Fluent Freshman - 01

Just thinking about some poor Palmetto Freshman who, due to the nature of the Foxes, is super quiet and blends into the background. This poor freshman is a foreign language major (forcing himself to have to talk to people and he likes languages) and he knows a couple languages already!

He hasn’t mentioned his major so no one knows but its fine there will be time to make friends and- did Captain Neil just call the scary goalie милый (Darling)? Their tones give away nothing but the goalie with all the knives responded by calling his weirdly intense captain кролик (Bunny).

He stares at them but Andrew threatens to cut him if he keeps looking (he thinks its about Neil’s scars) and now he has officially missed the chance to mention that he is fluent in Russian.

Cue being subjected to the sappiest shit on the entire planet because Andrew and Neil are fucking extra with the shit they say when no one can listen in. So now begins the long play of trying not to let on that he knows because that would be so embarrassing! So awkward! He masters the art of the poker face by the Fall Banquet. He refuses to sit in hearing distance of the two of them on the bus because last time he listened to Andrew describe in excruciating detail what he was going to do to Neil if Neil let him when they got back to the dorm. (He couldn’t get up and walk away! That’d be suspicious!)

This is his hell but at least he made friends with the other freshmen when he accidentally said “No I think Andrew likes Captain Neil plenty.” Because he was trying not to process the absolutely filthy things Andrew was saying to Neil in what looked like a heated argument.

The only person who knows is Nicky because Nicky came up and asked if he was homophobic (power walking away from Neil and Andrew when Neil sat in Andrew’s lap for movie night because he has LEARNED that lesson) and he panicked because HE IS NOT HOMOPHOBIC and confessed that he is fluent in Russian.

Nicky, wisely, promises to take this information to his grave. The freshman weeps in gratitude.

The dynamic between qSlime and Sunny is so fascinating - like by law yes they are bound together as family and of course they care about each other and trust each other to an extent, yet there's always this distance that they try to keep.

Both Slime and Sunny put in the effort to get to know one another despite what other people say about them, but there's a billion unanswered questions Sunny has for their pop - and a billion unspoken secrets that Slime doesn't have the vulnerability to share.

Notably the assassination Slime initially had on Sunny (he never tells her this), and the conversation the two of them had in the snow when Sunny brings up the rumours. Even towards his daughter Slime is defensive, he doesn't coddle them as much as he did with Juanaflippa. The distinction between Juanaflippa (as a concept) and Sunny for Slime's character is extremely important as Sunny (even as his daughter) does not fit that flippa mold. By doing this Slime draws this line as a response from his trauma, but when these lines start to blur as Slime and Sunny do more father-daughter stuff together (egg tasks, games, lullabies) -- is when Slime starts to break down (eg: the bedtime rap).

There's only so much they can do as a family without addressing the glaring holes in their relationship before it gets worse.

my main issue with the homura is evil take is that everyone is like that one "you fell for the character's facade that was meant to be dismantled 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣" about madoka. goes for homura too but misunderstanding madoka is the biggest sin you could commit in terms of understanding pmmm because rebellion isn't about madoka losing autonomy it's about her being dragged away from sacrifice for her own good. like the "for your own good" argument is indeed used for evil things but in that case it Quite Literally Is That the series literally rubs in your face that Young girls Sufffering For the Greater Good™ is a bad thing actually. why is madoka an acceptable sacrifice for you even though she's also a young girl. why do you think the magical girl system is horrible but choosing madoka as a sacrifical lamb is good. because she's one person? because she's willing to do it? she literally tells us straight that she is not even though she pretends she's fine with it. being a goddess equivalent to a person tied to an endlessly running machine just to generate energy for it isn't what she wants she wants to live with her friends and family and homura. she does Not want to be some sort of suffering sponge taking in every magical girl's despair just to make their death less painful. why is your understanding of pmmm not "this system sucks and has to be destroyed" and instead "the system can keep up as long as there's an acceptable sacrifice to make it Slightly Less Painful at the cost of her own being"

being a goddess is the same as suicide for madoka and her being dragged away from it is not loss of autonomy. it is the same thing as locking up knives away from a suicidal person. and if you see the person doing this for her as evil or a demon who controls her then so be it, homura might as well accept being seen as evil if it means madoka isn't running headfirst into sacrifice
