The Secret of the Scooby Snack

So currently trying to make real scooby snacks because that's the kind of person I am, plus culinary mad science is fun

Things we know about Scooby Snacks:

They're safe for dogs to eat

They taste good enough that humans, or at least Shaggy, can also enjoy them

Things we can speculate about Scooby snacks:

The taste, the creator always imagined them tasting like caramel but never stated that in the actual show. Sugar isn't exactly great for dogs to regularly eat so actual caramel probably wouldn't be practical

So for a fairly basic homemade dog treat 1/4c peanut butter(without xylitol) 2/3c apple sauce, 2 eggs, and 2c whole wheat flour combined rolled thin, about a 1/4 inch, cut into desired shape and baked at 350F for approximately 15 minutes and allowed to cool

so for a dog, that's pretty darn good, but a bit bland for people, so we'd want to add flavor while still making it safe for dogs

sweetener, minimal amount since this still is primarily for dogs, just human friendly. Something in the ballpark of caramel might be maple syrup or molasses, so a tablespoon of one of those or honey added to the above recipe

cinnamon in reasonable quantities is also okay for dogs, so some cinnamon would push it more into cookie territory so maybe a 1/2 teaspoon

HOWEVER

if we look at a Pup Named Scooby Doo, more specifically the episode "Wanted, Cheddar Alive", we see a variety of savory flavored Scooby Snacks ranging from Bacon & Eggs to Creamy Garlic. Now, some of those would be interesting to recreate for human consumption, a number of the snacks listed in the episode would make dogs sick, especially the chocolate. On top of this the series seems to exist outside of the timeline of most other scooby doo series

but, theoretically if you wanted to make a savory scooby snack

3c whole wheat flour, 2 large eggs, 2/3c water, and 1c shredded cheddar cheese mixed and kneaded together, rolled out 1/2inch thick and cut into desired shape before being placed on a baking sheet and baked at 350F for 20-25 minutes and cooled before serving

again, dogs would probably love this, but by human standards it's going to be a bit bland. A human equivalent would have more salt than just what's in the cheese, think cheez-its or those Red lobster cheddar biscuits

Overall took me i think 5 hours more or less.

Materials:

30mm eva foam dowel rod (1 and a scrap bit)

Pipe cleaners

Thin wire and wire cutters

Hot glue and glue gun

Brown crepe paper (roll not ribbon)

Card stock (i cut up some junk mail)

Construction paper

Craft foam

Duct tape

Mop/broom handle

Scissors

Regular glue

Tiny bit of electrical tape

Had a 30mm eva dowel rod with a channel cut down the length from when i tried to use it for frieren’s staff. Hot glued some pipe cleaners inside the channel to get it to hold a curve, and then wrapped it in some floral wire also for holding the curve (tho idk if it does much)

Got some brown crepe paper and cut strips about idk 4-5 inch wide to wrap around the foam thing, leaving a bit off at the ends

Got a scrap bit of foam dowel, like 1.5-2inch, and used it to connect the ends of the loop together (stuck a wire through it to kinda sorta hold it there, but didnt work well so used duct take instead. Filled in the space with scrap craft foam)

Hey everyone,

I’m so sorry I don’t update as often as I should. As the season for a few crops of mine ends, I’m still getting blackberries, watermelon, pole beans, peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes (I have a picture of an 11lbs watermelon I harvested 3 days ago). I’ve gotta say there were lots of successes, some failures, and overall, a very educational and exciting learning experience. I grew things I didn’t think I would ever be able to grow like cantaloupe, watermelon, cucumbers, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and various trees. I’ve brought in wildlife I’ve loved like BEES!!!, ladybugs, and dragonflies, but also pests like rabbits, birds and grasshoppers (which get to be as big as 1-2inches).

The season isn’t over yet for me (and usually lasts until about mid Nov—can rarely extend into Dec) so I’m hoping to just keep our perennials going at this point since our annuals like our cucumbers, tomatoes, and melons are staring to die off. Instead of growing into Nov, I think my dad and I will focus on fixing our soil problems (it’s very clay like and rocky in my area) along with fixing our garden area for next years growing season and be a bit more organized about it.

Some of our annual flowers are starting to go but somehow, our wildflowers remain strong. Our lantana are doing well along with the periwinkle and we’ve expanded our succulents thanks to a neighbor who was going to toss them due to moving.

Overall everything is still looking good. Nothing has gone dormant yet obviously but our blueberries, grapes and melons are winding down.

Easy soup recipe! Because soup is good for both the soul and body. (As someone with a slew of health issues mental and physical that makes for hard sometimes.)

Step 1: pot of water. Doesn’t matter how much. You physically can’t mess it up. Put on med/med high heat on stove.

Step 2: beef bouillon cube (or beef ramen packet sans noodles.) 1 cube per every two or so cups, you can add more to taste if necessary.

Step 3: mushrooms! The small white ones, you can get pre sliced or slice/dice your own to preference. I like 1/2inch diced personally. Add to pot and stir.

Step 4: chives! (Green onions/scallions) optional but I like adding 2/3 full chives (chopped) to the pot.

Step 5: Season with black pepper and salt and a pinch of onion powder to taste.

Step 6: let it simmer until the mushrooms no longer float on top of the soup.

Step 7: enjoy!
