1 Corinthians 5, Reed's Version
It’s come to my attention that you’re actually tolerating sexual sin, things not even the pagans do. I mean, one of you is sleeping with his stepmother! And what’s more, you’re proud of it! Instead you should be in anguish over it, so the man who did this would have left your church until he changes his ways. Although I’m not physically there, in the Spirit I’m present with you, and so with the authority of the lord Jesus I’ve already decided what must be done about the man who has behaved this way. The next time you gather to worship (and I too will be present by the powerful Spirit of our lord Jesus), remove this man from the church back into the realm of the Enemy. In this way, he might reform his sinful habits and his spirit be eternally rescued. Your bragging is ugly! Don’t you know that just a little leaven permeates the whole batch of dough? Just like at passover, clean out the old, contaminated leaven and be a new, unleavened batch, which is what you actually are. The sacrifice of our passover lamb, Christ, tells us to continue to keep the festival in this way: by cleaning out the old leaven of wicked and sinful deeds, and keeping ourselves unleavened, which represents authenticity and truth.
When I wrote to you previously not to associate with sexually immoral people, or with con artists or idol-worshipers, I was not referring to nonbelievers. In that case, you’d have to leave the world! No, what I mean is, don’t associate with anyone who calls themselves a brother or sister in Christ, but still engages in sexual immorality, greed, idol worship, slander, drunkenness or theft. Don’t allow such people to contaminate your fellowship meals. Why would I want to judge people outside the church? It’s only actions inside the church we’re to judge. It’s up to God to judge non-believers. As for you, “Remove the evil from your midst.”

ENEMY LOVE?
How are Christians to relate to an increasingly hostile and alien culture? Do we respond in kind, fighting for the values we hold dear, or does Christ call us to a better, more productive way?
How are Christians to relate to an increasingly hostile and alien culture? Just as I presented some historical context, let’s broaden our view a bit to gain some important Biblical context.  Up above, we saw through the example of the Old Testament, that despite being God’s chosen people, there were times when Israel disobeyed and in turn suffered calamity and banishment under the just judgment…

Always speaking the truth from a renewed heart
Today we will be looking at the core Bible principle of the Kingdom of God, and how the establishment of the Kingdom is dependent on the truthfulness of its population. This was represented by the simplest of commands among the Ten Commandments that God spoke from Sinai. Exodus 20:16 – You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. As I have mentioned many times before, when God set…

"THAT CONTAINER IS LYING ABOUT ITS CONTENTS"
Matthew 7:15, “Be on your guard against false prophets; they come to you LOOKING LIKE SHEEP on the OUTSIDE, but on the INSIDE they are really like wild WOLVES.” (GNT) My two favorite seasons are Winter and Fall! Winter, because I love Christmas, snow, carols, decorations and the like. And Fall, because I love the colors, Thanksgiving, the start of the scent of fireplaces, but most of all,…

1 Corinthians 5:11–13
My translation:
11 But now I write to you not to be mixed up with anyone named a brother if he might be a sexually immoral one or greedy or idolater or slanderer or drunkard or thief, not even to eat with such one. 12 For what is it to me to judge those outside? Do you not judge those inside? 13 But those outside God will judge. Lift out the evil one out of your very selves.
Notes:
5:11
The temporal adverb νῦν indicates that this aorist ἔγραψα (from γράφω) is an epistolary aorist (“I am now writing ...”). ὑμῖν is the indirect object of the verb. The negated present passive infinitive μὴ συναναμίγνυσθαι (from συναναμίγνυμι “I associate with”; see note on 5:9) denotes indirect discourse, and functions as the apodosis of the condition below (“If any brother ... then do not associate with them”).
ἐάν + subjunctive forms the protasis of a third-class conditional statement, in which the action is seen as possible to occur.
ὀνομάζω (9x), from τό ὄνομα, is “I name”. The present passive participle ὀνομαζόμενος is attributive with the indefinite pronoun τις (lit. “if anyone named a brother ...”). ἀδελφὸς is predicate with the participle.
The list of six substantives united by disjunctive particle ἢ (“or”) are the compound subject of ᾖ (from εἰμί) whose subject is τις above. For πόρνος (“sexually immoral person”), see note on verse 9. For πλεονέκτης (“covetous”), εἰδωλολάτρης (“idolater”) and ἅρπαξ (“robber”), see note on verse 10.
ὁ λοίδορος (2x, both in 1 Cor.) is, “reviler, abusive person” (BDAG), from λοιδορέω (4x) “I revile, verbally abuse” (cf. ἡ λοιδορία, 3x, “reviling, insult”).
ὁ μέθυσος (2x) is, “drunkard”, from μεθύω (5x) “I am drunk” (cf. μεθύκω, 5x, “I become drunk”).
συνεσθίω (5x), from σύν + ἐσθίω is, “I eat with”. The present infinitive συνεσθίειν is another infinitive of indirect discourse after ἔγραψα above. The prohibition might have referred to fellowship meals, not private dining (Fee). The articular demonstrative pronoun τῷ τοιούτῳ (“with such a man”) is substantival and a dative of association with the συν- prefixed verb. μηδὲ is, “not even”, implying that the prohibition extended to other activities as well.
5:12
The interrogative pronoun τί is the subject of an implied ἐστιν, which is modified by an ethical dative μοι (lit. “What is it to me?”). NASB, NRSV: “what have I to do”; NIV, HCSB: “what business is it of mine”. The present infinitive κρίνειν (from κρίνω) is substantival, epexegetic of τί. The article τοὺς substantizes the adverb ἔξω (lit. “those outside”, i.e., non-Christians; NASB, HCSB: “outsiders”) to function as the direct object of the infinitive. NIV supplies “the church” as an object for the adverb.
οὐχὶ emphatically introduces a question expecting a “Yes” answer. The substantival adverb τοὺς ἔσω (“those inside”, i.e., church members) is the direct object of the present κρίνετε (from κρίνω) and ὑμεῖς is the emphatic subject.
5:13
The substantival adverb τοὺς ἔξω (“those outside”) is the direct object of the liquid future κρινεῖ (from κρίνω) and ὁ θεὸς is the subject.  The hapax legomenon ἐξαίρω, from ἐκ + αἴρω, is, “I lift out, remove”. The direct object of the liquid aorist imperative ἐξάρατε is τὸν πονηρὸν (“the wicked person”, NRSV, NIV). The verb is modified by the spatial prepositional phrase ἐξ ὑμῶν; the preposition is often repeated after a prefixed verb. αὐτῶν functions as the emphatic pronoun (lit. “out of you yourselves”; “from your very midst”). Although no citation formula is used, this sentence matches the wording of the LXX of Deuteronomy 17:7, except that Paul uses an imperative instead of the (imperatival) future ἐξαρεῖς.

Harmony
“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.” Psalm 40:3 I am sure many of us have witnessed two distinct ways of singing a song and playing an instrument; and one appears to be more of a gift or an acquired gift than the other. There is the soloist and musician who studies the notes and practices methodically until the…

"THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE"
THE HOLY SPIRIT’S WORK IN JEREMIAH: God’s call and anointing upon Jeremiah’s life as a prophet began in the womb. God reveals to Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you [as My chosen instrument], and before you were born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you; [and] I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 AMPC). This reveals that the…
