#1. madara is not a parent

Sakura just found out that Naruto and Sasuke have never watched Disney movies before. She puts on Tarzan, then immediately realizes her mistake when his parents are murdered right off the bat. Naruto is crying because his parents are dead. Sasuke is uncomfortable because his parents are dead. Sakura is freaking out because she can't think of any movies with two alive parents.
Sakura is road rage lol. "Are you fucking kidding me? There were FOUR signs saying that lane was going to end, asshole!" The rest of team seven is hanging on for dear life as she slams the gas and flips off the other driver when she passes.
After being forced into therapy as part of his plea deal, Sasuke was encouraged to keep a feelings journal. Yeah, yeah, okay, whatever. Every night, he plops down at his desk, takes out his black notebook, picks up the frilly pink pen Sakura left at his house a few months ago, and scribbles down different aspects of his day. The ink is pink and glittery, a sharp contrast to his dark and brooding personality, but he can't find it in himself to use any other writing utensil.
Kakashi is a simple man. When technology started to boom, he was with it for all of ten seconds before he was overwhelmed. He has a computer in front of him and three nerds around him trying to coax him through email, but all he's thinking about is the good ol' days of paper and ink.
Shikamaru is the hidden leaf village's secret weapon. He's proved time and time again that no one even comes close to his mental prowess... but that doesn't mean he isn't human. On more than a few occasions, he's spent an embarrassing amount of time using the wrong key to unlock doors. He misspells and forgets words often. He generally lacks common sense because he overthinks things so hard. A side effect of your brain always being at 100, is that it struggles with 1-99.
Hashirama dared Madara to eat a weed once and Tobirama took that as a challenge. Mysterious plants, strange animals, random shit he finds in the woods or at the market- you name it and Tobirama is daring Madara to eat it. "Guess you aren't brave enough-" doesn't even finish his sentence before the Uchiha has completely consumed it and licked his fingers clean.

I kind of ended up w a small pile of Hatake ocs and lore to fill the early konoha timeline void, and a big thing is like. They all die to preserve the narrative. A lot of them very young bc again, made to fill the time line, so logically, there had to be some Hatake kids/teenagers who met an unfortunate end.
So I'm kinda sitting here considering a 4 part fic where each chapter revolves around a specific Hatake and their inevitable death, w maybe a bonus chapter at the end being about Sakumo
"Death of the Wolves," the unfortunate end of the Hatake's, told in 4 parts
The Hatake's helped set the Konoha standard rule of "a team can only be made up of so many % of one clan" (with special exceptions) after a large chunk of them got sent on a mission together bc of their specializations and all wound up dead, wiping out a solid 90% of the clan in one night.
Actually, expanding on that bc the tragedy is so good -> I already established that in my time line, the Hatake head, Haruka (Sakumo's mother, Tobirama and Hashirama's aunt) died under a week after Tobirama's death, and she would have lead that failed mission. Does that mean one of Hiruzen's first acts as war time Hokage resulted in the accidental slaughter of his beloved dead Sensei's mother's clan? That's amazing actually, so much drama there. I bet him Danzo and Kagami argued like crazy after that monumental fuck up, probably went on to define how he feels ab being Hokage / what that entails. Fun times!
Anyways, I'd also be very interested in exploring early konoha politics n stuff. Especially from the multiple views of not the people in charge of making the village but the ones who are living in it. The view from the ground up, instead of looking down from the tower. The younger generations being brought to this new village, going from their isolated clan lands to suddenly being surrounded by others their age from different clans, possible for the first time ever depending on their age and their clans level of secrecy.
Also, I really wanna poke at the outsider pov of Madara and other founders— but mostly Madara bc I find his downfall very fun to think about, especially from the POV of someone not in his clan.
I'm so in love w the take of the Hatake's being fond of Madara bc "he'd make a very good Hatake." Something about the two tropes of the Uchiha being a clan that loves love and the Hatake being a clan w similar values when it comes to family and loyalty just meshes so well.
Comedy moment where Haruka is weirdly insistent on Madara potentially marrying into the clan, not even for the politics or anything but specifically bc she NEEDS a cute squishy Hatake baby with his massive hair. She NEEDS IT, MADARA.
Anyways also just the early konoha inter clan drama but like. From the eyes of the clan kids. The Uchiha kids seem to be having some sort of terf war with the Senju— but it was interrupted by the Hyuuga, and now the Senju and Uchiha kids are somehow banding together against the Hyuuga? But oh no now the Nara kids are teaming up w the Hyuuga, and the Hatake kid (singular bc there's literally only like 1) seems to have an actual blood feud going on with the Hyuuga clan heir— but the older Hatake teenagers are fond of the Hyuuga's baby clan heir so it's just a mess. All the clan drama but with none of the tragedy bc everyone involved is a child.
Meanwhile the older clan members are somehow bonding over their children's fights bc they're all struggling to pull them away, or going "what the fuck do you mean you teamed up with the SENJU??" Then sharing a disbelieving Look(tm) w the opposing Senju's parents before realizing what they just did and having a crisis of faith ab it
Meanwhile the teenagers are having a wonderful time, especially those from smaller more isolated clans like the Hatake. There's so much romantic drama, there's probably a whole shinobi soap opera happening in that direction. Hormonal shinobi teenagers from opposing clans just got dropped into the same dating pool it's gonna be a MESSSS.
Even funnier if you take crumbs from my senju weed empire au and like. Some of these clans regularly smoke n stuff. Meanwhile other clans have never touched a psychedelic in their life. Some are especially vulnerable to drugs due to heightened senses (Orochi, Inuzuka, Hatake) while others have been smoking since they were younger and have an insane tolerance and very much distorted views of a reasonable amount of weed to smoke (Senju, Nara, Shiranui) There is no way in hell that goes well. Someone is going to get fucked up in a MAJOR way.
Well-intentioned Nara accidentally gets a bunch of dog wired guys and one snake high out of their fucking minds, the high lasts a full week for some of them and one sometimes wonders if they ever really came down from it
Anyways I got a bit off track but yeah! Early Konoha fic that revolves around the daily lives of differently aged Hatake ocs, taking a look from different angles of Konoha and all the silly clan drama and daily lives of an early Konoha shinobi— each chapter being different degrees of generally lighthearted, but ending in the Hatake's death. The fact that each Hatake is in with a different crowd and is a different age would make it even more fun and easier to explore the different layers Konoha has to offer! It's for sure on my list of things I wanna write
(Also I'd really love to have it just so I can point to it as a good introduction for my Hatake ocs. I love tricking people into learning ab my ocs it's great)
#my current favorite of the hatake ocs to think ab is the twins I originally tossed in as a throw away line in ome step three steps#Ive mapped out a lot for them actually#They're besties w a Nara and the trio of them are like little lackeys to the Hyuuga heir#but like. Only bc its funny.#The Hyuuga heir is like half their height and only 2 quarters their age and they think it's hilarious to go#“Yes boss of course boss u know I love u more than anyone (including my clan) boss 🥺”#“Uncooth Hatake dogs” “woof <3”#the hyuuga heir is also the one w mad beef with Ichigo#and also they get to die young too bc I dont like making ocs that actually alter canon#i prefer making ocs that just fill the void and leave everything canon compliant#so the heir gets to die like a week before theyre supposed to become clan head#and their younger sibling takes the cake instead and is left with MAJOR complexes bc of it <3#oh also the Hatake twins Nara bestie dies with them#its very fun I promise#The Nara's last words are smthn alomg the lines of “I always knew you lunatics would get me killed” (affectionatley)#then they do a suicide run or smthn and fight to their lasy breaths yayyy drama#birds fic talk#hatake ocs#hatake oc#hatake clan lore#hatake clan#hatake#naruto#hatake sakumo#uchiha madara#hatake lore#naruto founders#konoha founders#konoha#naruto au

Naruto Modern AU/Hollywood pt.1 - The Uchiha Family & Sasuke.
All types of reasons have led certain people to the level/status of celebrity. We will explore it in this Modern AU of Naruto. Oh yes, starting a new project (regardless of all the stuff in the drafts) as a means to share my lore and practice digital art.
They are your typical influential family/lineage/clan in the world of celebrity-dom and Hollywood. Taking their root foundation in Madara Uchiha who made a lot of money exploiting the land’s abundant minerals along with Hashirama Senju when they created Konoha. He built the foundation block of the Country’s central bank and police department. Yes, Madara lost most of his wealth through the years to the sin of gambling and failed business ventures. To this point of being a historical comedic fact of the past, his descendant Fugaku Uchiha had to rebrand and start with a "fresh foot" in a different industry; Technology & Scientific Lobbying/Investing. Along with ownership in the industrial prison complex but he’s not telling you the second part.
Finances magazine "The Ryô Treasury" loves to paint Fugaku as a self-made businessman who worked hard and won the investment lottery. These types of publications love to omit to the public the fact that anyone in the Uchiha clan born after Madara is technically a trust fund kid/nepo baby. Fugaku included since like most of his close and distant relatives were born into the higher class regardless of the money Madara lost throughout the years.
Many historians and the media do their best to conceal the depth of the influence Madara had on the country of fire and cover it up with the "billionaire gone broke" narrative because he had controversial political and social views that led to his fall apart from Hashirama Senju centuries ago.
Many industries go to the higher clans like the Hyuuga, Uchiha, Aburame & Senju for funding since they own a lot of the country’s resources and various entities. It’s hard to tell because it is well concealed on purpose like how the cheap wine you buy at the grocery store comes from a vineyard owned by a Senju who operates under a different surname.
With all that status and money, Fugaku married Mikoto (from an unknown background) and created the main and most popular unit of his clan with his two sons: Itachi and Sasuke.
Let’s Start with Sasuke:
He lived, along with his older brother, the typical luxury childhood with a large main mansion, a cottage summer home in France, maids, going to a 7-star school no one can find on Google Maps &, etc. The intense security of such a sheltered childhood created a rebellious fire in him. So, out of the blue at 18yo packed his bags and left his parents' house without warning. He settled on the rough side in the major city of Konoha to reinvent himself. After discarding his surname and blow-drying his hair, he dived into one of his hidden passions; music. With his dad’s funds, purchased a few guitars and started to compose music. Not only for pure love for the art form but in the hope of making a name for himself, to stand on his own feet and not hide in his brother’s shadow anymore. The fact that Itachi’s career was taking off around that time was pocking at his justified sibling inferiority complex (but he’ll never admit it).
After many trials and errors, he was able to befriend a few people while still refusing to disclose his identity. Like a random young guitarist coming up from the struggle, he created the punk rock band Taka along with Suigetsu (2nd guitar), Karin (bass), and Juugo (drums). They went from performing in small clubs to selling out large venues and becoming the most recognizable punk rock figure of their era and sending them on tours across different cities and countries.
Keep in mind they were able to pierce the market in Iwagakure due to the large rock music scene bringing a new sound standing out from the traditional heavy metal of the country of stone. They couldn’t say the same about other large cities like Sunagakure and Kumogakure who were at that time close to the outside musical influences until recently.
Sasuke took pride in his achievements accomplished without his father’s connections. The band was extremely popular among teens and young adults for their good music, edgy aesthetic, and participation in the punk/emo subculture.
Let’s not lie, a lot of their female fanbase was in love with the handsome lead singer Sasuke. He was an iconic punk/emo fashion icon for his legendary smoky under-eye makeup and spiky hair. All the members rocked some type of spiky haircut as well who were immensely popular at the time. Regardless of the focus on Sasuke, many of their fans love Suigetsu with his unique looks, great sense of humor, and certified crowd-hyping skills. Karin, the one and only e-girl punk girly, and Juugo, the sweet muscular teddy bear drummer who composed a lot of the band’s songs along with Sasuke. Their sound is akin to Red Jumpsuit Apparatus’s Don’t You Fake It and early day Paramore.

youtube
Unfortunately, the band disbanded 5 years later for many reasons. First, punk rock’s popularity fell by the wayside and was outshined by rap & hip hop from Kumo (this era was short-lived). Also, Sasuke realized that all the members were growing apart in different ventures for their lives:
- Sasuke: By mistake, his family name was discovered. Somehow, he avoided the fraud accusation but realized he didn’t want to be a singer all his life. He outgrew it Also his father finally reached out to him and promised to guarantee his son’s future career venture if he came back so they could play into the "influential family" unit image Fukagu wanted to create (think of the Kardashians). Being interested in modeling, Sasuke complied.
- Suigetsu: Always wanted to do something in his hometown (Kiri). He kind of went off the spotlight, rumors say he is working with artists from Kiri and is a DJ wearing a full-face helmet, so we might never know…
- Juugo: Always known he had a talent and passion for photography, so he pursued it as a career. After putting a few portfolios out here, he was recruited by the renowned fashion, designer Orochimaru and it’s in his circles where he met A-List fashion model, Kimimaro. They are now engaged.
- Karin: She is now a bass and guitar instructor at the most prestigious music Academy in Konoha. The breakup was tougher on her for many reasons but the fact that Sasuke started dating and is now married to the professional wrestler and fitness influencer Sakura Haruno played a huge role in it at the time but she’s now comfortable with their relationship, and she became the godmother of his daughter.
All these things happening at the same time made the disbandment a little smoother to digest for them but was a huge shock for their fans.
Sasuke is now a model operating under Orochimaru. His handsome looks, talent, and father’s connections allowed him to make a name for himself. He keeps lending juicy contracts left and right. For some reason, he has regained pride in his family name and wears it publicly. Despite his efforts, he is back to being the Young brother in his parents’ eyes, but he doesn’t care anymore. Him and Itachi are 2 distinct entities at this point and get rarely mentioned together in most professional settings.
Sasuke is now busy and married with a daughter named Sarada. He can’t let these ideas get to him since he has a relatively good public image and enjoys his privacy (he doesn’t share too much about himself or his family with the public). He has blatant rudeness towards paparazzi, interviewers, and anyone talking to him. Pretty privilege allows him to be labeled as an introvert and keep it pushing.

Madara isn’t completely surprised when his father decides to take the girl in as a ward. His mother and father had always wished for a daughter.
He had seen the small flicker–not quite disappointment–the day that it was announced that Tajima had been ‘blessed with a fifth son' upon Izuna’s birth. Their second child was planned to be named Myoko, changed to Kou when the medical staff revealed him to be a boy. And initially they brushed it off, happy to have two strong, healthy boys to take up their positions as immediate heirs. So, they tried again, picking out the beautiful and cute name of Kurohime; and everyone chuckled and joked–when Kuro was born–about his mother’s ability to bless her husband with so many sons.
And then Mother nearly died giving birth to Togakushi. Madara was four at the time, but he vaguely recalls the entire pregnancy was rough for her; morning sickness through the entirety of it, fainting spells, migraines, if something could go wrong it probably did. He vividly remembers having to leave a sobbing three-year-old Kou with a one-year-old Kuro while he went running to the medical building the first time she passed out. When Father had returned later that night from a skirmish at the border, he had praised his quick thinking before spending the rest of the night quietly hunched over Mother as she rested, her hand tightly grasped to his chest. The medical team and midwives discouraged another pregnancy when they had to use resuscitation techniques on her and Togakushi during the birth.
Then, one night as Madara lay awake, he listened through a crack in the shoji as the sound drifted down the hall of his Mother begging Father to try one more time. Just once more, to try for a girl once more, and regardless of the outcome they would stop at five. His father quietly, hesitantly, agreed. And soon enough, Izuna was born.
The midwives had chastised them for trying again so soon after the previous pregnancy, and correctly, this time around was fairly hard on her body again. Not to the same degree, but enough so that Mother and Father fully acknowledged that pushing the boundaries any further would end up costing them more than just 9 months of horrible discomfort.
After the midwives leave, Father opens the door to let him and his brothers in to see little Izuna coddled to Mother’s chest. They chatter and coo and awe at him, draped across Mother’s legs and lap. He sits quietly as his brothers eventually nod off in a pile together, small hands twisting and clutching the blankets while he dutifully holds a straight back. And as a five-year-old Madara politely remains at Mother’s side, she gestures him closer, cradling his head to her chest where he can look at his youngest brother.
He’s a tiny thing. Face scrunched but skin smooth and the smallest shock of black hair on his head. Madara can only think of the reason why Izuna was born, the quiet whispers not meant for his ears–recalls that tiny flicker on Father’s face. And when he looks at Mother’s face, she has a soft smile–a genuine, loving one as she has had for every child she has born into the world–but there is a lingering sadness. So, he looks at his youngest brother, his littlest brother, his last brother, and vows to always keep safe this soul that, while loved, is not quite what was wanted.
—
It’s two years after Izuna is born that she appears. The Summer Solstice Celebration was in full swing, with dancing, singing, cheering. Everyone brought out food to pick at, lovers are running about with small streamers, parents with young kids are sitting watching a shadow puppet play, while older kids toss dice. Some of the elders grouse about the lack of the fireworks show, a tradition that was discontinued after the fighting with other clans had grown too costly; a commodity that can’t be afforded when weapons and armor are paramount.
Things are calming down as the sun sets, the younger children are practically comatose from a day of play–to the relief of some parents. The matriarch's of each house are calling to their eldests to come clean plates and dishes, getting only answering groans and complaints. It’s a scream from one of the mikos that has everyone snapping to attention.
Madara races to his room for his weapons as others leap either towards the shrine or into homes. He briefly hears Mother calling for him to come back as she balances Izuna on a hip and tells Kou to watch Kuro and Toga as the sound of her sandals quickly follow behind.
Father is already there with three other shinobi when Madara arrives with a couple kunai in hand. The miko is scolding a small child near the entrance of the shrine that is cowering with her arms crossed protectively over her head. Madara can see the slight quivering rattling her entire body as the adults stare down with distrustful gazes.
“Mayuri,” Tajima cuts off the incensed miko with a stern look, “What happened, whose child is this?”
She turns to him with down turned brows, “I don’t know. But what I do know is that I found her shoveling the food offerings for Amaterasu into her mouth like a starving animal.”
Mother arrives behind him, quickly catching up even when ladened with a two-year-old on her hip. “Madara, don’t go running off like that, you aren’t old enough for battle yet! What if a raid had been happening?”
“Yoko,” Tajima calls, pinching his nose, “If that were the case, you shouldn’t be running about either.”
“Oh shush, husband mine,” she waves a hand as she steps forward. “I could sense that there was no threat.”
Father sighs–a sarcastic ‘I wonder where our children get their hard-headedness from’ dropping quietly from his lips–as Mother swats his shoulder with a coy smile before turning to the small girl.
She silently looks at the child for a long moment, taking in the rice bag that had a neck and arm holes torn into it, a feeble and sad imitation of clothing. The fading light of the sun filters through the back of the shrine, shining through one of the windows to cast a warm yellow square of luminance across Mother as she smiles warmly and lowers herself to the ground.
“Now, what is your name, little one?” She coos.
The girl stares up at Yoko like she is the sun itself. Her breaths stutter out of her unevenly, bringing her hands down to clutch at the front of her rice bag dressings.
“Speak, girl!” One of the shinobi standing about growls, digging his heel into her back, subsequently knocking her to the floor.
The air seems to heat up dangerously as Yoko sends him a scathing look. Madara can see the way Mother’s lip curls into a snarling sneer, the heat of rage licking at her tongue that dampens when the girl speaks for the first time.
“[Name].”
She’s struggling back to her knees as she repeats it two more times.
“And I’m…,” she uncurls five fingers one by one before thrusting them out to everyone. “This many years old.” And Madara practically sees how Mother’s heart melts.
“My, that is quite old!” Yoko cheers with a starlight warm smile that the girl returns with a bashful one. “Do you know where your parents are? They must be worried about you.”
[Name] wilts, curling around herself. She shakes her head. “They went to sleep a long time ago. I tried to wake them up, but I guess they’re dreams are too happy.”
The dread in the air is palpable. Madara is seven, but he understands death. He’s had to ever since he started his shinobi training; even more so as his tenth birthday gets closer, signaling his formal introduction to the battlefield.
Mother looks to Father with a knowing look. Father simply closes his eyes.
His mother and father had always wished for a daughter.
—
She looks different, not quite like anyone from any clan that he has seen. The curve of her nose, the angle of her jaw, the lines of her face when she smiles or frowns. Madara notices all of this as she sits at the dinner table with them. His brothers all stare at her as the table is set. She seems blissfully unaware of their eyes, instead her attention gazes about the dining room, tracing the wooden beams and paper shoji screens.
She’s freshly cleaned and wrapped in a clean simple yukata by Mother’s hand–although, the sound of clattering and splashing that had come from the bathroom earlier was a testament to the difficulty of the entire endeavor. The two had come out later with the girl adamantly hiding her embarrassment with her hands and Mother bearing a beaming smile despite her rolled up sleeves being soaking wet. Father had just given her an unimpressed look before carefully pressing about the importance of not scaring their ‘guest.’
Father finally sits at the head of the table, gives thanks for the food and begins to eat. Everyone else calls back their thanks and Madara watches as the girl stumbles through it, trying to mimic the words. He watches as she picks up her chopsticks and leans over to bring the food to her mouth.
The sound of Mother clearing her throat has [Name] looking up at her like a deer watching for predators. Mother pointedly glances at everyone else at the table with their bowls held in hand. Abashedly, [Name] picks up her bowl and straightens her posture; Mother gives a small nod and dinner continues quietly. It’s hard for Madara to fathom how she knows how to use chopsticks and yet is unaware of good manners. Part of him supposes that perhaps she didn’t come from a well off family, or that maybe her family didn’t care.
Regardless, it’s odd, she’s odd.
After dinner, Mother calls out to him as his brothers collect the dishes. “Show [Name] to her room and help her set out the futon.”
“Yes, Haha-ue.” He nonchalantly brushes her hand away when she runs her fingers through his unruly hair, a quiet laugh leaving her as his ears burn red.
He can’t help but think how loud her steps are as they walk through the halls; the boards creak and groan under each of her steps, making the house sing an alarming tune. He isn’t used to the noise of it, even two-year-old Izuna is starting to learn which slats warble and how to avoid them–such is the habits of a shinobi home. It sets his teeth on edge and the hair on the back of his neck stands and won’t settle the longer that he feels her walking behind him.
When they get to the room, one that used to be his aunts before she was killed in a raid, he steps to the side when sliding open the door and gestures her in first. The way bile crawls up the back of his throat when she tilts her head almost knowingly at him makes him want to slam the door behind her in disregard of Mother’s command. But he resists as she steps in and looks around the room. Madara has to force himself to make his movements look less rushed than they actually are. Yanking the futon out of the closet haphazardly in an attempt to make the swing look casual and not like he wants to be ten miles away from this room–from this girl.
When he’s done smoothing out the blanket–as minimal as his effort was–he stands to look at the girl that had been watching him silently the entire time. There is something about her that doesn’t sit right, actions and words feeling disjointed and too experienced for her 5-year-old self. The futon separates them and it feels like his first battlefield, staring down this stranger in his home with the odd face, and odd mannerisms, and odd actions. And he feels powerful as he gathers up a heavy breath to give her a devastatingly serious glare with his words, “Chichi-ue allowing you to sleep here doesn’t make you my sister or a part of this family, you hear.”
And blankly in return, “I know, goodnight.”
Numbly, Madara stares at the closed door of the room that the girl had just shoved him out of, a deep seated embarrassment crawling up onto his cheeks in a warm flush. He doesn’t stomp down the hall, because he is a shinobi and he is above that.
(He hears as his brothers cackle when Father calls down the hall about the racket he’s making; and he swears he hears the girl chuckle too even though he would never be able to prove it.)

Natsume week, day 6: Travel
Pokemon AU, specifically a Hisui one, cause I've had this in my wips for ages and the story of legends arceus definitely fits the 'travel' prompt. I've had the idea for a pokemon AU for ages but could never figure out a good pokemon to represent madara, until I played legends arceus and saw Hisuian Zoroark, and immediately I knew I had to make a Hisui AU. The more historical setting and the 'wilder' pokemon fits the vibe of natsuyuu better too tbh
I also posted a timelapse of this to my patreon if ppl are interested!
Story wise, Natsume would probably be the grandson of the first person to fall through the rift several decades ago, and has drifted from town to town after his parents died due to people's scepticism of Reiko and their families' stronger connection to pokemon. Eventually he ends up in yatsuhara tho and gets taken in by the Fujiwaras, and ends up joining the survey corps with Taki and Tanuma to learn more about pokemon. Taki's grandfather started the survey corps, but passed away recently so now Taki is carrying in his footsteps. Tanuma wants to learn more about pokemon but doesn't have a lot of experience with them, the only one he's been able to tame is a single magikarp.
Natori and Matoba would be the Diamond and Pearl clans obviously but I haven't figured out what pokemon they'd have so I didn't draw them lol
ID's copied from alt text under the cut:
ID, image 1: Natsuyuu and Pokemon Legends Arceus crossover fan art. Natsume wears the survey corps kimono uniform from the game with a tan scarf. He glances towards a Hisuian Zoroark drawn with the facial markings of Madara's youkai form.
ID, image 2: Natsuyuu and Pokemon Legends Arceus crossover fan art. Taki and Tanuma are both wearing the survey corps kimono uniform from the game and shown with pokemon. Tanuma has a magikarp next to him and Taki is hugging a skitty, with an O form unown behind her.
#did I make a pokemon au solely so I could make a joke abt tanuma having a magikarp? perhaps#considered making it that reiko was the one to open the rift? but idk. it works either way#natsume yuujinchou#natsume week#fan art#art#pokemon legends arceus

Madara Week Day 5 : found family
Originally analysis but there is a lot of my own interpretation so let's say Meta/Headcanon?
Madara sincerely tried to consider Konoha as his new home. He did it for the sake of his people but mostly because the warring state era, the death of every single member of his family left him emotionally exhausted.
Paradoxically what Madara feared the most in his youth was solitude. It is revealed during the monologue Obito did to Naruto just after the death of Neji and Madara noted that Obito sounds just like him back then.~
Hashirama's hand came like a relief from the horror of his situation. Everything had been destroyed anyway so yeah... maybe let's build something brand new from scratches. Yeah maybe he can trust the Senju clan after all and life would be easier. But the effect of this renewed friendship was unfortunately temporary, it was like applying a tiger balm in an open infected wound full of filths. The weight of guilt, the promise he made to Izuna on his death bed, the distrust from his clansmen he wanted so badly to save, it was still haunting him... And later the village revealed itself to be just an illusion of peace. People were living side by side but they still hated each other in silence and soon he could already prophetize his clan would be in great danger under the Senju's authority. But he never found a way to properly communicate his worries to the Uchihas that have now a warm roof over their head and a meal everyday. He couldn't neither communicate with Hashirama, and the main reason in my opinion was because they have changed too much during the last decade.
If you think about it seriously there is something unrealistic about Kishimoto's writing. Close you eyes for a minute, remember your best friend when you were 12 years old. and then you go your separate way and you see him again fifteen years later. What would you say to each other? Sure you still have dear memories together but...that's it.
The fundamental period of your life when you grow from being just a child to a grown adult many things happened that change you deeply:
1) puberty, often more spectacular in men. their physical appearance, their height, their voice, their hormones like testosterone that makes them more aggressive, open to sexual experience. Just from being 12 to 17 it's two different characters. Your parents who have to deal with your teenage angst can talk about it.
2) socially you change too. from 12 to 17 you're still cocooned by the educational system, for most of us we still depend economically from our parents. and from 18 to 26. Some goes to university, changes for a different cities, hang out with different friends, shape their values different from what their parents taught them. Others start to work straight away and the changes are even more brutal, now you confront the child that you were with the reality of building a career, earning a living, pay your own taxes, vote for your president ect... in a nutshell being a functional and independent member of your society.
3) emotionally you mature : it's obvious that from our 12 to 26, most of us went through different phase of first love, second love? maybe third? maybe just broken heart, maybe just a period of chaotic love affairs one after an other, maybe long abstinence. and probably after 26 some choose to finally settle down. other may already have children and being a parents which means you don't live just for yourself anymore. It's a complete shift of paradigm when someone else depend on you for survival. Your social circles change a lot too, slowly you befriend people based on your workplace, your hobbies, your political views rather than just sharing the same playground. Some of you can befriend people from lower or higher class that what you originally comes from, forcing you to understand new codes, new skills, new cultures, new languages. And when you almost reach your thirties you may experience for the first time the death of the elders from your community. A grandma, a grandpa who was there since you were born is now gone. The brevity of life suddenly slaps you in the face. Children thinks of themselves as eternal, not adult.
Birth, childhood, adulthood, love, deception, growth, rebirth, mourning, wisdom ect...Why do I say all of this? To describe the life of someone living in a relatively peaceful environment and born in a wealthy modern world which is all of us.
The fact that you are literate, you can read my words in english, you have an internet connection, a smartphone or a desktop, and the luxury to spend time on tumblr is a proof that you are relatively privileged comparing to the majority of people on Earth.
Now we are talking about Madara born into a traditional environment and during a war time when life was even shorter and fragile. Everything I've just described is basically done faster. At 15 you're already an adult, at 18 you have responsibilities as a breadwinner, at 26 you're a senior, head of clan, veteran of many war with all the trauma it drives, parents of many children, maybe widow, (not his case but for instance Tajima was). To put it into perceptive Madara at 26 lived the life of someone 40 years old in the modern world.
To pretend that Hashirama can cast out a a whole lifetime, and just hold to their childhood to build his dreamed village was indeed utterly naive. Between the moment he was elected hokage and the moment Madara shows him the Uchiha shrine, at least a whole year has passed, the relationship with Tobirama was still tense and the first hokage did nothing on purpose. Based on that, it's obvious that Hashirama never thought about discussing what Madara went throught the last 15 years of his life. He knew the child Madara but he completely brush off the adult Madara.
Yes they were close friend as children, but that were now two different persons with a separate background. Am I saying that their reconciliation was doomed from the start? No, they have healthy roots but it would have ask from both side to be more patient with each other and more attentive to what the other says rather than forcing a past childhood into the present.

Poltergeist Epilogue 1
Natsume: By the wAY, why have you been painting on that canvas for so loNG?
Scenario Writer: Akira Season: Winter Characters: Mikejima Madara, Narukami Arashi, Sakasaki Natsume, Aoba Tsumugi
<A few days later, at the festival event held at Dancing Cranes Home.>
Madara: [HAHAHA! A RIOTOUS MYRIAD OF COLOURFUL FLOWERS! FIERY BLOOMS ARE ABOUT TO COVER THE NIGHT SKY!
LOOK UP, CHILDREN! SEE THAT EVEN IN THIS WORLD, FLAMES OF SUCH SURPASSING BEAUTY CAN EXIST AS WELL!]
Tsumugi: Seriously?! Setting off fireworks in front of children with fire-related trauma is the most thoughtless thing I’ve ever heard of. Do you not even have the smallest shred of empathy at all?
Natsume: That’s a topic you have no right to judge others oN, Senpai. BesidES, the children appear excited and are unexpectedly enjoying the shOW.
After aLL, even if someone hates bell peppers with all their heaRT, they'll think them delicious when wrapped in tasty meAT; and carrots one usually avoids like the plague will be welcomed happily when baked into a sweet caKE.
The children’s hearts and psyches seem strong and resilient enough to handle this muCH, at leaST.
HowevER, this is a brutally rough approach to theraPY. The worst case scenario could have resulted in all the children breaking down into hysterical tears and the festival being cancelED.
Madara: Hahaha. It’s true, watching the show for too long might cause them discomfort, so I did make sure not to overdo it. However, it just isn’t a festival without fireworks, you knowww——
And we should try everything we can to lift the gloom from the children’s hearts, even if just by a little, riiight?
Arashi: That's right. We’re nothing more than temporary caregivers at Dancing Cranes Home, not meant to make a deep impact in the children’s lives, but even so—
Even if we’re just pretending or this is all just a facade, at this moment, we are the children’s guardians too.
I want to help relieve their suffering somehow, even if what we do has only the tiniest effect.
Arashi: ——When I was a child a lo~ng time ago, I was suffering too—
But because I was a child at the time, I didn't realise I was in pain.
It was like I was a land animal, born by mistake in the middle of the sea. And while I believed I was living the same kind of life like everyone else, I couldn’t shake the feeling I was choking and gasping for air.
It wasn’t until I began working as a child model and started comparing myself with other children——
That I realised for the first time how pitiful a child I had been.
That’s when I started to fall apart. Even though I had been absolutely fine up to that point—
With the sudden realisation of my situation, everything became overwhelming, suffocating, and terrifying.
My parents—my family—felt absolutely no interest in me at all. All of them prioritised their own lives over mine, neglecting me entirely.
But, because they justified it all saying it was done for my sake, insisting it was the “cool” way to live—
And because I didn’t know any better, I believed everything they said.
Tsumugi: … … … It must have been hard, not receiving the love you needed from your family, huh?
Arashi: Exactly. Isn’t love supposed to be something parents give to their children without question, like regular meals or a warm bed to sleep in?
Arashi: But for me, I didn’t get any of that—or at least, I wasn’t given enough of it. That’s why I fled that home, desperately seeking out whatever it was I was missing—
But here’s the kicker—I’d no idea what I was even looking for, because my parents had never shown me what that something was.
Arashi: But then… someone came along and saved me.
He didn’t do anything extraordinary. He just, in the most ordinary way, showered me with the things my dazzling family couldn’t be bothered to do for me—
He cared for me, showed concern when I was struggling, and actually listened attentively to me when I vented about my troubles.
He saw me as a person, recognised me frankly, and treated me as an equal.
It was like he truly saw me—the real me—who was physically there yet feeling like I didn’t exist for anyone at all (2)—
And because of him, the pain I carried was eased just a little—
And for the very first time, it felt like I could actually breathe.
He brought into my life the air I so desperately craved—the kind everyone else seems to get from their parents without fail. It was like one of those fairy tales, where the prince brings the princess back to life with a kiss.
That's the reason why I still love everything about that person, to this very day.
Arashi: And that's also why…
I want to be that person for the children who are hurting like I was——just like what he was to me.
Please don’t get me wrong, okay? I'm not doing this for you, Mama. I’m doing this purely for me.
Madara: Yup, I'm totally cool with thaaat. We're not comrades from the same Unit; we’re just colleagues who happen to work in the same place.
However, if we’re aiming for the same goal, we should be able to join forces and work together.
That’s something I’ve learned from my time in Double Face.
Arashi: Fufufu~. Looks like Mama has achieved some personal growth too, huh? Well done, good job ♪
Madara: Hmmm? And who exactly are you to be making that comment to me?
Natsume: FufuFU. WeLL, in any caSE, Mikejima-senpai is the star of this shOW—or at leaST, officialLY, anywAY. That’s why we will be following Senpai’s leAD—
Or rathER—we’ll be providing support so you can achieve whatever it is you’re aiming fOR.
The kitten’s request to get to the bottom of what happened to her frieND, NEGI-chan, was completed pretty satisfactoriLY, if I might say sO—
And since I’m pleased with how things turned oUT, I’ll stick around a while longer to help you out as a special serviCE.
After aLL, I’m a childcare worker at Dancing Cranes Home tOO. I’ve got obligations and responsibilities to this place as weLL.
Tsumugi: Exactly. We’re all part of NEW DIMENSION, and that alone is reason enough for us to support one another, don’t you think?
Madara: Huh? NEW DIMEN—… … Ohhh, that’s NEWDI’s official name, isn’t it? We’ve been using the shortened name so often that I’ve forgotten that’s what we’re reeeally called!
Tsumugi: Oh, come on. The bar of your loyalty is set so low, I’m honestly impressed, instead.
Natsume: WeLL, that doesn’t really matTER, does iT? We might be the smallest and weakest of the four big agencIES, but that’s precisely why we’re free from the various pressures and constraints imposed by the higher-uPS—
Which allows our idols the freedom to do as they please and achieve the goals they set for themselVES.
That’s a unique advantage given to us by our agenCY, wouldn’t you agrEE?
Tsumugi: Indeed, that’s true. I might be tooting my own horn here, but our agency truly is a great place, isn’t it?
Mikejima-kun, Narukami-kun, if you both felt the same way too, nothing would make me happier as Vice-President!
Madara: HAHAHA! Well, I guess after being here for so long, I can’t help but grow quite fond of our agency, too~.
Anyway! This isn’t the time for leisurely chit-chatting, riiight? Our time in this place is running out.
Let's proceed to the final act of our project: the festival.
Natsume: Just like we plannED, rigHT? The staff here gave us free rein over the conteNT, so we came up with the ideas togethER.
By the wAY, why have you been painting on that canvas for so loNG?
Madara: Nope, I’m not painting, I’m restoring it. I’ve already finished what you’d call the main work a while ago; I’m just putting the final touches on it now.
Tsumugi: Wow! Youre really talented, Mikejima-kun~! You can do just about anything, can’t you?
Madara: Umu… … Look, Natsume-san. You were there with me when I found it, weren’t you? This is the large painting that had been discarded like garbage.
The painting itself isn’t anything remarkable; it’s just an ordinary piece that probably wouldn’t sell for much—
And of course, there’s no secret code hidden in it like you’d see in the movies.
However, to the children of Dancing Cranes Home, this painting definitely meant a great deal to them—
Because this painting was always hanging in NEGI-san’s room, she who tragically died in the fire.
Arashi: Yes, that's right. Somehow, it was protected under a collapsed wall and miraculously survived the blaze.
Since it remained intact against all odds, the children couldn't bear to see it being thrown away with the trash—
Because to them, that painting was inseparable from the memory of their beloved friend, NEGI-chan—
Forever shining brightly together in their memories.
—————-To be continued——————

Translator’s Notes:
Arashi has 2 parents and an older brother. The person who helped Arashi was Kunugi Akiomi. You can read about how they first met in the Scout story "Lookback: Portrait".
This could be a reference to a Moomin story about a little girl, Ninny, who became invisible because she was unloved, and after being cared for by Moomin, turned visible again.

THE EYES THAT REFLECTS THE HEART
Uchiha clan is much more affectionate than others. So the difference in Uchiha's love lies in the way they express their affection. Their love is hard to understand more like a complicated one. So if we look at the depth of their affection, it is such an overwhelming love. It is expressed in the form of "self-sacrifice" and also how they are entering into darkness because of this. And that is what expressed in their eyes in the form of Sharingan, that's the 'power of love'. Love affect your eyes, right?? So when an uchiha felt 'love', it slowly awakens their mind & heart. And when it (love) breaks and sealed forever it turns into sharingan and then to Mangekyo Sharingan, means it awakens their eyes bcz they lost 'the love' and it never gonna return to them. And also it doesn't mean that sharingan eyes are only awakened because of the loss of love.
Eg: 1) Sasuke awakened his sharingan to protect Naruto from Haku. (As for Sasuke, his awakening will always be linked to Naruto)
2) Obito awakened his sharingan when he wants to protect his comrades. Obito clearly loves and cares for his teammate, and he has never shown favoritism towards just one person. But Rin is special to him. Even when he was in the cave with Madara, with that body, he trained hard to become strong enough to reach out to his teammates. All he could think about was the happy moments he had with his sensei and teammates. No one was excluded from his thoughts. So his teammates encouraged him and pushed him to train and get stronger.
[ See the difference in how both parties (sasuke & Obito) awakens their power for different purposes. Obito -> for his teammates and Sasuke-> only for 'Naruto' ]
So to awaken the sharingan it's not always of 'negative emotions ' but for to protect their important ones.
-> And when it come to 「大きな愛の喪失や」 “the loss of a great love”
大きな - big; large; great. 愛 - love; affection. 喪失 loss; forfeit.
1) Madara awakens his sharingan when he was forced to sever his friendship with Hashirama. He didn't awaken when he lost his siblings, but when it came to a boy he met for a few days, his eyes responded. That boy is more important than his blood brother. So 'loss of love' here does not mean the death of a person. But a broken heart. His heart is broken, the love sealed in his heart is opened, and it is reflected in his eyes.
2) Obito awakens Mangekyō Sharingan when rin died. That's a permanent lost even if that's an unrequited love. Obito's world was shattered when Rin died at Kakashi's hands. His desperate efforts to save his teammates become futile when he finds he has lost the one he truly loves. He cannot accept the reality he has seen with his own eyes. It is a complete disappointment. He had no regrets when he died, but he believed that everything would be fine after that, but everyone failed him.
3) Sasuke's first awakening when he realizes his brother is going to leave him. (It's not because of his parents, it's because of his brother. Can't blame him for that bcz a parental figure in his eyes was his brother. There were no friends, happy memories or anything from his clan. It was entirely about Itachi and his parents played a very small role in his life.)
4) Sasuke awakens his third tomoe when he determines to cut his bond with Naruto. (A premonition of an unstoppable loss. The feeling of losing him. The lose of love is a terrible thing. It is worse than death. So in this part sasuke's deep affection for Naruto was well expressed. Don't forget that he didn't want to kill him, but he was heartbroken and decided to kill Naruto in order to gain MS. It is a strong emotional state that shows in his eyes. That means sharingan- “the eye that reflects the heart ” and MS - “the eye that reflects the heart of love”)
5) Sasuke awakens Mangekyo Sharingan after his brother died and Obito reveals the truth behind UMC.
At the end Itachi's actions drove Sasuke's heart filled with hatred, who kidnapped Killer Bee...and it started the Kage summit... at last his action led into Shinobi War. Itachi stopped the war by protecting the village by lying to Sasuke... And that lie created another war and a threat to the village in the form of Sasuke.
These people have a beautiful side that others don't know about. We get to see a different Madara when he was with Hashirama. His cute and adorable side that he shows towards Hashirama. When it comes to Sasuke we can see his embarrassment, nervousness and shyness towards Naruto. When sasuke with his older brother he becomes a little baby. Obito was a good, kindhearted and loveable kid. Aside from uchihas, Zabuza killed many people for fun and earned the nickname 'A Demon' but in Haku's view he wasn't a complete demon.
Because of these that Hashirama-Madara and Naruto-Sasuke bond was different from others. There are things in common for Hashirama-Madara, like 'the loss of brothers' and 'a goal to change the shinobi world'. And for Sasuke and Naruto it was “loneliness”. And they fought each other only for their personal matters. But that was not the case with H&M. So with these features, the bond between them always stands out. Their bond wasn't like Kakashi- Obito (friendly bond) and Sasuke - Itachi (brotherly bond). Because Kishimoto wrote HM & NS as 愛 typically with the connotation of romantic love.
The family crest on the back of Uchiha and Sasuke's fire elements probably also symbolize love is fire and the wind (Naruto) energize and give warm to his heart. “Only wind can assist and magnify fire”.

I stumbled upon your ffrecs - thank you. I've read some MadaSasu and TobiSasu and it was refreshing to read something where writers put emphasis on character-accurate depictions. Mainly Sasuke is often written very off-character in fics. I want to ask you two questions: 1. If you were to change one thing in Naruto what would it be? 2. If you would like to rewrite Naruto one day - from what chapter would you proceed onwards?
Hello and thank you. I 'm repeating myself these days cause I don't have anything new in mind I guess, but I became very picky with fanfics, I now don't read anything new cause I'm not motivated and this happened because of all the healthy, unproblematic and woke crap from authors who instead of trying to write in character, they take all the "danger" from them, turning them in some off character idiots from some netflix teen drama. Anyway, I mostly try to understand why narration and plot go towards a certain direction, so mostly I follow the canon plot and fill in the holes. Like, without the Kaguya plot twist, that I found extremely boring, Obito and Madara wouldn't have been redeemed, and I admit that the concept of Madara who had manipulated to much, being manipulated in turn, was interesting. Without Uchiha massacre the Itachi and Sasuke relationship, Sasuke's motivations would be less strong and he might not join Orochimaru, thus he would not meet Team Taka. Without Itachi dying at the end of their fight he wouldn't know the truth from Tobi that way so he wouldn't act like he did later. Fix-it fics are cool and all, but without injustice and suffering characters wouldn't be so interesting.
This said, what I would change is the canon end pairings and the existence of the offspring, cause NH and SS are off character and interesting only for superficial ppl who self insert as those female characters. Imo a sequel would have been better with totally unrelated characters from the academy or smth, but ofc the authors should have invented new characters and powers while creating children of already loved characters with the same power as their parents was easier. This ruined everything for me anyway.
(pls don't send asks related to the ending and canon pairings as I wrote everything abt them already!)
Tbh before the ending happened I wrote In Power We Entrust...because I knew Sasuke wouldn't be given justice, and by justice I mean public recognition of the massacre as a decision from Danzo and the elders, clearing Itachi of all accusations and pardoning of Sasuke's consequent actions, so I wrote my post ending, where Sasuke lives in Konoha and Tsunade gave him justice but outside the village he's not trusted. Then I wrote What He Wanted, In The Dark and Of Feathers And Fangs to give myself explanation of the ending for Sasuke as the result of brainwashing, and I explored possibilities from that start, in a dark way because I can't not see it dark. So I understand my vision is extremely subjective, especially when darkfics are even less tolerated by preachy fans lol.
But I wrote more about my "ideal" ending here, here, here and here. Also kinda here, here and here.
My headcanons tag.

So I'm the newly converted kakanaru fan and I've been down an AO3 rabbit hole and reading all your Naruto AUs. You're such an amazing writer and thank you for making me read Kakashi fics again. When I was in the fandom a gazillion years ago, I'd given up reading any slash fics featuring him because they were mostly Kakashi/Iruka and while that's cute and all, most are also majorly OOC and go with the team mom/team dad characterization which I have major issues with ...1/
...Naruto basically raised himself and Kakashi especially did not have any kind of parental role in his life. Heck, before rasenshuriken the only thing he really taught Naruto was walking on water. Anyway Kakashi was a shit teacher but ended up being a supportive friend/advisor later and I think their angsty backstory is partly why they would work so well as a pairing. Your fics are giving me life...2/
...Besides your kakanaru stuff, I've been going through the AUs and I love all of them, especially Team Uzumaki and the shika/naru ones. I've been cracking up going through the CREAM verse tags because I can't believe people actually gave you grief about Madara's fictional taxes :D (Also, I tried to donate to your ko-fi but the link in your bio isn't working for me) 3/3
~~~
It's always a pleasure to be a part of helping to convert someone over to a new ship!! Naruto is such a fertile ground for various AUs so it's always a pleasure when people love my stuff.
And yeah the controversy with the taxes thing was wild as all fuck.
And if you still want to donate, which I am deeply thankful for, here's the link again.
Fanfic idea: Matoba gets deaged, experiences the healing power of the Fujiwara’s parenting kicking and screaming
Hnnng, brain just spat out the best Natsume Yujincho fic idea. I have peaked, nothing will ever top this theoretical fic. I will labor in vain for YEARS trying to squeeze out a fraction of its potential.
Context: I am a believer in Animal Transformation Fic supremacy, of course I gotta figure out how to turn SOMEBODY into a cat, and Matoba is target #1 since it’d be funny because a) he likes cats and b) he has a canonically acknowledged sweet tooth and cats can’t taste sweet. Okay. Whatever: I have an incredibly hand wavy premise about a failed magical assassination attempt and cat hair, and a somewhat shaky logic to put cat! Matoba in the Fujiwara house.
Then, I realize: what if I had the same exact plot, except Matoba got deaged instead?
*slaps roof* You can fit so much angst and exposition in here.
Things I could put in this bad boy:
+ Older Natori, teenage Matoba interaction- My take would be Matoba remembering the one (1) meeting with the kimono, and then adult Natori swooping in to save his ass after the attempted assassination. So a total role reversal, where Natori is suddenly leagues ahead of Matoba. And Matoba can’t conceptualize the fact that *he* should also have seven more years of experience, so he naturally assumes that Natori was just A Really Good Exorcist Prodigy that quickly outstripped him because he’s so much better than deaged! him. Natori is, of course, squigged the hell out about that. It is completely unnatural for him to be idolized by *Matoba.* And also why didn’t he notice all these red flags for trauma before. He is a *baby,* why did anyone let them near exorcism at that age?
+ The eye stealing yokai still sees deaged! Matoba as clan head, and attacks him at Natori’s apartment. This has a lot of political ramifications, but also a lot of emotional ramifications, since Matoba *knows* that if he’s clan head, then his father and likely several other older relatives are dead. My take on the Matoba clan head is that, due to the extreme risk and probable high turnover rate, much of the actual political power is actually somewhere else in the clan. I get the impression that Matoba is a bit of a mover and shaker- more active than this theoretical body would probably like. Whether they were involved in the assassination plot or not, they’d benefit from an even younger and less experienced clan head. So Natori is highly motivated to keep Matoba’s survival and deaging a secret until they change him back.
+ Of course Matoba is injured. This is *fanfiction,* is it not? So we have fifteen year old Matoba suddenly seven years in the future- people have just tried to kill him, the eye stealing yokai came after his eye- therefore his father is dead, he has no contacts besides Natori because of the known conspiracy to kill him and being seven years younger than everyone expects, and now he’s (temporarily) half blind and with disabling injuries. (For plot convince, just bad enough to limit mobility and require assistance but not for hospitalization or to be too difficult to explain.)
+ Because Hiragi needs to be able to drop him off at the Fujiwara’s because someone broke into Natori’s apartment and she didn’t know where else to go.
+ Natori and Natsume don’t like it, but Madara’s much stronger than most shiki or exorcists, and nobody would think to look for Matoba there. They take the gamble that the Fujiwara’s will let Natsume’s friend stay without much explanation, and they do.
+ Matoba: he’s not my friend, he just feels obligated to help. Touko: oh, so this kid is TRAUMATIZED traumatized, just on the other end of the spectrum. And possibly on the other spectrum.
+ Same age Matoba and Natsume interaction- Matoba’s inability to communicate and befriend anyone like a human being vs Natsume’s inhuman inability to not befriend everyone, fight. Natsume would feel rather conflicted about it, but ultimately decide that he can’t hold things Matoba hasn’t done yet against him. I think that Natsume would tolerate a lot of the things that drove teenage Natori away for longer, and that he’d pick up on the cues Natori missed because he never looked pass the surface. They’d get down to their core differences a lot more quickly, and I think that deaged! Matoba would concede much more quickly than later series Natsume under the circumstances. What’s he going to do, when Natsume, Natori, and the Fujiwara’s- the only people he’s interacting with, the people helping him at his most vulnerable- are all telling him the same thing?
+ Fujiwara Shigeru and Touko and teenage Matoba: I have absolutely no doubt that they read every book on the psychology of troubled teens they could get their hands on, and they are READY. There’s nothing Matoba can do to shake them, and he has try his absolute hardest or else his entire worldview will shatter. But biting wit and rudeness doesn’t phase them, nor do admissions to cross dressing (canon! The chapter isn’t translated yet, but apparently that’s a thing!) and liking the male actor Natori Shuuichi. They. Are. Unflappable. He has to drop the ayakashi bomb to prove that The Unsighted Can Never Understand, and He Is Fundamentally Unlikable. Does not work: the Fujiwara’s tell him that they already knew, but not to tell Takashi since they want him to come to them when he felt ready.
+ One last hurdle: the whole assassination, deaging thing? *22 is still a baby.* There will always be room at the Fujiwara’s house for traumatized babies forced to grow up too soon.
+ (Takashi is Not Happy. But he can’t make a big deal about it because Matoba’s having an actual breakdown because There Are Truly Good People In This World After All and technically the results are all things that he wanted. But there IS a reckoning eventually. Cool motive: still a massive breach of boundaries.)
+ Nyanko-sensei and Matoba: Matoba absolutely *loves* him- he’s one of the ceramic cats that he literally obsessed over, and he enjoys the fighting. He just fundamentally doesn’t understand why Nyanko-sensei and Natsume haven’t gotten a ring and made it official. This is actually one of those core values differences: Natsume and Nyanko-sensei see not having a contract as a sign of trust and respect, while Matoba is a “tell the gravedigger that he better dig two” kind of person. This is an… interesting combination with the Matoba clan’s history, and helps explain part of why he’s Like That. You’ll never break a promise if you set people’s expectations low enough. + Natori gets roped into the revelations party; exposes the conspiracy; and tracks down the spell that went wrong. There’s a heartfelt conversation about how Natori isn’t the person Matoba thinks he is because he’s fifteen. Matoba resolutely Does Not Believe Him. Natori (accurately) comes away thinking that Matoba has a teenage crush, and resolves to ignore it. He’ll get Matoba back to normal, and he probably wouldn’t even remember anything so it’s not worth worrying about.
+ Gonna have to see where the manga goes, but if canonical events favor it, this is where Matoba would get kidnapped by Ban and his sister. Either to further their political agenda, or out of twisted familial duty a la ‘we can’t trust these outsiders to keep you safe, so we’ll abduct you ourselves.”
+ Spellbreaking! Butt kicking! Politics!
+ Matoba does, in fact, remember everything when the deaging is fixed. He has Conversations with Natori, with Natsume, with the Fujiwara’s about it. He’s genuinely regretful about his actions against them, but he exists within a Horrible Exorcist Society and he’s realistic about that. He offers Natsume instructions on self-defense techniques AGAINST exorcists, no recruitment offer attached. + It takes much longer for Matoba to tell Natori that he still likes him- has always liked him. Natori’s ready to throw him in the lake by the time he gets through all the disclaimers and caveats about what their status and duties would allow them to do about it. “Have you ever seen a conflict of interest statement from an exorcist? No? It’s because nobody cares! Make out in a sealed closet or secluded worksite like a normal person!”
+ My head canon is that the Matoba clan head can’t just break the cycle by giving up an eye: the eye stealing ayakashi would just kill him, and go after the next person in line’s eye as long as the Matoba clan exists. There are very big limits to what Matoba can do, but he does make an effort to tone down the cut throat pragmatism. Small ripples are already forming in the world of exorcists. Happyish ever after?
Day 1 of @madatobiweek: Magic
Tobirama is a con artist who performs as a magician and simply uses science to create his illusions, psychology to bullshit his way through his fortune-telling sessions, and chemistry to brew potions in eye-catching colors.
Because ever since the car accident that cost Tobirama’s parents and Kawarama’s life when he and Hashirama had only been teenagers, they both had to take on all kinds of jobs to keep them afloat and give their youngest brother, Itama, the best possible life.
And Tobirama is not above scamming people if it means it brings food into their kitchen.
Enter Madara, a fire-natured witch of the Uchiha Coven, as well as the greatest mirage artisan to ever have lived. He’s on the search for his younger brother, Izuna, who disappeared about a month ago without a trace, which is how he encounters Tobirama in the town of Konoha—whose trickery is so convincing that he believes Tobirama must be a real seer.
Desperate to find Izuna, Madara offers Tobirama a fortune to help him, even if it irks him to ask a seer of the Senju Coven. His father never had a good word for the Senju witches, and Madara can’t quite shake off the distrust of an old blood feud. But he remembers Hashirama from his childhood who was a trustworthy person, despite being unaware of the mighty earth nature inside of him, and that’s enough for him.
Tobirama hesitates to accept Madara’s money, as his request seems severe and dire, but gives in in the end. They could really use that money, and it’s hardly his fault that Madara is delusional enough to spend this much money on a trick fortune teller instead of an actual investigator. Might as well use this chance to figure out if he has what it takes to become a detective, no?
Which is how they end up on a trip through the Elemental Nations during which Tobirama bullshits his seer abilities while he uses his smarts to find traces of Izuna’s whereabouts, followed by a comedy of errors as Madara and Tobirama both have the wrong image of the other, yet manage to slowly fall in love with the other.
It all comes to a climax when Madara realizes that Tobirama is no real witch, and Tobirama gets his world turned upside down upon finding out that magic actually exists. And oh, fuck. He just scammed a real witch!
Madara yume anon DOUBLE FACE IS EVERYTHINF TO ME cuz Kohaku was my kid before DF even came out and Madara was my husband so DF has such a special place in my heart I love them to no end I love them so much oh my god... Sniffles cries nothing will stop them from being the parent and child ever to me
i love df so much the way i see their relationship theyre like estranged siblings that only recently learned of each others existence after the rest of their family died tragically and now theyre stuck being all the other has left but they dont even know each other . the look youd give someone in that situation... thats how they look at each other. thats what the tension between them smells like to me— a nebulous connection and sense of understanding on an ethereal level preceding all formalities. "i look at you and see myself shifted slightly to the left; i understand you but i dont know you" type of thing if that makes any sense. also when kohaku mentioned double faces hypothetical 10th anniversary that one time i almost threw up from experiencing all 5 stages of grief in the span of 1 minute
