I know their mainstream depictions will never change no matter what we say but I'm starting to think that so few saw the Harkers' arc as a Romance (and thus have been breaking them up for over a century! and still do!) for so long partly because throughout the story they're engaged and married, which is the endgame of most adult love stories, not the start. Along with this mentality that engagement/marriage is an automatic cessation of romantic love and passion... Regardless of the fact that their relationship goes through trials, reforging, mistakes, growth, conflicts, consistent development, and ardent devotion, all of which are interweaved beats of a love story.

Still on that part of chapter 6, it's so fucked up to me how basically every killer and victim characters have a moment to show they had a good relationship with one another;

Higa and Maki's had that weird romance-esc thing going on, that scene where Kanata Kinji and Kakeru are hiding together from the Monokumas, the Kisa sibs interactions and even Satsuki and Haru were together for a bit.

Meanwhile, Ayame and Kizuna don't interact with one another aside from Ayame commenting on how many boddies there are on that bridge they're crossing

The other half of this which I've never seen anyone talk about is that alternate food also needs to be provided to the people around the person with the allergy.

Someone sitting next to you who needs breakfast/lunch/snack/whatever to survive a lecture or a plane flight might not have any other option except a bag of trail mix or a food bar (which always have nuts. I hate nuts, and that's still practically the only thing available as a quick to-go meal). Kids in the classroom with supposedly harmless PB&J, etc., etc. If it's feasible for that person to stand up and eat their snack bar in a corner, that's one thing. But you don't really have that option when you're shackled to your seat in a plane flight and you need to eat because otherwise the airlines will make you starve. Kids don't have the option to create alternate foods out of thin air. If there is someone who needs accommodation for a food allergy, then the alternate safe food must also be provided to the people around them who would otherwise go hungry. Teachers and schools can go get appropriate safe foods for everyone in the classroom. I'm not surprised if people get mad (they have a right to!) when told to go hungry with no replacement option. This is a bigger issue than just the needs of one person.

And this isn't a matter where I'm saying to prioritize hunger/comfort over life and health. I'm pointing out that to work properly, these kinds of accommodations must be targeted at not just the one allergic person in question, but also the people around them. They also have needs that must be met.

I have never seen another allergy that has been so viscerally hated and mocked by people working in education like nut allergies. I’ve seen fellow teachers cringe that their classroom was the “nut free” classroom that year. Support staff that are trained and willfully don’t follow cross contamination protocol in the lunchroom because it’s too “tedious” or “time-consuming”. Full preschools + childcare centers that refuse to accommodate nut allergies. Schools where the only free lunch is a PB&J. Before/after school programs and summer programs whose food curriculum has nuts and doesn’t provide an alternative activity.

Allergy discrimination is so so insidious and prevalent. It’s happening behind their back and it is everything from the exposure joke to possibly causing someone to go into anaphylaxis from willful ignorance.

Also other parents in the classroom are guilty too. The “not my child not my problem” brain rot means that those lunchboxes are like bombs for airborne exposure allergies
