TPN Committee: Yeah we’re going to horribly truncate this anime adaption by cutting 50+ chapters, removing so much of the nuance people loved about the original story and make it the greatest disappointment of Winter 2021 after the first season was a critical darling, but as compensation you can have some REN Rights in the form of this album cover that wouldn't be out of place for a shoujo series

#fave spotting #alfred burke #the man who finally died #public eye #frank marker #@thisbluespirit #(i know you like to see his face)#alas he has no closeups #and as mentioned isn't even credited‚ tho his character is called Heinrich in dialogue #actually quite a lot of the cast go uncredited in this‚ even those (like alfie) who have more than one scene and get actual dialogue #just the key players are named in the opening titles #like quite a few other british films of this era this was based on a short tv serial‚ also written by the films writer Lewis Greifer and #produced by ATV in 1959; of that series the only returning cast member was Nigel Green‚ who'd actually played the role Alfie #does here on tv‚ but was promoted to a slightly larger supporting part for the film. according to wiki (ikr‚ but why would they lie..) the #series actually exists in the archives in its entirety! alas.. we'll probably never get to see it‚ particularly now network have gone #speaking of‚ i had actually seen this before some years ago but when the news came thru about network this was one of the things i decided #to try and pick up before the stock is all gone; i was tempted to the blu ray release both for the chance to see Alfie in hd (albeit #briefly) and bc one of the extra features is a fascinating sounding episode of Drama 64 starring Stanley Baker #more on that i suspect when i get round to watching it

Yknow I’m generally someone who could be deemed a outsider because I don’t get involved in a lot of things especially when it comes to unnecessary discourse because even if I have a opinion I usually keep it to myself because for me it’s less worth to get involved in certain debates unless I’m really feeling like choosing violence that day but if there’s one debate where it’ll be two sides fighting and I’m just standing aside like “yep this sure is something” it’s fucking sub v dub debated because I’m the anomaly who watches either like it’s no problem and so many anime fans would find me weird for that- if they didn’t already think it was weird I didn’t care for mainstream stuff.

#meg text #this ain’t even a self conscious thing I was just thinking about it #because i literally swap dub/sub so much with the last show I watched for no reason #I don’t like picking a side in this debate even though sub fans are the more uh- vocal ones #but unless it’s hard or impossible to read captions people should be opened to watch things subbed #because some animes legitimately never get dubbed and this limits yourself from trying stuff #I say I’m more dub leaning though but it legitimately depends on my mood if I watch sub or dub #I originally thought sub was easier for me to watch short stuff and I have to test if I can last watching subs of longer shows #but I remember with fucking kikaider I kept swapping dub and sub like crazy #me: kikaider has a good dub also me: seki as jiro though (<saids as I think Dave was good)#that is my only frame of logic because I can’t use “oh if it’s shorter subs help me more”#bc I watched 01 dub but also more importantly new fucking getter dubbed fine #so much so new ryoma is the only ryoma in my brain I don’t attach hideos too it’s only Lex #I do wanna watch new sub in full one day though but no one somehow uploaded the full subs anywhere??#like when they are there’s a glitch where they aren’t in the center screen and this show on BLU-RAY how the fuck #new dub is good tho but I get it’s awkward to watch bc it’s also so engrained with Japanese culture #”people in a ancient Japan wouldn't sound like this”-my friends watching it again with me

NO SERIOUSLY. I MISS THESE. WHAT THE FUCK. WHERE IS MY SECOND DISK OF SPECIAL FEATURES. MY DIRECTORS COMMENTARY. MY THEATRICAL TRAILERS?

if it weren't for special features on DVDs i *genuinely* would not be on the path I am now. Some Studio Ghibli disks have a special feature called "storyboard mode" where the original animatic of the animation is played instead of the finished movie. That's what inspired me to want to be an animator! That's what lit that fire! Kids today are LOSING that! Give us the DVDs back! Give us back Xtra-Vision and Blockbuster and video rental stores!

And you can't even rely on a streaming service for movies because they can be removed at any time. I have my own collection of DVDs because of this fact. I have films you can't get on streaming over here because of whatever the fuck reasons. I have six disks of tobey's spider-man films; 3 film features, 3 special features. I have A Silent Voice. School of Rock. I have Into The Spider-Verse with a director's commentary. I have the Care Bears movie from 1985! KEEP YOUR MEDIA PHYSICAL. That way it can't be taken away for bullshit reasons.

#i know dvds are still being made and all but its mostly blu-rays and i dont have a blu-ray player #Look. DVDs are being erased. TVs dont have a disc slot. They have fewer hdmi and av points #My new laptop for school doesn't have a disc slot!#If you want to watch a dvd now there are extra steps this is what im saying #you need to buy a cable and buy a dvd player and THEN watch it #before you could stick a disc in damn near anything #and dvds are so much less...personable #they used to be bonus features- games #trailers and blooper reels and interviews and shorts and everything #directors commentaries and deleted scenes too #it used to have its own seperate disc! because it was so much it wouldnt fit alongside the movie on the disc!#now were lucky to get what #maybe the theatrical trailer #or an interview with some actors #the directors commentary is a lot harder to find than it was #and deleted scenes? forget it #i dont think ill ever see a disc with a storyboard feature again either. this is what we mean #theyre still being made sure. but not as mainstream #which makes it less convenient for a lot of people. plus the PRICES. my god #a dvd new is like MINIMUM £10. places like CEX keep a lot of discs behind counter #so you cant check for damage like scratches before buying it #and the rental placed are gone.#we used to bring dvds into school and vote on what one to watch. i dont think that happens anymore #the rise of streaming services has mostly erased the need for physical media #even thiugh the streaming services have far less content than video rentals stores did #and the content gets switched between serviceds regularly #and you need good wifi for it even.#there's no streaming service I can use to watch the step up movies #or to watch like... danny phantom #so dvds and ...*alternative*. streaming sites are where it is for me
