The Ultimate Adventure Awaits: Conquer Middle-earth with The Lord of the Rings Strategy Board Game
Are you ready to don your cloak, grab your sword, and journey into Middle-earth? The Lord of the Rings Strategy Board Game by Fantasy Flight Games brings the epic tales of Frodo, Gandalf, and Aragorn right to your tabletop. Perfect for 1-5 players aged 14 and up, this cooperative adventure is your ticket to a 60+ minute deep dive into Tolkien’s legendary world. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or new to the realm of strategic board games, this adventure promises excitement, camaraderie, and maybe a little second breakfast.
But what makes this game worth embarking on an epic quest? Let’s explore.
Why ChooseThe Lord of the Rings Strategy Board Game**?**
1. Cooperative Gameplay – It’s Not All About You, Frodo
Unlike competitive games where alliances crumble faster than Isildur’s resolve at Mount Doom, this board game is about teamwork. Each player takes on the role of a member of the Fellowship, working together to thwart Sauron’s evil plans. If you think you can be the lone wolf like Aragorn, think again—this is Middle-earth, not the Wild West.
Cooperative gameplay means that Gandalf’s wisdom, Legolas’ accuracy, and Sam’s unwavering loyalty can combine to overcome the darkest challenges. Miscommunication, however, might leave you feeling like Pippin in Moria (hint: don’t touch the skeletons).
2. Faithful to Tolkien’s World
This game doesn’t just slap the name The Lord of the Rings on a board and call it a day. No, sir! Fantasy Flight Games poured love and detail into every aspect. Fans will appreciate the intricate illustrations of locations like Rivendell and Mordor, as well as the faithful character abilities that make you feel like you’re truly part of the Fellowship.
For example, Frodo’s strengths include resilience, while Gandalf wields his immense wisdom (and beard) to guide the team. Just don’t expect Boromir to resist the allure of the Ring—some things never change.
3. Perfect Balance of Strategy and Luck
This isn’t Monopoly. (Although, wouldn’t Hobbiton real estate be adorable?) To succeed in The Lord of the Rings Strategy Board Game, you’ll need brains, brawn, and a bit of luck. The game features a unique system where players must carefully manage resources and make pivotal decisions, often under pressure.
The random element comes from card draws and dice rolls, keeping gameplay fresh and unpredictable. Will Gandalf save the day with a clutch spell, or will a bad roll send the Fellowship spiraling into chaos? Only time will tell.
How to Play Without Feeling Like Gollum Lost in a Maze
At first glance, the board may look like Saruman’s to-do list, but fear not! The mechanics are simple enough for newcomers, while still offering depth for experienced players.
Setup: Choose your character and arrange the board, complete with locations, event cards, and Sauron’s looming presence.
The Journey Begins: Travel through Middle-earth, facing challenges, battling enemies like orcs, and resisting the temptation of the One Ring.
The Ring’s Burden: Manage corruption levels—too much greed, and you’re toast (or worse, Gollum).
Victory Conditions: Either destroy the Ring in Mount Doom and claim victory, or watch Sauron laugh maniacally as darkness takes over.
Pro Tip: Don’t let the Ring-bearer (probably Frodo) wander off alone. It never ends well.
What Makes This Game Stand Out?
1. Solo Mode: Be Your Own Fellowship
If your friends are busy binge-watching The Rings of Power, fear not. This game’s solo mode lets you control multiple characters, guiding them through challenges as if you’re directing your own epic movie.
Playing solo is surprisingly fun and immersive, offering a way to enjoy your own epic adventure even if the rest of your Fellowship is on a break.
2. Replayability – Endless Adventures Await
No two games are the same. With multiple characters, randomized events, battles, and a variety of paths to victory, The Lord of the Rings Strategy Board Game ensures hours of entertainment. It’s like rereading Tolkien’s books but with plot twists you didn’t see coming.
3. Gorgeous Components
Let’s talk about aesthetics. From the finely detailed miniatures to the vibrant game board, every piece feels like a work of art. You’ll almost want to frame the components instead of playing with them. (But seriously, play the game—it’s worth it.)
Who Will Love This Game?
1. Tolkien Fans
Are you the kind of person who can quote The Silmarillion in your sleep? Do you cry every time you hear “The Breaking of the Fellowship”? This game is your dream come true.
2. Strategy Enthusiasts
If you love flexing your brainpower and outwitting the odds, the strategic depth of this game will have you hooked.
3. Family and Friends
Looking for a way to bond with your Fellowship of the (living room) Ring? This game is a fantastic option for family game nights or a gathering of nerdy friends.
Tips for First-Time Players
Understand Your Role: Each character has unique abilities. Use them wisely, or risk becoming the weak link (ahem, Pippin).
Don’t Underestimate Sauron: The Dark Lord doesn’t take coffee breaks. Plan ahead to counter his every move.
Stay Corruption-Free: Keep an eye on the corruption tracker. Nobody wants to become Gollum—except Gollum.
Communicate: This is a team game. Share strategies and don’t hog resources. (We’re looking at you, Boromir.)
FAQs AboutThe Lord of the Rings Strategy Board Game

Why This Game Is a Must-Have
Whether you’re a die-hard Tolkien fan or someone who just loves a good board game, The Lord of the Rings Strategy Board Game delivers on every front with its immersive campaign mode. It combines rich storytelling, strategic gameplay, and stunning components into an unforgettable experience.
Plus, where else can you face off against Sauron with a gang of friends (or solo, if you’re brave)? This game isn’t just an adventure; it’s a celebration of the heroes and one of the greatest fantasy stories ever told.
Conclusion: The Road Goes Ever On and On
In a world where countless board games fight for your attention, The Lord of the Rings Strategy Board Game stands out like a beacon of light in the dark land of Mordor. It’s cooperative, strategic, and brimming with Tolkien goodness.
So, grab your Fellowship, roll the dice, and remember: not all who wander are lost—some are just figuring out how to defeat Sauron. Adventure awaits!

Fantasy Guide to Royal and Noble Marriages
Marriage is an important part of the life of both royal and nobles in any setting, either historical fiction or fantasy. Marriages are not only life long commitments but they are business and protection deals by families. These are strategies, not relationships. So how can we write them?
Why make a Marriage?
Marriage is at its heart, the seal on an agreement. Two families may come to an agreement to share resources, connections and support one another. For a noble family, it could be about elevation. For example, if the daughter of an Earl marries a Duke, her siblings can now make higher marriages and her family would be more important thanks to this link. It could even be about money. In the late Victorian - Early Edwardian period, many impoverished English peers married wealthy American women for their fortunes. In exchange, the women became titled aristocrats. Royal marriages are made for more universal perks. A royal marriage can change the political layout of the world, it could isolate a kingdom or be the starting gun or a war or end a years long conflict. For example, Kingdom A might be being threatened by Kingdom B. Kingdom C has a powerful military. Kingdom A might offer up a marriage deal to Kingdom C, with the caveat that C protect A from B. C would obligated to act if A gets attacked by B, since A is now an ally. A marriage cements the deal as it creates family ties, which is seen as a sort of permanent stamp on negotiations. After all, would you screw over family?
Marriages of Choice vs Arranged Marriages
Marriages can either be made on behalf of a royal/noble or made by themselves. An heir might be more restricted in this case whilst a younger children have a little more leeway especially if they are part of a large family.
Marriages are not always arranged. But that doesn't mean there aren't restrictions. Any royal or noble will have a list of certain attributes their spouse must have or certain attributes they cannot have. Marriages of choice have to be approved by parents (and the crown if you are a high ranking noble) and if you are royal, sometimes by the government itself.
Arranged marriages are agreements between two families. They might want each other's protection, support or they might simply want to do business together such as opening trade corridors or lifting embargoes on certain items. Arranged marriages are usually made on behalf of both spouses and they are expected to agree to the match for the sake of their family or country.
Screwing over the Deal
Making a marriage doesn't mean that the deal will last forever. Alliances change and circumstances shift. Whilst everyone may be all friendly during negotiations and for some time after, politics is the aim of the game. Treaties can be broken, war can break out and marriages can become unpopular choices. If a country has welcomed a bride/groom one day and then their country becomes the enemy, the bride/groom could become an enemy as well and face isolation and disrespect from the public - even their new family. However they are expected to be loyal to their new family and country, even over their own family and kingdom. These marriages have no promise of happiness. They are a job, a duty to ensure the family is taken care of and securing their futures.
Timeline of a Royal Marriage between Two Royal Families
Offer: The suggestion is made.
Negotiations: The discussion through ambassadors of what a marriage might entails, what each side is willing to provide or what they demand of the marriage. This can take weeks, months even years before a marriage is agreed.
Betrothal: Marriage is approved, treaty signed and the couple is engaged. Betrothals can last from anything from a few weeks to years
Wedding: If one spouse has to travel to their new home, they will travel to their new home and meet their new court, new family and their spouse. Once they arrive, the wedding will take place in a matter of days.
Married Life
These marriages are public, so it is expected for the couple to at least act civil. If they do not like one another or can't stand the sight of another or they just don't love each other, is irrelevant to society and their expectations. They are expected to attend certain events together, sire children and do their duty. There's no rules saying they must live together, so many lived separate lives. The higher ranking spouse is expected to provide their spouse with an allowance and a staff. For international marriages, spouses are not permitted to hire a large party of their own attendants even if they accompany them to their new country. They may keep one or two for company but a newly minted royal should not be waited on by foreign servants, they are a royal of their new kingdom now.
What makes a "good" marriage?
As mentioned above, marriages and relationships are expected to fall into certain perameters. Any spouse - chosen or assigned - should meet certain standards such as be of appropriate rank, follow societal norms and even sometimes be of the same religion. Marriages to anybody who falls out of these standards can be seen as a devasting move - the marriage of Edward IV is still remarked on as a contributing factor to the end of the Plantagenet dynasty. Making the wrong choice of spouse in society's eyes can lead to gossip, being shunned, being disrespected and even barred from succeeding to your birthright. Unequal marriages or morganatic marriages, can even bar children from succession, disallow the couple from attending events together and deny the spouse the style they ought to be entitled to - the marriage of Archduke Franz Ferdinand is a good example to study. A good marriage is seen as one that adheres to all the expectations of society - even if it is an unhappy one.

Dying thinking about rhys literally pining and hardcore simping for reader, literally showering reader in praise, flattery and gifts because he no longer gives a damn about hiding his feelings, almost proposing to reader whenever he can and reader's just. completely clueless about it 💀 and she thinks it's just rhys being friendly. Poor man would be absolutely devastated when he goes one day "[name] i'm in love with you" and she just goes "me too, i love all my friends!"
Subtle
Summary - Rhys is ready to lay it all onto the table when he gets home from his time in captivity. He just hopes you're as ready as he is.
Warnings - fighting, drinking, inner circle board game night, implied smut
A/N - Cassian would absolutely dominate Risk. I almost felt guilty using it as my inspiration for the game night piece. This was fun to write. Definitely going to have to do some more in terms of family game night with the Inner Circle and my readers/ocs
Ps - gif is how I imagine Cassian and Azriel.
He promised himself when he came home from the mountain, he would court you. Truly court you. Gifts, dates, everything.
The bond had snapped for him a few years before Amarantha took them all hostage, but you had just recently been saved from a temple, and he wanted to give you time to heal before he advanced.
In the time you two spent together, he discovered you enjoyed similar things. During your time at the temple, you had begun to study the stars, the solar system, theories on the galaxy. He used that to his advantage, claiming he just wanted to meet with someone who shared his passion and hobby.
You were welcomed into the Inner Circle as his head scholar within a year. There wasn't a single thing in that library you could not transcribe or find, and it proved to be quite helpful for the Shadowsinger and his studies of old court alliances and traditions and for Cassian as he began to study ancient warfare.
You all sat at your first family dinner in 50 years, enjoying the free flowing wine, the light conversation. You were watching Rhys subtly, and he you. After dessert, he stood, walking over to you and offering you his hand before leaving to his office with you.
"About fucking time," Cassian mumbled under his breath, and the table nodded.
Rhysand sat you down in his office. "I missed you," he said gently. "I missed my time alone with you. Forgive me for pulling you away from our friends."
You shook your head, a smile settling on your face. "There's nothing to forgive. What did you want to talk about?"
It was too soon for him to say what he wanted, too soon to be this forward, so he decided to gently introduce you to his affections. "It doesn't matter what we talk about, y/n. I just want to be around you."
Over the next month, he took his time with you. He showered you with gifts ranging from jewelry to new books on the stars, to clothing. His touches when you two were alone became more intimate and lingering.
You wrote it off as him introducing himself to touch with someone he trusted again, not believing Rhysand, the most attractive male fae in existence, would ever want you or find you beautiful.
He began dropping all subtleties two months into his new behavior. In front of the Inner Circle, an arm would go behind your shoulders. He'd play with your hair. He'd rest a hand on your knee or lower thigh.
For tonight's family game night, you were in charge of picking the board game, and Rhys stood behind you as you looked over the countless shelves. "Azriel is off tomorrow," you recounted softly. "Amren is actually interested in playing." He watched your delicate finger move over to more complicated games. "But if I pick something too difficult Mor and Cassian will leave." Rhys admired you in affectionate silence still. "And you and I will bicker no matter what we play because," you turned him, one of the Inner Circles absolute favorite battle mapping and strategy games in hand. You deepened your voice, raising a perfect brow at him. "My name is Rhysand, I am the most intelligent high lord, and I can never be wrong."
He smirked, almost truly purring like a pleased cat, as he replied. "Well, if you believe so, darling, and I believe so, it must be true." You could help but giggle, holding the game out to him. "We haven't played this in years, y/n."
They had purchased it to teach you battle planning and rationing, not realizing it would soon become a game that your teams 3 would enjoy so much and become so passionate about that arguments would ensue over who was the most capable.
You were always teamed with Cassian and Amren. Your two friends took you under their wings, for Cassian quite literally, and would use the game and your turns as education moments.
"Amren said if I picked well enough, she'd stay and play." You smiled up at him. "Maybe you could switch her and Mor so she isn't dealing with such a handicap?"
Rhys made a face of confusion at you. "You are not a handicap, darling," he tilted your face up to his with two fingers under your chin. "I never want to hear those words fall from your mouth again. Now, to the game room."
The two of you went up the stairs, several bottles of alcohol and the board game in hand, and the room went silence when they saw that familiar painted terrain box.
Cassian was the first to jump up, immediately clearing more space on the table. "I'm fucking you up this time, Az."
The shadowsinger shook his head, rearranging the chairs and staring his brother down. "Over my dead body, Cassian."
Amren immediately took her spot, one one that'd normally be on your right, and Cassian the one on the left. The two of them patted the chair eagerly staring at you despite knowing they were about to lose.
Azriel and Rhys were making eye contact. A smile ghosting the face of the shadowsinger. Rhys began slowly, setting the bottles down. "I was thinking we could change the teams a little. Mor with you two, and y/n with Azriel and I."
Cassian covered a laugh with a cough and Amren's face turned into that of a feral cat. Mor also wore a shameless smirk as she took your seat.
Azriel ushered you to the table, setting you in the middle chair. He was near your ear and said softly. "Just follow our lead, study what we're doing, and remember all the books we read, okay? You will do fine." Rhysand and him sat next to you.
This was not a fair team. You had expected him to switch Amren and Mor, leaving still fairly even odds, but now Cassian's side was stacked.
The commander of the Illyrian and Night Court's army who mapped battles out for fun.
An ancient being who studied bloodshed and battles for fun, openly commenting on where armies and nations mess up.
And Mor. Mor who lead battalions as a female. Mor who was Rhysand's last resort.
You bit your lip, immediately feeling insecure. Stop it, Rhysand said gently into your head. We have an advantage here, remember?
You kept a neutral face, feeling something being built into your mind. This is cheating, Azriel's deep voice then said. We should do this to beat Cassian more often. You heard soft flows of whispers in your mind, almost causing you to drop the calm face. You get used to them, the two males said together. They're very, very helpful. Rhysand purred.
You leaned back taking a deep breath and studying the map of the eastern and western contenants and countries. "Y/n," Cassian said per tradition and rules, "you go first as the most traveled fae."
Take the western isles, Azriel said. Steal where Cassian trained you to go and throw him off. It is exactly where you should start to win, you just typically make small enough errors we could pull everything apart. You took the legion figures in your hand. "I only know one start for this game, Cass." The general's face fell as you placed your allotted start pieces.
"You-" His jaw tightened. "I see how this is going to be."
You heard that whisper as Mor began. Night Court. It was ghostly and snake like, predicting her move exactly. Made mistake. No air legions.
A hand found yours under the table, lacing your fingers into calloused longer ones. "Shall we begin?"
The game turned into what it traditionally turns into quickly. Azriel and Cassian were stood, noses touching as they talked shit about each other battle planning.
Your team had managed to take 80% of the board through methods you weren't proud of. Amren and Mor were also quietly arguing, the blonde accusing the ancient being of purposely sabotaging them when it was Mor who made the initial mistake that had handicapped them the rest of the game.
Rhysand's hand had moved from holding yours to your mid thigh, tracing small circles into the skin as you two drank wine and watched the fighting with matching cat like grins. He inclined his head to the balcony and you two stood to walk outside as Cassian threw a last straw insult Azriel's way, resulting in the traditional fist fight that came with this game.
You and Rhysand leaned against the balcony, looking up at the twinkling stars. He had closed the link the three of you were sharing, allowing you to focus on just him. "I can see why Azriel struggles with headaches now," you confessed. "I can't imagine constantly hearing that input of information."
Rhys nodded. "I block it for him when he sleeps. Unless it's urgent. Then I allow them to communicate."
"That makes sense."
Comfortable silence fell between you two. At least silence until Rhys accidentally blurted out the words he'd wanted to for years now. "I love you."
"I love you too, Rhysand." You leaned into his arm and watched as his head fell in defeat.
"No, y/n Darling. I don't think you understood that."
You blinked at his slightly panicked and desperate face. "Rhys, I love all of you, you're my friends and family."
Rhys shut his eyes, turning you so you two were looking at each other face to face, heart to heart. His two large hands came to your cheeks, cupping yout face as a serious expression fell over his. "Darling, I'm in love with you. I have been for a very very long time." Your mouth parted slightly, breath stilling as you blinked at him.
It all made sense now. The countless gifts. The "dates". The moments spent completely alone where he'd have his hands on you.
"Rhysand," you watched him nod, taking your silence as rejection. "No." You pulled him back to you, "I. I love you too."
His eyes searched your face as he searched your mind. "You thought?" You nodded, not needing him to finish questioning your insecurities. "Oh darling." You felt something pull in your ribcage, eyes growing wide as you stared at him. Tears began to form in both of your eyes as he moved to hold you close again. "I could never and would never do that to you, y/n. I have loved you since the time you helped me adjust my Starmap. Our time apart just helped make it more apparent."
He crashed his lips on yours in a hard passionate kiss. Snaking his arms around your waist as yours went to his shoulders, pulling him closer.
It was fire.
It was the richest of wines you'd ever had.
The coolest water in the desert.
Kissing Rhysand wasn't just an action. It was an experience. You almost melted into his body, allowing him to hold you as closely as possible.
You two finally pulled apart, his forehead finding yours instantly as you both smiled and laughed softly.
"HAND OVER MY FUCKING MONEY AZRIEL!" You both jumped at the loud boom of Cassian's voice.
"It's midnight," a cool reply came. You both moved inside just in time to hear Azriel's explanation. "It's a new month now, Cassian. You said two months. I said three. How about you hand over MY MONEY?"
Rhysand made an appalled face, his jaw dropping. "You two placed a bet on this?"
Amren rolled her eyes as Mor was growling and handing over three jewelry boxes. "We all did. Thank you, girl. It was a pleasure doing business with you. Shadowsinger, we make a wonderful team."
Azriel sat with his hand out, sipping his whiskey casually as Cassian groaned and counted out pieces of gold. "Yes we do, little fire drake, yes we do."
Rhys rolled his eyes, pulling you by your hand to the stairs. "Goodnight," he called over his shoulder. A chorus of Goodnights came in reply before arguing ensued again.
Rhysand led you to his room, opening the door and leading inside of the luxurious chamber by the small of your back. He pulled you to his bed, laying you back on it gently as he began to kiss you again. Relax, darling. I only want a few kisses.
It was much, much more than just a few kisses.

The rink is where I feel most alive. The smooth glide of my skates over the ice, the echo of the puck against the boards, the camaraderie of my teammates—hockey is more than a game to me, it’s a way of life. Playing for the University of Michigan has always been a dream, and now, here I am, living it.
I'm the twin sister of Ethan Edwards. Yes, that Ethan Edwards who's a standout player on the University of Michigan hockey team, right alongside Mark Estapa. Growing up, Ethan and I were inseparable. Hockey was our mutual love, and even though we both made it to the university level, we ended up on different teams. Ethan plays as a defenseman, known for his strength and reliability, while I'm a forward, valued for my speed and strategy.
Mark Estapa, on the other hand, is a force to be reckoned with on the ice. As a forward like me, he's got an uncanny ability to read the game, find the gaps in the defense, and score those crucial goals. He’s a great player, and over the seasons, I’ve come to respect and admire his skills.
Our growing friendship, however, didn’t happen overnight. Our two teams would occasionally practice together, and it was during these joint sessions that I began to notice Mark's friendly and approachable nature. We'd find ourselves paired up during drills or chatting during water breaks.

One afternoon, after a particularly intense drill, Mark and I found ourselves catching our breaths on the bench.
“You handled that drill pretty well, Y/N,” Mark said, flashing me a genuine smile.
“Thanks, Mark. You weren’t too bad yourself,” I replied, matching his smile.
From there, our conversations became longer and more meaningful. One day, as we were stretching before practice, Mark turned to me with a curious expression.
“So, Y/N, what made you choose Michigan?” he asked, genuinely interested.
“I guess it was a combination of things,” I answered, thinking back to my decision. “The coaching staff here is amazing, and the program has a great reputation. Plus, Ethan being here didn’t hurt,” I added with a playful grin.
Mark chuckled. “I can see how having family around could be a bonus. I chose Michigan for similar reasons. The team has a great dynamic, and the opportunities for growth both as a player and a student are unparalleled.”
Our conversations didn’t just revolve around hockey; we talked about our classes, our hobbies, and our future goals. It was during one of these post-practice chats that Mark opened up about his passion for photography.
“I’ve always loved taking pictures,” he said, showing me some of his recent shots on his phone. “It’s a way for me to capture moments and emotions that words can’t express.”
I was impressed by his talent and passion. “These are amazing, Mark. You have a real eye for it.”
“Thanks, Y/N. It’s something I hope to pursue more seriously someday,” he said, looking slightly vulnerable.
As the weeks went by, our conversations continued to deepen. We shared stories about our families, our dreams, and even our fears. I found myself looking forward to our practice sessions not just for the hockey but also for the chance to spend time with Mark.
We'd find ourselves paired up during drills or chatting during water breaks. Our teammates began to notice our growing camaraderie, and it wasn’t uncommon for them to tease us about our lengthy conversations.
“You two should just start your own podcast,” Ethan joked one day as he walked past us, a smirk on his face.
Despite the teasing, Mark and I cherished our newfound friendship. Our long conversations became the highlight of my day, and I found myself feeling more and more connected to him with each passing practice.
But lately, it's not just his skills on the ice that have caught my attention.

Growing up as a twin, you learn the importance of boundaries and loyalty early on. Ethan and I shared everything—our toys, our secrets, our dreams. So, when I first joined the University of Michigan's hockey team and met Mark Estapa, I couldn’t help but notice his attractiveness. His tall stature, his athletic build, and that charming smile were hard to ignore. But I also knew he was Ethan’s teammate, and I would never do anything to jeopardize their friendship or our family bond.
During those early practices, I would steal glances at Mark, admiring his skill and athleticism on the ice. His dedication and passion for the game were evident, and it only added to his appeal. But each time I felt a flutter in my stomach or caught myself daydreaming about him, I would quickly push those feelings aside, reminding myself of the unspoken rule: teammates were off-limits.
As our teams began to practice together more frequently, Mark and I started to interact more. Our conversations were light-hearted and filled with laughter, but underneath it all, there was an undeniable chemistry brewing. I found myself drawn to him not just because of his looks but also because of his personality. He was kind, thoughtful, and genuinely interested in getting to know me.
Despite these growing feelings, I was determined to keep my emotions in check. I didn’t want to create any awkwardness or tension within the team, especially given Ethan’s close friendship with Mark.

MARKS POV
The first time Y/n Edwards and I really talked was during one of those joint practices. I remember it well— we were both catching our breath on the bench after a tough drill. I looked over at Y/N, and for the first time, I saw her not just as Ethan's twin sister but as Y/N Edwards, an incredible player in her own right.
“You handled that drill pretty well, Y/N,” I said, trying to initiate a conversation.
“Thanks, Mark. You weren’t too bad yourself,” she replied, matching my smile.
In that moment, something shifted. Her smile, her wit, the way she talked about hockey—it all captivated me. She was more than just a talented player; she was someone I wanted to get to know on a deeper level.
As we continued to chat, our conversation flowed effortlessly. We talked about everything from our reasons for choosing Michigan to our hobbies and interests outside of hockey. I was genuinely intrigued by her, and I found myself wanting to learn more about the person behind the player.
But as much as I was drawn to Y/N, I knew I had to tread carefully. She was Ethan's sister, and I didn't want to overstep any boundaries or make things awkward within the team. So, I tried to keep our interactions friendly and professional, all while secretly hoping for more.
The more I got to know Y/N, the harder it became to ignore my growing feelings for her. Her intelligence, her passion for the game, and her kind-hearted nature made her irresistibly attractive to me. But I also knew that acting on my feelings could complicate things, and I didn't want to risk our friendship or create any tension within the team.
Despite these internal struggles, I couldn’t deny the connection I felt with Y/N. Each conversation, each laugh, each shared moment only deepened my admiration and affection for her. I found myself looking forward to our joint practices not just for the hockey but also for the chance to spend time with her.
But lately, it's not just her skills on the ice that have caught my attention.
During one of our joint practices, we were waiting for our turn to jump onto the ice for the next drill. Y/N was leaning against the boards, lacing up her skates, completely engrossed in her task. The afternoon light streamed through the windows, casting a soft glow on her face and highlighting the golden undertones in her hair.
I couldn’t help but stare.
She looked up, catching my gaze, and flashed me a quick smile before returning her attention to her skates. My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly looked away, hoping she hadn’t noticed my lingering gaze.
As we took to the ice for the next drill, I found myself distracted, my thoughts consumed by the simple beauty of that moment. Y/N's natural grace and poise, even in something as mundane as lacing up her skates, left me in awe.
I knew I was treading dangerous waters, but in that moment, I couldn’t help but be captivated by her beauty. She was more than just a talented hockey player; she was a vision of grace and elegance that I found myself drawn to, unable to look away.

Y/N POV
I found myself watching Mark as he talked with some of our teammates. He was animated, gesturing with his hands and laughing at something someone had said. I was captivated by his energy and charisma, and for a moment, I lost myself in the way the sunlight caught the highlights in his hair and how his eyes sparkled with genuine happiness.
Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t notice Ethan approaching until he spoke, "You okay, Y/N? You seem a little distracted."
Startled, I quickly looked away from Mark, feeling my cheeks flush with embarrassment. "Oh, uh, yeah, I'm fine," I stammered, trying to regain my composure.
Ethan gave me a knowing smile but didn’t press further. "Alright, just making sure," he said, patting me gently on the shoulder before heading back to the group.
Relieved that Ethan hadn’t called me out on my obvious distraction, I took a deep breath and refocused on the practice. But even as I skated back onto the ice, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Mark was becoming more than just a teammate to me.
One evening, I found myself at Ethan's apartment, sprawled out on the couch with a bowl of popcorn, ready to watch a movie. Ethan had invited some of his teammates over, including Mark, to hang out and relax after a grueling week of practice and games.
As I settled into the comfortable cushions, Mark walked into the living room, a casual smile on his face. He greeted everyone warmly before taking a seat on the armchair opposite the couch. Our eyes met briefly, and a subtle spark passed between us, but we both quickly looked away, maintaining a friendly distance in front of Ethan and the others.
As the movie started to play, Ethan and Mark began discussing a recent game, dissecting plays and strategies with the kind of intensity only true hockey enthusiasts possess. I found myself drawn into the conversation, sharing my own insights and opinions, and soon, Mark and I were engaged in our own little world of hockey talk, much to Ethan's amusement.
Throughout the evening, I couldn't help but steal glances at Mark, admiring his easygoing demeanor and genuine interest in our conversation. His laughter was infectious, and I found myself laughing along with him, feeling a connection that went beyond our shared love for hockey.
Despite the casual setting and the presence of Ethan and the others, I couldn’t ignore the growing tension between Mark and me. It was as if we were dancing around the undeniable chemistry that had been building between us, both of us aware of the line we were toeing but unwilling to cross it in front of Ethan and our teammates.
As the evening wore on and the movie came to an end, I realized that my feelings for Mark were becoming harder to ignore. He wasn’t just a teammate or Ethan’s friend; he was someone I genuinely cared about, and I found myself looking forward to the next opportunity to spend time with him, both on and off the ice.

ETHANS POV
As the evening unfolded in my apartment, I couldn't help but notice the subtle undercurrents between Mark and Y/N. From my vantage point on the couch, I could see the way they exchanged glances when they thought no one was looking, the way their laughter seemed to echo in sync, and the way they both seemed completely engrossed in their own world, despite the presence of our teammates.
At first, I brushed it off as mere camaraderie—after all, they were both passionate about hockey and had been spending a lot of time together at practices. But as the evening wore on, I began to sense something more—a genuine connection that went beyond friendship.
I glanced over at Y/N, who was laughing at something Mark had said, her eyes sparkling with amusement. Then I looked at Mark, who was smiling back at her, his eyes softening in a way I had never seen before. It was clear that there was something special between them, something that went beyond the confines of the rink and our hockey team.
As Y/N and Mark continued to talk and laugh together, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of surprise and curiosity. Mark was my teammate and one of my closest friends, and Y/N was my twin sister. The thought of them being more than just friends was unexpected, but the more I observed their interactions, the more it made sense.
Despite my initial reservations, I couldn’t deny the connection between them. They seemed to complement each other in a way that was both surprising and endearing. And as much as it caught me off guard, I found myself rooting for them, hoping that they would find happiness together, both on and off the ice.
As the evening came to an end and everyone started to say their goodbyes, I pulled Mark aside for a moment.
"Hey, man, are you and Y/N...you know, getting close?" I asked cautiously, not wanting to overstep any boundaries.
Mark looked slightly taken aback but then smiled, his eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief. "Yeah, I think we are," he said, his voice filled with genuine warmth.
I smiled back, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "Well, as long as you're both happy, that's all that matters," I replied,
"Are you serious? I was so scared to tell you that I think I'm falling for her." Mark said.
I looked at Mark, surprised by his honesty and vulnerability. His eyes were sincere, and I could see the genuine concern in them.
"Mark, I had no idea you felt that way," I said, feeling a pang of guilt for not noticing his hesitation earlier. "I'm sorry for putting you on the spot like that."
Mark chuckled softly, his smile returning but with a slightly nervous edge. "It's okay, Ethan. I guess I've just been overthinking things. I really care about Y/N, and I didn't want to mess things up, especially since we're teammates and she's your sister."
I clapped Mark on the shoulder, offering him a reassuring smile. "Look, as surprising as it is, I'm actually really happy for you two. Y/N deserves someone who genuinely cares about her, and I can see that you do. Just promise me you'll treat her right, okay?"
Mark nodded earnestly, his eyes shining with gratitude. "I promise, Ethan. She means a lot to me, and I want to do right by her."
Feeling reassured, I smiled at Mark, grateful for his honesty and commitment to Y/N. "Alright then, I trust you. Just remember, if you ever hurt her, you'll have to answer to me," I added with a playful smirk.
Mark laughed, his tension finally breaking. "Understood, Captain."
As we rejoined the others to say our final goodbyes, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief and excitement. Despite the unexpected turn of events, I was genuinely happy for Y/N and Mark. They had found something special in each other, and as their friend and brother, I couldn't wait to see where their relationship would lead.

Y/N POV
As we approached my apartment building, the atmosphere between Mark and me had shifted subtly. There was a sense of anticipation, a tangible connection that seemed to be growing stronger with each step we took. When we reached the entrance, Mark stopped and turned to face me, his blue eyes reflecting a mix of excitement and vulnerability.
"Y/N, there's something I need to tell you," he began, his voice slightly shaky but sincere. "Earlier, when Ethan asked me if we were getting close, I told him that I think I'm falling for you."
I felt my heart leap in my chest, a rush of emotions surging through me. His confession was unexpected but also exhilarating, confirming the feelings I had been trying to suppress.
"Mark," I started, searching for the right words to express the whirlwind of emotions I was feeling. "I'm not sure how to say this, but... I think I'm falling for you too."
The moment the words left my lips, a wide smile spread across Mark's face, his eyes lighting up with joy and relief.
"Really?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine happiness.
I nodded, feeling a warm blush spread across my cheeks. "Yes, really. I've been trying to ignore my feelings, but the truth is, I've been falling for you too, Mark."
A look of pure happiness washed over Mark's face, and without hesitation, he stepped closer, cupping my face gently with his hands. "Y/N, I'm so glad to hear that," he whispered, his eyes locked onto mine.
Feeling emboldened by our mutual confession, I leaned in, closing the distance between us, and our lips met in a soft, sweet kiss. It was a simple yet powerful affirmation of the connection we had both been feeling but had been too afraid to acknowledge until now.
As we pulled apart, our faces flushed and smiles wide, Mark looked into my eyes, his gaze filled with warmth and affection.
"Do you wanna come in?" I asked, my voice soft and inviting, the words coming out almost on their own accord, as if guided by the newfound courage and excitement that bubbled within me.
Mark's eyes sparkled with anticipation, but he hesitated for a moment, wanting to be respectful of the situation and our budding relationship.
"Are you sure?" he asked gently, his voice tinged with a mix of excitement and caution.
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. "Yes, I'm sure," I replied, feeling a surge of boldness.
A broad smile spread across Mark's face, his eyes shining with happiness and relief. "I'd love to," he said, his voice filled with genuine warmth and excitement.
Taking my hand in his, Mark followed me into the building, our fingers intertwined as we headed up to my apartment.

I've been dreaming of the Ambitious King.
Long live the King of Beasts, he who shines like the sun.
He stands atop the heap, clutching victory in his righteous grasp.
How does a moment last forever? How can a story never die?
"We've come to finals of the interschool Spelldrive tournament!" an announcer blares over the stadium. "It's down to the wire, and this will be the deciding round. With the scores tied, it’s anyone’s game!!"
A crowd chomps at the bit for a winner to emerge from the field. They lean forward in their seats, clutch onto hope, stuff their mouths with soda and popcorn. This is a show, the players, actors, and they, the audience.
Leona allows himself a smirk.
We’ll give’m a real show-stopper then. That crown is as good as mine.
“What should our strategy be this time, sir?” a teammate—a Scarabia student—asks.
They’re huddled shoulder to shoulder, one student contributed from each of the seven dorms. Their allegiances may lie in different places, but they all wear the same black and violet uniform. They are all Night Ravens, united under one banner: his.
“We’ll finish this in a single decisive blow,” Leona replies, snapping his goggles on. “I’ll take the disc and score us that final point. The rest of you, cover me.”
“You heard the boss,” the smallest player says. It’s Epel, tiny but feisty—a contrast to his big blue eyes and lilac waves of hair. “Don’t worry, Leona-senpai! I’ll fer sure keep’m offa yer tail!”
“That’s what I like to hear, kid.” He raises his head and calls, “Clear!”
And with that, the players peel off into their own positions. The other team, uniforms pristine white and hemmed in royal blue, are patiently waiting. Leona pulls up to the center of the field where the referee and the opposing team’s leader await.
When he looks, he falters.
It’s a face that is frighteningly similar to his own.
The same skin color, the same lion ears and tail, the same construction of the features—if not softer and more friendly. His mane is held up in a ponytail, bright red-orange that fades into a golden yellow. He’s younger than he should be, missing the slight creases under his warm brown eyes and the lines that flank his perpetually smiling mouth.
“Falena?”
An icy dread creeps up from his core. The world around him seems to slow and come to a complete stop.
But this can’t be. My brother is 10 years older than me. He’s no longer a student, he’s—
“Leona? Is something wrong?” Falena inquires with a cheeky grin. “Don’t tell me you’re afraid to play against family.”
Annoyance flares up.
Brother or not, Leona detests that smile. The smile of a man that has robbed him of everything.
“Dream on,” he snarls back. “I’m overthrowing Royal Sword Academy and you."
The referee lets the disc drop and blows into his whistle. “BEGIN!!”
"Aaand it's started!!" the announcer declares.
His body instinctively kicks into action. He swipes the frisbee, keeping it afloat in a blaze of blood-red magic.
RSA swarm him, magical pens at the ready.
“Protect him…!” he hears Epel shout. “Protect the king!!”
His team charges, each of them trained on their target. NRC and RSA, reflecting the other, copying movements as they bound around on the field, seeking an opening or cutting it off.
Leona blows into enemy territory, furiously racing to the goal post.
"What's this?! It looks like Captain Kingscholar of the NRC team has already devised a plan to secure victory. They're closing off any aid the RSA team can offer to each other!"
The crowd revs up like an engine coming alive, a slumbering city waking. Blood thunders in his ears, louder than his audience.
"Oh no, you don't!"
"Oooh, and here comes the upset! It's Captain Kingscholar of the RSA team, come to interfere with the game plan!"
Leona swerves, and a stream of fire narrowly misses him. "Tsk!"
A flash of red and gold, and there's his brother at his side. "Sorry, Leona. It won't be that easy."
"Knock it off. I don't have time to play games with you!"
He dives, trying to shake Falena off--but he pursues, relentless in the chase. They thread each other in the sky, trading spells.
Explosions of heat and color. Shards of ice whizzing by, columns of water. Windy whips lashing at them. All-consuming light and darkness.
"This is amazing, folks! We are witnessing a brotherly quarrel the likes of which we've never seen before... Look at that dazzling display of flight technique and spellwork!"
Through it all, Falena' laughs.
So carefree, so cheerful. A knife twists in his chest, and the anger spikes again.
"That's enough...! I'm ending this," Leona snarls.
His magic collects in a single sphere. There is no body to it, no true shape--only a contained vortex of gales. They violently churn in an endless cycle, raising a storm in a jar.
He sends it hurtling at Falena, who moves to conjure a barrier--
Too late.
The ball expands, releasing its energy in one deep sigh. The audience is slammed back into their seats, the players blown to the ground or sent crashing into the bounds of the stadium. They're dazed, confused, scrambling to rebalance on their brooms.
The path, he sees, is clear.
Now...!
He lets out a monstrous roar and blitzes for the goal post. The disc sparkles, charging with power for the final blow as he gallops toward his prize.
The announcer hops back on, his voice frantic. "Could this be it?! Can Captain Kingscholar of the NRC team reclaim the throne from his brother?!"
Noise builds around him. RSA players calling out to each other, NRC players changing his name, the crowd cheering.
It's now or never.
Leona spikes the disc with all his might. It clears, the winning shot like a shooting star. Some golden object encapsulated in a blaze of fire.
The adrenaline in his blood sings with triumph. His tired muscles, his heavy breathing, the sweat upon his brow--badges of honor.
The sound intensifies, joined by whistles and shrieks. Feet stomping, hands clapping. People standing and hugging their neighbors. (Leona thinks he sees Crowley among them, sobbing uncontrollably.)
“This is incredible, ladies and gentlemen! You’ve just witnessed history being made today…! Night Raven College has snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, breaking Royal Sword Academy’s 99 year win streak!!"
Leona slowly returns to the ground, dismounting from his broom. He lands beside Falena, who is sprawled on his back and wearing the usual smile.
"Ahahah, looks like you beat me," he says casually.
"... Fool. Get up, you look ridiculous. The acting king of the Sunset Savanna shouldn't be rolling around in the dirt." Leona looks away, but awkwardly offers a hand.
Falena laughs and accepts it, hauling himself up. "That's a funny joke. When did you get a sense of humor?"
He scowled. "I didn't make one."
"Are you still half asleep? And you still beat me?" Falena punches him in the bicep. "That's my talented big bro."
"What... big bro?"
There it is again: something cold and sinister inside of him. The lingering feeling of wrongness.
Suddenly, the adrenaline in him turns toxic, and he feels as though his flesh and bones are burning. Leona seizes Falena by the shoulders and shakes him.
"What the hell is going on... Gaaah!"
A metallic screech fills the stadium. Pain blossoms in his ears, and Leona rushes to guard them, hands dropping away from Falena.
"Oops, sorry! Technical difficulties, folks!" the announcer apologizes. "It looks like even our equipment wants to cheer for Captain Kingscholar of the NRC team, the star player of today! Let's give him a round of applause!!"
They explode with excitement, Clapping and calling out louder than he can think.
"What a judicious young man!"
"He controls such powerful magic with ease...!"
He stands there, shocked, at the rain of adoration. Him, recognized? Respected, saluted, and seen as the wonder he is? Him?
His mind clouds.
What is this,,,?
"Leona-saaaan!!"
He turns, finding his teammates jogging over, Epel at the head. There are members of his own dorm with them--Ruggie, Jack.
"We gotcha now, Leona-san! Thought you could get away without getting your fur ruffled, huh?" Ruggie snickers, then gives Jack a thumbs-up. "Alright, fellas. You know what to do!"
"Hah, the hell is this? I didn't ask for a surprise after working my tail off."
"Sorry, Leona-senpai! Ruggie-senpai's orders!" Jack says very seriously. "This is the only way to give you a proper sendoff for carrying us to victory... You've earned it!"
"1, 2, 3...!"
"Wha...?!"
Leona is seized and hoisted into the air with a collective whoop of excitement. Tossed up, up, up. The stadium lights glaring, sound blasting.
He returns back to his peer's arms, and heaved up again. Down and up, down and up. Each pass makes him more nauseous, blinded and deafened by the dizzying joy.
"Long live the king! Long live the king!!" they chant.
The king... me? Leona fights against it, pushing as hard as he can.
But his body is tired, his mental capacities drained, his emotions worn. The situation, too sweet, too cloying.
I'm... the king... I won. This is my prize.
He closes his eyes and lets himself fall.
This time, for good.
When he opens them again, he swears he sees a dark figure flying high above the stadium. Not on a broom, but floating of his own accord. A pair of horns protrudes him his head, and he glimpses a pair of ghostly white hands clapping.
One additional spectator with glowing green eyes.
"Congratulations, Kingscholar."

Gale Talks: Why Nemona is the perfect Rival introduced in Pokemon games.
Now I understand that this is Quite a bold claim, with the plethora of rival characters. Many are strongly for Blue, Silver as having a Jerk Rival is what inspires you to get better. Others say there are stronger Rivals Like Barry. Some even go hard for Wally because having a character arc about overcoming Growth and getting a dope theme song is what its all about.
Nemona is your Guide
Nemona is your Friend.
You are her goal as much as she is your goal
I will address these below
Nemona is your guide
Nemona is the first student you meet at the start of the Game. She is also the first trainer you actually battle. Immediately helping you get the hang of the battle system for those starting out. And like with the recent trend of Rivals she picks the starter that is weak to yours. Which considering her experience makes sense as she already COMPLETED her quest of being the best. This is her being there to check your progress.
Nemona is also the one that helps give you the free study goal of taking down all the gyms. She is the guide to your gym challenge.
She even introduces how Terastallization works. She is the one that gives you all the mechanics you need to know how to battle.
What is also amazing is during the time you are taking on Gyms, she will meet up with you and battle you, being at a comparable strength to you. But unlike with other Rival fights, Nemona's wins or loses will still progress the story. And its only after the first time you play that you realize, Nemona was showing MASSIVE restraint in all her battles with you. She is training you to be stronger. Her strategies evolve with each battle, and she has great coverage.
_____________________________________________________________
Nemona is your Friend
A lot of recent pokemon games try to have your pokemon rival be your friend. And it is with mixed degrees of success (I think they only started getting it right by the time Hop was introduced.) Nemona's friendship is more interesting because YOU choose how it develops. Outside of battles, there are events with Nemona that let you get to know her better, you find out how she was sickly in the past (like wally) and while she wasnt ignored by her parents, they were busy. And people saw all of her success as coming from her family's wealth, which was not the case. And she loves battles but most people are afraid of her because she takes them to seriously. She is in a way, the perfect blend of all previous rivals/ rival friends. (Except Gen 6 but thats because those werent friend rivals, they were caricatures)
She is a champion level (Blue)
People are intimidated and scared of her (Silver)
She was sickly but got better and gained confidence (Wally)
Works to help you through the world (Brandon/May)
Loves Pokemon battles and is super hyper. (Barry)
Is analytical and smart with pokemon battles (Cheran)
Friendly and has some deep seated insecurity (Bianca)
tries to be very chilled out but is passionate (Hau)
Has a burning desire to prove themselves (Hop)
Nemona has a blend of all these qualities and it works perfectly.
Nemona is purposefully holding back as to not scare you away. And its why when you finally become Champion rank she is even happier than you. Because now, SHE can go all out, and there is someone that can handle it. She finally has a friend that can handle all of her, and thats worth its weight in gold.
______________________________________________________________
You are her goal just as much as she is your goal
Nemona was someone that went through her journey. She won, she was a champion and not even Geeta could compete with her. And that skill made her intimidating to ANYONE she battled. And even when she would hold back she would trounce them. (even in the DLC, she is the strongest trainer outside of you and the Blueberry academy head).
She was bored. she had 'completed' her journey and was never challenged. So when you show up, she sees something within you. The spark of a champion. She could tell that you were the one that could challenge her. So she found a new purpose. Getting an all out battle with you. You would be her goal, and she would help you progress in anyway possible. She would check your strength, show strategies.
And while this was happening, you start to realize that she is your final opponent. She is your endgame. That's where things get interesting. As you find out how strong Nemona really is. With the reactions of the trainers that see her, and even after you beat Geeta (the champion) even she admits how she is no match for Nemona. Which really puts into perspective how this journey played out. Nemona was your first battle and she would be your most crucial battle.
Its just a great full circle moment that gives the trainer a welcome feeling. And at the end, when you finally beat her at full strength, she is excited. She isnt angry or sad. She is just so happy to give everything she has. You were able to give her what she was desperate for. And without realizing it, she became your goal. And she is finally, truly your rival.
_____________________________________________________________
Nemona has so much going for her character, and it adds so much to the rivalry you develop.
It is nice that GameFreak managed the perfect blend for this rival.

Trent Alexander - Arnold (Liverpool) - Interrupted
Day 20 of Christmas
Prompt: joint Christmas
25 Days Of Christmas
This was a mistake. All of this was a mistake. You see, back in November, Y/n and Trent made the decision to bring their families together for Christmas, so they didn't have to slend it apart again. They were determined to make this day special, despite the usual chaos that family gatherings entailed. On Christmas Eve, they spent the entire day shopping for food, ensuring they had enough to go around. They were tight for time, and Trent being stopped for photos every few minutes was nlt helping. He was a whirlwind of activity, dashing from shop to shop, while Y/n tried to keep up, chuckling at his determination. "We need to make this perfect." He insisted, grinning as he stacked boxes of decorations. "My mum will have a fit if she thinks we haven’t cleaned the house properly."
"Don’t worry, we’ll get it done." Y/n reassured him, grabbing some bread and chucking it into the trolley. "I don't know how you can be so calm. Your parents are coming over too, you know." Y/n nodded. "Believe me, I know. They've been keeping me updated on their whereabouts."
When they returned home, the couple dove into cleaning the house, ensuring everything was perfect. "Why dpes it feel like we’re hosting a royal banquet?" Y/n laughed as she hoovered the carpets. Trent smirked, wiping a bit of sweat from his brow. "Because we basically are! I mean, who else can say they’re hosting two families at once?"
Just as they were finishing up, the doorbell rang, much earlier than expected. They exchanged wide-eyed glances, and Y/n hurried to open the door. "Great! Just what we needed." Trent muttered, giving her a playful nudge as they rushed to the door. He opened it to reveal his mum, beaming brightly, followed closely by Y/n's parents. "Surprise!" Trent’s mum exclaimed, stepping inside with a basket of baked goods. "I brought some celebrtions, and quality streets and-"
"Thanks, Mum!" Trent replied, his face warming with embarrassment as he took in the state of their home. Y/n looked behind them to see her parents carrying a suitcase. Oh boy, this was a bad idea. As the families poured in, the house quickly filled with chaos. It was much louder than they liked, usually not shouting or speaking over one another, but what did they expect when they invited both families?
"Oh, I can help with the cleaning." Trent's mother offered, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. Y/n chuckled, watching Trent’s face turn crimson. “Uh, no, really! We’ve got it covered—” But before she could finish her sentence, Y/N’s mum chimed in. "Oh, I’ll help too! You two have been working all day, no doubt." Y/n's mum said taking the hoover from her. "Perfect." Trent said, trying to hide his mortification as the two mothers started organizing the kitchen.
The house soon transformed into a hub of activity. The kitchen was crowded with women chopping vegetables and preparing dishes, while children dashed around excitedly, their laughter ringing through the air. In the games room, the men gathered around the pool table, discussing strategy as they prepared for a few friendly games. As Y/n stirred a pot on the stove, Trent's mum leaned in, a nostalgic smile on her face. "Did I ever tell you about the time Trent used to want to lick the spoon after we baked Christmas biscuits?"
Y/n raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "No, you haven’t. Tell me more!" Y/n chuckled. "Every single time we baked, he’d try to sneak a lick! Such a cheeky boy." She laughed, shaking her head. Just then, the kitchen door swung open, and Trent stepped in, sporting a new scarlet jumper. With a mischievous grin, he grabbed the empty spoon from the bowl and scooped any excess icing left. "This is the best part." He declared, popping the spoon into his mouth. "Nothing goes to waste in this house." He said, smirking at Y/n and his mother. Y/n chuckled, shaking her head at him. "You never change, do you?"
Later that evening, after dinner had settled and the laughter of family echoed throughout the house, Y/n finally had a moment to breathe. She excused herself and headed to their en-suite bathroom for a long-awaited shower. As the warm water cascaded over her, she felt the tension of the day melt away. Just as she was settling into relaxation, Trent stepped in, a playful glint in his eyes. "Mind if I join?"
"Not at all." She replied, smiling as she turned to face him. "I’ll wash your hair for you. Just relax." He said, gently taking the shampoo from her hand. As he massaged her scalp, she closed her eyes, enjoying the sensation. "Thank you." She whispered, leaning back against him. It felt so nice to finally be alone after the whirlwind of the day. "Anything for you." He murmured back, and their lips met softly, the kiss quickly growing deeper and more passionate. The moment grew more intimate, steam filling the bathroom as their kisses deepened, hearts racing. Trent's hands roamed her body as he nipped and kissed the skin of her neck, quirt moans leaving Y/n's mouth.
Just as they were lost in each other, a knock echoed through the door, breaking the spell. "Trent, where do you keep your towels? I need to shower!" His mum called out, making Trent pull her closer in case she decided to come in. Y/n couldn’t help but burst out laughing, while Trent groaned, burying his face in the crook of her neck. Of all the times. He muttered, shaking his head. "I forgot we’re not quite alone yet." Y/n giggled, trying to stifle her laughter. Trent opened the door slightly. "They’re in the cupboard next to the sink! Just, uh… give me a minute and I'll get you one!"
As his mum left, Y/n leaned against him, both of them chuckling at the sudden intrusion. "Well, that was unexpected." She said, looking up at him with playful eyes. Trent smirked, pulling her in for another quick kiss. "This is why we can’t have nice things!" He chuckled, shaking his head. "I swear, that was the least romantic interruption ever."
"Welcome to family Christmas." Trent groaned, as he pulled away reluctantly to go help his mum. "I guess we’re done for now?" She teased, trying to contain her giggles. "For now." He sighed, clearly reluctant to part from their moment. "Well, there's always next time." Y/n chuckled as she turned the water off. "Yeah, next time I’ll lock the door." He smirked as he hopped out and flinging a towel around him to go help his mother.

coffee at midnight, part 13
John "Soap" MacTavish x f!reader
Military consumes your private time - to the point that you pretty much can't live without it. All of the boys from Task Force 141 are just like brothers, not only best friends – you know that you can trust them with your whole heart.
Somehow, one of them manages to steal it completely, and that's on Johnny MacTavish. Over months, you learn that's harder and harder to ignore that burning feeling in your heart. (3,6k)
READ ON AO3
previous part
His eyes are at yours, when it’s your turn.
Cards have always been the team's favorite, if it came to games; just like the stereotype says, poker, of course. The joy of winning your teammate’s money, the other side's rage quitting in the middle, knowing how deep in shit they are. Something about this type of entertainment keeps them in shape. Distracts, even if it’s for a second, and there’s not a lot to distract them from, as you gave your case to the higher-ups, but they want the bonding time nonetheless.
You don’t like cards; not that you can’t play, you’re just pretty tired of it. Keeping poker face is hard, when you’d rather spend the time alone running (or, preferably, rotting in your bed at the base).
Especially that you don’t just hide cards. You hide the whole situation that happened between you and Soap, you hide how you think of his lips on your pussy, whenever you just look at him. He bites them in a playful manner, like he knows what you have in mind every time you glance at him, and you think of smacking the shit out of him just because of it.
You think you might, when there’s gonna be time for training, and that won’t be that suspicious.
For him, it’s like nothing changed.
You tap your fingers against the table in trance, looking at him up close. He laughs, cracks jokes with the guys. Classic Johnny, when he is around the people that he loves and respects, relaxing after a quite difficult mission. He doesn’t look like he overthinks things, like you do.
It could be always an impression, you’re not sure. Or he doesn’t have anything to overthink, considering that the situation between you two is quite simple.
Tap, tap, tap.
“Check,” you just say, and the game goes on. You don’t have a head in the right spot to raise the stakes, nor to have some insane strategy to bring them down and win. It’s easier to let them play the game they wanted than participate in it.
It’s rather a bloodbath than a friendly competition. Something that gives them satisfaction, bragging rights, when they’re out in the field. No matter if it’s the worst time possible or not, that’s just the way your team is.
Soap loses all of his money first.
His poor choices, money wise, are known to the team, just like complaining about it—because that’s what he does for another ten minutes. Accuses everyone of cheating and teaming up against him, and instead of trying to prove him wrong, boys decide otherwise. They give him reasons why they teamed up (and you know they didn’t, but you’re too tired to say it).
White noise. Calming, making you realize you would never trade this feeling for anything else, no matter how annoying and loud they are.
After some time, it’s actually soothing, surrounded by chaos. Sitting with family.
It takes Johnny fifteen minutes to accept that no one will give him his money back and that, in fact, he just sucks in this game. “You should get better”, Kyle says, at which his friend gives him a deadly look. Annoyance on his face is evident, when he says goodnights to everyone.
And then, there’s you, and his demeanor changes, just a little.
Eyes lit, the corners of his lips go up—not too much, but enough to notice the shift. He leans to you, like he wouldn’t reach otherwise, and kisses the top of your head, murmuring his goodnight. Savoring the moment of his personal weakness, forgetting that everyone sees that. Or, choosing to ignore that, which is possible as well.
“You can join me later,” he whispers.
Tap, tap, tap.
It’s laughable, how a tough and mostly emotionless soldier on the outside (because that’s what Kate taught you, five weeks before you joined a professional army), can go to a puddle quickly, just with a simple sentence.
And what’s even more funny, it’s not the first time Soap did it.
Inside you, there’s a whole palette of emotions, and it takes everything to not let your comrades know about it. You want that side of yourself buried deep. Six feet underground, so you’re the only one that keeps the secrets under a golden key, away from other prying eyes—because you don’t want them to know.
You don’t want them to know about his hurried kisses on the cheek, when you two are alone, like lovers that are afraid someone will catch them, so they’re looking for a safe place. Because it sometimes looks like that, when Johnny pulls you to the most hidden areas, or straight up to the darkest corner of the library. Feigning innocence, when Ghost asks him why you two are so far, saying that “it’s the quietest place”, or that he has a painful migraine, and the light annoys him.
He holds the potential feelings behind, almost on display, but not quite. Not letting people know what exactly is going on between you two is probably the smartest thing.
Or, you should say, Task Force 141. Everyone else seems to know, or they can guess what is going between you two.
Other people in the army, your backup. You can’t talk too much with a man without either Gaz by your side or someone that he knows because he’s here immediately. Curling his arm around your waist, smiling widely, asking whatcha talkin’ bout?, and patiently waiting until the man will leave. “‘Am simply enjoying the conversation,” he says, when you’re asking what exactly he is doing.
It’s irritating at some point. Unbearable, you can’t be without him for one second, and it’s so hard to brush off a feeling how similar it is to being in the big cage. Comfortable enough to fly, but the bird isn’t free anyway.
Controlled freedom.
At the same time, you find the other men's reactions amusing.
Their shoulders immediately tense when he’s around, knowing Soap’s menacing side enough to not fall for a wolfish smile he’s throwing every time. Holding the “fuck off” on their tongues, as it’s not really smart to start provoking him. Because not only he’s gonna fall for it, but they’re gonna have a quick talk with Price—and no one really wants that.
Soap’s mom knows about you and him too.
Or, maybe not about you two in a sense of dating, as it’s not happening (at least you think this way), but how close the two of you are. It’s clear she doesn’t buy the “best friend” talk, but just out of respect to you, she doesn’t comment. The only situation where she did comment, was when Soap lived in your apartment and you needed some help. She said something about Kyle being your best friend too, and how he doesn’t do half of the things Johnny does. “But maybe it’s just the way he is,” she quickly added.
You nodded back then, but you still can’t forget it. Not when he’s even more physical with you than he was before, and her words ring in your head.
He doesn't know what personal space is.
And he doesn’t. The definition of it is unknown to him, touching you coded in his DNA; natural, just like breathing. He controls it, but does it unconsciously too.
You’re pretty sure it works this way. When he mindlessly reads documents, a hand sneaks up on your leg, higher or lower, and then he starts to squeeze the skin, until someone walks in or when you’ll pay attention to it.
In the first case, he’s at his best behavior. Acting innocently like nothing happened, no matter if he looks like a kid that stole the candies that were strictly forbidden.
But in the second scenario, he's gonna either take the hand off, or give you his signature, cocky smile, asking if that bothers you. If he “can’t be himself anymore with you,” and this is probably the most dramatic he usually gets around you.
He always plays, wanting you to participate in whatever he has in mind. It’s your decision if you’ll cut his antics, or you’re gonna play along and make him smile even wider. Pleased; because these days, when he’s more possessive than ever, he loves the feeling of having you under his spell.
And you really don’t know what to do about it. Or, what to think.
You kind of wish that you would have someone to talk about it here. Lament, how hard it is to maintain a professional face when he acts oh-so-unprofessional. Trying to put up a show in front of other soldiers, marking you as his, while you aren’t really anything. Just lost as he is, you two swim in the sea of uncertainty and unspoken words.
In a hope for a boat that will never arrive if one of you won’t push the subject further. But you both know it—and there’s something attractive about being inclusive, so maybe that’s why no one dares to take the right step.
The only person you can talk about the whole situation with is your best friend—but at the same time, not really. Not when you’re on the other side of the world, reception nonexistent, or not when you’re amongst the men that will tell Soap everything they will hear.
Or even if not tell, but they’d for sure tease you for that. Endlessly, making stupid comparisons or jokes, as the humor in this team is sometimes on the children level.
Your head hurts only from thinking of it. It’s hard to imagine how it would hurt in the actual situation.
Tap, tap, tap.
“—probably callin’ his new girlfriend, or somethin’.”
“Who has a girlfriend?” You raise your head, looking at your comrades; a mention of a girlfriend is enough to bring you back from your thoughts. This, and Simon’s amused blink in his eyes alone; like he expected you to have this reaction.
“Soap, who else?” Gaz cocks his eyebrow. “Probably lost in poker just for a few minutes to talk with her.”
“Interesting,” you murmur, trying to not sound pissed, nor look. They’re already looking at you with interest, and you don’t need to show them your feelings.
Especially that you are pissed to the maximum level; maybe it's the side effect of the lack of sleep, general nervousness, or maybe your feelings finally take over your rational thinking. Nonetheless, you feel like you could punch someone.
"Yeah. Told us something about his bonnie back home. Seemed serious, he said that his mom met her," Kyle muses, tilting his head to the side when he looks at you. You don't notice how his eyes dig right into your soul, observing your reaction. Waiting for a moment you’ll slip, and it’s close. He is close to achieving this. "Ain't you supposed to know this?"
You are supposed to know this. This is the problem.
(You think you might faint. Is this so serious?)
There’s an aching feeling in your chest; yet, you try to act indifferent. "Why?"
"No offense," Kyle puts his hands up, like you're gonna punch him in the face right after his comment, "but you know. Girls talk about that stuff with their best friends, so I thought..."
"I prefer to stay out of Soap's love life," you cut him off, before he even thinks of the rest of the sentence. "So maybe that's why I don't know."
It is an offense, having no knowledge of his so-called love life, when you thought that, in fact, you are at some point involved in the center of a love massacre. Being the only girl he let so close, as he doesn’t trust other people with his heart.
The possibility of having someone else here, maybe a tiny, little bit closer to him, makes you want to vomit.
And an even worse feeling would be knowing that your best friend that you’re in love with, is not single anymore. You could no longer be here; right next to him, like a work wife. There would be respecting boundaries, personal space. Not only for him, but mostly for the comfort of his potential partner; so she’d know you’re not a threat, or a homewrecker.
(You think you are in love with him from the beginning. Confusing love, where you mistake it for being grateful for having a friend like him. Love where he’s so close to you, so you don’t really think it’s weird to sleep in the same bed, when one of you has nightmares, or you feel bad about what happened during the day. Where it’s not weird to spend every minute of your leave with him, and it’s not weird to see him naked a couple of times. It’s not weird, it’s not—)
"Mm. Makes sense." Kyle nods. "Captain, didn't he say that he's gonna invite the lucky girl to the wedding in Scotland?"
“He said. Now, back to the game. We don’t have time for your chit-chats.”
Wedding.
Wedding?
Wedding in Scotland. He never ever mentioned the fact that someone from his family is getting married, didn’t mention he would want to participate in the wedding—and annoyingly so, you know everyone in his family, so it’s not like “you don’t know them, so probably it would be better to go alone”. Soap is anything but that.
God, you’d ask. You’d ask if they’re pulling your leg, if he really has someone, and he wants her at his family celebration instead of you. Instead of someone he knows well, instead of someone—
—you’re overreacting, and they moved on. That’s why you can’t ask them without raising suspicion that you, in fact, do care why he hid someone. Tucked her deep and decided to tell everyone on the team but you.
It sits on your nerves, gnaws at your already sensitive feelings; the possibility of missed chapter. With torn pages, you can’t do anything—stalking isn’t an option, you don’t even know her name. Soap’s phone is too primitive to hack, and he’ll know if you were here or not, so your cover would be blown. The indifference you desperately want to show.
You leave after the second round of poker, saying goodnight to the boys, too tired to continue the game, but not too tired to do a quick run around the base. Just to ease your mind, just to tire yourself before going to sleep, so you won't overthink every single interaction with Johnny that you had the past couple of months.
Because the desperation in you to find that mysterious girl is high. You don’t know if she’s real or not, but you want to know. If he doesn’t trust you enough to tell you something about his “girlfriend”, then what’s the point?
You still think about it the next day, when you enter the training area, Gaz as your opponent. There’s nothing at first between you two; a small talk, how did the two of you sleep, how is his mom. Classics, just to break the first ice and start fighting.
You expect silence from him in the later stages, but surprisingly so, it’s not like that at all.
He says something about going on dates, and how he just can’t really find someone, because the girl he has an eye on doesn’t speak to him. You respond that he should think about Tinder, maybe this will for him, even if it doesn’t work for you.
And then, he strikes with the idea. Maybe I should set you up, followed by some kicks from Kyle. A lot of good mates don't have a girlfriend, he declares, and you want to roll your eyes, but you restrain yourself from it.
“You can set me up with anyone, I don’t mind,” you huff, dodging the punch from Gaz. You throw some yourself; and it’s bad to think that you wish you could hit Soap right now, not him.
Set you up. It sounds ridiculous, it is ridiculous to even think of replacing John in that way, where your eyes wouldn’t be at Johnny, but at someone else.
(In some way, you’d love that. To throw it away, to be infatuated with some random guy, not your best friend, not your comrade. Multiple consequences, and you have no idea if he feels something beyond physical connection. Something deeper, something that keeps him up at night.
If the answer would be yes, maybe he could be the one.
Could he?)
“Oh, anyone?” He raises his eyebrows. He pins you down to the mat, keeping the grip, giving absolutely no care in the world when you try to kick him off several times.
You shouldn’t probably underestimate his power like you did a few seconds ago, ignoring him getting closer, in order to have a small talk with him about nothing. The ‘good guy’ facade ends in the open battle and training. “I can set you up with myself first, so I’ll know what to expect. Y’know, science.”
“Oh, how nice!” You roll your eyes, almost laughing at the irony of this situation; it’s hard to estimate if he’s trying to rile you up, or if he’s just playing around. Close proximity doesn’t help in it, as you feel how hot and how tired he is—you too. Not only in a physical sense. “Fuck all of the men in the military, honestly. If I’m going out with someone, he has to be an outsider that doesn’t know what ranks we have.”
“Ouch? Hit the spot?” Kyle snickers, and it’s the reason for another kick in his stomach; which he didn’t see coming, considering that he lets go of you.
He doesn’t seem to mind the hit so much, and it’s so odd. So odd for a warrior like him that his motto is “an eye for an eye”, no matter the situation—he doesn’t try to hit you back.
There’s nothing.
Nothing, until—
”As far as I know, you haven’t dated anyone from the military. Or, I missed somethin’?”
It feels like a hit.
The taunting in his voice makes everything so obvious. Challenging look in the eye, a glint of satisfaction when he sees you struggling.
You should’ve known, you think. It’s Garrick, after all.
Hawk. Observing the situation from the sidelines, calmly waiting, not saying anything until it’s convenient for him, or when he’s tired of guessing. Ready to strike when it’s time and there’s no wondering why he’s leading most of the stealth missions when Ghost and Price are somewhere else.
“Wise owl,” you always laugh, poking him in an amused manner, more admiring than anything. He’s a lotus in this group of chaotic people.
And now, that lotus wants another reaction, and you’re closer than ever to give it to him. “You didn’t. It’s just my observation,” comes out instead.
He laughs, patting you on the shoulder. “It’s not like you can draw a conclusion from Soap’s hookups. That’s a bit different, mate.”
You grit your teeth.
You shouldn’t feel mad at a simple mention of other girls. Soap doesn’t belong to you, he’s not one and only to you, you’re not exclusive and you never were. What’s even more ironic in the situation, you competed with him who is gonna get more numbers from strangers in the bar, being completely clueless about your feelings—and you wish you had the same mindset now.
Because now, the thought of him with someone else… you see red, nothing else. You wish it would be easy to tell Johnny what you feel without the possibility of being rejected in the process.
(Not to mention, you could be transferred to another unit. Feelings for another comrade? A possible threat to every mission you two would be assigned.)
And you could be just a hookup. Sometimes it happens, even with best friends, and then they live like nothing happened. Convenient enough.
Could you live like that?
Simple answer is, no. You couldn’t.
There’s this weird longing in you—you don’t know it well. There were never so many emotions in you towards another person, not even towards your first boyfriend.
They scream all at once, and you beg to be picked first among the bouquet of other girls in the world. His world, full of options, where you don’t even know if you are involved or not in that sense.
God, and you know how he loves to chase someone. To give them attention, to play with their emotions, making them miserable because he’s so good at first glance. You observed it many times, laughed at those girls, knowing they’re walking to the lion’s cave without thinking of it. You should be smarter.
Should be. Love doesn’t choose, sadly.
The fact is, you’re getting softer and softer. Making more room for someone that owns your heart already, afraid what it is gonna be—if anything.
You clear your throat, trying to come back to reality. “Whatever. Let’s focus on the training.”
“Stroke a nerve here?”
Of course he did. You’re smarter than admitting it to him straight up, though.
“For fuck’s sake, Garrick, this isn’t a secret for a secret—”
“—you know, you can tell me anything—”
“—are you trainin’ or yapping without a reason?”
This voice. Deep, a little pissed off, authoritative that makes you and Gaz straighten up.
You couldn’t really ask for more right now, so you’re grateful Ghost broke the absurd talk. “We leave in twenty minutes. Price said somethin’ about bonding exercise.”
Bonding. Ironic.
“Noted,” you just say, going straight to your room, so you will have the time to change into something nicer.
Just in case, right?

Can you do a Genshin Impact story where Childe invited Lyney to show magic tricks to Teucer? Teucer meets Scaramouche, Arlechinno, Lyney, Lynette, Freminet, then invites them to a game of hockey. Because Scaramouche is there, Nahida and Raiden Shogun try to join. It's with Childe's family and the others.
Or if you don't know anything about hockey, what if Wanderer, Venti, Kazuha, Heizou, and Xiao played a board game where they play as the countries of Teyvet.
The Game of Teyvat
Summary: In a lighthearted evening at Mondstadt's tavern, Traveler and their friends—Wanderer, Venti, Kazuha, Heizou, and Xiao—gather around a board game simulating the nations of Teyvet. Each player takes control of a region, vying for territories and resources while forming alliances and plotting betrayals. As strategies unfold, personalities clash in friendly competition, and camaraderie grows in the humorous rivalry.

The quiet hum of Mondstadt’s breeze swept through the open window of the tavern, carrying with it the scent of fresh grass and distant pines. A peculiar scene unfolded within: Wanderer, Venti, Kazuha, Heizou, Xiao, and the Traveler were seated around a low wooden table, stacks of cards, dice, and colorful tokens scattered about in what appeared to be a strategic battle of wits.
"I still don’t understand," Kazuha mused, looking over the board, "how exactly are we supposed to play as the countries of Teyvet? It’s... fascinating, but it’s also a bit complex."
Wanderer, who had been eyeing the pieces suspiciously, grumbled. "Are we really doing this? Playing as the countries? This feels ridiculous."
Venti chuckled, leaning back in his chair with a lazy grin. "Oh, come on, Wanderer! It’s just a little fun! Besides, you get to rule over all of Teyvet! What’s not to like?"
Xiao, seated across from him, said nothing. His arms were crossed tightly, and his expression was unreadable, but the subtle twitch of his fingers betrayed his slight interest.
Heizou, always one to embrace the unusual, leaned forward with a grin. "What’s the matter, Wanderer? Afraid you might lose?"
The Wanderer narrowed his eyes. "You know I don’t lose."
Traveler leaned in, grinning. "Let’s just start the game and see how it goes. It’ll be fun."
Wanderer snorted but said no more. The game in question was a hand-crafted board game based on the various regions of Teyvet, with each player taking control of one of the nations. The goal? To strategically conquer territories, gather resources, and outsmart the other players. It was a game of strategy and diplomacy, with the occasional surprise of a random event card shaking things up.
The board itself was a beautifully detailed map of Teyvet, each nation represented by a brightly colored piece. Venti had, unsurprisingly, claimed Mondstadt. Kazuha took Inazuma, his home nation, with a serene but determined expression. Heizou chose Sumeru, his playful nature fitting the rich intellectual landscape. Xiao had Liyue, always silent and mysterious, while Wanderer took Fontaine, an outsider to most but always intrigued by the notion of law and order. And of course, you—the Traveler—had to represent the entirety of Teyvet, which, to your amusement, meant controlling all the countries in a way, albeit with a heavier burden.
Heizou clapped his hands to begin the game. "Let the conquest of Teyvet begin!"
Turn 1
Wanderer immediately rolled the dice, frowning as it landed on a 2. "A 2? That’s the worst possible start."
"Would you like to trade your luck with me?" Venti teased, a spark of mischief in his eyes. "I could give you a better fortune. I’m rather good at guiding winds, after all."
Wanderer shot him a withering look. "I’m fine."
Kazuha, rolling his dice, looked up at the others. "This game might be more like life than we expect. There’s a delicate balance between taking risks and staying cautious."
Heizou leaned back in his chair, placing a hand on his chin. "Indeed. It’s all about finding the right balance of resources. And the alliances we form—or break—could make or break us."
The Traveler smiled, casually sliding a piece forward on the board, managing to claim the first territory of Sumeru. "Looks like I’m off to a good start."
The others groaned. You were known for your strategic mind, and it was clear you weren’t wasting any time.
Venti was next. "I’ll claim Windrise, of course!" he said, flicking his hand dramatically. "I mean, who else could possibly lay claim to such a beautiful place?"
Xiao barely glanced at the board, but his dice roll was precise. "Liyue is mine," he said quietly, though there was an edge of determination in his voice. "No one else has the strength to protect it like I do."
Turn 2
The game progressed, with each player expanding their territories, occasionally negotiating trade deals or forming brief alliances.
Venti and Kazuha were forming an unexpected alliance, agreeing to help each other with resources from Mondstadt and Inazuma in exchange for a share of the spoils.
"I’m not sure this is a good idea," Wanderer muttered, eying the two. "The two of you together are a bit too... idealistic."
Kazuha smiled. "It’s not about ideals, Wanderer. It’s about finding harmony. And besides," he added, pointing at the board, "having a bit of fun."
Wanderer, still skeptical, surveyed the board with a grimace. He rolled his dice—yet again, another 2. "I’m really starting to hate these dice."
Meanwhile, Heizou was scheming. "I think I’ll take a page out of your book, Xiao," he said with a grin. "I’ll focus on accumulating influence rather than brute strength. That’ll make me a formidable opponent when the time comes."
Xiao just gave him a quiet, disinterested look. "Do what you must."
The Traveler continued to hold their lead, collecting both resources and alliances from the different countries. They were the silent, calculating force in the game. Though no one was able to predict your next move, it was clear that no one was underestimating you.
The Final Stretch
As the game neared its climax, tensions began to rise. The alliances that had formed earlier were starting to crumble, and some players began to realize they would have to betray others to win.
Heizou suddenly looked over at you, an almost conspiratorial gleam in his eyes. "You know, Traveler," he began, leaning closer, "I’ve been watching you. You’re very good at this game. But... are you really in control, or is something else guiding your hand?"
You raised an eyebrow, a smile tugging at the corner of your lips. "Let’s just say I have my own way of understanding Teyvet’s intricacies. Every choice matters."
Venti snickered from the other side of the table. "Ah, but that’s what makes this game fun! Who knows what tricks the others might have up their sleeves?"
Kazuha, ever the poet, smiled as he moved his piece. "In the end, it’s not just about winning, but the journey we take to get there."
Xiao didn’t respond, his focus unwavering as he slowly surrounded and cut off territories from both Wanderer and Heizou.
The tension in the air was palpable as everyone took their final turns, negotiating, plotting, and making their final moves. Eventually, it came down to you and one other player. The board was split down the middle, with territories controlled by both the Traveler and their rival.
"Well," Wanderer sighed dramatically, looking over at you. "Looks like you’ve won, haven’t you?"
You glanced at the board and nodded. "It’s been a long game, but yes. I have control of Teyvet."
Venti clapped his hands in mock applause. "And the crown goes to... our ever-calculating Traveler!"
"Well played," Kazuha said, his smile warm. "You truly understood the rhythms of the game."
Xiao, ever the quiet one, gave a rare nod of approval. "You deserved it."
Heizou chuckled. "I have to admit, I underestimated you."
"That’s the game for you," you said with a grin. "Every move is a calculated risk."
As the night ended and the game was packed away, everyone shared stories of their own nations and adventures, discussing what could have been and what might have been had the game been different. Laughter filled the room, and even Wanderer, who had grudgingly admitted his defeat, seemed to enjoy the friendly rivalry.
"This was a good distraction," Xiao muttered, finally unguarded as he took a drink from his cup. "Though, next time, I’ll be the one to win."
Venti grinned, raising a cup in mock salute. "A challenge, Xiao? I’ll be waiting."
As the stars twinkled outside, you couldn't help but smile. Maybe Teyvet would never be as simple as a board game—but for tonight, it had been a game worth playing.
And, perhaps, in the future, the countries of Teyvet would see more than just politics. They’d see the camaraderie born from games, laughter, and shared moments of lighthearted fun.
After all, in this world, even the smallest victories mattered.

meet the bands!-introducing: C✧LESTIA
☆ y/n-the guitarist and founder of the band. Ever since you picked up a used guitar at your local music shop, you haven't been able to stop playing. You're completely self-taught, but you've managed to make it this far with only YouTube tutorials and improv so you must have some talent (of course a certain purple-haired bastard would beg to differ)
✯ lumine-the vocalist and co-founder of C✧LESTIA (not to mention your childhood bestie!). Her and her brother both took singing lessons when they were younger so she was the first (and only) person you went to when you needed a vocalist. She's the big sister of the group, and when she's not rehearsing for a gig or tuning her instrument, you can find her nagging her brother.
𓄼 furina-C✧LESTIA's bassist and former president of the drama club. She's the most recent addition to the band. Furina got into music after losing her passion for acting and she's proven to be an amazing asset to the band, and an amazing friend. Due to her former acting career, she can usually pull some strings to get you guys into certain venues.
❥ kokomi -C✧LESTIA's keyboard player, and proud member of the chess club. Despite her cute and lady-like demeanor, Kokomi adores war-games and anything involving cunning strategy. She joined when you caught her playing piano in the music room alone. Kokomi is also incredibly popular among your peers, so her joining the band immediately gave you guys a surge of popularity.
❋ yoimiya-the drummer and self-proclaimed "comedic relief" of the group. She went to middle school with you and Lumine, so when C✧LESTIA hosted auditions for a drummer, she was quick to try out. Despite having no prior music experience, she's surprisingly good at playing the drums. Her family also owns a fire-work company so she's accustomed to loud bangs and booms.
✧ mona-C✧LESTIA'S amazing manager. She claims that she only sticks around 'cuz you guys feed her, but she actually enjoys the band's company. (She won't admit this but) You guys are the first group that she's truly felt at home with, so she always risks life and limb when it comes to getting you guys gigs (even though she always plays her efforts off).
