Congrats on your one year! ❤️ may I order a tiramisu with Hobie and bounty hunter!R arguing about how they do their vigilante work until R accidentally reveals why she takes paid jobs (provide for family/ relative by anonymously sending them money out of guilt for making their family think they’re dead)?
You can change up the prompt to best suit your writing imagination 😚🥹
@hyperfix-wip
Crossroads
Bard! Hobie x Bounty Hunter! fem! reader
I had a lot of fun with this as you can see. There are very mature themes including blood, violence, and implied assault. Please read at your own discretion. I tried my best to keep it vague.
Word count: 3,070
~
What does a bounty hunter and a bard have in common? Absolutely nothing. Why pose such a question you may ask? It’s because you’ve had the unfortunate privilege of learning this answer.
How much longer you’ll have to endure endless rambling you do not know. What you do know is you would gladly kill this man for free.
It started over four weeks ago. Enough time to witness all of the phases of the moon.
A measly drink, a moment of peace was all you wanted when the bard came crashing into the stool beside you.
Now, normally this would not have provoked you to action but after having a very high ranking target stolen from right under you. It’s safe to say you needed to blow off some steam.
You paid the barkeep for all of the damages and stepped over the groaning drunkards on your way out. Who had started and likely would have continued an all out bar fight with every patron.
Either way you were ready to retire when the bard came stumbling out. Hair braided into several and tied back by a leather band. You can recall just how irritating the conversation was then.
No matter how much you tried to deny his praises, he assumed you a hero. Trying to invoke a life debt that was quite common to pirates. You were not interested.
He stayed anyway.
You figured after a time he would come to his senses and eventually sneak off when he thought you weren’t looking. Violence did that to people. It pushed them away.
His name was Hobart Brown but he insisted on being called Hobie. He dubbed you Lily after spotting a field of lily of the valley and also because you would not provide him with your name. ‘Pretty but deadly’ he said.
He wanted to travel by the Great Sea and find adventure. You almost felt sorry for the poor sod and he must have noticed because he reassured you that being in your debt did not create a dent on his plans.
You could tell he was fascinated with you. You knew that would be short lived as you cocked your pistol and killed a man you recognized from a town bulletin board. He was worth five hundred gold.
Hobie was off put. Expression wary and heavy as he asked you that night by the campfire who you were. You simply responded 'bounty hunter' and continued stoking the fire.
When you awoke he was still there. Saddling the horses and murmuring that the next town over would be less than a day’s travel.
You did not show your surprise as you slid out of your bed roll and prepared to depart. You felt uneasy the entire trip there. It was silent between the two of you even after you passed the town’s gate.
You’re unsure of why but perhaps it’s because his company has lifted a weight off of your shoulders that you stop him by the shoulder and check into an inn. Spending more coin than you would on yourself for a more than decent room and food that you ask to be sent to his just across the hall. A proper place to rest instead of dirt clearings and forest floors.
When you sit in the first warm bath you’ve had in months it dawns on you what you’ve done. You can’t afford any setbacks. He needs to go.
You cannot handle this kind of guilt in your heart that will inevitably follow you when you have to complete a bounty so you’ll leave first thing in the morning.
-
A quiet knock at your door stops you. Midcount of the gold and copper pieces in your pouch. They all clink together as you let them slid back into the leather bag.
“Yes?”
Hobie’s face immediately brightens when he catches your eye. A grin you've grown accustomed to. A stark contrast to the relaxed line of your lips.
“Good evening darling. Would you like to accompany me to the nearest tavern? I would say I owe you a drink.”
You give him a pointed look.
“Come on!” He laughs. Resting against the doorframe of your large room. “I know you are just as bored out of your mind as me. We can come right back if you’re still not up to it after one drink.”
Is it the way he smiles at you that gets you or the small quirk of his brow? The challenge. You have to wonder if the man is secretly a siren. It would match with his profession of choice.
“Fine, meet me downstairs in ten minutes.”
You don’t think you’ve ever seen a man sprint to his room like his life depended on it.
The nicest thing you owned was a flowy white dress that hung onto your shoulders and went just above your knees. The holster of your gun still fits snugly around your waist along with the pouch of coin you have since emptied to seem less heavy.
It isn’t particularly cold so you don’t take your signature coat with you. In a flourish you’re out the door and waiting with the fae handing out room keys and pretty smiles.
Not a minute later you catch the sound of the steps creaking and you swiftly move around. “Took you long enough. I was beginning to-” You caught yourself before you could finish that sentence but it didn’t seem like he caught on to your blunder.
He was looking at you with a slight part of his lips. It made your hair stand on end.
Hobie could now clearly see your figure. He could see more skin than you had previously shown in the last thirty two days. Heavens did you look beautiful.
He promptly cleared his throat and gestured toward the door. “Shall we?”
He let out a sigh of relief as soon as your attention was off of him.
Kill him, kill him now.
-
The walk to the tavern was short. The loud bumbling and bustling patrons spilling out the windows meant to look like painting archways. Sets of tables outside of the tavern as well which was new but not all that surprising. The population was bigger here compared to the last town.
Hobie stumbles and almost falls flat on his face as a boisterous woman steps into his path. You’re quick to catch him. Pulling him to your side with a firm grip around his waist. The woman apologies but it's obvious by the ale on her breath that she does not really mean it.
You look up to check on your companion only to find him already staring at you. With the same distant look he gave you at the inn.
“What?”
“Nothing,” he answers. Raking his eyes over your face before smiling. “Let’s go in.”
You roll your eyes at his obvious lie. Ignoring how it bothers you that you want to know what he is thinking.
A set of two glasses is set before you. Filled to the brim with froth coating the top of the glass. Apple cider. The town specialty given by the apple orchards the two of you passed on the way in.
You’re ready to slide your pouch off of your belt when a hand stops you.
“I’ll get it.” Hobie grins—fairy feathers doesn’t that hurt his face?—and hands a handsome amount of coin into the barmaid’s hand.
She’s ecstatic to which Hobie responds with a wink. It causes a pit to form in your stomach and you find yourself reaching for your mug to find something else to do with your mouth than scowl.
“Eager are we?” Hobie teases. Reaching for his own glass and taking a drink. He moans as soon as the liquid hits his tongue. “This must be made of liquid gold.”
You have to agree as your shoulders relax. The crisp taste is so satisfying you’re tempted to take bigger gulps.
Hobie smiles as he admires you behind his glass. He has to stop himself from reaching out and wiping away the froth from your lip. Thank the stars you are too distracted to notice.
“So,” Hobie hums,“was I right in taking you out of your room?”
He avoids using the word cage like he had planned to because he does take into account how luxurious the space they were staying in was. It wouldn’t be very proper of him to degrade the money she spent. Even as a joke.
You only nodded as you took the time to scan your surroundings. Everyone was having a good time. Glossy eyes and rosy cheeks were proof of that but you could never be too careful.
Hobie frowns but doesn’t say a word. Just shifts in his chair and tries to find something clever to say.
“How is your knee?” You ask above the cheers and laughter. “The foal took a pretty nasty hit to you.”
Hobie laughs. He looks pleased at the way you initiate conversation. It feels as though he is always the one talking.
“Oh, that. I’m fine. Was my fault for getting in her space anyway.”
Your lips break into a smile at that. “You should consider yourself lucky that it was her and not the mare.”
Hobie shivers at the thought. Bigger horse shoe, bigger hit. Yeah, that would not have gone well.
“I’m normally very good with animals, you can’t blame me,” he pouts.
That peaks your curiosity and yet again, he is perceptive enough to see this.
“I was born on a farm.” He grins again as he explains. “With more than a dozen cattle and sheep. We didn’t have horses though.”
Well, you might as well humor him.
“So your family owned land in the Northern region. That’s pretty far from where I found you.”
Hobie would fist pump the air if he could. Hook, line, and sinker. “Yeah?” He leans forward. “You know where that is?”
You nod, taking another sip of your cider and sighing. “I’ve never traveled up there. Aren’t many jobs and I haven’t found the need to explore.”
Hobie stiffens and glances at the holster holding your gun. “Right.” He licks his lips. His voice wasn’t as steady as he would have liked. “And you? Where do you come from? Because I’m certain it wasn’t from daisies.”
A chuckle leaves your lips that sounds more like a huff. “You do not know that. Haven’t you heard of the legends?”
“Ah, yes,” he pauses. Relaxing again as he slouches in his chair. “You truly want me to believe you came from stardust and laughter?”
“It’s startdust and happiness actually,” you correct. Smiling as you feel the bubbles of cider in your belly.
“Happiness,” he nods. Clicking his tongue as he grins. “Forgive me.”
You again, roll your eyes at his playfulness. Clinking your glass with your finger as you look off to the side. He still wants an answer, you know it.
You perk up as you notice a crowd gathering around a table. The perfect distraction. With a smile you reach for his hand and pull him with you. It doesn’t matter if your heart jumps into your throat at how warm his palms feel against your own. It was a necessary course of action. To protect yourself of course.
<
Commercial break - You’re almost 2,000 words in, take a break. If a project, work, or homework is staring you in the face, go finish it and come back. The story will still be here 💕
>
You’re laughing. Actually laughing as you leave the tavern with your head on his shoulder.
“I can’t believe you did that!” Hobie exhales. Disbelief still etched in his features as he kept his grin. “Where did you- how did you-”
“Family secret!” You snicker. A bit lightheaded from all of the alcohol you had just consumed. Ten times lighter but ten times heavier in coin after winning the bet.
“Oh so now you’re not even going to share that with me?” He guwaffs. Also a bit buzzed but definitely sober enough for the two of you.
“Fine fine,” you grumble. Squinting your eyes and scrunching your nose. “The secret is- my secret is-” A hiccup interrupts you but so does a cry of pain. You immediately sober up as your eyes dart toward a darker pathway of the town.
Hobie calls after you and soon he’s hot on your heels as you race to your destination.
Pain was something you were familiar with. You dealt with it every day. Whether you were inflicting it or someone was inflicting it upon you. You recognized it. It was what you lived for now.
A sort of numbness followed. It was a comfortable routine. Find the target, pull the trigger, find the next. But right now there was a panic and fear you hadn’t felt in years. Not since this entire ordeal first began.
You don’t think. It’s muscle memory at this point as you toss a man flat on his back. Cobblestone digging into his shoulders.
You can faintly hear the cry of the woman he was previously above. Hobie’s soft voice rushing to comfort the woman. That causes some of the fear to dissipate but not all of it.
It’s fist after fist and the blunt end of your pistol as you scramble to get some footing. Something to put you on top.
With a harsh shove to the path the man’s face comes to light. You recognize it in your haze. The sketch of his picture. The number under his name. You could do that, you could fix this issue no problem.
The cock of your gun snaps Hobie out of his frenzy. Eyes wide as he quickly rushes the girl to get out before she witnesses something to add more to her trauma.
The gurgle of the man’s throat is the next thing he hears as you hold him down with the heel of your boot.
“No, no, no-” he calls out. Grabbing you by the waist and tugging back so hard you both fall. The first shot rings out and hits one of the lanterns lighting the pathway.
“This isn’t the way to do this love!” He begs, pleas with you.
You struggle in his grip as the man in front of you finally manages to catch his bearings. Wobbling onto his knees as tears sting in your own eyes.
The second shot narrowly misses his boot. Hitting a stone before rolling away into the dirt.
The third you take as Hobie grips your arm. Opposite hand gripping tightly over your wrist as you close one eye and aim. It’s like clock work. As simple and easy as breathing.
The shell clatters to the ground and so does his body. The sight makes you nauseous.
Hobie finally manages to wrap his hand around your gun and toss it away. He doesn’t know where. His heart is beating too fast to understand.
For a moment you both sit there with heavy breath. Staring at the dead man that will owe you eight hundred gold pieces once you turn his body over along with his wanted poster.
“Love…” Hobie’s voice sounds so utterly broken that it brings you back to reality.
You reach up as you feel how sticky with tears your cheeks have become. When did you start crying?
“Love,” he repeats. More strength in his voice when he turns you around to face him. “Why would you do that?”
Why? Your brows furrow in anger. Hurt. Why? He’s asking you why?
This isn’t the way to do this
“You- do you even understand what you’ve done?” He shakes his head. He himself is shaking. “Do you just shoot everything that gets in your way? That brings you coin?”
He sounds so accusing. Like you are the one that has done something wrong. You look back to the man. Pooled in his own blood.
“Is that what you think?” You finally manage to say. Fingers curling into your soiled white dress. “That I do this for the satisfaction of money?”
You find the strength to push away and stand on your own two feet because that is what you have always done.
You turn to look down at the man before you. The man you were beginning to trust. The one you were willing to give your heart to if only in your dreams because you had no one else. Because at least someone would know you existed in this life. Laughed, cried, loved.
“I don’t do this because I enjoy putting a bullet between someone’s skull!”
Hobie cowers as you step closer and that only makes your heart ache more. Placing your finger fight at the base of his skull with your hand in the universally understood gesture of a gun.
“I do it for this!” You grip onto the pouch on your side. Tugging on it so the coins scatter like locusts. “All of this because that’s all I’m good for! That’s all I can provide for my family!”
Your chest hurts as you smack your hand against it. How many times have you placed a bullet there too? Counting the man on the ground, plenty.
“I don’t want to do this,” you choke. Throat feeling tight like there was a hand squeezing at its base.
You regret letting your guard down. Drinking like you didn’t have a care in the world when in fact, you did.
“I don’t want to do this.”
You sob as you fall to your knees and Hobie can’t stop himself from reaching for you and pulling you into his chest as you cry.
“I can’t do this anymore,” you whisper. The cider pushing forward the thoughts you held back in the deepest part of your mind.
‘How shameful’ he would say when you returned. ‘Your family shouldn’t need you after all’. Then he would shoot you dead in his office much like you did countless times before tonight.
Hobie held you so tight someone might wonder if you could breath. His own tears rolling down his cheeks as he hides the mark he’s found on your neck. A number with the symbol of the king.
Hobie regrets his poor choice of words but shit can you blame him? He cries into your neck as he vows to repay his debt to you.
A life, for a life.

Organizing a Successful Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser
When it comes to hosting a successful pancake breakfast fundraiser, proper organization is key. By following these steps, you can ensure that your event runs smoothly and raises the funds you need. 1. Planning and Preparation Before diving into the details, it's important to have a clear plan in mind. Determine your fundraising goals, target audience, and available resources. Prepare a budget and make a list of all the supplies you will need, such as pancake mix, toppings, utensils, and decorations. 2. Choosing the Right Venue The location of your fundraiser can greatly impact its success. Ideally, you want a venue that is easily accessible, has enough space for all your guests, and provides necessary amenities such as a kitchen or cooking area. Consider hosting your event at a local community center, school cafeteria, or even a small hotel. Pro tip: If your venue doesn't have a suitable cooking area, you could hire a food truck or catering service to cook the pancakes on-site. 3. Promoting Your Event To attract a larger crowd, it's important to promote your pancake breakfast fundraiser effectively. Utilize social media platforms, local newspapers, community bulletin boards, and word of mouth to spread the word. Create eye-catching flyers or share posts online with enticing visuals of delicious pancakes and syrup. Consider partnering with other local businesses to help promote the event. 4. Theme and Decorations Add an extra fun touch to your pancake breakfast fundraiser by incorporating a theme. Whether it's a Hawaiian luau, a sports-themed event, or a simple color scheme, having a themed event can make it more memorable and enjoyable for your attendees. Use themed decorations, tablecloths, and banners to create a festive atmosphere. 5. Perfecting the Pancakes The star of the event is, of course, the pancakes themselves. Be sure to have a team of skilled cooks who can whip up delicious and perfectly cooked pancakes. Experiment with different flavors and add-ins such as berries, funfetti, or sliced bananas to cater to different tastes. Don't forget to offer a variety of toppings like syrup, butter, sprinkles, and whipped cream to make the pancakes even more enticing. 6. Negotiating with Suppliers To maximize your profits, negotiate with suppliers and find the best deals on pancake mix, toppings, and other supplies. Bulk purchasing can help you save money, so reach out to local supermarkets or wholesale stores to see if they can offer you a discounted price or donate some items to your cause. 7. Day-of Event Management On the day of the fundraiser, ensure that you have enough volunteers to help with various tasks. Assign roles such as setup, cooking, serving, cashiering, and cleanup. Have a clear plan in place for managing the flow of guests and ensure that there are enough supplies and utensils available. Be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances and have contingency plans in mind. 8. Making it Profitable To make your pancake breakfast fundraiser profitable, consider offering additional items for sale, such as beverages, breakfast sides, or even themed merchandise. You could also organize small games or raffles to further engage attendees and encourage additional donations. By diversifying your offerings, you increase the chances of raising more funds for your cause. By following these steps and keeping in mind the tips mentioned, you can organize a successful pancake breakfast fundraiser that not only raises funds but also provides a fun and memorable experience for all those involved.
Hiring Professional Organizers
When hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser, it's important to have a well-organized and smoothly executed event. Hiring professional organizers can make a world of difference in ensuring that everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Professional organizers bring a variety of skills and expertise to the table. They can help with a wide range of tasks such as planning the event timeline, negotiating with suppliers for necessary supplies, and managing the logistics of the breakfast. With their help, you can focus on promoting the fundraiser and ensuring its success. One of the key benefits of hiring professional organizers is that they have experience with hosting similar events. They know what works and what doesn't, and can offer valuable insights on how to make your pancake breakfast fundraiser more profitable. They can also provide guidance on choosing the ideal amount of pancake batter to make, based on the number of attendees. In addition, professional organizers can assist with creating a menu that will appeal to a wide variety of tastes. They can help you choose from a range of pancake flavors, such as classic buttermilk pancakes, funfetti pancakes with sprinkles, or even pancakes with berries or sliced strawberries. They can also suggest a variety of syrups, including maple syrup or flavored syrups like blueberry or strawberry. Furthermore, professional organizers can help ensure that your breakfast is accessible to the community. They can assist in finding a venue, such as a local school or hotel, that is easily reachable for attendees. They can also help you provide options for those with dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free or vegan pancakes, and suggest a variety of juices like orange, apple, or limeade. Professional organizers can also take care of the labor-intensive tasks involved in hosting a pancake breakfast. They can oversee the setup and breakdown of the event, manage the flow of attendees, and coordinate with volunteers or hired staff. With their help, you can focus on interacting with guests and making sure everyone has a memorable experience. In summary, hiring professional organizers for your pancake breakfast fundraiser can be a game-changer. They bring expertise, experience, and lots of helpful ideas to the table. By taking care of the logistical aspects, they allow you to focus on promoting the event, selling tickets, and making it a fun and profitable community gathering. So, if you want to ensure the success of your next pancake breakfast fundraiser, consider hiring professional organizers.
Plan your event well in advance
Planning is an important aspect of any successful pancake breakfast fundraiser. To ensure that your event runs smoothly and attracts a lot of attendees, it's crucial to start preparing well in advance. Here are some key steps to consider when planning your pancake breakfast: 1. Set a date and time: Choose a date and time that works best for your community. Consider any other local events taking place that could potentially compete with your fundraiser. Ideally, you want to choose a time when more people are likely to attend, such as a weekend morning. 2. Find the perfect location: Look for a suitable venue that can accommodate a large number of people. This could be a local school, community center, or even a hotel conference room. Depending on the size of the event, negotiate with the venue to see if they could provide the space at a discounted rate or for free, keeping in mind that accessibility and parking are important factors. 3. Gather supplies and equipment: - Choose the right pancake mix: Look for a mix that is easy to use and yields a thick and fluffy pancake. - Consider a variety of toppings: Syrup, berries, sprinkles, and even funfetti can add a fun and tasty twist to your pancakes. - Ensure you have enough cooking equipment: Griddles, spatulas, mixing bowls, measuring cups, and water pitchers will be essential for cooking and serving the pancakes. - Don't forget paper plates, napkins, and utensils: These items will be needed for attendees to enjoy their pancakes. 4. Recruit volunteers: Organizing a pancake breakfast fundraiser requires a lot of helping hands. Reach out to your community, school, or other local organizations to find volunteers who can assist with various tasks, such as cooking, serving, and promoting the event. 5. Promote your event: Create a marketing plan to spread the word about your pancake breakfast. Utilize social media, local newspapers, community bulletin boards, and word-of-mouth to ensure maximum visibility. 6. Set the perfect price: Decide on a reasonable ticket price that will cover the cost of supplies, equipment, and venue rental, while still being affordable for potential attendees. Consider offering a discounted price for children or a family bundle ticket option. 7. Prepare for the big day: Ensure that all necessary supplies and equipment are in place before the event. Test your cooking equipment to verify that everything is in working order. Set up tables and chairs, organize cooking stations, and decorate the venue to create a welcoming atmosphere. 8. Have fun and stay organized: On the day of the event, assign specific tasks to volunteers to ensure a smooth flow of operations. Keep track of ticket sales and funds raised. Remember to enjoy the pancake breakfast fundraiser yourself and foster a positive, community-centered environment. By following these tips and guidelines, you will be well on your way to hosting a successful pancake breakfast fundraiser that brings the community together and raises funds for your cause.
Come up with a Commercially Viable Idea
When it comes to hosting a successful pancake breakfast fundraiser, the first step is to come up with a commercially viable idea. You want to choose something that will not only appeal to the community but also generate a significant amount of sales. One idea is to offer a variety of pancakes, ranging from traditional buttermilk to funfetti and strawberry. You could even have a toppings bar with sliced berries, syrup, and other delicious options. This will not only attract more customers but also give them a wider variety to choose from. Another idea is to offer a thicker, fluffier pancake option for those who prefer a heartier breakfast. This can be done by adding extra baking powder or even a touch of whipped cream to the batter. By providing this variety, you can cater to different tastes and preferences. When it comes to promoting your pancake breakfast fundraiser, there are several ways to spread the word. Utilize social media platforms to create buzz and share mouthwatering pictures of your pancakes. Be sure to mention the date, time, and location of the event, as well as any other important details. If you want to go the extra mile, consider reaching out to local media outlets and ask if they would be interested in covering your event. This can help increase the visibility of your fundraiser and attract even more attendees. Don't forget to thank your sponsors and supporters on social media as well. Before finalizing your idea, it's important to consider the logistical side of things. Think about the supplies you will need, such as pancake mix, cooking utensils, and small disposable plates and cutlery. You should also decide whether you will be cooking the pancakes yourself or if you will hire a professional cook. Once you have chosen your commercially viable idea and started planning for the event, it's time to negotiate with potential sponsors and partners. Look for local hotels or catering companies that may be interested in supplying pancake mix or syrup. This can save you money and ensure a steady supply of ingredients. By putting thought into your idea and taking the time to plan, you will increase the chances of having a successful pancake breakfast fundraiser. Remember to keep the community in mind and make the event as accessible as possible. Good luck!
Select a date and time that is convenient for most people
When planning your pancake breakfast fundraiser, one of the first things you'll want to do is choose a date and time that is convenient for most people. This will ensure that you have a good turnout and maximize the success of your event. Here are some tips to help you decide on the perfect date and time: - Consider the time of year: Think about the time of year when you want to hold your pancake breakfast fundraiser. Some seasons may be busier than others, so you'll want to take that into account. For example, if you're planning the event around a holiday like Thanksgiving, you may want to avoid weekends when people may be traveling or hosting their own gatherings. - Check the school calendar: If you're organizing the fundraiser for a school, be sure to check the academic calendar for any major school events or holidays. You'll want to avoid scheduling the pancake breakfast on the same day as other school activities to ensure maximum participation. - Consider meal times: Pancake breakfasts are traditionally held in the morning, so you'll want to choose a time that falls within a typical breakfast hour. This can vary depending on your community and target audience, but aiming for a start time between 8 am and 10 am is usually a good bet. - Check for community events: Take a look at any community events or activities happening around the same time as your planned fundraiser. If there are already a lot of events going on, it may be harder to attract attendees. On the other hand, if there aren't many other events scheduled, you'll have a higher chance of success. - Consider accessibility: Make sure the location you choose for your pancake breakfast fundraiser is easily accessible for most people. If you're hosting it at a school, consider any parking restrictions or bus routes. If you're renting a space, ensure that it has adequate parking and is easily reached by public transportation. - Negotiate your venue: If you decide to host your pancake breakfast fundraiser at a hotel or other rented space, it's always worth trying to negotiate a good deal. Don't be afraid to ask for a discounted rate or additional amenities. The more you can save on the venue, the more money you'll have available for your cause. - Consider the weather: While you can't control the weather, it's always a good idea to check the forecast before setting the date for your pancake breakfast fundraiser. Inclement weather could affect attendance, so try to choose a date when the weather is expected to be favorable. - Promote your event on social media: Once you have selected a date and time, make sure to promote your pancake breakfast fundraiser on social media. Create event pages and share them on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. You can also reach out to local media outlets to see if they would be interested in covering your event. By considering these factors and taking the time to plan your pancake breakfast fundraiser carefully, you'll be able to select a date and time that works best for your community and maximize attendance. Good luck!
Choose an ideal location
When it comes to hosting a successful pancake breakfast fundraiser, choosing the right location is crucial. The ideal location should be easily accessible to your target audience and have enough space to accommodate the number of guests you expect. Consider hosting the event at a local school, community center, or park, as these venues are often affordable and provide ample space for breakfasts. Another important point to consider is the theme of your pancake breakfast. If you decide to have a themed event, such as a "Pancakes and Pajamas" party or a "Breakfast for Dinner" fundraiser, you may want to choose a location that complements the theme. For instance, if you're hosting a pancake breakfast at a school, you could negotiate with the cafeteria to use their facilities. When choosing the location, also think about the amount of labor and resources you'll need. If you expect a large turnout, it might be better to find a location that offers kitchen facilities, so you can cook and serve pancakes more efficiently. Read the full article

Minimum Volume Requirement for Bulk Mailing
In the digital age, it may seem strange that bulk business mail advertising techniques have continued to perform so well. However, when properly planned and prepared, they continue to provide a low cost way to connect with your current and potential customers.
Bulk mailings are large quantities of marketing (formerly known as Standard Mail) and presorted First-Class Mail that qualify for reduced postage rates because the sender performs some of the Postal Service labor of sorting, addressing, enclosing and labeling of the mail. Mail that qualifies for these discounted rates includes flyers, brochures, advertising, circulars, newsletters and bulletins, lightweight merchandise and catalogs.
Departments are not allowed to prepare their own bulk mailing services as they must meet U.S. Postal Service bulk mailing guidelines and the Mail Center cannot guarantee that all preparation will meet those requirements. Instead, departments are encouraged to work with one of several vendors that have been pre-approved by Distribution Services. If your department plans to use an external vendor, please contact them early in the process to avoid delay and to allow enough time for the outside company to prepare the mailing according to USPS standards.
All mail mailed at bulk mailing rates must be preprinted with the proper indicia and the unique permit number. If you are planning to use an external vendor, you must also submit a sample of the complete mailing to Distribution Services for review and approval prior to sending it out to be processed. The sample should be marked with your budget number and must include a blue departmental mail slip.

Anxiety
kuroo x reader
summary: you hide your anxiety from basically everyone including your boyfriend, until he finds out for himself
genre: hurt/comfort
warnings: Emetophobia Warning! description of nausea/vomit, anxiety, bit of angst but ends in fluff
word count: 2.0k
a/n: I tried to make this as close to my anxiety since I hadn’t known anyone with my kind of anxiety(symptom wise) until I was seventeen, which was a good ways into when I realized I had anxiety. So here is some nausea anxiety representation!
masterlist
You tap your fingers in a mindless rhythm. Alternating the fingers and repeating them back and forth, trying to make it a game, a challenge. You did this over and over again to distract yourself from that all too familiar sinking feeling. That feeling like your stomach has managed to twist and knot itself a million times. Each bump of the bus made acid crawl up your throat. You crunched a mint in your mouth hoping the peppermint would soothe some of the nausea. It didn’t, but the thought was there. You just will yourself not to throw up on the bus, anything but that. The thought in itself makes you even more nervous, and in turn even sicker.
You don’t even know why you are anxious. Today is Kuroo’s big game, but it isn’t yours. You’ve been to a hundred of his games before but never before did you feel like this. Normally you get cute little butterflies, not an angry swarm of bees. The worst part is, there is Kuroo sat next to you happy as can be, completely oblivious. He keeps trying to drag you into conversations but you fear if you open your mouth for too long, all that will come up is vomit. So you keep your mouth firmly closed only smiling tightly or shaking your head at his prompts.
It's not exactly his fault though. He doesn’t actually know you have anxiety. It’s not something you really like to talk about. You are all for promoting the acceptance of mental health but you just find every time you tell someone the dynamic changes. Either they flat out don’t believe you since you “don’t seem like the type with anxiety”. Well duh, I don’t have social anxiety, I have situational anxiety. Like here in this situation. That or they suddenly treat me like I am incapable of handling myself. That whenever a slightly stressful event comes up, I am going to melt into a puddle of pure anxiety. Sorry but I’ve made it this far, I may have to throw up a few times on the way but I am still making it.
So you just haven’t told Kuroo. You're just nervous that it will change the dynamic. You also don’t want to steal his spotlight. Today is supposed to be all about him. It's his big game. To suddenly speak up and tell him that his game is giving you anxiety would be selfish. So like you always have, you put a brave face on and face it head-on.
“Hey, are you okay?” Kuroo asks you, now facing you, “You look a little pale.”
“Hmm?,” You also turn to look at him, “Oh I am just a bit tired that’s all. I will be fine in an hour or so.” You hope at least. He nods relieved it's not something worse.
You finally pull into the stadium and everyone is pushing their way off the bus. Luckily Kuroo is right by you to make sure you don't get accidentally pushed down the bus stairs and trampled. The team makes it’s to the bulletin board where they are given their matchups. Nekoma is paired with a pretty hard team. Suddenly, out of nowhere, you dry heave. You knew at the point you were going to throw up and within the next few minutes.
“Hey I think I left something in the bus I’ll be right back.” You say to Kuroo before dashing off. He goes to reply but you are already gone.
You make it around the back of the building before you throw up. At this point you’re kinda out of it, your mind is occupied on emptying your already empty stomach. Then you feel someone pull your hair back and gently rub your back. You don’t even have to look up to know it’s Kuroo. When you finish he hands you his water bottle. You waterfall it and rinse your mouth out of that acidic taste.
“What’s going on are you okay?” Kuroo asks full of concern. You hesitate for a moment, thinking of telling the truth. Then you remember this is supposed to be his day.
“Sorry I must have caught a stomach bug.” He doesn’t completely buy it so you quickly add to it.
“I didn't feel great on the bus but I just thought it was because I was tired.” You feel bad lying, “I also don’t want to distract you before your game.” At that Kuroo quickly pulls you into a hug, “Your not a distraction, I just want to make sure you’re okay.” Your cheek is pressed against his chest and your hands grip the front of his shirt.
“We should probably head back.” You mumble.
“Yeah.” He leans down to kiss you but you duck away. He looks incredibly offended and hurt at this.
“Dude I just threw up I don’t know if you want to do that.”
“…Point.”
The two of you head back inside to the team, you feeling much better after throwing up. Before you know it, the competition has begun and Nekoma has won. You run down and celebrate with the team and it’s a happy day.
On the bus ride home Kuroo has a strange energy about him. Not like he’s mad more just like he’s just realized something. You nudge him and smile hoping to break him out of his little funk. He immediately smiles back and goes back to celebrating with the team. His reaction was almost like putting a mask on. You watch him for a moment before slipping into a conversation of your own.
When you make it back to school you go your separate ways. Him going to shower, and you to get home before it gets too late. A big hug before pushing away. You still refusing to kiss him after throwing up earlier in the day.
You are laying on your bed, exhausted. Anxiety really takes a toll on your energy. Your thoughts are broken when your phone chimes with a text. Leaning over to grab your phone off your bedside table you see it is from Kuroo.
“Can you come over? I want to talk.”
No cute pet names. No slowly easing into it. Actually using proper grammar. Nothing in that message was a good sign. Just “I want to talk” was enough to make the acid begin to crawl again. You knew it had to be about today. Especially after you saw him zoning out on the bus. It had to be your anxiety episode. You knew he wouldn’t be happy you lied but going to this extent. Like he just found out you have anxiety and this is what he hits you with? The world’s most nerve-wracking text message. The only worse place than this would be “we need to talk”. That’s when you have really screwed up. So maybe you’ve only minorly screwed up since he said want not need. Does that mean you have the choice to say no? That was kind of tempting but you knew you would be tossing and turning all night thinking about what might be wrong.
“Okay.” You reply to the text. Short and sweet. Putting on some shoes and grabbing a hoodie, you quietly slip out of your house. Kuroo’s house wasn’t too far but it was far enough. Enough to continue to stir in your intrusive and unstoppable thoughts. You eventually make it to his house and head in going straight for his room. Before you reach the door you hesitate and gather yourself. Preparing for whatever was about to come.
When you go in you find Kuroo sat on the floor of his bedroom, back pressed against the bed. He jerkily looks up and you and gives you a tight smile. None of this is giving good signs. Something is very heavy on his mind. You sit down across from him, your back against the wall your feet almost touching.
“So what was it you wanting to talk about.” You break the silence. He doesn’t respond for a moment. Just as you are about to try again he speaks up.
“Do you still love me?” Your face drops into confusion.
“Why wouldn’t I love you anymore?” You ask, suddenly realizing this wasn’t the conversation you were prepping yourself for.
“You’ve been distant lately. You don’t tell me things like when you don’t feel good. I thought about it when I got home and I was wondering if you weren’t actually sick but just making the excuse because you got caught.” He’s very serious at the moment and his words hold a cold edge.
“What do you mean get caught?” You match his tone. You weren’t planning on fighting but something about how he said it just set something off in you.
“You didn’t want to be there. Ever since this morning you were quiet and reserved. Even after the game, you wouldn’t even kiss me-”
“Yeah, cause I threw up! And how could I be faking it when I literally threw up.” You snap.
“You’ve been like this before though! Like last year’s big tournament you would barely talk to me.”
“That’s not true!” Although it kind of was just not the reason he thought.
“Oh yeah? What about at training camp you wouldn’t talk to me then either, you didn’t even eat with us you just sat on your own.” He threw back.
“Yeah, cause I have anxiety!” The words left your mouth before you knew it. Kuroo looked taken back.
“What?” His brow furrows, “Since when?” He’s not sure what to believe. You’re not surprised since you have worked very hard to hide it from everyone, accidentally sabotaging your own relationship without even knowing it.
“Since forever. I just never told anyone.” You quietly say, ducking your head down.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” You didn’t even need to look up to see the hurt on his face, it was apparent in his voice. You start playing with your finger, tapping them in rhythms.
“I wanted to,” You mumble, “But whenever I do stuff changes and I didn’t want anything to change.” He shifts forward and you think he’s going to leave. Instead, he grabs your hands, stopping the pattern you had going. You look up.
“Did you think I would judge you?” He was staring straight into you, willing the truth to come out.
“Whenever I tell people they either don’t believe me and brush it off or treat me like I’m incapable of handling any amount of stress. I’ve never seen anyone react any differently so I was scared you would fall into one of those reactions and I didn’t know how I could handle that. I didn’t want my anxiety to be the thing to tear us apart. But I guess it still was.” By the end of your speech, your gaze has returned back to the floor, unable to hold eye contact for that long with him staring at you so strongly. You hear him sigh then you are pulled forward and into his arms.
“I want to be your pillar of support. I want to be that third reaction that is one of acceptance, one that doesn’t drive you crazy.” He strokes your hair soothingly, his words making you tear up, “When you are ready I want you to tell me everything. From when you first noticed it, to where it is now, to how you deal with it, everything.” By now you are fully crying, absolutely collapsed into his chest. “I love you so much.” It gets muffled in his shirt but he hears it.
“I know, and I love you.”
It would take some time for Kuroo to get used to this change but slowly but surely he will be different from the rest and he will support you no matter what. Although he also respects your strength and knows you can handle your anxiety on your own, he is always there when you need it. He becomes the third unexpected and unheard-of reaction; acceptance.

「 Open starter 」

Fugazi, Mass Art Gymnasium, Boston, MA USA 4/19/2002 (FLS #1029) & 4/20/2002 (FLS #1030)
Not having played in Boston proper for 11 years (i.e. since their one-off show at the Channel on March 17, 1991) due to the lack of promoters willing to do shows in larger venues for low ticket prices and the city suddenly ruling all ages shows illegal, Fugazi would finally return to play two consecutive nights at the Mass Art Gymnasium (MassArt), “[f]ounded in 1873, [...] one of the nation’s oldest art schools, the only publicly funded free-standing art school in the United States, and [...] the first art college in the United States to grant an artistic degree” (via).
Moreover, and according to the MassArt website, it is “a place with wide reach, where the hardest, most important, and most rewarding work of [their] students, staff, and affiliates, is to keep [their] eyes open [!] and continue expanding [their] vision.” In other words, a place most suitable to host a couple of Fugazi shows and have some 1500 enthusiasts share in the experience each night.
Interestingly, these shows in Boston played out while Washington D.C. was preparing for another round of large-scale protests on April 20th. According to an April 14, 2002 article “D.C. Protest Organizers Take On New Cause” by Manny Fern and ez published in the Washington Post,
“Those opposed to global capitalism and the U.S. policies that support it, others who have decried the war in Afghanistan and activists who objected to widespread arrests of Muslims in the United States have joined pro-Palestinian groups to march for a common cause.”
In their lengthy follow-up article, “Demonstrators Rally to Palestinian Cause”, published on April 21, 2002 in the Washington Post, the authors provide some more details as to how these events unfolded,
“Tens of thousands converged on downtown Washington yesterday to demonstrate for a variety of causes, but it was the numbers and passion of busloads of Arab Americans and their supporters that dominated the streets.
Eager to make their presence felt and their voices heard in the nation's capital as never before, Arab and Muslim families marched and chanted for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel, overwhelming the messages of those with other causes in a peaceful day of downtown rallies and marches.”
Considering the nature and backdrop of these events, it only makes sense that the demonstrations run like a thread through both Fugazi shows in Boston. Leading into the song Argument on the first night, Ian gives a lengthy address touching on the causes of the demonstrations, his concerns and doubts in relation to the media coverage and on the band playing shows in Boston instead of standing with the demonstrators in Washington D.C., concluding that “[t]he fact of the matter is that, wherever you are, in the world, if you disagree with war, then you should be protesting every day, no matter where you are, so right now, this is the beginning of the protest.”
The recording of the first night documents a collection of songs that are performed very well for the most part and blend nicely together, with some cool extras, cf. the vocals catching some nice reverb on Oh, a memorable version of Ex-Spectator, Guy’s “public housing” rap into Dear Justice Letter, a cool double shot of Joe with The Kill / By You combo, or a rare 2002 live appearance of Bad Mouth.
However, there are a couple of reasons that will probably keep me from revisiting this one anytime soon. My main gripe is that the recording is incomplete. The introduction is missing as well as the actual last three songs of the set, i.e. Arpeggiator, Sweet and Low and Repeater. Guy’s vocals are low in the mix on Sieve-Fisted Find and kind of get stuck in the left channel for most of the recording. Also, the recording skips a couple of times during Cashout.
And so my preference lies with the recording of the second night, which fortunately is complete and better sounding overall, even though Brendan’s snare drum comes off a bit harsh the first couple of songs. This one too has a nice flow to it and documents a really good performance (never mind the guitar soloing towards the end of Strangelight is a bit off).
My highlights here include a nice little midsection with 4 early songs which provide Guy with ample opportunity to lay down his guitar and go off, rare 2002 live versions of Song #1 and Last Chance for a Slow Dance (this one’s a beauty), another nice double dose of Joe by way of Recap Modotti / By You played back-to-back, and last but definitely not least, more remarks by Ian about protests “to celebrate the idea that not the entire country is insane, there are some people who are sane” as an introduction to an outstanding rendering of KYEO which has Ian catering some more to the issues of the day:
“Important bulletin, we have from unconfirmed sources, an alleged plot to possibly blow up five streets in an unnamed city, somewhere in this country, we can’t say it’s gonna happen, but we can’t say it’s not gonna happen, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t walk on the street, we actually don’t know what it means, we just want you to be scared...”
The troops are quiet tonight, But it's not alright, Because we know they're planning something. Don't you know things have settled down,
Down, down but silence is a dangerous sound,
”Because when you’re scared, you’re off-balance, and when you’re off-balance, you can’t reason, when you can’t reason it’s very hard to recognize that something is being done in your name that you would not like to have been done, or you would not like people to do, so get on-balance, don’t be scared...”
The troops are quiet tonight, But it's not alright, Because we know they're planning something. Don't you know things have settled down,
Down, down but SILENCE is a dangerous sound,
We must, we must, We must keep our eyes open, See what we see, What once was promised now will be. Still uncertain? Get off that hang, Don't wait for the bang, The tools, They will be swinging, But we will not be beaten down.
Note that videos of both performances circulate on YouTube (see below). These have been synched-up with the recordings presented here, with permission of the band. On an interesting side note, and according to Ian, “ryanne hodson, who is credited with the video editing was responsible for uploading hundreds of the FLS shows on the site. she’s been a real friend and booster to the project.”
Ironically, the footage of the first show is pretty much complete (contrary to the incomplete audio recording) while the footage of the second show is missing about 30 minutes of the performance (contrary to the complete audio recording).

United in Song
okay so this has been in my drafts for I don’t even know how long and I’m tired of it sitting there collecting dust, so please enjoy this fluffy 3H platonic one-shot.
/////
If there was one thing Dorothea missed about the opera, it was the audience. There was a certain kind of thrill that came with standing on the stage, staring out into the darkened crowd while the music swelled beneath her voice and feeling their tension, knowing that they held their collective breaths in anticipation, in wonder of her song…there was nothing else quite like it, in her experience. And while she didn’t really want to go back to that life of endless practices and performances, of cutthroat rivalries and patrons as dangerous as they were wealthy, she felt a little pang standing in the Garreg Mach cathedral, singing her heart out for absolutely no one.
Well, no, that wasn’t quite true. The monastery choir had finally gotten a few more members, and as the nun in charge dismissed them for the day, Annette and Hilda hurried over before she could wander off. “Wow, Dorothea! You were really amazing!!” the little redhead gushed.
“Aw, thanks, Annie,” Dorothea giggled, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. “You were both great, too!”
“You’re so sweet,” Hilda smiled. “But we couldn’t hold a candle to you! Your voice was so beautiful -- and I swear, it filled the whole cathedral.”
Well, that might explain all the sharp looks and decrescendo gestures she’d been getting from the director.
“It’s really a shame nobody else was around to hear,” Annette sighed.
“I know exactly what you mean.” Dorothea scanned the rows of empty pews as they walked toward the doors, feeling again that ache of longing. Even when they did get to stand before an audience, something told her they would just be the choral lead to a devotional hymn for some religious service or another. “Sometimes I really wish we could just…go out and perform, you know? Show off a little, hear the applause…”
“…well, why couldn’t we?”
Dorothea paused at the top of the steps, reeling her mind back from another stage dream to focus on Hilda. “I didn’t think they did that here.”
“Not that I’ve seen. Or heard about,” Annette agreed.
“So why not do something about it?” Hilda asked. “Put on a musical performance! There’s lots of places that would work, like the lawn outside the classrooms, or the walk along the dormitories…”
“Would that really bring in an audience, though?” Annette pointed out. “Back in Fhirdiad you’d see performers doing shows on street corners, but they never really drew crowds or anything.”
“And wouldn’t it be nice to have a real stage, and a real audience?” Dorothea sighed. It was a quiet walk across the bridge to the monastery…and the whole way, she just kept turning Hilda’s suggestion over and over. It really would be nice to have an opportunity to perform…maybe she could ask Professor Manuela about it--
“This is it!!”
Dorothea jumped at Annette’s excited squeak, whirling just in time to see her grab something off the Bulletin Board. “What is?” she asked, taking the parchment and smoothing it out.
“A flier for the Weapons Tourney?” Hilda read over her shoulder. Apparently this month’s challenge was for axe-wielders, and while the pink-haired noble might excel, something told Dorothea that she wouldn’t go anywhere near it without proper incentive from the Professor.
“No! …well, I mean, yes, that’s what it is, but I mean -- this is the answer! We have a music tournament!”
“…a music tournament?” Dorothea repeated.
“Yeah!” Annette giggled. “We could have sign-ups, and people could bring their instruments or sing, and it could have brackets just like they do in the training grounds, only they’d be competing with their music! And the audience response could be how the winner’s picked!”
Dorothea felt a smile dawn across her face. “…Annie, that’s brilliant! We could get a sponsor to help judge ties, and offer a grand prize for the winner…”
“We could make fliers the way they do for the training ground matches, too!” Hilda added.
“I bet if we ask around the monastery, we could get tons of sign-ups -- and I’m sure lots of people would want to see it!” Annette insisted. “Ooh, this is so exciting!!”
“It’s a wonderful idea,” Dorothea agreed. “And I’m sure if we join forces, we can make it into a dazzling show.”
As they put their heads together to plan, for the first time in ages, she felt a thrill of excitement for what lay ahead. Garreg Mach might not have much appreciation for music now -- but if they got their way, Dorothea would make sure that changed.
-----
“A music show? Oh, you mean like they’ve got at the fair? Hey, count me in! Are you gonna have snacks?”
“No, Raph,” Dorothea sighed.
“You sure? Everybody likes good food -- I bet you’d get a ton of people to come if they could eat while they watched.”
She shook her head, fighting back a smile. It was hard to be frustrated with him when he was so enthusiastic, but she did wish he’d think about more than food. “Do they have snacks for the weapon tournaments at the training grounds?”
“Heck yeah they do!” he laughed. “I never miss a tourney, they’ve always got something for the people in the stands”
“…huh.” She hadn’t known that. Maybe they could ask about refreshments: after all, everything else had been going splendidly so far. Professor Manuela had been over the moon when they approached her with the idea, and had swiftly appointed herself as their ‘impartial’ judge (said with a wink that made Dorothea certain she was far more partial than she’d ever admit to being); while the former diva took to planning and preparations, including venue selection and construction, she left the three students in charge of gauging interest and getting early sign-ups so they could start preparing their brackets. Hilda, rather expectedly, had complained of feeling poorly, so Dorothea had agreed to help out in canvasing the Golden Deer…which had led her, rather unexpectedly, to Raphael and his surprisingly helpful suggestion.
“Alright,” she agreed, making a note for later. “I’ll see what we can do about snacks, then.”
“All right!!” he cheered. “You’re the best, Dorothea!”
“Aw, thank you,” she smiled. “But would you want to take part? You know, be up on the stage in front of the audience? We’re looking for any kind of musical talent, whether you sing or play an instrument…”
His face scrunched up for a minute in deep, somewhat painful-looking thought. “Hmmm…I’m mostly good for muscle,” he shrugged. “Don’t get me wrong, I love music! I’m just not much good at makin’ it -- oh, hey, have you asked Bernadetta yet?”
“Bernie?”
“Yeah! Oh, man, she’s got this little brass thingy she plays -- she was playin’ it in the greenhouse one day, an’ I heard it from all the way in the training grounds! It was the best thing I’d ever heard!”
“Interesting,” Dorothea mused, scribbling another little note down.
“You didn’t know?”
“Bernie’s pretty shy about her talents,” Dorothea confided. “Seems she’s got all kinds of hidden ones…”
“Uh…if you go ask her, can you maybe…not tell her I told you?” he asked nervously. “See, uh…she got pretty upset when I found out, and made me promise not to tell anybody, but then you came talking about music an’ stuff and I just got real excited about maybe seein’ her up there an’ hearin’ it again, so…”
“Oh, Raph, you’re a sweetheart, aren’t you?” she giggled. “Don’t worry. I won’t say a word.”
“Thanks, Dorothea,” he beamed. “You really are the best.”
-----
“M-music show? Me? Perform!? How did you find out? Did Raphael tell you!?” Bernadetta demanded through the tiny crack between the doors of her room.
“Raphael? I haven’t talked to him,” Dorothea lied. “Hilda’s asking around with the Golden Deer, since they’re her classmates, just like Annette’s asking the Blue Lions and I’m asking all my fellow Eagles. We’re trying to get a list together of students who want to take part. Do you have any musical talents, Bernie?”
“N-n-no!” she stammered. “Nope, not me, Bernie’s just good for staying out of the way, yes indeed…”
“I think you’re good for a lot more than that,” Dorothea insisted. “I know you’ve got so much talent, and it’s such a shame to hide it all away. Maybe you sing in here, or play an oboe when we’re all away from the dorms…”
“Trumpet,” the archer mumbled. “B-but I could never get up in front of so many people!”
“Oh, but from on stage, under the lights, you can’t even see most of the audience -- and wouldn’t it be great to share all that talent with the whole academy?”
“Maybe for you!” the archer squeaked. “All those people out there in the dark, staring at me, and no place to hide? That s-sounds terrifying!”
…Dorothea actually hadn’t thought about that. She was so used to basking in the attention…but that would be scary for someone as shy as Bernadetta. “That’s okay,” she smiled. “You don’t have to. But…would you maybe come to watch? Ferdie and I have already signed up to take part, and we could always use someone to cheer for us.”
“…m-maybe,” came the muffled reply.
“And if you do change your mind about being on stage, you know we’ll both be cheering you on, right?” she coaxed. “Annette even told me that Felix promised to come watch the performances, and you know how he feels about everything that isn’t training. We’d all really love it if you joined in.”
Silence from the other side of the doors. Had she pushed too hard…?
“I’ll…I-I’ll think about it.”
Beaming, Dorothea made a note on her sign-up sheet. “That’s all we’d ask for. Just let me know, okay?”
And maybe it was her imagination, but she thought she heard the smallest sound of agreement before the doors clicked firmly shut between them.
-----
Even in her fantasies, Dorothea never could have dreamed things would go this well. Not only did they get enough sign-ups to make a full five-round bracket, the whole monastery was buzzing with anticipation days before the event. It reminded her a little of Enbarr the week before a Mittelfrank production, where every group she passed on the street seemed to be talking about the upcoming show -- whether it was about their excitement to see the spectacle or despair over not getting one of the endlessly coveted (and frightfully limited) tickets. Here, thankfully, seating was hardly an issue, since Professor Manuela had managed to secure the Reception Hall for the event: the whole student body could fit there with standing room to spare, even with the stage taking up the front quarter.
Come the morning of the show, posters listing the contestants appeared on every bulletin board, and Dorothea scanned the starting matches before the thought of breakfast even occurred to her. She recognized more than a few names: Ferdinand of course, and herself (naturally), as well as Lorenz (unfortunately), Hilda, Annette, and even Bernie.
It was all so exciting, she could hardly bear it.
Time crawled by while she waited for the tournament to begin. Before noon she’d warmed up, improvised a few little tunes as practice, and rehearsed a few of her favorite songs in preparation. By the time the Reception Hall opened to the competitors, she’d chosen her starting and ending arrangements and decided on the pieces she would use if she faced any real competition. And once the doors opened and the audience began to crowd into the available seats, she felt her heart begin to race in anticipation of what was soon to come.
She didn’t even mind that she had to wait. The first match, to her delight, featured Annette and Bernie: blushing fiercely, the little red-head made her way cheerfully through an obviously original tune, while Dorothea’s fellow Eagle stuck to a familiar Imperial melody, squeezing her eyes shut tight and playing her trumpet at the stage rather than the audience. In spite of that, it was a remarkable performance, and Bernie might have won just by virtue of Raphael’s enthusiastic applause -- but his thunderous cheer startled the poor recluse and sent her bolting from the stage before the match could be officially declared, forfeiting her chance to proceed. But that might have been for the best, she supposed: Bernie clearly wasn’t big on the spotlight.
The rest of the first round and all of the second went smoothly enough. Though she didn’t bother watching every pair, she saw both Ferdinand and Annette proceed on to the quarterfinals, while Hilda lost to Lorenz in her second bout (though the noblewoman hardly seemed bothered by the loss). Dorothea’s own matches barely required any effort on her part to win: she’d spent so long practicing her favorite songs from her favorite operas in the days leading up to this competition, but a few simple melodies were all it took to ensure that she made it through the preliminaries. Even against her third opponent, all it took was the chorus from an Adrestian folksong to seal her victory...though Annette lost her own bout against Ferdinand in the same round. Dorothea congratulated her all the same, and promised to win for Annie’s sake -- perhaps a bold promise from anyone else, but one that the former Mittelfrank diva felt assured she could keep.
And sure enough, in the semifinals she not only faced her fellow Eagle but beat him handily with one of the arias she’d so carefully prepared. He lost quite gracefully, too, applauding her as enthusiastically as the audience itself and conceding even before Profesor Manuela could announce the final judgment. And with the round done, Dorothea made her way back behind the stage, humming to herself as she waited for the intermission to end and the finals to begin…
“Congratulations on sweeping the competition, Dorothea.”
She paused, turning to see the leader of the Golden Deer House grinning at her from a few feet away. Mustering up a pleasant enough smile, she offered a nod in greeting. “Why, thank you, Claude. Are you here to wish Lorenz well before I crush him?”
The nobleman blinked. “Why would I do that? Lorenz got knocked out in the last round.”
Dorothea stared at him for a long, silent moment. “To who?” she demanded, hunting about for a bracket that might give her an answer--
“...me, actually.”
Slowly, carefully, she turned again to face the leader of the Golden Deer. “Guess you weren’t watching the match,” he chuckled, hefting an odd lute-like instrument. “Lorenz was...less than thrilled with the outcome, if it helps.”
Actually, it just made her regret all the more that she hadn’t paid attention: she’d been looking forward to seeing his face when he finally lost. “Well, I suppose congratulations are in order for you, too, then,” she said, turning away from him again. “May the best musician win.”
“Oh, uh...about that.”
She glanced at him over her shoulder, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear as he drummed his fingertips along the neck of his instrument. “I was...well. I was wondering how you’d feel about calling it a draw.”
A thin smile carved its way across her face. “Are you that confident you can beat me, Claude?”
“Hardly,” he scoffed. “I have no doubt that you’d mop the floor with me.” She felt sure he was flattering her -- but she waited all the same, watching his grin soften almost shyly, though it still didn’t quite touch his eyes. “I was just...hoping I could perform with you, instead of having to compete against you. Y’know, everything here at the monastery is about pitting us against each other: the weapon tourneys, the fishing competition, and now this...I feel like we could put on a better show working together than we could separately trying to one-up each other. You can have the prize, too, if you want,” he added. “Pretty sure you’d win it anyway, but...what do you say?”
Beyond the curtain, she heard Professor Manuela take the stage again and announce the final round to the audience. Claude only watched Dorothea, though, seeming content to be patient and wait for her even as their names rang out over the wild cheering of the crowd.
And at last she smiled, lifting a hand to cup her cheek. “How are you at improvising with that lute of yours?”
“If you can sing a few bars, I can probably make something work,” he grinned.
“Why don’t we put that to the test?”
“With pleasure,” he agreed, bowing playfully before offering his arm to her. Returning the gesture with a teasing curtsy of her own, Dorothea accepted -- and they walked out onto the stage together, applause washing over them in waves of wondrous sound. They parted smoothly, Claude taking up his instrument and strumming a few notes to ensure it was properly in tune before looking expectantly to her, waiting for her lead; Dorothea turned her own attention to the darkness, savoring the anticipation of the shadowed audience before her...and finally beginning to sing, the somber melody echoing throughout the crowded reception hall.
“Reach for my hand, I’ll soar away, Into the dawn, oh I wish I could stay…”
A soft chord joined in, the notes as sweet and clear as her own...and yet it did not overpower her voice: instead it seemed to carry the words higher, elevating the music in ways she had not heard since she left the Mittelfrank Opera House. She did not falter, though: instead she continued, allowing a smile to creep into her voice as she sang.
“Here in cherished halls, in peaceful days I fear the edge of dawn, knowing time betrays…”
“Is this really gonna be the last song we do?” Claude asked, his voice carrying out into the dark and startling her back to reality. “Come on, Dorothea, we’ve gotta liven it up a little!”
Even as he spoke, his fingers flew over the strings, keeping the key but tumbling into a bright, rousing accompaniment. He winked at her when she turned to stare at him, repeating the same refrain in invitation...and though she’d only ever heard the piece as a wandering lament before, she could not deny his compelling harmony.
Their music rang through the reception hall, her voice rising into the rafters on the strum of lute strings...and for the first time since she’d come to the Officer’s Academy, Dorothea felt that familiar, wonderful thrill again as the enraptured crowd watched them perform their duet on the stage.
-----
In the fortnight following the tourney, Dorothea had become the most popular girl in Garreg Mach. It seemed like every young man, noble birth or otherwise, wanted a moment of her time, a scrap of her attention...and, of course, a chance to hear her sing again.
While they’d agreed to a draw before ever taking the stage, Claude had gracefully conceded when Professor Manuela declared Dorothea the winner. It had bothered her when it happened -- all the more for how she couldn’t correct the matter over the riotous applause -- and try as she might over the intervening days, she’d still been unable to set the record straight with anyone she spoke with (aside from Hilda, who didn’t seem the least bit surprised to hear it). But strangest of all was the fact, despite now having an audience eager to hear her perform again...she couldn’t find that thrill anymore. It had been there while she was on stage with Claude, but in every performance since -- no matter how many people she had hanging on her every note -- she just felt the same hollow sort of yearning she had in the cathedral before all of this began.
Dorothea sighed as she made her way out of the dining hall, taking the stairs down to the fishing pond and wandering toward the dormitories. All the attention did get tiring after a while; luckily the grounds seemed deserted this afternoon, and she stretched her arms high as she tipped her head back, breathing in the crisp autumn air while the sun warmed her face and the soft sound of music drifted by…
She stopped, scanning the lawn and the path along the row of dorms. No one was there that she could see, but she could hear the strum of lute strings; she hurried on, listening to the music grow louder and louder until she felt certain she was close -- but the sound was too clear to be coming from behind the closed doors, and there was still no one around that she could see. “Claude?” she called, raising her voice as much as she dared.
The music stopped. “Dorothea?” the nobleman’s voice replied -- not from beside or behind her, but from above.
Tilting her head back and shading her eyes, she stared at the young man peering at her over the eaves of the dormitory roof. “What are you doing up there?” she asked.
“Playing,” he said.
“How did you even get up there? And why are you playing on the roof, for that matter?”
“It’s complicated,” he shrugged. “...well, alright, it’s not that complicated, but...should I come down so we can talk?”
Dorothea opened her mouth to agree...and paused. “...I could always come up,” she offered.
A grin twitched across his face. “I’ll meet you at my room, then,” he laughed, waving before disappearing from view. Hurrying back down to the greenhouses, she turned into the stairwell leading to the second floor of dorms where most of the noble students stayed; at the top of the steps, she saw Claude poke his head out into the hall, beaming at the sight of her. Smiling despite herself, Dorothea hurried over and ducked past him without even thinking...and as he closed the doors, she stifled a giggle at the sight of his room.
She had seen cluttered her share of dorms before -- Linhardt’s came immediately to mind -- but she’d never seen anything quite like this, with books taking up half the bed, papers spilling off the desk and onto the floor, and shelves cluttered with a mix of plants, vials, and strange brass instruments she couldn’t identify. Claude seemed briefly puzzled by her reaction...though, after another moment, he rather sheepishly began gathering up the parchment piled on his chair to give her a place to sit. “So what can I do for you?”
“Well, first of all I’d like to know how you got onto the roof,” she replied. “And off it so fast, for that matter.”
He quirked one eyebrow in apparent surprise. “What, that? It’s easy.” Dropping the papers in a haphazard pile on the desk, he stepped up onto the wide ledge beneath the open window, leaning out into empty space and stretching one arm up...
Claude jumped.
Dorothea lunged for him, knowing already it was too late -- but he did not fall. She stumbled into the sill, gaping as he effortlessly pulled himself up out of sight; crawling up onto the ledge, she cautiously poked her head out the window...and saw him lean out over the eave, grinning down at her from his perch. “That doesn’t look easy to me,” Dorothea pointed out.
“It just takes some practice,” he laughed. “Want to come up? The view’s great,” he added, reaching a hand down to her.
The sensible, logical, rational part of her brain insisted that she’d rather not break her neck trying to get a nice view of the monastery...even as she extended her own arm, gripping his wrist and feeling him hold fast. She heard the instructions he gave her -- she was more than certain of that, since she never would have done this on her own -- but whatever he’d said escaped her the moment she stepped off the ledge into empty air, clutching tight to Claude’s wrist even as his pleasant laughter rang in her ears. In the end he did most of the work pulling her up beside him...but once she caught her breath and her heart stopped feeling like a bird trying to escape its cage, she had to admit that he was right: the campus was lovely from so high up.
“You doing okay?” he asked, patting her shoulder gently.
“Better, I think,” she agreed, scooting further back from the edge. “So, that explains how you got up here -- now why are we here?”
“Well, in my case it’s because it’s a nice day, I don’t have anything going on, and I’m tired of dealing with Lorenz, so I figured I’d come up here and play a bit. He can yell all he wants from down there, but I’m not stopping unless he gets on this roof to make me.” As he spoke, he removed the lute strapped to his back, strumming a few notes and idly beginning to tune it again. “But what brings you up here?”
“Well...actually, I was looking for you,” she admitted, tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear. “I haven’t seen much of you since the music tourney.”
“You’ve been busy,” he winked.
Dorothea rolled her eyes, leaning back against the slightly pitched roof. “Don’t remind me, I needed to get away from it for a while.”
“Really? I thought you’d be happy about all the attention.”
“I was at first,” she sighed, “and it’s been wonderful to have more chances to sing, but…”
She trailed off, watching a few wispy clouds wandering across the pale blue sky. After a moment, the quiet strum of lute strings fell silent; glancing over at the nobleman, she found him watching her with interest, his head canting slightly to one side as he gestured for her to continue. “It...doesn’t feel like I thought it would. Back in the opera, it was always so grand and emotional, singing to an audience -- I loved that feeling, and it’s one of the things I’ve missed most since I left. I’d hoped the competition would bring it back, and singing with you I found it again, but...I haven’t felt it since. I’ve been feeling guilty about the way it ended up, and…”
“Hey, I said from the start that you’d mop the floor with me in a competition,” he laughed. “I don’t mind. I’m glad I got the chance to perform with you -- that was my prize.”
“Be serious,” she huffed. “I’m trying to apologize!”
“And I’m saying you don’t have to -- it’s not like you had a say in Professor Manuela deciding on a winner.”
“But if I don’t get it sorted out, how am I supposed to enjoy singing like I used to?”
“Are you sure guilt is what’s keeping you from it?”
Her eyes narrowed slightly as she stared at him. “What do you mean?”
“You said that you haven’t felt that thrill since you left the opera. You didn’t get it again until the finals, right?” She nodded in agreement. “And then after the finals it was gone again?” Again, she nodded in agreement. “So what was different about the finals, compared to everything before and after?”
“The drama of the grand finale?” she offered.
“Well, that, too,” he chuckled, “but you weren’t performing alone, either: your melody had a harmony.”
Dorothea scoffed at the notion. “That seems…”
She trailed off as Claude leaned forward, propping his chin on his hands. She hadn’t thought of it like that before, but...her fondest memories from the opera were of performances with accompaniment: grand arias carried by a full orchestra, soft odes lilting over quavering strings. “...possible,” she conceded.
“So maybe what you were really looking for was a chance to sing with somebody, instead of going it alone or singing over them.”
“I’m flattered you think I’m so selfless,” she giggled. “Really, I just wanted an audience.” But even so, that final performance with him, building on one another’s leads and creating something far grander and more beautiful than Dorothea could have done alone...it had brought with it a familiar, delightful frisson.
“Well, I know I had more fun playing with you than I did taking Lorenz down a peg -- and I really enjoyed that,” Claude laughed, strumming his lute again, “and I, for one, would be honored to reprise the performance -- though, fair warning, I can’t promise a crowd this time around.”
“You know, I am free this afternoon,” she grinned. He beamed back at her, picking a cheerful tune on his lute strings -- an Adrestian folksong she recognized instantly; as she started in on the first verse and their duet drifted out over the quiet campus, she felt the thrill lift her heart again...and maybe it was just her imagination, but she swore Claude’s smile finally reached his eyes.

S1000D: Defined, Explained, and Explored
What is S1000D?
S1000D is the European standard of technical publications or technical documentation being followed in Aerospace since 1980, which uses CSDB, a Common source database which is used for preparing, managing, and publishing technical information for a warship, or Aerospace, or even Civil airlines too.
The first release of the S1000D Specification was in 1989 and in August 2019 the latest 5 Issue was release
An airplane or ship is built with thousands of components, sub-components and navigation equipment, and many more. Hence, these components are supplied by many OEMs (Original equipment manufacturers). OEMs make the documents to their own standards. Each document and format is entirely different because all OEMs don’t maintain similar standards. At that point, the Technical Publications Specification Maintenance Group (TPSMG) was formed. They proposed a DM-based (Data Module) Based structure. TO manage these Data modules CSDB was maintained. (Database). Data Module is the standalone section of the document. For example, let’s assume that one data module is prepared on Operation of GPS and stored in CSDB, then whenever GPS operations are to be reproduced for different aircraft or different systems, simply that Data module can be copied and plugged.
In short, re-usability and the format used is XML, and tags are defined by the S1000D steering committee.
S1000D Basic Principle
Content or data produced following the standard is in Data Module
This data module is the smallest and self-contained content or data unit within a technical publication
A data module must have sense and meaning when viewed without any supporting data other than images and diagrams
These data modules will be stored and managed in CSDB, Common Source Database.
Using this CSDB we can publish output in a page-oriented or Interactive Electronic Technical Manual.
These Individual data modules are re-usable components and can be used repeatedly in an output.
Benefits of S1000D
Re-usability of data hence reduces production cost
Standardization of data and naming conventions
Open source and non-proprietary
Good for legacy data conversion
Proper documentation and version control management
Zero printing cost and zero occupancies of space as no Hard copies are to be maintained. Achieved by reusing instead of recreating information each time it is required
Easily to maintain and distribute: Facilitates transfer of information and electronic output between systems very easily and conveniently
Multiple Vendor support
Fastest reference to operator or maintainer than traditional paper-based documents
Many different output forms can be generated from a single data source i.e. from CSDB we can generate IETM and also PDF format which can be used for printing if need be
Customized Output creation: Allows sub-sets of information to be generated to meet specific user needs and user levels.

Dream State - 18 : BESTEST FRIEND
San and the other members of ‘Just Gotta TOUCH’, that he now knew to be Hyunjin and Minho, and of course Seonghwa, stayed to have coffee together.
Sat at one of the campus cafes, they shared events from their day. Having some quality time together, finally off of their phones.
After their brief coffee date and before their departure from each other, the four friends tried to arrange their plans for later that evening.
“I have one more lecture at 5 to 6 soooo.. if you want I can just meet you at the party!” Hyunjin said as he led the group to the old gates that San entered through earlier. He was informed that those gates weren’t used as the main entrance anymore, more-so as a shortcut for students to get into the city centre.
“Where did you guys get accommodation? I can drive us if we pick a time?” Minho suggested, once they made it to the gates but not leaving campus just yet.
“Do I even trust you as a designated driver?”
“San ! we won’t be drinking much anyway! and we’re staying at my mom’s friend’s place”
San felt guilty at Seonghwa’s words. He wasn’t able to find his own accommodation, knowing that he did procrastinate on it for too long that even Mingi said so.
“I should really find another place tho, I feel bad” he spoke up again. Hyunjin placed a hand on his shoulder, “I saw some places on the bulletin board if you’re looking, living the college life with roommates would be fun”
Minho gave Hyunjin a questioning yet disgusted look, Hyunjin replying with a mouthed ‘what?’. The Busan boys turned to each other confused, not wanting to interrupt.
“You say as the one that still lives with his parents”
“I didn’t wanna stray too far from home !”
“Scaredy Cat!”
“Atleast I’m not one of your cats, God knows what you feed them..”
“Hey! I treat my cats well! What about Kami !? he like hates you !”
Their little argument went on for a bit longer until Seonghwa broke it up, saying they should get going so Hyunjin could prepare for his class. It would still be a couple more hours away, Hyunjin whining at how they were leaving him already.
They talked out their meeting for the party before actually leaving him, Minho then offered the two a lift which they accepted.
~~
Yeosang was already done for the day at half past three.
As they walked, Wooyoung played ‘Walk You Home’ from his phone like he promised. They shared more about themselves, speaking about their music taste apart from NCT.
The walk was peaceful but it quickly came to an end.
Just as the lyrics of ‘Walk You Home’, Wooyoung wanted to sit at the benches they passed and chat with Yeosang for a little longer. He also knew that they’d see each other later at the party to continue their conversation, so he left Yeosang at his accommodation.
When he knew his friend was safely back, Wooyoung carried on the rest of the way alone.
He admired the slowly changing trees along his path back. The wind picking up some of the already fallen leaves, fluttering in the opposite direction to Wooyoung. He told himself to take a mental note on the weather, it was getting colder but the sun still provided him some heat.
This could only be the perfect weather for long coats and sweaters or if you’re Wooyoung, bucket hats and oversized hoodies. As if he didn’t wear those any time of year anyway.
Reaching their dorms, Hongjoong sat at their shared living room waiting for him. “So have you thought out your outfit for tonight or were you too busy flirting with Yeosang?” Joong greeted once he saw Wooyoung enter the room.
“I may have had some ideas while waiting for Yeosang, why? do you need help picking?”
“No I just don’t want you wearing pajamas so you can jump into bed, the moment we come back”
Wooyoung rolled his eyes, entering his room with Hongjoong following behind.
“I was thinking a blazer and jeans but now-”
“You trying to look smart for Yeosang?” Joong interrupted, looking through Wooyoung’s closet, clearly judging his clothes. Wooyoung let out an exaggerated sigh before crashing down on his bed, the elder was quick to start piling outfit choices on top of him.
“Tell me what’s really up with you and Yeosang” Joong asked, stopping his actions of stacking clothes on Wooyoung. He looked down at the younger waiting for a reply but got nothing only another frustrated sigh. “Well are you gonna tell me, or am I going to have to do my own digging?” Joong was now seated at the edge of the bed next to Woo, still staring down at him.
Wooyoung sat up to face him, “Since when were you so interested?”
“Since you started acting weird? Don’t make me become the annoying pushy friend, on top of the mom friend!”
“Isn’t that part of being the mom friend” Wooyoung gave a smug face causing Hongjoong to push him playfully, “you know what I mean”. Laying back on the bed, not bothered getting up from Joong’s push, Wooyoung commented “Well I do know you haven’t been acting yourself either”
“Yeah cause you’re being weird! and I don’t know how to cope!”
“Like I said I-”
“Don’t tell me you’re fine when i know you’re not !” Hongjoong retaliated, picking up the clothes off of Wooyoung to place them towards the end of the bed.
He then pulled the younger to sit up so they could start having a proper conversation.
Although Joong wanted to talk about Wooyoung’s feelings, whether it was stress, anxiety or most likely another crush.. Wooyoung knew how to change the subject, asking about their roommate situation.
They had rented an apartment with an extra room and although they were both financially stable to pay for rent with just the two of them, Joong wanted to have someone else around.
It was more so for Wooyoung to have company. Joong would be working late and staying back on campus for assignments. He knew Wooyoung would offer to stay in the library to come home with Joong, like they had arranged last year but Hongjoong wouldn’t be around for much longer because of graduation. He wanted Wooyoung to meet a new friend so he would have someone during his final year while Joong would most likely be starting work.
Hongjoong forgot the purpose of their conversation, telling Wooyoung how he put a notice on the campus bulletin board. He also mentioned someone from his class already asking about it and how he came to the idea of holding interviews for their potential new roommate.
Wooyoung nodded along pretending to be interested. He just needed to waste enough time before getting ready for the party.
“Anyway I was asking-”
“I think we should ask Jongho about his friend? maybe they're still looking for accommodation? but also we should probably be getting ready? well it seems like you’re already ready.. maybe I’ll just ask the GC what I should wear?” Wooyoung prompted, rambling but he hoped Joong would read past it.
“Fine, we’ll talk about this a different time...” giving up the talk, Hongjoong left the room. Wooyoung quick to jump into twitter once he was gone.
