Kylie Minogue just topped the ARIA charts with Tension II
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/kylies-tension-ii-is-her-ninth-number-1-album-in-australia/
Kylie Minogue just topped the ARIA charts with Tension II
Kylie Minogue’s new album Tension II has topped the ARIA Album Charts, becoming her fifth consecutive album and her ninth album overall to clinch the top spot.
Tension II is Kylie’s follow-up to Tension, which spent a week on top in September last year.
Now ARIA has confirmed Tension II is Kylie’s ninth album at the top of the chart and her fifth consecutive #1 album. ARIA said over in the UK, Tension II is also on track to become her 10th #1 album in the UK.
According to ARIA, Kylie is now ninth on the list of the acts with the most #1 albums, after reaching #1 with Light Years in 2000, Fever in 2001, X in 2007, Kiss Me Once in 2014, Golden in 2018, Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection in 2019, Disco in 2020 and Tension last year.
ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd congratulated Kylie on Friday.
“It is so awesome to see Australia’s OG pop queen continuing to dominate globally and at home, bringing joy and disco into our lives,” she said.
“Huge congratulations to her and her team for such a phenomenal career, five consecutive #1 albums, and continuing to represent Australia on the world stage.”
Kylie Minogue is celebrating the Tension era
Kylie Minogue only announced the sequel album last month, alongside her Tension Tour – her biggest since 2011 – which starts in Australia next year.
Tension II dropped last week, and the dancefloor tracks got a warm reception from Kylie stans.
The album is a direct continuation of 2023’s Tension. Speaking to Vogue, Kylie explained that the Tension era was too good to wrap up and while Tension II is her new album, it’s not her next album.
“With so many albums, you do a repackaging and there’s two or three more songs,” she said.
“Because of the success with Padam Padam, more and more songs are being sent to me than perhaps the year before.
“I remember calling my A&R in Australia and saying, ‘This is starting to feel like another body of work.’
“What we were working on definitely wasn’t the next album. The next album will be the next thing.
“I feel like we’ve gone from 16:9 ratio to Panavision; it’s broadened the world of Tension. With the new tour, there’s definitely still a lot of excitement for this current era.
She added, “For fans who’ve been with me the whole time – the OGs – [the Tension era] feels like a celebration.
“There’s now a whole new generation who decided to plug in. And more broadly speaking [it shows] that anything is possible.
“I really hope that someone seeing this current phase of mine, even if they’re not in music at all, would think, ‘I bet no one saw this happening in her life.’ And that can relate to anyone.”

KOKIA in flashback - 2020
And then, the year is 2020.
It probably goes without saying that this year isn't what KOKIA had hoped it would be at the end of 2019, and that likely goes for all of us. The world goes into lockdown, and KOKIA has to cancel one planned concert after the other.
She looks for something to do, to offer support as much as she can. And thus, she settles on a thing she tried for the first time a year ago: a livestream, to share her music with her fans around the world. Her first one in the 1 to 1 Live for You streams is hosted on Facebook, but she quickly switches over to YouTube, and hosts many a livestream, initially even every weekend. Her second stream replaces her much anticipated big venue Masquerade concert, and she debuts the song I LOVE YOU 2020 here.
Confined to mostly online activities, KOKIA releases quite some digital singles this year, but also releases two new albums: the first chapter in her new Stars series, and the third album in the ton ton ton project. The latter gets renamed to Animal CD, with the first two CDs repackaged and no longer released in tins.
KOKIA's official biography page, which I have been translating in the activities section in these posts so far, doesn't cover the years after 2019. As such, I will rely on her blog entries and my own notes from 2020 onwards. I will still maintain the layout I have used so far. I will list the canceled performances for completion's sake; KOKIA did this herself too in earlier years.

5 Seconds of Summer are learning how to be happy: ‘There’s parts of our career that I don’t remember’
The Guardian, 20 September 2022
The Australian pop band are all still in their 20s, but have spent a decade touring and recording ‘in an endless loop’. Now they’ve swapped parties for feeling at peace
Eleven years since four Australian schoolboys were spotted covering Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber songs on YouTube, plucked from obscurity and planted on some of the world’s biggest stages, 5 Seconds of Summer are starting fresh. A few months before they are set to perform two sold-out homecoming shows on the Sydney Opera House forecourt, they’re celebrating the release of 5SOS5, their (fittingly titled) fifth studio record – and their first to be released independently. They’re seizing control, in more ways than one.
But first, Luke Hemmings (vocals/guitar), Ashton Irwin (vocals/drums), Michael Clifford (vocals/guitar) and Calum Hood (vocals/bass) are confronting another monumental creative task: an album release show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. It is not just a venue of global significance but also personal significance: they once busked outside the concert hall while on a trip to London in their formative years. This time, they’ll be inside, and accompanied by an orchestra.
“I think when [the shows] come about, I’m gonna be very stressed out and I’m gonna try to enjoy it and not just focus on how stressed I am,” Hemmings says, sitting with Irwin in a studio in Eagle Rock, California. “I want to enjoy it and be able to fully remember it, because there’s parts of our career that I don’t remember, just from sheer volume and not being present.”
To fully comprehend the band’s meteoric rise over the past 11 years would be an incredible feat for anyone, let alone a teenager. Barely a year after 5SOS’s first show in 2011, to a dozen people in Sydney’s Annandale hotel, they embarked on an almost 100-date world tour as the support act for One Direction. By then, they were playing to more than 80,000 people over four nights at Sydney’s Allphones Arena.
In those days, as the popularity of boybands such as One Direction and BTS were rising to a level that threatened the sound barrier, 5SOS were forging a different kind of path. They had a fresh, dynamic quality, drawing as they did on the pop-punk they grew up with. All four were born in the shadow of Green Day’s 1994 breakthrough Dookie (Irwin, now 28, is the oldest member of 5SOS), and they repackaged that chart-topping punk for a new generation. Within a few years, 5SOS became the only band in history to land at No 1 on the Billboard 200 with each of their first three studio albums.
It’s almost like we were coming back to the basics of the band.
They’ve since collected five Aria awards at home, along with plenty of hardware overseas, and outlasted the band that gave them that early leg-up (One Direction has been on hiatus since 2015). Their 2018 song Youngblood became the biggest-selling single in Australia that year, then the country’s 11th bestselling single of all time, ranking 5SOS among AC/DC, Vance Joy and the Kid Laroi. Worldwide, they’ve sold more than 12m albums.
As one of the most successful musical acts in Australian history, it would’ve been easy for 5SOS to simply stick with what worked. They had perfected a formula and were enjoying the spoils. But as pop began shifting towards something similarly emo-influenced – the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Machine Gun Kelly have been credited with “saving” pop-punk – 5SOS stepped back and shifted gears.
What does it look like for this band to have to pause in a way they haven’t in a decade?
“You suddenly stop and you realise … uh, I’m now sick, and I want to move all the time, no matter what,” Irwin says. “And I don’t know how to not move.”

The pace of life on the road manifested in physical and emotional illness. In June, Irwin was hospitalised for extreme heat exhaustion during a show in Texas. He’s been sober since 2019 and has experienced body dysmorphia – something he wrote about on his song Skinny Skinny, from his debut solo album. Spending a decade under the glare of cameras and fame contribute their own kind of spiritual illness, too.
The pandemic was a “forced stop” for the whole band, and one that created a relieving kind of freedom. They decamped to Joshua Tree to think and write together, without the same cycle of promotion and touring they had come to associate with making music. When a producer’s planned visit to their makeshift studio was derailed by a flat tire, Clifford stepped into the role and drove the sonic direction for 5SOS5, producing much of the record himself.
“We had a bit more time to reflect on everything that had happened to us – as opposed to in years previous, where we just were writing an album, going on tour, writing an album, going on tour,” Irwin says. “It was, in ways, an endless loop.”
They reflected on how their rapid rise had, Irwin says, “affected us personally, mentally, physically and philosophically. So we just dove into that feeling, and rode off into the sunset with it.”
In one of the early singles from the new album, Me, Myself and I, Hemmings sings of being a pit of need; getting what he wants, but still not feeling satisfied. “A lot of [the new album] is about romantic relationships and friendships,” he says. “But it’s more about realising that maybe you don’t have as many emotional tools in the tool belt to figure out why they affect you.”

Only a few albums into their career, the cheeky upstarts from Sydney had barely hit their 20s when they started to experience the downside of their overnight success. On More, they sang about “a house that’s full of everything we wanted/but it’s an empty home”. “A band is often a trauma bond because you’ve been through so much together,” Irwin told NME in 2020.
Just a few years earlier, a Rolling Stone cover story painted 5SOS out to be debaucherous kids making the most of a good thing: partying hard and burning bright, but destined to be snuffed out. The people in that story couldn’t appear more different to the ones in front of me now. Hemmings seems intent on interrogating the emotional root of his songwriting; like Irwin, he released a solo record last year. And Irwin is pursuing creativity of all kinds, in the open-hearted way countless new arrivals to LA have done before him. They’re still young adults – but adults all the same, confronting what it means to be “on the other side of 24”, seeing scenes change and people fade out of view.
In the press biography for the new album, Irwin speaks of how he and his bandmates have made a conscious and active choice to show up, to be in the band for another day. Nothing about the band, or their new album or where they end up will be by default.
“When we decided to write together [in 2020], we had started to heal ourselves from moving so much and at such a high pace,” Irwin says. “And that, in turn, began to heal our creative relationship together.”
“Healthy” is a word that comes up often during our conversation; Hemmings and Irwin speak of having healthy goals and patterns, ensuring their health is a priority, having their own lives outside the band – “in a healthy way,” Hemmings clarifies. Getting out of each other’s pockets enabled them to find a new way forward, together.
“It’s almost like we were coming back to the basics of the band,” Hemmings says. And after an era defined by feeling heavy and weighed down, he says that these days, “we’re trying to get that light across.” X

Eunoia is a fictional South Korean girl group under Dreams Music. This group consists of 5 girls, 2 Japanese, 1 Canadian and 3 Korean. Their names are KAORI, YUJI, NABI, LOLA AND REN. They debuted on October 8, 2018 with the mini album "FOLLOWiNG MY HEART BEAT" and their title song was 'HEART SHAKER'. This group has a curious concept, because their comebacks always have cute concepts but the videos and lyrics of those comebacks are not always happy and fun as the melody sounds, there are music videos and lyrics of their songs that hide horrible stories, attracting fans to create theories about songs.
Eunoia started out as a test group, uploading covers from different groups to her current official YouTube account, reaching over 1 million views on each cover at the time. People started getting interested in the 5 girls behind the 5 charming voices of the uploaded covers, not knowing that only 7 months after their big 'boom' as a cover group, they would become a formal group.

Eunoia has the great and unique ability to surprise fans with each comeback by the different concepts she uses, and also by adapting to them so well. Each album tells a different story and they are of different types. For example, her debut album, "FOLLOWiNG MY HEART BEAT" is about a girl looking for her first love, but, having no experience, she ends up very disappointed because her first love also ended up being her first heartbreak.

So it's not sorting members and biases, but how would you rank weki meki albums (by whatever criteria you feel like doing lol)?
ooooo hmmmmmm............. thats interesting..... okay i’ll try it haha
WeMe - i actually went into making this list thinking that Lucky would be number 1, but the more i think about it and look at the tracklist... actually i think it’s WeMe lol. IDLYG is such a unique debut song and i dont care what anyone else says lol, i adore that song. Stay With Me is pretty iconic too. it’s not necessarily one of my favorite bsides of theirs, but it’s good. Neverland is underrated though for sure, i really like that song. and then Fantastic is honestly a candidate for being my favorite Weki Meki bside haha that song is just so... i dont even know, lol. undercover. superlover.
Lucky - this is one of the most solid mini albums in kpop, imo. Lucky is a fantastic intro, La La La is such an underrated title track, Iron Boy and Metronome both slap... i like the album’s vibe a lot
Hide and Seek - Oopsy is great, and Dazzle Dazzle was included on the album too, and normally when previous non-album singles are included in a subsequent album i think it’s kind of a waste of a space, but in terms of making a list like this, i gotta factor in the fact that this album has two title tracks on it lol. in this instance that’s a good thing. but not just that, Moya Moya is another one of my favorite bsides from them. The Paradise is fantastic too, i really wanna see what other stuff Suyeon writes if this is what we can expect haha. honestly with how much i wrote about this one... maybe i even like it more than Lucky? i’ve been thinking that Lucky is their best or one of their best mini albums for basically the whole time that i’ve been into Weki Meki, so i’m gonna have to put more thought into this before i make a decision that drastic hahaha. for me, that’s a big deal lol, i dont wanna just declare Hide and Seek better than Lucky unless im 100% sure. i’ll ruminate on this
Lock End LOL/Week End LOL - okay, so, this single album is above their other remaining mini album. oops. normally i wouldnt ever put a single album above a mini album (and probably wouldnt put a mini album above a full album), but like... this one has PICKY PICKY and TIKI TAKA lmao... i’ve listened to Tiki Taka more than countless other songs from groups i also love, and i’ve probably listened to Picky Picky more than i’ve listened to some entire groups, lol. and Whatever U Want is ANOTHER favorite bside. Petal Fortune is nice, i like it, but it’s not something i listen to that often. but so those first three songs are incredible and they literally (not a joke) changed my life haha, Picky Picky is my favorite kpop song of all time... but the reason this album isn’t higher is just because tbh i would need another banger song, i think. at least one more. it has my favorite song on it, but it is just a single album, even with the Tiki Taka repackage.
Kiss Kicks - okay now things are getting controversial. Crush isn’t my favorite title track and i’ve made no secret of that lol (but i do still love it, dont get me wrong), but i love True Valentine. ive been saying various bsides are “possibly my favorite”, but i think if i had to actually pick one (and only one) favorite bside right now, it’d probably be True Valentine. but so the controversial thing about this placement probably isnt the fact that Kiss Kicks is so low... because it’s only a single album with just three songs on it.... the controversial thing is that this album is above-
New Rules - sjdklmvldsfg,sf;lg. i LOVE Cool. it was my fifth favorite song last year, which is like super high praise from me lol, i put a LOT of thought into my top 10 list. being in my top 5 is like putting it in the S Tier lol. but uhhhhh idk... i’m just not feeling any of the bsides. Just Us, the one that the members wrote, is nice and it’s meaningful but it’s not something i’ve listened to very often. i dont even remember D-Day (that’s my bad, i should listen to it again). and Sweet Dreams... i know a lot of people like it, but... and this is gonna be a controversial opinion... i just can’t get into it. i could elaborate on that but i’ve written enough already lol... i don’t hate it, it just doesnt really work for me, it’s hard to explain.... well anyway lol. I do love Cool though
i could edit these to be more readable, it’s really clear that i’m just talking to myself in a stream of consciousness, but i’m not gonna proofread lmao this is just a tumblr post. i just like to ramble about the things i like haha, thank you for giving me an opportunity to do so hahaha. i already think about this kinda stuff on my own, without posting it lol
#i think i literally have listened to picky picky more than ive listened to wjsn's entire discography#for example#which isnt a small amount by the way lol#ive probably listened to picky picky more than pentagon and everglow and itzy... all of which are among my favorite groups#ive just listened to picky picky a lot#long post#thoughts tag#Anonymous

SEPTEMBER 2020 BC ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULES & REVIEW
Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of October 7 KST:
A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly limit).
A thread of six posts (three per participant, including the starter) based on the monthly schedule.
Threads and solos do not have to take place directly during an important date listed on the schedule, but must be related to what the muse is mentioned to be doing in the paragraph explaining their schedule/the company’s schedule for the month and/or their thoughts on the mentioned activities or lack thereof.
These schedules may be updated throughout the month if new information needs to be added.
Reminder: August schedule posts are due by the end of September 7 KST. Please do not post schedule posts in the fmdschedule tag.
OVERALL COMPANIES
As has become standard at this point, all idols under the company will be permitted a short, three-day break over Chuseok unless they have individual schedules (admin note: points claims) conflicting with the vacation. It is a true break, meaning idols may travel as they wish and are capable of doing within such a short time period and, if they don’t have individual schedules, their manager will be off the clock as well.
Important dates:
September 30(-October 2): Chuseok vacation (no activities save for any individual schedules).
BC SOLOIST 1
Following the conclusions of her latest comeback promotions, she still has another performance on the festival circuit as a performer at the Seoul event of Waterbomb 2020. She’s been allotted a fifteen minute set which includes ‘Love U”, “Roller Coaster”, ‘Why Don’t You Know”, and her cover of “Bang Bang”. Later in the month, she’ll be dropping into a popular dance studio to film a video showcasing choreography of one of her b-sides, “Do It”, from her album earlier in the year alongside the choreographer.
Important dates:
September 5: Performance at Waterbomb 2020 in Seoul, South Korea (also performing: Dimensions Soloist 1).
September 28: Filming of 1MILLION Dance Studio collaboration video (to be released: October 12).
DECIPHER
Before their maknae leaves the country once again at the end of the month, the members of Decipher must learn the choreography for their new comeback title track as well as for their staged b-side “My Beautiful”. Later in the month, they’ll go in for their regular comeback fittings to decide their comeback promotion wardrobe.
Important dates:
September 21: Comeback MV and stage outfit fittings.
↳ Decipher R & V
No schedules for the month.
Important dates:
N/A.
↳ CHAMPION
On September 25, CHAMPION once again flies out from Seoul to return to finish off their tour dates in the US. The routine is the same as before, but the members will fly out almost immediately after finishing their last concert in the states in order to return to Seoul in time for them to still have their full Chuseok break.
Important dates:
September 26: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at Viejas Arena in San Diego, CA, USA.
September 27: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at The Forum in Inglewood, CA, USA.
September 28: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at SAP Center in San Jose, CA, USA.
September 29: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at ShoWare Center in Kent, WA, USA.
BEE
BEE finishes off their music show-promotions mid-month after yet another successful album release. Following the end of promotions, they’re offered a full two-week vacation to do as they please. They’re welcome to travel abroad if they wish, with or without a manager, as long as they don’t have other individual activities to attend to in Korea. They’ll only return to business for a few days before they get another, shorter vacation in the form of their time off for Chuseok.
Important dates:
September 5: Fan sign in Gangnam, Seoul.
September 10: End of music show promotions.
September 11-September 24: Vacation.
↳ 2BEE
No schedules for the month.
Important dates:

KNIGHT
The members of CHAMPION depart back to the US for more tour dates at the end of the month, so, before they leave, the group members have to fit in the shoot for the teaser photos for their comeback as well as filming a concept trailer and the title music video. The comeback has a concept involving alter-egos, so the members will be expected to embody both Knight and X-Knight versions of themselves for photos and filming.
Important dates:
September 11: Comeback teaser photo shoot & KNIGHTDEUX Concept Trailer filming.
September 13: “Obsession” M/V filming.
↳ White Knight
No schedules for the month.
Important dates:
N/A

September 29: CHAMPION: We Are The Future Live concert at ShoWare Center in Kent, WA, USA.
↳ Knight Light
Knight Light ends their promotions early in the month and then their schedules halt for the time being. Their unit debut was well-received among fans, if not as much the general public, and the general attitude around their promotions seems to suggest the unit will be making a comeback in the future, although no plans have been officially put into place or discussed with the unit members at this time, as preparations for the full group comeback are more important now.
Important dates:
September 3: End of music show promotions.
LIPSTICK
Only the members of Lip Gloss will be performing for Queendom this month for the unit and Fandora’s Box rounds, but the rest of the members will still appear during all filming days. The group’s lead vocal/lead dancer will be representing the group for the vocal unit performance, while the maknae/main dancer/lead rapper/sub vocal will represent them in the performance stage. Full details of Queendom filming for this month can be found here. In the meantime, the full group has a photo shoot for the cover of and an inside spread in the October issue military culture magazine HIM this month.
Important dates:
September 3: Episode two of Queendom airs.
September 7: Queendom episode five & six filming.
September 10: Episode three of Queendom airs.
September 12: Photo shoot for HIM Magazine’s October issue.
September 17: Episode four of Queendom airs.
September 24: Episode five of Queendom airs.
September 28: Queendoom episode seven, eight & nine filming. (unit stage, Fandora’s Box stage)
↳ Lip Gloss
Lip Gloss has been chosen to perform their debut single “Catallena” as Lipstick’s Pandora’s Box stage. Accordingly, they’ll be expected to have the performance down by heart and will go back in to original outfits from their initial promotion period of the song refitted as their schedules allow.
Important dates:
September 28: Queendoom episode seven, eight & nine filming. (unit stage, Fandora’s Box stage)
CHARM
Now that their tour is finished, CHARM must return to the studio to record their next Japanese single album, which they’ll be releasing before the end of the year. After learning and recording the song, they’re gifted a slightly extended Chuseok break. They may travel abroad with or without a manager during this break if they wish to do so, unless they have individual schedules that require their attendance.
Important dates:
September 27(-October 3): Extended Chuseok vacation.
↳ CHARM U
No schedules for the month.
Important dates:
N/A
WISH
WISH wraps up their world tour this month with dates in Shizuoka, Tokyo, and, finally, Seoul. In addition to recording the track for their Japanese album repackage this month, the members will also begin to practice for the special fanclub-only concert they’ll be holding next month to commemorate their fifth anniversary. They’ll practice all of their title tracks so far, plus “Downpour” that they recorded last month, and will also be assigned special stages (Admin note: distribution is slightly altered from the canon here to have every muse participate in at least one special stage):

LEON Magazine January 2019 issue - Interview with Suho
You spent time with us at LEON 2019’s Young LEON. You are running on the highway of the peak of youth (young) now, what is ‘youth (young)’ to you?
“I think you can link it to the word ‘youth’. I think anyone can be a youth if they have dreams, if they have the will to fulfil their goals after setting them. Those kinds of people show a passionate and active image to continuously develop themselves, regardless of whether they are thirty or forty. They also have an enthusiastic attitude towards life. I always have dreams, too. They’re not very grand just because they’re called dreams. To fulfil my goals after setting specific ones, I try to move forward by making plans step by step and fulfilling each one by one.”
What dreams do you have lately?
“A few. Firstly, a big goal I have is to be active with the EXO members for a long time. I want to periodically release albums and meet fans often through concerts even after we’ve aged. I hope to be very active in the musical sector too. If I have the chance, I dream of doing a musical on Broadway or advancing into Hollywood.”
With what attitude are you facing youth?
“While I am the type to make plans and calmly prepare for my future, I also do my best at certain times. One of my mottos is, ‘let’s exist in this moment’. I repeat it to myself whenever there is something important. I think the attitude of focusing in that moment is the best method to take a step forward closer towards the future image I hope to have.”
You always show an energetic image of EXO’s leader, where is the root of that energy?
“Setting my dreams and goals in detail and trying to fulfil each one of them becomes my inner driving force. Now that I am 8 years into my debut, I feel some responsibility for my current position, and that becomes my external driving force. I should meet the expectations of myself, the fans, and many others. Sometimes i becomes burdensome because I am a human too, but pressure that makes me feel good prevents me from stopping.”
You took good care of the staff on set. It feels like your delicate consideration is embedded in your body.
“I am the type to pay close attention to everyone’s feelings, whether it’s my members, friends, or staff. I think it’s because I am the leader. I meet a lot of people no matter where I go, and there are a lot of times I need to represent EXO, so I think it naturally became that way.”
When can we see Suho’s most natural image?
“I’m now most comfortable with my members, family, and school friends. When I meet the friends I made in school, I feel like I’m university student Kim Junmyeon instead of EXO’s Suho. We either play together in a pension we rent on the outskirts of Seoul or go to the sauna. Those friends accept me as I am.”
In 2018, you promoted busily as of course EXO’s Suho, but also as musical actor and actor Kim Junmyeon. What was the one activity in particular that left the deepest impression?
“All of them were good experiences. In particular, I remember the time we prepared for the musical <The Man Who Laughs>. I did not know that I would get closer to musicals as a genre, even up to when I played Rudolph in my first musical <The Last Kiss>. Even when I started this project [The Man Who Laughs], I started with the attitude that I’m learning from it. It was a big challenge in my life, but it was really enjoyable. I was comfortable going up on stage after I gradually got used to it. It was a special experience to exist as another person on stage for a long time.”
I feel like the time you spent working with other seniors as a rookie actor would have been very meaningful.
“As I was casted for <The Man Who Laughs> while I was filming my drama <Rich Man>, I was only able to join them just a month before the first show. I felt like I was very short on time, so I did not stop practising for the whole month. With the thought that I must not cause harm or inconvenience to the other seniors on stage with me, I practised all day except for when I was asleep. I memorized my lyrics even when I was eating. Reciting the lyrics for all four of my solo songs before I slept every night was the homework I gave myself. Doing that, I ended up performing even in my dreams (laughs). I feel like trust between actors is important for a musical performance, so I was proud and thankful that [the others] seemed to believe in me after seeing me [practice] before the first show started.”
Are there any genres or roles that you want to challenge in future musicals?
“There are a lot. I want to try <Jekyll and Hyde> when I become a bit older, and I want to try acting as a character that is the opposite of my role as Lee Yoochan in <Rich Man>. It’s a role where I am taciturn but throw out gemlike famous lines every time I speak, a role that leads the piece heavily. I hope to act in a scene that is able to stay in the viewers’ memory for a long time.”
We cannot leave out talking about EXO’s fifth album that was recently released. It feels like your music has deepened. Was there a part you paid special attention to?
“The choreography for ‘Tempo’ is really complex. It’s a completely different feeling from all our precious group dances, and if you look at it, you could say it’s a freestyle dance too. It’s like all eight members have their individual feels, but it’s unified as a whole. I paid a lot of attention to it, more than when we practice precise choreographies that matches all the angles. It’s our first album in a long time, and all our members have their own individual feels now that we are eight years into our debut. I was in charge of compromising the opinions that are actively exchanged among members, and it was very interesting.”
While you probably receive fresh motivation while promoting actively recently, I think you would have been stressed too. What is your own way of relieving stress or organising your thoughts?
“I make time to go for a vacation far away. I get to see and feel new things, but more than anything, I feel free. It’s the time when I get the feeling of escaping life. I’m existing as just Kim Junmyeon, not EXO’s Suho. Recently, I went to Fukuoka with Heechan, whom I got closer to during <Glory Days>. I went into a picturesque open-air bath and felt my exhaustion go away entirely, even though the weather was cold.”
You’re spending the start of 2019 with LEON. Do you put significant meaning into starting? If you had a new resolution for the new year?
“I think starting is already half of it. As it is important to take a good first step, I do make resolutions every January. ‘Let’s make 2019 a happy year with no regrets’. It’s my profile message on my messenger. I started on 1 January 2017 and only change the numbers every year. I try to make every day meaningful so that I can smile and say that all the past moments were valuable and precious when I look back on the past year.”
What plans do you have for promotions in 2019?
“Now that our repackaged album <Love Shot> has been released in December after our fifth album, I want to meet fans through a concert. For my personal wish, I’ve written lyrics that contain what I want to say, so I hope I can release them next time. As an actor, I want to definitely do one project that is either a movie, drama, or musical. For me too, now is the start of 2019.”

At only 28 years old, the superstardom of Tinashe has already lived a lifetime. Now, the prolific alt-R&B artist is back with 333, the latest installment in her ever-evolving oeuvre of work.
Released independently on August 6th, 333 is the fifth studio album from Tinashe—and the first to truly highlight her uncanny abilities to absorb, transform and inspire. From the drum and bass structure of "SHY GUY" to the poptronica echoes of "The Chase," the influences behind the project's 16 tracks are crystal clear.
Yet, it's how Tinashe has repackaged those references that's truly masterful. Remember: Tinashe came up as a DIY artist, and her talents span beyond songwriting and singing to include producing, mixing, mastering and everything in between. She's also been tapped for tracks by ZHU, Kaytranada, Snakehips, Cheat Codes and more, making her influence and knowledge anything but linear.
Reflecting this dominance is 333's titular track with Absolutely, which hits a sweet spot between sonically spiritual and lyrically tongue-in-cheek. "X" with Jeremih, on the other hand, plays a sharp and sexy contrast to the delicate introspection of album opener "Let Go."
At once playful and profound, 333 also elevates a host of assisting electronic artists, whose musical insights are ingrained in the fabric of the nearly 50 minute-long opus. "Undo (Back To My Heart)" with Wax Motif, for one, is an innovative blend of sugary synthwave and anticipative club bass. Kaytranada also makes an appearance as a producer on the whirling and twirling "Unconditional," as does Kito on the transportive "Small Reminders."
On making 333, Tinashe told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 that it felt like an entirely new chapter for both herself and her artistry. This revelation is achingly evident throughout the project, shining through with seamless storytelling and potent lyricism. According to Tinashe, the change was sparked in part by a newfound dedication to following her instincts and returning to the "raw spirit, that raw energy" of her earliest creative self.
"Maybe along the way, along the course of my journey, there were definitely times where things or, I guess, events...would make me question that creative voice that kind of always just kind of spoke through me," Tinashe revealed. "Getting back to that now with this new music and everything, and just like, everything feeling so, like, in alignment...Everything falls into place. It’s so great.”
