This weekend I went to A NO MEN ALLOWED ,SAPPHIC SHIBARI performance.

Must have been 100 lesbians, NBs, heck maybe some cis straight women idk, packed like sardines. Trans women, muslims. Dancing, drinking, sitting in a corner. Highly illegal! Haram af. God save my dirty little soul.

I felt like an imposter but that lessened as the night went on. Looking back, I wonder if a few offhand comments I made could've been seen as aggressive (classic "oh no what if I'm a predatory trans woman" worry). But my friend's partner, who I'd never met before, said I have a very calm, grounding presence. So it must have been okay!!

People move aside from each other. It's safe if someone bumps into you. It's ok if your skirt rides up. Compliments flew left and right. My girlfriend won Best Dressed. They blasted Hot to Go and gave her a crown and sash. I kissed her in front of everybody.

The organizer said she wonders if she's doing enough. But that event felt revolutionary. I think it had the best vibes of any event I've been to. What a huge fucking win!

His expression clouds, the stress from that period of time, fretting for his sister's life, flooding back to him like a bad memory. "Not just Félix." He murmurs under his breath.

But Yvonne's view of the impossibility of outrunning their last name strikes a dissonant chord. Perhaps it's the timing, rather than the chord. He's harboured an idea as of late, a dream... Spending the weekend away from London, far from the media's magnifying lens, has only further cemented it in his mind. But he's too fearful to speak it aloud, too fearful even to give his hope wings.

... Almost as if in doing so, he might accidentally clip them from the get-go.

So instead, he offers an indulgent smile when she teases about his relationship with her husband. "Alright, alright, just don't let your ears get used to it." Gideon pulls the roasting stick back, satisfied with the colour of his marshmallow. Letting it cool, he glances at his sister. "He knows about Théodore, I assume?... Said much about it?"

There are likely a million handbooks on parenting, Gideon thinks to himself amusedly. He doubts a single one's covered what a man's meant to feel about an ex like that.

"I suppose I'm lucky that I don't remember much of Isabel's birth, then. I can't imagine what it was like for Félix." Not that the aftermath she did remember was a piece of cake. "I know we've both tried to distance ourselves from the family business, but I'm starting to think that it's impossible to actually achieve. We can't outrun our name."

"Do my ears deceive me? Did you just compliment my husband? Nature really has been good for you." Yvonne teased, but secretly she was relieved. Maybe familial peace was possible after all.

Yvonne shrugged as the fire cracked in front of them. "I think they're both things to worry about, honestly. " Even if Felix didn't see Katherine getting high in front of him, it wouldn't be too much longer until he started to hear the whispers. People didn't think twice about speaking freely in front of small children. Especially when they forgot the kids were there. "I wish parenting came with a handbook. It'd make things so much easier"
