"no one has shoes in the deep rukon" is bullshit, actually. a) of all, it's a retcon: Matsumoto is very clearly wearing sandals in the snowy flashback where Gin tells her he's going to become a shinigami and 2) most forms of traditional Japanese footwear have a very simple construction. The waraji that shinigami wear are a traditional peasant craft that many people would have made themselves. Don't tell me that dying makes you forget how to make shoes.
