007 fest is a month-long event organised by the @mi6-cafe​.

For 31 days we celebrate all things Bond by

writing fics / headcanons / metas

watching movies / having readalongs

posting recipes

commenting on the Bond creations of others

taking part in the Scavenger Hunt

We do all this because it’s fun and because it’s a competition for prizes–although you can take part and not compete for points and have a chance to win a prize and also have just as much fun. 🤪

Classic Literature #1 - 2021

I started Classic Literature as part of last year’s 007 Fest.  I thought it was a fun combination of my job as an English teacher and my love for this fandom.  I take images of our favorite characters and match them with quotations from pieces of literature (though, sometimes slightly modified).  I hope you enjoy this year’s offerings.

Grilled Langoustines

Q and Eve love eating together.  Homemade, takeaway, dine out, it doesn’t matter.  Food and wine are their love languages for one another, even if that love is purely platonic.  From practically the moment Eve confessed in the lift to Q about having killed (or so she thought) 007, food has been the way they connect and share with one another.  He’d taken her out for sushi that night, and somewhere between the Dragon rolls, the Spicy Tuna rolls, and more sake than either of them care to remember -- if they could remember, it was a lot of sake, after all -- they’d realised they were soul besties.  

One of their favourite places to eat is Bocca Di Lupo, a small Italian restaurant in Soho.  The food is off the charts amazing, but particularly the Langoustine with Garlic, Chilli, and Coriander.  The langoustines come out so tender and flavourful, and the sauce is perfect for sopping up with chunks of rustic bread.  

Bocca Di Lupo is also close to Q’s favourite lingerie shop, Masqueline, and with James coming home from a long assignment in a few days, perhaps it’s time he and Evie go shopping for some new sexy togs in silk and lace and have some lunch afterward. Langoustines with Garlic, Chilli, and Coriander

INGREDIENTS

1/2 garlic clove

1 red chilli

1/2 bunch of coriander

1 lemon

150ml olive oil

Very small pinch of crushed dried chillies

20 langoustines

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

PREPARATION

Heat the grill to its highest setting. Peel and crush the garlic and halve, deseed and very finely chop the chilli. Coarsely chop the coriander leaves and juice the lemon. Put half the olive oil in a small saucepan, add the crushed dried chillies and garlic and gently warm over a low heat for 2–3 minutes, then remove from the heat and leave to infuse while you prepare the langoustines for grilling (see footnote). Pour the cool, infused oil into a large bowl, add the langoustines and toss to coat. Place the langoustines shell side down on a lipped baking tray, season with salt and a little pepper and grill for 3–5 minutes, depending on size. Halfway through cooking, baste the langoustines with any remaining infused oil from the bowl. Meanwhile, add 1 tablespoon lemon juice to the remaining olive oil with the chopped chilli, coriander and some salt and pepper. Once cooked, the langoustine tail meat will have turned opaque and will be starting to shrink a little from the shell. While still hot, drizzle over the dressing. Serve immediately. To prepare a langoustine for grilling...

Put the langoustine belly side down on a board and cut down through the head and tail to divide in half.

Remove the grit or stomach sac from each langoustine half.

Remove the intestinal tract from the tail. Any liver in the head area can be left in or spooned out and used in a sauce.

For Rare Pair Week, @notwhatyouthoughtiwas​, @boffin1710​, and I have put together head canon cards for the relationship between James Bond (written by me), Q (written by Boffin), and Alec Trevelyan (written by Ashe).  Each set of cards will focus on a specific head canon we have for this trio.  This is a continuation of last year’s head canon sets.  See the other author’s blogs to get the full head canon.  We hope you enjoy them!

Not Even a Lifetime

Quartermaster Chernobyl A sequel to “They’re Only Words” by Boffin1710 and Dassandre.

The lift doors slid open and Q stormed through them.  He spun on his heel and jammed his finger on the button that would take him down to the ground floor.  He needed out of this building now!  He wouldn’t be responsible for what he might do should anyone else summon the lift and slow his progress. Those utter cockwombles!  Yes, Prime Minister, you towheaded prat.  You and that bloody cow of a Foreign Secretary.  Both of you!  Cockwombles!  Q snarled in his head. Why in the fuck did they even bother to employ him if they weren’t going to listen?  Their personal, ‘expert’ understanding of the threats against the UK and how to go about effectively combating wouldn’t even fill a thimble.  And that thimble clearly leaked like a sieve because Q and M had just finished another meeting -- the second this month -- explaining to them exactly what they had explained not a fortnight ago. Espionage is messy, you twats!  If you truly want to intercept and eliminate the threats before they become a tangible risk, you have to be ready to get your hands dirty.  The bad guys don’t play by the rules, so sometimes we can’t either, for fuck’s sake! “Do more!  Do it faster!  Oh, but we’re going to cut your budget by 15 percent.  And did we mention the handcuffs we’re slapping on you etched with ‘Civilian Oversight Committee’?  Bloody bastards!  Just fuck me up the arse without lube and call it done!  It would hurt less!” Q growled under his breath. He ran his hand through his hair. Damn it!  He was shaking.  This had been his third utterly pointless meeting today.  He didn’t people well on the best of days, and Q hadn’t had a best day in … he couldn’t remember how long. He was stretched thin.  Exhausted.  His mind was a whirl of too much data and too many confusing emotions that he never processed well.  His skin was crawling.  His focus techniques were completely beyond his grasp.  He hadn’t had a meltdown in five years, but he could feel it itching under his skin. God!  There was no way he’d be able to get somewhere quiet and isolated before he lost control.  It was going to happen in the middle of Whitehall! He was going to get arrested! “Q?” Lose his job! “Q?” Sectioned! “Q!” Q’s head snapped up.  The lift doors had opened and there -- framed by gleaming silver like the archangel Michael himself -- stood 009, Rand Aguilar.  Read the rest on Ao3!

Another amazing Fest has come to an end, and I am so proud and amazed by the fabulous works of fanfiction and art (of all kinds) we have had shared with us this month. My thanks to the MI6 mods and to all the brilliant minions of TeamQBranch.  It was an honor to be one of your co-captains this year.  I look forward to next year, but I’m ready for a bit of a break and a chance to read and look at all the pieces I didn’t have a chance to do that with.
