I while ago I was thinking about Reyna and her relationship with allonormativity, and these were the thoughts I dropped into the Discord server to explain my thoughts on it so far;

Because yeah - Rick has stated he thinks Reyna is alloace, and I can why people would think that, but Reyna just reads as arospec to me instead of acespec. But the thing is, Reyna's whole deal was centered around her relationship with romance - and asexuality doesn't cover that. Aromanticism does.

I'm spitballing here but like. Let there be girls who join the Hunt but aren't necessarily opposed to romance. Reyna has never once stated she isn't interested in a relationship, but that at this point in her life, it's not on her agenda. Figuring herself out is top priority, and I love that for her <3

so yeah. Demiromantic Reyna is my heart.

The hunters of Artemis, Reyna, and Asexuality in Riordan's writing

I kinda started thinking about this since Reyna became a hunter. I could never articulate why I hated this Choice. I was asexual after all. Shouldn't I be happy about this rep? We Ace people barely get any after all. Then I realized that it's because I just didn't like the hunters as ace representation. And I didn't need to be grateful for mediocrity.

You want to know why the hunters of Artemis suck in general? And as Ace rep specifically? Because Riordan did not write them with that mindset.

Like people are so busy hailing this man as the king of representation in literature(blegh) that they forgot how heteronormative and white(sometimes racist) the original series was. Y'all really think this man was thinking about writing asexuals in the year 2007? Get real. What Riordan was doing was a white man trying to write feminism and failing (there's a reason most of his female characterization of female characters boils down to tough "not like other girls" characters who are dicks to the boys around them yet also to the girls around them if they're jealous)

Now onto the hunters.

The hunters when first presented in TTC are not a group of asexuals but rather religious celibates. Fantasy Pegan nuns if you may. The first problem arises when their ages are brought up.

"Then the archers came from the woods. They were girls, about a dozen of them. The youngest was maybe ten. The oldest, about fourteen..."

Remember, before ToA gave us Emmie and Jo, the hunters WERE all young girls. Now why in the world are they so young? Especially when in the actual myths, the hunters could come from any age whatsoever? Well the reason is a doozy.

"Are you surprised by my age?" she asked.

"Uh… a little."

"I could appear as a grown woman, or a blazing fire, or anything else I want, but this is what I prefer. This is the average age of my Hunters, and all young maidens for whom I am patron, before they go astray."

"Go astray?" I asked.

"Grow up. Become smitten with boys. Become silly, preoccupied, insecure. Forget themselves."

Hooo boy. What a way to phrase it. Going astray. Losing themselves. This kinda confirms that the reason why Artemis goes after young girls specifically is because she only wants girls who have yet to finish puberty. Girls have yet to discover their own sexuality. Now I'm not a representative of Asexuals everywhere, but I'm pretty sure most of us don't discover our sexuality at the age of ten. Let alone have the maturity to decide to become celibates about it. And let me reiterate: celibacy is not sexuality. Sure asexual people CAN choose to be celibates but it's not the same thing at all. In fact Zoe and Thalia are big cases for this. Both of them had liked men before(herakles and luke) but joined for their own reasons. Thalia to escape the prophecy and Zoe out of heartbreak. Hell, Bianca herself is mostly swayed by the idea of having no responsibility and a new family.

Now Rick does another thing that goes against the myths. The exclusion of make hunters. Artemis frequently hung around or taught male hunters who respected her. Daphnis, Scamandrius, freaking Hippolytus whom Artemis greatly cared about. Oh but we need to come up with bullshit reasons why Nico can't just join the hunt with his sisters so the hunters of Artemis are all: Ewww men. Also note how at no point does Riordan mention people who fall in love with women.

Now the next point is the oath itself. Artemis says this:

"What oath?" I said.

"To forswear romantic love forever," Artemis said. "To never grow up, never get married. To be a maiden eternally."

When I tell you that Emmy and Joe were retcons . Rick was freaking INSISTENT on the hunters being kids. Also note the three points: to never fall in love, to never get married, to stay a maiden.

I mean I think I don't need to explain why obsessing over the virginity of young girls is creepy. Does Riordan think girls older than fourteen can't keep it in their pants? And let me be adamant here Riordan only cares about the virginity Clause here. He mentions falling in love and marriage because he sees them inherently intertwined with sex.

Now onto the wording of the oath itself:

'I pledge myself to the goddess Artemis. I turn my back on the company of men, accept eternal maidenhood, and join the Hunt.'

I mean you might be able to interpret men here as mankind and therefore excluding women as well. But I have many reasons to believe that Riordan didn't even CONSIDER women as a possibility(someone inform this man that lesbians existed smh 😞). Also note that falling in love is not mentioned in the actual oath but maidenhood is.

Now onto the next big issue. Percy Jackson's Greek gods and its chapter on Artemis. It basically confirms all of my problems.

"IT’S NOT THAT ARTEMIS HATED ALL MEN, just most of them. From the moment she was born, she knew one critical fact: Guys are kinda gross."

No mention of girls. In this chapter Percy(Rick) brings up Artemis' disdain for dudes over and over again.

“Let me be a maiden forever, Father,” Artemis said, twirling her finger in Zeus’s beard. “I never want to get married.---- But you can grant me a bunch of followers: ocean nymphs, river nymphs, wood nymphs—what the heck, how about mortal girls, too? Any girls who want to join me can become my followers, as long as they remain maidens like me. They should probably make the decision when they’re about nine years old, before they get interested in boys, because after that, they’ll be all distracted and of no use to me.”

Yikes yikes yikes. Ladies and gentlemen the age has been lowered to 9. Freaking 9. Also I guess girls older than that don't need Artemis' protection then? (the real problem is that older/married girls should be out of Artemis's jurisdiction and under the protection of other gods like Hera, Hestia, and Ares. But Hestia is barely there. Hera is terrible and the Amazons also suck)

Now when I tell you that Artemis' big point was about virginity, I mean it. This actually has mythological evidence.

The myths actually DO mention what happens when female hunters fall in love. Rhodopis and Euthynicus were two hunters who offended Aphrodite by choosing a chaste life so she had Eros make them fall in love. However note that they weren't booted out of the hunters for falling in love, but rather after having sex in a cave. THAT was what Artemis took offense to.

Another myth is the story of Aura. A huntress who offended Artemis by comparing their breasts(Greek mythology am I right?). Saying that her breast were better than Artemis' because they were smaller and hey maybe that means that Artemis isn't actually a maiden. Artemis punishes her by making her lose her VIRGINITY. She goes to nemesis for revenge. Nemesis goes to Eros who makes Dionysus fall in love with Aura and when Aura refuses his advances he ties her up and... Yeah you can guess where I'm going with this.

But hey! Those myths aren't in the Greek gods book. You know which myth is? The myth of C(K)allisto. And this one angers me so much I want to chew on the drywall.

The way Riordan writes it. Zeus turns himself into Artemis, brings Kallisto's guards down with the disguise, gets close to her and then when Kallisto REJECTS Artemis' supposed advances, forces himself on her. I need to say this again. Kallisto does not fall in love, she isn't seduced, she does not break her oath. But we still need a reason for her to be yeeted out of the hunters so her lack of maidenhood it is

“You were my favorite,” Artemis said. “If you had come to me immediately, I could have helped you. I would have found you a rich, handsome husband and let you settle into a new life in the city of your choice. I would have allowed you to retire from the Hunt with honor. You could have gone in peace. Zeus’s assault was not your fault.”

Kallisto sobbed. “But I didn’t want to lose you! I wanted to stay!”

Artemis felt like her heart was breaking, but she couldn’t show it. She had rules about her followers. She couldn’t allow those rules to be broken, not even by her best friend. “Kallisto, your crime was keeping the secret from me. You dishonored me, and your sisters of the Hunt, by not being honest. You defiled our company of maidens when you were not a maiden yourself. That I cannot forgive.”

I want to slap this man so hard he flies to the opposite side of the universe. We are not here to blame victims of assault guys! Except we are! But with extra steps. If you get attacked, it's not your fault, but If you are too scared to admit the truth then you deserve to lose your only safe space and turn into a bear. Oh nooooo Kallisto DEFILED Artemis' company by being an icky non virgin. The moment you lose your virginity even if it's not your fault you get punished. But not because I'm gross but because YOU lied. How terrible! And he expects us to feel for ARTEMIS???

But rosabell! This is how things go in the myths. What was uncle Rick (bleghhhh) supposed to do? I don't know... Choose a different version of the story? There are versions were Zeus/Hera are the ones who transform Kallisto into a bear. There are versions where Kallisto actively CHOOSES to sleep with Artemis. Granted it's still assault because she's being lied to but at least then, she'd have a degree of autonomy in the events. At least Artemis could rightfully accuse her of breaking her oath. But noooo, Riordan doesn't know lesbians exist. He actively makes Zeus into a canonical Ra*ist. Why is he on the throne again?

Once again, Riordan sees maidenhood(virginity)/love/marriage as intertwined. This is NOT what being on the aroace spectrum means. You can fall in love but not have sex. You can have sex but not fall in love. You can have sex AND still be an asexual. You can be married and still be a "maiden". Riordan doesn't get to claim to be such a progressive ally for retconning the hunters in 2017, TEN years after he first introduced the hunters because he suddenly remembered that lesbians exist.

Or more like because he doesn't know what to do with his female characters. The hunters more than anything are Riordan's heroine dumping ground. If you don't want it put them in relationships, either kill them(Bianca whose main purpose is to die) or make them eternal virgins(the hunters, Rachel). The fact that some people genuinely think that Calypso should have joined the hunters astound me. Girl suffered for years because of the gods and you all think that the best thing outside of Leo for her(not that I like Caleo) is to become a servant to the gods? Because you can't perceive a female character doing anything else if she's not in a relationship. Like with Thalia, this at least made sense on a strategic level because she didn't want to reach sixteen. Oh but we also don't know what else to do with her so she needs to want to be a hunter after the war is over so we give her a half-assed argument with Luke and now she can be all: wah wah Zoe you were totally right about boys. And the cherry on the cake is that she doesn't even get to be in the final confrontation with Luke or say goodbye to him because of a freaking STATUE. And after pjo her personality becomes Zoe 2.0 and her and Jason get ONE measly meeting.

When I first spoke of not liking Renya joining the hunters this is what I mean. Riordan had so many options with Reyna. Why did she have to leave her esteemed position which she worked so hard for? Two boys rejected her? Why couldn't she go reconnect with her sister more then? She could have joined the Amazons. But nooo Riordan was so allergic to the fans asking him wether she could be Bi or a lesbian. For the stupidest reasons too? Oh Reyna being a lesbian would come off as stereotypical because she got rejected by two guys beforehand! My dude, do you think people don't say the same thing about us who are on the aroace spectrum? That we say we are aro/ace because we got rejected before? Come up with a better excuse next time.

My brother in Christ couldn't even allow Reyna to talk about her sexuality and whatnot. It couldn't even be fully about her. No. He had to turn Reyna into his own mouthpiece admonishing the EVILLLL fans who may have shipped Thalia and Renya. He literally had her say the word "shipping". How cringe can you get? And then he had the audacity to admonish the fans by saying: Why does a strong friendship always have to progress to romance?

It's a sentiment I agree with but coming from this man, it's extremely hypocritical? I don't know Richard maybe because YOU are obsessed with shipping? No character can escape your shipping hands unless they're eternal virgins or dead. You literally turned the Argo2 into Noah's ark2. So much attention focused on shipping that the seven barely felt like friends.

Why does Reyna need to join the hunters? She can choose to not relationship without having to become a servant to female Peter pan.

This is actually a really adequate metaphor when you consider that Emmie and Jo say that they have not met Artemis in YEARS and Apollo mentions that the two of them were lucky she let them LIVE. god can you imagine joining Artemis when you are 9? At an age when you have still not finished maturimg cognitively and therefore shouldn't be trusted on taking a freaking celibacy vow(were you even given the talk yet that age) and after 70 years you decide you want to leave? If you're lucky Artemis will part with you on good terms but SIKES every person you probably knew before joining is now dead. Where is THAT angsty Bianca fic?

Speaking of Bianca. How she was handled also angers me. In another post, I've already talked about how the hunters barely gave her adequate information before letting her join.

How Zoe was the main reason for her death. Zoe KNEW that at least 2 people might die in the quest she was given and yet she decided to bring the least experienced girl to the quest and couldn't even watch her properly.

But you know what else pisses me off? The fact that THEY should have been the one to tell Nico about his sister's death. I've always hated how Chiron made Percy the CHILD tell Nico the other CHILD about his sister dying. But more than anyone, it should have been the hunters' responsibility. Bianca was THEIR responsibility. She died in a quest to save Artemis. The least they could do was tell her remaining family of her fate. The Doylist reason of course is that we need to kickstart Nico and Percy's complicated relationship and have Percy discover that Nico is a son of Hades. But in universe, the fact that they immediately fuck off from the camp upon regrouping makes them come off as extremely selfish. We don't even know if Bianca was given a funeral by them or not. We see Artemis being upset about Zoe but we never see her react to the news of losing Bianca.

Jason never expected a job to feel right. All his life he's had to slog through everything he's done, school and extracurriculars and college and internships. But being a pre-k teacher, it is like a calling.

He loves it. He loves the kids and he loves the work. He loves all the learning he has to do, his educational hours and licensing fly by now that it's something he wants to study. He likes making projects, and decorating the classroom door, and helping the kids solve problems.

And he loves getting to be for these kids, something he never had. Someone gentle, and solid, and unwavering. To show patience, and compassion, and expression. To make sure mistakes are treated kindly, and energy is redirected instead of punished. It's almost like healing in a way

Things change when summer program starts.

There are more kids for one, the pre-k classroom getting some of the overflow of children of teachers who work there. There is also less of a consistent skedual for some of the kids with vacations and parents home to watch siblings, dysregulating a handful of kids. Pick ups change too, times when parents can get out of work or family members in town visiting

And also Harleys brother, that's the big one

Jason likes Harley, he's a great kid. One of the little boys who is all tumbly and always building something, affectionate and excitable and loving to participate. He is a new adoption for one of their foster families, well known in the school and community from how many kids they have worked with. From what Jason has gathered Jo and Emmi have had a multitude of kids over the years, some who have even aged out at this point but still call their house home, it's a wonderful thing to witness

They got a heads up at drop-off that an older foster brother is home from grad school and will be picking up for the rest of summer. He's apparently already on the pick up list, having done this for many summers before as a way to help out, Jason doesn't pay much mind to it until the end of the day

They are well into the start of closing, kids at stations and table toys as parents trickle in to collect their offspring. Jason is elbow-deep in sanitizing the block center, half an eye on the Doll House and half on the Lego Wall when Harley springs up

“Leo!” Harley screams, abandoning his Legos and racing to the door

And standing there is probably one of the prettiest guys Jason has ever laid eyes on

He's not pretty in the classic sense, not conventionally attractive, but he's pretty nonetheless. Brown skin and curly hair, a slight crooked angle to his gap-toothed smile, with kind dark eyes. He's short and slight in stature, wearing a vintage army jacket about a size too big with cargo pants tucked into his Doc-Martens. He also has a service dog, some shepherd golden something that Harley is loving all over and is distracting the other kids. Reyna has the for thought to wrangle them back towards their stations, explaining how the dog is working and leaving Jason to do handover

Someway, somehow, Leo had not given you an actual hug

Like you two would joke, lean on each other, you’ve even kissed idk how many times

But the hugs you’ve shared only ever lasted for like a second

Then, one day you just decide to hug him

It was random and out of nowhere, not that it mattered

This was the first time that the itch Leo had for physical affection was finally scratched

He doesn’t remember how long you two stood there, just embracing, but he does remember how much he loved the hug

He practically melted, molding to fit in your arms perfectly

This doesn’t go unnoticed either

He teases and makes jokes, but you can tell he really looks forward to any affection you give him, especially these hugs of yours

So give them to him, we all know how desperately blud needs them

Eventually it becomes a daily occurrence

So much so that Leo becomes absolutely and utterly shameless

Always going to see you (whether you’re at camp, the Waystation, your house, etc) just to receive some affection

(The distance won’t be too long since you’re inseparable)

Others begin noticing and your friends at camp, Emmie and Jo, even Festus 😭 begin to tease him

I mean Jo was one of the people that Leo talked to about you (mainly for advice) so it was inevitable

Aside from just liking them, Leo feels absolutely safe when you hug him

He’s barely been introduced to the demigod lifestyle (in comparison to you probably)

So being able to relax is a limited luxury

There was always this or that, and if it wasn’t, it was something entirely else

Even before he met Piper and Jason, went to camp half blood and built the Argo-

He was couch surfing for a good while (can only be described that way since he was hardly ever at his foster homes) no security whatsoever and had no idea what tomorrow would be like

Especially when he’d sleep under the Houston bridge

At least now when you hold him he allows himself to be himself than just joking all the time as a way to cope

Plus, you really just make him feel like he isn’t the “7th wheel”

Honestly a firm believer that you hugging him would cure all his problems

Which is why he always goes to you when he’s had a bad day

Maybe it was when you guys visit camp and he has to wait to see you, or after school when you guys have no classes together and he’s just exhausted

Even without an excuse he’ll still look for you.

Today a friend and fellow camper had gotten harmed while you two practiced (truly a story for another time) and so you had to accompany her to the infirmary. Not just because you cared, but was also just worried overall.

Leo must’ve heard from a Dionysus kid through the grapevine because one moment you’re by your friends side as Will is treating her and the next Leo is at your side.

At first he’s apprehensive and skims his eyes over you from head to toe, once he sees that you’re not hurt he sighs and starts sulking.

Just a playful and weirdly funny habit he’s learned (?)

“I thought you were hurt when I heard that you had come to the infirmary” honestly a pretty valid assessment.

“Awww” you’re babying him, just to tease his previous behavior “I’m sorry I worried you”

You went in and gave him a wholehearted hug, just to emphasize your point you began soothing the back of his head.

And to add some theatrics, you began swaying him back and forth.

Usually Leo loved to be affectionate and open back, but seeing as he got caught in his arguably cringe response, well…

Leos face immediately flushed and despite it, he still hugged you back, melting into your arms.

He didn’t argue, didn’t say anything really. Maybe he just wanted to get rid of the humiliation he felt.

Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy galore

One thing I've noticed is that so many of the relationships in Percy Jackson had in common was jealousy.

Annabeth is jealous of Rachel, Calypso, Reyna and even Hazel for a few seconds because they're close to Percy.

Percy is jealous of Luke because of his close relationship with Annabeth (this is not romantic, but it's still jealousy).

Piper is jealous of Reyna and even Annabeth at one point because the latter was comforting/helping Jason.

Calypso is jealous of Reyna because she thought that he was Leo's girlfriend.

Frank is jealous of Leo because..........Leo's great grandad was Hazel's first love. And he thought that Hazel and Leo might have had something.

Nico is jealous of Will staring at Paolo to assess how his arms are working. (And it's treated as cute, too, which is something else that's bad.)

Grover is jealous of Juniper thinking that Luke was handsome.

Reyna is jealous of Piper and Annabeth (it's not unfounded, honestly, but she's still jealous).

It's a very interesting pattern I've noticed. It seems like main characters in PJO can't be in a relationship without having at least one jealous moment. Rick Riordan don't make your characters jealous of others for flimsy reasons challenge (impossible?).

Then again, they're teenagers and their hormones are high (I should think) so it might make sense that they're jealous, but Rick never touches on or says this in his books.

Also, all of them are teenagers and they're jealous. The adult couple, Jo and Emmie, were very healthy, probably the best couple with no jealousy.

Casual Representation of Queer People in Riordan Books Has Me Grinning.

Uncle Rick is like: Here is a good representation of the erasure of queer people when Nico grew up. (1932, Italy.) Also that scene where he goes "Ares looks pretty." (Mythomagic) and the other kid goes, "THAT'S GROSS."

*Also casually mentions the fact that Will Solace had to deal with homophobia and discrimination growing up. (He was born in 1996, remember? Back then, Texas had laws against same-sex relationships and marriage.)* (TO CLARIFY: TEXAS' MORE HARMFUL LAWS WERE OFF BY THE TIME HE WAS 8, BUT TEXAS DIDN'T REALLY BECOME OPENLY INCLUSIVE UNTIL HE HAD LEFT FOR CHB AT 11/12 YEARS OLD.)

Some people figure it out early, others don't realise until their well into their teens. The damage was probably already done, though, in his upbringing. Naomi would have been supportive, but gods know how much sh|t he heard from other people the moment he showed mild interest in anything other that blue and black monster trucks or dinosaurs or toy guns or something. 'That shirt looks nice.' 'It's pink and therefore girly. Don't go near it.'

There are many others written to be queer or curious. Apollo is just openly bi/pansexual. Alec from Magnus Chase is openly gender-fluid. (he/she/they, depends on what he/she/they feel(s).) Epiales too, openly non-binary. (They are one of the cacodemons of Nyx, introduced in 'The Sun and the Star".) There's inclusion of aroace characters and sapphic characters too, with Hunter of Artemis and the 2 retired Hunters with their adopted daughter in Trials of Apollo. (Jo and Emmie, adopted Georgie)

Something I'd like to point out here is that the plot doesn't revolve around the fact that they are LGBTQIA+. Rick Riordan didn't go: look at this character. They are non-binary. That's their whole personality. That's right, THEIR. THEY chose these pronouns. One of the only complication in THEIR story is that people aren't accepting them enough.

Instead, these characters are written beautifully with depth and beliefs and losses and flaws. A lot of these characters' sexuality ties directly to their upbringing and experiences. Their sexuality helps readers perceive the emotional complexity in their writing. Being queer isn't essential to the plot, it is one of their characteristics. It helps readers understand them.

Sometimes, it's just 'I'm gay.' 'Ok :D' And that level of acceptance and acknowledgement SLAPS.

What is in your opinion a) the best Sapphic ship and b) what are your headcanons for them?

This has been in my ask box since may, and it’s been on my mind for a while.

So sorry I took ages to answer, I was waiting to finish the series so that I’d have all the relevant info (I’d heard Thalia x Reyna is a thing and I wanted to see for myself) don’t worry I HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN ABOUT YOU-

Also, Life has gotten pretty badly in the way of things lately.

Tbh I haven’t really seen/paid attention to the sapphic ships in PJO.

Currently, drafting this before BoO, I’d say it’s probably Ruegard (Selena x Clarisse). While I very much think Beckendorf and Selena were in love, you can’t have two same-sex characters parallel Patroclus and Achilles and NOT have them be queer-coded (Unless Rick genuinely believed that Patrochillies really were just platonic besties, which is objectively false and factually incorrect and gay erasure honestly Rick).

I think Dying For Each Other IS queer culture (Valgrace for LIFEEEE).

While I swear by Aro/Ace Reyna and will die on this hill, the ships she’s paired with are cute dynamics.

- Theyna is badass. It gives similar vibes to Buffy x Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (easily one of the non-canon sapphic ships of all time) I just love how when they first met Thalia kidnapped Reyna and Reyna hit her with a chair. I just see that and think “couple goals”.

- @demigod-shenanigans has forced me to think about Pipeyna and honestly yeah they would be really cute. Particularly their dynamic paired with Valgrace. I love Reyna and Jason’s friendship and I love her relationship with Leo.

- Reynabeth (is that a ship? It should be). Daughter of War Goddess x Daughter of War Goddess SUPREME!!!!

But also, we need more aro/ace rep in media. I heart my aro/ace siblings.

Pipabeth is also some of the most sapphic shit I’ve ever seen. I think it’s just RR not really knowing how female friendships work (or maybe it’s me never really having the kinda touchy-feely female friendship I see on TV all the time, and so being unable to comprehend that kind of platonic compassion, but I’m not gonna unpack that here) but you can’t tell me these aren’t two cottagecore lesbians collecting mushrooms and building a fence and shit that cottagecore lesbians do.

Also shoutout to Rachabeth and basically any sapphic Annabeth ship. She is bi in my mind.

Shelper is underdeveloped. There is so much potential in a mortal x demigod relationship that was explored a little bit with Perrachel but never fully. I need to write a fic about them at some point.

🌟 Plots I’m willing to explore -

Reese Willow is a fledgling vampire who is sent on a mission by his sire to target and take down an infamous vampire hunter's son, only for the plane Reese was following him on to crash land. After a handful of months, only Reese and the other man are the only survivors remaining, until it's just Reese. For the next 29 years Reese remains stranded, walking along the wilderness in a daily routine like a ghost, until another vampire finally picks up his weak delusional voice amongst the many and seeks him out.

Forbidden love, childhood friends who become estranged because of (Daniel)’s strict parents and eventually moving away to the other side of the country, then when (Daniel) comes back for college under his father's supervision (despite being over 18 now) and the two former friends are completely different from each other now (Daniel) for his public image by default just goes with the other popular wealthy students while the former childhood friend is more down to earth and nerdy and their groups/cliches clash to the point where (Daniel) is sort of a bully this friend as this 'tough guy' front. A short lived (private/behind the scenes, kinda toxic and probably on and off again) ‘situationship’ takes place in that time until the 4 year degree is finished (but Daniel transfers out half a year early) and a handful more years later (Daniel) has settled down in that old town again, slowly starting to get his life together and take responsibility for being a dad now himself but he also cant stop thinking about the childhood friend/lover.

The only son of a wealthy family clashes with their parents every chance he gets, rebels, tries his best to be untraditional and overall just piss them off hires an unconventional sex worker named Emmy an obscene amount of money to come home with him for the weekend and pretend to be his significant other and/or fiance. Feelings develop and it becomes really complicated when his father eventually like offers him an opportunity that is nearly impossible to turn down and he has the choice to either leave them behind with nothing to the life that was nearly killing them or give up his own cushy lifestyle and let love prevail. Alternatively, a older man who thinks he’s straight, has a successful career, empty marriage and multiple kids ends up falling in love with a slightly younger intersex and narcoleptic sex worker, the first and only sex worker he hires.

Post-apocalyptic setting, Celeste the final survivor of a run down camp continues to live among the undead of their loved ones. Another survivor from a nearby camp stumbles upon the ruins of the previous camp while scavenging and sees someone alive on the other side of the fence, living with the dead as if they were dead as well. Day by day they come back, bringing their new things, trying to bring some life back into them again.

Damon is a serial killer that moves around city to city state to state every year to kill another local predator in hopes that one day he'll manage to take down the number of men (whose faces he can't remember) who abused him, using his job as a criminal data analyst to not only cover up his killings but also look for new targets that may have missed the sex offender registry or dodged conviction despite solid proof against them. This time when he moves to a new city and gets settled in he finds that somebody else had already gotten to his potential target, not only that, this didn't seem to be the first killing like this in the area. But this time the perpetrator left a tiny piece of evidence that everyone else but Damon noticed, and instead of turning it in to help solve the case he keeps it to himself with peaked interest.

16th - 19th century setting ✨

Enemies to lovers, a member of the royal family ends up falling for a knight that saves their life, unfortunately, this knight just happens to be the royal’s childhood enemy.   The youngest son of a royal is 7th in line for the throne and has health issues, thus has no chance of inheriting the throne. in attempts to grasp onto any bit of power his father has, the royal marries off his frail and feminine son as a wife to a prince of another territory, an upcoming heir of a throne (loosely inspired by sporus and nero).

The King allowed his son (Lucien) to be abused by his painting instructor growing up, all this rage builds up and explodes when Lucien tries to convict his instructor, but the King instead pardons the boy’s abuser during a set of public trials outside the castle. Lucien, a teenager and young Prince at the time, kills his father in front of everyone, unintentionally becoming King himself from then on. Despite exiling his abuser after the bloody trial, the then Prince, now King is seen as cruel and scary, not to be crossed even nearly ten years later. Meanwhile, a citizen with a sick sister is caught stealing medicine. Being on trial with King Lucien is scary enough, but medicine thieves in particular are known to be punished heavily, since the Princess, who is one of the only people thats kind to the prince-now-king, makes a majority of the medicine available. During a public trial, the thieve’s mother pleads for his life and Lucien realizes that the thief is someone he knew, that he had recognized those fearful eyes from somewhere else. He was amongst the crowd when he killed his own father. He spares the thief, and allows the best doctors to treat his ill sister. As long as he works directly for him in the castle until his debt is repaid. 

It is tradition for the royal family to keep their children within the gates of the castle and away from the public eye until they are grown enough to handle it. The Princess was introduced to society at the age of 13, but every year the reveal of their younger and troubled son (Lucien) his delayed for various vague reasons. Everyone is both eager and suspicious, which doesn’t help matters. This is when the royal parents essentially give up when the boy turns 21, allowing him out with no announcement to the public. While practically frolicking through the flowery fields, enjoying the feeling of the grass and the new sights, he has a love-at-first-sight moment with another boy (your character). This is just an ordinary boy from a hard working family, and since the Prince was never revealed, he has no idea the boy he’s immediately smitten with is the Prince everyone is eagerly awaiting to meet. That is until he finds out, obviously.

(Movie theme) The Hunger Games, two people from opposite teams. Queer themes; gay men, trans person called upon as their assigned gender at birth. Exploring the earlier hunger games (11-50th), escaping and/or faking deaths, etc.

(Movie theme) Ego: Character A gets hurt and temporarily loses their vision. While their wealthy parents look for a medical solution, they have them live in the guest house and hire a caregiver, character B, to stop by everyday and take care of them. Naturally, character a and the caregiver get close, but there’s a big problem: character A is a superficial, seemingly shallow and straight. As a result, character B feels pressured to lie about their identity and what they look like when character A tries to guess what they are like. 

Advanced AI recently developed, now available to the public for purchase in the last 5 years. Man born into generational wealth has no interest in marriage anytime soon despite being good looking, smart and successful. Despite being happy with this life, his house is beyond messy with books haphazardly stacked everywhere and take out containers everywhere. Somebody in his life decides to take it upon themselves to purchase him an android, to which the first time in his life he starts growing feelings for somebody.. something? As if it wasn't confusing enough, did the android have feelings for him as well? (Inspired by Detroit: Become Human)

Stalker falls in love with someone, all falls apart when things go too well and their obsession crosses paths with them and they eventually go out, but break up. stalker is determined to watch over their lover while also keeping others away from them until they “come to their senses” on their own time.

Custom outlawed species character called a bloodluster (similar to vampires), after his biological father got captured/taken away his mother fled to another state where she met his 'adoptive' father and shortly after found out she had been pregnant when she left. Not long after he was born, his mother died and a good portion of his life was spent raised being experimented on in a lab. Until one day he found an opening, and ate his mad scientist of an adoptive father. Now he's off in the world, trying to get by as a normal person despite his "condition" without killing anybody.

Message to the wider Riordanverse fandom:

Please correctly tag your fanfics with the correct fandom tags.

I am getting tired of seeing non-Apollo fics cluttering up the Trials of Apollo tag (such as Percy/Annabeth. like. what. they're barely in ToA. why are they there.). If your fanfic does not deal with Apollo, Meg McCaffrey, or the story of ToA or the consequences of it, please do not tag it as such.

I have seen fics tagged as ToA and not even have the MC, Apollo, tagged as part of the cast. So please. I am begging you. Please stop. You have the Percy Jackson & the Olympians - All Media Types, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, AND The Heroes of Olympus tags.

Solangelo writers, you now have the Sun and the Star tag, as well as the All Media Types one. Unless it happens during or alongside something to do with Apollo & his story, please refrain from tagging it as ToA.

And no. I do not think just being Solangelo should qualify all Solangelo fics to be tagged as ToA. If anything, they should be The Sun and The Star tag or even The Heroes of Olympus tag because that's when it all began! However, if, say, it's during The Hidden Oracle or takes place in the ToA timeframe then sure! ToA tag it!

But if it's just like an AU or something that only focuses on Solangelo? Then please don't. It's not ToA then.

And look at the gap between the number of fics Apollo's in compared to Percy! A 354 gap! And there's 1,616 gap between Apollo and Nico! And I can say with certainty that not all of those fics Percy - and even Nico and Will - are in are related to ToA.

Meg McCaffrey, the second MC of the series, is not even on the board. And she's a very close second MC.

And trust me. I know a bunch of these fics have nothing to do with ToA. I have scoured the tag many times and have figured that out.

So please, please, please leave The Trials of Apollo tag be unless you are writing for The Trials of Apollo. We are our own fandom and frankly, it's getting annoying having to shuffle through a bunch of fics that have nothing to do with ToA just to find ones we want to read.

Fic authors, it would be such a big help if you could remove the ToA tag from your fic if it doesn't have anything to do with ToA. I know you want your fic to be seen, and use a bunch of tags to do so, but this really inconveniences the ToA fans who just want to read about our favorite loser god and his gremlin adopted sister. ☹️

Leo stood in front of his burnt house in despair. He spent months building it and now it's in complete ashes. There was nothing left - he checked - because of the stupid Chimera attack. He could try to rebuild it but that would take more time, more energy on a house he's wanted since forever. Another few years collecting the money for the same materials as before to rebuild it. Another few years... Hasn't he waited enough? Hasn't he worked hard enough?

Isn't it obvious? Haven't you learned by now? You'll never be enough. Everything and everyone you love will always leave. He sobbed, not bothering to stop himself. It felt pointless to try again. He worked so hard for nothing. Everything he does always amounts to nothing if he's not sacrificing himself. It only works if it's for someone else.

He fell to his knees crying into his hands. He thought of telling someone but remembered he had no one. He ran away after everything. Calypso broke up with him, Jason was dead, everyone else ignored him completely or didn't know how to handle him. He wanted to start a new life. He knew he was better off alone, that Nemesis was right. He was alone and he always will be. No matter how much he missed Piper. And Hazel. And Frank and Nico and Annabeth and Percy and Reyna and Jo and Emmi... But reminded himself of what Nemesis said every time he feels that way.

When he stopped crying the moon was out and, remembering his bed was gone, just fell asleep right there.

"CPS says the same thing. 'We wanna help' and they never do." He said. He took a breath. "You shouldn't be worried. I'm fine. I'm an adult, I can take care of myself."

HOW RICK PORTRAYS ARTEMIS

Now, before I start on the nasty pile of shit that is Rick Riordan written PJO Artemis (NOT the real one, NEVER the real one) let me give you some links to posts talking about her portrayal in PJO which you should most certainly read.

You should most certainly read these posts-they talk about the subject of this post magnificently. Especially the first one.

THE HUNT OF ARTEMIS IS TERRIBLE AROACE REP

Rick makes her and her hunt aroace and depicts them as radical feminist misandrists.

This is misogynistic and aphobic, as it makes the narrative and by extension the readers think that hey, aroace women actually hate all men, which is not the case for every one of them!

Also, Rick writes Artemis as usually liking to appear as a young girl and never assumes a form older than twenty. And she always appears as a child in PJO. Never any other age. Also, the Hunters are apparently literal CHILDREN who are called immature and misandrist while also being aroace.......hmmmmmm.........aphobic much?

Yeah, do you see how aphobic this is?

People usually view aroace people as childlike and immature due to the fact that they don't want to have sex or romance when they can be just as mature or even more mature than non aroace people.

Also, the two hunters who've left the hunt, Emmie and Jo, are 'growing out of it'. Also, they fall in love and aren't as 'childish' anymore. This implies that aroace people are just 'late bloomers' and 'oh, you'll grow out of it!'

Which is not the case. It's never the case. They never 'grow out of it' because they don't feel attracted to it, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Romance and sex do not determine an adult's maturity. And they sure as hell don't determine Artemis' sexuality.

Also, Artemis kicks wlw hunters out-lesbians being kicked out of a safe space for women just for romantically liking women, does anybody hear this?-and calls romance a plague.

What the hell? Aroace people don't always think like this. And sex and romance are to different things. It's possible to be an asexual lesbian too.

This is lesbophobia, which is awful, because men are often violent towards queer women, so this could have been a good form of rep for queer women-queer female solidarity.

Now, I'm aware that Rick is allowed to portray Artemis as aroace. I'm simply pointing out the aphobic and misogynistic tropes that he fell into.

This isn't the only virgin goddess that Rick has turned into a child. Rick also turned Hestia, a former Olympian in PJO, into a child for no reason, most likely because she is also a willing virgin goddess. This is also extremely aphobic and unnecessary.

Artemis usually appears as a young woman in her statues and paintings. If Rick really wanted to make her young, he could've had her be in her late teens or early twenties. There was no reason to make her look like a child.

Also, the major huntresses of Artemis that we know of-Thalia, Bianca and Zoe-joined because they were traumatised from their past.

Thalia because Luke 'betrayed' her, Bianca because she thought she had to take care of Nico, and Zoe because Hercules also betrayed her. They're all traumatised and are frozen to become eternal children. And Reyna is also heavily traumatised.

Do you see this shit, my liege? This implies that all the aroace people are traumatised and that's why they suddenly become aroace and join the Hunt. Absolute nonsense.

Also, not all Hunters of Artemis are aroace. Taking a vow of virginity is not equal to aroace. I get that you want to have your representation, which is fair, but you need to know this.

PJO ARTEMIS IS CREEPY AND PREDATORY

So, we know from the Titan's Curse that Rick Riordan written PJO Artemis recruits girls between 10 and 14 into her hunt.

She says that girls that are older than 14 usually 'go astray' and 'leave their senses, running after boys all day'.

She makes her huntresses take oaths of virginity and celibacy. Why would anyone make a child take a virginity and celibacy oath?

She recruits girls who are too young to know if they want to date or have sex or grow up and pursue something else instead of just hunting all day.

She calls romance a plague and kicks out all lovers from her Hunt, be it mlm or wlw, which is terrible, because she was a sapphic icon back in the day.

And she promises young girls nice things and twists her word, not actually telling them about the bad things of the Hunt until they're actually in and can't get out again.

Do you know how terrible this is? And how terrible it is for the real Artemis and her worshippers?

This is very predatory-and extremely OOC for Real Artemis. She's the protector of girls-she doesn't take them on monster hunts.

REAL Artemis is the protector of children, especially young girls-she would not freeze them biologically forever and pull them out of their lives and take them on monster hunts, thus harming them and endangering them. She would take young girls into hunt, but she would educate them and train them to defend themselves and only take them on monsters hunts when they were fully mature, consenting adults.

Let me fill you in on info about the REAL Artemis' hunt-

If Real Artemis accepted girls into the hunt, they would age normally, and they weren't immortal. And she wouldn't make them hunt monsters. They'd hang around at camp, dance, sing, pick flowers and worship Artemis, like the original nymphs in the myths, who, by the way, were adults.

Also, Real Artemis' huntresses didn't always stay with her. And I get that it was a fun concept for Rick to make Artemis' hunt an immortal sisterhood band-and I'm not saying that it's a bad concept.

I'm just saying that the concept was horribly executed. It's absolutely horrible that the girls are frozen forever in time and never get to grow up and be more mature and educated. It would also help their muscle mass and strength, effectively making them better hunters. I've made another post about this.

And Rick also makes Artemis not interact with men because.......her first few interactions with men failed?

This is hilariously terrible. Oh no, Artemis doesn't like men because apparently a few of them failed her and her interactions with them went terribly wrong, so no men now!

And also, she kicks lesbians out of her hunt.

This is terrible, because Real Artemis was heavily associated with lesbianism back in Ancient Greece or before that. Also, Rick's hunt was supposed to be a safe space for girls. So many little lesbians thought that they'd been seen-only to have Rick throw this back into their face. And you know what's even more horrible? He could've made the hunters ace lesbians, because yeah, you can romantically love women and not want to have sex, it's entirely possible.

PJO Artemis is ultimately 'redeemed' by helping Percy and his friends and voting against his death, but her portrayal in such a popular books series will be an eternal tragedy.

And I've heard some people say that he turned Artemis into a radical feminist because it was popular at the time, and let me tell you-

You don't get to do that. You don't get to use a culturally, religiously and ethically sacred goddess as your experimenting ground for humour and modernity mixed with magic.

You don't just get to ignore all the myths and then reduce a sacred belief and way of life to something so horrible as what Artemis' hunt was in PJO-predatory, creepy, cult-like and abusive.

It isolated girls from the outside world and fed them one source of information.

It tricked them into joining by lying to them, promising them happiness, not telling them about the bad things, and then it did not let them leave when they wanted to, making them regret it eternally.

So many people actually worship this goddess-imagine how horrible they feel about this portrayal.

Reyna is visiting the Waystation, and apart from some awkwardness between Leo and Calypso still, everything is going well. They all feel like a strange second family to her, in a different way than the Legion had.

So that's why it bugs her when after dinner she notices Leo flinch out of the corner of her eye as Jo pats him on the shoulder - congratulating him on some invention or another. Jo didn't seem to notice, no one did. But, Reyna saw it.

Cornering him later, Reyna asks him point blank if Jo had hurt him at all. As out of character as it seemed, Reyna knew better than most how people could change, or only show a different side to themselves in private. But Leo looks shocked, shaking and crossing his arms in front of himself in a big X shape.

No, no, no, he insists. Jo would never. It wasn't her, it was just a reflex, Leo explains.

Reflexes come from repetition, Reyna counters, and Leo deflates slightly. His face does this half smiling thing, like his mask is melting off slowly. Before he'd died, Jason had told her that Leo wasn't exactly what people thought - or what Leo wanted them to think. They might not have liked the comparison, but he reminded her of Nico in that way.

I had a foster mother who... Leo trails off, but he makes a half hearted fist and swinging motion with a skinny arm. It said enough, he didn't have to explain more.

Reyna tells him she'll talk to Jo and Emmie about it, but that makes him blanch harder. He doesn't want them to act weird around him, doesn't want to be pitied or judged.

They're your moms, Reyna says. They're not going to pity you, they love you.

It seems to give Leo pause, a great feat for him.

You should talk to them, Reyna says again, quieter, less of her Praetor voice sneaking in. Leo agrees, and gives her a short hug before darting off somewhere.
