Okay, so here's some more lore to keep you all busy while I will come up with my own variation of Twilight syndrome.

So after the war, the Japanese car industry was totaled after the war. The intense bombing of the cities had damaged and blown the factories to shreds. Once the two states had been established, It became very clear that in order to transport stuff in the event of war and in the event of peace, there needed to be cars.

South Japan had a head start, managing to create the Kurokowa interstate highway system in 1956. basically, it gave birth to new roads that could take you to Osaka and Tokyo through the countryside or areas that wouldn't be considered for driving.

Oddly enough, this was made in the same year the United States ( the ones who funded the project) passed the Federal-Aid -Highway Act of 1956, Which created the Interstate Highway system for America.

As for North Japan, they don't really have the best highways. Due to the poor design records of eastern bloc roads, they were mostly kept in industrial or rural parts of the North. Also, the cold climate of North Japan didn't help matters either.

As for cars, Since this is a 1960s-like world, I will bet that most cars of the late 1940s to 1960s would be common and mainstream in both sides of Japan as much as they are in the world. Toyoda and Honda, while still being strong in their own right, don't become mainstream.

While they are able to produce their own cars, The fact of it being divided and the world not being developed like our own lessens the weight. Thus the cars would be coming in from America, Britain, France, and West Germany of all places.

Companies such as Ford, Austin, Renault, And even the likes of Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, and Porsche are being hit in South Japan. As for how those cars from Europe come, They would be built in the factories that Renault and Volkswagen made in south Japan in the 50s. In other words, Beeltes would be a mainstream icon in South Japan.

The North also has its automobiles, through factories and exports from the Soviet Union. Car manufacturers like Gaz, Trabant, And Skoda are just a few examples of auto manufacturers in the North. Since Eastern bloc cars aren't renowned for their quality, They would get a car like the Trabant 601.

But the better and more common Skoda 1000mb and Gaz 21 Volga were there so the north japs didn't have to suffer as much. Ladas are also there, though, for the story, I had to push the mainstream production date from 1970 to 1969, only a year less. plus Gaz 24s were there in the 60s even though it was a 70s car so it wouldn't be a big of deal.
