Journey Begins Theorycraft
I’m back! Why? Flame Emperor was the last GHB unit I theorycrafted for, and this month, she got her refine. Iago is next, so let’s get to it.
Journey Begins is a weirdly named banner that’s themed around Fire Emblem Fates Revelation, the beginning of the game. Lilith, Rinkah, and Iago are in the beginning of the game, but Midori and Forrest? Naw. Would they be in the FEH now if they weren’t this banner. IDK. Ask Mitama or Percy.
Lilith: Astral Daughter
Lvl. 40 5 ☆ 39/36/41/27/30 Max Invest: 49/46/51/36/40
Astral Breath: Grants Spd+3. Unit can move to a space adjacent to support partner. If unit is within 3 spaces of support partner, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+5 to unit during combat. If foe's Range = 2, calculates damage using the lower of foe's Def or Res.
Reposition – Atk/Spd Bond 3 – Def/Res Link 3 – Joint Drive Atk
Lilith is the dragon fish girl that runs the My Castle feature in Fates, even in the after life. With Astral projection powers and a micro dimension at her disposal, you would think she would be the Mythic classification with Askr or Sothis. Nope. But Veyle can be a mythic, why not? …. Actually, if she did get a Mythic that’s her ghost form like Sigurd and Deirdre, that be fine. They could make her a lighting / healing tower; she would deal damage to foes and restore health to allies out of combat, either at the start of turn, when attacking, or when an ally attacks. But this isn’t for a Lilith alt, this is for her refine.
Astral Breath: Grants Spd+3. Unit can move to a space within 2 spaces of support partner. At start of turn, if unit is within 3 tile radius of support partner, grants Atk/Spd+6 and the following status to unit and allies within 2 spaces for 1 turn: "Grants Special cooldown charge +1 per attack during combat (only highest value applied; does not stack)." If unit is within 3 spaces of an ally, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+5 to unit during combat. If foe's Range = 2, calculates damage using the lower of foe's Def or Res.
So, for the refine to Lilith’s Astral Breath, we look to Fallen Lilith. She got a greater ranged warp range and grants the ally “Special Charge +1” rather than [NFU]. This should help with Galeforce teams, not that Lilith can get Galeforce. Combined this with Guidance 4 (or Soaring Guidance) for more wrapping maneuvers.
If unit's HP >25%, grant Atk/Spd/Def/Res+X to unit, deals damage = 15% of unit’s Spd, neutralize effects that guarantee foe's follow-up attacks and prevent unit’s follow-up attacks. (X = 4 + highest bonus on each stat between unit and allies within 2 spaces of unit; calculates each stat bonus independently).
And this next part is per combat, something to make her surprise attack hit with a little more “omf”. She got Bonus Doubler 4, NFU, and 15% Spd damage boost. The DR tanks will still have her beat, but any conventional Res tanks that prevent follow-up, use guarantee follow-up, or Guard (cuz we got Breath), won’t be countered. Plus, she still has adaptive damage to ranged foes, so she can clean those guys up.
Midori: Reliable Chemist
Lvl. 40 5 ☆ 41/41/30/34/21 Max Invest: 51/51/39/44/31
Spendthrift Bow+: Effective against flying foes. Grants Atk+7 to unit and inflicts Atk-7 on foe during combat. After combat, if unit attacked, inflicts Special cooldown count+2 on unit. (Cannot exceed the unit's maximum Special cooldown.)
Rally Atk/Def+ - Close Foil – Chill Atk 3
Hey, remember Spendthrift Bow? Yeah, it’s really good for archers who’s Atk, Def, and Res were too low, and needed to invest in stat raising skills or wanted to use Close Foil. The downside was that their Special cooldown was almost reset after combat. Meaning you needed a Moonbow with guaranteed follow-up and special charge, or you can not use the Special at all. Look, 2020 was different. We now have a couple of bows that grant Atk/Def+5 and Peppy Bow that inflicts Atk/Def-5 while preventing follow-ups, while not effecting your Special at all. Also, Arcane bows exist.
Hey, remember Close Foil? It’s also a good skill for Def focused archers and dagger units that only fight physical foes. I talked about them before in my defensive tier 4 skill theorycraft, but this was the best one just because those units needed the stats and dragons were going to one-shot you anyway.
Hey, remember who introduced both those skills? Midori! There was nothing else interesting about her, aside from higher-than-average Def on an archer at the time. But hey, she’s an apothecary and her Spendthrift bow was named after the Spendthrift skill from Fates, which she could promote and obtain. How can we integrate that?
Apothecary Bow: Effective against flying foes. At the start of turn, if unit is within 2 spaces of unit, restore 7 HP to unit and allies within 2 spaces, and also, if unit's HP > 25%, grant [Golden Bar] to unit and allies within 2 spaces for 1 turn. At the start of combat, if unit's HP > 25%, grant Atk +7 to unit and inflict Atk-7 on foe during combat. [Golden Bar] Unit deals damage +10 and takes damage -10, but after combat, this bonus is removed.
THAT’S RIGHT! WE ARE MAKING BANK! GOLDEN BAR META COMENCE! THIS IS REAL SPENDTHRIFT! It’s just not a luck chance of getting a golden bar item that then gets consumed at the start of combat to give +10 damage and -10 damage taken, it’s a guaranteed chance to get a bonus effect that gives you a one-time use of +10 damage and -10 damage taken. Not only that, she shares this ability with everybody, share the wealth!
At the start of combat, if unit's HP > 50% or if [Bonus] is active on unit, grant Def/Res+5 to unit and inflict Def/Res-5 on foe during combat, grant unit guaranteed follow-up attack, prevent foe’s follow-up attack, and inflict Special cooldown charge-1 on foe per attack.
AND WE KEEP GOING! If she has her bonus or is above 50% HP, she gets more in combat stats, omni breaker, and Guard. Is this overkill? Maybe. Don’t care.
Rinkah: Scion of Flame
Lvl. 40 5 ☆ 40/34/39/41/18 Max Invest: 50/43/49/51/28
Rinkah's Club: Accelerates Special trigger (cooldown count-1). If foe initiates combat or if unit's HP < 100% at start of combat, grants Atk/Def+5 and Special cooldown charge +1 per foe's attack during combat. (Only highest value applied. Does not stack. Special cooldown charge granted even if foe's attack deals 0 damage.)
Bonfire – Distant Foil – Wrath 3 – Even Def Wave 3
*Insert picture of Spongebob licking Rinkah’s abs*
As in Fate’s, Rinkah is an underpowered axe unit with mix matched stats for an axe unit. She’s designed for the beginning, and falls off after getting her in Birthright and is immediately bad when obtained in Revelations. Her utility came from her personal, which gave more damage with 1 point of damage, wielding Clubs, which have higher Hit/Crit than axes, using her good Skill/Spd, and getting Spells + Death Blow when promoted. She like a sword master in a way. What she has in FEH is high Spd/Def and Low Atk/Res, a Special spamming Club, and Distant Foil to win match-ups with Physical attacking units. Her biggest weakness in Feh is magic foes, obviously. My goal for this refine is make her the best she can be again Physical attacking foe’s on mixed phase, while leaving her magic weakness, not adding to it.
Rinkah's Club: Accelerates Special trigger (cooldown count-1). At start of combat, if foe initiates combat, if unit's HP ≤ 99%, or if foe's HP = 100%, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+5, reduces damage from foe's attacks by 20% of unit's Def (excluding area-of-effect Specials), Special cooldown charge +1 per attack during combat.
So, let’s start with this. Thanks to Brash Assault 4 and Desperation 4, we have easy way to give her in combat boosts and Special charge she needs, before she takes damage, during player phase. I then just gave her the True Damage Reduction by 20% Def. You can use that high she has to shrug of physical attacks or lessen the power of magic attacks. But where is the True Damage?
If foe initiates combat or foe's HP ≥ 75%, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+5 to unit during combat, and also, if unit's max Special cooldown count value ≥ 2 and unit's attack can trigger unit's Special, when unit's Special triggers (excluding area-of-effect Specials), neutralizes "reduces damage by X%" effects from non-Special skills and calculates that attack's damage using the lower of foe's Def or Res.
And this is where all the power comes form. With Bonfire or Ignis, like Brave Robin, Coincidentally, Rinkah damage is hindered by the Def and DR of physical attacking units, which Close Foil only works on, and those foe’s tend to have lower Res. Rinkah promotion gets her Magic (if you go Oni Chieftain) so this is just her channeling that. Also, if you just get distant counter, cool, mages already have low def, and unless you are fighting certain mages and dragons, you aren’t dealing to DR. I should note, I can see them giving her an effect like her Flame Tribe alt, “inflicts penalty on foe's Atk/Def during combat = 20% of unit's Def at start of combat” instead of TDR.
Iago: Nohr's Tactician
Lvl. 40 5 ☆ 42/38/27/23/32 Max Invest: 52/48/36/32/43
Iago's Tome: Grants Res+3. At start of odd-numbered turns, if any foe's HP ≤ unit's HP-3 and that foe is not adjacent to another foe, inflicts Atk/Spd-4 and 【Guard】 on that foe. At start of even-numbered turns, if any foe's HP ≤ unit's HP-3 and that foe is adjacent to another foe, inflicts Def/Res-4 and 【Panic】 on that foe.
Blazing Wind – HP/Atk 2 – Atk Opening 3
And here we have Iago, the … wait. We forget Forrest. …
And here we have Iago, the most gremlin-y of the dark advisors of the ancient dark dragon architype. His whole gimmick was flip flopping between nerfing the offensive power of foe’s with less HP then him on odd-numbered turns, and naffing the defensive power of foe’s with less HP then him on even-numbered turns. There was no escape, but the burden was set on you to attack offensively on even turn and act defensively on odd turns. Now a days, we got mages that debuff the whole team with better/more effects without an HP check or them needing to be near an ally, and they still put up a fight.
Iago's Tome: Grants Res+3. At start of odd-numbered turns, if any foe's HP ≤ unit's HP-1 and that foe is adjacent to another foe, inflicts Atk/Spd-6 and 【Guard】 on that foe. At start of even-numbered turns, if any foe's HP ≤ unit's HP-1 and that foe is adjacent to another foe, inflicts Def/Res-6 and 【Panic】 on that foe. At start of combat, if unit's HP ≥ 25%, grant Atk/Spd/Def/Res+4 to unit during combat.
So, the changes are as followed; decrease the required HP to be 1 higher rather than 3, make both effects work when that foe is adjacent to another foe (I get you are trying counter measures but no), increase the penalties inflicted to 6, and the basic +4 to all stats when healthy.
At start of combat, if 【Penalty】 is active on foe, foe's HP ≤ 99%, or unit's HP ≥ 50%, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+4 to unit, inflicts Atk/Spd/Def/Res-X on foe (X = highest penalty on each stat between target and foes within 2 spaces of target; calculates each stat penalty independently), unit makes a guaranteed follow-up attack during combat, and also, if this unit's HP ≥ foe's HP+5 at the start of combat and foe’s attack can trigger foe’s Special, inflicts Special cooldown count+1 on foe before foe’s first attack during combat (cannot exceed foe's maximum Special cooldown).
Now for the nutty stuff that makes him a tough nut to crack. When the foe has any penalty, is hurt slightly, or Iago is healthier, it’s +4 to all stats, the Sabbotage effect in combat, a guaranteed follow-up, and an HP check Snare, like with B!Tiki or Veyle’s C skill. The other examples uses Res, which Iago does have enough to benefit against some god swords, but if you want the other part of his tome to work, you are investing in HP. This maybe to strong of an effect for a Grail unit, but it’s harder to get that HP check then a RES check. You may need Savage Blow or other out of combat damaging skills to get those checks. It’s better than needing a support partner at least.
And with that, another banner is done. See you guys … whenever.

@linklewinklewoman
“My future timeline child already gave you a hug.” She looks down to see Midori still latched onto Linkle’s leg. “But I’ll give you a kiss from each of us.”
“Eh, giving a cute girl kisses? Count me in.” And a smooch on the top of her head from Echidna.
“I’m getting paid for this, right? My lips do not come cheap.” Farina still kisses Linkle anyway then leaves a bill for 50,000 gold in the hero’s pocket! FARINA!
“You and me should grab a drink some time.” Leonie pecks Linkle on the cheek.
“You Beorc have some strange customs, but very well, I don’t want to be the odd one out.” Lethe also pecks Linkle.
“Ah--um--well now--uuuuuh.” Nephenee smooches then immediately stiffens up and needs to be carried off by Lethe and Leonie.
“I-I think my Mother would be a better kisser anyway!” Noire squeaks, kisses Linkle’s cheek and then runs way!
Midori is still hugging the champion’s leg.

Entry 64: Killing a Man for a Pair of Boots
Class Profiles - Blacksmith
A promotion for Oni Savages and this game’s equivalent of the Hero class. Which is weird, because the Hero class is also in this game. It would have made more sense for Fighters to promote into Warriors, like in most Fire Emblem games, and have Oni Savages promote into Berserkers, instead of having two versions of the Heroes. They wield axes and swords. This is a possible class for Rinkah and Kenshi. Their skill Salvage Blow gives a Luck percent based change to give a random iron weapon after battle, which isn’t too useful in a game with unbreakable weapons in a route with plentiful money. Lancebreaker is more useful, boosting Hit and Avoid by fifty when fighting lance wielding enemies. Their design is pretty good, adding a blue coat, a pair of hammers dangling from their belt, bulky gauntlets, and for generic Blacksmiths a welding mask that still resembles an oni mask.
Class Profiles - Bow Knight
A mounted class wielding bows and swords. Possible promotion for Laslow, Selena, Soleil, Niles, Nina, and Anna. Rally Skill is a rally skill that rallies skill, while Shurikenbreaker breaks shurikens. I’m not sure why Bow Knights were made into the anti Ninja class, but it’s a niche I guess. Their design is kinda dumb, with an overarmored left arm, dumb helmet, heels, and these wierd things hanging from their belt. Still, they’re the only mounted class I’ve seen so far that doesn’t have the women wear thongs, which is an improvement. They still have a boob window, but I’ll take what I can get.
Class Profiles - Dark Knight
A mounted mage class and promotion for Dark Mages. Wields tomes. Class of Leo, possible class for Odin, Nyx, and Ophelia. A bit worse at damage dealing than Sorcerers, but bulkier and with much better movement. Seal Magic lowers the magic stat of your opponent after combat, while Lifetaker restores half of the user’s HP when they kill an enemy. The design for male Dark Knights is amazing; the collars are a bit much, but the black and gold platemail is cool and the helmets that mix roman centurion helmets with skull masks are simply amazing. Female Dark Knights wear thongs while riding horses.
Conquest Chapter 16: Invasion
Moron and Azura return with Gunter, who Hans sarcastically welcomes back. Garon orders Moron to infiltrate Hoshido over the sea, something Moron accepts without protest. Iago asks about where Moron went the night before. Moron claims to have gone on a midnight stroll with Azura to clear their head. Moron cleverly admits to running into and killing mysterious soldiers, explaining the bloodstains on their armor. Moron says they killed all the enemy soldiers to crush the seeds of rebellion.
While waiting for the boat, Xander shows up and attacks Moron to test their reflexes. Xander joins the team. Moron says Xander is as strong as a thousand soldiers, which is true. Xander will be carrying us through the rest of this game. Elise introduces Azura, who Xander actually remembers. He explains that Garon kept her separate from the others because she was the daughter of Garon’s second wife, Arete, and hated by people sad over the death of Xander’s mom.
While sailing to Hoshido on the weird boat from Birthright Chapter 11, pirates led by Shura sneak aboard the ship to rob it.
This is a defeat the boss chapter, which is weird because there isn’t any boss in sight. The boss is actually disguised as one of four ally soldiers spread around the map who you need to talk to if you want to fight them. You have to do this quickly, because every turn you don’t the pirates steal gold from the player. After defeating Shura, the gang learns that he was the one who kidnapped Azura as a child. Shura begs Moron for mercy, but the Nohrian royals tell Moron to execute him for being a potential spy.
The player is actually given a choice. If they spare Shura, he joins our army and is a loyal ally. This is what Corrin, a trusting kind person who sees the good in people, would chose to do. But we aren’t playing as Corrin, we’re playing as Moron, the cowardly evil dipshit who I hate. I chose to execute Shura, not because you’re given a pair of boots for doing so, but because I want Moron to make that choice. I want them to actually have some fucking agency and do something heinous that can’t be blamed on someone else. I make my choice and Moron murders a man for a pair of boots and their abusive father’s approval.
This decision literally does not affect the plot of the game in any way.
Support: Corrin/Xander
C: Corrin finds Xander training and the two reminisce about how Corrin used to watch Xander train when they were younger.
B: Corrin discusses how Xander's training helped them sleep and how Xander always looks so angry when he trains late at night.
A: Xander reveals that he trains to get out his anger towards Garon. Corrin thanks Xander for saving them from loneliness and promises to always be there for him.
S: Corrin says Xander is a great older brother who she always looked up to. Xander says he wants to bang.
Review: Ignoring the S-Rank, this is pretty good. Corrin and Xander have a loving relationship and Xander being angry about Garon makes him a better character.
Support: Felicia/Odin
C: Felicia is put in charge of supervising Odin because he's weird.
B: Odin is sad about needing a babysitter and points out that the rest of the army is also weird. Also Felicia pours tea on him.
A: Felicia tells Odin that, while every else in the army is weird, Odin has the most flair. Similarly, Felicia isn't the only clumsy person, just the most clumsy.
S: Felicia stops supervising Odin. This dissapoints him, because he's fallen in love with her.
Review: A bit shallow, but enjoyable.
Support: Peri/Selena
C: Peri brings up the fact that, while Selena is good at everything, Peri is better at murder. Selena calls her out on this and Peri starts crying.
B: Peri challenges Selena to a cooking competition and wins.
A: Peri decides that she and Selena are best friends and cries until Selena agrees.
Review: As I’ve said before, Peri is funny if you ignore that her existence makes everyone else evil by association. Her deciding she wins at murder by default because no one else is a sociopathic murderer is fun.
Support: Keaton/Mozu
C: Mozu figures out from how Keaton smells that he's a country bumpkin.
B: Mozu reminisces about her village.
A: Mozu and Keaton go hunting. Mozu thanks Keaton for hanging out with her and making her feel better.
S: They get together because they're both country people.
Review: Not awful, but it could have benefited from saying more about Keaton’s youth or having something interesting happen. Overall, this one is just kinda bland.

Prompt #19: Wine
Ship: Orochi/Rinkah

AN: this was meant to be subtle and it is but I’m worried it is to the extent of just being platonic but it is meant to be shippy.
Orochi had been milling around the store, looking at pretty, shiny things that she didn’t really need to buy when Rinkah marched in. She was grinning to ear to ear, eyes all lit up and straight to the counter she went, giving Sakura jump as she was working it today.
“Has my package arrived yet?” Rinkah asked, though demanded of Sakura might be more accurate to her demand, as excited and well-meaning as it was.
Clutching onto her staff for moral support against the unrelenting inferno that was Rinkah, Sakura nodded shyly, “It sure has.” she murmured. “One second please.”
Orochi’s ears pricked up as she made herself scarce. She was a little bit curious and enjoyed knowing the on-goings of various members of the army. Information was as much a power as magic was so she thought she would observe from behind some shelves hosting some daruma dolls. She glanced back towards the counter and sure enough, Sakura had come back from the private storage with a box.
“A care package from home, is it?” she asked.
“Even better.” Rinkah beamed proudly.
“O-oh, I hope you enjoy then. Gifts from family are always nice.” Sakura agreed.
“Too true, kiddo, I’ll be seein’ ya.” Rinkah said and that was it.
Then, just like the blitz she came in with, Rinkah marched out but Orochi wasn’t going to be left in her dust nor her ashes. She skipped out from behind the shelf, bade goodbye to Sakura who was startled to see she had still been in here at all, and was equally quick to catch up with Rinkah as she retreated back to the barracks.
Outside the camp store, it surprised Orochi that it had gotten so dark. Her afternoon shopping must have taken longer than she realised or maybe winter was just stealing up all that precious time after lunch. It could be either way, even with spring just on the horizon.
“Hey Rinkah,” Orochi called out and Rinkah was polite enough to pause for her as she padded up to her, “how’s your day going?”
“Much, much better now.” Rinkah replied.
Orochi eyed up the box in Rinkah’s hands. She was holding it firmly so Orochi suspected whatever inside was valuable or breakable, maybe even both but the box itself was quite plain. Sturdy but plain-looking.
“Let me guess,” Orochi started and she put on mystical airs that made Rinkah laugh, “its because of that box.”
“The powers of a fortune teller, oh how us uninformed tremble.” Rinkah joked and Orochi laughed too. “But yeah, of course its because of the box. Or more accurately, what’s in it.”
“So… what is inside it?” Orochi asked, puckering her lips and widening her eyes in curiosity as she continued to walk with Rinkah to the barracks; they were all but on its doorsteps now.
“You’re telling me, you don’t know, court diviner?” Rinkah asked.
“I read the art on paper, not see through it literally.” Orochi defended herself.
Rinkah didn’t mind though and once she had her deep, throaty chuckle, her boisterous laughter turned mischievous, “Well then, guess you’ll be in for a surprise, c’mon, this kind of gift is better shared than not.”
“Sounds like my kind of gift then.” Orochi postured.
“That’s what I like to hear.” Rinkah grinned.
She and Orochi then scampered off to where Rinkah made her bed inside of the barracks. Rinkah’s set up was quite nice and even had a view of the Dragon Realms. It was perfect for this time of year, when the late winter was succumbing slowly to early spring making the twilight glimmer with snowmelt and dew all watched by the moon in the sky, no matter how pale or dark the sky was. This evening, it was dim but there was still a veil in front of the moon before dusk progressed any further than it did.
Rinkah sat down on the wooden decking that skirted the outside of her room and Orochi joined her. Rinkah then carefully sat down the box only to grab and rip it open with eager hands. The juxtaposition made Orochi giggle but she kept quiet as she really wanted to know what was inside that box and once Rinkah had torn away the paper safeguarding her keepsake, Orochi’s jaw dropped.
She couldn’t believe how beautiful Rinkah’s treasure was as she got it out of the box. Orochi had never seen craftsmanship like this. It was a tall bottle with a thin neck and a wide base. It was painted white with the most intricate and gorgeous of artistic detailing on its shell. It depicted monsters and fire and warriors of legend, or Orochi could only assume from the painting that had been done to it.
Rinkah glanced at Orochi and she swallowed a welt of bashfulness. She had never seen Orochi’s eyes sparkle quite like that so, she cleared her throat. Orochi could have jumped out of her skin but at least her greed, or whatever it was, seemed roped back in.
“You like it?” Rinkah asked as she continued to show the bottle off to Orochi.
“Like it?” Orochi exclaimed. “I love it. Is this from a family member or did they buy it?”
“All my clan is my family, thank you very much,” Rinkah corrected her, “so yeah. One of my uncles made it. Like, shaped and fired it. There ain’t no better kiln than the ones made an’ used by us in the Flame Tribe but his daughter would’ve been the one to paint it. They reckon she’s a prodigy when it comes to art.”
“I would believe that any day of the week.” Orochi gasped, marvelling at the bottle still.
“Thanks.” Rinkah said with pride.
“So is it… just for decoration?” Orochi asked.
“‘Course not, what good’s a bottle of sake if its got no sake in it? But trust me, this one’ll be making it to my grandchildren’s grandchildren if I’m lucky. Filled, refilled, drank from. C’mon, have a cup wit’ me, Orochi.”
“Oh, I couldn’t, this seems really precious. A family heirloom in the making, I couldn’t take that away from you, not even for a sip.” Orochi hastily replied.
“Nonsense.” Rinkah said and she slapped Orochi on the back. “Everything tastes better shared. Victories, food, and liquor too. Trus’ me.”
“If you insist.” Orochi replied.
Rinkah set down the bottle, the lacquer was shining in the late sunlight and early starlight. She then rummaged through the remnants of the box and its stuffing before drawing out two of the match cups.
Rinkah smiled and it was a rare soft smile from her, rather than her usual bawdiness or overconfidence. It came from a place of familial pride, perhaps even regret that she had to be so far away from home. She poured out the sake and it was nigh crystalline, Orochi noticed. She accepted the first poured out cup then waited for Rinkah to pour out to her own. In the meantime, Orochi’s eyes wandered back to the land and sky. It was the perfect seasonality for sake but maybe just too early in the night given that it was still a teensy bit day. Not that Rinkah appeared to mind in her excitement to have such an important gift in her hands.
In her reverie, Rinkah knocked on Orochi’s forearm with her knuckles, spilling a little bit of her drink and making Orochi wet. Orochi pouted at her but her cheek and her gall was too playful to be mad at, even mildly.
“Thank you for this drink.” Orochi said.
“Thank you muchly for the company.” Rinkah said.
“To the new spring and to the next summer!” Orochi and Rinkah agreed upon, their cups clinking together briefly, and with that, they both drank.
Rinkah guzzled down her shallow cup with ease, smacking her lips together in delight. That was the taste of home, after all. She could have drained the whole bottle then and there but a rare treasure of this calibre was to be savoured. Even if she could taste the homegrown rice and all the effort that went into making the sake and it really left her wanting more.
Orochi, however, had no time for such nostalgic thoughts. She’d downed hers too, just like Rinkah, and it left her sputtering. Her mouth felt like it was on fire. She’d never had spicy sake before, was that even possible? Her throbbing lips and burnt up tongue thought it so but damn if it didn’t light her up. It was addicting in a way the more mellow sake she was used to didn’t leave her.
“Oh, I should’ve told ya,” Rinkah said, amused with Orochi’s reaction, “this is our special Flame Sake, if it doesn’t put a fire in your belly, nothin’ will.”
“Th-The fire is lit. Don’t you worry.” Orochi stammered and even though she was sweating, she was smiling too, “I really like it, Rinkah.”
“Feels like you’ve skipped spring and gone straight for summer, huh?” Rinkah said.
“Y-Yeah, that’s a good way of putting it.” Orochi coughed into her hand.
“Spring’s a lot of good but you don’t want to be lazy during the change of seasons. This sake reminds us of that.” Rinkah said and she glanced at Orochi who was done with her coughing fit. “D’you wanna do this again next year? When I kept th’ next shipment…?”
“Rinkah, I’d love to join you drinking at the Flame Tribe, don’t think so defeatist, its’ not like you and doesn’t suit you, truth be told. The war’ll be over before autumn, don’t you worry.” Orochi assured her.
Rinkah shrugged, “Its jus’ the fighting never ends, y’know? I’m cocky but I don’t wanna be dumb about it.”
“Fair enough but still. Let’s have another drink. To… hm…” Orochi replied but her voice trailed off as she tried to think of something good and fitting to cheer on this next drink of Flame Tribe sake.
“To fortunes and friendships forged in fire.” Rinkah said.
Orochi nodded and soon enough, she was sculling more sake with Rinkah, arms interlocked. To exactly that: to fortunes and friendships forged in fire. May their fortunes be only good and may their friendship be only a boon unto them, the Flame Tribe, and Hoshido. Drinking under the day-night, late winter moon, they could only hope for many more years of this.

The Hoshidofam's genotype is Pegasus; Sakura and Ryouma share it as their secondary class and it's Hinoka's primary class. It's even Aqua's secondary class, showing the influence the Hoshido family had on her (this is why it's Shigure's base class and most likely why he has a Hoshidan name)
The outlier is, of course, perennial black sheep Takumi
Although Hinoka's promoted class can wield bows, she starts as a basic Pegasus Warrior--meaning that, unlike Camilla, it was never even imagined that Hinoka would try to claim the Fujin Yumi. The Conquest epilogue solidifies this; Hinoka only became queen when all male relatives were dead
Hinoka most likely picked Pegasus Warrior to train as because it's the ideal class for rescuing someone; fly in, fly out. Her secondary is also Spear Master, meaning that she's always naginata-focused; the naginata is often linked with women because it was a popular choice of wives defending households
The second is likely the same reason Oboro is a Spear Master. Oboro's secondary class, Apothecary, lets her access the closest thing Fates has to a Merchant class :')
Shinonome, on the third hand, is a Spear Master because it gets WTA over his father because he's a dick like that
The Kamuisexuals all have two extra classes, all representing different parts of their character
Ashura: Axe Fighter, a thuggish class that's Nohrian through-and-through, and Ninja, his original class in Kouga
Yukimura: Samurai and Priest, the base classes of Sumeragi and Mikoto, who he sees as parent figures
Yuugiri: Spellcaster to represent her close friendship with Orochi and Ninja because she was originally Kagerou to represent her previous role as retainer
Crimson: Knight and Outlaw. Stalwart defender, but also rebel.
Anna: Apothecary, because merchant, and Rod Knight, because Tricksters used staves in Awakening
Flora: Dark Mage and Mercenary, a nod to her being your enemy and changing sides. Incidentally, Felicia (who betrays Nohr) also has Mercenary. If a Buddy Seal is used, Felicia gains access to Dark Mage from Flora and Flora gets no benefit whatsoever. Just like real life :')
Izana: Samurai and Apothecary. He's a hard guy to get a handle on, but I think Samurai is supposed to represent his surprising fortitude (it's Ryouma's class, after all) and Apothecary how he's high as fuck his somewhat mercenary nature (staying neutral in the war)
Gunther: Mercenary and Wyvern Rider. Another betrayer.
Fuuga: Oni and Monk, a simple showing that he's a fierce fighter with a benevolent side. Incidentally, his base class is Samurai--that of his old friend, Sumeragi
Joker's Cavalier secondary represents his grudging affection for Gunther
Most children have their father's class set, occasionally with primary and secondary reversed (ie Leon is Dark Mage/Rod Knight and Foleo is Rod Knight/Dark Mage). Midoriko, Shinonome, and Lutz are the only oddballs
All three routes of Fates have differently-colored menu windows; Nohr and Hoshido disagree so much that they won't share something as fundamental as a text box
Ditto different promotion themes
All Hoshidan classes are written in kanji; all Nohrian classes are written in katakana, even if FE usually writes it in kanji (ie Mercenary), to represent how foreign the lands are to each other
My personal favorite example of how sharp this division feels is with Kamui's promoted class options; they're 白の血族 (lit White Blood, maybe localized to Dawn's Bloodline/Descendant) and ダークブラッド (Dark Blood, maybe Dusk's Descendant). Even if you can't read any Japanese, the shapes are just viscerally different
Fuuga, Flora, and Rinkah are all scions of their clans, represented by their similar ability names; Wind Blood, Ice Blood, and Fire Blood
Felicia, on the other hand, is loyal to Kamui first even though she's the favored daughter, and to represent that she's part of a skill family with Joker and Gunther instead

Rinkah narrowed her gaze upon the dragonborn, noticing the missing accessory. Indeed, something had seemed off about her, although Rinkah would not have realized what it was until Megan spoke of her earrings.
"Where were you when you had them last?" The oni questioned, she understood well the loss of a particular accessory, Megan's earrings were much like Rinkah and her mask. "In your quarters? The baths?"
✥ | “Oh, gods…!” One panicked dragon princess can be seen running about, and there’s something slightly different about the girl. “H-Has anyone seen my earrings–?! They’re shaped like swords, but they’re pretty small…anyone–?!” Her earlobes had the pierced holes where normally her earrings would be, but they’re gone. The expression of sheer panic was on Megan’s face, and she’s been looking for them ever since they disappeared this morning.
“Anyone at all–?!” I really hope that I didn’t lose them for good…! (And god forbid anyone if someone stole that accessory from her.)

My favorite Fire Emblem character is a very strong white-haired, axe-wielding woman; who has a red, black and gold color scheme; who is the daughter of a leader and who eventually takes on that leadership position herself; who lets her anger get the better of her sometimes; who greatly enjoys both fish and sweets; and who is often associated with flame imagery
But is it Rinkah, or is it Edelgard von Hresvelg
#fire emblem#fe3h#edelgard von hresvelg#rinkah fire emblem#spoiler alert: it's rinkah#edelgard is wonderful too though#i just still find it hilarious how many subtle similarities these two have#like wow guess I do have a type

Fire Emblem Birthright Family Moment by DMBLaan
First of BIG thanks to CrimsonDeaki who drew this for me. (here's a link to her page, which everyone should check out and support. crimsondeaki.deviantart.com/) Here we have my MU and his family, (wife) Rinkah and (daughter) Kana, spending some well deserved quality time together. Plus, I always had the idea that Rinkah would have some sort of semi secret arts and crafts based hobby, so it made sense to me when she made a flower press book for lil Kana.

Felicia: Both ice and fire can kill people. And both ice and fire can save people’s lives. But they have to co-exist to function.

Felicia: If we let our ancestors’ petty disagreement get between us, we’ll just kill ourselves and everyone we love, just like them.

Stardate: 2689
Chapter 5: Sugar, Spice, Chocolate, and Ice
a fire emblem heroes fic by me and @pupmon1
Semi-NSFW: Nudity and implied sex near the end.
Captain’s log: XX/XX/2689. Lyndis. Our ship has docked at a refueling station in neutral territory, specifically the planet Materna. Apparently their sovereign government, convinced by our Nohrian and Hoshidian delegates, is sending two emissaries, a delegate from the government named Rinkah, and a mercenary hired to protect her. I have never personally met this mercenary, but Camilla assured me that she had called on her services and she was serviceable, if...”difficult”. At present time, I have allowed the crew some leave on the station, though a few of us still have duties to perform.
“Hey, I heard we were getting some new crew today,” Flora mentioned as she, Peri, and Setsuna were inspecting the station.
“Did they say who?” Peri asked. “Hopefully nobody mean...Camilla said I couldn’t thwack anybody anymore...”
Flora shrugged. “Some bounty hunter with an axe. I didn’t recognize her. Oh, and a delegate from the Maternan government, the daughter of the chief.”
As they rounded a corner, Flora spotted her. She was tall, looked very strong, wore an oddly skimpy white suit of battle armor, long blond hair contrasting her dark skin, and a white bow. She was actively carrying her axe.
“CHARLOTTE!” Peri exclaimed.
The woman whirled around, a look of astonishment on her face. “...PERI???”
Peri immediately tackle-hugged Charlotte. “It’s been so long! What’re you doing here?”
Charlotte stumbled and fell backward, laughing with Peri on top of her. “Hey there Peri, I’m here to...serve a little time.”
“Huh? What for?” Peri asked.
“Oh ya know...smuggling and the like. The Union bastards caught me and have sticked me on one of their ships. Something called the...Kinshi?”
“That would be our ship,” Flora said. “Hello, I’m Flora. Peri’s...uh...friend...yeah let’s go with that...”
Charlotte looked up, a little confused. “Friend? Is something going on here, Peri-berry?”
Setsuna chuckled. “Peri-berry? Aww. Cute.”
Peri shrugged. “Friend, amateur therapist, nearly murder victim. She’s a lot of things.”
“Mostly I’m a janitor,” Flora said sourly.
“A janitor?” Charlotte paused for a moment. “Huh...you usually don’t get along with those.”
“Yeah, she mentioned usually killing the red shirts,” Flora said. “I....uh...stopped her from killing me, at least, that’s something.”
“Aww, you’ve helped more than that,” Peri said.
“She’s right,” Setsuna added. “Don’t think she’s killed anyone this whole mission...”
“Wait really?” Charlotte raised an eyebrow. “Like...nobody? How long has this mission been going on?”
“...two months?” Setsuna said, looking to Flora for confirmation. Flora nodded. “Yes, two months, about.”
“...I’m impressed.”
Setsuna looked away and darted off, mumbling “be right back...need some snuggles...”
Flora nodded sympathetically.
Peri grinned at Charlotte. “So, ya want me to take you around the ship? We have all sorts of cool weapons...ooo, and the holodeck makes enemies that bleed!”
“Sounds fun,” Charlotte said with that characteristic grin of hers.
Flora sighed. Wonderful...seems like Charlotte was going to be just as difficult as Peri. Still...she couldn’t deny a certain...attraction to Peri...perhaps she could warm up to this new woman as well.
---
As Peri led Charlotte across the ship, a small red comm in Charlotte’s belt went off. “...oh great...I gotta go to the cargo bay, where is that?”
“We’ll lead you there,” Peri responded. “C’mon!”
When they got to the cargo bay, all three captains were waiting, along with a tall, muscular woman with white hair, traditional Flame Tribe garb, and markings on her arms that flickered lightly, like a moderate fire. “Charlotte!” the woman exclaimed with a loud laugh. “There you are. We’ve been waiting.”
Charlotte eyed the captains and suddenly took on a more serious, submissive expression, snapping to attention. “Yes, Rinkah. My apologies.” She turned to the captains. “I’m ready to be part of your crew, I was just...visiting an old friend. Hope that’s okay.”
Flora raised her eyebrow, and Peri gave her a concerned expression, muttering something that sounded like “oh, Charlotte...different mask, same principle...”
The Nohrian captain laughed and smiled. “It’s fine dear, it’s fine. You’re here, and that’s what’s important.”
“If you say so.” Charlotte remained at attention, then looked down at herself. “...apologies for my outfit, if you have a uniform in my size I’ll change immediately.”
The Nohrian captain let out a long sigh and held up a hand. “We will deal with that when you get settled in. For now, at ease. There’s no need to be so formal with us, right girls?”
The two others just nodded and smiled.
“...whatever you say, Captain...Camilla, right?”
“Correct. And this is Captian Lyndis, and Captian Lucina. Get used to taking orders from all three of us, as I’m sure you’re not used to a ship with three captians.”
“...you’re baiting me.”
“I-...I’m sorry?” Camilla frowned and looked down at Charlotte. “What are you talking about?”
“Experience with past employers.” Charlotte winced. “...sorry, captain...captains...
“You have got to relax,” Camilla said simply. “If you’re going to be on the ship, ya gotta relax.”
Peri elbowed Charlotte. “It’s okay, they’re alright. Masks off, Char.”
Charlotte looked at her strangely...then smiled and relaxed her stance. “Alright, if you say so. If Peri says you’re okay, you’re okay...probably...Can you explain the three captains thing, though?”
Camilla chuckled and crossed her arms. “Long story short: Union be weird.” Camilla said simply.
“Oh, yeah.” Charlotte grimaced and muttered “no scholarship system my ass...”
“She’s a little angry at them,” Peri explained. “I got shipped off to the academy and we couldn’t see each other anymore.”
“Who isn’t at this point,” Lucina muttered with a shrug. “Anyway, you and Rinkah are able to go on the ship and get comfortable.”
“I don't suppose you have any single-person rooms?” Rinkah asked.
“Can I room with Peri?” Charlotte asked.
“Sorry, no. Peri’s room is full. You two will be bunking together along with…” Lyndis stopped and looked down at her pad. “Flora and her sister.”
Charlotte groaned, but Peri smiled. “It’s alright, I spend a lot of time in there! Having uh...special time with Flora. Her sister usually hangs out with one of the fighters...what was her name again?”
“Scarlet,” Flora said.
Charlotte looked surprised when Peri mentioned “special time”, but not quite angry, more... intrigued.
Rinkah nodded. “As long as none of you disturb me on purpose, I’ll be fine.”
Lyn nodded. “Charlotte, you will be taking on the duties of a regular crew member. Rinkah, you may choose to do tasks based on your whims.”
Charlotte and Rinkah nodded and entered the ship.
A few hours later, the ship detached from the station and continued on its way, and Flora and Felicia began giving the new crewmembers a tour. Flora followed behind them speaking quickly. “I can guide you to our room, and to the quartermaster’s desk to order things.”
“All I think I need is a uniform,” Charlotte said. “The rest is in my bags...though I hope they make it in my size.”
“They make it in Camilla’s size, I assure you they’ll make it in yours.”
“Good point.”
Rinkah shook her head. “I’m not wearing a uniform. These clothes are important...and shirts are uncomfortable.
“That’s the one thing you have to do,” Flora pointed out. “It’s not really optional. You at least need the shirt while on duty.”
Rinkah grumbled. “If I must...”
“Yes you have to. But you can edit it how ever you like. You just have to wear it on duty.”
“Ah.” Rinkah shrugged. “I suppose I could ‘edit’ it to fit my liking...”
“Good, now, here’s our quarters, make yourself at home.”
Rinkah sat down on one of the beds and immediately began unpacking her things, taking out her large brass club and setting it to the side. Charlotte flopped down on a bed, grinning. “Heh...more comfortable than the one in your house...”
“Too soft.” Rinkah frowned. “My bed was better for my back...gonna pull a muscle or something with this.”
“You’ll be fine. They probably have a sparring range, we’ll both stay in top shape.” Charlotte responded. She pulled up a tablet and pen and started writing. “Gotta write this down...” After she was done, she paused. “Hey...quick question.”
“Yeah?” Rinkah asked.
“Are you okay with...uh...polyamory? Or does the Flame Tribe have a rule against that, like the betrothal-by-combat thing?”
Rinkah chuckled. “Yeah, on a personal level I’m okay with it.”
“Oh, good.”
“...it’s Peri, isn’t it?”
Charlotte smiled, but the smile had a tinge of sadness to it. “It’s been so long since we talked...I worry about her. I hope I can keep an eye on her...”
Rinkah smiled, leaned over, kissed her on the cheek and lightly punched her in the shoulder. “Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.”
---
“I feel claustrophobic,” Rinkah grumbled, tugging at her new yellow shirt. “My arms are not meant to be concealed...”
“And we’re wearing each others’ colors,” Charlotte said, tugging at her new red shirt which was...uncomfortably tight in several places.
“What did ya expect, the height of fashion?” Severa said, a bit too smugly. She always enjoyed giving orders, to...well, anyone. “It’s form over function. Now, you, mercenary will be joining security as patrol.”
“Alright.” Charlotte responded. “Acknowledged...uh...ensign...Selena?”
“Officer Severa.”
“Right, got it, officer. So sorry,” Charlotte said innocently, then flashed Rinkah a grin when Severa’s back was turned.
Severa turned her back to the two and grumbled something about Selena being a stupid name, then she stopped. There was a strange sound in the corridor...something being dragged along the ground.
“Well...this had to happen eventually. The unofficial member of our crew.”
Beruka rounded the corner, wearing a fresh Starfleet uniform with an extra-long left sleeve. Her cybernetics were mostly cleaned up. She noticed the two and waved her right arm.
She shambled forward and looked over at Severa. “Good day, Security Officer Severa.”
“Well, someone sounds more personable,” Severa said with a laugh.
“This unit have been...practicing social skills with Weapons Officer Sestuna. She told us it’s proper to greet people when you see them.”
“Correct.”
Behind Severa, Rinkah was backing up and Charlotte looked utterly confused.
“I’ve....” Charlotte was nearly at a loss for words. “...I’ve...seen...one of those before...but never one that didn’t want to murder people...”
Beruka peered around Severa, her red eye examining the two new crewmen. “...the two new organics Commander mentioned?”
“Yes...and please stop referring to crewmen as ‘organics’.”
“But that’s what you are.”
“...she’s not wrong,” Rinkah said.
“Don’t enable her…” Severa grumbled. “Anyway, this is Beruka, she came with the ship and is unofficially part of the engineering crew.”
“...interesting...uh...” Charlotte leaned down. “...hi?”
Beruka leaned away as Charlotte got close, but didn’t respond to her greeting.
“...guess you’re not much for conversation,” Charlotte said, with an awkward forced-politeness to her voice.
“She’s really not...especially if she doesn’t know someo-”
“Charlotte, human Nohrian mercenary. Will do anything for a quick buck, as Commander puts it,” Beruka said plainly. “Organic morals need not apply.”
“Hey, she has morals!” Rinkah said angrily. “And she’s sure as hell refused a lot of bribes to have me knocked off...”
Beruka blinked as Rinkah got...uncomfortably close. “Move away, organic.”
“Have I made my point?”
“Move away,” Beruka repeated, her left arm trembling a little.
Severa put a hand on Rinkah’s shoulder and tried to pull her back. “Rinkah...she doesn’t like people to be that close to her, move back...give her space.”
Rinkah grumbled and pulled back. “...right, probably shouldn’t piss her off...”
Beruka relaxed as she was given space, and she nodded. “...thank you…” she muttered softly. “You...were too close...this unit should go.”
“...look, I’m sorry,” Rinkah muttered gruffly.
“......error…” Beruka twitched, her human eye closing and her red eye glowing. “Data unavailable...can’t calculate behavior...this unit doesn’t understand.”
Severa sighed and crossed her arms. “Translation: she can’t find anything about you in the database...so she doesn’t know what to make of you.”
“Oh yeah. Our planet is pretty cut off, tech-wise. We have a proud history of mostly isolationism.”
Beruka paused and grunted. “Surprised we haven’t assimlated your kind…” she muttered. “Isolation is prime prey.”
“They attacked our outer stations, but never came to our home planet,” Rinkah said softly, glancing away. “...we still lost many...as others have. Just...no planets.”
Charlotte put a hand on her shoulder. “...I’m pretty sure that someday someone will find out how to stop them. Don’t worry too much about it.”
“WORRY? There’s one RIGHT THERE!” Rinkah exclaimed, pointing.
“There is no way to stop the borg,” Beruka said simply. “All will be assimilated...all will be made perfect. Resistance is futile.”
“...be more of a ray of sunshine why don’t ya…” Severa grumbled, rolling her eyes.
“...I think we’ll be...going...now...” Charlotte said, glancing at Rinkah’s arms. The fiery marks on them were...well, not firey. That meant very bad things...crying, sometimes. Complete emotional shutdown sometimes.
Beruka tilted her head for a moment, then suddenly turned around and walked away without another word. Severa sighed and closed her eyes. “...I apologize for her...she doesn’t understand…”
“Hey Severa...is there a bar here?”
Severa looked up and nodded. “Yeah...it’s by the cafeteria.”
“Alright. Come on, Rinkah.”
-----
Charlotte and Rinkah sat down at the bar, Rinkah still shuddering a bit.
“Oi. Bartender.” Charlotte said to the bartender, who had long blue hair and an outfit that made her look like a betta fish. “A shot of bourbon, and some sake if you have it.”
The woman looked up and nodded. “Of course dear,” she said with a smile before placing a small glass of bourbon, and a cup of sake, along with a small ceramic container, on the counter. “A tall lager pint for you?”
“Uh...yeah. How’d you know?”
The woman simply smiled. “You just...look like a lager kinda gal,” she said as she poured a glass of lager.
Rinkah grabbed the bourbon and sake and downed it all.
“Don’t think that’s how you do that...” Charlotte said concernedly. “...or how you usually drink...”
“Oh she’ll be fine,” the bartender said with a smile before turning to mix a drink.
“Gah!” Rinkah shouted. “I...I feel kinda better...” The fire on her arms and in her eyes was flickering back to life. “...gods...”
The bartender set out four drinks...something Rinkah recognizes from her home...it’s a special drink to be shared among...well...lovers. The bartender simply smiled and whisked away to other patrons before they could flag her down.
“Where the hell did she get this?” Rinkah asked. “...I mean we export our liquor n’ stuff but not this kind...”
Charlotte shrugged. “...why are there four? And...should we drink it?”
Before Rinkah could answer, Peri and Flora, or more so Peri dragging Flora, came up to sit beside Charlotte.
“Hey Charlotte!” Peri said happily. “Order too many drinks? Can we have the extra?”
Rinkah hesitated but Charlotte said, “Heya, Peri! Sure.”
Peri grabbed one and started drinking. “Tastes...kinda weird...like white chocolate and dried chili peppers and that weird blue flavoring they put on shaved ice...”
Flora made a few ice cubes and sipped hers. “Hmm...I taste the peppers and the chocolate but I’m not getting the blue flavor but I can kinda taste...sugar...It’s really sweet, but not quite unpleasant?”
Charlotte stopped and looked over and Rinkah. “...can it be more than two…?”
Rinkah simply shrugged. “Why not…?” She tasted hers. There was that familiar white chocolate flavor...but also a lot of sugar, and what Rinkah assumed was the weird blue flavor. Certainly tastes blue..and sour...
“Blueberries…” she muttered softly. “...that’s what this is...maybe…? But it’s tart... and sugar, and white chocolate.”
“Blue raspberry,” Peri corrected her. “Really it’s nothing that exists on Earth or any Earthlike planets, but they had to name it something...it just tastes blue.”
Charlotte shrugged and downed her drink. “...no white chocolate here...but everything else is there…”
Peri shrugged and giggled. “That was weird...those flavors aren’t supposed to fit but...they did? It was cool!”
Flora squirmed and put the glass on the counter. “...what was that anyway?”
“Fire Heart,” Rinkah replied, not meeting anyone’s gaze.
“Never heard of it.” Flora said. “Do your people make it?”
“Yes...but we don’t export it...even on my planet it’s kind of rare.”
“It’s a ceremonial thing,” Charlotte said. “Me and Rinkah have had it before...but...last time we both only tasted one flavor...”
“What’s the ceremony?” Flora wondered, peering over Peri.
“...uh...” Rinkah and Charlotte fidgeted uncomfortably, Rinkah’s fire burning actively now.
“It’s...supposed to be...well...used for…” Rinkah grasped for words. “It’s...a ceremony in private before people…” Rinkah trailed off and looked at Charlotte.
“...I’m not saying it in front of Peri, no way,” Charlotte hissed.
“It’s usually drunken before sex,” the bartender said simply as she moved past to grab a bottle and whisking away again, leaving Rinkah’s face bright red and fire burning hot, and Charlotte just...burying her face in her hands.
Flora literally froze, her hands were stuck to the table. “It’s...I must have misheard that. It’s what???”
“You didn’t miss hear…” Charlotte muttered between her fingers. “It’s a ‘we’re gonna have sex for the first time’ drink at it’s heart.”
“It’s...not that simple,” Rinkah managed. “But...yeah...I think it’s akin to...a honeymoon tradition back on Earth?”
Peri was blushing so red she looked like a tomato. “And...and I just...walked up and drank it...”
“What were you thinking??” Flora asked, not blushing so much as turning light blue.
“...it’s supposed to taste like your partner…” Rinkah muttered. “I-...I don't know why there were three…”
“The bartender just gave it to us…” Charlotte groaned and put her head on the counter, hiding her face in her arm.
Peri paused...and then burst out laughing.
“What is it?” Charlotte moaned from the counter.
“I was...hee-hee! I was...I walked up here to...hehehe, to ask you two out!” she said between spurts of giggling.
“Well...looks like the fucking drink accepted for us…” Charlotte grumbled.
“...fucking bartender…” Rinkah grumbled.
Charlotte noticed the looks on Flora and Peri’s faces and she sighed. “...it doesn't taste right if people aren't supposed to be together…” She groaned and settled down a little. “...blasted little thing can nullify a week's worth of other compatibility rituals...it works the other way ‘round too… Rinkah is legally in a relationship with all three of us now…”
Flora nearly fainted. “...we...wait what?”
“You can skip to the honeymoon if you get your hands on Fire Heart…” Rinkah muttered, twitching a little. “Straight there...and everything else is legally approved...so...yeah...and now it’s kicking in…”
“Do we need to go?” Charlotte asked softly.
“...no…not...not yet…”
Peri sorta started...leaning her soft shoulder on Charlotte and Rinkah. “...feels like ‘ere’s a fire in my belly…” she muttered softly.
Flora’s ice started melting. “I...I think I’m going to need a moment or two to...to process this...”
Peri shifted positions and nudged Flora with a dopey smile. “Come on Flora...it won’t be so bad...Charlotte’s nice...and so is Rinkah…”
“...hmmm...” Flora looked over to them. “Well...they are...certainly attractive...don’t think I’ve gotten to know them enough, though...”
Rinkah twitched and shivered. “Yeah well...it deems us...ah...compatible…”
“Rinkah? Are you okay?”
“...no…”
Peri leaned over her, grinning. “D’we need to find a room?”
“...s-soon...yes…”
Peri hefted herself up and took Rinkah, Charlotte, and Flora’s hands in her own. “Then let’s,” she said, uncharacteristically charmingly.
Flora pulled away and shivered. “I-...Peri! What are you suggesting?” she fumbled over her words and looked at the others. “This...this is...inappropriate.”
“No, it’s totally according to rules and stuff. Right?” she said, looking at Rinkah.
“Ah...it is...according to the rules...w-we...are to...ah…” Rinkah put a hand on her head, her fingers twitching. “...it’s...getting hard to think…”
“Then we have to hurry,” Charlotte said with a soft grin. “I r’member last time...heh...say we got ‘bout...five minutes left?”
“It’s...starting to effect...you two too...isn’t it?” Rinkah mumbled.
Peri giggled and smiled. “I...I don’t know what you mean. But I feel...really warm…”
Flora snapped her fingers...and made a burst of slushy water. “...can’t make ice...I’m getting warm too...”
Charlotte chuckled and leaned against Rinkah gently. “We...gotta hurry...right? Before ya...comp’ete’y loose it?”
“...that would...be preferred…” she responded.
“Then c’mon!” Peri said, helping the other three up and heading to the door.
“But...but...” Flora was blushing.
Rinkah growled and shivered. “Just...just admit you want to fuck us before I take you on the counter,” she said firmly.
“.......okay yeah maybe I do...” Flora whispered.
“Then let’s go…” Rinkah hissed.
“Alright...” Flora shakily got up and followed them, refusing to make eye contact with anyone in the room.
Peri smiled and led them to an empty room...the door locking behind them.
--------
Flora woke up in a dogpile. She slowly opened her eyes and looked around. She found Peri laying to her right, Charlotte to her left...and Rinkah laying across all three. She groaned and put a hand on her head.
“...my head hurts...what...what happened…?”
“...we all got fuckin hangovers...” Charlotte moaned.
“...you sure that was a...ritual?”
“Course it was…” Rinkah groaned. “...you agreed to come in here…and...hooo boy...for someone who thought this was inappropriate...you were really good.”
“...I...what...” Flora sputtered. “...we...I...how...I...”
Rinkah pulled herself up and crawled over, the other two groaning as the heating pad left their laps. She settled down into Flora’s lap and leaned down, lightly placing her hands on Flora’s bare chest.
“We had sex, darling,” she cooed with a grin. “And...for a little ice queen...you were very hot~”
“...okay, several questions...and I’m surprised I did well...” Flora got up.
“You were very good with your tongue~” Rinkah teased, leaning back to let Flora get up.
Flora’s face turned dark blue, but she didn’t let Rinkah have the pleasure of her faltering. “...where’s my uniform?”
Rinkah nodded over to a pile of clothes on the floor. “Under there...Peri insisted we make you comfortable first, so you were the first one to...have fun, should I say.”
“...okay...” Flora put a hand on her head. “...now I remember...yeah...it was...fun....”
“It was enjoyable...to watch you turn blue with my fingers in you~” Rinkah said with a grin.
Peri giggled. “...that rhymed...”
Flora blushed even more. “....y-yeah...” She quickly dressed herself. “...hey, if we’re going with this...can we have like, a regular date? Or...lots...”
Rinkah frowned as Flora go dressed, taking her place between Charlotte and Peri. “Of course. Whatever you want...I can’t speak for these two, but I have no intention of forcing anyone to do something they don’t want to do.”
“Same,” the other two girls groaned.
“...I can’t really full well say ‘I love you’ yet...” Flora began
“You don’t have to say anything…” Charlotte mumbled. “Sex is sex...love is love...they aren’t solely inclusive of each other.
“...but...I like all three of you…” she continued, ignoring Charlotte’s comment, “and I’ve been lying to myself for a while, so...maybe this could work out.”
Peri smiled and nuzzled closer to Rinkah. “Good...maybe you can’t say it...but I can. I love you three...you were...so good and gentle…”
Charlotte smiled and leaned up. “Would you mind coming back and laying down with us? It’s...it’s kinda...too hot without you…”
“...sure,” Flora said, smiling. She walked back over and laid directly down on Peri.
Peri squirmed and inched away, until Flora was off her soft torso. “Don’t be a doodle…” Peri grumbled, playfully glaring at Flora.
Rinkah lifted Flora and gently turning her to lay across all three, Charlotte sighing in comfort as Peri started absently petting Flora’s head as it rested on her chubby belly.
“That’s better…” Charlotte mumbled.
Rinkah sighed happily. “Nice and cool…”
Flora smiled again. “...I could get used to this...”
Charlotte sighed and nuzzled closer. “Well...this is what most of Fire Tribe relationships are...snuggles when not running around like a chicken with your head cut off.”
“Down time is more important than anything...we don’t get much of it…” Rinkah chuckled absently. “That drink is so we actually...do it...instead of just laying there snuggling….”
“Sounds fun...” Flora said.

Hayato is an awesome spouse for the Fates avatar
And here’s my take on the reasons why.
I think that a lot of people see the avatar of Fire Emblem Fates as a representation of the player, so when it comes to choosing a character for the avatar to S-support, most of the time they’ll go for whoever the player personally finds attractive. (Either that or they’ll go for whoever provides good gameplay benefits.) And that’s cool. That’s usually the way I play it, too. But one day I got to thinking: if you consider Corrin to be their own character, instead of a representation of the player, then who would make a good spouse for them?
I should note that I’m talking purely about story and character right now, not gameplay benefits. Anyway, Corrin is not a silent protagonist, you know? They have their own personality, which they show in support conversations and such.
I admit to being kind of biased in this regard because I love Hayato, but I do think he has genuine reasons to fit well with Corrin. Of course, when it comes down to it, these are all just my opinions and anyone is free to disagree. I just wanted to take this moment to talk about the things that, in my view, make them a good match.
After chapter 8 of Birthright, during the cutscene when Hayato is recruited, Fuga remarks that this is Hayato’s first chance to get out of the village and travel. The avatar then comments that they are in a similar situation, having grown up while locked inside a Nohrian castle. Both Hayato and Corrin had sheltered childhoods. Both are naïve and eager to see the world. Fuga even says, “I’m sure you two will have a lot to talk about.” Not only do Corrin and Hayato have something in common, but the script itself takes the time to point it out.
Then there’s the support conversations, which are sweet. It starts when Corrin helps Hayato write a letter to send home. From there, the two of them feel inspired to write more, and so they basically become pen pals to each other. Sharing a hobby is a great foundation for any relationship. Letter-writing in particular is nice because the exchange of love letters is a classic romance trope.
The letters they write are cute, too. In the A support, Corrin gives Hayato a letter that’s filled with praise for him. The letter points out his “fine handwriting” and his skill for making charms. The support script didn’t mention any other details, but Corrin’s letter probably had more examples than just that, given Hayato’s reaction: “Why is my name all over this letter?” He’s given so many compliments that he’s embarrassed. Let it sink in that Corrin found so many good qualities in Hayato that they could write a whole letter about it. The S support gives a natural continuation of this storyline, with Hayato paying back the avatar by writing a letter all about them. And of course his writing is just as flattering. They both have many specific traits that they like about each other.
Another reason to back this pairing – and this one is a bit strange, having less to do with the couple themselves, but nonetheless I like this detail. This pairing makes Rhajat’s character substantially less creepy. If Corrin marries Hayato, she becomes Rhajat’s mother, which changes the nature of their relationship. Rhajat’s love of the avatar now looks like the love of a caring daughter instead of an eerie stalker.
Of course, I know that opinions vary on that one. Some people think that Rhajat being the avatar’s daughter actually makes her affection more unsettling. But . . . personally, I choose not to perceive it that way.
One more thing: Hayato, as the adopted son of Fuga, is the heir to the Wind Tribe. (In his ending in the credits, it says that he eventually took over as the Tribe’s leader when Fuga retired.) He occupies the same kind of position as Felicia and Flora of the Ice Tribe, and Rinkah of the Flame Tribe. I have heard that some people like to ship Ryoma and Rinkah because it unifies Hoshido with the Flame Tribe. It’s the same idea with Hayato – his marriage to a Hoshidan princess creates a connection between Hoshido and the Wind Tribe.
The Tribes are woefully underdeveloped in Fates, so it’s hard to make any statements about them, but I always got the impression that being the child of a Tribe’s chief gave you basically the same standing as a prince or princess. In fact, it always confused me that other characters did not refer to Rinkah, Felicia, Flora, and Hayato with “Lord” and “Lady” titles like the Hoshidan and Nohrian siblings get.
Okay, I’m probably venturing too far into my own head canons here . . . But the point still stands that Hayato marrying the avatar would unify Hoshido and the Wind Tribe in a major way. In some ways, it feels reminiscent of the friendship that the late King Sumeragi once had with Fuga.
Anyway, those are some of my thoughts on the avatar/Hayato pairing. There are other small details that I could mention, but I believe those are my main points. Wow, this post ended up a lot longer than I expected. It’s been a while since I last played Fates, but I guess I still had a good deal to say about a character I really like.

Clans of Hoshido: Inazuma (稲妻)
One winter night, the sword smith was brought a core of foreign, ancient metal that sparked blue. The mystery traveler cloaked in white offered an insurmountable sum of money for a nebulous request.
“Forge me a sword that will call forth the heavens and bring hope from afar.”
Not fully understanding what the traveler meant but persuaded easily by coin, the sword smith worked for thirty days undisturbed in his shop on the highest peak of the northern mountains. He returned to his patient customer with a dazzling blade fitted in white and gold. The patron tried the blade for himself in an empty clearing and brought forth a bolt of lightning. Pleased by the workmanship, the patron pulled back his cloak, revealing the divine visage of the Dawn Dragon Dion. As thanks, the dragon blessed the smith with good luck in addition to the original payment, and the two hoped they would meet again.
Dion never truly returned to the north mountains, but the smith made well with his newfound riches and spent the rest of his life forging swords and teaching his sons and daughters to do the same. Years later in the war of divided states, Nariko, a descendant of the swordsmith, had a chance encounter with a man named Nobuyuki, the young lord of the rising Yamato clan, wielding the great white sword forged by his ancestor. Becoming the most unlikely of friends, the young lord and swordsman joined arms in a great quest to unify the east lands. To defeat the last of the opposing lords, the two reforged the lighning sword into a better one, which Nobuyuki inscribed “Raijinto”. Nariko’s family gained great renown for assisting the Yamato Clan, who eventually won all of Hoshido.
Today, the family of Inazuma have moved beyond the art of sword making to wielding swords themselves and governing the land. Now a noble family, the Inazuma are loyal to the Hoshidan crown, maintaining a friendship with the Yamato clan that has endured for centuries. The Inazuma domain is now also home to many sword smiths who have learned the Inazuma technique of sword making and enjoy a great many patrons from many warriors in the east lands. A sword made in an Inazuma smithy is said to be unparalleled.
Wait why did I put a fox in that aesthetic photo set?
Crest Design
The stylistic motif of lightning is called “inazuma”. In this case, you have some of them put together to form a knot. It’s nice and square-ish, and is shaped in reference to the auspicious Buddhist symbol called “manji” in Japanese (and solely in reference to that, nothing else). Patterns using manji as a base appear commonly on courtesans and military heroines like Tomoe Gozen, or clothing of warriors and sumo wrestlers.
On another note, in consideration of the unfortunate implications that follow the manji, I had rotated the symbol to be a square rather than a diamond. If there is still an issue with the design, I will change it to a triple inazuma instead of four.
Notable Members
Souji - the former head, Hana and Isamu’s father, a good friend to the previous king and died valiantly defending him from an assassin
Isamu - Hana’s brother, current head, Third Seat of the Council of Seven, considered to be very weak willed compared to his father
Hana - Royal retainer to Princess Sakura, Isamu’s younger sister
Ema - Hana and Isamu’s cousin, Sky Knight Corps, a young, spirited sky knight in training who is a little too proud of her inexperience
Nariko Inazuma - official founder and first matriarch of the Inazuma family, a skilled swordsmith and companion of first king of Hoshido
Fun Notes and Facts
It’s rather surprising that Hana comes from snow country, but hey, what can you do?
One of the Inazumas’ training regimens involve working out in the biting cold to build tolerance (yes, Isamu does that stuff too)
Also they often complain of how hot it is in the capital even though the weather is fair
The Inazumas are a major supplier of weapons to the Sky Knight Corps, who are always in need of well crafted naginata
As per tradition, most of the Inazumas are samurai, so Isamu is also a swordsmaster
Most people assume that Hana is the more diligent sibling of the two, but anyone close to him know full well how many hours he spends actually working and training
Hana often talks of her brother in high regard and gets annoyed when people are surprised
Ryoma often jokes that Isamu is better off being a ninja because he doesn’t like declaring his presence in battle and hates shouting
Most of his students (those who see through his pushover personality and are “nuts” enough to ask some lazy person to teach them) greatly respect his patience and nurturing teaching style
Hana also intimidates any students who think they can push her brother around, so there’s that, too
The Inazuma are understandably a parallel to the Lovells, much like how the Amachi mirror the Albrands
Considering the tension Hana and Silas both have in the original game, maybe they can find common ground over this
Claudia and Isamu would get along pretty well, too, and Isamu would have a lot of sympathy for Claudia losing her girlfriend
Isamu and Ryoma are good friends with each other, although Ryoma often is surprised that Isamu hasn’t died because of his merciful nature
Hana and Ryoma worry that Isamu is too much of a doormat and often try to get him to stand up for himself more
Hana really loves her brother, she really does, but she hates it when Isamu sacrifices stuff for her
It would suck to kill him if you didn’t persuade Rinkah beforehand at the Nestrian opera house, and it would suck to tell Hana and Ryoma you killed this nice guy who didn’t deserve to die
Out of the entire council, Isamu is okay with Azura’s place as part of the royal family
Azura keeps staying out of his way because she doesn’t really fathom he could be genuinely nice
He reminds her too much of Thomas, too
The wild foxes are very friendly to the Inazumas and are often allowed to just roam around their grounds
Isamu objected greatly to Katsura Chiura’s attack on the Kitsunes, in one of his rare less pushover moments
He persuaded Queen Mikoto to close off the Kitsune’s territory as prohibited hunting grounds
He makes it imperative that he visits the fox shrines in the south once every year, and has had run ins with the likes of Kaden, who initially liked to mess around with him but then just stopped pranking him because the guy’s just too nice and accepting to make fun of
After Kaden’s village is destroyed by Faceless, Isamu and Hana help the survivors establish a new home in his domain, much further away from their original home (they can’t go back because the Faceless are kinda toxic to be around)
The Inazumas have a contentious relationship with the Fire Clan that Rinkah and Kumagera come from, so there’s been talk that Isamu may have to marry Rinkah for better relations
Kumagera and Souji were fairly civil but stayed out of each others’ way, with a few territorial disputes
Isamu tries to make amends by returning any stolen land bit by bit, although this has lowered the other nobles’ opinion of him. Not like he really cares, to be honest.
Coincidentally, a possible promotion for the Oni Savage class is the Blacksmith class, so that fits right in with the Inazuma domain’s specialty
Music Accompaniment: Wei - Overture DEEP BLUE I. History
