if peter tork had been crucified in the 70s mike (during his crucifixion in the 90s or early 00s) would have insisted on being crucified upside down since he hated peter and was so dissimilar to him and should not be considered worthy to die in the same way. subscribe for more monkees bible facts

ethan. i chose whatever music asks you haven’t done yet.
hi kieren im kind of obsessed with u. there are a lot that i havent done but some of them i cant be bothered to answer/genuinely cannot answer or the answer is just no so here's the ones i like <3
Do you listen to more oldies or more current stuff? A mix of both but leaning more to oldies, the majority of my favourite songs and artists are either from the 60s & 70s era, or the 90s & 00s era <3
Would you wear a t-shirt of a band you're not into? Probably not, even if the design is cool i only wear band tshirts if i care abt the band. But if someone gave me an artist tshirt as a gift, i’d wear it AND listen to the artist it depicts 👍
Is there an artist or song that you like, despite being of a genre you don't usually like? I like all genres i don't discriminate. i’m bisexual
A song or album from the 50s or earlier: this compilation album of old japanese pop 1950-1951… discovered through mash playlists
A song or album from the 60s: 1-800-are-you-experienced by jimi hendrix 1967 :)
A song or album from the 70s: Born to run by BRUCIE 1975 raaaagghhhhhh
A song or album from the 80s: King of rock by run-dmc 1985 💪💥
A song or album from the 90s Call the doctor by sleater-kinney 1996
A song or album from the 2000s: Cheap pop for the elite by kore. ydro., 2006
A song or album from the 2010s: TRANSANGELIC EXODUS BY EZRA FURMAN 2018. GOAT
Do you and your partner/best friend share a special song? One you’d call “our song”? unfortunately for my boyfriend and i it is the predatory wasp of the palisades is out to get us by sufjan stevens which is indicative of how normal we both are
Do you play any instruments? I’ve been “learning” the bass for about 2 years but havent made much progress but i can do basic riffs and improvise a little
Who’s your favorite fictional band or artist? Marceline The Vampire
When was the last time you cried when listening to a song, if ever? I couldn’t tell you the last time a song made me properly cry but i sort of cried listening to come on in yesterday because i was having a category 5 peter tork moment
Your favorite artist from your city/state/country? At the moment its marina spanou and based on her lyrics i think she is literally from the same area of athens as me <3
A song you like in a language you don’t speak:
A song you like with lyrics in two or more languages:
songs that are symbolic of a time when i was literally and without exaggeration in the trenches. korean & english
Do you enjoy musicals? If so, what’s your favorite? Top 5: fiddler on the roof, jesus christ superstar, newsies, les miserables, hadestown.
Have you watched any musician’s biopics? Do you have a favorite? I’M NOT THERE DIRECTED BY TODD HAYNES MY NUMBER 1 ☝️ even if i am not the biggest bob dylan girl out there i fucking love that movie so much
Do you listen to music when it's raining or do you stop to hear the sound of the rain? Im answerin this question cos i like it. If its raining really hard i take out my headphones and turn my music up so i can hear it out loud blended with the sound of the rain <3
Do you prefer live recordings or studio recordings? LIVE RECORDINGS ARE MY BEST FRIENDS. I dont know if i prefer them but theres something so comcorting and beautiful of hearing live stuff so yeah <3
Okay these were the questions i cared about. thank you i love you . heheheheh

ok so @sigmastolen tagged me in this weeks ago and i was like "i should do that!" and then. didn't
until now!!!!!!! surprise here i am i don't believe in tag expiration dates and you don't have to either >:)
Last song listened to: Michael Torke's Psalms and Canticles. i think there are a lot of bangers in it even if it doesn't quite stick the ending, and i think there is some fantasy alternate universe me that winds up performing this someday
Currently reading: to kill time at work, The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie. outside of working hours, the Opies' Language and Lore of Schoolchildren, altho there "skimming" is perhaps more accurate since i'm not like, that invested in reading every local variation in a schoolyard rhyme from 1956. still some interesting stuff in there, and also interesting to see rhymes that i remember from my 90s Childhood™ being cited as already generations old 70+ years ago. children's lore is wild!
Currently watching: with my husband: Los Espookys when HBO cooperates and Brooklyn 99 when it doesn't. when he's not around, random YouTube videos, some Breaking Bad, and also the BBC Poirot show from the 80s/90s/00s (it had a long run)
Currently obsessed with: finishing the formatting on this siddur so i can finally release it and be free sorry this is a boring answer it is just eating my brain alive
Tagging: @nicethighsnicereyes, @onlysunscreen, @basically-agatha-cromwell, @hippo-pot, @masala-and-thunderstorms if you feel like it!

Music safari New Orleans, November 2024
I went to New Orleans on music safari last November. Obviously, Tuba Skinny at DBA would be my first stop.

That's Craig on reeds, a great sub on trumpet (name?), Barnabus on 'bone, Max on banjo, Todd the skinny on tuba and Greg on guitar. (Help please on the NOLA musicians I don't know. Write to me at [email protected] and tell me. Please.)

Aurora Nealand, of course, at The Maison. With her band, The Royal Roses or The Reed Minders, or whatever she's calling it this week. Russell Welch (guitar) and the trumpet player (help, please)

The next night we caught Charlie Halloran's band. Notice the same guitar player (Russell Welch) and the same trumpet player (help please).

Every week day at 2:00 PM the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park has a concert usually featuring one (or more) or the great musicians of New Orleans. On Thursday, November 14, we had the great good fortune to hear the amazing piano player David Torkanowsky and Ranger Saskia Walker.

Tork is most definitely one of the Great Ones. He's been to Woods Hole with Cyrille Aimée, and I've heard him several times in his home town. He didn't disappoint.

But Saskia Walker was the surprise. This woman can sing. A word about the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park. They select their rangers based on their interests. So - contrary to so many army efficiency jokes - the National Park Service matched Saskia's love of jazz to her assignment in New Orleans. In fact, the park supports a whole jazz band of park rangers. PLEEEEASE don't tell Musk or Trump about this most delicious use of our tax dollars.

A visit to New Orleans would not be complete without a set by the great trumpet player and vocalist Marla Dixon. She's not hard to find. Just mosey down Frenchman Street with your ears open. Here' she is at The Spotted Cat.

We caught Herlin Riley and his combo at Snug Harbor. His joyful drumming was a revelation.

On our last day in New Orleans, we had the good fortune to discover Marie-Isabelle Pautz and her band 't Marie and Bayou Juju. She brings a genuine Cajun heritage and a love of her old-time tradition. We found her and her band undeservedly stuck in a corner at the Bombay Club. The world needs to find her.

Michael Torke - One Note After Another.
Michael Torke has a bunch of these notes that are presently driving me wild. He is a contemporary classical composer. That doesn’t mean he’s dead. Or that he has ruffled cuffs and a receding hairline. Or that everyone who appreciates him has white hair and a 9:00 pm bedtime like I do. Okay. His hair has receded. He’s probably working this very moment, while we’re here hanging out on Paswonky.…

Just spent an hour of my finite time on earth frantically searching for a specific high res Peter Tork image, my whole neck and jaw are tense af bc I was so focused and determined, I am wide awake and I have to get up at 5:00 am tomorrow, my entire life has dissolved into a living, breathing shrine for this stupid fake band from 50+ years ago
Anyways, here’s the image

Audio from Connecticut Public Radio, April 25, 2013.
“‘My parents were only-child type adults and their attitude when I was a baby and demanded attention, was, ‘Let him cry, he’ll get over it.’ As a result I’ve always felt a slightly abnormal need for extra affection. Until I was twenty, my life was overwhelmed by the pressures of discipline. The informality of The Monkees and the popularly of the show satisfies me.” - Peter Tork, interviewed by Lou Larkin for Photoplay, September 1967 “I had pathological self value. I really didn’t have a sense of it at all. I didn’t get why. I thought I had been picked almost at random. I didn’t have any sense of myself bringing anything except that character to the Monkees. What I thought they hired me for was that character, and I think to this day that that had a lot to do with it. I didn’t recognize how that sprung forth from whom who I really am. I thought I was faking them out. I thought I was handing them a lie and they were buying the lie — and so how could I value myself? Any time you compliment somebody and they can’t take the compliment, what they’re saying to you is, ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about.’ That’s the message that anybody with low self-esteem gives back when somebody compliments them. Which is where I was. All that played into this fame thing. And it plays backwards, too. The reason that I got into the fame game was because I didn’t have any sense of value. I thought, ‘Jeez, if I can get the millions to love me then I’ll be all right.’ I got the millions to love me — and it still wasn’t all right. What a surprise. Ha, ha, ha.” - Peter Tork, Toxic Fame: Celebrities Speak on Stardom (1996) Audio transcript: “No, no, no, I wanted to lose myself (chuckles), it was all about, bye-bye, I didn’t like the guy I was. I… the whole thing about—…do you want to talk about fame and why fame and charisma and why those things? Because I’ve been thinking about this stuff for a long time and we can get, it’ll get kind of serious if we do. The long and the short of it is that I don’t believe that anybody gets to be famous without needing the adulation as a substitute for reasonable affection and love in the early on. And of course you need, you need a certain amount of support anyway, you need parents who are—who provide healthy, physically healthy, and aren’t there for you at some—or at least you perceive them to be. I have to say, I don’t know whether my parents were emotionally neglectful; I know that I felt neglected. It may not be on them at all, it may just be a, you know, a quirk of nature. I’m discovering that I’m not built like a lot of other people In a lot of ways, but be that as it may, the sense of being isolated leads me to think that if I can only get the millions to love me then it’ll be all right, you know. And of course no amount of times that I tell you, or how many, how I go about telling you what it was like would prepare you to walk out and suddenly be in the middle of that. But in fact the rest of it is… I mean, it’s all human anyway. Nothing human is denied anybody human, basically; I really believe this very strongly.” - Peter Tork, Connecticut Public Radio, April 25, 2013

"You Just May Be the One" (first recorded version)
Written by Michael Nesmith
Lead vocals: Michael Nesmith
Harmony vocals: Micky Dolenz
Guitars/dano basses: Peter Tork, James Burton, Glen Campbell, Al Casey, Mike Deasey
Bass: Robert West
Drums: Hal Blaine, Jim Gordon
Percussion: Gene Estes, Frank DeVito
Piano: Larry Knechtel
Recorded at RCA Victor Studios, Hollywood, California; July 18, 1966 (8:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.)
Producer: Michael Nesmith
The song features the doubling of regular bass with Danelectro or "dano" bass; the dano bass' distinctive twang gave Nesmith's 1966 tracks a country flavor. The doubling of bass proved difficult to master as some 35 takes were needed before the backing track was completed.
The song was featured on three first-season episodes of The Monkees: "The Chaperone," "One Man Shy," and "Monkees a La Mode."
One of my favorites. There’s a version where Mike starts the track by saying something like “This is thirty, do you believe that?” I can’t seem to find that one, now, but I know it’s out there somewhere. The session one backing track shows the trouble they had trying to get the two basses to mingle properly.
