Today’s Scripture 1 John 5:15, ESV And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. Today’s Word When you pray, you can know that you have your requests. When you believe and receive your healing, or the promotion, or the freedom, things begin to happen in the unseen realm. But if the answer is always in your future, you haven’t…

Effective Prayer
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. God looks on the heart is often used as a comforting verse and there is much truth to that but let us remember that if we harbor evil in our heart God will judge that.
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Matthew 5:28
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
1 John 3:15
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isaiah 14:13
But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
1 Samuel 16:7
I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
Jeremiah 17:10

Harmony
“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.” Psalm 40:3 I am sure many of us have witnessed two distinct ways of singing a song and playing an instrument; and one appears to be more of a gift or an acquired gift than the other. There is the soloist and musician who studies the notes and practices methodically until the…

"THE CHRISTMAS GUEST THAT WILL NEVER LEAVE!"
Matthew 1:23, “Listen! The virgin shall conceive a child! She shall give birth to a Son, and He shall be called “Emmanuel” (meaning “God Is With Us.”) (TLB) During the holidays you have to admit there’s quite a bit that can make you cry! Seeing family, exchanging gifts, watching kid’s faces light up, reading heart-felt cards and the like. However, there’s an even bigger Kleenex moment that…

“O death, where is your victory?     O death, where is your sting?”
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Something, something, 1 John 5:4, and 1 Corinthians 15:22.
The thing I keep coming back to, with all the *gestures expansively* is that real life doesn't have peaceful epilogues.
Every single win has to be defended. Forever. I'm sorry. It sucks. The Nazis lost until they stopped losing. The US had abortion rights, and then 50 years later it didn't. Empires fall, and then they invade other countries again. Oppressive regimes are overthrown and replaced with other oppressive regimes. You will never finish the work etc etc etc. Which is why it's so fucking important to be able to acknowledge and celebrate progress, when it happens. The people who came before you didn't put in all that work for nothing, and you aren't, either. You can't save it all for the Ultimate Victory because there is never going to be an Ultimate Victory. There's no such thing as a time when everything is good, and ours shall not be the commune of Heaven.

John Wrote About the Word of God. Mary Obeyed the Word. What About YOU?
Ever since I became aware enough to consider such things, I have always thought that the first few sentences of the Gospel of John are possibly the most significant sentences ever written in Western civilization. They tie Jesus of Nazareth to the Ancient Hebrew Scriptures, to Greek thought and philosophy, and to the vast boundlessness of eternity in the space-time continuum. If the arrival of…

Church notes - 5th January 2025
Church notes - January 2025 5th Acts 16:31
Hebrews 5:5 - 13
2025 What is behind that door? There is a lot of pessimism
Hope We have a hope in Jesus.
Don't let all the good ideas, themes and hope of Christmas be packed away.
The foundation for the new year is in the true meaning of Christmas
Jesus is the Redeemer, Shepherd and Friend Redeemer - He took Sin's penalty on Himself. Isaiah 53:3 Colossians 3:13, 14
All we need to do is to take up that gift.
Doubts can surface. But it is certain, because it relies on Jesus, not on us. He shepherds us through the ups and downs of life.
God is with us in our difficulties.
John 1:14
Hebrews 2:14 - 18
He became flesh and blood in order to save us.
John 15:13 - 15

1 John 5:14-15 (ESV). “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”
“Praying With Impact” By In Touch Ministries:
“Communication with the Lord is a vital part of the Christian life.”
“Prayer is a common practice for believers, but we can easily lose sight of its greater purpose—communing with God and discerning His will for our life. Because communication with Him is so vital, it’s wise to step back at times and ask yourself these questions:
What are my prayers accomplishing in me? Does praying make you feel closer to the Lord or is it more of a “have to”?
Who am I praying for? Are most of your requests for yourself or others?
What am I asking God to do? Have you looked in His Word to see what He wants, or are you trying to get Him to intervene according to your plans and desires?
When do I pray? Do you call on the Lord only during emergencies or when you need something?
If you discovered any selfishness in your answers, you’re not alone. Most of us struggle to enter God’s presence with our eyes focused solely on Him. Your prayer life can become energizing and potent if you approach the Lord with a clean heart (Psalm 66:18), align your requests with His will (John 14:13), and believe He will do what He says (Numbers 23:19). We won’t be able to do these things perfectly, but the more we try, the more confident we’ll be in our prayers to God.”
