Jedi: Fallen Order SWU Cards

So, the fifth set of star wars unlimited has come out, Legends of the Force, and this one is big . Its focus is on force users, because there is a new token in the game now called the force, most commonly generated if you have the new 28 health bases and attack with a force unit. And (as it should be), The force is strong, so the meta is changed quite a bit.

This set has a LOT of references from all over the place, canon and legends. There is almost every prequels era council member and not able jedi, a ton of stuff from Dathomir, The Mortis Gods, Purgills and a ton of other creatures, a few High Republic Cards, and a bunch of stuff from Kotor 1. I like the choices they made for this set a lot, but some of my favorite are the inclusion of cards referencing Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor, the former being my favorite star wars game.

The most notable of the additions is the leader Cal Kestis- I can't keep hiding.

Cal is a Heroic Cunning leader, which is fine, Cal isn't the smartest or smoothest of characters, I think vigilance fits him slightly better, but for his play style, cunning works best. "I can't keep hiding" is a direct line from Fallen Order, in which Cal is a survivor of Order 66 who is forced out of hiding by Inquisitors. One thing of note with this card is the traits, being Force and Fringe, with no Jedi trait. This doesn't really make sense in Cal's case, being a surviving jedi padawan who was knighted by another surviving jedi knight in the first game. He is the protagonists of the games titled "Jedi". I absolutely understand with the new Ahsoka leader (based on the Ahsoka show), but here it makes no sense, and given the amount of cards that interact with "Jedi" trait units, it really does affect the gameplay of the leader.

Cal is a leader that comes out on turn 4 and is a 3-4, which is the stat line you want for a hyper aggressive deck, kind of like Sabine Wren (an extremely popular deck for the entire game. This, however, is not necessarily what you want or need to do, given that Cal is such a fragile unit, and that his leader side (assuming you have the force) is really just as good. Being able to exhaust an enemy unit, even if the opponent can choose it when there are multiple options, is extremely annoying and disruptive for your opponent, and allows you to be as aggressive as you want if you have the right role of getting the force into taking the initiative. Cal is not a very often played leader right now(again, a four health leader is really weak), but his ability is something that I think makes up for it in some ways. He is very reminiscent of the set 3 leader Quinlan Vos, who has the ability to ping an enemy unit for one damage when play a unit with the same cost as the enemy unit. Just really annoying.

As for theming with the abilities, the ability to exhaust an opponent is almost certainly a reference to Force Slow, one of Cal's abilities in the games that make an opponent move at a reduced speed compared to everything around them. It works well, and is a better theming than a few other leaders (cough cough Kit Fisto).

As for the default art, I really like this one. Sandra Chilewińska did a great job with Cal from the first game, showing him after he gets his saberstaff (even showing Cere's hilt still on there) on what I assume is Zeffo, with BD-1 there as well, as he reaches out to use the force mid- jump. A great scene with all the necessary aspects. Cal just looks like he's having fun here, which is nice. I really like Cal's design from the first game, and this captures it perfectly. Really great leader art.

For the Showcase, they choose a very different scene, with Cal very focused on using the force, and with his lightsaber from before the saberstaff, with Jaro Tapal's original half hilt. The setting could still be Zeffo, but the roots hanging from above made me think more of Kashyyyk. Its not a bad showcase by any means, but I prefer the less serious view of Cal in the default art.

Okay, this is pretty incredible. A 3D artist, consulting scholars and archaeologists, worked for a year and a half in Blender to create a reconstruction of pre-Columbian Tenochtitlán, complete with the surrounding landscape. It’s staggeringly beautiful, and—at least to me—gives a wonderful impression of the city as a place where people worked and lived and worshiped

I've had too much caffeine and can't sleep so I've chosen discourse: Tony Stark is one of the least likeable characters I've ever come across.

Stark fans will be like oh my favorite character is the most egotistical human ever conceived. A man born into more money than God, a weapon profiteer who took getting hit by his own bombs to stop selling them, who required creating and preventing a robot apocalypse to realize that maybe he shouldn't be deciding things for everyone unilaterally. Then, faced with the guilt of the entire country his actions resulted in destruction of, he decided that the entire superabled world would have government oversight, which is a good idea because the government in question was recently discovered to be run by Nazis, something only discovered and taken care of by the same super heroes they hope to clip the wings of. And Its not like I don't think that that oversight of these people is a bad thing, but the government in the MCU is portrayed as such an incompetent and idiotic light that you have to look at the accords with that in mind. And it's not like they didn't let Tony keep a satellite that 3D prints drones with machine guns for signing, which Tony has hooked up to his personal glasses. And yes Tony is more complicated than this, and just self sacrificing enough to be the hero of every movie he is in, but it just runs me the wrong way that people's favorite superhero is the asshole billionaire whose arrogance resulted in an entire nations destruction, and then has the nerve to turn around and say "I think we all need to be put in check. The woman we just got out of Nazi experimentation should go register with the government and hope they don't mistreat her again. I'm gonna get all the things I've actually established I should not possess looked over, but not taken, and this teenager I've decided I get to parent now will be an exception to the rules I just decided we all need to follow."

I could be a thousand times more elegant in the way I say this but fuck the How to Train your Dragon remake. There is no possible improvement to that film, much less one that can be done by a live action cast and sets that look like they're made for insurance commercials.

Ive been seeing a lot of posts about how the "live action" httyd movie is actually really good because it's basically a one-for-one shot of the original minus some key scenes and "who cares if its a cash grab cuz I enjoyed it" and like. Correct me if im wrong but shouldn't we not support blatant cash grab remakes who prey on your feelings of nostalgia and make a lazy attempt to take your money? Didn't we condemn a lot of Disney remakes for being soulless rehashes of the original?

How to train your dragon is a beautiful movie and it deserves better than a pointless remake to take your money. You deserve better. Put yout dollar where your mouth is.
