(warnings: implied/referenced child murder and death, blood and bruises, implied alcoholism/alcohol abuse (lyrics), self-hatred)
putting this under the cut, just to be safe.
it's some Jack Kennedy Angst. because of course.
Tumblr media
"I've really done it this time,
Where's there for me to go?
God damn it, I don't know!
How could I ever know?!"
hey so uh.
anybody ever think of the nonzero chance that Jack was Really Fucking Drunk the night he died?
because i do. Often.
(lyrics are from Audit by WeevilDoing, just slightly altered (original lyrics were "They won't breathe anymore."))
i dunno, the end of the song just makes me think of Jack the night he died.
i'm Very Normal about Jack and Dee, if it wasn't obvious
POV: your baby sister's been missing for 2-3 days ever since her birthday party and you've been beating yourself up over it (it's all your fault), so you decide to go to your job as a nightguard that night to check the cameras and see what happened to her (it's all your fault), only to discover that she got Fucking Murdered while you were gone by your employers (it's all your fault), and then you get fucking killed by an animatronic bunny before you can even get justice for her.
(alt: POV you're Jack Kennedy circa Late June, 1973)
(fun fact when i looked it up: Merlot is a kind of wine grape!)

I really want to see Henry's (the little hussar) reaction to the fact, he has the exact same name as a eldritch-tumor hand tentacle attached to a tiny girl. I think he would be a little bit offended.
Tumblr media
I think Henry might be a teeny bit overprotective of his name, yeah. He maybe wouldn't mind if someone named a baby after him, or maaaybe even a beloved pet, but a horrible squirming eldritch flesh whip?? No thank you!!
Fortunately, Andy can help him simmer down if the thought gets him too riled up and his Hussar's hyper-aggressive gene starts to kick in...

still no leaks about max’s plotline in vecna’s mind except for like one scene with her and El in Henry’s memories/visions in the 50’s. I’m still fully convinced about her finding closure with billy’s soul while still there, don’t get me wrong, and I know that that would be a major plot point and that’s why it would be so hard to get leaked, but sometimes it’s just so haaard to remain confident without any real hints or content to speculate on 😭😭

feeling the need to solidify my opinions
#“Henry 1.0 is my favorite character” started as a half joke but. Im sorry i giggle and kick my feet about that snake#THAT ONE SCENE WHERE HE AND LEVI MEET AND LEVI PROMISES TO PROTECT HIM WHAT IF I SOBBED#and whenever he gets mentioned its so !!! :D !!! thats henry one point oah#the gay woe of is thirteen really that pretty and cool or is she just the only woman in this game with a consistent presence#i mean. i like her anyways#obey me#I can say that i actively *like* everyone Raphael and above#and i dont hattteeeee mammon i just. he got more annoying as the game went on for me#asmo i started off feeling eugh about but he defo had a bit of a characterization change i think around season 2 early season 3 of the og#which i think was for the better hes oomf now#and in nb hes. kindof fave#i got emotional#Raphael is just very pleasant but i dont have a lot of solid opinions on him i fear#Lucifer. Lucifer makes me uncomfortable and gives me anxiety#Playing this game. Lucifer gives me a very distinct anxiety I have not felt#since I was a kid playing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and there were sections of the game where you had to sneak past shopkeepe#s and prefects and i was bad at them and whenever i got caught i got really bad anxiety????? and i wished so bad that i could just not brea#rules BC I DIDNT WANT TO BREAK THE RULES BUT THATS THE ONLY WAY TO PROGRESS THE GAME#and when id get caught id dash behind the couch and cover my head until the cutscene of getting caught and losing was over#so um. Lucifer reignites that very specific anxiety#Also he makes me uncomfy. With everyone else you consistently get the option to tell them to fuck off (even asmo when he pushes boundaries)#but suddenly with lucifer there's 3 romantic options and unavoidable romantic scenes. yawn#i could go on about how much i hate his bitch ass but whatever

Falling down the rabbit hole of whether henry creel even really exists, or whether he exists but was framed, because really what we have is a "silly terrible play", els flashbacks which is riddled with questions about their veracity, and an insane asylum inmate who claims to be Victor Creel (and even if he is, his recounting of events is suspect) in a subplot where it was all too easy for nancy and robin to swindle their way into the Pennhurst basement (and get away?? From what should be a very high security area of the hospital??) while the "inmates -at -an -insane -asylum -participate -in-an-elaborate -ruse -orchestrated -by -the -psychiatrist -to -convince -the -main -character -of -an -elaborate -lie" movie (Shutter Island) is right there on the inspo board with direct parallels.
How do you trick someone very convincingly? You let them think they are outsmarting you instead. Dr. Hatch and his associate Dr. Brenner Brantley would know this, they are academics after all.
Which is super fun to think about it, like why would they want to lead the gang down on a wild goose chase for a demon that victor creel claims killed his family- and the oh so convenient lore dump by vecna in which he repeatedly refers to himself as the demon.

February 2024. Originally entitled HENRY JAMES' DRIVE-AWAY DYKES until the studio objected, this fitfully violent, very silly lesbian road movie plays more like QUENTIN TARANTINO'S DYKES TO WATCH OUT FOR: Two mismatched gay friends, uptight Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan) and oversexed Jamie (Margaret Qualley), decide to drive to Tallahassee via a drive-away car delivery service and end up pursued by a pair of bickering goons (Joey Slotnick and C.J. Wilson) looking to retrieve a mysterious package hidden in the trunk of our heroines' car.
A pet project for director Ethan Coen and his wife Tricia Cooke (who is gay), the film, set in 1999, is basically a droll mashup of low-budget '90s lesbian romcoms (e.g., GO FISH, BAR GIRLS) and the same period's innumerable PULP FICTION imitators, full of absurd bits of business and scene-stealing secondary characters, including Beanie Feldstein as Jamie's hilariously bitter cop ex-GF. Some of its more ridiculous moments feel like trying too hard, but it's largely unburdened by the creeping nihilism that often drags down the Coen Brothers' ostensibly comedic efforts.
Much like costar Margaret Qualley's cartoony Texas accent, it can't be taken seriously, but it's endearing if received in the spirit intended, and there are far worse ways to spend 75 minutes. Coen and Cooke say it's intended as the first in a loose trilogy of lesbian B-movies.

Margaret of Anjou’s visit to Coventry [in 1456], which was part of her dower and that of her son, Edward of Lancaster, was much more elaborate. It essentially reasserted Lancastrian power. The presence of Henry and the infant Edward was recognised in the pageantry. The ceremonial route between the Bablake gate and the commercial centre was short, skirting the area controlled by the cathedral priory, but it made up for its brevity with no fewer than fourteen pageants. Since Coventry had an established cycle of mystery plays, there were presumably enough local resources and experience to mount an impressive display; but one John Wetherby was summoned from Leicester to compose verses and stage the scenes. As at Margaret’s coronation the iconography was elaborate, though it built upon earlier developments.
Starting at Bablake gate, next to the Trinity Guild church of St. Michael, Bablake, the party was welcomed with a Tree of Jesse, set up on the gate itself, with the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah explaining the symbolism. Outside St. Michael’s church the party was greeted by Edward the Confessor and St. John the Evangelist; and proceeding to Smithford Street, they found on the conduit the four Cardinal Virtues—Righteousness (Justice?), Prudence, Temperance, and Fortitude. In Cross Cheaping wine flowed freely, as in London, and angels stood on the cross, censing Margaret as she passed. Beyond the cross was pitched a series of pageants, each displaying one of the Nine Worthies, who offered to serve Margaret. Finally, the queen was shown a pageant of her patron saint, Margaret, slaying the dragon [which 'turned out to be strictly an intercessor on the queen's behalf', as Helen Maurer points out].
The meanings here are complex and have been variously interpreted. An initial reading of the programme found a message of messianic kingship: the Jesse tree equating royal genealogy with that of Christ had been used at the welcome for Henry VI on his return from Paris in 1432. A more recent, feminist view is that the symbolism is essentially Marian, and to be associated with Margaret both as queen and mother of the heir rather than Henry himself. The theme is shared sovereignty, with Margaret equal to her husband and son. Ideal kingship was symbolised by the presence of Edward the Confessor, but Margaret was the person to whom the speeches were specifically addressed and she, not Henry, was seen as the saviour of the house of Lancaster. This reading tips the balance too far the other way: the tableau of Edward the Confessor and St. John was a direct reference to the legend of the Ring and the Pilgrim, one of Henry III’s favourite stories, which was illustrated in Westminster Abbey, several of his houses, and in manuscript. It symbolised royal largesse, and its message at Coventry would certainly have encompassed the reigning king. Again, the presence of allegorical figures, first used for Henry, seems to acknowledge his presence. Yet, while the message of the Coventry pageants was directed at contemporary events it emphasised Margaret’s motherhood and duties as queen; and it was expressed as a traditional spiritual journey from the Old Testament, via the incarnation represented by the cross, to the final triumph over evil, with the help of the Virgin, allegory, and the Worthies. The only true thematic innovation was the commentary by the prophets.
[...] The messages of the pageants firmly reminded the royal women of their place as mothers and mediators, honoured but subordinate. Yet, if passive, these young women were not without significance. It is clear from the pageantry of 1392 and 1426 in London and 1456 in Coventry that when a crisis needed to be resolved, the queen (or regent’s wife) was accorded extra recognition. Her duty as mediator—or the good aspect of a misdirected man—suddenly became more than a pious wish. At Coventry, Margaret of Anjou was even presented as the rock upon which the monarchy rested. [However,] a crisis had to be sensed in order to provoke such emphasis [...]."
-Nicola Coldstream, "Roles of Women in Late Medieval Civic Pageantry", Reassessing the Roles of Women as 'Makers' of Medieval Art and Culture
#historicwomendaily#margaret of anjou#my post#henry vi#yeah I don't necessarily agree with Laynesmith's interpretation (that it was essentially Marian with an emphasis on shared sovereignty)#which she herself says is 'admittedly very speculative'#as this book points out that interpretation tips the balance too far on the other side and has a somewhat selective reading#It's also important to remember that this interpretation was not really reflected across wider Lancastrian propaganda at the time#which isn't really talked about - let alone emphasized - as much by historians but remained focused on the King#For example: look at the pro-Lancastrian poem 'The Ship of State' which hails Henry VI as a 'noble shyp made of good tree'#and emphasizes how he was widely supported and defended by many great Lancastrian lords and the crown prince#but not Margaret who was entirely absent#also look at the book 'Knyghthode and Bataile' (presented to Henry) and Fortescue's various pro-Lancastrian texts in the 1460s#even the recording of that Yorkist trial which was iirc reported in the 1459 attainder#all of these were entirely conventional and highlighted the presence and importance of the King. Margaret was not emphasized.#so either the Lancastrians were impossibly inconsistent about what message they actually wanted to convey about the role of their own queen#or the Coventry pageants were not actually meant to emphasize Margaret in the lieu of Laynesmith's interpretation#and would not have been viewed in such a manner by contemporaries#I think we should also keep in mind that we don't really know what Henry VI's condition was like at the time of MoA's entry to Coventry#we know he had been injured in St. Albans and had only just recovered from his second illness#this is especially important to consider since we know he had also arrived at Coventry before Margaret but much more discreetly#and was not welcomed by any pageants that we know of. This is VERY unusual and can be best explained if we consider the fact that he#may have simply not been in the right state (be it physical or state of mind) for it at the time#in which case the pageants for Margaret should be viewed as more of a improvisation/cover-up/temporary measure to bolster prestige#or Henry may have deliberately taken a more discreet role to emphasize the position of his heir - especially important after the long wait#imo I think Kipling's interpretation (ie: that they addressed Margaret but really referenced the prince & heir) makes a lot more sense:#'Coventry [...] regarded Margaret's entry as a kind of triumph-by-proxy: the Queen entered the city but Coventry received its Prince'#though I think he tends to view Margaret as more of a cipher (and has a very questionable view of Henry VI) which I also don't agree with.#The pageants very much DID focus on and reference her but they most prominently emphasized her 'motherhood and duties as queen'#ie: I think Kipling and Laynesmith tip too far on opposite sides and I think this interpretation takes the most realistic middle ground

The virulence of the disease affected all levels of Henry's army, from the rank-and-file to its top commanders. Clarence himself fell ill and departed Harfleur sometime before 12 October, as he was in Calais on this date where he stayed only briefly to deliver the heavy artillery used during the siege. The speed of the duke's recovery on his return to England is difficult to gauge as the records are quiet about his activities. He appears to have swiftly resumed his seat at the Privy Council, but it is not clear whether he attended the Parliament that met at Westminster in November 1415, which began on 4 November, while Henry was overseas. By the summer of 1416, he was fit again and met Emperor Sigismund of the Holy Roman Empire at Dartmouth in June and was appointed Steward of England around the same time. The retinue that Clarence left behind in France numbered 742 of his original 980 men, six knights, 151 men-at-arms and 585 archers, according to the post-campaign account information we have...

#random thoughts#fnaf#rotating him in my mind like an orb or perhapps a microwavable tv dinner#love the idea of a character who for some reason has him in their house and does regular maintenance on him#someone who worked for fazbear fright and fucking. stole him#au where the place wasn't burned down and actually opened and some kid started working there and fucking took his ass#springtrap in my head is like. mostly an animal. running on instinct and ancient programming. only rarely lucid#the kid who took him oh my god. what if someone who was the sibling of one of the five missing kids stole him#and like. they know he's the man behind the slaughter and can remember him from when he was alive#and they take him and keep him running as like a form of torture. because fazbear fright was gonna be shut down and the animatronic#was gonna be destroyed or smth and they were like 'no you son of a bitch not yet'#and they can sometimes see the ghosts of the children and employees who died and henry. but like they're not done#they cant let go. not yet.#cant let him go to the beyond because that would be too merciful for a son of a bitch like him#but springtrap cant really understand whats happening and mostly just sees Some Guy keeping him running so most of his feelings#are positive#when he's semi lucid he tries to kill them#when he recognizes them from before he kind of shuts down#the range is 'friend!!!' to 'i am going to fucking murder you' to 'how did you do in pe today'#like this guy mostly isn't william afton. idk who he is but he isn't him most of the time#i imagine the springtrap suit is a unique model so its hard to get replacement parts for him so most of him is custom at this point#idk what they do with the bones. probably leave them alone for the most part out of fear of him passing on if they got rid of them#he smells like dirt and mildew and restroom deoderizer probably#i imagine their thoughts on him are 'i recognize this mostly isnt the man who killed my sibling so i dont want him to suffer'#'but also i cant handle the idea of even a little of the man who killed my sibling being able to stop suffering'#like this is william's idea of hell. complete depersonalization#they make his stay tolerable. decent maintenance. idk what kind of enrichment he needs#being kept in a basement away from regular social interaction is probably hell for any children's animatronic#so he loves when they come down for maintenance. probably rarely at first and then more frequently as they adjust themself to his presence#idk how he feels about maintenance. probably very used to the feeling of having a dude inside of him lmaooo

Had circumstances been just a little different, Anne Boleyn might still have lived. Had she produced a son, Jane would have been a passing distraction, Anne's enemies would have been silenced, and her fiery character might again have seemed, at least at times, beguiling to Henry. During the course of their brief marriage, which lasted just over three years, there had been many fluctuations. After the final miscarriage, Anne fought back, saying she had been frightened by Henry's accident, but also broken-hearted at his paying attention to another woman. This kind of criticism was not something Henry was prepared to tolerate in a wife; one of Katherine's strengths, as she herself acknowledged, was that she had never shown any sign of animosity or distress in response to the king's infidelities. Henry and Anne's relationship had been a genuine love-match, however, and the volatility which helped bring about the extraordinary events of the break with Rome remained a part of their relationship ever after.
Henry VIII, Lucy Wooding
#'never' is doing a lot of heavy lifting/ obfuscating here lol#(it's traditionally thought that she never had harsh words about bessie blount-- and indeed there's no record of this--#although elizabeth blount's primary biographer has said that she had no court presence after the birth of henry fitzroy suggests a frosty#dynamic... just about the elevation of fitzroy#however there's the hastings drama)#also 'her enemies would have been silenced' is overly simplistic#unpopular queens having sons might have reduced overt hostility#but it didn't annihilate it. more realistically might have 'bridled' her enemies#and yet i still find this excerpt compelling so . here we are#lucy wooding#last part of sentence 2 tho...eminently plausible#prior to this storms always melted into sunshine . stormclouds gathered on the horizon and storms began again. then repeat.#and as reviled as the assertion 'genuine love-match' has been as of late. there is evidence which supports it .#would jane have been a passing distraction? again we don't know. their periods of 'royal mistress' (although there needs to be a better ter#maybe...object of king's affections?) are different in that there is only record of anne's in hindsight via cavendish etc#and also in their actions. in 1526 there was no royal watcher that believed the withdrawal of one of the queen's ladies was significant#in 1536 there was one who believed jane's meetings with henry were highly significant and they proved to be...#altho as wooding underlines here they proved to be mainly due to circumstance#it's not to say there weren't discussions behind closed doors of anne becoming queen among the boleyns circa 1526. but they were not known#and wouldn't have been guessed due to lack of precedent
