kento isn’t much of a talker.
whenever you come home from work, he’d always be there on the couch, spreading his arms to as a welcoming gesture.
laying on his chest, you then talk about your day, what annoyed you, and the latest gossips in your workplace.
“i just don’t know why would she do that, you know?”
and kento just grumbles, his way of agreeing with you, too focused on looking at your features.
“then, get this! she still took him b—” you cut yourself off, he looks uninterested.
were you talking too much..?
“why’d you stop, sweetheart? continue, what did she do?” kento says, snapping you out of your haze.
“she still took him back! the amount of advice that i gave her, she didn’t even apply any of those!” you huffed in annoyance.
kento hums, “it’s on her if she gets hurt again, sweets.”
“ugh, i don’t care about her anymore.”
kento was still scanning your face, his thumb caressing your cheekbones.
“i missed you, ken.”
“i missed you more, my love.”
you slowly move to kiss him, his hold on you tightening.
“i love you.” he mumbled in between kisses.
“i love you, too, kento.”
he slowly sits up to stand, with you still on his arms.
“don’t drop me, ‘kay?”
he chuckles, you snuggle your head on his neck and gave it little pecks.
“do you ever get tired of me yapping?” you asked him.
“hearing your voice puts me at ease, i find comfort when we’re like this. i love when you talk, sweetheart. i may look uninterested with everything that you talk about but i’m really not, i’m most likely just distracted by your gorgeous face.” kento mutters as he opens the door to your shared bedroom.
“oh my god, kento.”
“yes, love?”
“i need to wife you up.”
“hm, we’re gonna need to plan another wedding then, huh?” he chortles.
kento isn’t much of a talker, but he can be a little chatty when it comes to you.

CHAPTER ONE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the daughter of an affluent man, you were accustomed to being a doll on a shelf. Knowing that every breath you take, every step and everything that you are is being watched. Weighed. Graded. Nothing was your own. Not the clothes upon your body or the hair on your head.
You glanced around you, watching as people bustled about preparing dresses, shoes, undergarments, and jewelry. What a lively room. You're the center of attention, so privileged and pampered. And yet... you are spared little acknowledgment.
“Do show a little more life upon your face, dear.” Verrok, your father, sighed from across the room. His wine glass sloshing dangerously, as it likely was not the first. “You look as though you’re being sent to slaughter."
"Arent I though?" you wondered to yourself
A dry chuckle escaped him as he moved to stand in front of you. Your eyes tracking his every move as he reached a hand out to caress your shoulder. "Such beautiful skin..." he muttered to himself before he once again was swept away by his own voice. Standing still, naked and waiting for the women around you to come with the dress chosen for this evening, you glanced briefly at him as he shouted orders to the staff around him. The women fluttered about, beginning to dress you efficiently in a dusty pink floor length dress with a sheer scarf wraping elegantly around your throat. Like a collar for a slave. A mirthless laugh escaped you unconsciously as your servants laid it expertly.
To be adorned with something of this caliber meant only that vistors would be coming and momentarily you allowed yourself to hope that you would be allowed to eat in the dining hall. Only briefly though, before steeling yourself as your veil was lowered over your head and draped across your face. Simply a piece of light fabric that slipped over your head and wrapped around you delicately leaving only your eyes to be seen.
You couldn’t help but worry your lip between your teeth as a rolling anxiousness settled itself deep in your being. Your father pacing back and forth in his equally ceremonious clothing, the wine glass that had been refilled too many times to count. The maids standing stock still, seeming to hold their breath as they waited to be dismissed. It was all very unsettling.
However, setting your shoulders back and thanking your ladies swiftly, you moved to follow your father - who has again taken to chattering incessantly - out the doors.
The sunset cast an orange glow into the large room, table decked in meats, fruit and vegetables of all kinds. A low growl rolled through your stomach as you thought of possibly eating the food.
There were a dozen people already milling about, idly chatting as they waited. Gazing, admiring the drapes and exquisite details of the paintings, to be sure. Though as per custom your eyes remained trained on the floor, despite how desperately you wanted to see the faces of the beings you heard.
Clearing his throat theatrically, "How wonderful it is for you all to be here!" Virrok loudly adressed the room, widely turning you in all directions to be shown. Your father held onto your arm as he led you on a promenade of the room.
The royals and the rich gathered around tables spoke of your age, weight, countless abilities and talents as if you weren't there. "She does sew exceptionally well..." you were catching snippets of conversation, lost in the whirlwind of turns and introductions. "She is more of a figure to look at, young sir. Not one for conversation, i'm afraid." An incredulous laugh sprouted from the king.
How docile you are, calm and compliant. Your fathers words spoke promises of your obedience. Your teeth gritted at the situation you find yourself in. All too familiar to you, but not any less infuriating.
To be presented at auction, thrust into a room of what was most likely sleazy strangers and fear mongering men who wanted nothing more than a concubine of you. Inside, you were dully angered. But really, how could you expect anything more?
On the outside you remained the picture of ease. A calmness instilled in you that served as an anchor to yourself, refusing to allow this to crack your hard earned shell.
Coming to a halt before someone, you heard the high pitch of your father voice raise. "Mandalorian! How surprising to see you!" With wide arms the stout man leaned in for an embrace.
Unsure what stopped him from finishing the gesture though, he continued, "Ah well, you never have been the sentimental type, have you?"
A brief silence took over, dry and awkward before Virrok cleared his throat and shuffled his feet, "My little dove here is quite the catch. I should think she would perfect for you." His hand guiding you roughly closer by the elbow. "Something soft and sweet to take your troubles to at the days end, no?" The sickly sweet sound of a salesman buttering up a client for a sale sickened you.
The Mandalorian, as your father called him, let out an almost imperceptible sigh, "What of her rumored attachment?"
Your fathers voice went tight, but the smile never faltering. "The girl has remained untouched, I assure you, kind sir." He never did like to be questioned. Truthfully, the "engagement" was simply the highest bid on your head, from a man you loathed. The Prince was arrogant and unashamed in his lust for you. During your reauired meetings, he alluded frequently to the ways he would keep you submissive.
Shifting your eyes, you could only see the boots, black and sturdy, change his stance nearly imperceptibly. Not what you expected from this crowd of what you assumed is mainly business men and heirs to other thrones. Perhaps he is a knight of some kind? Do they exist anymore? Men with morals and integrity. You doubted it, having long since stopped believing in fairytales.
"Darling, do look up now, there is someone I shall like you to meet." Fingers dig into the skin under your chin and lifted your eyes to meet theirs.
At least, what would have been eyes. Instead you gazed into the black visor of a silver helmet and a shiver travelled down your spine. Ever so slightly his helmet angled to the right, "How much to ensure she is mine." The man spoke in a steely voice, seeming to command even your father into a stiled answer.
"Ah Mandalorian, the girl has yet to entertain other offers tonight — " Your head once again met your chest as you lowered it, unwilling to witness the negotiations of your life. "I'll double any offer in this room." The statuesque man seemed to growl the words more than speak them.
He was sure of himself and you were nervous whether that was to be a good sign or a bad one.
Then as a small paper was traded between the two, an empty grin plastered itself over your fathers face. "Very well," he gestured forward towards the door leading out. "Shall we begin?"
The three of you started forward and you breathed deeply as the heavy thud of the Mandalorians boots echoed down the stone halls like the drum to a death march.

Love to Kevin Libranda, making probably the best art for a leader in Set 3
First off, this is from the current set, Set 3, Twilight of the Republic, This is the full-art treatment of the card, called Hyperspace (that's what the streaks are there for)
I main an Anakin Command Deck this set (with an Ahsoka Cunning deck as well, ill go over her as well) but this is the more meta deck.
I LOVE this art. They chose to take everything about this card from the Citadel arc of season 3 of TCW, so the background is Lola Sayu, a rock planet where almost the entire southern hemisphere is exposed to the lava of the mantel. that cliff face, with the overhang of mushroom like rock, looks perfectly
They also perfectly captured the season 3-6 look of Anakin here, while not cartoonifying the design as much as they might have. The robes, the stance, the furrowed brow is perfect
And the theming, on tope of everything, is perfect. The Subtitle, "What It Takes to Win" is taken directly from the arc itself, where after the gang rescues the then captain Tarkin from prison, Anakin ask Tarkin why he lacks trust in the jedi. Tarkin responds that they are ineffective in the war, that they are peacekeepers, and the Jedi code prevents them from doing "Whatever it takes to Win". Anakin agrees with him, as Tarkin has just laid out his own struggles with the order exactly.
This subtitle sums up Anakin as a character perfectly. Not only is it a reference to him being the Chosen One (literally what it takes to win against the Sith and bring balance), but it brings forth his nature as someone who will not allow anything to stop him, ei. win. Anakin meets someone he loves and loves him, and he does whatever it takes to win (be with her despite the code). When he becomes a general, his approach to combat is fast paced, front leading and sometimes arrogant, everything the jedi code tried to temper out of him, but despite that, he has the most successful campaign of the war, decisively winning every major conflict we see the 501st involved in, because of this "what it takes to win" attitude. He even trained Ahsoka like this, to trust herself and her abilities, not just the code and her orders, and she survived because of it. And when it came to a head, when Anakin was faced with what he thought was the ultimate choice he could make, to save his wife from death and to end the war and bring peace to the galaxy, he agonized over it, but he made his choice, he did what it takes to "win", and it took everything from him. But that was the only option, it was his nature to try to solve everything on his own, in a world where no one else had ever tried and been able to do the same, he consistently did the miraculous, even among those who could do such things, and he continued to try until the end, when he sacrificed himself to defeat Palpatine, to win, he did whatever it takes.
This ties perfectly with his leader ability, to damage your own base, then attack for extra damage, just as Anakin's recklessness is a double edged sword. In game, it allows for you to trade up easily. and sets you up to have likely at least 15 damage on your base by your 6th resource. But at that 6th resource, you flip anakin, and because each 5 damage on your base means an attack power, he has at least 7 attack power and 7 defense, and you are instantly the most powerful unit on the board. and since you have overwhelm, you can attack anything, from a battledroid to a small tank, and your damage will overflow into the base. then it your like me, you buff him with generals saber, and your in a winstate, in the exact same way Anakin was for the entirety of the clone wars.
Right now, Anakin Vigilance is the meta deck, because having Luke and Anakin on the bored at the same time is busted. Definetely a must build deck if you have a playset of Luke units.

“ken, are you done?”
“no, not yet, sweetheart. just a couple more minutes, can you wait for a few more?”
“okay...”
kento’s work was cancelled due to the heavy rain. as per usual, he could not escape from his paperworks.
you figured that he could use some company, so you walked up to him and sat on his lap, resting you head on the crook of his neck.
“done?” you asked again.
kento just shakes his head with a long sigh.
a few more minutes passed by, kento noticed your word’s absence. no ‘are you done?’ or ‘how many more minutes, ken?’
he looks down only to find you sleeping like a baby, so comfortable with his warmth. a sight that makes kento smile.
as soon as he was finally done, kento carried you to your shared bed and pushed your head in his chest.
the sudden movement made your eyes open, still laced with sleep.
“are you... done, ken?” you sleepily muttered.
“i am, sweetheart. go back to sleep, my attention is all yours now.”
mumbling a little ‘yay’ as you go back to sleep, too drowsy to move.
he loves the weather because it’s the most perfect one for cuddling and staying in bed for hours... with you.

I guess this is transitioning into a Star Wars: Unlimited blog...? I'm not sure yet, but it's close enough to Netrunner, and I still have this site, so I might as well post here. I've been thinking a lot lately about this game, about our family, and about how following my son's obsession has led us back to a hobby I'd pretty much abandoned. I'm going to write a bit about that thinking here today...
Our family's obsession with Star Wars: Unlimited has been continuing. We've spent way too much on it (as happens with a TCG/CCG). Our son is really getting into it, and he's been looking up new cards daily, as it's spoiler season for the set releasing in November. That set, Twilight of the Republic, has cards set during the prequels, the Clone Wars, and related lore, which are his favorite. The picture here is him jotting down card names (and rarity!) so he can share them with a friend of his that he rides the bus with every day.
It's kind of ... magical to see this? It's not something I've experienced before, getting into a new game at the same time as your kid. And it's a great game, as well — one that has tiresome old dudebasher bones, but does some interesting things with old mechanics. Don't get me wrong, Netrunner is by far the superior game, but it's also the refined, elusive, and frankly snobbier experience. The lore is — or was, before Null Signal took over — really interesting, but it's not got the same connection to one's lizard brain that Star Wars has for many people. And I think that makes a surprising amount of difference.
Star Wars: Unlimited is just a mess narratively, and I find myself enjoying that a lot. None of it makes narrative sense — sometimes you're smashing a Millennium Falcon into a Star Destroyer and it has a bit of a feel of a movie. The rest of the time, you're, like, watching Kylo Ren fight Greedo. It's a mishmash of everything in the lore, and that's surprisingly... freeing? Weirdly fun?
I think my biggest insight is the following. I'm someone who was a Star Wars fan in childhood, grew into a snobby Star Trek fan shortly afterwards, and rationalized that Star Wars was shitty media for children intended to sell toys through most of my adulthood. The funny thing is — I was right, and that's okay! Star Wars: Unlimited has the anarchic feel of playing with Star Wars toys at times. Sure, make your Rey leader do direct damage to the Dagobah Swamp. Go ahead, have Grogu disable Grand Moff Tarkin for a turn. Your Fett's Firespray just swooped down and killed my surgical droid!
They're toys. As cards. And toys are fun!
....
Back in 2014 or so, when I first started going to FFG Worlds for Netrunner, I remember the Netrunner players' arrogance and hubris. I felt a lot of that arrogance and hubris myself.
There were Call of Cthulhu LCG players there, playing in their final FFG tournament. We shared a big warehouse to play in the Netrunner Icebreaker tournament with Star Wars LCG players, which only had another year or two before it folded. Netrunner was still ascendant and the players had a real "we're the cool game" swagger to them — which continued well into the rise of L5R (I remember Netrunner players making day two of L5R Worlds so they could play more Netrunner).
Now, of course, Netrunner is still alive, but of course, it really isn't. It's a game played primarily online by an offputtingly international player base. On the surface, the changes to Netrunner in the past 6-7 years have all been great — increased attention to diversity in both the card game representation as well as the team of developers, increased professionalism in printing and distribution of cards (other than, ahem, the European store), and a real fervor for the game from a cadre of new players who'd never experienced the FFG game. That all sounds wonderful, but it's also frankly, deadening.
Why? I think SWU is helping me understand why, at least a little bit. Netrunner has become a game for the obsessives and there's not much room in it for casual players. The national and international events are now dominated by, it seems, an even smaller number of top-tier players than there were during the FFG days. The game's design seems to swing wildly as they have changed lead designers three times (not counting interims) in the past five years. And it's virtually impossible to get local communities built where there weren't any before.
SWU doesn't have that problem. I've been struck by how friendly and easygoing it is playing a new card game with a built-in fanbase. I might not particularly care about Star Wars as a thing, but I'm related to a boy who does, and that obsession has been a bit infectious. I've found myself learning what the "Adelphi Patrol Wing" is, the name of the character that rats on Rey, Han, Chewie, and Finn at Maz Kanata's castle in The Force Awakens, and I now remember exactly how many systems has bounties out on Doctor Evazan. All because of these cards.
Playing these games is supposed to be fun. And, with it in the rearview mirror, I see that Netrunner wasn't ever fun after the FFG days. It became a hotbed of player contention, lots of political infighting, and lots of desperate attempts to recruit people while the community withered. But never was it the same kind of silly, goofy, pass-the-time fun that it was before that. And that's because it lacked casuals — at least where I was playing.
Games like these need people with incomplete collections to come in and try to swing wildly with whatever cards they have. They need people motivated more to make themely decks (something much more intelligible in a Star Wars game than Netrunner) to try and repeatedly fail at them. They need people who see the cards as cardboard toys first and foremost. They need... kids.
And that brings me back to the start. Playing with our son has been transformative for me. I tried to get him and his sister to play Netrunner, but there's no hook there for them. Frankly, there was no hook there with Magic or Pokémon, either. By virtue of being a game based on the Star Wars license, there's a hook here, and one that I'm happy to get reeled in by.
Too bad it's so fucking expensive, though.
