The Queen of Lies

Lowering her pen to the paper, Breanna wondered why she hadn’t ever thought of this before. Fear, perhaps. Terror that he might find out. But she asked herself again—who would tell him? She flicked her gaze from the old letter she’d found in Baden’s office to the dozens of soon-to-be-burned practice signatures to the straight line at the bottom of the page. Blank. Waiting for her forgery.

Baden took the pen and added his own signature, then wrote a final name that belonged to none of them. When the man read the document out loud, Bree found she could not move a single muscle, even as her mind screamed and screamed and screamed.
