HEEEY MACARENA (ALRIGHT!)
Here's some long overdue BP and HH asks :) I tend to combine the two since there's not as many as the RADs, so this starts with BP and then moves into HH/Gen qs.
BP
MUAH ~ (I actually doodled this some time last year for fun and whimsy, based on those long mouth kiss meme pics XD)
A very quick overview of these types!
Vescordem: Maneaters/cannibals, excessively tall and strong.
Aleores: Minor dealmakers (goods and services). Jaw can unhinge and has venomous bite.
Sollicio: Major dealmakers - soul stealing ability. Often very good looking, has ichor powers.
Voxter: Ability to project 'thoughts' into someone else's mind - you ever have an intrusive thought? Same concept. All have a unique mark across the top part of their face.
Caumacies: Maneaters/cannibals, very strong. Has a third eye which sees only in heat vision - rarely opened simultaneously with normal eyes.
Hmm M or MA15 i think đ¤
You know, i actually have an idea for a game that has nothing to do with anything I'm currently doing XD One day i'll actually have time to make it, maybe. But anyway currently my actual project is i'm planning on making a comic \o/
I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE that i have thumbnailed like 70 pages of this bloody thing and i'm still only in the first quarter of the planned chapters lol OTL Once i finish thumbing the chapter I'm on I plan to go back and render the pages properly before starting to post them :D
...which should hopefully give me a buffer as i repeat the process for the next chapters |D
You know, the concept of my characs being comfort characs for someone will never get old for me. It just tickles me pink á( á )á This answer will have two levels to it.
It's fine to RP or ask blog with Rire - he's one of my more "known" characs thanks to BTD so as long as credit is given (and it's made clear I'm not running the blog so it's not canon) then it's cool.
I'd prefer if no ask/RP blogs are created for any of my other BP or HH characs, as they are not as known yet. This may be revisited once i actually get the BP comic out but for now it's a no, sorry! (Though, if you are RPing in like...a private Discord with other friends who know who the characs are then I'm a bit more lenient with that.)
The reason for the BP/HH level is that ages ago when I had started establishing my own characs more, I randomly happened to find a forum where someone was RPing as Izm and .D but no one else knew who the characs were and so they clearly thought the RPer was the original artist and creator. Said RPer was not dissuading anyone of that notion. That has stuck with me for forever because at the time i never anticipated that someone would...actually try and do that with an OC. Like, bro srsly?!
One pet peeve for everyone:
.D: Willfully stupid people
Izm: .D smoking. He could care less if anyone else smokes but .D is not allowed on his watch
Marcus: Having decisions made for him without his input
Zeke: "How's the weather up there?"
Wei Ren: When people think he can't understand English cos he has an accent and so they deliberately speak slower and louder
Geez Caleb why are you damn RUDE
Here's one i prepared earlier! đ
I'm not sure why you included Marcus as a demon, he's a human lol.
HH/More Gen
There are clubs which are created by students but need approval from the adults to exist.
HH is one of the better boarding schools which generally turn out successful alumni. The "obvious problems" we see are not actually obvious lol.
He doesn't need such manipulations.
Thanks! I hope you are inspired to go forth and create stuff! :D
One of the only perks of being a prefect at HH, really :d
Absolutely not lol
â
4. These types of qs are always amusing to me only because you guys expect me to know but i absolutely do not XDD. Do normal people actually have a fave animal?? I dont even have a fave animal!! Anyway offshoot aside sorry that i can't even randomly assign anything, but if you are interested here is what they might be AS animals lol.
They actually don't have names because they were randomly designed NPCs i drew as like, placeholders |D;
Not including Rire or Nurse Isla:
.D is asexual, Izm is bisexual, and everyone else is straight probably. Caleb and Desmond are violently straight (as in Des is like very 90s stoner bro adamantly vocal about being straight and Caleb will actually try and break your neck for insinuating anything).
I have some female characs but I dont draw them that often as they are more side characs in BP and HH. The ones ive's drawn at least once are Isla (who looks like this, also doodled above), Tish (Des's sister) and Kenzie and Kelly (Zeke's sisters).
Every once in a blue moon i get an ask saying this but whenever i go to check nothing is wrong, so...nothing is wrong they do work |D; As the age old tech saying goes have you tried turning it off and on again? :d
Aren't those kind of things supposed to be...based on yourself??

Sherlock & Co - Mailbag Episode 4 Transcript
00:00-00:29 *Intro Music*
00:28 John: Hello there, Mister Flatmate.
00:31 Sherlock (Resigned): What is it and why have you got your laptop?
00:34 John: Itâs that time! My fine fellow-
00:34 Sherlock: For goodness sake. *sounds of him moving on furniture*
00:36 John: Oi, where you going?
00:38 Sherlock: Iâm getting my cushion.
00:39 John: Your cushion?
00:40 Sherlock: Yes. Here. This one.
00:42 John: That- thatâs Marianaâs.
00:45 Sherlock: Ah, itâs mine.
00:46 John: I know itâs herâs. I bought it for her for Christmas.
00:50 Sherlock: Are you sure?
00:51 John: Yes, because you donât support Real Sociedad and she does.
00:56 Sherlock: *pause* I could.
00:57 John: Yeah, you could, but you donât. Ok- *gibbers* It doesnât matter. Just sit on the bloody cushion. Fine. Qs! And indeed As! Here we go. Uh, ahem, mm, just a disclaimer here, to the patrons. Um. Iâm old. Uh, Iâm thirty-four. If-if I see a question in the Discord, I-I just ask it. Uh, if itâs in the wrong order or i-if Iâve missed some out. Itâs-itâs probably just me not seeing it. So, yâknow. Right-o! Uh-Ooo! Off to a flyer here! Milque asks, âFavorite tube line?â
01:29 Sherlock: Victoria.
01:30 Yeah, Victoria. Yeah, yeah. Generally, most Londoners will give that answer. Umm, yâknow clean trains, not too many stops, and some big stations on there. Yâknow Kingâs Cross, Euston, Oxford Circus, um Victoria, obviously. Um, some other lines worth mention: Bakerloo brings a certain vibe. B-bit of a sort of kooky, deranged, but pleasant elderly uncle that doesnât wash kind of vibe. Uh, central line is possibly the most hated, ah, especially during the summer. Um, Piccadilly gets a lot of people headed to Heathrow, so it comes with a lot of baggage. Hah! Literally clambering over suitcases on that one. The Elizabeth line is amazing, but seems to be closed or delayed most of the time. Um, so thanks for listening to TubeCast!
02:20 John: Heh, right. Next question! SaraHawke722 asks, âHow do you both know Stamford?â Stamo! The Stamster! I think therefore I Stam. Heh, uh, I-I added those bits. They didnât say that. Uh, right. Sherlock you go first.
02:36 Sherlock: I met him at St. Bartâs.
02:39 John: Thatâs uh Saint Bartholemewâs Hospital in London
02:42 Sherlock: I know.
02:43 John: Yes, I know, Iâm just telling the listener.
02:45 Sherlock: *pause* Right⌠I met him at St. Bartâs. There was a study on skin grafting that he was undertaking. I initially made a number of enquiries about the study, he then hired me to work with him on it. Then after that he wanted me on other projects that I didnât find that interesting, but *with emphasis* he did let me use the lab.
03:03 John: Great, uh ok, um, I met Stamo in Freshes week at University. Um, the University of London. W-which is kind of affiliated with UCL and Kingâs College London.
03:15 Sherlock: By kind of affiliated, you mean itâs for their underachieving undergrads.
03:19 John: Uh, sorry mate, what University did you go to, exactly? *silence* Yeah, right, thought so. Uh, by the way, um, few of our American listeners have mentioned that you and Victor went to college together. College in the UK is sixteen to eighteen, generally speaking. Um, but, sorry Sherlock, posh lads will sometimes call boarding school a âcollegeâ. Uhh, I d-I donât know why. They also call their private boarding schools âpublic schoolsâ. So, yeah, I know. Weird lot. Uh, anyway, yeah, met Stamo at University of London in Freshes week, we both liked football. Heâs a Villa fan, Aston Villa that is. We, we kinda were, uh, both out of our depth a little bit with medical degree life, so yâknow maybe stuck together. Which. Which was stupid really as you should probably attach yourself to some smartarse, but hey! Yâknow! Live and learn! Uh, he started to do well at Uni. Um, he went on to yâknow big-big private practice and cosmetic surgery for the most part. And I got shot at for a living, so. Yeah. Listen in school, kids. Listen in school. Uh, WeirdScience asks âDo you believe in ghosts?â
04:32 Sherlock: No. Do you?
04:33 John: Uh, no. No, no. Joff asks âSorry to be intrusive doctor, but did you suffer any hearing loss during your army days?â Pardon? *wheezing laugh* Ha, uhh no. No, seriously, I did. Um, I burst an ear drum, twice, um, actually, in Afghanistan. I-in my right ear. Uh, thought it was fine, but then after Ukraine when I was getting a full body M.O.T. as it were, there were signs of hearing loss. Um, yeah, but Iâve been lucky I think. I hope it doesnât get worse as Iâve built my career in audio now. So. Yeah-yeah, but uh a little. A little bit. Um, JellyBaby says, âDogs or Cats, podboys?â
05:18 Sherlock: I prefer vermin.
05:19 John: Hm. I uh prefer dogs, through and through. Yeah. Um, yâknow I like a cat, but they donât get me. Dogs get me. Ainât that right, Arch? Heh. Uh, donât know where he is actually. Heâs probably downstairs with Mariana. Catonk asks, âWhatâs your favorite musical?â We-well it wonât be âCatsâ! Hahaha! Ahh, Sherlock, your favorite musical?
05:43 Sherlock: Whatâs the one with the man?
05:46 John: The. The one with the man. Um. Right. Youâve just described the entirety of art and media there.
05:54 Sherlock: He has a piano and he lives in a cave.
05:57 John: Piano in a cave?
05:59 Sherlock: Thereâs a girl he loves. He-he-heâs got half a face.
06:01 John: Ohh! Phantom of the Opera.
06:04 Sherlock: Yes! I thought that one was okay.
06:07: Great. Yeah, no, itâs a goodâun, itâs a goodâun. Good answer, I like Phantom. I like Les Mis. I know thatâs a boring answer, but some incredible songs in that. Uhhh, yeah. Question via email here from Sartori, âDid you feel bad for Violet Caruthers, because I did.â Um, well yeah, I did. Um. She, uh- I-I-I donât know how to put it, really-
06:34 Sherlock (interjecting): Had given up control of her life.
06:36 John: Yeah, it was- I donât know- confidence shot to shit? Th-th-the truest sort of victim I think Iâve ever seen, really. She just, uh, she couldnât grasp the wheel on her own life. Like Sherlock says. Was that why you were reluctant on that case, Sherlock?
06:55 Sherlock: Very much so. Men had muscled in and filled the gaps she had created from her own insecurity. I didnât wish to be yet another imposing presence.
07:05 John: But we were.
07:07 Sherlock: We were. And what good did it do?
07:10 John: Saved a blokeâs life?
07:11 Sherlock: Mm, we didnât pull the trigger but we may as well have. And we set the process in motion.
07:18 John: Welllll⌠right. Yeah. Okay, didnât think this q and a session would get so deep. Um. But, yeah, t-that, uh⌠Welcome to True Crime! *awkward huff laugh* Yeah, we donât always run off or cycle off into the sunset. Um. Yeah. Uh, okay. Mush-Pit asks, âHow many languages do you know?â
07:47 Sherlock: Many.
07:48 John: Great.Uh, why?
07:50 Sherlock: When I was young, I often fooled myself into thinking perhaps it was my grasp of language that was the reason that I didnât quite fit in. So, I decided to try a number of other languages to see if they worked as a better and more effective means of communication. I wondered whether the nuance and subtle signals of the English language were what was holding me back from social environments. So, I attempted other languages.
08:14 John: Right, and how did that go?
08:15 Sherlock: Itâs the same. It would appear itâs nothing to do with language.
08:20 John: Yeah, Iâm inclined to agree with you there. Iâm rubbish with languages. Ha, it never sticks for some reason. Um, hole in my brain I think. Mariana is also a dab hand at the old languages. She cracked open a bit of Russian the other day. I nearly ducked for cover! * laughs at his own joke* Uh, *clears through* RangerPip asks, âHave you seen any of the fan content Sherlock?â
08:42 Sherlock: Yes, because you keep showing me. And sticking things on the fridge.
08:46 John: Uh, yeah because theyâre cool. Theyâre really good mate! Just-just you wait until I show you the presentation.
08:52 Sherlock: The what?
08:53 John: Nothing. Right question via email from Unbelted, âDoes the fingerprint in your logo make an âSâ and is that deliberate?â Yes, um is the answer to that. My idea, thanks. Uh, Jones asks, âWhatâs our spice tolerance?â So, um, right. Okay, yeah. I can go really spicy for Indian. Uh, I can hit the searing temperatures of the Madras and the Vindaloo no problem. Lot of Brits can actually. But I tell you what, Indonesian and Thai spicing I feel. Geez, whew, that is-is a whole different realm of spice. UmâŚphew. S-sherlock?
09:32 Sherlock: I like the sensation.
09:35 John. Yep, uh. Anything else to add?
09:39 Sherlock: It depends on my emotional connection to the food.
09:42 John: Of course, of course. Well, a-a-as mentioned in Gloria Scott, Sherlock will only eat certain foods if heâs in the right mood. The mood for food, heh. Uh, right-o. Few general questions asking how pancake day went. Uh, yep. No dramas. Went well. Went âflippingâ great. Eh? Hehe. Uh, yeah, uh oo! Questions and comments. A lot from North American Podpals, uh, about me describing a woman as âtastyâ. Um. So, âtastyâ is a Carol Watson word. Uh. T-t-the sort she would use for young, handsome men that she flirts with when she can. Um, donât know what the American equivalent would be? Um? Yeah, you know, whatâs a lame word used to describe someone as good looking? Yâknow what would an elderly woman use basicallyâŚget in touch! Right, another question here. Uh, by the way, when I started this whole question and answer thing, Goalhanger and I thought this would be a great way to field questions about cases. Um. Yâknow about the people we meet, about the nature of the crimes weâve dealt with, uh to fill in possible knowledge gaps, and impart little gems of information that expose the murky nature of crime. Um. Which takes us to this question from Saphhster, âJohn, what are your thoughts on ranch dressing?â *long pause* I mean, yeah. I like it. I like it, itâs good stuff. Um, Sherlock is nodding. Uh, itâs audio mate. Great. Thanks for your contribution. Uh, Tonky asks, âDoes Sherlock have any tattoos?â Apart from my face on his bum. Heh, thatâs a joke. Thatâs a joke, donât write in. Sherlock, tattoos?
11:26 Sherlock: A spiral on my hip.
11:28 John: What?! Alright, well letâs see! Get it out. *sound of clothes being moved/removed* Oh, well thatâs rubbish.
11:34 Sherlock: I know.
11:35 John: Whyâd you get that done?
11:36 Sherlock: I-itâs scarring from falling out of bed. I had it filled in because it looked like a spiral.
11:42 John: Okay. Sarah Hawke again with a question, âWhat is your advice about dealing with a noisy flatmate? Would love both your takes on this lol. Iâm at Uni and have a noisy and slightly annoying flatmate. Somehow Iâve agreed to live with them next year as well.â Um, okay Sara Hawke, w-
12:03 Sherlock (cutting John off): Try to tune them out as best you can. Bring in other elements to distract you from their noisiness.
12:09 John (cutting Sherlock off): Sorry, what are you doing?
12:10 Sherlock: Answering wonky-blonkâs question.
12:12 John: Itâs not âWonky-Blonkâ, itâs Sarah Hawke. Whoâs Wonky-Blonk?
12:15 Sherlock: Theyâre all called that.
12:17 John: Look, I live with a noisy flatmate, alright, itâs clearly directed at me.
12:20 Sherlock: They said both of us.
12:21 John: Yeah, but they added a âlolâ, okay. That means they recognize the irony of you being asked.
12:26 Sherlock: Why?
12:27 John: Because you initiate a fucking marching band at three am every night. Â Ssssake. Uh, yeah, Sarah Hawke, I would say get some earbuds. Play music. Uh, white noise is good. Um, oh, I l-looked into this. You can get quite cool soundproofing panels on Amazon. Um, they donât look awful and they do kind of work. Sometimes. Uh, yeah, right, anyway. Thatâs it. Thanks for the âQsâ, hope you liked the âAsâ and we will see you soon. Heâs wav-Heâs waving. Itâs. Itâs audio m- For godâs sake-
13:00-13:30 *Outro Music Plays*

i know youre not a studyblr but as a senior can you please give any suggestions on managing 12th boards and competitive exams (im a jee aspirant but i still wanna know how you managed it all) hope its not a bother!
hiii sure!! feel free to reach out whenever, im happy to help <33
okay so. what i suggest you do (assuming you'll be starting 11th this year):
1. Enter 11th std. Don't get intimidated by others. Stay focused on understanding the concepts of all chapters, school exams toh derivations and formulas rattkar bhi ho jayenge. Clear concepts now rather than saving it for 'later'.
2. Practice all PYQs and whatever questions you get for maths. You can only do maths with practice Ă 100000. It's honestly quite tough, or it's too lengthy.
3. Fully strengthen the 'easier chapters' NOW. Own the knowledge like you made the concept.
4. Enter 12th. Let go of 11th from april-september and fully finish 12th std as soon as possible. Cover all concepts (I believe physics in 12th is relatively easier) and learn all formulas by your midterm exam time at school.
5. USE YOUR SUMMER VACATIONS WELL. COVER ALL BACKLOGS THEN AND THERE. (I regret procrastinating soo much đ)
6. Just revise 12th entirely and focus on PYQs during October.
7. Nov-Dec go through 11th std again thoroughly, don't take too much stress for preboard cause hopefully you've prepared for 12th strong enough already. Don't take preboard marks to heart!!
8. January, do only and only JEE PYQs and cover whatever backlogs you have. Physics formulas must be learn to the heart. Understand organic chemistry basics very very well, cause it will help predict complex product formations too even if you don't remember the actual reaction!! Maths again, only practice or God can save you đ (I'm sorry I'm really scared of maths so maybe this is a biased reply!)
9. Now you'll have board practicals likely in Jan end or Feb only, just make sure your file is complete and you know the basic procedure of experiments. Don't stress too much about viva, usually your own teachers will help you through it!! Focus on practicals as it helps with conceptual JEE Qs too!!
10. Now simply focus on learning derivations and long answer type questions for upcoming boards. You've done enough for JEE and it's time to strength subjective answers. Focus only on cbse board PYQs and again, don't stress too much. Be confident you've worked so hard!!
11. Now the April attempt. Again start focusing on 11th at least 2 weeks before your JEE date. Revise 11th very well.
12. Lastly, solve sample papers only. During the last 3 days I recommend not studying. Only sample papers. With full syllabus. No chapter-wise or topic-wise. But yes if you still don't have concepts cleared, definitely do that asap. Still try to be fully prepared 3 days before the actual exam!!
That's all <33 I made it as detailed as possible for anyone to refer to. Set a goal and follow through guys!! I know it's super hard and yeah 11th mein vo feeling nahi aati, but trust me, if you can push yourself hard in 11th, you won't have to worry too much for the April attempt for sureeee.
All the best <33
#note: this is coming from someone still waiting for april attempt#but yes since its just 3 weeks left ive started revising 11th#maths honestly i just try to strengthen the easy chapters#at least i wont lose marks here FOR SURE#i dont focus on tough maths chapters at all.#asks#dee#answers#desiblr#jee#cbse

A Comprehensive Guide to Arizona State University: Ranking, Acceptance Rate, Cost, and More
Arizona State University (ASU), located in Tempe, Arizona, is a prominent public research university renowned for its innovative programs and vibrant campus life. For prospective students considering Arizona State University, understanding the university's ranking, acceptance rate, and cost can be crucial in making an informed decision. In this guide, weâll delve into ASU's rankings, acceptance rate, cost of attendance, and briefly touch on the option of studying MBBS abroad.
Arizona State University Ranking
Arizona State University Ranking consistently ranks among the top public universities in the United States. As of the latest rankings, ASU is positioned in the top 100 of the U.S. News & World Report's National Universities list. It excels in various categories, including innovation, where it often claims a leading spot. ASUâs commitment to research and development contributes to its high standing, with strong programs in engineering, business, and sustainability.
Globally, ASUâs ranking reflects its growing international reputation. According to the QS World University Rankings, ASU is typically placed in the 200-300 range worldwide. Finding an affordable university in the USA as an international student
An A to Z guide to undergraduate studies in the USA.
Going to college is a crucial step in oneâs life. It is the stepping stone to kickstart your career. But if you are an international student that wants to study in the USA, you know the pain that tuition fees can represent.
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. Itâs all about the money in our world đ
The yearly cost in American Universities can be as high as 80 000$. You can still find some public schools like SUNY Stony Brook that only cost 35 000 $ (housing and all other fees included). But this is just unbearable for a middle family in a developing country.
Itâs no secret that the US is one of the most expensive nations in which to pursue higher education, but donât let that put you off, as there are hundreds of opportunities to gain funding for your studies here.
Iâm too applying to US schools this year, so I decided to write this story to share my research process and the results. As a prospective student or a parent, here are three steps you need to take to find an affordable college.
Stop searching by ranking, search by granted aid
My suggestions for you
Apply, and send the CSS profile
Stop searching by ranking, search by granted aid
The classical way of searching for a university is to browse the rankings and search for schools that offer studies in your area of interest. Often, you would go to US News or QS world ranking to find out about the best universities out there. But when you visit their website, they rarely offer financial aid for international students (apart of course from Ivy League schools like Harvard or Princeton)
Now that you know about the problem, here is my solution to it. Start by visiting the websites below and start creating a 30â40 schools list. All of which depends on your location preferences and other parameters.
Discover 2023âs Top Fully Funded Undergraduate Scholarships in the USA
Online Psychology Bachelorâs Degree in the USA: A Comprehensive Guide
Emory University Scholars Program for International Students 2022-2023
Monash University Scholarship 2023: Fully Funded Opportunities for International Students
Columbia University GSAPP Admission International Awards USA, 2022/2023
My suggestions for you
At this time, you are probably disappointed. Take Berea College, the school offers fully funded studies for all the international admitted students. But the problem is that Berea College isnât any good. The school is average, the campus is in bad shape, and current students are unhappy. So I wouldnât recommend you go there even if it costs 0$.
So to help you with your research, here is a list of colleges/universities to which Iâm applying (and others that I like):
MIT
Harvard
Yale
Duke
Cornell
Brown
TAMU
University of Texas
Stanford
Colby college
Williams college
University of Miami
SUNY Stony Brook
Haverford College
University of New York
University of Virginia
Amherst College
Caltech
Columbia University
Apply, and send the CSS profile
Once you have created your list, you should start the application process. Most schools accept the Common App, this will make your life easier, but a few schools like MIT require you to apply on their own portal.
Keep up the good work! Writing college essays and filling all the different forms is a very long process. So even if the deadline is in January, you must start at least two months prior.
I need to warn you about the CSS profile. While applying, you will be asked if you want to apply for aid, but answering yes isnât enough. You will need to fill the CSS profile on the College Board website. Once you submit it to your schools, there is one remaining step, sending your tax documents on the IDOC portal. The college board website will guide you through these remaining steps.
Final thoughts
Applying to college is a long and tedious process. Iâm experiencing it while working on the Texas application that closes on December the 1st.
If you have any questions or wanna talk about this whole process, leave me a private note. Thanks for staying until the end.
PS: This is my first article ever đ so please show some love

Any tips on living alone? I'm moving out and I am so nervous but I don't want to stress my parents out
uhmm honestly if you're worried about homesickness or feeling lonely I'm not really the person to ask. I'm an only child who was very much a boarding school kid for the majority of my primary and secondary schooling life, so I always had some intrinsic level of independence about coping with being away from home.
I can help you out if you have specific qs but generally speaking when you have your own space it's all about moderation. And I know it sounds so cliche and stupid but that's literally the biggest lesson I learned. It feels shitty if you go to uni/work and come back to a messy house, so try to stay on top of it so it doesn't pile up. But don't get so caught up in it that it becomes a stressful pursuit all the fucking time because sometimes you'll come home and you're #tired and the world was #unkind to you and you just need to take off your clothes on the floor and lay in bed for a couple of hours. Both those things are healthy. You owe both those things to yourself sometimes.

Whoâs your County Executive? and other steps to becoming a valuable pain in the ass
I fired off a tweet thread this morning, but I feel like a lot of folks here might benefit from this info, too. Which is: if you want anything to change, from police abolition to getting statues removed to passing local ordinances requiring masks to removing local legislation putting limits on abortion (just for some random examples), you need to get real familiar with your local reps. As in, you need to know who they are, what they do, how theyâre elected/appointed, how long theyâve been doing that job, what their history is and how you can pressure them into doing what you want. Using hashtags and sharing links and signal boosting can only do so much. Talking to the people who are actually able to implement the change you want is a huge part that I donât think gets discussed enough;Â and although it requires some preliminary work, once you get into the groove itâs surprisingly easy.
First, find out where you live! Which you may think is a stupid step, but âdo you live in a city? Are you sure? I live in a city, for example, but I actually live in a township/suburb of that city, not the city proper. (Fortunately due to what I suspect is some white flight-related weirdness, I can still hassle the city proper.) There are entire towns inside of some cities, like West Hollywood and Los Angeles. Double-check; you might be surprised.
Then, find out whoâs in charge of said place. There are quite a few people, actually. You probably have a mayor â but they might be called a supervisor. Or you may have a city manager, or executive, or clerk, or all three, or someone else entirely, whoâs actually doing the day-to-day running of the place â for instance, while Austin has a mayor, it also has a city manager, and the city manager does WAY more than the mayor does. You also have people at the county/parish level â a county executive is I think the most common term, although sometimes itâs the county clerk, who can have entirely different duties depending on the county. Whatever way it works where you live, find out. While youâre at it, find out whoâs in charge of your local elections. Sometimes thatâs the county clerk (actually I think itâs almost always the country clerk, but sometimes itâs the county auditor or something weird like that); sometimes theyâre elected and sometimes theyâre appointed. Find out. Get names, put their contact info in your phone. (More on that later.)
Then, find out who represents you on the city/town council and the county legislature, or whatever theyâre called where you are. Finding out what district youâre in can sometimes be hellaciously frustrating; when in doubt, an email to the county or city council can often get you an answer if you provide your address. Also bear in mind that different places have different ways of apportioning council members; sometimes theyâre all âat large,â sometimes theyâre elected according to districts, sometimes itâs a combination of both. Sometimes (not often I donât think) theyâre not elected at all but appointed by someone. Find out who! And donât leave out things like school boards and zoning boards and community college boards and anything else you happen upon that has a representative you didnât know existed. They exist, and I guarantee theyâve got power.
Note: find out who represents you state-wide, too. Often calling the governor isnât that effective (at least for me, calling Cuomo ainât gonna do much; if you live in Delaware or Montana or Iowa or somewhere relatively less populous, definitely get your governorâs information), but your state reps are usually pretty eager to talk to constituents, even â and this is really important these days â ones who arenât of the same party. Iâm represented by a GOP state senator, for example, but he ended up voting for this bill that just got signed into law. Most states are bicameral (except Nebraska, heyooo), so you likely have a state senator and a state rep/assemblyman/whatever. Make sure to get info for both. (Unless you live in Nebraska, in which case tell Ernie I said hi.)
Next, find out what the court system looks like where you are. Are your state/county/district/etc judges appointed? Elected? What are their terms? Whoâs your District Attorney? Whoâs in charge of your Public Defenderâs office? (I actually havenât bothered to look up that myself until today!) What courts handle which offenses in your area? Collect that information.
And what do you do with this info? You put it into your phone contacts, or whatever you use to keep your contacts organized, I dunno, maybe you still use your Wizard from 1992. No judgement. However you do it, put all of these contacts somewhere theyâre all together â for example, if you have a letter in your directory that isnât used much. I have a kind of weird method of organizing my contacts, which is that I put their first and last names (and their handles, if I know them online) in the Firstname field, then the Lastname field I use to say how I know them. So all of my New York-based friends are listed as âNYC, Holly Golightly/moonrivergoddessâ or whatever. So for me personally, I just put all my political contacts under âYâ as in âY do I have to keep pestering you to make you do the right thing.â So a county clerk would be listed like so:
Y, County Clerk Horace Vandergelder
In the âCompanyâ field, I usually put their party and when/if theyâre up for election next as well as term length, so Horace would be âDem, 2020/2024.âł And then I might add any links I thought were helpful as well as notes about, say, what staffer I mayâve talked to or if thereâs an important bill coming up etc.
And now youâve got that information, itâs time to fuckinâ use it. Was there a protest that happened in your area that ended in arrests or violence? Call your mayor, register your displeasure. Call your DA, ask if anyoneâs being charged. Call your city council member, ask them what legislation theyâd support to end police violence. What do you know that you want them to know? Alternatively, was there a protest in your area that was really great and positive? Call these people; ask if they attended. If they did, offer support for them and say that you want them to follow up with actionable steps. If they didnât, ask why. (BTW, itâs election season â look at the candidates, too! That state senator I mentioned earlier is retiring this year, and a pretty awesome Democrat is in a good position to get his seat; Iâve started volunteering for him in part because heâs got a history of agitating for police reform and has been regularly attending the protests here.) You can email, too; youâre welcome to c&p form emails, but once you have all these peopleâs contact info at your fingertips youâd be amazed how easy itâll be to write something from you, that will be far more effective.
Itâs also important to keep a record for yourself of who youâve talked to, when you talked to them, what they said, if you want to follow up etc. Iâve got a little section of my planner for this; it has dates, names, topics, the works. Itâs been really helpful to me over the past few weeks making sure Iâm exerting pressure to a variety of people in a variety of positions, not just repeatedly calling one office and leaving the same message over and over again.
But if you really want to, as I put it on twitter, tighten the sphincter of local government, nothing beats face-to-face (or, these days, facetime-to-facetime). And here youâve got a shitton of options. You can see if a particular politician/government office is taking virtual one-on-one meetings, where you can lobby either your politician or (more likely) one of their staffers to support legislation or policies or whatnot. This is, and I cannot stress it enough, HUGELY EFFECTIVE, especially if you are a demo they donât often see (aka if youâre not a white Boomer). Local politicians are both desperate for and terrified of an engaged constituency; they want you to care but theyâre very much aware that anyone showing up to an office (or a zoom meeting) could make their lives very, very difficult.
If one-on-one isnât your style, there are also committee meetings, which... holy shit, you would not believe the number of committees there are. Committees for art festivals, committees for transportation, committees for public safety, committees for pretty much everything you can think of and a few Iâll bet you canât. Noodle around on your councilsâ and countyâs websites, including their facebook page (nine times out of ten there will be more â and more up-to-date â info on the facebook page) to find out what committees meet when. And here is where your specific priorities will be important, because usually you can attend and in some cases even become part of these committees. Do you want to advocate for better public transportation? Find out when the transportation committee meets. Go to that meeting. If they have a Q&A, get some fuckinâ Qs ready and demand some fuckinâ As.
And then thereâs the big kahunas of council meetings and state legislature sessions. Most city/town councils have a segment of their weekly/monthly meetings to hear from the public (this is different from a public hearing, FYI, although they too are really important and you should find out if there are any going on where you live and when). Do you have something you want to get in front of the whole council? Get your ass on the list! In Austin I think you had to call or email the councilâs office by the day before; in my town you just roll up and get in line when it comes time. Then for state legislatures, often there will be specific bills on which they ask for âcitizen inputâ or however else they describe it. This is less practical because we donât all live in easy distance of our state capital, but if you do, consider getting involved there. (And right now with the pandemic, your state legislatures may have new rules about citizen participation that actually make it easier for you to get involved, for once.)
Mostly, though, this is about local involvement â find out whoâs in control of your city, your county, your precinct and district and all the other ways your home is demarcated. Talk to these people, even if it makes you nervous; their power to make effective change comes with their responsibility to listen, and your power to make them listen comes with your responsibility to speak.
#you want your city to follow in camden and minneapolis's footsteps?#then CALL THEM UP#protesting sometimes works#advocating sometimes works#if you are only doing one of them that's fine#but doing both is more effective#and if what you want is change then you will want to be at your most effective#ergo this post#politics!

itâs really been great crawling out of my hole to be an mcu stan for a bit but i think itâs time to go. they built up my hope and faith only to crush it, and for what? a boner joke? im going to go back to reading a select few comics and watching the xmen films. call me in june if and when lady loki makes an appearence bc at this point only my favorite himbos and my middle school crushes can pull my lesbian ass back to the mcuâs boot <3.
You know, I was so upset with what they did to Peter in Dark Phoenix it ruined all the hype I had for the X-Men. I basically abandoned this blog because I was so hurt that they threw away him, his character arc, dadneto and it was probably the last movie with that cast bc of the merger.
It was a fresh wound and it pained me to be here.
Fast forward to 2020 and this 'wound' started to heal. I think I finally made my peace with everything X-Men, QS and dadneto related.
Then in june 2020 news broke that Evan was cast in Wandavision and I immediately just knew he HAD to be Quicksilver because casting this particular actor in this particular show was just too much of a coincidence. So my hype went up!
And then further rumours and leaks just accelerated that hype.
Then we saw him show up as Pietro in episode 5 and I was fully back on board, hype all time high, I was so excited, happy, couldn't believe this was happening. Episode 6 was even better because it was my dream to see Maximoffs and Minimoffs interacting with each other and Uncle P was the best thing ever.
After that everything slowly went downhill but there were still signs that he's in fact Peter or at least a multiverse QS.
And then episode 9 happened and it was just crushing. I mean, there's still hope but still...
Quicksilver is my favorite character and to see Marvel dangle him in front of my eyes and they snatch him away in a "Ha! You thought!" Was just plain cruel.
It's like that old wound from 2019 that I thought had been healed by now, tore open again and someone poured salt in it. And it's bleeding and it hurts and I'll never forgive marvel for this if they truly don't have some bigger plans in mind for this character.
