i finished the blueprints!!

i arbitrarily assigned each side of the square on the graph paper to represent one real life foot (i explain more of my plans on scaling in "final thoughts" below).

so, i just estimated what i thought the dimensions and sizes of items would be based on the sizes of things in my apartment, my parents' house, and online blueprints.

i tried to use as many blueprint symbols as possible, but hey i'm not an architect so some of the symbols are things only i know/what made sense to me.

anyway, without further ado, here it is:

first floor

i used the released animator sketches (and the released animator blueprint from my original post) plus a bunch of screencaps (like 55 for this floor!) to try to get it as close to the real thing as possible.

like i said in my last post though... i added a shower in the bathroom and a little kitchen area in the sunroom.

second floor

again, released sketches and blueprint and screencaps made this possible (around 15 this time--we don't see the bedroom as much in the series).

i really didn't change much on this floor. it's pretty straightforward.

alsooooo i did end up using the famous LG in bed screencap to estimate the height of the ceilings lol (i'm estimating it at 10 feet--a loft since they have a bunk bed).

third floor

there's not much to this floor cause we haven't seen it at all! i did use screencaps of the outside to figure out where the dormer window would go.

i'm going to construct this floor last because hey we might actually see it in the series as seasons progress. so, it's very much up in the air right now.

final thoughts

i am 99% sure i'm going to calculate everything in 1:16 scale now (i changed my mind) because nendoroid bodies are closer to that scale than 1:12 (their heads are more like 1:12, but i want this to be scaled to their bodies). please correct me if i'm wrong though!

i still need to calculate everything at the right scale (this is technically 1:48 scale right now as one side of the square on the paper is 0.25 inches and it's representing 1 foot in real life). but i wanted to make a blueprint that was easy to convert to many different scales so i don't lock myself into a scale that doesn't work once i actually start constructing it.

ok so i am going to embark on a big project of making a miniature 1/12 scale of the Time Photo Studio. have i made a miniature of this scale before? no. but hey, i am really invested in this donghua and i really can't make myself practice on anything other than what my brain worm wants.

so, i am still in the planning stage. i am trying to make a rough blueprint so that i have some idea of what i'm doing.

i am thinking of making a few changes:

rotating the staircase from the ground floor to the second floor 180 degrees so i can fit everything on the second floor. if i kept it as is, it seems like i need to squish everything on the second floor in the space above the Entrance, Front Desk, and Dark Room. but idk, maybe i'm reading that incorrectly. i may keep it as the animator sketch shows if i can swing it.

adding a three-quarter bathroom on the second floor (because it seems like there's only a half bath on the ground floor).

adding a kitchen. where? i have no clue but like they need to cook, right?

figuring out what to put on the third floor! (i may leave this blank until season 3 to just see if we do, in fact, get to see that space.)

but anyway, i hope to keep up with this project and update my lil tumblr as i go. any suggestions, screencaps, or advice is welcomes and appreciated!

(also, i am picking 1/12 scale because i heard nendroids can use 1/12 scale furniture and there are LG and CXS nendroids available. however, that scale is not set in stone because Planning.)

Things about the metric system that confuse me

Why are there 16 parts to an inch. Like yeah it's divisible by 4 but decimals and percentages on a system based on 100 are so much easier to calculate than fractions.

What are those little sixteenths called

Why don't you have millimeters. What happens if you need to measure something smaller than 1/16th of an inch. Why is your smallest area measurement the length of my fucking thumb

BECAUSE of your dumb inches and sixteenth and fractions, nothing else makes any fucking sense to remember. What's an inch? 16 little notches. What's a foot? 12 inches. What's a mile? 5,280. How the FUCK does anyone remember that. You know what's easy to remember? 10 millimeters are 1 centimeter. Do you know what centimeter means? 1/100th of a meter. You know how many of them are in a meter? 100. Easy shit

Okay this one is at Imperial but whose tablespoon is a tablespoon based off. Why are tablespoons and teaspoons both distinct measurements, they're fucking spoons. They're almost the fucking same. Like if you had "inches" and "binches" and binches were for no reason at all 1/42nd smaller and you only used them for measuring sawdust. Fuck completely off
