Let’s Reread Commonweal, book 1, chapters 6-10 part 2
Because late-night me is bad at compliments, and I ended up having more thoughts. Next time I'll let it simmer a while before posting.
We almost didn’t get Blossom because it was taking so long for another Independent, any other Independent, to learn this specific ritual. Blossom did every single one of the hundred-fifty-odd bronze bulls pulling the experimental battery around, and all four tubes. Nobody else has managed to make one of those; they’re mostly cobalt instead of iron, and the engraved runes are silver and samarium instead of copper and gold and whatever’s in the black enamel.
Really need book 4 context to get how unique Blossom is, but once you have it this is a bit scary. Somehow I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Halt and Blossom are here now, and the Commonweal split. Haven’t looked at the timeline for contingency planning but the Paingyre has definitely been causing increasingly worse problems already, the Captain’s been here for two years.
The rules for Independents have a lot to do with “as directed” and “noncombatants”. The Line doesn’t like using Independents as anything but support, and preferably distant support, doing things like making artillery and sorting out the logistics. Front-line Independents spend their time figuring out what that thing the battalion just squashed was, and if there are likely to be more.
Hmmm. Thinking about how the Captain pretty much ignores this, and drawing some parallels to what the Captain explains to the kid at the end of this book, about being a weapon in your own hand and doing the job as well as you can, not as well as someone thinks you should. Accidentally joined a political cabal indeed.
Someone is being sneaky. It will sound very good indeed if there is an incursion and a territorial short company and an experimental half-battery sent off to test a new bronze bull enchantment stomps it. Things like that do wonders for the Line’s myth of invincibility.
I parsed this as the usual propaganda you have for your own army at first, but given Commonweal sensibilities about the Peace and what it’s for, it comes off a bit different. Still, people want to believe they’re safe, and that's not a bad thing.
It’s hot; summer humid-hot that makes you very glad you’re up on a meadow with a bit of breeze off the hills, the snowy Northern Hills, rather than in some chunk of creekside land that might as well be swamp for humidity. The bronze bulls are too hot to touch with your bare hands, and just as completely desirous of having their faces scritched as the oxness in them ever was in life. Most of them are getting shiny patches between the eyes as the drovers resort to wire brushes; fingers don’t really get through.
Cute. Also thinking about the bronze dog with bendable ears. Just — everything’s made out of the little things.
Edit addition: bronze animals are content, but do they still feel pain / aversion to harm, is avoiding damage handled with flesh-life instincts, or is damage not a concern?
It’s Twitch’s turn to look flummoxed. “Not much point; it’s not natural dry, it’s made dry. Anybody goes down into it’s got maybe five minutes before they’re fatally mummified.”
I do love the sheer variety of deadly landscape the world has. Also, belatedly, about the sometimes-dragonblood creek — given what unicorns are in this world, I’m a little afraid to find out what they call dragons.
“What would it cost to take trees from the top of a pass in the Northern Hills?” The creepy, shifting geology of same seems to have a thing for really big trees. There’d be some serious worth to it if not for the logistical difficulties. The bewildered turns to horrified. “You couldn’t, you’d never get anybody back alive without years of road-making … ” and the honourable Gerefan subsides. Subsides, and then the confused look, the confused looks of the other other eight, all firm up together. Anybody at all from Reems, come by stealth over the Northern Hills, is an invasion.
I do love when the protagonist gets to win at conversation (subtype: successful explanation). It’s not a useful mindset but it is very satisfying.
Rust smiles like a caricature of avarice, into faces going half-slack with outright fear now, under their crowns of butterflies.
Glad someone’s having fun.
Somewhere in the focus, there’s a mutter with not dying dry in it. “Farewell”, says Rust, and ten of the men of Reems sag in the grip of the standard.
Incoherent thoughts about (un)common decency vs the ends justifying the means. The journey is also the point.
Blossom’s battery isn’t officially a unit; they don’t have a battery banner, and they don’t have even a theoretical artillery battalion standard of their own. So the crews are latching to the tubes, and those are latching to Blossom, and Blossom’s latching to the standard. That shouldn’t work, but I’m giving up on “shouldn’t” this summer. The individual artillery teams can latch directly to the standard if they want to, we tested that, they’re just happier treating their commander idolatrously.
Nothing unusual going on here, nope. Are these guys Creeks, or did they come with Blossom? Experimental battery implies guys who volunteered to do science, but there’s been no mention of social friction at all.
Grudging agreement, and a few hopeful thoughts about eel-trees. I have to smile.
First-read me didn’t know how bad weeds were and now every time I see one mentioned a ping goes off in my head.
If I didn’t get to die with the best company I could have had, I could have done worse than the company I look to get.
I do love how the Captain is so calm about it. No hesitation, no courage, just, this is the job I signed up for and it needs doing.
I’ve been trying to find songs and poems for characters, and this one matches The March North okay. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/57431/for-all-we-have-and-are

Exalted Art Challenge Week 3!
I didn't have a fun name this time, sue me.
I had an initial plan that… Rapidly got out of hand. So I decided to convert my favorite Lunar charm from 3e to Essence! Technically, Dreaming Wisdom Revelation IS already in the game, but I think the charm it's an upgrade to… Probably shouldn't be a charm. Plus, the 3e version is cool as hell. After that, we have a combo of the coolest pair of 3e Dragonblooded charms, Terrifying Forest-Devil Mask and Hundred-Devil Masquerade (from Heirs to the Shogunate) rolled into one. And then… Some charms inspired by my favorite sequence early in Kill Six Billion Demons. Hey, nothing about the prompt said it had to be my favorite charms that were ALREADY in Exalted! I think I might like designing charms even more than I like playing.
Dreaming Wisdom Revelation Prerequisite: Lunar, Force 4 or Fortitude 4 With an altered state of consciousness, the Lunar's mind opens, revealing truths unseen. Spend 1 mote while spending a scene traversing the Wyld, interpreting dreams, imbibing psychedelics, or similar. The Lunar makes a Sagacity roll and banks any successes as foresight points. For the duration of the story, she may spend foresight points on the following effects reflexively. 1 Point: Perform a Dramatic Edit, as if you spent a pair of Stunt Dice, once per scene. 1 Point: Add a success to a Gather Will roll. 3 Points: Once per session, introduce a fact about the setting as a whole. (If you haven't read the 3rd edition rules on introduce fact, this is basically just that. Any fact that's reasonable to know, given the character's mind-opening experience, and that does not directly contradict information that you already have as canon (openly or otherwise) is reasonable to introduce.) 3 Points: Add +2 Resolve for the duration of a scene. 5 Points: Retroactively make a Sagacity roll to diagnose a disease or understand the wants of a spirit. Two excess successes allow you to have already procured the cure or an offering for the spirit. This charm can only be used once per story.
Forest-Devil Masquerade Prerequisite: Dragonblooded, Essence 2, Crafts 5 or Stealth 5 Some of the Princes of the Earth can never be content with just one face. Those who refuse to limit themselves may don a thousand different masks. Commit one mote for a day when donning a specially prepared mask. Each mask prepared this way is tied to a character, be it an archetypal role or fictitious character, such as an Immaculate Dragon, a legendary general, or a figure the exalt herself invented. The mask counts as exceptional equipment to disguise yourself as this role, though not as any other individual. While wearing this mask, she gains a major intimacy or virtue representing this character, such as "steal from those who do not deserve their wealth," or "I will drive the lunar anathema from my home." Anyone who fails to see through her disguise is treated as having a minor tie appropriate to the Dragonblooded as though she were her character. Additionally, the exalt may attune herself to a single mask, building its power until it gains a legend of its own. The mask can accrue mystique points, up to 50, whenever she does one of the following, once per session each. -1 point: When she upholds the intimacy granted by this mask. -1 point: When another character gains or upholds a major intimacy tied to the role embodied by the mask. -3 points: When the Dragonblooded completes a minor, exalt, or personal milestone that exemplifies the role of the mask. -5 points: When she completes a major milestone that upholds the virtue of the mask. -Variable points: When she defeats a powerful enemy in a method that aligns with the mask, she may gain the enemy's essence in points of mystique. When the mask reaches 50 mystique points, she may spend a personal or exalt milestone to have it become a secondary artifact, immediately unlocking its first evocation. If she wishes to unlock resonance powers, she may inlay the mask with jade, which does not require a roll, so long as she has a ready source. She may only be attuned to one mask at a time, but may begin attunement to a new one as soon as the previous is made into an artifact.
Sobriquet Sundering Victory Prerequisite: Infernal, Essence 2, Performance 4 The challenge issued, the song sung, the liquor drunk, and the name stolen. Spend 1 mote when a formal challenge the exalt issues is accepted. During the contest, the exalt gains two bonus dice any time she cheats or otherwise uses underhanded tactics to win. Whatever the other terms set, the victor may also rename the defeated, issuing a humiliating, debilitating sobriquet. Until the loser of the challenge can prove the name false, either by forging a new title for himself or by overcoming the insult through great deeds, any of their enemies may invoke it, once per scene, to double the benefit of a stunt against them, so long as the action works in keeping with their new name. (For example, gaining benefit in combat against someone renamed to "A Single Drop of Blood Spells my Humiliating Demise" or in a debate against "The Stammering Fool Who's Words Fall Upon Deaf Ears.")
Rite of Masking Prerequisite: Chosen of Xaos, Crafts 4 or Sagacity 4 Burning a brand onto their victim's face, the Chosen conjures a mask that binds the victim as something less. Spend 1 mote when the Chosen would inflict a dramatic injury, or when the victim of an attack would be killed. This charm may be used when a victim has surrendered, to offer them the choice between this masking or death. This inflicts a dramatic injury, from which the victim suffers a penalty on all derived traits equal to his essence, minimum one, and has his face covered by a hideous mask. Without powerful magical healing (requiring a charm or other ability that can heal fae curses), any time the victim breaks a promise or oath, the injury resurfaces and worsens, first penalizing all rolls in addition to derived traits, then penalizing his health (starting with -0 boxes), and finally making his location known to the Chosen.
(Sobriquet Sundering Victory and Rite of Masking are both inspired by the drinking contest scene in Kill Six Billion Demons. If you haven't read it, it's really cool, I highly recommend it. I was initially thinking Abyssal for SSV, but my girlfriend talked me into making it an Infernal charm instead. The Chosen of Xaos is my own personal exigent. She's got lots of weird wyld themed powers, and I figured something inspired by the cool mask thing Allison does at the end of the drinking contest scene is right up her alley. That said, I'd probably make her as a Summer or Autumn caste Getimian if I was going to put her in Exalted.)

Sonic Quilford AU Stuff 7, because of course we need to hit Emerald number
Surge's theme is "Who I Am" by Magna-Fi. Yes, this is the song that was going to be the main theme of Shadow The Hedgehog before getting cut and replaced by Crush 40's "I Am All Of Me". With all the comparisons one can make between Shadow's amnesia arc and Surge and Kit, I think it fits. I haven't any idea what Kit's lyrical theme would be though
Tails and Marine, despite considering themselves and going as a fox and a raccoon respectively, are both mythical creatures(kitsune and tanuki). The only other mythical Faunan Sonic's encountered is Vector, who has dragonblood somewhere back in his linage
Mythical Faunans end up being born to their regular counterparts quite rarely, with about 1/741,500
Sonic and Blaze's birthdays are 3 days short of being exactly 6 months apart, with Sonic's on June 23rd, and Blaze's on December 20th
After the events of Unleashed, Sonic decided to bring Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Cream, Vanilla, Big, Ray, and Mighty all to Emerald Coast in Station Square for a 4-day vacation, wearing Chip's necklace the whole time
After the events of ShTH and being violently reminded of Maria's death, Shadow ended up developing schizophrenia
After Forces, two of the people to visit The Resistance were Florence and Abaddon Prower. Upon realizing just who was there, Sonic tried to usher his little brother out of there, only to be shocked as the 10yo kitsune stepped right up to his parents, talking to them in his overly-sweet voice, making sure to fiddle with his mints while doing so. As they tried to accost the people watching that this thing(they refused to call Tails their son, or anything remotely kind) was going to ruin their lives, Tails asked why they were the first two people to make him hate his real first name. As everyone stewed on that, Vanilla slapped one of them and demanded they leave. The crew has decided that if they ever encounter the older Prowers again, to treat them with utter apathy unless more is going on
Faunans don't really need to wear clothes, thus marking them as more fancy attire when in communities all their own. As such, Sonic considers Amy, Honey, Rouge, Cream, Blaze, and even Wave and Surge overdressed for fighting evil or extreme gear races
The names for the little animals(Flicky, Pocky, Beary, Locky, Micky, ect) are used by Faunans, to distinguish them from Faunans. Humans use both interchangeably, so they'd call a Flicky a chickadee just as much as a Faunan Chickadee

Ruai was going to just be a rogue but there was the siren call of the scales you get with dragonblooded sorcerer so, uh, yeah trying rogue/sorcerer multiclass. Got the 1 level of sorc, going to put in the 4 levels of rogue, and then probably more sorc? Eh IDK, but I like how she looks and she is not completely useless!

Glossary & Character List (as of Chapter 12)
Part One: Ice & Fire - The Ballad of Wolves & Dragons
Prologue: The Death of The Dragons / The Birth of The Wolves
Word Count: 6K
Summary: The origins of the kingdom of Nymeria and the fall of the Valyrian race. The circumstances that lead up to the meeting between dragon and prince. The world Eren and Yuuta live in is unjust and cruel, but it’s a world they both must face if they are to survive.
Chapter 1: The Meaning of Legend
Word Count: 7K
Summary: It's been three years since the attack that killed all of the Valyrians. The last dragonblood, Eren Jaeger, has been surviving on the island by his own strengths, alone and wondering what the rest of the world is like beyond the shores of Valyria. But knowing what the outsiders did to his home, he fears them. That is, until he meets the prince of Nymeria, who's kindness outweighs whatever preconceived notions Eren had about the outsiders.
Chapter 2: The Dragon's Treasures
Word Count: 5K
Summary: Several days have passed since Yuuta's landing on the shores of Valyria. Despite not trusting him initially, Eren slowly accepts Yuuta's kind gestures, finding comfort in his new friend.
Chapter 3: The Son of The Usurper
Word Count: 6K
Summary: Eren learns about Yuuta’s past and the land from which he came from. Eren’s surprised to find that the kind-hearted boy he’s come to know has suffered loss, too. Perhaps it is fate that brought them together, they ponder, as they mend each other’s hearts.
Chapter 4: The Black Dread
Word Count: 13K
Summary: Eren tells Yuuta the legend about the origins of Valyria and the bond between Valyria’s first dragon and his rider. While Eren believes it all to be a bedtime story, two years later they come to find that perhaps there is some truth to the legend of the Black Dread.
Chapter 5: The Kiss of Fate
Word Count: 10K (NSFW)
Summary: After Yuuta’s admitted he has feelings for Eren, Eren is able to be confident with his own feelings that he’s been hiding away. Weeks of shy touches and tentative kisses between the two lead up to a night where they can’t hold back their feelings anymore. Months later, now that he’s practically mastered flying, Eren asks Yuuta to try coming along with him.
Chapter 6: The Sun and The Stars
Word Count: 7K (NSFW)
Summary: Eren and Yuuta spend the night of Tanabata together under the stars as Yuuta teaches him the legend of the star-crossed lovers, Tanabata and Kengyu. But their happiness on the island comes to a sudden end once Yuuta is painfully reminded that his duty is to his homeland, and that as much as he wants to, he cannot stay on Valyria forever.
Chapter 7: The End of The Beginning
Word Count: 13K (NSFW)
Summary: Before their departure, Eren and Yuuta travel to a sacred place on the island, to proclaim a vow before the Gods. In any other life, they would’ve regarded this as the happiest they’ve ever felt. But the dread of what’s to come once they leave their sanctuary lingers overhead like a dark cloud.
Chapter 8: The Sworn Protector
Word Count: 12K
Summary: Back in the kingdom of Nymeria, the only remaining child of the Emperor, Princess Rika Orimoto, has turned of age. The royal council convenes, deciding to call her back from her family abroad to claim her status as heir to the throne and be crowned princess. Her childhood best friend, the recently knighted Megumi Fushiguro, eagerly awaits her arrival.
Chapter 9: The Prince Returns
Word Count: 9K
Summary: Plans are in motion to crown Princess Rika as Nymeria's next heir. It has been a few months since her arrival back to the palace, and in that time she has met many suitors but none have offered her their hand. Just as Rika begins to worry about the possibility of having to marry the arrogant Prince Junpei of Parryn and becoming the crowned princess, the unfathomable occurs: Yuuta returns home, more than six years after his disappearance. And he's... on the back of a dragon?!
Chapter 10: The Six-Eyed Mage
Word Count: 13K (NSFW)
Summary: Yuuta faces his father for the first time after that night he witnessed his father kill his mother. Despite mixed feelings, he vows that he will find a way to have his father healed from the curse that afflicts him. With Megumi as his guide, he travels to Archmage Gojo's estate, searching for any answers about his father's curse and the dragon-rider bond he shares with Eren.
Chapter 11: The Council of Seven
Word Count: 14K (NSFW)
Summary: The Nymerian council holds its first meeting to determine what to do with Eren and Yuuta now that they’ve arrived in Nymeria. Though the council is apprehensive about Eren, Gojo offers a solution that seems promising. The council also discusses a pressing matter: Yuuta’s coronation and eventual betrothal.
Chapter 12: The Illusion of Love
Word Count: 10K
Summary: Eren finds himself surrounded by many who all have contrasting opinions on what 'love' means to them. Yet, it's what they all earnestly wish to have. Meanwhile, the King receives a visit from his Lord Commander.
Chapter 13: The Dragon Rider’s Blood
Word Count: TBD (NSFW)
Summary: Eren and Yuuta pay a visit to the Archmage in order to seek more information about the “talisman” which Gojo intended to create for them. Later, with just a few weeks before Yuuta’s coronation, the pair are busier than ever, and the time they get to spend together becomes few and far between—leading their late night trysts to become more… adventurous.

1. Cube V1,
2 Chemicloe with cubic hair she kinda reps Black Pudding.
3 Grey ooze basically mercury, especially corrosive to metals
4, Gel Cube V2, as the most solid and grapply of the amorphous monsters I gave her six arms and a wrestler build
5. Slithering Tracker, basically angry living water
6 Oroche Jelly, it’s special feature is splitting into more when cut
7 dragonblood ooze, a slime with a BREATH ATTACK!!!

A dragon's heart, part 15.
Pairing: Barbarian!Bakugou Katsuki x female!reader
Summary: The dragonblood tribe is known for being cruel, barbarian warriors that slaughter, loot and rape all places they pass through. They are feared among the villagers and even bigger cities. Having lost most of their women to a plague, they're trying to ensure their tribe's survival by kidnapping women from other places. However, they're not the only monsters in human form out there. When y/n experiences this first hand, she has no choice but to ask for help from no other but the barbarian leader Katsuki Bakugou himself.
Disclaimer: mentions of mate marks, trust issues

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Carefully, y/n traces the soft pink skin on her neck. She wishes she had a mirror and looks at the scar that Katsuki left behind. She presses her lips together. Right now, she's sitting in the tub washing off the grime and sickness of the past week. Ever since waking up, Katsuki has been uncharacteristically attentive and careful around y/n.
Part of y/n still wants to be angry with Katsuki but she finds it hard to be harsh towards him when he lingers around her like a shy dog who got punished by its owner. She notices how he tries to keep his hands on himself. Only late at night can she feel him touching her gently when he thinks she's already deep asleep.
There's a rustle from the curtain that marks the doorway back into the tent. Katsuki enters the bath hut without announcing himself. Quickly, y/n tries to cover up herself with her arms.
“Nothin' I haven't seen yet, doll.”, Katsuki comments dryly.
It sours his mood that y/n is clearly uncomfortable with him seeing her naked. He thought that after the marking, she'd feel more relaxed and secure around him, but clearly, that's not the case. Instead of strengthening their relationship, the marking pushed them back. Y/n doesn't seem to trust him like before.
He strides over to the tub and holds out some fresh linen for y/n. Hesitantly, y/n takes the cloth and gestures for Katsuki to turn around.
Katsuki turns around in defeat. He tries to suppress the feeling of annoyance rising within him. He promised to take care of y/n, but he also wants them to be happy, preferably together. This also means gaining her trust again and making her see that there's nothing for her to fear.
He hears how y/n gets up and dries herself with the linen. When he turns around, he helps y/n get out of the tub by extending an arm to her.
Y/n waddles into the tent leaving wet footprints behind her. Katsuki watches for a moment how the footprints start to fade before following her.
Maybe I should get her some slippers. The floor must be cold, Katsuki thinks.
When he enters the tent, he sees y/n wrapped in the linen on the bed brushing her hair with her fingers.
She might need a hairbrush for that long-ass hair, too, he ponders.
Y/n looks up and meets his eyes.
“Are there any fresh clothes?”, she asks him and points towards the pile of old clothes on the floor.
Katsuki understands and pulls out a dress he asked one of the older women to make for y/n. He picked the color red to match his eyes and Drami's scales.
Y/n pulls a face. The dress Katsuki is presenting to her is way too revealing. Not in a I-don't-like-showing-off-what-I've-got way but in a it's-way-too-cold-for-that way. Y/n shakes her head disapprovingly. She doesn't fail to notice the disappointed look at Katsuki's face.
“I can't wear that. I'm gonna be sick. Again. Do you want that?”, she tells Katsuki.
Y/n hops off the bed and strides towards Katsuki's closet and starts pulling out more suitable clothes. Katsuki watches her with a scowl. While he finds it endearing that y/n keeps wearing his clothes, he's a bit disappointed that she refuses the dress he had made for her.
When y/n has found everything she needs, she gestures for Katsuki to turn around again. Katsuki sighs and drops the dress on the bed. Adverting his gaze, he starts peeling an apple.
He hears the rustling of clothes. He looks up again when he feels a dip in the bed. Y/n sits there bundled up in way too many layers of his clothes. Katsuki thinks she looks like a drowned rat in it. None of her attractive features are visible in the baggy clothes she's wearing. For a moment, he wonders if that's how her people dress their women but then he remembers the dress she wore when they first met. Actually, where did that dress go? He should keep an eye out for it.
Katsuki sighs and hands y/n the peeled apple slices he cut for her. Y/n happily grabs the plate and starts munching on one of the apple slices.
Katsuki, you in there?”, he hears Kirishima call from outside the tent.
“Yes, what do you want?”, he calls back grumpily.
After a short moment of silence, Kirishima calls: “Can I come in or are you indecent?”.
Katsuki can feel the blood rising to his face as he gets up from the bed.
“Shut up shitty-face! Come in and tell me what you want!”, he yells back.
Swiftly, Kirishima enters the tent. His eyes fall onto y/n who gives him a small wave.
“The missus is happy, it seems?”, he asks his friend and leader who only gives him a low grumble in return. Kirishima sighs and shakes his head.
“Look, I know you're the leader and everything but let me give you some advice: Spending time with the mate is all good and well. Y/n having a baby would sure be good news to the tribe, but...”, Kirishima starts and Katsuki throws a mean glace his way.
“... but you also should show your face around the settlement. People are starting to question where their boss is.”, Kirishima finishes.
“What are you telling me, Kirishima? That I'm neglecting my role as chief?”, Katsuki barks back.
Kirishima gives him a blank look.
“Yes, Katsuki, that's what I'm saying.”, he answers his friend. Katsuki growls at that and turns around to y/n who almost finished her apple.
“The men talk.”, Kirishima informs him.
“They always do. What do I care about?”, Katsuki answers.
“They talk about you. That you neglect your duties. That this foreign woman bewitched you. That the course we're steering isn't for the good of the people.”, Kirishima says carefully.
“What course?”, Katsuki snaps at him. Kirishima holds his sharp gaze.
“They say that you're in over your head. They think you're afraid and therefore you restrict the tribe's movements. Some even express that the plan of focusing on women probably won't work considering that your own mate almost passed.”, Kirishima explains matter-of-factly.
At that, Katsuki grinds his teeth. Kirishima is loyal, so he's sure the man is telling the truth. But who do these men think they are? They've never led a whole tribe, let alone trying to save one from extinction.
“Fine”, Katsuki says, “Then let's give them something real to talk about.”
~*~*~*~
Y/n watches Katsuki put on his armor. He's been on edge all morning and she doesn't dare to question him about what's going on. He won't understand anyway which will probably put him into an even more sore mood.
Suddenly, Mitsuki enters the tent. She's holding a bowl with a blue paste inside.
“You're a fool.”, she tells his son.
“What?”, he snaps at her while sitting down at the edge of the bed securing a dagger to his side.
“You can't tell me that you think this is a good idea.”, she says but Katsuki only scoffs.
“I'm sure you heard what they say. They start to think I'm an unfit leader. I guess it's time to remind them why I've become their leader in the first place.”, he tells her as he gestures for his mother to
come closer.
Mitsuki only sighs and looks disapprovingly at her son. Then, she steps closer and starts painting stripes and other patterns onto his face and body. Y/n watches intently. She notices that the patterns are different than the ones that were put onto her when she was shown off to the tribe.
“You know I shouldn't be doing this.”, Mitsuki comments.
Katsuki doesn't answer.
“Painting you for war is your mate's task.”, she tells him and Katsuki scoffs again.
“She'll learn in time.”, he replies.
Mitsuki throws a glance at y/n.
“If you say so.”
~*~*~*~
After Mitsuki finishes painting Katsuki's body, she leaves the tent. Katsuki takes a moment to ready himself. Once they leave the tent, it will be all high energy until he returns.
He turns to y/n who is watching him intently. When he doesn't say anything, she tilts her head
questioningly.
Katsuki pats her head and gets up. He grabs his sword and secures it to his belt.
Suddenly, they hear drums outside of the tent.
“The drums of war are calling us.”, Katsuki tells y/n, “Time for us to go.”
He gestures for y/n to get up and follow him outside. Y/n does so without complaining.
Outside, it seems as if the whole tribe is on the street. Y/n sees all men wearing similar paint on their faces as Katsuki. Also, they're all heavily armed.
Y/n looks around alarmed. What's going on? Are they being attacked?
Suddenly she spots Kirishima in the crowd. He's wearing a dim expression. Kirishima makes his way over to Katsuki and y/n.
Y/n oggles at the swirling red patterns that were drawn around Kirishima's armor. Katsuki elbows her roughly and she quickly adverts her gaze.
When Kirishima reaches them, he only says: “You're a fool, Katsuki.”
“Yeah, I've been told so today already.”, Katsuki grumbles.
“I'm not sure if organizing a raid in Todoroki territory is a smart way of securing the loyalty of your subjects.”, Kirishima points out.
“They need to be reminded that I can easily kill them if I have to. The best way of reminding them is to wring a few necks of Todoroki soldiers.”, Katsuki tells him.
Kirishima gives him a long stare.
“I'm sure that's the best way to make your men believe in your leadership skills.”, Kirishima says sarcastically.
A blonde man passes them and gives Katsuki a clap on the back. Y/n remembers that she had seen him before on the day that they arrived at the settlement.
“We're gonna blast these suckers!”, the man whoops and disappears in the crowd again.
“Denki seems to agree.”, Katsuki notes and Kirishima sighs.
“Denki's an idiot. He'd pick a fight with a bear naked and still think he could win.”, Kirishima complains, but Katsuki only shrugs.
“Do you really think we'll have to fight Todoroki soldiers?”, he asks his chief. Katsuki nods.
“Considering the scouts report and the rising military presence even in the outskirts of the kingdom, we need to be prepared to fight trained soldiers with swords instead of scared farmers with pitchforks.”, Katsuki points out.
Now it's Kirishima's turn to sigh.
“Well, your plan for this raid better be good. I'd really hate to die because our chief's a fool.”, Kirishima replies and starts walking. Katsuki gestures y/n to follow him.
Y/n notes how the entire tribe is walking in the same direction. She didn't know that many people lived in the settlement. There are mostly men and some elderly people. However, she also spots some women here and there. When she tries to smile at them, they quickly avert their gaze.
Katsuki tucks at her arm and pulls her forward. Only then she notices where they are going. Towards the gorge where the dragons live.
The dragons are lined up infront of the gorge. Y/n spots Katsuki's dragon almost immediately. The red one is a lot bigger than all the other dragons, even the mean-looking black ones. At least the green one's not here, y/n thinks and shudders.
She watches as some of the men say goodbye to their loved ones and then heave themselves up on their dragons. She sees a man kissing a woman who looks just out of place like herself. She doesn't seem to enjoy the kiss.
“Y/n”, she hears Katsuki say and she turns to him.
Katsuki is staring sternly in the dragon's direction before turning around to meet her gaze.
“I'll bring glory to you and our tribe.”, he tells her. He doesn't know why he does. It's not like she'd get it.
Softly, he traces the side of her face. Y/n looks up to him with big eyes. He grips her hips and pulls her hips against his.
“I'll come back to ya.”, he promises while running his hand through her hair. Y/n steadies her stance by putting her hands on his chest. Katsuki runs his hand up and down her back before placing it in her hair again. Slowly, he pulls her face towards his and kisses her deeply. Y/n's frozen for a moment, but then she kisses him back carefully.
Eventually, Katsuki pulls back. He places a last kiss on her forehead. Y/n watches Katsuki striding over to his dragon and mounting it. The men cheer.
With a mighty gust of wind, Katsuki and his dragon rise to the sky. Y/n watches as the men follow him. The swarm of dragons set off east and the drums are pounded until the dragons look like tiny ants in the sky.
Y/n turns around and watches the remaining people retreat to the settlement. She's a bit unsure what to do next. Most likely, she can return to Katsuki's tent. But then what? Katsuki and Kirishima are gone and it's not like Nadia will be of any help. Speaking of which, y/n hasn't seen Nadia around anywhere. Did she not come to send off her husband? Probably not, y/n concludes.
Suddenly, a cold, strong hand wraps itself around her arm. Y/n whips her head upwards and is met with a pair of ruby eyes. For a moment, she thinks that Katsuki has returned for her. Of course, that's not the case. It's the woman that Katsuki argued with.
Great, y/n thinks, from all the people helping me out, it just has to be her.
Mitsuki yanks her arm and y/n stumbles after her. They walk back into the settlement in silence.
Mitsuki takes her back to her tent. Inside, her ladies-in-waiting are working on a variety of tasks. Mitsuki points her toward an ancient-looking woman who is sewing. Y/n walks over timidly and the old woman pats at a cushion beside her while talking. Obviously, y/n doesn't understand her but when she hands y/n a torn shirt, a needle and yarn, y/n understands that she wants her to help sewing.
Y/n isn't a great seamstress but she's repaired enough clothes to know what she's doing. Her family never had much money, so she's used to repairing things over and over again. Also, it's kind of a meditative task.
For the next few hours, y/n keeps sewing one clothing piece after another while listening to the chattering of the old woman. She has no clue what the woman is going on about, but she doesn't seem to be unsatisfied with y/n work. Maybe she's just trying to make conversation, y/n thinks. Y/n decides that she likes the old woman.
Eventually, the pile of clothes that needed mending is worked through. The old woman puts the clothes into a basket and with a few words to y/n, she's walking outside the tent. For a moment, y/n thinks about following her. However, the woman gave no indication that y/n should follow her.
Maybe I was just supposed to help out with the clothes, y/n thinks. She turns around looking for Mitsuki. Maybe the woman has a new task for y/n, but the woman cannot be found anywhere. None of the other women are paying attention to y/n, so y/n takes a moment to observe them.
There are two older women peeling potatoes. The women are engrossed in a loud conversation. A young girl is sitting next to them cutting the peeled potatoes into thinner slices. She looks timid and doesn't chirp into the older women's conversation.
Best not to bug these two, y/n decides.
On the other side of the tent, there are two other women around Mitsuki's age, sharpening knives. The one with the blonde hair and the black streaks looks kind of brutish. Y/n contemplates approaching them since her father showed her how to sharpen knives before. Before she can decide against it, she forces herself to approach the women.
The women look up when y/n approaches them. They ask her something but y/n doesn't know how to respond, so she only points at the knives. The women exchange a glance but then make some space for y/n. The woman with the blonde hair starts showing y/n how to sharpen the knife, but y/n already knows the procedure, so she simply takes one of the knives and starts sharpening it. The women watch her for a good minute before deciding that y/n doesn't need any help.
The three of them work in silence which y/n appreciates after the old woman has talked her ear off. Also sharpening knives is a more demanding task than mending clothes. Y/n has to concentrate so that she won't slip and cut herself.
She's so deep in concentration that she doesn't notice Mitsuki entering the tent again and approaching them.
Y/n continues her work and when she thinks the knife is sharp enough, she lifts it against the light to inspect the edge of it. When she lets down the knife again, she notices Mitsuki standing next to her.
A shiver runs down her spine. Gods damn it! How did I not notice her?, y/n thinks.
Mitsuki takes the knife from her and inspects it. The other two women and y/n watch her intently. Eventually, Mitsuki lowers the knife and nods. The blonde woman claps her back. Mitsuki barks an order towards the women and they go back to work. Mitsuki swirls around and leaves the tent again.
I guess that's as much approval as I will get from her, y/n thinks taking the next knife.

dumb question. but do you think dany is the stallion who mounts the world?
Hi there!
That’s not a dumb question. :)
Also, yes. Absolutely. Along with the other savior-related prophecies. The Prince that was Promised, Azor Ahai, etc...
Specifically, it is Dany in combination with Drogon.
Dany eats the horse heart and the dosh khaleen make their prophecy, but like all seers and priests, they are fallible, and prone to misinterpretation, due to the sexist bias in their culture.
“Khalakka dothrae mr’anha!” she proclaimed in her best Dothraki. A prince rides inside me! She had practiced the phrase for days with her handmaid Jhiqui. (AGOT, Daenerys V)
Since the ceremony and everyone’s expectations are pointed at the expected son (assumed son, never a daughter!) their visions are ascribed to this innocent fetus. Rhaego, as we later learn, was never going to be that. He fits perfectly into the Targaryen pattern of dragonblood-related, malformed stillbirths.
So who else would it be, who is prophecied to be this prince:
“As swift as the wind he rides, and behind him his khalasar covers the earth, men without number, with arakhs shining in their hands like blades of razor grass. Fierce as a storm this prince will be. His enemies will tremble before him, and their wives will weep tears of blood and rend their flesh in grief. The bells in his hair will sing his coming, and the milk men in the stone tents will fear his name.” The old woman trembled and looked at Dany almost as if she were afraid. “The prince is riding, and he shall be the stallion who mounts the world.”
Let’s look what applies.
1) Swift as the wind...
The silver horse leapt the flames as if she had wings.
When she pulled up before Magister Illyrio, she said, "Tell Khal Drogo that he has given me the wind." (AGOT, Daenerys II)
But also...
The horses broke and ran when the shadow fell upon them, racing through the grass until their sides were white with foam, tearing the ground with their hooves … but as swift as they were, they could not fly. Soon one horse began to lag behind the others. The dragon descended on him, roaring, and all at once the poor beast was aflame, yet somehow he kept on running, screaming with every step, until Drogon landed on him and broke his back. (ADWD, Daenerys X)
2) Fierce as a storm…
"And I am Daenerys Stormborn, Daenerys of House Targaryen, of the blood of Aegon the Conqueror and Maegor the Cruel and old Valyria before them. I am the dragon's daughter, and I swear to you, these men will die screaming. Now bring me to Khal Drogo." (AGOT, Daenerys IX)
3) Enemies will tremble… Her perceived enemies at the point of that prophecy are the Robert and Ned and the Lannisters.
"Your Grace, I never knew you to fear Rhaegar." Ned fought to keep the scorn out of his voice, and failed. "Have the years so unmanned you that you tremble at the shadow of an unborn child?" (AGOT, Eddard VIII)
Ironically, Rhaego is not that unborn child. The “Shadow” is another. When Dany rides Drogon, she has completed her transformation into the Stallion.
"It were the black one," the man said, in a Ghiscari growl, "the winged shadow. He come down from the sky and … and …" (ADWD, Daenerys I)
4) Their wives weep tears of blood and rend their flesh...
The tears burned like vinegar as they ran down her cheeks. Ten fierce ravens were raking her face with sharp talons and tearing off strips of flesh, leaving deep furrows that ran red with blood. She could taste it on her lips. (ASOS, Catelyn VII)
I have no doubt that more will tremble and weep blood before long.
5) Bells in their hair….
That was Drogon's victory, not mine, Dany wanted to say, but she held her tongue. The Dothraki would esteem her all the more for a few bells in her hair. She chimed as she mounted her silver mare, and again with every stride, but neither Ser Jorah nor her bloodriders made mention of it.
(ACOK, Daenerys V)
6) Milk men in stone tents will fear her name...
"On that we can agree," Ser Kevan said, "but the girl is of the blood of Aegon the Conqueror, and I do not think she will be content to remain in Meereen forever. If she should reach these shores and join her strength to Lord Connington and this prince of his, feigned or no … we must destroy Connington and his pretender now, before Daenerys Stormborn can come west." (ADWD, Epilogue)
and..
"She is the Mad King's daughter," the princess said. "How do we do know--"
"We cannot know," Ser Daemon said. "We can only hope."
(TWOW, Arianne I)
7) The prince is riding.
As Dany rode beneath the arched entry and up the center aisle, every eye was on her. The Dothraki screamed out comments on her belly and her breasts, hailing the life within her. She could not understand all they shouted, but one phrase came clear. "The stallion that mounts the world," she heard, bellowed in a thousand voices.
They are screaming about Rhaego but they are looking at her as she rides.
So the Dany = Stallion = Prince (that was promised) = Azor Ahai.
“We must act boldly, or all hope is lost. Westeros must unite beneath her one true king, the prince that was promised, Lord of Dragonstone and chosen of R'hllor." (ASOS, Davos IV)
Chosen by the god of burning people alive.
And finally Maester Aemon ties it up:
"No one ever looked for a girl," he said. "It was a prince that was promised, not a princess. Rhaegar, I thought . . . the smoke was from the fire that devoured Summerhall on the day of his birth, the salt from the tears shed for those who died. He shared my belief when he was young, but later he became persuaded that it was his own son who fulfilled the prophecy, for a comet had been seen above King's Landing on the night Aegon was conceived, and Rhaegar was certain the bleeding star had to be a comet. What fools we were, who thought ourselves so wise! The error crept in from the translation. Dragons are neither male nor female, Barth saw the truth of that, but now one and now the other, as changeable as flame. The language misled us all for a thousand years. Daenerys is the one, born amidst salt and smoke. The dragons prove it."
(AFFC, Samwell IV)
Ironically, he is still utterly wrong in his assumption that this prince will be a force of good. Quite the opposite.
