my tips and strategy under the read more (now with more chip tips since i posted this the day before):

Low Hacks 8's Palette

Hacks (x3): 3 Lives total, Armor recovery 10 seconds, Risky Rewards (18 chips) Strategy: Focus on splash damage, splash radius, explosions, knockback, bombs, ect.

General tips:

Hard and rigorous levels are hard and rigorous. I died on a hard level my first time running 8s palette like a week or so ago and it was... humbling.

ALWAYS have an escape route. Ink the walls. Stay AWAY from corners. The walls of the level are okay but do NOT back yourself into a corner.

Get a bomb you WILL USE. My preferred bomb in the tower is burst bomb (takes little ink, good for inking right away), so I got that from a vending machine.

Splashdown special is good for both taking out enemies quickly and knocking enemies back. I recommend keeping it for the strat I used, unless using it is like your worst nightmare. Don't hinder yourself if that's the case, but it does work extremely well with this strategy.

Don't be afraid to run away from a hoard. Ink with tap shots if you must just to give yourself some ground, but don't be afraid to just book it.

While in the level, stay on the move. Don't take risks; take your time to do it safe and cautiously.

Keep an eye on your membux. It's 100 to skip 1-9, 500 to skip 11-19, 1000 to skip 21-29. I don't recommend skipping early levels unless the chips offered are bad.

Unless a chip you're hunting for/need for your run shows up, take the vending machine floors, even if you don't plan to buy anything.

Don't be afraid to give up and start over if the chips you've got from 1-9 aren't preferable to progress with.

Chip tips:

Knockback (purple chip) and Explosion Knockback (purple chip) are VERY HELPFUL. You want to keep enemies AWAY from you. Just one of either will be enough, two of either won't hurt but palette space is limited and you'll want other chips.

Working together with knockback, Lucky Bomb Drop (green) is also extremely helpful. Just one helped me a lot. Two was definitely worth it. I'd almost say this chip is required.

Working together with knockback and lucky bomb drop, Splash Radius (orange chip) affects bombs and popped portals. Try and get at least one, it'll help you with Smollusk.

Sticky Ink (purple chip)/Poison Ink (red chip) are both very good. One of each is good, but I don't recommend stocking up on them, unless you're having trouble hunting damage chips down. Stock up on whatever sticky and poison you can in that case.

For 8s palette, Main Damage (Close) (red chip) is much better than Main Damage (Distant) (red chip). I completely skipped the latter and did just fine with 3 main damage (close).

Try to get at least one Main Firing Speed (red chip), it'll save you a little bit of a headache and help damage enemies faster and ink turf faster. If you grab more than one, try to get any of the ink saver or ink recovery chips (purple chips)

Splash Damage (red chip) would have been helpful for me since I was focused on explosions for my run, but I didn't actually ever get any. However, if you're doing my strat, it definitely wouldn't hurt to nab a few of this chip.

Just one Main Ink Coverage (orange chip) will help you a lot, assuming you've got sticky/poison ink.

Give Pearl the Drone Splat Bomb (teal chip) so she can actually help you instead of floating around doing nothing. Don't worry about any other drone chips. Upgrading her bomb at least once won't hurt you, but it's not preferable.

Other chips that won't hurt you if you can't find the above chips:

Ink Damage (red chip) - actually not preferable for 8s palette, since it takes a large amount of them to actually show results. however, if it's the only damage chip you can find, get it

Special Charge Up (orange chip) - never hurts to stock up if you can't find damage chips

Hindrance Damage (orange chip) - if you've got more sticky ink and poison ink than other damage chips, this one will help you the most

Disc Piece Drop (green chip) - worth it to nab at least one

Canned Special Drop (green chip) - also worth it to nab at least one

Armor Drop (green chip) - definitely won't hurt to grab one if you need it

Splat Ink Recovery (purple chip) - always worth it

Ink Saver (Main) (purple chip) - extremely good for balancing against how fast your ink goes if you've got more than one main firing speed chip

Ink Saver (Sub) (purple chip) - SUPER HELPFUL if you're focusing on bombs

Ink-Recovery Rate - untold amounts of helpful

Mobile Ink Recovery (blue chip) - not preferable, but useful for a not so preferable run

Mobile Special Charge (blue chip) - same as above. this one doesn't hurt either

Squid Attack (blue chip) - only recommended if you're good at performing squid rolls

Main Piercing (orange chip) - not preferable, but useful

Ink Attack Size (orange chip) - not preferable, but useful

7) Garp (-100000/10)

Yeah, I don't even need to elaborate on this at all. Cause like... we all know how much Garp sucks. We all know how he valued his job and loyalty to the marines more than the actual safety of his family. How he says that he cares... but he truly doesn't do anything at all. AND THAT'S BARELY SCRATCHING THE SURFACE!!! Because in all of Luffy's childhood... I don't think there was a single moment where he was just... kind? Canonically at least. It was always launching your 3 year old in the jungle, in a ravine, in the fucking air tied to baloons just so you can fuck off and do what YOU want. It was awlays ignoring every single one of his dreams. And not only that because while thinking that a life as a pirate isn't ideal is fair, forcing your own phisosophies on your kid and forcefully msking them choose the carrer YOU want isn't. No wonder Dragon is the way he is! And he made Luffy's abbandonment issues WORSE by leaving him in another random place with other random people. And this is only the stuff we saw about Garp... we never saw a house where he lived in any flashback. Did Garp stay in the marine's headquarters? Did Luffy fucking sleep outside in the forest? Luffy looked so exited when Makino got him a shirt. Did Garp never get Luffy clothes? Did he just used random rags he had laying around? When Luffy only got a bowl of rice and a cup of water to eat he said that it was better than what Garp gave him. Did he fucking starve Luffy by making him hunt for all he ever ate since he was a fucking toddler? IS THAT WHY LUFFY IS HALF OF GARP'S SIZE???

But worst of all... he was never there! Not when he got kidnapped, not when they almost burned him alive, not when Ace died, and he never will.

Garp truly did not care enough. And that is what hurts the most.

I'm removing all of his ppint and shoving him into the void.

6) Shanks (6.5/10)

Okay so I'm a little conflicted about Shanks. He has many good things about him. He inspired Luffy and supported his dream, and has shown to be very caring and affectionate. He taught him that some fights are not worth it and that he shouldn't be too hung up on certain things. That's good. But he also indirectely caused him to commit self harm, took a crying bleeding 7 year old in a bar full of alchool, lied to him about what happenned to his best friend, and then he just... dissappeared. I don't fully blame him since he isn't Luffy's primary caretaker, that was GARP and Shanks is already infinitely better since he supported his dream. But Shanks does have this theme where he is bad at communication and doesn't fully commit to certain things. We saw it with Buggy. But hey, at least he gave Luffy that really good advice that its okay to cry but you have to move on. Expect that he never said it directely to his face (or out loud for what matters) and he was only at marineford for 30 seconds.

I'm removing one ppint for him being an idiot, another for abbandonment, and another and a half points for general flaws.

5) Dragon (7/10)

I think people tend to be a bit too hard on Dragon. He was starting a revolution, of course he couldn't have taken care of him for his own safety. And he sadly had no other choice so sadly GARP raised Luffy. I can't rate him any higher tho because we just never really saw him parent Luffy... apart from that one time when he saved him, but then he dissappeared. Still can't believe he raised Sabo instead of him honestly.

I'll remove one point for abbandonment, another point for giving him to his father and a last one for bad eyebrows and bigass forehead genes.

4) Crocodile (adding him because I said so) (7.5/10)

All things considered, Croc didn't exatcly have the best starting point. (He arguably had the worst) But he was 100% one of the most helpful people to Luffy during marineford.

Not only did he save Ace despide hating Whitebeard, but he also blocked Doflamingo's attack and helped him break out. HE WAS MORE HELPFUL THAT GARP GODDAMMIT!!! So maybe Croc's heart isn't exatcly in the right place... but he seems to do much better now.

I'm removing one point for abbandonment and one and a half points for almost killing him.

3) Franky (8.5/10)

Much like croc, Franky didn't have the best start with Luffy, and we don't really see much of just the two of them since he is closer with Usopp, but the few scenes they have togheter paint a pretty good picture. Firstly both Luffy and Franky share an interents in stuff like beams and robots, and Franky is willing to show off for him so in return Luffy does admire this side of him. Franky also tries to avoid toxic masculinity, and never forces Luffy into anything while supporting him unlike GARP. In Dressrosa Franky really looked after and accompanied Luffy to assist him in retrieving Ace's fruit, which Franky understands was very hard for him. He is rensponsable and doesn't let Luffy do anything stupid (like revealing his name) and later that arc there's that one super cute scene where Luffy is just sleeping and Franky is there looking at him while smiling/crying and...

Look at him!!! He's so dad material!!!

Removing one point for hurting Usopp and half a point for mildly enabaling him.

2) Rayleigh (9/10)

Like many others, Rayleigh was also very helpful during the summit war saga, specifically the post war arc. He was with Luffy during his worst time and helped him get through them. Not only that, but he also trained him. Execpt that unlike GARP who would just launch Luffy into a ravine and exept him to get out by himself so he can leave and fuck off where he wants, Rayleigh stuck around and not only gave him useful advice and lessons, but also prevented him from doing things that would have hurt his body like using to much haki. It didn't work but still, he mastered the art of being hard but still very much caring and being present. Plus it was so heart warming seeing him helping Luffy and how much he reminds him of Roger.... Uncle Rayray I love you!!! Give me your wife!!!

Removing one point for... lack of screentime? I guess, I'm not sure.

1) Jimbei (15/10)

We all know that fishdad is the best period, but I really wanna analize him. Jimbei was possibly the one who helped Luffy the most when he came to... everything? I mean he saved him from Akainu, stood by his side when he was still unconscious from his operation, stopped him from committing self harm or worse, comforted him trough his grief and tears, gave him his blood thus saving his life and showing just how much he loved him, offrred to guide him in accomplishing his dream, came back each and every time he was needed, because Luffy needs somebody like him that can ground him and make him reflect but also respect and love him, he believed in Luffy so much to go againsts a Yonko TWICE, and one of these times it was literally a face to face with the scariest person on Earth.

But the best part? Jimbei truly cares about all the young. The new generation that should be hate free and happy. The new generation he fought for multiple times. He knows Luffy can be a major figure in that, but he also just cares for him. He loves Luffy. Unconditionally. I know I may be repeating myself but he is 100% what Luffy needed when he needed it. And I will not shut up about this. Ever.

hmmm okay one of my big thoughts for my standere au is that stan, despite his whole yandere thing, isn't killing people. but. i do really want him to.

he's not just a regular, everyday serial killer, right? he rarely kills anyone. his obsession is ford, and, for most of his life, he hasn't been anywhere NEAR him! why'd he just go around killing random people?

but. there are. exceptions.

unrelated to ford, but stan did end up having to kill at least one person while homeless. this is important bc it makes stan feel less bad about killing people while also knowing how to do it LOL

unlike in canon, stan figures out who f is pretty quickly. how couldn't he? his obsession with ford necessitates he figures it out. plus, ford's drawn him. sure, old man mcgucket doesn't look anything like sane fiddleford, but at this point in time i'm picturing mcgucket looking much older and clearly disheveled, but still looking like mcgucket. why, it's inevitable with his obsessive searching that he'd find him. mcgucket doesn't remember ford at this point. but he once did. and stan doesn't know how well this whole "induced memory loss" thing works. what if ford comes back, and fiddleford remembers, and they spend time together, leaving stan in the dust? what if ford returns, finds out about fiddleford's state, and spends a bunch of time focusing on HIM instead??? so he could fix him??????? stan can't allow THAT to possibly happen, ever.

unsure if this is fandom osmosis wildly overstating ford and preston's beef (i have heard there's like. a single incident in journal 3. but man the fandom seems to be running with it so either we're just making shit up OR i just suck at googling) but: if ford and preston had beef stan is 100% murdering him. it'd definitely be risky since preston is rich and powerful but. stan don't care. as long as he's smart about it, he's not getting caught.

this is a real moral event horizon, but: gideon. he is 100% murdering that CHILD. who is like. NINE YEARS OLD. right away, gideon trying to take the shack pretty much means he's trying to take ford away, since that's where all the portal shit is. but also: stan is on the HUNT for those 2 other journals. more than ANYTHING. gideon's attempts to get stan would already be enough, BUT IF HE FINDS OUT THAT GIDEON HAS THE SECOND JOURNAL? yeah. goodbye.

also, if he's killing gideon, he's killing the rest of the gleefuls. he's a bit nicer to mrs. gleeful, since she was kinda trapped in the situation, but BUD? oh, man, bud will NOT be having a good time. guy's an accomplice. and a grown-ass man.

if we're accepting child murder, i wouldn't be surprised if he killed pacifica. pacifica reminds him of crampelter, the sibling brothers -- really, any bully that's ever hurt ford. especially due to pacifica's mockery of "freaks".

he has a real internal conflict when he finds out he has the third journal, but he loves the kid and he DID give him the journal so he can just photocopy it. plus, he reminds him a lot of ford.

the internal conflict returns when dipper starts to get along with ford. maybe that's the point where stan actually kidnaps him -- he's not MURDERING HIS GREAT NEPHEW, are you INSANE, but he IS totally fine with keeping ford locked in a room for most of the day while handwaving dipper's concerns as just "ford being a shut-in nerd doing shut-in nerd stuff". bonus points that it makes dipper feel like ford doesn't really like him, because dipper can't find the room he's in, but he's not in the basement, so he's probably doing some Important Science Stuff and just doesn't think dipper's worth bringing along!

But one sighting of Crosshair and they're all grumbling and that's what throws them in the "we can't pull this off mentality" and I interpret that as coming from the continuing theme of the Batch being so proud of each other's skills and enhancements, they're so in awe of each other, and the only thing that could ever give them a challenge is one of them. He may be their enemy right now, but they still believe in Crosshair's skillset so much that just him makes them decide to abandon the mission

Hello CIG! For a very belated Nice Ask Week ask, I have a non-conventional question for you.

You've spoken before about having to remove quite a bit from Where All This Love Comes From (I believe you said it might have been something like 20k words, again WOW) and I was wondering, do you do anything with that writing?

Do you save it for a different story? Do you take a second to mourn what might have been? Do you try to re-imagine things so you can put them in a different scene than originally planned?

I'm AWFUL at having to delete things (I deleted something that was only 100 words yesterday and it still made me want to pull my hair out) so I'm intrigued by how you go about it, if you don't mind :)

Hello! ❤️ Thank you for the belated! The 20k loss was all to do with Gabriel being alive after the wedding - it also featured two original characters (one OC I kept but highly reduced their role; one I removed completely from the story). I didn't fully delete any of it - it's all in a separate document - so I may well re-home the writing depending on what I come up with for future fics. There were a few particular scenes that I was super sad to let go of - it would be great to find a story for them.

Before Gabriel was killed, I'd written about 60k, so salvaged 40k and reworked it into the fic as it is now, which has a totally different plot. (I did mourn. It hurt! I felt blue about it for days before I came up with the new idea.) The key was to change the context where possible, and sometimes I couldn't. An example of change is the fall festival moment, in which Gabriel confronts Carlos. Originally that confrontation involved Carlos doing something else "wrong" in Gabriel's eyes, and it happened post-wedding rather than in 2022 (the flashbacks were at a minimum originally!) But the description of the fall festival is from the original. The flashback in chapter 3 that involves TK, his parents and trouble in school was also from the original, but TK's reasons for telling Carlos about that memory were different.

I didn't have any desire to delete the 20k as if it had never existed, because I think the writing is good and he ideas still interest me. I would only delete writing I thought was truly bad and wouldn't work at all ever. For the most part I think it's worth keeping what you can - eg. you never know if a paragraph that seems awkward in a fluffy romantic fic might fit way better in a fic with a dramatic plot.

Like all territorial encroachments in Mystery Dungeon, everyone just jumps right into the fray without listening to anyone 🙄

Honestly, all of Team Frontier was pretty based. Jolteon had an ability that allowed him to attack twice in a row (I think because the weather was different?) and he consistently used X-Scissor. Nidoran F had Sesimic Toss (55 damage) and Ice Beam. Deoxys had Attack Order, Seed Flare, Rock Wrecker(!), and Swift, the last hitting for 120 damage on a critical. Combined with Teresa's Chatter (when we finally got there, because you start off a ways from everyone), they didn't stay up for much longer.

Also Jolteon shielded me when Teresa got low on HP 🥺️

Hello, m'lady!

If you don't mind, here are some incoherent thoughts about some of the Bois that came to my mind after reading around in your brilliant writing. You said you wouldn't mind my incoherent thoughts, so I thought I'd share them! (I'm still working on my incoherent Bad Batch thoughts, btw)

I want to hug Jesse. Like, he's hot as hell no questions asked, but I also just want to hug him. Like, a long hug. And tell him that he's loved and that he's enough and wonderful exactly as he is.

Also, I want to cook for all the clones, but these vibes are the strongest with Wrecker, and, for some reason, Hardcase and Fives.

Also, my ideal date is going to one of those public strawberry picking fields where you can just... walk around and fill your basket with strawberries, and afterwards go home and bake strawberry cake, and I'm going to drop that in this context.

Also I find it so interesting how non-commitical Rex actually is; like, who would've guessed that a guy with such a spit-death-in-the-face attitude on the battlefield would be so scared to let someone into his heart.

After collecting more side quests and items that seemed like side quests but weren't I finished Ikana Castle and moved on to Stone Tower

There's no place for me to progress though, not even using the bunny mask for longer jumps. On the third floor I'm just stuck, I can reach only two platforms neither of which have any buttons or anything to interact with except for one hookshot pillar used to traverse between said platforms. It clearly is the only place to progress though, as the game had the rare instance of directly stating where to progress. And like, you generally being locked out of story relevant areas completely unless you have the tools to advance, and I don't think there be another tool I need other than the song.

What would suck is if I need to call back the plaforms I used to reach the third floor in a specific order in order to build a bridge to the fourth floor

The reason this would suck is that no matter where you fall from on the first or second floor you get send back to the entrance, but now I did get send back to the third floor after being knocked off the hookshot pillar (by something I couldn't see, but I was standing on top of it and all enemies are generally out of reach? There's only a few bats that don't even spot you), so I'd assume that I can always continue on from floor 3. Unless it wants me to manually go back to floor 1, as I can't reach floor 2 from 3.

Unrelated, but I do have sidequests left over that I'm 100% aware of. They have the usual problem of unclear objectives huge time waste by waiting or both. There's a lot of redoing in this, some of which is sped up, but I thought the appeal of this game was resetting cycles and doing things differently to achieve different things.

Not redoing the same things in the same way, with it not even speeding up and getting repetitive/boring (especially since most "challenges" are just annoying, in the sonic locking the player out of having control way, and don't provide any meaningful challenge to interact with in a way that can really be practiced. Everything that can be practiced is boringly trivial once you figure out how the mechanics work, if it wasn't spelled out to you), a number of times only to then time skip/wait and do one or two things before resetting and redoing again.

Sure at some point you have done everything and there's not that many things you need to redo any given thing for but in fact it's really annoying. Like at least make rechallenging the bosses worth something and keep the swamp healthy, the mountain thawed (you'd still get a reward upon replaying if you finish the temple quickly and gain the gold dust, since you don't need the sword for the dungeon), etc etc.

Shit like making me recollect the Zora Eggs because I didn't want to recollect the fairies is garbage btw, but at least more understandable. Now I just wish I had done the band side quest before the dungeon as the new wave bossa nova is permanent at least. What pains me still is that this is a remake and they fixed none of the errors of the first version, the quality of life changes that do exist hurt the immersion more than anything I have listed in this post of my big thread imo.

They were lazy quality of life changes too, bare minimum effort. But this is the way of this company, remakes as nintended. Money good, putting effort for money bad.

It's even more shocking as good remakes are 100% possible (ie a link between worlds), and what I'm asking is in the realm of a remaster. This is a remaster, I shouldn't have been calling it a remake my bad.

Anyways: tears of the kingdom is just a breath of the wild remaster and neither game is particularly good, botw is excusable as an interesting experiment that had good ideas with often poor execution. No one but Nintendo fans was impressed by this open world title, and no one should have been. Totk is an insult and should make it clear that botw wasn't bad because of lack of experience or anything but because of a lack of effort and care. The same bad designs got repeated uncritically even in the face of criticism, the reasons why botw was popular and sold well weren't examined and no growth took place, no improvements were made.

I'm kind of nervous today,

I haven't been to church in 3 weeks and I'm attending today.

I've been terribly sick and in 3 weeks

I got deathly sick,

my friend stopped talking to me,

the one church lady who drives me to church is mad at me,

The last 3 weeks have been horrible and I just haven't had the energy to do anything.

I'm concerned I'm not going to get a ride home, I'm worried because I'm not being told what's going on and I'm worried because 6:30am - 9:00am goes faster than you think when you're not looking at the time.

I will have my bath, get dressed and sit here drinking my coffee waiting.

I'm thankful I can go today and I'm happy I had enough energy to read my Bible today as I've been really lacking in that department.

I feel so out of sorts, so disconnected from everyone and everything, I want to hide yet I want to be seen.

When I'm seen I'm hurt and when I'm hidden the only one who hurts me is me.

It's still not right either way though.

I'm concerned I'm going to have to answer tons of questions, my chest congestion still isn't 100% cleared up so I'm still coughing although I do feel better.

I can't be over exerting myself though...

It was nice to have time to myself though these 3 weeks, a lot of bad stuff happened but good stuff happened too.

I got a lot accomplished in this time I think even struggling through this storm and even through long break periods, I still accomplished something and it's a pretty decent sized list I think.

I just hate how others make me feel less than, like what I do is unimportant and what they do is everything.

Just because I stay at home and clean, write and give things away/sell things all day doesn't mean I'm not doing anything.

On Highlander

I finally saw the first Highlander movie. I don't know why I had never seen it before. I saw II (ew) and The Source (double-ew), and a lot of the first TV show (mostly yay).

I'm not going to do a full review, because we are nerds and we all know it's a good movie. But I'll say this about it - for a movie from a first-time feature director, from a screenplay written by a guy who was still in film school, starring an effectively-blind man who barely spoke English at the time, it is way better than it has any right to be. It is rough and uneven and the dialogue is bad and the fight scenes are always two men frantically cracking aluminum baseball bats against each-other until one's hands hurt and he drops his. But all that said, it is a good fantasy movie, especially for 1986.

I think generally it has a reputation that is a little overrated, and people who stan this movie apparently fill in a lot of plot holes in their heads to make it work and aren't aware they are doing that. But it is still fun and pretty good in general as an old skool action movie about lightning vampires having sword fights for no good reason.

...The ending sucks, though, and is directly responsible for everything that is bad about Highlander II. I know this because I've watched it

"WHAT ABOUT THE RENEGADE CUT?!"

and about half of "The Renegade Cut," before the self-indulgent, completely senseless "Watch a director make a point to people who do not care at all!" shit got unbearable.

Adding slight less bad mid-90s visual effects and removing all the Zeist crap does exactly nothing to fix a plot that is 100% in service to no one having any goddamn idea what to do with this franchise after Conner wins The Prize. The Prize only exists as an undefined Macguffin that keeps these desperate people motivated, on the off-chance it frees them from this obvious curse. Whatever you officially make it, that is automatically stupid and lame and not worth it. That's the nature of the whole concept, and the bad ending of the first movie proves it.

Which is why, according to Wikipedia, the original screenplay NEVER DEALT WITH THAT. It apparently ended with Conner killing the Kurgan and then immediately "feeling" the presence of yet another Immortal they didn't know about. The Game goes on. There will NEVER be only one. It's a metaphor for the "curse" that is life, you keep going on the basis that you exist to achieve something, but you will probably never find out what that is before you die, all your plans and actions rendered fruitless. And that's really good.

But that isn't a happy ending, so...you can have kids now? And sort of read minds? Maybe? Of everyone? Which means...things?

Maybe you can build a giant shield around the Earth? I don't know. They're from Space. Whatever.

See the problem?

Also the Wikipedia article says Clancy Brown (and the original screenplay) saw the Kurgan as more of a stoic, world-weary villain, more one of circumstance than psychopathy. Clancy wanted to wear a suit and a bowler hat. That also sounds really good. Obviously him being nuts is one of the best parts of the first movie, just like Michael Ironside being nuts is one of the only good parts of the second. But is it dramatically compelling? The most profound part of the first one is when Conner finds out what the Kurgan did to Heather. The movie does that tactfully and earns the payoff. That was something that could also 100% work in a version where the Kurgan is just another Immortal who is dealing with his curse by taking a darker path than Conner does (hence why Conner is the protagonist).

But it is what it is. The first one is good, II is technically a well-made movie but is a fascinating disaster in any cut, and I didn't see 3 because I'm not paying $4 to rent what I hear is another not-good Highlander movie.

...Also, Ramirez probably would have lived a lot longer if he'd actually used that katana like a katana and not like a broadsword. But I guess no one in 1985 was going to tell Sean Connery to take two weeks of kendo lessons.

And a last word on the stupid Renegade Cut. How the hell did changing it from "alien planet" to "anachronistic Bronze Age, with time-wizards" solve a single problem with this childish nonsense? They still have amnesia for no given reason, they still go by the names we know neither one of them used until just before they met, Katana still shouldn't be drunkenly making sarcastic references to 20th Century things he wouldn't know anything about, even if it's fun (and it is; Michael Ironside is a Canadian treasure). It is all still such impossible anti-sense that not even the most adventurous writer of professional wrestling storylines could glue the pieces together into something that makes these railing kills emotionally impactful. There are a thousand possible fantasy stories that Highlander II could have used to try and explain why the hell people who are immune to bullets shoot lightning when you cut their heads off, and they picked "-B *fart noise*". You can't redeem that with editing.

And again, no one should have tried to explain it in the first place. That's not the point. Explaining any of this should never, ever be the point.

It’s been a long time since I posted here. Mostly because I’ve felt hopeless & didn’t find any benefit in sharing the same old shit.A lot has happened. My psych decided about 2 months ago, maybe a bit more that she couldn’t help me any more & didn’t feel like she could ‘be objective anymore’. Still not 100% sure what that was suppose to mean, if she hated me or cared too much or what. But she did say she was feeling my stuckness. What was most frustrating & upsetting was that she wasn’t going to wait til I was settled with a new psych to finish. She wanted me gone within 4 sessions.

The week prior to her announcing this we had been back in contact with someone who is more experienced with DID/OSDD & I went back on her wait list. I’m still waiting, I think I have 2-3 weeks wait left. She said at the time that she would likely have availability within 3 months.

In the mean time I’ve started with a counsellor at a clinic that specialises in EMDR & trauma. The lady I’m seeing has an interest in neurodiversity, so that’s been helpful. I wasn’t the biggest fan of this person to begin with. Our appointments felt scattered & it was a huge blow when I found out she only had level one EMDR training. For reference my previous psych had done level 1 & 2, structural dissociation plus others. I do not trust this clinics reception staff to actually understand or correctly convey the skills of their therapists because this is not the first time they’ve mislead us. But anyways. It seems to have kind of worked out. I think I like this new person. She’s promised she won’t give up on me. Trying not to hold too much hope in that. She’s in the right place to learn a lot, the owner of the clinic does a lot of training on both EMDR & parts. Her supervisor is also very experienced with DID & that person has a close contact with a lot of experience too. So there’s some hope that she could help. The neurodivergent stuff is useful too. But I’m also not sure if it’s worth staying in the hope that she can help, or if it’s better to move on to the more experienced person because that’s more likely to be helpful. There’s the toss up of experience vs. relationship. I guess I’ll see if I find the more experienced person to be a good fit relationship wise. I don’t know what I’m going to do if I like both of them. Eeep.

We’re already experiencing resistance to doing EMDR though. Struggling to access memories & the wall fragment comes up to block access to any inner thoughts, feelings, memories, any access to anyone else. It’s frustrating & annoying & overwhelming. Young parts are also crying a lot. They’re confused about the upheaval, the opening up to someone new & we’ve been experiencing flashback quite a bit. It’s been awful. I’m torn between letting them open up about trauma or not with this new person, ultimately is doesn’t help & the littles forget that we’ve told someone about it. But I also feel like maybe it will quiet them down for a bit. It’s probably helpful for the counsellor to know a bit more.

We’re mostly writing all of this because the counsellor is away this week & it’s hard. It feels like the last little while has been a lot of just holding on as hard we can, while hurting so incredibly much. It’s the second week in the almost 2 months I’ve been working with her that she’s been away. As well as unstable appointments, one time it was a Monday one week & the following Friday which made the gap longer than when she actually was away. I struggle without the regular support & I was just starting to feel a bit more settled. Anyways. Will update if or when there’s something worth saying. Good or bad.

Are prong collars cruel? I would never use one on my dog but has seen people saying they helped with their dog training...

Depends on the person you ask. This can turn into a heated debate with many dog people. Personally I feel that using punishment as training tools such as shock collars or prong collars is barbaric and out dated, and dogs respond so much better to positive reinforcement training.

Most people are using them under the idea that the prongs will stop the dog from pulling on their walks or give them better control over the dog. The biggest problem is that 90% of the time, they arent using them for their intended purpose. Prong collars are meant to be correctional - meaning they are only really in use when correcting a behaviour. They are NOT supposed to be left on unless you are training or on a walk, and they are definitely not supposed to be pulled on. These collars are designed to provide 'even pressure all the way around the neck' and many people claim it doesn't hurt the dog. It does. Put one around your arm or leg and pull on it - they're still pointy and they still hurt.

The issue with this kind of reinforcement is that it does NOT teach the animal to do the proper behaviour. What it does is teach the animal to avoid the wrong behaviour so they dont get hurt. Shock collars, prong collars, spray bottles on cats - its all the same. They often revert back to doing the bad behaviours like pulling on the leash as soon as the collar is off. Cats that know you will spray them with water if they jump onto the counter will wait until you aren't around and still jump up. Dogs that know the shock collar hurts when they bark will wait until its off, and then bark again.

Positive reinforcement training is the best thing out there. It teaches your pet to do behaviours because they want to do them, and because they know they will get a reward. Its much easier to train your dog that if they focus on you on their walks, they get treats, rather than try to force them not to pull by using pain and pressure on their neck. Its similar to spanking children - its painful and they dont learn anything from it except that if you arent around (or in this case if the collar isnt on) then their behaviour doesn't get punished.

When I was in tech school, we got all of the SPCA dogs to work on. Part of our AHT course was dog training - we had to use clickers and positive reinforcement to teach good behaviours. Most SPCA dogs are badly behaved, which is often why they are surrendered. Every single dog that went through that program learned to 1. Not jump on people. 2. Walk nicely without pulling. And 3. Not bark at kennel doors.

Wanna know the trick to teaching a dog not to pull on their walks? As soon as they pull, stop in your tracks. Dont yank them back, dont drag them off. Just stop. Once the dog relaxes and looks at you, give them a click and a treat and then continue on your walk. This teaches them that 1. Pulling means the walk stops and so 2. If I dont pull, I get treats, and we still get to walk. We did the same thing with teaching dogs not to bark and jump at kennel doors. If they are being loud and jumpy, turn your back on them and do not acknowledge it. The second they quiet down, turn and give them a treat. Only give them your attention when they are quiet. This teaches them that 1. If I'm quiet my person gives me love and 2. The faster I get quiet, the faster we get to do fun things. Never had to use a shock collar to stop barking. Never had to use a prong collar to stop pulling. And we had over 100 dogs go through the school in the course of two years.

I get so many people come into the clinic saying that their dog doesn't behave unless their collar is on, or they have to keep the shock collars on 'as a reminder'. Thats not a well trained dog. Thats a dog that has learned to fear punishment for its behaviour. And that, in my opinion, is cruel.

Also worth mentioning that prong collars are absolutely useless in a clinic setting. They provide no restraint, it hurts my hand to hold onto them, and I cant hold the dog without hurting it. Do not use a prong collar to take your dog to the vet. Just train your dog to walk on a leash nicely. It will be so much easier.

Did your nipple piercings hurt? I've been semi-considering getting mine done but after my reduction my nipples have been a lot more responsive and I'm worried about the pain.

I also got increased sensitivity after surgery and I didn’t think it was too bad, but I got them pierced 3.5 years after surgery, so I’m sure that helped. it literally takes like 10 seconds, you have the actual piercing and then when they put in the jewelry, which hurts more, and the second piercing is worse, but overall I didn’t think it was that bad. the pain is short and it was 100% worth it. my boobs have been through worse <3 healing wasn’t that bad either, it hurt the worst during the first day, and after that it was fine. I got my tongue pierced and honestly that was worse

if the sensitivity you already have bothers you or is painful, you should probably know that for me the piercings made me more sensitive (not in a painful way, not even in a bad way to me LMAO) and i’m not sure if that’s permanent or not because it’s only been two months. I asked my piercer and she said it’s usually fine to get them pierced after surgery, but if you do it i’d recommend asking because that might depend on how long it’s been since surgery like I imagine the answer might be different if it’s been less than a year.
