because I tell the people in the world that they do evil things. 8So you go to the festival. I will not go now, because the right time for me has not yet come.” 9After Jesus said this, he stayed in Galilee.

10So his brothers left to go to the festival. After they left, Jesus went too, but he did not let people see him. 11At the festival the Jewish leaders were looking for him. They said, “Where is that man?”

12There was a large group of people there. Many of them were talking secretly to each other about Jesus. Some people said, “He is a good man.” But others said, “No, he fools the people.” 13But no one was brave enough to talk about him openly. They were afraid of the Jewish leaders.

Jesus Teaches in Jerusalem

14When the festival was about half finished, Jesus went to the Temple area and began to teach. 15The Jewish leaders were amazed and said, “How did this man learn so much? He never had the kind of teaching we had!”

16Jesus answered, “What I teach is not my own. My teaching comes from the one who sent me. 17People who really want to do what God wants will know that my teaching comes from God. They will know that this teaching is not my own. 18If I taught my own ideas, I would just be trying to get honor for myself. But if I am trying to bring honor to the one who sent me, I can be trusted. Anyone doing that is not going to lie. 19Moses gave you the law, right? But you don’t obey that law. If you do, then why are you trying to kill me?”

20The people answered, “A demon is making you crazy! We are not trying to kill you.”

21Jesus said to them, “I did one miracle on a Sabbath day, and you were all surprised. 22But you obey the law Moses gave you about circumcision—and sometimes you do it on a Sabbath day. (Really, Moses is not the one who gave you circumcision. It came from our ancestors who lived before Moses.) Yes, you often circumcise baby boys on a Sabbath day. 23This shows that someone can be circumcised on a Sabbath day to obey the Law of Moses. So why are you angry with me for healing a person’s whole body on the Sabbath day? 24Stop judging by the way things look. Be fair and judge by what is really right.”

People Wonder if Jesus Is the Messiah

25Then some of the people who lived in Jerusalem said, “This is the man they are trying to kill. 26But he is teaching where everyone can see and hear him. And no one is trying to stop him from teaching. Maybe the leaders have decided that he really is the Messiah. 27But when the real Messiah comes, no one will know where he comes from. And we know where this man’s home is.”

28Jesus was still teaching in the Temple area when he said loudly, “Do you really know me and where I am from? I am here, but not by my own decision. I was sent by one who is very real. But you don’t know him. 29I know him because I am from him. He is the one who sent me.”

30When Jesus said this, the people tried to grab him. But no one was able even to touch him, because the right time for him had not yet come. 31But many of the people believed in Jesus. They said, “We are waiting for the Messiah to come. When he comes, will he do more miraculous signs than this man has done?”

The Jewish Leaders Try to Arrest Jesus

32The Pharisees heard what the people were saying about Jesus. So the leading priests and the Pharisees sent some Temple police to arrest him. 33Then Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer. Then I will go back to the one who sent me. 34You will look for me, but you will not find me. And you cannot come where I am.”

35These Jews said to each other, “Where will this man go that we cannot find him? Will he go to the Greek cities where our people live? Will he teach the Greek people there? 36He says, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me.’ He also says, ‘You cannot come where I am.’ What does this mean?”

Jesus Talks About the Holy Spirit

37The last day of the festival came. It was the most important day. On that day Jesus stood up and said loudly, “Whoever is thirsty may come to me and drink. 38If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from their heart. That is what the Scriptures say.” 39Jesus was talking about the Spirit. The Spirit had not yet been given to people, because Jesus had not yet been raised to glory. But later, those who believed in Jesus would receive the Spirit.

The People Argue About Jesus

40When the people heard the things that Jesus said, some of them said, “This man really is the Prophet.”

41Other people said, “He is the Messiah.”

And others said, “The Messiah will not come from Galilee. 42The Scriptures say that the Messiah will come from the family of David. And they say that he will come from Bethlehem, the town where David lived.” 43So the people did not agree with each other about Jesus. 44Some of the people wanted to arrest him. But no one tried to do it.

The Jewish Leaders Refuse to Believe

45The Temple police went back to the leading priests and the Pharisees. The priests and the Pharisees asked, “Why didn’t you bring Jesus?”

46The Temple police answered, “We have never heard anyone say such amazing things!”

47The Pharisees answered, “So he has fooled you too! 48You don’t see any of the leaders or any of us Pharisees believing in him, do you? 49But those people out there know nothing about the law. They are under God’s curse!”

50But Nicodemus was there in that group. He was the one who had gone to see Jesus before. He said, 51“Our law will not let us judge anyone without first hearing them and finding out what they have done.”

52The Jewish leaders answered, “You must be from Galilee too! Study the Scriptures. You will find nothing about a prophet coming from Galilee.”

Galilee means "cylindric scroll." Probably a reference to the Torah, which finished with references to Jericho not Galilee.

The reason Jesus was questioned about this is it has to do with the Lottery. The Promised Land was deeded in bits and proportions to the 12 tribes and 70 clans meaning, "a good recipe is 10% Reuben, AKA Leadership, 15% Shimon, "a good reputation", etc.

There are no mentions of Messianic personality types called Tribe of Galilee so those Rabbis were trying to tell Jesus a piece of His logic needed further definition. In my opinion, He did it in the Sermon on the Mount which he published right after the scene above. The Sermon on Mount Olivet is simply the most wonderfully blessed speech in the Canon, AKA "the cylinder scroll", or Galilee.

All scripture must follow the model that underpins the Torah, one which follows an upward spiraling staircase. The Gospels and Book of Mormon are not exceptions. The Rabbinate suggested to Jesus without following an upward cylindric structure, His teachings would be incomplete. At the top of every lesson in the West is Shabbat, Holy Communion, unity of sentiment between all men and the Spirit of God.

The Value in Gematria is the conclusion to this frame which takes place in John 8:1: 1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

The Number is 3945, גטדה, gathada, "to prepare the wine press."

昨シーズンまでの釜石だとあまり考えられなかったフルに枠��使ったラインアップ。

外国出身選手でメンバーに入ってないのは、SOジョシュ、FLヘニー、CTBダスくらい。

今のところではベストと言えるメンバー。開幕までは1ヶ月。

東葛戦といえば、何年か前、小村監督時代に8月の試合だというのに「ピークが来てしまった」試合を思い出します。そのあとの日野との練習試合で見るからにコンディションが落ちていった選手たちのコンディションは戻らず、前半の強豪との対決を全敗した苦い思い出のあるカードです。

本番でも2試合戦う相手。お互い簡単には手の内を見せないでしょうが、あちらも本気のメンバーです。しっかり戦って残り1ヶ月で解決すべき課題が見つけられるといいですね。

我孫子、めっちゃ遠いんですが見に行きます。

October 7

Philippians 1:6,9-10 6being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

9And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ,

Paul certainly had a heart of love for the churches. Those believers were very precious to him. He is encouraging them with the fact that he is confident that God will carry on to completion what He started in their lives until Jesus returns. The Christians of that day had to deal with persecution. They must have wondered at times if they would stand strong. Paul reminded them that it is God's work, not just their own ability.

When I was a child, I would sometimes start something and then lose interest. My father always told me to finish the task I started, or at least clean up my effort. God doesn't leave things half done. He finishes what He starts. He has started to make you like His Son. He won't lose interest or give up. He will finish the seemingly impossible task.

In this prayer he was asking that God work into the Philippians' lives an increasing love. He asked that their love increase in knowledge and depth of insight. As we grow in the love of God, we gain the ability to discern not just the good but the best. That discernment is part of the work God is completing in us.

Much of our battle in life is not choosing between the good and the bad. As we mature, that becomes more and more obvious. The real battle becomes how effective our lives will be for the Kingdom of God. Will we choose the best over what is good? That is the dividing line that will determine our fruitfulness. It will also determine how closely we follow the Lord. Paul says the answer lies in an increase in agape love. Pray for God's love for your brothers and sisters, for the lost, and most of all, to love God with the kind of love with which He loves you. That is what will keep you from straying on the way to God finishing the work He started in you.

Prayer: Lord, please mature me so that I can discern the best, and help me follow through with that choice.

David, Bathsheba, and Uriah

1It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.

2Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. 3So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not [a]Bathsheba, the daughter of [b]Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” 4Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. 5And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”

6Then David sent to Joab, saying, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent Uriah to David. 7When Uriah had come to him, David asked how Joab was doing, and how the people were doing, and how the war prospered. 8And David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” So Uriah departed from the king’s house, and a gift of food from the king followed him. 9But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and did not go down to his house. 10So when they told David, saying, “Uriah did not go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Did you not come from a journey? Why did you not go down to your house?”

11And Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields. Shall I then go to my house to eat and drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.”

12Then David said to Uriah, “Wait here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next. 13Now when David called him, he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk. And at evening he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house.

14In the morning it happened that David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 15And he wrote in the letter, saying, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the [c]hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die.” 16So it was, while Joab besieged the city, that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew there were valiant men. 17Then the men of the city came out and fought with Joab. And some of the people of the servants of David fell; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

18Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war, 19and charged the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling the matters of the war to the king, 20if it happens that the king’s wrath rises, and he says to you: ‘Why did you approach so near to the city when you fought? Did you not know that they would shoot from the wall? 21Who struck Abimelech the son of [d]Jerubbesheth? Was it not a woman who cast a piece of a millstone on him from the wall, so that he died in Thebez? Why did you go near the wall?’—then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.’ ”

22So the messenger went, and came and told David all that Joab had sent by him. 23And the messenger said to David, “Surely the men prevailed against us and came out to us in the field; then we drove them back as far as the entrance of the gate. 24The archers shot from the wall at your servants; and some of the king’s servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.”

25Then David said to the messenger, “Thus you shall say to Joab: ‘Do not let this thing [e]displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Strengthen your attack against the city, and overthrow it.’ So encourage him.”

26When the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. 27And when her mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased[f] the Lord.

#DailyDevotion Are You Really Better In Your Walk With The LORD Than The Israelites? Psalm 106 6We have sinned like our fathers, doing wrong and wicked things. 7Our fathers in Egypt didn't understand Your wonders or remember how merciful You were; so they rebelled beside the sea, the Red Sea. 8Yet He saved them to honor His name, to let them know His power. 9He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; He led them through the floods as through a desert. 10So He saved them from the power of those who hated them, and freed them from the enemy. 11Water covered their enemies, and not one of them was left. 12Then they believed what He said and sang His praise. In Psalm 105 we have the rather rosy view of the LORD's salvation of Israel, how He called them to be His people and how He brought them to the Promised Land. Psalm 105 is a confession of sins by the psalmist of how Israel acted when the LORD saved them and will develop how they aren't any better. He starts off here of the stubborn and stiff-neckness of the Israelites just as He was delivering them. Right off the bat, the Israelites were rebellious but the LORD saved them for His own name's sake. How often are we rebellious like the Israelites and the LORD Jesus delivers us anyway because He put His name on us? 13But they soon forgot what He did and didn't wait for His advice. 14So they lusted in the wilderness and tested God in the desert. 15He gave them what they demanded but also sent a disease that made them waste away. Even after the LORD exhibited His power to the Israelites by destroying the Egyptian army in the Red Sea the Israelites quickly forgot about the LORD's goodness and they grumbled against Him. They did not cry out to Him for help with faith. They grumbled against Him in unbelief. God gave them what they thought would fill their lust for meat but also with a plague to discipline them. Do we often grumble against the LORD, lusting for things thinking the LORD is holding these things back from us? As James says, we don't get because we don't ask and when we do ask, it is out of selfish motivations to spend what we get on ourselves. If we ask the LORD for a fish won't He give us one or if we ask for an egg, will He not take care of us? Jesus tells us the Father cares for us and knows what we need. He gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. The Holy Spirit then intercedes for us in words too deep for comprehension. 16They were jealous of Moses in the camp and of Aaron, the LORD's holy one. 17The ground opened and swallowed Dathan and buried Abiram's group. 18Fire consumed their group; flames burned up the wicked. It's just one thing after another with the Israelites. I can relate. The LORD is good to me and then, poof !, I sin in disbelief. May we all repent quickly and turn to the LORD Jesus Christ for grace, mercy, forgiveness, steadfast love and peace. Here their sin was against the Holy Ministry the LORD provided for the Israelites. Do we get jealous of those in the Ministry? Do we rebel against his authority because we think we know better? Well maybe you do know better. But who called you to rebel against the one whom Jesus gifted to you? Your pastor is answerable to the LORD who will discipline him as he needs. Yes, the LORD often uses wicked, evil people to discipline His people. You don't be the wicked, evil person He uses. He also punishes those whom He uses to do the disciplining, because it was their evil hearts that is used. They deserve their punishment even before they do anything. It's already on their hearts. You be the one who prays for, vocally supports, and is the LORD's blessing to the pastor Jesus gifted you. Heavenly Father, so often we are like the Israelites who rebel against all Your goodness and kindness. Give us Your Holy Spirit so we may rightly ask You for all good things and give thanks and praise for them. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article
